Well, you've read the notes, the notes were weary and boney, and now it is time for you to post until the weary cows come home.

Wow - it was a busy Saturday here at HHW....DR DANISE getting her house even more improved, DR CILLA LIZ buying new clothes and dancing in her old ones, MR BK dissing Mr John Scott's culinary skills but not his music talent, DR JOSE seeing MILLIONAIRE again....

And that was JUST the beginning.

Sorry to hear about Susannah Foster, DR MBARNUM.....not a beauty - but I liked her singing.

And the premiere of DAMAGES (which you guys had a couple weeks ago).

And THE MENTALIST is on tonight (new).  IT will be on CBS after the football game. So it is supposed to be at 10pm but it could be delayed!

Good morning, all! I was up until 1:30 reading Mr Spinetti's biography, and his chapters on the Beatles and their movies were really wonderful. I liked his thoughts on Ms Yoko Ono's influence very much. I also enjoyed his stories about Joan Littlewood and the Theatre Workshop and his debacle in SKYSCRAPER, a musical theatre disaster not only for him but for several others, except Charles Nelson Reilly.

Today, another look at this symphony chart that's been the bane of this weekend and a lot of Act Two edits on BABES IN TOYLAND.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Wishes to DR Charles Pogue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning!

Yes, it's still cold, but it's not frigid like we've had the past two days. It's actually getting into the high 30s today and into the 40s tomorrow, much more typical January weather. I like not having to worry about my pipes bursting because of the extreme temperatures.

Overcast today, too. They had predicted a wintry mix, but so far nothing on that score.

And I'll be working on CHEERS - The Final Season today as well. Should be able to get a fair number of episodes watched today. It's such a funny show, one I always enjoyed when I watched, but as I wasn't in the TV habit back then (1992-93), there will be plenty of these episodes that I've never seen.

My friends Charlie and Todd who work for USAIR do fly out of North Carolina where they live - they also regularly work the flight that crashed this week.  But Thursday they were both home with the flu.

The know the pilot and the other FA's who worked the flight.  They like the pilot a lot, say he is very friendly and an old movie fan just as they are.  They also said the head FA on the downed flight is Donna who has been flying since 1982.  She always wears a lot of makeup and tall heels....so they were interested to see her standing in her stockings at the door of the plane helping people off....

Take the Window Out Day was successful. The thing about pushing a heavy piece of furniture out a window is that you have gravity on your side. A little push is all it takes--at least from the top. The trick, of course, is to get it down safely. It appears that that objective was achieved. As far as I know it suffered no damage. Boy, am I glad THAT'S over!

However, I started the day with a frozen pipe. Ugh! Fortunately, Matt had just arrived when I discovered it. This happened ten years ago also and after the first incident I had a small access panel built into the exterior wall of the kitchen. That spot is vulnerable. It's right behind the dishwasher and there isn't room in the wall for much insulation. Keeping the cabinet doors open doesn't help, because the heat can't get back there. Matt removed the access panel ("I can't believe there's a part of your house I don't know about!"), then used a portable heater to thaw the pipe. He used some insulation we had left over from another project to maximize protection. As frozen pipe incidents go, this actually went quickly and smoothly.

Re the pilot: I'm pleased that he and the crew are getting so much attention and praise.  Personally, I'd like to see a few more heroes on the landscape. I suspect there are others around who may not get the attention they deserve, partly due to all the stories about corruption and greed.

Just my 2 cents.

For DVD and book collectors:

As those of you regulars here know, I am moving from Los Angeles to Austin, TX in late March.

My wife and I have begun the huge job of packing and, yesterday, I finished going through my gigantic collection of DVDs, culling out titles that I will never watch again.

I now have somewhere between 1200-1500 individual titles or box sets (including TV shows) that I would like to get rid of before we leave.

I've promised BK first dibbs, but if any of you other folk who live in/aroud Los Angeles are interested, we can make an appointment and you can come over and peruse what I have to sell.

Unless something is very RARE/OOP, I'm figuring that individual titles will go for $5.00 each and sets will go from between $15-$20.

If you're not in Los Angeles, you can send me a "want list" and I'll see if I have the title.  [Sorry there are just too many titles for me to make up a list, but there are a lot of goodies here.]

Those of you who are interested, please send me a private message.

BTW: I haven't finished going through my books yet, but I do have a couple of complete Time-Life Sets currently available for LOCAL purchase, THE EPIC OF FLIGHT and THE SEAFARERS.

Hawaii is a beautiful place, if you don't spend all your time in Honolulu (or Honey-lulu as Dennis the Menace called it when I was a kid).  Honolulu reminds me of Seattle with palm trees, but you must visit Pearl Harbor.  Unless you are a party animal, I think you would much prefer Kona or Maui.

I liked Charles Nelson Reilly a lot. Every visit he made to Drama Book Shop was a hoot and when he'd call with questions he'd ask for me. He was very intelligent and well-read and he'd spend a bit of time in the shop cruising the clerks. In 1979-1980 we had a very handsome and very smarmy clerk named Craig who went out with Mr Reilly a few times hoping to push his acting career. Charles deserved better. Crag's roommate Richard kept company with Evil Queen Director John Dexter for a while for the same reasons.

More to follow when my bio gets published. Names will be named and tales told.

I'm up, I'm up... And I think I will take this chance to change over to the Food Network from Fox News...

Done.

And speaking of Fox News...

They just did a segment "complaining" about how the broadcast rights to some of the Inaugural Events this weekend have been sold/bought by various networks thus making them not "accessible to everybody".  Of course, the big focus was on today's Lincoln Memorial concert which is being carried on HBO... And it wasn't until after the commercial break that they acknowledged that it was also being carried by NPR.  -Thus making it available to everyone, albeit on the radio, but still to "everyone".  And, apparently, the commentators didn't realize that there is a difference between having "digital cable service" and having "HBO".... Yadda, yadda, yadda...

I will say it again. My name MUST be among the first on that list for a copy!

Then, I watched the first seven episodes of CHEERS from its final season. No wonder they spun Kelsey Grammer off into FRASIER after CHEERS ended. He is the most reliable funny man in the ensemble. He and Bebe Neuwirth just broke up in the episode I finished.

I've been at the office for most of the day.  My desk is now cleaned off, I've been through every file and made my to do list and now I'm waiting for the computer to finish backing up and I think then I'll leave.

I also decided that I'm going to New Orleans for an NACDL meeting the day after Mardi Gras.  I booked my flight, booked my room and paid the registration fee.  I haven't been to NO since Katrina, so it will be interesting to go back.   The seminar is 2 days so I'll have a day free to do whatever I want to.  I used to go to 4 of these meetings a year when I was on the board. Now I'm lucky if I make it to one and it's usually a meeting in NYC so I don't spend time with my friends from the group.    I'm really looking forward to this.   I also have to go to St. Paul in Feb to argue at the 8th Circuit, so I'm hoping the weather is good that month for flying.

Ugh! The last few days have been a real exercise in the perils of being a pack rat and the advantages of minimalism. A lot of what I'd "saved" I hadn't really saved (intentionally) at all; it just piles up and I don't always have time to go through it. Sigh.

I'm not as far along as I'd hoped to be. The packers arrive this coming Thursday, the movers the day after. Matt has disassembled all that needed such--my stationary bike, my desk, my lingerie chest. Plus he took down the antique chandelier that I'll take with me and installed an inexpensive, but quite decent one in its place. Done.

But still lots to do. DR DRUXY is quite right to start early. I started early, too, and it's still a big task.

Matt has disassembled all that needed such--my stationary bike, my desk, my linergie chest. Plus he took down the antique chandelier that I'll take with me and installed an inexpersive, but quite decent one in its place. Done.

But still lots to do. DR DRUXY is quite right to start early. I started early, too, and it's still a big task.

There must be a joke in there somewhere when you use the words chest and lingergie in the same sentence, but I am not witty enough to figure it out.   FJL?

Providing set-ups for humor is one of the things I do here.  ;)

I am loving this HBO broadcast; I keep getting all teary.

Same here.

And I'm so glad that it was not programmed as a "Greatest Hits" type of affair.  Very tasteful. Very patriotic. Very inclusive. Even sacred.  Definitely something that will be staying on the DVR for a while.

And then Beyonce showed up to bring me down with her lousy rendition of "America the Beautiful."

There was an AMERICAN IDOL contestant, or finalist, or winner singing the National Anthem at the Cardinals Eagles game this afternoon that was a total knockout.  Somebody Sparks?

Jordin Sparks.  -Who I guess is now off of her "vocal rest".

I just finished watching a 1931 poverty row film which starred David Manners. It was great fun! But now I don't know what to watch next.

I haven't watched any of the inauguration...in fact I have never watched any inauguration...but I will read about it in the newspaper.

I am enjoying DR Jose's description. I really think this president will do a good job, at least as far as trying to bring people together, instead of apart. Of course it is really up to "the people" to follow through with it.

I cannot testify to what black Americans feel as our nation celebrates the inauguration of our first African-American president. But I can speak for myself, as a white American who grew up in the segregated nation’s capital of the 1960s. Barack Obama’s day is one that I never thought would come, and one that I still can’t quite believe is here.

Last week I joined a group of journalists at an off-the-record conversation with the president-elect, a sort of preview of the administration’s coming attractions. But as I walked some desolate downtown blocks to the standard-issue federal office building serving as transition headquarters, ghosts of the past mingled with hopes for the future. The contrast between the unemployed men on Washington’s frigid streets and the buzzing executive-branch bees inside was, for me, as old as time.

I actually wish I could watch more of the inauguration. Unfortunately I have immigration court.  It's a telephonic hearing, so I'll have the TV on in my office part of the day.    It's an historic occasion and a day when I think politics should be set aside and we should cheer the fact that we live in a country where power can change hands without a coup or civil war.  No matter how cynical I may be, I really truly wish Obama the best and hope that he turns out to be all that many people believe he is.

“Volunteers on the scene gave out more than 700 white blankets emblazoned with the agency’s logo, along with boxes upon boxes of sweatsuits and 900 pairs of socks”

DR Edi - my intent in commenting on the baggy clothes wasn't that you don't look ok at work, that's an issue I have to deal with. It's just that trying on the smaller sizes and having them fit was a real ego boost for me, thought it might cheer you too

And my comment was just that I understand that you have a job where you deal with the public and it's more important to look put together. I don't mind wearing baggy clothes---I just don't want to go shopping until I really need to. I hate shopping for clothes, or shoes for that matter!

Back from the little birthday party, which was fun.  It was for Ford Thaxton, the fellow who owns BSX Records, and a long-time record producer.  Some very interesting folks were there, including John Morgan and Bill Stromberg, who do a lot of soundtrack re-recordings, most recently some wonderful-sounding Herrmann recordings of Fahrenheit 451 and Mysterious Island.  Also, M.V. Gehard, who owns a soundtrack label called Lalaland Records.  And composer Chuck Cirino, very nice chap.  It was fun.

Hi folks,

This may be the last evening I can post for at least the next 2 weeks.

After I went out for the hardware shopping, we got to talking and he suggested that with everything that is wrong with the house that we simply gut it and start over.

Now by "gut" I mean they will tear all the walls down so they can get to the wiring but they won't change the inside set up of the house.

When it is all said and done I will in essence have an entire new house with all new insulation.  Because they have to tear everything out, it was decided that I will have central heat and air.  The only thing I may have to give up is the utility room.  I may still get one but it won't be as big as I had hoped.  I don't have the money for everything.

On the plus size, since they are totally redoing the walls, I will have all new cabinets in the kitchen.  The entire house will have tile floors as well.

I will get a brand new stove, fridge and microwave (the microwave is going to go over the stove) but I might have to keep the washer I already have (that's fine with me) and get a used drier for the time being (that's also ok with me).  I've never had brand new appliances.

I'm happy and scared to death.  I just wish it was all over.

Sheena may have to go to the kennel for a few days and I may have impose myself on Thelma for the week.  I feel so bad about even having to ask her if I could stay.

Prior to that, I Xeroxed pages and brought them to muse Margaret.  I came back home briefly and got a call from her before I left for the party, and she'd already read them and really loved them - just the kind of thing I love to hear on a beautiful Sunday.  She had four little suggestions, all right on the money, which I'm going to do right now.  Two involve tiny little changes, and two involve adding a couple of paragraphs - she's so good at seeing these things.  On one the them I'd almost done exactly what she was suggesting but I worried that it would have slowed things down - it won't and it will be better with the little addition.  And that is why we love muse Margaret.  She also gave me a piece of chocolate cake to take home - no flour - literally just chocolate, butter, and egg whites.  It looks quite yummilicious and I shall have it later this evening.

And I know that you've said that you can trust the people doing the work, but have you signed any sort of papers yet?  And for a remodel that drastic, I'd think having some sort of legal counsel would be a good idea too.

Sorry, DRs Cillaliz and Jane and anyone else who's wondering.  Richard and I have been talking for a year or so about how nice it would be to have a one-story house with the laundry not in the basement.  We've been going to open houses once in a while, just to get an idea of what we like and what we don't.  Today, he was grossed out by the fact that, in the master suite, you had to go through the bathroom to get to the huge walk-in closet.  Seemed pretty impractical to me.  No wonder they haven't been able to sell that house since it was built on spec.

The day that Hurricane Ike hit (Sept. 13) we stopped at an open house on the way home from church and took a quick look at a house just after the power had gone off.  It was as close to perfection for me as we'll come (except for the location, but you can't have everything).  When we passed it today, with the sign still out front, I said that to Richard and he said, "I thought you didn't like it."  Think we might make an appointment to go have another look, with the lights on and our lines of communication open.

You have to remember that my house is only 600 square feet and he's putting 2 crews to work on it starting tomorrow morning.  One will do the outside and one will start on the inside.

Two crews, the answer to my question. :)  You have picked a good time to do this.  Normally keeping one crew on a job is difficult.

Thank you all.  I'll take all the vibes I can get.  :)

There was just so much wrong--I knew it but I was just trying to do what I could.  The contractor saw it and when I told him my story about Mom not wanted to work on the house and how I stayed with her these past 30 years, he said I needed some help and he was going to do everything he could to give me a comfortable home.

I haven't been that good.   I did what anyone would have done.   I just keep wishing Mom could be here to enjoy this as well.

DR Ginny at times I miss having a two story house, until I'm cleaning or not feeling well.  You might find some of the one story homes have higher ceilings which are great.

We have our closet in our bathroom.  Actually I find it very convenient.  We also have a door to the toilet so the bathroom isn't completely open.  Some privacy is nice. ;D

He is.  I met his wife on Saturday.  She was already telling him things he could do to the house.  I was so embarrassed to show them the house the way it is.  I don't think they could believe some of the things I've put up with all these years.  She kept saying, "We'll fix that, won't we honey?"  I think his list of things to do kept getting longer and longer and it wasn't me doing the talking.  :)

I would rather have a small laundry room than one in the basement, especially when having it in the basement makes two flights of stairs.

DR Ginny is your basement finished?  I called our first basement the dungeon.  It wasn't as bad doing laundry in a finished basement.

Oh, and on the boxer story.  He was at my house again last night.

The kid came knocking about eight PM.  I don't think they knew he was gone before then.

Sigh.  There is nothing I can do for that dog now.  There is no way I'm taking on another animal when I'm going through all of this house stuff.  I no longer can afford 2 dogs.  At least, not until things settle down and I see where I'm at.

Yeah, I've seen those split set-ups in plans and liked them, but this required that you walk right through the middle of the bathroom (all fixtures in one room) to get to the closet.

Wow! Danise, this sounds great!  I can understand being scared, but it will be a great house when you're done.  As long as you can swing it financially, I say You Go Girl!!!!

No, but it's not quite a dungeon.  I'm just getting more and more concerned about either one of us trying to go down the steps carrying a full basket of dirty clothes.  We've talked about installing a laundry chute (no good location) or moving the laundry room to the main floor.

I'm getting a kick out of the new and all this "historic moment" stuff.  It sure is--at least for me!

I remember when Mom and I painted the living room and had the TV off all day only to find they had that big police man hunt for Hank Earl Carr.  I told Mom, he could have come down our street and we wouldn't have known anything was going on!

Danise, when I had my little house at the lake...it was a very little house. I had a friend who was just getting started as a contractor.  I asked him to make my screened in porch a room and he proposed a new addition to the house with a master bedroom and a big living room.

I know you're gutting and redoing not adding on, but I have to tell you as messy as it was, they completed the entire thing in less than a month. From pouring the foundation to having the carpet installed and the walls painted.  We did it during an off time when the sub contractors were available.  I was very scared at the time, but in the end, it was lovely. I really enjoyed it while I still lived there  and it helped me sell the house for a profit when I finally decided it was time to sell that house.

DRs Cillaliz and Jane - RE: Frank Rich's Op-Ed piece...  I think your viewpoint all depends upon where, when and "how" you grew up.  -Just read some of the 370+ comments (so far).  And some of the comments/stories are quite moving.

Sadly(?), I do have to agree with Mr. Rich in regards to the whole racial make-up and dynamic of Washington, DC, itself.  Having grown up just outside the DC line, and worked many years in DC proper, the racial dynamic in DC is truly something unique, for better or worse.  And with all the new development going on right now in some formerly impoverished areas of the city, well... It will be interesting to see how the Nation's Capital will evolve during Obama's administration.

I just acquired a very interesting album, "David Merrick Presents Hits from His Broadway Hits" featuring Ann-Margret and John Gary.  Miss Ann-Margret interprets "Our Language of Love" from IRMA LA DOUCE, "As Long as He Needs Me" from OLIVER!, "Is It Really Me?" from 110 IN THE SHADE and "Love Makes the World Go 'Round" from CARNIVAL!; leading one to believe that at the time she could have played any one of those roles onstage.  Well, her Lili in CARNIVAL! would have been quite interesting to say the least.

I got that, just sharing my viewpoint.  I remember reading everything I could on the brave families in the South who fought for the simple rights of all people, i.e. riding in the front of a bus, drinking from any fountain, using any bathroom & eating in any restaurant.  We have come a long way. :)

I can see her as Lizzie in 110 in the Shade!!  LOL!

Speaking of Missy Ann-Margret, are any other DRs big fans of her work like me?
AFAIC, she's wonderful to watch even in such dreck as THE PLEASURE SEEKERS and KITTEN WITH A WHIP.
I thought she was very good in "52 Pickup."  I loved "Bye, Bye, Birdie" just because it was fun and didn't know how much they'd changed the play.  And it is still fun.  As a kid, I liked her in "State Fair, " but it's almost embarassing to watch her in it now.  "Viva Las Vegas" is the quintessential Ann Margaret film.    I liked her in the made for TV movie with Julie Andrews  too about her son dying of AIDS.

It's not the set, but could be the cable feed. The audio on the pre-recorded segments is also messed up so it doesn't seem to be the live feed. But as George mentioned, it's not too horrible, and some folks probably wouldn't notice. It looks fabulous (apart from the locked down extreme wide shot where the color balance is off.)

Ah, but the "Isn't It Kinda Fun?" number does have to be seen to be believed!  It was later revisited in its own way in VIVA LAS VEGAS' "Appreciation."

Yes, but "Isn't It Kinda Fun" in the original was charming, and AM's version is so crass and brash.  Wonderfully tacky!   She's kind of like Cheez-Whiz in that movie.

I ate the chocolate cake, which was as good as it looked.  I've started a French motion picture from France, but have also bee cleaning out some cabinets, which were piled with crap I didn't need and have now thrown away, thereby clearing up some much needed space - I can place tapes and CDs in these bathroom cabinets.

DR Ginny are you seriously looking or just looking to see what's out there  (at houses, that is)

I'm wondering the same thing.  You sort of left us dangling there ;)

What street's it on?

North Breiel Blvd., just north of Nelson Road.  That's the big drawback - no street parking (except on the cross street) and having to back out of the driveway into three lanes of southbound traffic.  Not heavy traffic, but traffic nonetheless.

What street's it on?

North Breiel Blvd., just north of Nelson Road.  That's the big drawback - no street parking (except on the cross street) and having to back out of the driveway into three lanes of southbound traffic.  Not heavy traffic, but traffic nonetheless.

I wouldn't like that at all.

DR Ginny, maybe you shouldn't look at it.

No music at the party - it was at a local pizza joint - I had two tiny slices, not really enough to eat for a whole day, but then again, I also had cake at home.  Margaret was very happy with the additional paragraphs - she laughed out loud, so that's good.

I did like Beyoncé's jacket, though...

The Presidential Bash on NBC looks like fun. And since we seem to have free HBO today, I get to watch FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS. Yay!

The east coast feed of free HBO ended right after the concert.  The west coast feed is available because the concert hasn't been shown yet.  I'll record that as well...just to make sure.

Speaking of Pete Seeger, an interesting thing my DH noticed while he was spending so much time at the hospital was that he kept hearing the song, Turn, Turn, Turn. He finally realized that they play it at the top of every hour, I guess so that the staff can keep track of their shifts. Must keep everyones' clocks synchronized!

I was always very glad I did not live in the south.  I feared I would not be brave enough to speak up.

It wasn't just the south, they were just more blatant about discrimination.

In Philadelphia, noted as "The First Free City" the blacks just knew to keep their place. They could shop in the downtown department stores (if they used the rear employee entrances). They could not use the fitting rooms and clothing they bought was non-returnable. They had their neighborhoods, stores, theatres churches. If one black family moved into an area, the whole block went up for fire sale.

I'll still never forget when Judge Hastings (ex-Governor of the Virgin Islands) bought a lovely 18th Century mansion on a full square block piece of property in our area. His family decide to attend our church. The first Sunday they were there my cousin-in-law saw them approach the rail for communion and stormed out of the church yelling "No cup that has touched black lips will ever touch mine." I'm sure Jesus was pleased.

I also liked (but didn't love) the musical remake of THE AWFUL TRUTH with Ray Milland and Jane Wyman and Aldo Ray....

Jane Wyman was a pretty good singer and dancer - especially in JUST FOR YOU and HERE COMES THE GROOM with Bing Crosby.

And she started out as a perky blonde.    She released a few 45's in the 50's.  Or she relased a few 50's in the 45's.

See Randy Newman's song "Rednecks". It describes what Der B has written perfectly. Being from Ohio but spending most of my life in The South, (especially moving to a racially tense New Orleans from a small white farming town in 1959 at the beginning of school integration!) I can vow that the South did not have a corner on the racism market. It existed everywhere, but just in different ways.

I suspect that's the reason it hasn't sold.  Well, that and the fact that the economy tanked about the time it went up for sale.

I think we really do want to look at it with our likely realtor, a very good friend of my late mother-in-law, but close to our age.  Even if we don't pursue that particular house, we'd like her to know what our ideal looks like.

I did not know such overt racism existed in Philadelphia.  By the time we moved to the area, around 1983, it had improved drastically.  It still had a long way to go......

We lived about 45 minutes outside of the city.  Of all the places we have lived I found that to be the most prejudice area of all.  Actually it was the only place we lived that was outspoken about their feelings.  When we moved from there I did something I never considered before, I made sure there was a fairly decent Jewish population in the school district.

Attitudes were changing by the time we left & I'm sure they have continued to do so.

Ginny, most houses in Phoenix are one story.  After having had two broken ankles, I wouldn't live in a multi-story house.  When I have stayed in multi-storied houses whatever i have needed was another floor.  At one time we had a house that had a sunken bedrooom and a sunken living room due to the placement of air returns.  It was a little 800 sq. ft. gem.  At one point I had dislocated my knee and had to use crutches for about 10 days.  You couldn't go anywhere in that house without walking up or down two steps.  Later our dog had hip dysplasia, and I fully understood her difficulties!    Since then, it's been one level for me.  And just in time to break my ankles!

The last house I lived in with MusicGuy was a really great house in a great neighborhood.  We had just finished remodeling the kitchen in our existing house (about 4 blocks away) and were not looking to move.  But we saw this house  and its huge yard when out for a walk.  So making an offer on the new house was OK.  If it went through, fine.  If it didn't, the house we lived in was becoming exactly what i wanted it to be.  So there were no worries.  So as it turned out, we made an offer on this 1949 house that had a lot of land in a good neighborhood but needed a lot of work.  A sign was put on our old house house on Saturday; it was shown once on Sunday, and the offer came in Monday.   A far cry from about 20 years before when we really needed to sell the house and it sat on the market for over a year.   That's why i say do it when you have nothing to lose.

Charlotte was in the City this weekend for an audition for the Virginia Shakespeare Festival; she got a callback for MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, the play in which I made my acting debut, and, no, it was not in the original production.

I just finished Victor Spinetti's bio and I urge you all to run out and find a copy, if only for the fantastic story of his time in the army when he nearly became the barracks slut and Terence Rattigan's reaction. It's too rude to post here so read the book!

I had lots of fun stuff to watch tonight.

I began by finishing the season finale episode from NCIS' third season. Left me teary-eyed which is really silly since I saw (and reviewed) season four and know exactly how it all turned out. What appeared to be the end of an era wasn't at all.

I watched eight more episodes of CHEERS. Some enjoyable guest stars including the wonderful Roger Rees. Another featured Dan Hedaya as Carla's father. Very funny performance.

So I have 13 more episodes of CHEERS in the set. I will try to get them watched tomorrow, but we'll see. No real rush since the set doesn't come out until January 27th.

I thought DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES had the BEST episode I've seen in years. Beau Bridges will undoubtedly get an Emmy nomination as guest actor for this show, and it gave every one of the ladies marvelous opportunities interacting with him. How great to see Steven Culp back as Rex and Brenda Strong get to play Mary Alice once again.

BROTHERS & SISTERS. An OK episode, but could they telegraph the romantic interests any more obviously? What do you want to bet that Justin gets involved with that new sponsee. Or that Rebecca gets involved with Sarah's blonde partner? SO obvious.

I saw that THE MENTALIST started 20+ minutes late, so I set the DVR to record the next two programs after the scheduled end of THE MENTALIST just to make sure I got the entire episode.

OK... I just caught up on the part of today's Inaugural Concert that I missed earlier: The National Anthem.   Hmmm... Spoo?  Brave-   Braaaaaaaave  -And talk about a weird arrangement.

Good thing you did - it ran more than 30 minutes over, and the last scene is a cute one.

It helps with the timing if you also watch the football game :) (Which ran over because of a serious player injury.)

I have to record this.  I haven't watch last week's episode of both "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers and Sisters."  I'm watching last week's "B&S" right now so that I can watch tonight's "B&S" live.  I'll watch the two episodes of "DH" later.

I went and got some chicken soup from the deli.  It was good.  I've eaten too much today and didn't run, but I'll be back on track tomorrow.  Watched an hour-long show on DVD and am just relaxing and playing CDs.

What HAVE I eaten?  Let's see - two really slim pieces of pepperoni pizza.  One not huge slice of chocolate cake.  Two small biscottis (or one regular sized), one package of Fruity Snacks, one bowl of chicken soup, the end.
