Well, you've read the notes, the notes were itsy bitsy and teeny-weeny, and now it is time for you to post until the itsy bitsy cows come home - in G.

So, which DR drew the short straw and is going to pay to see “Valkyrie” and give us a review?

-
Well, having read the notes (Lord knows why)* and reading about:
...itsy bitsy teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini. Ah, they don’t write ‘em like THAT anymore, do they? Can you imagine that song coming out now? And being a hit? How about The Purple People Eater? THAT was a song, baby. I think that somehow the fun has gone out of the songwriting business. Oh, am I waxing nostalgic again?
I was all ready for the expected TOD - favorite Silly Songs:
So I guess
"Chickery chick, cha-la, cha-la
Check-a-la romey in a bananika
Bollika, wollika, can't you see
Chickery chick is me?"
Mares-eat oats and does eat oats,
And little lambs eat ivy,
A kid will eat ivy too,
Wouldn't you?
"Abba dabba dabba dabba dabba dabba dabba"
said the monkey to the chimp.
"Abba dabba dabba dabba dabba dabba dabba"
said the chimpee to the monk.
All night long they chattered away.
All day long they were happy and gay,
swinging and swaying in a honky, tonky way.
will have to wait for another day.

* A nasty job, but somebody's got to do it

The Moon's presence in Capricorn continues to activate your urge to reach the top of the totem pole and be a savvy entrepreneur. If you start experiencing a wave of emotional intensity this evening, it is most probably due to the approaching Mars-Pluto union in Capricorn that happens at Noon PST tomorrow. Mars and Pluto only merge their influences every 2+ years and that rendezvous is often filled with battle royals, a charged psychic atmosphere and a lot of simmering anger that will either be released or repressed. Stay on an even keel overnight.

The Amazing Race
Project Runway
Hmmmmmmmm......I liked Eli Stone and The Mentalist episodes too.
I can't think of anything that stood out as MUST SEE TV.
I did enjoy the 20/20 last week about making of a High School Musical.

Not until I have a spare bedroom. But she did ask for certain supplies when kitten season comes around.

The HGTV shows I watched at my sister's house.

Thank you, DR Vixmom for asking after me. I still have the what-ever-it-is stomach thing but not quite as bad. I lost breakfast yesterday but managed to keep dinner down. Pepto-Bismol is helping a lot.
After talking with Thelma, I found out it is something that is going around. And around. She told me that a friend of hers has had it for the past 3 weeks. Just when you think it's gone, it comes back. I hope it goes away and stays away from me!
I have a scheduled doctor appointment next week. If it is still with me then, I hope that he can give me something.
I'm just not sure if I should take Sheena to the dog park tomorrow or not. I know she wants to go but I still feel that is where I got this thing. I was fine until we went there and I got around those people who said they were feeling sick. It started that night (last Sunday).

A belated Merry UN-Birthday to DRsingdaw'sDH Jayson!
-
One of the best TV shows I have seen in the past year was an episode of "Psych" that aired last spring, AIR (that's "as I recall" in internet lingo).
Sean and Gus were investigating some mummified goings-on at a museum exhibit. After staking out the delivery docks, they spied someone illicitly moving stuff out of the museum. Gus was driving his car and had to turn around to follow the truck. His method of doing so -- and the number of times he did it -- led Sean to exclaim: "Really? An 11-point turn?"
That line MADE the show for me. I laughed and laughed.
-
DR TCB, I am so sorry to hear about your dear friend, Stan. It is so hard to stand by and watch someone you care about slip away. It is worse to not know what to hope for. You don't want them to go but you wonder if it is what needs to be.
Vibes of strength and comfort to you and all around DF Stan. Vibes of peace and no pain to DF Stan.

Hmmm favorite television viewing for 2008? Favorite specials, series, reality shows and single favorite episodes?
That is actually really hard.
My favorite reality show is THE AMAZING RACE. The finale was quite exhilarating. My runner-up reality shows are: SURVIVOR, TOP CHEF, PROJECT RUNWAY, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
My favorite new shows of the year: PRIVILEGED, THE MENTALIST.
I think one show that has surprised me immensely is GHOST WHISPERER. Some really emotional shows this year.
I love ELI STONE and am pretty sad it got cancelled.
I very much enjoyed DEXTER and am enjoying TRUE BLOOD.
I enjoy LIFE, UGLY BETTY, BROTHERS & SISTERS, GOSSIP GIRL, THE HILLS, PUSHING DAISIES, CHUCK, HEROES.
-
I finely managed to get my Apple address book up to speed. I had to figure out a round about way of doing it but it worked.
I noticed that it said it would sync with Yahoo. So I went to Yahoo and made an account. Then I found that Yahoo wouldn't upload my address book from Windows but it would import from AOL. Ok, so I went to my AOL account and was able to upload my Windows address book to it. The I went back to Yahoo and had it import my address book from AOL. Then I went to the settings of the Apple address book and set them to sync with the Yahoo account. Then I had it merge the double entries.
Like I said, it was a very round about way of doing it but it worked!!!! :)
-
RE: DR jose's comments about TRUE BLOOD the tv series.
I'm curious if anyone knows if the tv series and the books are very similar in plot. And also how far season 1 gets in terms of the books (there are 8 books so far).

re: the gun talk from last night.
I agree with those who cringe at the thought of a child getting a gun for Xmas. Although i guess it is very common in some areas.
But i do like the idea of a formal gun safety course. That sounds like a great idea.

Good morning, all! I am the first one up and about this morning, and I guess Jo got up for a bit, put the coffee on, and then went back to bed. While I was visiting the Freeman's, she and Randy were hanging out in some dive listening to the Macbeths' band perform. They invited me but I declined since I didn't want the Macbeths thinking I was making pacific overtures. I refuse to become my brother Tom's personal bowling pin to be knocked down whenever he decides it's time to launch an attack and later be forgiven for his terminal assholism.
Today, my cousin Sue and I will drive to Mason, OH, to see my Uncle Bob, my mother's youngest sibling. He's about 77 now, and each time I see him I fear it will be the last because his health is terrible. Sue tells me this will be his last holiday since his heart is giving out and his doctors have told him he's now dealing with a limited time span. Sue is the daughter of my mother's oldest sister, and she's been keeping an eye on him since her mother died about twelve years ago.
Tonight, I believe Randy, Jo, and I are going out to dinner, but I don't believe that's confirmed yet.
The visit's been nice and I've enjoyed the last two weeks a lot, but I think a week's more than enough time to see my friends and family in future visits.
Vibes to DRs Danise and TCB and all DRs in need today!

Yes TOP CHEF is on Bravo. But i don't think it was on this week (it wasn't on here). I think very occasionally NBC shows an episode or two.
Btw, without saying who won, can anyone tell me which season was TOP CHEF VEGAS? I've seen season 2, 3, and 4. But not 1. And the Food Network is showing TOP CHEF VEGAS.

OK, is anyone else having a problem with posting? Every time I hit "Post" I get a message that I have already posted and may have double clicked. I'm also having a problem with the reply button. It keeps going to the quick reply not the full reply box.

I don't think that kids should be given guns...even Red Ryder BB guns.
However, if there are guns in the house, I don't think that they should be kept a "mystery". Kids need to know what a gun can do; that it's not a toy.
My Dad had both a rifle and a handgun in our house. Every now and then, he'd take us out into the country and we'd have target practice, shooting empty bottles.
Doing something like that takes away the "curiosity factor".

Saturday morning greetings! DH Richard and I were out in the fog yesterday, too. We drove down to the Cincinnati 'burbs to see Australia (which is too long) and have dinner at Izzy's deli. By the time we were heading home about 8pm, the fog was gone.

Vibes of comfort to DR TCB, dear friend of Stan.
-
The only two reality shows I derived any pleasure from last season were PROJECT RUNWAY and MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST. I didn't miss an episode, but I still prefer my fictional comedies and dramas to any reality show.
As for AMERICAN IDOL, I established a viewing pattern last year that I will retain this year: never watching the shows live, skipping the audition rounds completely, joining the show only during the Hollywood rounds, and recording the competition shows and speeding through all of the stuff except the singing itself and occasional judges' comments.
-
As for the most memorable episode of the TV season, it would have to be "The Constant" on LOST, 44 minutes of mind-boggling time travel that ends with one of the tenderest, most romantic conclusions on episodic television.
-
Hello, everyone.
I haven't been able to keep up with all the posts, so let me just sum up here:

I wasn't planning to spend so much time packing, but it reached the point where I was having trouble sleeping--or even watching a DVD--because so many moving issues were on my mind. I bit the bullet and have made good progress. Today a representative from Moving Company #2 is coming by to give me an estimate. Matt may come by, too, to help with the packing. Until this is under control I will be rather single-minded.

Another highly enjoyable, memorable and extremely satisfying TV episode I saw was the "Survivor: Gambon" episode in which Sugar convinced Bob to give Randy his "fake-but-convincing" immunity idol -- this led to Randy being more obnoxious and assholic than usual -- and culminated in Randy presenting the idol at tribal council, knowing he'd gotten a lot of votes and expecting another person to go home. The look on his face when Jeff tossed it on the fire as a fake was PRICELESS...and his poor sportsmanship carried through to his exit interview and the final show, as well.
It was a WONderful TV moment.

Good morning! I'm up! I slept until almost nine am this morning, which NEVER happens. Of course, I was up down with Toby during that time, but I didn't really wake up enough to get out of bed until after 8:30. I guess the Christmas travel took a toll on me.
This evening we will be going down to have our Christmas celebration with DH Jed's father, which should be nice.
Any word from TCB yet? He's been on my mind all morning...

Still very cold in the home environment. I wonder how cold it is outside, although a gal just jogged by in a t-shirt.

I began watching Om Shanti Om in the bedroom environment last night - five minutes in, it froze, so it's back to amazon and they'll have to send a replacement.
-
I'm going to try to see BENJAMIN BUTTON again today. Hopefully, I can get in.
-
Just got off the phone with amazon - was speaking to India, which I HATE doing, but seemed appropriate for Om Shanti Om. They're sending me a new copy with one day shipping - unfortunately, they don't have it in stock and it's going to take two weeks to arrive with one day shipping. I ordered the first copy on the 24th and it was here yesterday, so why this magically now takes two weeks I have no idea. Very annoying.

Her good manners for a young rescue amaze me - she walks up to everyone she meets, but doesn't jump; in the Pet Store she explored every nook, cranny and shelf - but didn't take anything; she greets other dogs calmly and confidently. And she stayed quietly in the van. alone, while we did Wal-Mart.

[I don't even want to get started on that subject. It is so wrong on so many levels. We're not talking about a Red Rider B B gun with a compass on the stock and this thing that tells time that will shoot your eye out.
No we're talking about a "tool" tradtionally used by American males since the Pilgrims landed - those Thanksgiving Turkeys didn't just jump in the baking pan. Would you be happier if he was given a stun bolt to kill steers, or a good knife with which to slit pig throats? A BB gun is actually more dangerous becasue it's a toy with which to play; a shot gun is a dangerous weapon and gets the respect it's due.
der Brucer
-
Congratulations on new member Dixie, and to her very good manners!
-
I have never understood why BB guns were considered toys. I'm very against them.
-
DR Danise - With the way the board is now set up, if you use the "back" button to get back to a page, and then try to respond to another post on the same page, the board's software will assume that you are "accidentally" re-posting the same response. The quickest fix is just to click on another Page number, and then click on the Page number you were posting to originally.
As for your Quick Reply box, it sounds like you might have "collapsed" the Quick Reply box. Just click on "Quick Reply" (which is to the left of Reply Box) to open it back up.

DR vixmom - So... What totally indulgent treat are you going to eat today? ;)

I have never understood why BB guns were considered toys. I'm very against them.
So am I! Because they are considered non-lethal, they are not treated with respect and the kids fail to develope the good habits required to be around firearms.

And about 24 hours from now, my parents, my brother, Mike, and my nieces and nephew should be arriving in New York City!!!! YEAH!!!!!!
*Which is another reason I'm pretty sure I'm just staying in and taking it easy today. The list of things that John Michael, Alexandra and Alyssa want to do in the span of 36 hours is going to require a well-rested Uncle Jojo.

As for the Topic of the Day...
Best series:
"Mad Men"
"Brothers & Sisters"
"Lost"
"Eli Stone"
"Ugly Betty" - Although, I feel like the first half of the current season is lacking "something", but it is nice that the show is now filming in NYC.
"True Blood"
-
Topic of the Day - The Reality TV Version
"Top Chef"
"So You Think You Can Dance"
"Step It Up & Dance"
"American Idol"
"Project Runway"
And I wish that the most recent season of "Top Design" had been better.
And for true over-the-top schlockiness:
"The Search for the Next Pussy Cat Doll"
"The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency"
"America's Next Top Model" - The first episode of this past cycle had me laughing in horror. ;)
-
DR Jennifer - "Top Chef" has never been based in Las Vegas. They were based in San Francisco (Season 1) Los Angeles (2), Miami (3), Chicago (4) and now New York (5).
Now, the second season of "The Next Food Network Star" did finish in Las Vegas, and "Hell's Kitchen" has also had a Vegas tie-in.
-
The Topic of the Day - The "SNL" Moments
"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is a disease of the liver."
Justin Timberlake taking on Beyoncé's "Single Ladies Dance".
Tina Fey's return guest appearances as Sarah Palin, especially the Vice Presidential Debate opening sketch with Queen Latifa.
"I J*zzed in my pants" digital short/video.
Almost all of Paul Rudd's episode. The final "Proposition 8" sketch actually brought a tear to my eye.
Almost any of the skits with Kristen Wiig - especially the singing ones.
-

And back to Reality TV for another post...
I also liked "Flipping Out" on Bravo, and the reunion show of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" provided much more entertainment than I ever imagine. ;)

Back from the long jog - it's in the high 60s so it wasn't too nippy out.
And it's currently around 60 degrees in Richmond, VA, right now, and supposed to get into the mid-60s here in NYC tomorrow. -And in the low-70s tomorrow in Virginia.
-Wasn't it just Christmas? ;)

So glad spring is here at last!

I think for a number of reasons, MAD MEN was my favorite viewing last season.
I liked Project Runway, but MAD MEN has a well cast ensemble and some intriguing writing, besides being set in one of favorite time periods....the just barely remembered past of 1963.......
My favorite moment - one of many - was the episode when Don Draper bought a huge Cadillac.....yelled at his kids to keep the upholstery clean....took his wife to a big party where she had some drinks - and found out Don was having an affair with the wife of a Borscht Belt comic....
They argued on the way home....Don's deceit and life choices were finally too much for Betty - and she threw up....all over his new Cadillac.....

Maybe i'll see what their online guide says. Thanks.
Oh and how could i forget ANTM for reality shows. I really like that one a lot.
And in a few weeks PROJECT RUNWAY CANADA will be starting season 2 with Iman as host again. I wonder if you guys can watch it on youtube.

DR jose, i just matched the episode titles listed on foodtv.ca and it is season 1 they are showing in its entirety. Yeah! (that is the only season i have not seen).
It says the finale was in Vegas and for some reason that is what their program listings titled the show. Not sure if it's true or not.

I believe one of the more memorable moments in that episode was the picnic that Don, Betty, and their two kids had. It looked so peaceful and idyllic, and then it was time to leave. Don rounded up the kids while Betty folded up the blanket and left a HUMONGOUS pile of litter on these beautiful picnic lawns. Ah, yes, years before Lady Bird Johnson's "Keep America Clean" campaign, but this was the reason it was inevitably needed.

This web series just got a write-up in the New York Times...
Web Therapy (http://lstudio.lexus.com/)
It stars Lisa Kudrow as "professional" web therapist, Fiona Shaw. It's improvised for the most part, and very funny, albeit very dry humor.

Next, I watched the new Ccentennial Edition of FUNNY FACE. Gorgeous from start to finish, and though I haven't done an A/B comparison yet (I was eager to get to the bonus stuff), I will do it tonight, but I suspect it is the same encode. Not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere and just one instance where the encode had trouble with the image (some flickering bloom in the whites of Audrey's wedding dress during the last moments of "He Loves and She Loves.")
The segment in Flostre's sitting room when Fred and Kay break in on Audrey and Emile was so astonishingly rich and sharp that it absolutely looked high definition. This is one film that will look stunning if Paramount would release it on Blu-ray.
-
There are three new bonus features on the disc. The first is a half hour mini-bio of Kay Thompson, much needed since so many people don't know anything about her except she was in FUNNY FACE. Nice to see clips of some other film appearances she made. Ruta Lee, Mart Crowley, Liza, and others comment on her.
-
There is also some other interesting programming on http://Lstudio.Lexus.com/
-
Next was a half hour on VistaVision. Not much new info here that I didn't already know about it, but good to see some stunning clips from VV films, especially WAR & PEACE and TO CATCH A THIEF, both of which will make stunning high def releases some day.
And no, no Dr. Drew Casper nor DR Ron Pulliam's favorite Richard Barrios doing any commenting.
-
The third new bonus feature was the least interesting, a comparison with fashion model photography today as compared to the photography as shown in FUNNY FACE. It was a movie, for goodness sakes, not real-life, so of course the fashion photo shoots were composed for movies, not for a real-world situation. Argh!
-
The other featurettes were on the last FUNNY FACE DVD including the one I'll be rewatching next, a mini-history of the Hepburn-Givenchy partnership.
-
Tonight, I'll likely look at a VistaVision film. I'm thinking THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY. We'll see.
-
Not much going on with the internet, so I'll hop off-line and do a little more writing before I head back down to finish up with FUNNY FACE and then do some fun viewing.

BK, I hope you get your new OM SHANTI OM dvd soon...I am curious as to what you will think of it.
JRand, I think maybe the movie that I sent to you was KOYA KOYA CHAND...it was also about the film industry, but in the 1950s...while OM SHANTI OM takes place in the 1970s and then later on in the today.

I know exactly what you mean. I never knew this section of the country was as "hunting crazy" as it now is. I've known my cousin Debra and her immediate family were hunters, but you should just SEE the men who run around in "cammie" hunting attire. Great big old guts, ball caps, some "chaw" in their mouths at all times...and hanging 'round gas stations and drug stores.
Half of them, I 'spect, don't hunt a thing, but they like to fit in.
And lord have mercy...I have some sore eyes from some of the sights I've seen this time around! I'm apt to have some UGly dreams.

DR Jennifer I did know a couple of hunters when we lived in L.A. Most the hunters I have known were in the more rural areas we have lived in, here & in Pennsylvania. I have known hunters who do it just for sport, others who have explained the economics of it & use everything they kill.
When we lived in Pennsylvania, before the area was developed, we lived next to a corn field. During hunting season it was frustrating we couldn’t go into the woods & fields around us. Keith used to go into the corn field and destroy the hunter’s blinds. Many of our neighbors hunted & they all said they went farther into the country & were also upset hunters came into our neighborhood.
I suppose with everything there are responsible hunters & dangerous ones. Fortunately most of the ones I know personally are responsible, still when I hike during hunting season I wear bright colored tops & am careful where I go.

I'm going to try to see BENJAMIN BUTTON again today. Hopefully, I can get in.
I hope you make/made it in.
I just saw it and, frankly, I didn't like it that much.
Yes, it's a very well done picture. Fine acting, sensational make-up and production values, etc.
However, with the exception of the last 3-4 minutes, I never felt anything for these characters. Unlike THE READER, which I loved, I had no emotional investment in the film.
Too episodic. I couldn't wait for it to be over.
I know that many of you will disagree with me, but that's my opinion.

I'm sure that is only difficult if you don't believe in hunting. It wasn't always easy for our children to be vegetarians, especially when they were the only ones they knew. They understood the concept of not eating something that once lived & today both are almost vegan's, doing their best to take our belief's one step farther.

Today, I had Lean Cuisine Chicken Parmesan with Spaghetti for lunch.
I will not make that mistake again.
It was pseudo-food. It did not taste like chicken, or parmesan, or spaghetti.
*bleh*
It was cheap, I will admit. But I am at a total loss to understand why anyone would make a regular habit of this kind of eating, other than that it is cheap and some people totally lack taste buds.
And yet, every time one of the various and freezedried brands of this sort comes on sale, there are people who insist on stocking up.
The entire situation is, shall we say, distasteful.
:P

DR Druxy it is good to have different opinions.;)
-
I grew up in a family of hunters, however I never owned a gun nor did I gain a taste for the blood like my dad and my brothers did.
I prefer to see nature alive, not hanging, skinned.
And I never, ever missed not having a gun even as I lived in a gun toting part of the state.

But the idea of Big Brother really scared me.....and of course a couple of years later, when I read the book - I realized what had been LEFT OUT of the movie!

I guess I would prefer to live with the memory.

RE: the Southern Vampire Mysteries/ TRUE BLOOD.
I just found this comment on a discussion under Dead Until Dark (the first book).
It asks, "Anyway, wondering if I should read the books based on True Blood and if anyone knows how they coincide w/ the series. IE is the series related to a specific book ? IE first season first book ??
ANSWER:
Season one of True Blood coincides with the first book, Dead Until Dark. I started reading it because I was sad that the series was over. I have to say I am disappointed. This is a rare case of the show being better than the book.
*******8
This makes me wonder if i should read more than the first book now. It never occured to me that the entire first season of TRUE BLOOD was only one book. If the killers and such are the same i would not want to spoil season 2.
Normally i tend to prefer a book to the tv/movie version. But I thought the tv series was very well done and loved the casting. Interesting!

Actually, there are many good things about the 50s film version of 1984. No, it's not the book or perfect, but I really like O'Brien and Jan Sterling, and Michael Redgrave is really excellent. The score is very good, and I just have a fond place for it. They used to show it regularly here on channel 9's Million Dollar Movie.

The mail system must be a bit slow because of the weather as I got still more Christmas cards today....two from DRs....TCB and Rodzinski.
TCB your card is just fantastic and it is was wonderful to see the kitties...and the shot of you on the back of the card...what a cool idea!
Rodzinski's card came by way of Alabama!

DR Vixmom, how many more chemo treatments do you have? Are you doing chemo and radiation at the same time?
Yes, we are doing them concurrently. Apparenlty the usual method is to runa course of chem o and tehna course of radiation or vie versa, but they are treating this very aggressively as I am younger and healthier than the usual person who gets this disease. Apparently the average patient is a male smoker between the ages of 65 - 80.
I am expected to do a total of three chemos, Monday will #2. I have had a radiation treatment every weekday morning since December 9 (Christmas excepted) - I have the weekends to recuperate.
BTW I feel great again today except for a severe sore throat - I actually have been given a numbing agent for that but I am holding off for the nonce - I donlt want to throw any more drugs into me than I absolutely need and the throat is not so bad that I feel the need to numb it yet.
-
DR Vixmom it is so very nice to read you feel great except for the sore throat. A severe sore throat isn't fun. I'm impressed you are holding off on the numbing agent. I would have thought it is a spray. What form does it come in?
-
Well I suppose I should go do some more Productive Things - chemo comes on Monday and I am expecting to be useless most of next week
Does this just knock you out to the extent that you spend most of your time sleeping, or can you concentrate enough to read?
Unfortumately last time I spent most of my time retching - they are planning on trying a new course of anti-nauseous meds on me this time so hopefully things will be a bit less tedious - last time I went from Wednesday until Sunday without being able to keep anything in my stomach which caused the need for three emergencvy visists to the chemo oncologist for intravenous feeding and hydration. Poor Vixdad and Vixter were besides themselves wqith worry - I was too weak and out of it to worry or care.
This time I am hoping to be able to sleep and wactch some of my Christams presents. I am particularly looking forward to the Monty Python boxed set to help keep all of our spirits high
-
DR vixmom - So... What totally indulgent treat are you going to eat today? ;)
Carnation Instant Breakfast in milk chocolate flavor and chocolate pudding - and probably one or two of Larry's Godiva chocolates
I consider it a blessing that the only flavor I can still tate is choclate - could you imagine if it was liver?!
-
DR Vixmom, it sounds like you are receiving good care.
BIG TIME VIBES THE NEW ANIT-NAUSEOUS MEDS WORK!!!

I meant to mention to you that one of my gifts from Vixdad was photo history of AUdrey Hepburn - beautiful pictures

DH Richard and I are going to start watching Cranford now.

Here is my Dumb Question of the Day:
My brother gave me a flash drive card that works in my camera. When I turn it on, it still shows that I only have space for 14 photos.
Do I have to do something so that my camera KNOWS it has more space?
You might have to change the memory selection in your camera so it know to save to the card instead of to the camera

My sister will be getting one-half of the chemo for one cancer, then a month of weekday radiation for the other cancer; then the second half of the chemo for the first cancer. They said it would be too toxic to do it all at once. Different drugs, I guess.
-
I hope this second round of chemo is less taxing on you, Vixmom.
-
And different approaches for different situations. Will your sister begin the treatments soon?
-
Today, I had Lean Cuisine Chicken Parmesan with Spaghetti for lunch.
:P
HEY!!! Don'0t make fun of the tastebud deprived, buddy!
;D
Seriously thpough, I suspect that most of the people who are eating that are using them for diets and for an easy and cheap lunch they can heat in the office microwave

DR Vixmom it is so very nice to read you feel great except for the sore throat. A severe sore throat isn't fun. I'm impressed you are holding off on the numbing agent. I would have thought it is a spray. What form does it come in?
It's a "cocktail" of three ingredients - I am saving it until I really need it

I actually very much like the Lean Cuisine Roasted Vegetable Pizza as well as the Spinach and Mushroom Pizza.

probably - it might also be because it is a different type of cancer. Since the cancer is in my mouth and neck the radiation is pinpointed there and my internal organs are not exposed to it so I am sure that makes a great deal of difference.
-
Laura I suppose there will be plenty of people off of work on the 1st if she needs help.
-
I hope this second round of chemo is less taxing on you, Vixmom.
Thank you - I must admit so am I ... at least this time we have a better idea of what to expect, so hopefully it will be a little less scary

My friend who recently had brain surgery received a series of very intense radiation. They could make it intense for the same reason.

Keep up the good vibes , dear ones.
TOD yesterday:
I watched "Pollyanna" with my aunt. I had not seen since 1960 or so, and it was mighty powerful. very sweet, and not sappy. Best of all, it didn't have that 60's/70's look that "period" films often did.
My power has been out throughout most of the day, so I am just catching up (although I never really catch up).
-
Vixmom, maybe less scary but if you are that so it won't be more tolerable. I'm praying you don't get that sick again.

Good night!

Oh - I had my hairs cut just before Christmas. I must get the Vixter to take a picture soon.
I have noticed today that I have lost couple of handfuls in the back of my head - so far it's the "underneath hair" that's gone so it's not too obvious but I suppose I should start thinking about a wig or scarves. I do jhave the lovely crocheted hat that DR Jane sent to me as well (thanks again for that!) Did I mention Jane how we loved the card with Sherlock on it?
-
Good night Elmore. I am glad you are enjoying your visit with your family. I hope ypouare all over your cold

In Portland a couple inches of rain through Saturday was expected to wash away much of the 19 inches of snow that by one measurement had made December the city's snowiest month since January 1950.
I didn't know it snowed in Portland.
It sure did in Iowa"

I also received a card from Dear TCB. I need to go back and read what happened since I last posted. I hope all is going well for him and for his Dear Friend Stan.

Sitting here outside the sceening place. The owner is not here and will apparently be late. Very annoying indeed, but I've got my iPhone to keep me warm.
-
I tried to go out for a little while this afternoon. I thought it would do me good. Well, it did and it did not. Since I didn't have any Christmas presents, I kept telling myself that I deserved to buy myself this. And that. And that and that. But it's ok. I'm broke but happy. :)
I'm also stocked up on wrapping paper, gift tags and Christmas Cards for next year. I also love the Christmas stocking I got--it has levels to tell Santa how naughty or nice you have been. From "Lump of Coal Naughty", "Very Naughty", "Naughty", "Nice on Occasion" thru "Nice".

I'm still eating soup and crackers. I was so tired when I got home that I just left half of what I bought in the car to go in and lay down for awhile.

About an hour ago, a BIG chunk of snow slid off the roof and landed right outside my office window! :o Fortunately, there's an overhang and the ground outside is several feet below the floor level of where I am. But man, it was loud!
So distressing to be suddenly awakened during the work day.

The weather is wonderful! We've been in the '80's. They do say we will have a cold front on Monday night going into Tuesday. I think that has a lot to do with people being ill. Hot one day, freezing the next. You body can't adjust from the low 80's to upper 30's in the space of one day over and over again.
I'm in a coat one day and shorts the next.

I just finished watching "The Rise of The Silver Surfer" . It was ok but like most of todays movies, I'm glad I didn't buy it.
I did get the little known sequel to "A Christmas Story". I caught it one time about half way though and always wanted to see the whole thing. Netflix didn't have it so I got it off of Ebay. Different actors but same characters.

I don't have the books which is why i wanted to know.
I do like to read the amazon reviews. I had already read a lot from book 1 but could not really tell from that.
Btw, i just finished season one of TRUE BLOOD. When does season 2 start??
Summer 2009, I believe.

Well, I lied, but it was certainly unintentional.
The always scintillating Dr. Drew Casper DOES appear on the FUNNY FACE bonus features, in one that was ported over from last year's release. He's rhapsodizing about how Paris is another character in the film. The featurette is fairly pointless, to be honest.
-
[
I'm sure that is only difficult if you don't believe in hunting. It wasn't always easy for our children to be vegetarians, especially when they were the only ones they knew. They understood the concept of not eating something that once lived & today both are almost vegan's, doing their best to take our belief's one step farther.
Well, in many areas if man did not cull the deer herds you would have fewer vegies to eat. There is the option of poisoned bait. Or we could reintroduce mountain lions, bob cats and wolves and hide the pets and children.
der Brucer
-
I did do the A/B comparison with the previous FUNNY FACE DVD. There isn't a penny's worth of difference between the two transfers. If I were forced to, I'd say there may be the slightest increase in color saturation in the new release, but that could be chalked up to the differences in the two machines being used in the comparisons. I feel sure it's the same transfer.
This film would certainly look stunning in high def.
-
Once I finished with my work duties, I put on THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY which I haven't watched in several years. I'm sure the droll story of burying and digging up the aforementioned Harry tickled Hitchcock no end, but I think it runs on about 10 or 15 minutes too long. Still, it's certainly a change of pace from his usual suspense thrillers.
-
How ironic that some of you were talking about POLLYANNA. I came very close to plucking that or THE PARENT TRAP off the shelf to watch, but I went another way inevitably.
I picked MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS. I had already watched it once when I first got the disc, so it was a pleasure to watch it a second time. I'm sorry they had to speed through the entire conspiracy against Elizabeth section (done so beautifully in "Horrible Conspiracies" in ELIZABETH R), but otherwise, it's a beauty to watch. I've always loved the score to this film.

Sorry that I haven't posted before now. I spent the morning and most of the afternoon at the hospital. When I came home I got very sleepy.
They are now only trying to keep Stan comfortable, which was his wish. He is on a morphine drip, he is still receiving oxygen, and they are continuing to give him medication to slow the seizures he is still having. They are far less violent than the ones he had yesterday, but these smaller ones seem to come every fifteen to twenty minutes. If the current medications don't stop the seizures by this evening, they were going to add an additional medication. They are only giving him a minimum amout of IV fluids, just enough to give the shunt open for other drugs.
Nothing more to report. I left Mark at the hospital this afternoon, but he hasn't called, so I assume there has been no changes.

Good idea. Is there a less toxic spray you can use in the meantime?
When I was hospitalized with a fungal infection of my esophogus, they gave me Lidocaine to squirt on the back of my throat so I could swallow - it took care of the pain, but you had to cope with a numb tongue if you didn't apply it precisely.

I can't remember the first time I shot a gun. I know that my favorite place at summer camp starting when I was either 8 or 9 years old was the rifle range. I was a very good shot. I also shot trap with family one thanksgiving when I was in high school. I was better with the guys and didn't get invited again, lol.
Now, I don't own a gun, don't have any interest in one, but if I was ever in a situation where there was one there and I needed to use it to protect me or someone else, I wouldn't be afraid of it and I would know how to use it. I don't think that's such a bad thing

DR Cillaliz - I love the Holy Toast too!

I have had a very busy day. I went to curves and discovered that I have now lost 25 pounds. Woo and Hoo! I did a little shopping and can fit into pants that are 2 sizes smaller than the pants that were too tight last summer, so that really pleased me.
-
Then I went to Menards and bought paint for the hallway downstairs. I have to get the all the painting, wall paper etc done before the carpet is installed and this is about the only time I have to do it. So tonight I primed the walls and will paint tomorrow. If I get it done quickly I may prime the bathroom in the basement and get started on that update.

And speaking of friends...
I was invited over to have dinner tonight with my friends, Chris and Jeff, and their son, Henry - who is now 28 months! -Oh, and Betty too - their dog. I mustn't forget Betty. ;)
I hadn't seen them in a while since Chris was in a show in Denver for a few months, and Jeff had a string of conferences back to back over the past couple of months. But everyone has been back home since Thanksgiving, and now that the holidays have started to settle down...
I can't believe how big Henry has gotten. He's walking - and running - as well starting to build his vocabulary. -We all learned tonight that when he asks for "paper", he means "napkin". ;) For dessert, we had cheesecake, and Henry wanted to try a bite, so... The look on his face and the sound of JOY that came out of him as he had his first taste of Junior's was priceless! He even did a little wiggle-dance to express his satisfaction. We could not stop laughing for a good five minutes. (It sort of reminded me of the "dance" I did when I discovered the City Bakery outpost in the West Village. ;)) Of course, he then went from Chris, to Jeff then to me asking for another bite. Alas, I had already finished my piece by the time he got to me, but he didn't get too upset. ;)
All in all, it was a great way to spend the evening of the Second Day of Christmas. It was nice to be a part of their family tonight. -And Chris made a killer Shepherd's Pie (not topped with actual shepherd on top) for dinner, as well as a great sauteed green bean side dish. And, yes, I did bring more cookies too. :)

DR JMK - You can purchase the "Standard Version" of "Sleigh Ride" off of Warner Bros. digital site: FreeHandMusic.com.
Here's the direct link to the music: http://www.freehandmusic.com/ProductDetail.aspx?prodid=404411&PreviewPage=1
It's six pages long, so it should be complete. If not, there are a couple of other versions listed on their site.
-
DR JMK - Freehand also lists the version by "The Carpenters" on their site too.

Happiest of birthdays to E&T-from-HHW-board DR Julie, whom Jose and Skip and I saw (and to whom vixmom spoke) on Christmas, but who has been keeping busy with her indie movies and various theater-related projects.
Here's her imdb page, for people who like to follow these things

Sorry, I just don't understand hunting for sport.
I guess I understand it- but I personally would not enjoy it. I don't even like to trap rats.
(But since I enjoy the product, I wouldn't condemn the purveyor)

NOTE: No way is Grandpa going hunting with the lads!
