Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a lot of G's, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently Googling the Cows.

And the word of the day is: FLOCCULATE!
Smoke on your pipe and put THAT in.

Wasn't that a breakfast cereal? COUNT FLOCCULA?

Welcome home, Laura DR!!! :)

I enjoyed your Lorna lyric, FJL. At least, the one that remained.

Morning all. We are back from Long Island and I'm about to return to the office.
We now have a GPS unit. Anthony decided to get one for the trip even though he has driven that way more than once. He's worried about wrong turns in New Jersey. The unit talks you through your turns. We programmed a friend's address into the machine yesterday and drove to his house, making a surprise visit. It worked like a charm.
That's it for now. Time to put on my shoes and walk to the office.
Later, gaters.
-
Hi, Ben! Nice to see you back!
-
bk, if you are talking about the clips from the version of The Brain that I edited, you asked for certain songs from the show so I made small quicktime files of them and brought them to your house on a flashdrive and you dragged those files to your laptop. (And then we watched your birthday video.) After that I'm not sure what the rest of the path was...
-
DAW - Didn't mean to be mysterious, but the one I removed was in exceedingly bad taste, but the rhymes went something like this imagined song (which has no basis in history):
You deserve a sis called Lorna
Namely she
One who'd help you turn the corna
Namely she
I deserve someone sweet and gentle
Someone to soothe my id
And I know just the one who did
Namely Sid

Good morning, all! Bring on the festivities! I am so excited about today's events in DC. After the frustrations of yesterday, I hope today is the proverbial sailing. I've got the Miami U Library looking for an original manuscript so my publisher and I can get a publication back on track, tonight I have my first Finale lesson (Oy! what was I thinking????), and I have a lot of work here, which I shall do as I watch the inauguration.
I also need to get back to my property selling in Ohio; I think Macbeth is waiting for some poor person to bid and then jump in with a counter offer, and I think I may foil him and sell to the other bidder just because i can. The only complication is my brother Randy, whom I do not want to put in the middle of this sibling stomping.
TOD: In the 1970s when I was doing a lot of community theatre, the hangout was a bar-restaurant called Duff's, long closed and I still miss the place and its excellent waitress Bev who was both a virtuoso at juggling orders and bills and a fan of the performers. My favorite hangout in Manhattansince the first day I stopped there was Barrymore's, also sadly gone and sorely missed.

We frequented the Dog N Suds, a root beer stand with fair food and great root beer. It looked a lot like this....it was torn down in the 80's and now there is a little strip mall there with a CURVES and a SUBWAY sandwich shop.

tonight I have my first Finale lesson

Fred, your fame on youtube has spread far and wide! A friend in North Carolina who doesn't know that I post here and he doesn't know anything about you or your parody has just forwarded the youtube link for Fish to Anthony. My friend calls it "simply priceless". I will have to let him know the 6 (or less) degrees of separation.

Welcome back, DR Ben!!!! :)

On tv tonight for me:
AMERICAN IDOL
90210, PRIVILEGED.
-
And now I must get to work. The office, like many others, was closed on Monday. Facilities and Services took the opportunity of the long weekend to do some maintenance which included painting the ceiling. We were warned well in advance. My desk was not disturbed BUT when I came in this morning there was a film of grit all over EVERYTHING. I spent most of the time between 6:30 (I ate breakfast first) and 8:00 cleaning up my desk and dusting everything.
There will be an opportunity to watch the Inaguration Festivities (if I so choose) by going to the Board Room at 11:30 and watching on the big television along with any other Foundation Center employees who choose to take part. I will probably just go home and eat lunch with Anthony and watch from the privacy of our living room.
-
Ben - Thanks to you and Anthony for letting me know! (It seems that Matt Windman of AM New York posted a link on his blog yesterday afternoon, so i wonder if that's how it started getting spread around.)
-
Have fun at work, DR BEN.
-
I'm just reading yesterday's posts. Vibes DR Elmore that you have a better day today. ~~~~~~~~
-
DR Jane, re: your PVR recording THE MENTALIST.
Obviously it doesn't know about the delays due to football.
Whenever a game is on i always check to see the status so i can adjust the show i am taping!
There was some interesting stuff at the beginning. Maybe you could check it out online.
-
Yesterday DR TCB wrote (about the Patti Lupone incident):
Now let me see if I understand this, the guy was thrown out for taking pictures, but the person who recorded this is proud enough to post it on YouTube?
Well the youtube is only an AUDIO.
But thanks to DAW for posting this link. VERY INTERESTING!

TOD:
High School, pre-driving: My friend Bob's bedroom which was actually the house's third story attic and also accessable by outside fire escape--perfect getaway from nosey parents.
High School, driving: My gang of friends usually hung out at the King of Pizza in Cherry Hill NJ, but that was good only for an hour or two. The parents of one friend owned and operated an ice cream parlour that we could hang at for an entire evening, but it usually wasn't a lot of fun to do that. Probably the best place was at Tippen's Pond by the Delaware River, where one could always find a free beer or a puff of weed. There was also some occasional skinny dipping until a toxic spill scare kept everyone away from the water.
College: for just drinking and eating and hanging we had the American House, which had a terrific assortment of appetizer snacks and great burgers and cheese stakes. And there was also the Khyber Pass over in Philly, which was pricier but had live music with appearances by some local bands that went on to become semi well-known like The Hooters, The A's and Robert Hazard. Some of my friends claim that Cyndi Lauper sang there too but I don't remember seeing her there at all.

Tuesday morning greetings! I have both televisions tuned to C-Span (currently muted) and will immerse in the inaugural festivities all day today. My feeling is that, regardless of one's politics, Inauguration Day should be a national holiday.

TOD: In the 1970s when I was doing a lot of community theatre, the hangout was a bar-restaurant called Duff's, long closed and I still miss the place and its excellent waitress Bev who was both a virtuoso at juggling orders and bills and a fan of the performers....
As soon as I saw BK's question, Duff's popped into my mind. I spent a lot of time there with DR Elmore and many of our community theatre co-conspirators, consuming burgers, fries, etc. One great memory was after a performance of "Trial by Jury" when we all serenaded Bev with the "...and a good job, too..." line after she'd delivered 20+ orders correctly without writing anything down. After Elmore moved to New York and I quit the stage, DH Richard and I continued to go there until Duff's closed. They had the best vegetable soup, which I've tried and tried to replicate, to no avail.
Sadly, Bev passed away not long ago.

I wish it was DR Ginny, I was actually pretty shocked when I learned that immigration court would be going on as usual. The court system is in full swing today as well. I do find that a little irritating.
-
I"m hoping that the judge either calls for our hearing early or really late so I can watch as much as possible. Back to work now....
-
Good Morning!
I awoke to about 1/4 inch of snow on the ground. We so very seldom have snow that it was a lovely sight. It'll likely be gone by tomorrow afternoon, but it was nice to see. Very cold outside, though. Feels like 20, but I suspect it's a bit higher than that.
-
I didn't go out at night to clubs or restaurants when I was a teenager. Truly, I didn't. The group of friends that I ran around with would play games and cook dinner and have recitals (singing, playing instruments, making radio shows on audio tape recorders) at each others' homes. We would occasionally all go to a movie together, but afterwards, would go home.
When I was doing theater regularly, there were two late night places we'd go to after a show: Athens and Landmark. Athens is gone now. Landmark is still around, and I suspect theater folk still go there.

On TV Tonight!™
FOX - AMERICAN IDOL, FRINGE
NBC - BIGGEST LOSER, INAUGURATION special

ABC - Inauguration Ball and then a report on the Inauguration
CW - 90210, PRIVILEGED
TNT - LEVERAGE

I'm going to work on the first movie of FRIDAY THE 13th today even though THE INVADERS comes out next week and the movie FRIDAY the week after. I want to get one of those grisly films out of the way.

BTW, the other TV show box set I got yesterday in addition to THE INVADERS, MELROSE PLACE, DAVE'S WORLD, and FRIDAY THE 13th (the series) was BECKER.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm hoping my friends that are on The Mall right now are staying safe, warm and healthy.

And here's an update on Flight 1549 from the AP:
Flight 1549 Passengers to Get $5K for Lost Bags
NEW YORK (AP) -- US Airways has sent $5,000 checks to each of the 150 passengers on Flight 1549 to compensate them for lost luggage and other belongings.
In a letter sent to passengers, an airline executive said she was "truly sorry.''
The letter also explained that passenger belongings left behind in the plane could be stuck with investigators for months.
The airline also said it would reimburse passengers for their ticket costs.

bk - As for "Slumdog Millionaire"... I think it's what leads to the vomit that, well... In any case...
Glad you liked it.
-
bk - As for iDVD...
I haven't used it in a while, but... You "Copy" the DVD - which does take some time, then you "Save As" in another format. Now, if you still have to break up the DVD into clips, well... That's something I'm not that adept at, and that would involve using iMovie.
-
I can’t give this my highest recommendation as it features a vomit scene.
Academy screenwriters and directors, take note! :)

Good Morning, DR Ron Pulliam.
Welcome back to work! :)
Thanks....I think.

I'm "time-shifting" and going in to work later so I can watch the inaguaration. I'm torn between going to a few gatherings which would be crowded and noisy, or watching at home by myself. I'm leaning towards the latter.

I've always thought it rude when folks do it in public, but it should be all right to discuss given the positive hygienic results of same.

It seems there are always games on. Fortunately this doesn't happen too often & I must admit with digital programing I don't even remember what night half my shows are on.

I'm awake and caught up.
TOD - I didn't hang out in high school. Not at a restaurant, not at someone's home, no where.
When I started doing theatre, we used to hang out at several local restaurant's that are now closed. It's all really sad, the theatre groups aren't around anymore and neither are the hangouts. Why can't it be like it was?

I'm up, I'm up. Well, I'm not sure I've been asleep. When my throat is feeling weird I just don't sleep - I doubt I got more than two or three hours but boy was my brain active - I even got up and wrote down a few things at one point.

It's still overcast outside, so if I'm going to run it won't be until later.

I don't think I'll be watching the inauguration - I just don't enjoy those things and the media on THIS particular inauguration makes me want to vomit on the ground.

DR Mark, your late night post was reminiscent of a Chuck Lorre vanity card.;D Currently I only read the ones at the end of THE BIG BANK, my favorite Chuck Lorre show.

Yes, thank you. :)

I watched the inauguration with a man who is in deportation proceedings after being in the country since the 80s and a legal permanent resident who has been here since she was a child and crossed the border with her mother in the night. We all sat in my office so we could see the TV. The judge didn't call for the hearing until the middle of the speech (of course) I couldn't help but smile watching the festivities, I mean how can you not be a proud during an inauguration.

Thanks Edi, I was enjoying it until the phone rang and I had to do a court hearing.

bk - Your throat issues - Is it possible that you've developed a case of acid reflux? -Which could be possible since you've started introducing more "regular" foods back into your diet lately.
Nope, I'm pretty sure it's allergies. I haven't changed my food selection at all, actually. And I only drink one or one and a half Diet Cokes a day now, and since doing that and drinking water I haven't had one instance of heartburn or acid reflux or anything like them - it's been over six months.

From DR Laura:
"Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has turned on the 'fasten seat belt' sign. Please take your seats. This is for your safety and the safety of the person you will fall on."

I bet everyone was listening for a change ;)

I didn't like the administration but I wish him and his family well. I think the new administration has been very classy about everythng and the farewell was quite moving.

OH, I just remembered I set my DVR to get the entire inauguration. I think I'll go home and watch the entire speech while I have lunch. Laters....

makes me want to vomit on the ground.
Well, just keep in mind that if you DO, we will not be able to give you our highest recommendation. ;)

Just as soon as you finish your "Lorna." ;D

Sleep in peace when day is done
Thats what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world

Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel

Oh lordy, I'm really embarrassed. THANK YOU all so much for the lovely birthday wishes! I feel I was rudely absent from my own party. I work in the health care industry and November-December are open enrollment months, so I got very busy at work, but I promise I'll make an effort to be less "occassional" in the future.

I would like to ask for vibes and prayers for total strangers.
Yesterday on the flight home, I chatted with a young woman with a small infant. Her husband was being sent to Iraq on a later flight, and she was going to stay with her family while he was gone (at least that was what I gathered).
I am so sad that this young family is being separated. I told her that a small church in Arizona would be praying for her family, but I figured extra prayers certainly couldn't hurt anything.
So, if you are so inclined, please keep Tamara and baby Alyssa and Troy in your prayers. We'll never know how things turn out, but whatever higher power one prays to will know who we mean.
And, yes, I know that sentence was a grammatical disaster, and I don't care; it is from the heart.

Sometimes these classic songs need a trained singer with some breath control; I love Aretha, but I swear she sang "My coun (breath) try 'tis of thee." I thought we were heading into blue territory for a minute and what the hell would the FCC think?
I thought the same thing. I liked her "church hat" though!

The discussion begins as to whether Pres. Obama meant to invoke the Dorothy Fields/Jerome Kern song when he pretty much said "Pick Yourself Up, Dust Yourself Off"
http://www.shopfloor.org/2009/01/20/inauguration-09-invoking-astaire-and-rogers/
The coverage that I watched stated that this quote came from the film and I thought "Maybe bk would appreciate the speech after all!" :-)

I got a gold star at my annual physical today. I celebrated by having a tetanus immunization.
Congratulations to you, Laura! You really know how to party!

Does anyone know what was in that present that Michella Obama gave to Laura Bush?
-
Well, it's a beautiful, sunny afternoon here in Richmond, and I believe I'm going to spend a good chunk of it walking around the Fan and Carytown.
Laters...
-
Does anyone know what was in that present that Michella Obama gave to Laura Bush?
According to the latest reports: a leather-bound journal.
-
Does anyone know what was in that present that Michella Obama gave to Laura Bush?
I wonder if they put it on the helicopter?
-
When I need a soft meringue, I find it's generally best to flocculate with a whisk rather than a hand mixer!
-
CONGRATULATIONS to Laura DR!!!!! :D
-
Who would have thought Obama would be quoting Dorothy Fields' lyrics in his address? Now all we need is Kern's music!
If "Happy Days Are Here Again" worked for Roosevelt, who knows?

I think you could use a soft harang more! ;)

I wonder if they put it on the helicopter?
Was it ticking?

Or bunting?

I feel a song coming on:
Hi!
Hi!
We're your Leather Girls
And have we got news for you!
Or maybe not :)
-
TOD: Places I hung out when I was younger? I'm not sure I ever hung out anywhere.
-
How are you feeling today, DR Kerry?
-
I'm almost hesitant to admit that most of my hanging out was at Kings Plaza and at Kosher Country and (near my school) Jerusalem II pizza.
Does that peg me as a Yeshivah boy?
-
Those weren't late-night places, though.
-
Yesterday's TOD:
"From Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill"
Wonderful recording ought to be on CD!
-
We frequented the Dog N Suds, a root beer stand with fair food and great root beer. It looked a lot like this....it was torn down in the 80's and now there is a little strip mall there with a CURVES and a SUBWAY sandwich shop.
(http://www.fisher-assoc.net/photo/DOG-N-SUDS,%20WEST%20LAFAYETTE.JPG)
We had one of those here that was replaced by an MG auto dealer.
-
Does that peg me as a Yeshivah boy?
Many people don't know that after the first draft of Peg, the Yeshivah Boy, they decided to change the character's name to Yentl.
-
Bob's Big Boy was the cool place to hang out!
-
DR JRand58, 'Dogs & Suds' sounds/looks like fun. :D
Someone had to explain to me that it meant hot dogs and root beer, but it was cheap, and we could get stop there on the way to the park.
-

With a predicted high of 30 degrees, even some trained singers would have had breathing trouble.

Good Afternoon!
Well... I have no real need nor desire to watch them eat lunch, and the parade... well... Since there are no floats, is it really a parade? ;)
There aren't any clowns, either.
Well, there aren't supposed to be.
-
The past three weeks have been somewhat of a blur.
I feel a bit out-of-touch and have fallen way behind in everything.
Sigh.
I know what you mean Ron. Vibes to you!

I think it was marvelously bipartisan of him, since Dorothy was a Republican.
-
Sometimes a hat is just a hat.
Does anyone still wear a hat?
-
I turned on Obama's remarks at lunch and he's pretty much confirmed that it was Ted Kennedy who collapsed at lunch.
-
I didn't like the administration but I wish him and his family well. I think the new administration has been very classy about everythng and the farewell was quite moving.
Ditto.
-
TOD:
Uncle Charlie's Pub - served pizza, hoagies, beer, but family oriented. Ironically, that Uncle Charlie's was housed in the building which later became Sam Morgan's Clubhouse, where I worked for a decade, and is now Mulligan's where I put in service time on Saturday nights.
-
I should get going.
Even though it's my day off, I need to go to the store to discuss with manager a meeting I'm supposed to attend tomorrow, way off in Maryland. It's a meeting for all the billing clerks in the region.
It's so cool, how nobody even mentioned to our manager that the meeting was tomorrow until yesterday.
The problem is, since I'm not a driver, we're still figuring out how I'm supposed to get there.
These little arrangements are so much fun.
(I'll be getting some goodies for din-din while I'm at the store, so at least the trip will serve two purposes.)

Well, tell them to send in the clowns.

Sounds like Senator Kennedy had a major seizure and Senator Byrd had some sort of medical emergency as well. They are still trying to confirm this
-
How are you feeling today, DR Kerry?
-
Kerry, are you going to celebrate your birthday at the Super Bowl party with the rest of us?
-
I turned on Obama's remarks at lunch and he's pretty much confirmed that it was Ted Kennedy who collapsed at lunch.
Kennedy and Sen Robert Byrd were both taken away.
So weird because I watched Kennedy walk in on his own feet before the ceremony. He was hobnobbing and blowing kisses to various faces up around the podium--he looked fine and in great spirits.
-
Who is going to watch the "Historic inauguration"?
I watched it and recorded it...only on one channel, though.
-
I'm excited and I'm looking forward to what can be accomplished in the next 4 years.
-
Sometimes a hat is just a hat.
Well, since someone has to.... Does anyone still wear.... a hat?
-
In high school, a hamburger place in San Antonio called Jim's -- the best char-broiled burgers and some pretty good onion rings.
In Waco during my Baylor days, George's (for a mean chicken fried steak dinner and Big-O -- no, not that, you HHWers think everything is a euphemism -- a large, round frosty glass of beer). George's is still there and is still popular.

Does anyone know what was in that present that Michella Obama gave to Laura Bush?
I get most of my inaugural news here so this is the first I heard of it. Is it common practice for the incoming first wife to give the outgoing one a gift?
-
I think I'll skip the long jog today - don't want to push myself when I'm not feeling up to snuff. I've written five pages, and I think I'll take a hot shower now.
-
I'm sorry I missed DR Amy.
-
Does anyone know what was in that present that Michella Obama gave to Laura Bush?
According to the latest reports: a leather-bound journal.
Yep, that's what Katie was saying -- embossed and with some nice pen so she could enter her post-White House memories for her memoir (all the commentators were going on about it being real nice, etc.)
-
Good idea Bruce. You are learning ;)
-
Lots of stuff going on this morning. I'm in the process of trying to license three titles for Kritzerland, but they each have an advance and it looks like they may want all three advances up front, which will be very difficult, as I wouldn't be able to put out the first of the three until March at the earliest. I think they'll all sell out and be good for the label, but we'll just have to see how it all shakes out. It's one cast album, and two soundtracks, none of which have appeared on CD before.

GO STEELERS!

I'm sorry I missed DR Amy.
They come and they go. Brace yourself for a birthday return of Elan in the days ahead!

Also, the LACC doing Nudie is not looking as good as it was. As it stood, I was going to have to raise the dough to do it. But they can't do it the way they originally thought, so it's more like a rental, even though the department would keep the box-office take. The sets and costumes would still be, I think, relatively free, as they have a scene shop and materials and a huge costume department, but the designers would not be free - when we originally spoke about it it was all going to be part and parcel of the department - a class would be created and that's how the faculty designers would have been paid - apparently, with all the red tape and cut backs the class thing is no longer possible. They've tacked on a rental fee, and I just don't want to have to pay it. It doesn't seem right to me. It's not outrageous or anything, but it's going to make things much more difficult.
I'm discussing it with the LA Festival, just to get their thoughts and see if there are any other possible venues. They really would like the show, and I really want to do it, but reality is reality, I'm afraid.
-
Sounds like Senator Kennedy had a major seizure and Senator Byrd had some sort of medical emergency as well. They are still trying to confirm this
I hear Byrd is all right, but chose to leave when they took Kennedy out.
-
The snow is 90% gone now, but it still feels icy cold outside. Just walking to and from the restaurant at lunch was not pleasant.
-
Good idea Bruce. You are learning ;)
My sentiments exactly.
-
And thanks to DR FJL last night, I've been keeping an eye on my numbers and I now see that this is my "millstone" post.
So, here it is: #40,000.
-
While I was waiting for my ride to show up for lunch, I finished THE STARTER WIFE episode I had begun last night and then began the next one. Much as I love Hart Bochner, he is, alas, aging...just like the rest of us. :)
-
When I got back from lunch, I began my review work project of the day - the original FRIDAY THE 13th. The years have exaggerated in my mind the graphic gore content of the film. Yes, there are about eight murders, but you only see a couple happening with the blood effects. Most are either off-camera (and revealed later) or only the aftermath image for a few seconds only.
I guess it's the later ones in which the slashings become more or more graphic and in close-up. Of course, I think they had slightly larger budgets than this first one (which was made for $600,000).
-
Prayers for Tamara and baby Alyssa and Troy.
Here are my vibes!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I just watched the clip of Aretha Franklin. I was expecting an outrageous hat. I couldn't wear it but I thought it looked nice on her, & it matched her coat & gloves.
-
I went back and listened to the commentary. Critic Peter Bracke hosts the commentary which is pieced together from comments made by the director, writer, editor, composer, etc. Very informative and nice to know they don't have any pretentions about what they were doing. A cheap thriller made to exploit the huge returns being pulled in by HALLOWEEN.
-
I've watched two of the bonus documentaries. One was made at a FRIDAY THE 13th convention with Betsy Palmer, Adreienne King, Tom Savini, Victor Miller, and others taking part in a Q&A. The next were more comments by many of these same people about memories of making the picture.
-
There are still about three more bonus features on the disc. I should be able to finish those easily later this evening, especially since there's nothing on I want to see tonight apart from LEVERAGE.
-
Also, the LACC doing Nudie is not looking as good as it was. As it stood, I was going to have to raise the dough to do it. But they can't do it the way they originally thought, so it's more like a rental, even though the department would keep the box-office take. It would mainly be tha dancing dildoes you'd have to create; wouldn't it?
-
Congrats to DR Matt on 40,000 plus posts and a lofty new plateau!
Congrats to Matt on having reached #40,000!
Congrats to Matt on having reached #40,000!
DR Laura ~ How 'bout them Cards?!! Go Red Birds!!!!!! Yea-ahhhh!!!
I'm pulling for the Cards even though they defeated the Eagles.
Aww, thanks, Dan (the Man). Knowing you are an Eagles fan, I was being low-key about it here.
-
Thanks for the acknowledgements on the "achievement" though I'm not sure it's about anything except I have too much time on my hands! :D
-
I'm going to hop off-line now and get some writing done on what I've watched today. Then, I'll head back down to complete the review project and then go on to more enjoyable items.
WBBL.
-
Yes, the Dancing Dildo costumes would have to be built and designed. I'm assuming they'd have a lot of the other stuff. The real problem here is that I was led to believe this was not going to be a problem and the original way in which we were going to do it was very workable. That all changed a couple of weeks ago, mostly because of the LA Community College budget cuts. But I feel strongly that I'm not the only one who benefits from doing it there - the department benefits, too. My fear is, that it's now going to be too late to "place" our show in another venue.
-
Wow--this sure is a long parade!
The good news--they released a statement that Sen Kennedy's brain seizure was due to fatigue. I havent heard anything about Byrd.
I was wondering if they were the only ones who ate fish at the luncheon.
-
Big congrats to MattH on achieving his new plateau. I've written a little over six pages and will probably do at least one more at some point. I'm hoping I can put on a movie I don't care about and fall asleep.
-
I would like to ask for vibes and prayers for total strangers.
Yesterday on the flight home, I chatted with a young woman with a small infant. Her husband was being sent to Iraq on a later flight, and she was going to stay with her family while he was gone (at least that was what I gathered).
I am so sad that this young family is being separated. I told her that a small church in Arizona would be praying for her family, but I figured extra prayers certainly couldn't hurt anything.
So, if you are so inclined, please keep Tamara and baby Alyssa and Troy in your prayers. We'll never know how things turn out, but whatever higher power one prays to will know who we mean.
And, yes, I know that sentence was a grammatical disaster, and I don't care; it is from the heart.
~~~Super Vibes, Marimbas and Xylophones for Tamara and baby Alyssa and Troy!!~~~

CONGRATULATIONS to poster extraordinaire DR Matt H.!!

I figure someone has to say something! It has been very quiet here.
That is all I have to say.
-
Quiet indeed. TOO damn quiet. Let's make some NOISE.
-
I got two packages, neither of them the ones I've been waiting on.
-
Topic of the Day: I never really hung out anywhere with my friends. We'd go to each other's houses or go to a place for one reason or another, but then we'd all just go home. :-\
I did not have an exciting time growing up. ;)
-
Tonight, for dinner, I prepared "chicken failure.'

;D

Tonight, for dinner, I prepared "chicken failure.'
Is that the one that comes in a box? or is it found in the freezer section?
-
Good Evening!
Well... In the spirit of today's Inaugural Festivities on The National Mall, I decided to take a nice walk up and down Carytown. And, yes, it was/is cold(!!!!!) here in Richmond too.
*It was cold enough to "drain" my camera's battery any time I happened to have it out in the open air for more than a minute. And my fingers were feeling the chill too. But I think I got some good pics, so that's all that matters. ;)
-

So, Jose...are there no inaugural balls in your immediate future?
-
For those who shop at CostCo...are you familiar with Harris Ranch meat products (fully cooked and ready to heat and serve)?
I've had the Harris Ranch pot roast....and it was WHOLLY SCRUMPTIOUS...and well worth the price given that the meat was nearly 100% lean and cooked to perfection.
-
I just had an hour's Finale lesson. Oy! As Lenya says in CABARET, my head is shpinning.
Yep, Finale will make your head "shpin". Just remember to treat it more as a "graphic layout" program, rather than a "music" program. It's all quite logical... sometimes too logical. However, at least you have the advantage of knowing things like: proper score order, where to put page breaks, instrument ranges and transpositions. -That will make make things go much faster once you navigate the initial learning curve.
-
I'm listening to a two CD Joni Mitchell set where she does new versions of old songs she's done before - these are all orchestrated by the marvelously marvelous Vince Mendoza. Beautiful work.

Nope. No balls.
It turned out that I, too, had selected a "Lemongrass" colored gown, and I didn't want people to think I was copying Michelle Obama.
-
DR MattH - Here's to your next 40,000!!!
-
I feel WEIRD. Not terrible, and throat is feeling a bit better - just logey from loss of sleep, I'd guess.
-
Why do people on castrecl insist on saying in accusatory fashion "I'm surprised no one here has mentioned that, etc. etc" - so why didn't the yutz who's saying that just mention it earlier instead of expressing indignation that no one mentioned "etc, etc" earlier.
-
Tonight, for dinner, I prepared "chicken failure.'
Is that the one that comes in a box? or is it found in the freezer section?
You are so warped. LOL Mwah! :-*
-
Chicken failure might be kind of interesting. Laura, you'll have to whip up another batch sometime.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
As a kid: Friday and/or Saturday nights were usually spent over at the house of my cousins, Ron and Alex. The fathers would play pool or poker downstairs, the mothers would play mahjongg upstairs, and the kids would watch TV and/or run around the neighborhood. Most of these soireés would last until the wee hours of the morning. There were more than a few times when Saturday evening would become Sunday morning, and my parents would just go ahead and take us all to the 9:30am Mass on the way home. ;)
As a teenager: The weekend family get-togethers did continue into my teens, but if I did end up going out with my classmates, we'd usually end up at Pizza Hut. However, once I started getting involved with community theater productions, a lot of my weekends were spent either at cast parties or at a great little café off of Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria. -I can't remember the name right now, but I sure do remember those onion rings!
In college: It was not unusual for me to be in a practice room late at night. I loved practicing in the wee hours of the morning - something about the general stillness in the air helped to make my practicing more constructive and fruitful. Otherwise, I can't seem to recall a regular late night hang-out, but I know I did.
*Present Day: New York City.
-
Tuesday night....Katharine Hepburn on TCM......I may watch some Australian horror films instead.
-
We frequented the Dog N Suds, a root beer stand with fair food and great root beer. It looked a lot like this....it was torn down in the 80's and now there is a little strip mall there with a CURVES and a SUBWAY sandwich shop.
I wonder if "Dog N Suds" was the sister store to "Tails 'N' Tunes" in Farmville, VA? -TNT sold pet supplies and sheet music.

Hmm... Hart Bochner... "Apartment Zero".... Hart Bochner... :)
-
I just reworked some of what I wrote earlier. Better now. Still might write another page later, but I did a little over six pages today, so I'm jiggy with that. I have no idea what to watch tonight. I'm quite logey and not motivated, movie-wise.
-
Today I actually set foot in the library & picked up a new card.:) I also checked out two books & used the self-check out to do so.
When we first moved here Echo was permitted in the library & I went more often. Once they changed the dog ruling I barely went, plus the old building was musty & bothered my allergies. A number of years ago a new addition was added to our old Carnegie Library. I had only been in the building once since then, just to peak at it.
We have a drive up book drop off which is convenient. If we had a drive through pick-up I'm sure I would have continued to use the library & my original card would not have expired from lack of use.
-
DR Jane - While you were at the library, did you happen to run into an optometrist named Paul?
;)

;)

And they also have a music box with "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off" - Pres. Obama
-
Well, it's time for me to leave. I have several shows to watch on TV tonight ("Fringe" is the only one that I can remember at the moment, other than the inauguration specials). I might scan through the inauguration stuff from this morning to see what's interesting. :)
Until later!
-
'night
-
Oh...
From the lack of people in the restaurants in Carytown, I'm guessing both the cold and Inauguration coverage was keeping people at home. It really was strangely empty in some places.

I did make a stop into one of my favorite stores, "For the Love Chocolate". As the following pictures demonstrate, they carry much more than chocolate.

Speaking of CastRecl, what planet is Mr Camner from not to hear Aretha's dividing "country" into two words by taking a breath between syllables?
I really loved the Yo Yo Ma et al performance which I thought was quite beautiful.
-
Aretha, what is it, you c -
oops, almost forgot, a family site

I really loved the Yo Yo Ma et al performance which I thought was quite beautiful.
It's been interesting reading some of the reactions to John Williams' piece/arrangement. Some people really loved it, and some people were truly underwhelmed by it. ??? ??? ???
*I'm also trying to get some sort of confirmation whether or not Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Anthony McGill and Gabriela Montero were "playing to tape" during the broadcast in order to insure proper balances and transmission. Either way, I really liked it.

I didn't mind it, but I so like the song and felt the simplicity of the Shaker tune, which is one of the things I like best about it, was lost in the arrangement. my 2 cents.

I wonder if there have been any significant events in North America during my absence. I hope everyone has behaved.
-
I was very happy to see Gabriela Montero up on that stage. She's made a name for herself playing "classical improvisations". Her technique, inventiveness and humor is astounding. -And her playing of the standard repertoire is quite impressive too. She even takes requests (http://www.gabrielamontero.com/)!

Tuesday night....Katharine Hepburn on TCM......I may watch some Australian horror films instead.
I hate to think what!
"Wolf Creek" is quite possibly the only Australian horror film worthy of the genre.
Of course any film with Ms Kidman might well be regarded as horror. (but of course she was born in Hawaii)
-
Hmm...
I wonder if former President Bush used THIS COMPANY (http://www.jonesbigasstruckrentalandstorage.com/) for their move earlier today?
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
and now back to my book.
-
I had a full evening of entertaining viewing.
The first part wasn't so entertaining, though. I finished the bonus features on the FRIDAY THE 13th set, and among the ones I hadn't watched was one sick little short titled "Lost Tales from Camp Blood" which was simply an excuse for a maniac to carve up a couple in the middle of the night. I truly do not understand the need for such an inclusion.
The little 7 minute film looks like it cost about $1.98 with cardboard sets and awful slasher effects. Why, Paramount, why?

No nothing much happened here in the States. It was a very quiet day. ;)
-
Once I had finished with it, I pulled EAGLE EYE off the shelf and enjoyed it all over again. The time just flew by.
-
Because I had enjoyed MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION so much last week, I pulled down ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS and watched it again. I hadn't watched it since I first got it a couple of years ago, and it was nice to see it again. It's a nice transfer, but MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION is a better transfer.
I had it in my mind that Agnes Moorehead played the gossipy, bitchy friend in this, but she doesn't at all.
-
Next, I finished THE STARTER WIFE episode I had gotten about 3/4 of the way through before lunch early this afternoon. There really wasn't that much left to watch of it.
-
And I concluded my evening of viewing with the BURN NOTICE episode recorded off Universal-HD (the only way I get to see these in high definition) that featured Lucy Lawless as the hitwoman.
-
Looks like THE INVADERS will get postponed yet another day. The Blu-ray of ANY GIVEN SUNDAY arrived today, and it comes out next Tuesday as well, so I'm going to go ahead and work on it tomorrow.
-

I spent two hours visiting at the jail tonight and worked the rest of the day...anyone else :)

Well, I did have a cup of ice cream:

Crème Brulée Gelato from Bev's Ice Cream - Hot name, cold treat. All YUM!

Next time, DR Kerry.
Surprisingly, I didn't buy anything there today, I just took pictures. It really is a wonderful store, and the four pictures I posted are truly just a fraction of their inventory. They also have their own in-house line of specialty chocolates, and do a pretty good business in custom chocolates (business promotions, weddings, etc.) The owner/manager, James, happened to be in tonight, and it was great seeing him again too.

Have some computer maintenance to do and then I'm off to bed.
Good night!
-
I connected my up-converting dvd player to Mum's 52' hdtv and plugged in MAMMA MIA! All I can say is "WOW!"
I'm sure that the wonderful poster - over 40,000 posts - will have some other suggestions for me to dazzle my eyes. . .

Awww...
I just heard about this:
Mill Mountain Theater Closing (http://www.wsls.com/sls/news/local/article/mill_mountain_theater_closing_to_reorganize_layoffs_begin_wednesday/25423/)
:-\
If I'm remembering correctly, this is where DR Ben's ever-lovin Ant was in Beauty and The Beast.
-
I gotta tell you.

Just watched an episode of Mannix - fun. James Olson, the ubiquitous Susan Oliver, Paul Winfield, and even Timothy Carey.

I had a wonderful surprise from my partner Peter when I got home. (He took his family to Washington...they drove down and back in one day!)

And I've just come back from SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, so let's just say I am quite emotionally drained!
-
DR edisaurus - The drove up and back in the same day?!?!??! WOW! -I still remember driving down to Hot-lanta from Richmond a couple of times when I was in college, and I don't think I could have done that round trip in a day.
*And what color was your mouse's tail? :)
-

But isn't it a good drain?

They drove down from NY and back in the same day, with 2 teenage girls, too!

How rude!
I was going for a DR dB kind of vibe!

Oh, a good drain, indeed. I loved it! I hope the editing wins an Oscar!
And the card in the chocolates had the famous quote from Vanzetti: "We see with the eyes of our souls how the sky is diffused with the rays of the new millenium."
(Weep...)

They drove down from NY and back in the same day, with 2 teenage girls, too!
OK - THEY win!
-
-Although, I did do the drive from Richmond, VA, to Nappannee, IN, in one fell swoop. -Just a one-way trip, but a looooong one-way trip. Oh, and I did drive from Ft. Myers, FL, to Richmond, VA, in one drive. Oh, and Richmond, VA, to Evansville, IN... Hmm... Time to check the mileage. ;)
-

To their credit, the girls didn't mind walking 4 miles in the cold for this. The older of the two is the one whose Bat Mitzvah we went to a year ago and she kept me posted on things via hte Facebook app she downloaded to her iphone.
I knew we should've had kids...
-
I drove from Atlanta to Maryland, then the next day to NY, picked up my little French boy and drove to Canada. We drove to Montreal, Quebec City, around the coast of Nova Scotia, back down through Maine to D.C and back to Atlanta in a week...(might have been 9 days) 5,000 miles. I had bought tires before I left and by the tire I came back it was time to rotate them again!
That last drive, from D.C. to Atlanta at night was a toughie!
-
Well, time to rest up for my last day down here in Richmond...
Goodnight.

Has anyone here jumped on the "Jeb Bush for President in 2012" bandwagon yet?
I suspect a Republican candidate for 2012 would be a sacrificial lamb. Obama already has a steady start and there is little reason to suspect his re-election in 2102 will be in jeopardy. The Republican party will be concentrating its efforts on regaining congressional seats.
