In my DVD burner are several DVDs that I burned from old VHS tapes of mine:
Camelot with Gabriel Byrne and Marin Mazzie...this isn't from an old VHS, but the PBS broadcast from last year. Otherwise, the rest are from VHS tapes of mine that I rediscovered last weekend:
Play On! with the songs of Duke Ellington. This production was filmed for PBS in 1999 at the Pasadena Playhouse. The original Broadway cast recording was recorded by BK! Tonya Pinkins was in the original Broadway cast.
Speaking of Tonya Pinkins, next will be Jammin': Jelly Roll Morton on Broadway, with Tonya and the late Gregory Hines. This is the 1992 one hour PBS special (notice a trend here??) about the musical and the recording of the cast album to Jelly's Last Jam!
After that will be the PBS showing of Black and Blue from 1993. This is the original Broadway production that was filmed by Robert Altman. It has shots of backstage in between the numbers. It's quite good.
Then..."Evening at Pops" with Bonnie Raitt & John Raitt and fiddler Mark O'Connor from 1992. Again, from PBS!
And finally (and NOT from PBS!), my DVD burned from my purchased VHS tape of I Do! I Do! with Lee Remick and Hal Linden. It's from 1982 and it still looks great!
That's what I have been and will be watching. ;D

TOD:
The latest box of recipedial goodness from Jessica's Biscuit (a.k.a. ecookbooks.com (http://www.ecookbooks.com/)) has arrived. The trove includes a bunch of bargain basement bonbons (a couple of Jane and Michael Sterns, a Wolfgang Puck, something on Italian-American cooking (as distinct from just plain Italian which is now subdivided into Northern Italian and Southern Italian if not further divided by the major township the region is centered around wheras Italian-American tends to be very similar no matter where you go in this country), and a freebie about cooking internationally right in your own neighborhood)...
...and the new book of lists by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenberg, The Flavor Bible. This one builds on their earlier Culinary Artistry, essentially being lists of ingredients that pair well together, which sounds on the surface like a total waste of paper and binding. Ah, but when you're getting creative in the kitchen, having such a book to nudge an inspiration or two can be quite helpful. The sidebar commentary from top chefs is interesting, too.
-
Continued TOD:
So, while we were returning home from the store, I mentioned to der B that Julie Taymor is teaming with those guys from U2 who've traded in their real names for the monikers Bono and The Edge, in a return to Broadway. So what's the project? Spiderman, the Musical. (Be afraid, be very afraid.) So der B got to wondering if there were any other musicals based on superhero comic books. "It's a Bird, It's a Plane..." I started.
"No, really, are there any..."
"No, really, there was a show called It's a Bird, It's a Plane, it's Superman," I finished. To prove it (don't I always do this?) when we got home I fished out our copy of Jason Graae Sings Charles Strouse: You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile, and skipped ahead to the fourth track: "You've Got Possibilities," probably the best song from the score.
And then the next day I took the disc in with me to work.
There's a lot of good stuff on that disc. There's a couple of misses (I've never cared for the pairing of "Maybe" and "One Last Kiss," they mesh melodically but the lyrics have nothing to do with one another, sorry), but by and large I really enjoy it.
So, I'm suddenly finding myself on a Jason Graae kick. Not his entire oeuvre (trying to carry all those discs with me to work would throw out my back... what did he do, BK, have a cot set up in the studio so you would have to include him on every recording you made?), just some of the major ones. Like the Cinegrill disc. And probably Forbidden Hollywood. Der B and I saw him do both shows, it's only fitting.
QUESTION FOR OUR ESTEEMED BK!
What do you hear from Mr. Graae of late? Are you still in touch? Has he found better sleeping arrangements? (Those recording studios can get awfully drafty, I hear.)
Just curious.

Friday is a work day. Oh well.
-
Lovely photos from DR CILLA LIZ......she is looking very good!
-
CD - Judy Garland's Last Concert - I guess Mickey Deans took a tape recorder to some show she did in England....it's not so great technically, but it is interesting.
DVD - Pineapple Express and Richard III (Ian McKellan version)
-
Shocking news from DR MBARNUM......but at least the job is still there.
-
I am not enjoying the Christian/Liz storyline on NIP/TUCK - but it was interesting to see Mr Richard Burgi last week.
-
Thanks DR DAW and DR JRand, we had a very good meal at Nola last night including that pie I posted last night. I am still full but we are about to go look for breakfast.

After reading MOCKINGBIRD, my sister wrote to Harper Lee and received a letter back!! And I thought getting her Mary Badham's autograph was a big deal

-
Friday morning greetings! Richard and I went to Miami University last night to hear Bruce Chadwick talk about George and Martha Washington.

Time to get going. It's not that easy to post photos with this little computer. I'll post more when I get home. The Rebirth tour was extremely interesting. They still need so much help here. Our guide told us that until Brad Pitt started his project, very very few homes had been rebuilt in the Lower 9th Ward, now thing are slowly coming back.
I love the design of Brad Pitt's houses and Harry Connick Jr's musician's houses (now they are building for nonmusicians, too) are colorful, bright and inviting. Brad's organization has the funding for 150 houses lined up, but only have I'd say 5-10 completed. His homes are built on the owners property and they are 75,000 with a no interest mortgage. They are totally green. I'll post some photos later.
Harry Connick Jr and Habitat for Humanity have more houses done. Can't remember the numbers on that, but it's a neighborhood full of musicians homes and they also looks great. But these two projects are just a drop in the bucket. There are still blocks and blocks of empty and damaged homes and empty lots where you just see the front steps and a slab.
As I said yesterday, I have a new respect for Brad Pitt and Harry Connick Jr
It was also good to see two tables full of Americorp kids at breakfast yesterday.
-
The news from DR Danise is very distressing.
-
Mikey I am sorry to hear about your 4 day work week, still it is better than the 3 days that you feared or layoffs.
Hopefully you can make some small economies at home that won't hurt too badly to tide you over this rough patch.
I know we have cut out all eating out and fast food stuff and Vixdad and the Vixter are bringing bagged lunches everyday which has all helped us saving money with me out of work.
Also we have stopped all unnessacary spending - no new CD's, books, DVDs, ebay etc etc
Of course it helps that I am not eating any food at all or using any gas. I was cut back to 4 days before I had to stop working so we will keep the economies going when I get back to the office again (whenever that may be)
-
I agree DR Ginny. I hope she is consulting a lawyer or someone who can help her and I hope she can find a place she can stay with Sheena.
-
Opening night went well. I haven't heard directly from Anthony yet. There was a party last night and he didn't get home until late so I had an e-mail this morning. He created some elaborate opening night gifts. They were small watering cans filled with various things related to The Fantasticks. He wanted to get kumquats but none of the stores in the Fort Atkinson area had any. One of his friends asked the produce manager at one of the stores if he could get some but no luck. Even without the kumquats the gifts and cards were a hit. He loved my flowers and my card. He had a spate of Midwestern winter weather though. There was an ice storm and he had to use the de-icer to open the door to the car and he spent lots of time scraping ice off the windshield.

The Vixter and her youth group will be in New Orleans this July. Theyare going to be part of the National Gathering of high school aged Lutheran youth, all of whom are going to take part in the rebuilding efforts.
Last summer another group from our church went down with a couple of other local churches and they help build two houses while they were there.

Ok time to shower and let Pam use the computer....

You look MAAAAHVALOUS in that picture! Enjoy yourself in New Orleans. My only visit there was a day visit for several hours one day back when I was visiting a friend who lived in Gulfport, Missississipi. The Vixter was not quite a year old at the time. I have always wanted to go back there again.
I look forward to your pictures!

I will be listening to a BBC1 recording of Stephen Sondheim stint as visiting professor at Oxford University. There are 11 songs and several cuts songs. The singers including performers from the first UK production of Sunday In the Park with George. Singers include: Philip Quast, Maria Friedman, Nicolas Colicos, Megan Kelly and two others whose names I could not quite get.

I do remember the JELLY'S LAST JAM special. I also remember being disappointed that the show never did do the live Pay Per View for Cable that was planned.
I'm about to get to work on converting all my VHS theatre-based tapes to DVD. First project will be the PBS broadcast of A.R. Gurney's THE DINING ROOM.

DR Ben - good opening night news from Anthony. It's looking like we won't be going to WI during the run, after all.
-
Thank you all for the vibes. It is gonna hurt, but I will survive...as Gloria said.
I am planning a very economic LA visit this time around. Not much shopping, just spending time with friends and maybe meeting Mamie Van Doren. ;D
-
The parent teacher conferneces went very well last night. It seems that not too many parents bothered to sign up (what's all that about!) so we were able to spend some time talking to each teacher. They all had wonderful things to say about the Vixter so that was great to hear.
It was also just nice to be out of the house and not at a doctor's office!!

Bragging Time: her drama teacher told us that she is the only 10th grader in the college credit course she is taking. All the other kids are juinors and seniors. (mostly seniors) and she is "running circles around them"
She has been selected to be part of a Shakespeare Festival that will be held April 30 or May 1 (she wasn't sure of the date) at the Actor's Temple in NYC. The teacher hasn't yet selected the part the Vixter will be performing.

SPOILER in this PARODY OF THE CURRENT REVIVAL OF "OUR TOWN" - looking for a new food image to write about
The big hoopla according to the folks on ATC about the new OUR TOWN is a coup de theatre (actually revealed in some of the reviews) in the third act where they actually cook real bacon live on stage and the smell permeates the theater in a very delish way.
So here from ON OUR TOWN (to the tune of NEW YORK, NEW YORK, A HELLUVA TOWN)
It's pork, it's pork
A helluva coup
The bacon fries and the people go "ooh"
The most acclaim since the concert by Stew
It's pork, you dork -
A theatrical coup
The way it goes is
This feller David Cromer
Caught lightning in a cup
The critics' noses
Are noting the aromer
And now their thumbs are up
Yeah it's makin' 'em hot
'Cause the bacon is what
Rates a yup.
Now let's go sup
It's pork, it's pork
It's makin' 'em kvell
Just think of all the concessions they'll sell
They're held in thrall by that helluva smell
It's pork, it's pork
It's a helluva smell!

Good morning, all! More weird dreams: college, finding a college apartment in which my brother Randy was curiously visiting, not as he looked in 1968 but as he looks now, and other peculiar situations.
I've been thinking about DR Danise's situation. Doesn't she work for the state of Florida? Surely someone in her dept knows smeone in another dept. who knows someone in another till the situationreaches the correct person. Since I have no idea what's happening - whether he's taking his time to bilk her out of more funds or he's left the place a wreck - I can't help but think there are people she knows who may be able to provide help.
Today, more work at my desk after I clean up the dump for our DR Ben's visit.
TOD:
DVD: She Stoops to Conquer, those blasted Netflix items
CD: Sutton Foster's new disc, Offenbach, Liz Callaway, Guy Haines, Chad Mitchell Trio

Hi everyone. I'm here in the esteemed bk's So. Cal - Anaheim to be exact - attending the Religious Education Congress (http://recongress.org) which I'm very excited about as I missed last year. I'm hoping to be inspired. I'm staying at the Desert Palm Inn and Suites. It's a nice place but not nicely laid out. I feel like a mouse looking for cheese have the time. But, the location is good and I'm not paying for it, so I'm not complaining. More later, everyone have a great day!

DR George, you're a glutton for punishment for burning that hideous CAMELOT to a DVD. Absolutely the worst I've ever seen Marin Mazzie, and almost every other casting and directing choice in the production was just so terrible. That is one production I NEVER want to see again.

DR Jane, thanks for the news about DR Danise. That is terrible. Are we sure the guy is a creep? Is
there any chance that he just got in over his head?
i know we were all worried about something like this happening. But he did offer a lot of help in the beginning. Is the house at all done? How much of the work did you do? And has he just left it unfinished?
Please let DR Danise know we are all thinking about her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I needed to finish that 82-minute documentary on the SOUTH PARK set this morning (I still had about 40 minutes to go). Once I finished it, I watched another episode on Peruvian Flute Players that ridiculed the movies QUARANTINE and CLOVERFIELD. It was a two-part episode, but I only watched part one this morning.
This afternoon, I'll watch part two of that story and then watch the remaining three episodes in the set. There is also one more bonus feature on the set. I have no idea how long it is.
-
Unless some new review material comes in today, I'll spend the weekend with that four movie Criterion set. I'll watch two movies a day in it so I can finish it up by Sunday night. It's one of their Eclipse releases so there are no bonus features. The movies are all short, so watching two a day should be no problem. I want to get it out of the way before that four film BATMAN set on Blu-ray arrives.
-
re: the joaquin phoenix thing
I remember hearing when it happened that perhaps he was just playing a joke on david letterman. Has it been confirmed that how he acted on the show was real and not a gag?
-
This afternoon, I'll watch part two of that story and then watch the remaining three episodes in the set.
Then what are you doing wasting your time back on Season 3?? ;D

TOD:
DVD:
A documentary (from Netflix) on the history if film in Iran. It is quite fascinating to see what Iran's cinema was like in the 50s and 60s...lots of fluffy Doris Day type comedies and plenty of action and exploitation movies.
And it is quite a contrast to see Iranian women in min-skirts and bouffant hair and then comparing that to 30 years later when they are all dressed in those not so attractive black robes and head coverings.
DVR:
Life on Mars, Survivor, The Office (if it was on this week)
CD:
Several vintage Bollywood soundtracks.
-
JR, you need to get the Ian McKellen version of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS--most outre. ;)
I have a huge stack of Naxos/Opus Arte BD's I need to review, most of which I think Elmore would probably love. I did get through a fascinating piece yesterday called AMELIA, a dance work by the La La La Human Steps (that may be one too many La's, LOL). Incredibly interesting stuff, with a sort of neo-minimalist score set to lyrics by Lou Reed (I kid you not). I now have a ton of operas to get through. Am I highly cultured or what? Just sing STRING OF PEARLS when you're around me.

For a variety of reasons, I'm blaming Jose: Betsy just called and has completely lost all of her keys. She thinks she left them on the bus. This is not good news.
Well...
I hope she finds them. Has she called the bus company yet?

TOD:
I believe THE OFFICE was a rerun this week.

I'm heading downstairs now to get cleaned up for running errands in a bit.

Yes, they've dispatched the driver but he hasn't responded. She rides the same bus every morning and he's due back at her stop around 8:30 so if she hasn't heard from Tri-Met by then, she's going to go down and hop on again and look. Luckily there's no ID, but there are an awful lot of keys, including the "computer" keys for both cars.

QUESTION FOR OUR ESTEEMED BK!
What do you hear from Mr. Graae of late? Are you still in touch? Has he found better sleeping arrangements? (Those recording studios can get awfully drafty, I hear.)
Just curious.
Well... You could check out:
JasonGraae.com (http://www.jasongraae.com/)
And I believe bk has mentioned running into Mr. Graae every now and then whenever he's happened to be in NYC. I even think that DRs Laura, Michael S and ArnoldMBrockman have seen him in concert over the past year. I do remember seeing him at The York last year in an evening of music by Larry Grossman.
-
DR TCB - I love Streisand, but early Streisand. Now she's mostly just self-indulgent.
I love her, too...right up to her first Broadway album.
-
DR vixmom - It sounds like you had a wonderful evening outside of the house. :)
-
DR the vixter - YOU GO GIRL!!!!! :)
-
DR Ben - Glad to hear the Ant had a wonderful opening night.
-
DR FJL - Is that kosher?
;D
-
OK... Time to run out and about for a bit.
Laters...

Betsy has been reunited with her keys. Whew.

I'm so glad, DR JMK. I know from personal experience that those car remotes are VERY expensive to replace. :P
-
And I believe bk has mentioned running into Mr. Graae every now and then whenever he's happened to be in NYC.
It was my impression that Mr. Graae lives near Los Angeles now.

Hello, everyone.
Great news on the lost-but-now-found keys!
Lovely feedback for Vixmom on the Vixter. But was there ever any doubt?? ;)
-
Betsy didn't happen to see DR JoseSPiano's keys while she was searching, did she?
-
DR Jeanne, hope you are continuing to feel better and better. :)
-
I'm so glad, DR JMK. I know from personal experience that those car remotes are VERY expensive to replace. :P
I know--the one for our 2002 Axiom fell apart on me about a year ago and I called to get a new one and they said $160. I laughed quietly to myself, got a piece of tape, taped the old one back together and it's still going strong. I can only imagine what the brand new one for the Chevy would have gone for.
-
Great news about Betsy's keys.
-
I do feel that there's someone somewhere who can help Danise. Yes, these things are commonplace, but that doesn't mean there are no remedies.
I've had problems with MANY contractors. I find that most will succumb to pressure. Few people look forward to going to court. Unfortunately, many of us feel uncomfortable standing up for ourselves, but that's exactly what you have to do.

Michael S, your mother was very lucky she could cut her losses & move on. Having lived in 9 homes we too have had our share of charming & useless contractors. We almost hired one here, thankfully we went with someone else.
-
thank you, Sing.

I think that DR Jane has been quite lucky to have found so many charming contractors. ;)
-
Jose - Are you giving me ideas for extra sections of the number again? :)
-
DR MBarnum, 20%-ouch. At least your time at work is decreased with the salary. Just think of all the extra long walks you and Bosco can take.
Any chance of staying with a friend in L. A. instead of a hotel?

Oh my Cilla those Beignets look good! You look good too
I’m enjoying your verbal tour of New Orleans.

That's the title of the next installment of my autobiography... CHARMING & USELESS. :)

Too much bragging?

Abut our Vixter, never! :)
After reading the initial set-up of the conferences I wonder if parents figured they would be a waste of time. I'm glad they were fun & did not exhaust you.

I will let her know. I really don't know the answers to most of your questions. I agree, it did really seem like a good guy in the beginning. All I know is whatever his motives he hasn't come through for her & she can't go home.

re: the joaquin phoenix thing
I remember hearing when it happened that perhaps he was just playing a joke on david letterman. Has it been confirmed that how he acted on the show was real and not a gag?
As far as I know nothing has been confirmed it is a joke. He is so bad & untalented & his brother-in-law is following him around documenting it all so people are guessing/hoping it is a joke. After watching the clip, I very much hope it is a joke. And I hope his family knows so. I can't imagine how I would feel watching my son, brother, anyone I cared about, if this is real.

Bad? Untalented?
Joaquin Phoenix is one of the finest actors of his generation. When he's on screen you cannot NOT watch him. I think he's a brilliant actor.
-
In high school Craig went to (I forget where in the south) for a school project. The kids converted part of a church into a shelter. It was a great experience & he had fun too. I’m sure the Vixter will have a fantastic trip with the church group.

Yes, he should stick to acting. I'm referring to his new career.

And I believe bk has mentioned running into Mr. Graae every now and then whenever he's happened to be in NYC.

He does indeed. He was just back here doing a reading of something. EINSTEIN'S DREAM, perhaps, at Symphony space?

I'm up, and must shortly be on my way to do the early errand, which shouldn't take too long, then I'll try to do the long jog, then Mr. Spirtas will be here, then I'll send out the final two packages, then I'll start writing liner notes, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my "me" time seems to have evaporated - not only for today, but now tomorrow I have to be in the editing room for two hours.

I briefly spoke to Danise. At least she has a roof & the windows are in, nothing else though.
HOUSE VIBES FOR DR DANISE & DD SHEENA!!!
-
In my DVD burner are several DVDs that I burned from old VHS tapes of mine:
That's what I have been and will be watching. ;D
PLAY ON was broadcast on PBS? Odd, but I don't remember it at all. I'll have to check my VHS collection.
I need to do that with my collection, too. But where to find the time? No way!
LOL--you got that right, DR Matt. By the time I finish, Blu-Ray will probably be an obsolete format.

I think in most cases, someone else has brought the plight of someone worthy to the show's attention. Same with Home Makeover: Extreme Edition. The latter show would be a good fit if they could "downsize" their aspirations to make each new episode about bigger homes. Danise is as worthy as anyone. Her "situation" ought to be made known to both shows. Perhaps one of them will help out.

Well this was just deeply disappointing. My dad drove me to the therapist- we got there 15 minutes early.
Signed in did all the new patient registration stuff and then sat in the waiting until 12 noon - for my 11 o'clock appointment.
I finally went up to the desk and said. "We have been waiting for an hour do you know how much longer it'll be?"
OOPS! The therapist forgot about me and went to lunch!
"Can you come back on Monday?"
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Not a very promising start I must say.

It's simple -- Damon is the blonde one...the one who actually HAS acting talent.
Affleck is the dark-haired one with the hairpiece -- the one who is better "behind" the camera, more often than not.
-
I'm having trouble finding the funny there - although it is a minor annoyance compared to what Danise is going through.
The "funny" is apparent to me: You now have something to greet this therapist with when you finally meet face-to-face.
As for "degree of annoyance" -- sorry, but health is EVERYthing and is ALL-important.

Wished that had worked for me! The contractor just laughed and the lawyer earned his fee by saying 'Tough Luck". When you're toward the end of a chain where a contractor has been using the proceeds from new work to complete older unfinished work you're SOL. And the lawyer even remarked that when we paid an outstanding sub-contractor debt, the contractor still got credit. My son-in-law just finished up the work, called the inspectors, obtained an occupancy permit and we moved in! Never heard from the contractor again, and a few of the subs got stiffed, big time.

Seriously, do they even make pumpernickel bread anymore? And who came up with the name pumpernickel in the first or even the second place? I now want some pumpernickel bread, even though I haven’t thought about pumpernickel bread in, oh, about forty-five years.
Last week Fletcher enjoyed 3/4s of a loaf of fresh baked American pumpernickel - the local market bakes it regularly - it's great with corned beef and lots of mustard. The market also sells the commercial German Pumpernickel "small breads" that are a great base for pate, smoked salmon and caviar. The market often has "marble rye" which is a light rye/pumpernickel mix

TOD:
Sugar and I watched "Ball of Fire" and "Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?" last night. She laughed a lot.
The book of the latter was better than the movie and would have made a great movie, but I still like the movie.

Back from the long jog, and shall now go meet Kevin Spirtas for a working lunch, after which I shall return and, at long last, address this situation of the person who has left the site because Mr. Rothman forwarded his PM to me. It's time, I think, because as much as some people would like me to appear as the villain in these scenarios (dear readers leaving the site) - 'tain't true - never has been.

Last week Fletcher enjoyed 3/4s of a loaf of fresh baked American pumpernickel
And then he got full and considerately left the rest for you?

Hardly - I think he resented that I had eaten the first 1/4.

I'm jealous! That's sound cool! I wish the London production of SITPWG had been recorded.
-
I came back from my jaunt to find a wonderful surprise for DR Ben and Anthony waiting at my door. And a loverly jaunt it was, too!

That....or...the gale was created by folks otherwise pretending to be coughing up hairballs.

DR George, you're a glutton for punishment for burning that hideous CAMELOT to a DVD. Absolutely the worst I've ever seen Marin Mazzie, and almost every other casting and directing choice in the production was just so terrible. That is one production I NEVER want to see again.
Well, I don't really like the show or this production, but I thought that since it was on anyway and blank DVDs are VERY cheap, why not? :)
-
Well, as I suspected, it did start raining while I was in the grocery store. Luckily I had taken my umbrella along, so I didn't get wet. It didn't really rain hard anyway.
-
I watched last night's BURN NOTICE while I ate lunch. Good episode with the actor who played "Dutch" on THE SHIELD as the primary guest villain. I certainly do love this show. One more episode before its second season is over.
-
Then I watched the last four episodes of SOUTH PARK. There was some really funny ribbing of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and the current craze for vampires. And, obviously, they had to do an Obama election-victory episode that was very funny (which turned into an OCEANS ELEVEN scenario).
-
There was one bonus feature on the last disc, another lengthyn commentary by the animators on the Obama episode. Amazing how the show, even a day before it airs, is still at least 1/3 not finished yet with only storyboards or animatics in various spots.
-
I had time left over to finish up Part I of WHEN THE LION ROARS which I had started a couple of nights ago. I still had about 30 minutes of part I left to watch (the end of the Thalberg era in the studio when he dies in 1937).
-
Next, I scanned through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest, but Luke and Noah were on the road in the previews for next week. Don't know WHAT that's all about, but it appears Elwood is going to get run over or something.
-
When I go back down later, I'll be able to watch ON THE OTHER HAND DEATH, the next Donald Stratchy mystery which I'm really looking forward to.
-
I also got a couple of more review copies today: Criterion's THE LAST METRO and also CADILLAC RECORDS on Blu-ray. I'll probably do the latter for my work project tomorrow.
-
How disappointing, DR vixmom. They owe you one or two...somethings.

DR Vixmom if the therapist doesn't profusely apologize I hope you will say something.

re: the joaquin phoenix thing
I remember hearing when it happened that perhaps he was just playing a joke on david letterman. Has it been confirmed that how he acted on the show was real and not a gag?
DR Jenn, there is talk that this is actually an elaborate hoax since evey move Phoenix makes is being filmed by Matt Damon.
His brother-in-law Ben Affleck is filming it.
I could never tell those two apart.
It's simple -- Damon is the blonde one...the one who actually HAS acting talent.
Affleck is the dark-haired one with the hairpiece -- the one who is better "behind" the camera, more often than not.
How do you know he has a hairpiece?

Betsy's keys were still on the bus--she met the driver at the 8:30 stop I mentioned, stepped on, he handed her her keys and she stepped off.
In other exciting breaking news, the shingles have been delivered and are stacked on the roof waiting for the roofers, who I assume will be here Monday.

Back from a good lunch with Mr. Spirtas. No packages today. I guess I'll try to do a first pass of liner notes now.

About 1pm, I called the optometrist's office and they said my glasses had just come in, but there was only 1 optician on duty today and could they schedule me for Monday. I said, "NO," and explained that this was an emergency and she said to come right over.

That's so cool! Congrats to The Vixter!

DR Vixmom, I am so proud of the Vixter...what a delightful girl you have raised!
Thank you! I think we'll keep her after all!
That was still in question??

That's what I have been and will be watching. ;D
PLAY ON was broadcast on PBS? Odd, but I don't remember it at all. I'll have to check my VHS collection.
I need to do that with my collection, too. But where to find the time? No way!
I'm not going to make a DVD of every videotape that I have, just a select few. Somewhere in my multitudes of boxes, I have the John Houseman directed The Cradle Will Rock with Patti LuPone (again, from PBS). I haven't found that videotape, but when I do, it WILL become a DVD. ;D
-
I believe The Cradle Will Rock in any show LuPone does, Blitzstein or no. ;)

Thanks Vixmom!
I'm really tired tonight. We road the streetcar through the garden district and sat through a lot of meetings today. There's a cocktail party tonight, but it's really expensive to go to it and I'm so tired that I decided to blow it off and stay in. I'll go to the restaurant downstairs for dinner and then I may just hang out in the room and get some sleep.

Someone here close to Danise should contact Vern Yip at HGTV..."Deserving Design"...and tell him of DR Danise's plight. Perhaps he'll redo the badly done rooms in her house and make a show of it.
From what I can tell he is strictly a decorator. First you need a completed house to decorate.
there has to be someone at HGTV, they do all sorts of shows.

I don't know how many people Danise told the story of her mom and how she came to be a caregiver for her mom all these years. I always thought it would have made a very sad song in "What If" if only BK had known in time to write the song for the show. So before anyone calls HGTV asking for help for her, be sure you hear the story. Jane probably knows it. Danise never posted it here, as far as I can remember. It's sad.

<SNIP>
I've also heard that there's also a Batman musical in the works. ::)

Makes me think of the scene in "It's A Gift," with the angry customer wanting his kumquats!

I also like that that statement from Time-Warner was posted via http://a.longreply.com who's slogan is "when 140 characters is not enough" or "Sometimes 140 characters does not cut it" - which is a reference to Twitter which limits posts to 140 characters. You type your "long reply" into a.longreply.com, and when you hit Save, it provides you with a shorter hyperlink to your reply.

I have received the following from ROMANIAN ANIMAL RESCUE. The wonderful woman who began this group lives in California. She has sent a request to take a poll in a Romanian newspaper at http://www.obiectivbr.ro/
Obiectiv Poll--Take Action NOW!
Here is a poll on the best solution for the street dogs in the city of Braila. Your comments are more important than votes. Comments in English will be highly regarded.
* Euthanasia (Euthanasia has been banned in Romania since Jan 2008, but the newspaper is known for its anti-animal, anti-dog attitude.)
* Spay/neuter and release on the streets
* Capture and impound (Dog pounds in Romania are equal to sentencing the animals to death by starvation and misery. It is a waste of public money, while the uncontrolled breeding of yard dogs and pets and dog abandonment is the unstoppable source of the street dogs.)
Please go to their poll and vote on this issue. THE OPTION TO CHOOSE IS #2: SPAY/NEUTER AND RELEASE ON STREETS. Once you have voted, please leave comments by clicking on "Adauga Comentarii". Your comments are very insightful and important for the animals' welfare. The poll is in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The left button "Vot" casts your vote, the right button "Rezultate" shows the results of the vote at the bottom of the page.
Capture and impound is a terrible choice for the dogs. Dog cannibalization is a common occurrence in dogpounds, like NGO Horez. The dogcatchers are paid by Braila city hall for "animal protection".
-
The letter came with videos of the dog catchers at work and the dogpounds. I chose not to post them, nor have I opened them.

Originally when this current budget crisis hit our state government, one of the suggestions that our governor proposed was asking all state employees to take one day off without pay during each pay period. She said that this would probably eliminate the need for full lay-offs. I don't know what happened to that idea (although I imagine the union shot it down); so instead we have had one round of lay-offs with another one due before the end of June.
One of the six positions for my job was eliminated, and we are hoping and praying that an upcoming retirement will stop the ax from falling on our job group again.

Speaking of retirement
G'night!

I've been working on the IMAC
All the live long day.
I've been working on the IMAC
And it's work instead of play.
Wish the movies would start burning.
Or at least they would upload.
While I watch the wheel keep turning
I must not know the code.

Our Kritzerland soundtrack release, unless I'm completely adding wrong, is going to be over seventy minutes long.
-
But thanks to DR JOSE I can open as many FIREFOX and SAFARI windows as i wish. I have learned to click and drag my photos.
Some things have escaped me and continue to do so....but I am getting there....somewhere.
So much happening on HHW today!
DR VIXMOM in Richard III Act IV Scene IV, both Elizabeth and Margaret have some strong speeches that are not much heard in or out of the classroom......

A cornucopia of musical delight!

bk - When you were "talking" about the running times as well as the bonus tracks, I was going to ask if you were going to make it a 2-disc release.
-
I finished the soundtrack notes. And the credits and thank yous. And it looks like Kritzerland is going to have another cast album that's never been issued on CD before. This one was announced by another label over a year ago - and they've been postponing it ever since. I asked about it today, and was told that they were tired of dealing with the label and that I could have it - so it's mine. Mum's the word until the deal is signed, but I was told it was mine if I wanted it and I said I wanted it.

Next question? ;)
*You can PM me if you wish.
-
No, it fits on one CD - about seventy two to seventy-four minutes would be my guess - but until it's all edited I won't know exactly - but when I burned a copy of my edited version, it runs close to seventy-seven minutes - and it doesn't include one two minute track - so when all the editing and tightening is done, I think it will be around seventy-four minutes.
-
I think that DR Jane has been quite lucky to have found so many charming contractors. ;)
Would that DR MBarnum have such luck.
Oh, I have met some very friendly contractors in my day. 8)
And those were probably for temporary erections.

DR Ben just left after a lovely dinner and a wonderful DVD of Oliver Goldsmith's very funny 18th Century comedy SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER. I liked it very much. the director essentially filmed the play all around a 17th Century estate and did very little - to my ears - rewriting of the original text. The cast was very good; I especially liked the ladies. Mrs Hardcastle is a very funny role, and I expect Goldsmith laughed himself silly while he wrote her outlandish lines and situations.
That's my news.

Can you give us a hint...like what decade is it from??

DR Ben did you like it? In spite of the mixed review I added to our NetFlix queue on DR elmore's recommendation.

Yes, very :)

Nursie, get THE RIVALS from the Bristol Old Vic, which is actually filmed in a theatrical performance. It's wonderful and Mrs Malaprop ("she's as headstrong as an allegory on the banks of the Nile") is delightful as she mangles the English language: "Sure, if I reprehend any thing in this world it is the use of my oracular tongue, and a nice derangement of epitaphs!"

Will it be Greek to us? ;D ;)

If I'm guessing right, 1967.
-
Of course I'm still waiting to see if my guesses of JULES ET JIM or HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR were correct, so this could be way off, too. ;)
-
Yes, Jane, it was quite good. We laughed and laughed. I read the play in college and I think I've seen one production in my lifetime so much of it was new but it was very well done and lots of fun
-
The dinner and conversation (and the pecan pie) with Elmore was great. And my (our, it's actually for Anthony and me) suprise was equally exciting. Anthony will be very, very happy.
-
DR George, you're a glutton for punishment for burning that hideous CAMELOT to a DVD. Absolutely the worst I've ever seen Marin Mazzie, and almost every other casting and directing choice in the production was just so terrible. That is one production I NEVER want to see again.
I liked the Mordred. Oh, how I laugh and laugh.
I found him as repulsive as the rest of the production.
-
Oh... I guess I better get ready for my basically overnight bus trip back to NYC.
Laters...
-
And DR George, don't forget the next Donald Stratchey mystery, ICE BLUES, will also be arriving on DVD within a few months, I'm thinking. It has already aired on here!
-
I began my evening of entertainment with ON THE OTHER HAND DEATH. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't find the solution of the mystery quite the surprise as in A SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM (I had much of it figured out but not all), but that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the piece.
These mysteries are done on a low budget, but they hide it very well, and they look very slick. I'm so happy to have them for rewatching. I'm sure I'll rewatch this one within the week.
-
I also watched the 24 minute "making of" documentary on the disc as well as the trailer for ICE BLUES and the trailer for the Robert Gant spy movie which should be coming out on DVD soon.
-
Next, I watched another episode of MOONLIGHT. This was the one with the hired assassin who almost murders Joseph. A neat backstory on Joseph's character shows us a completely different side to his personality. I liked the episode very much.
-
I concluded my evening of viewing with tonight's GHOST WHISPERER. It was a lovely episode, quite touching in the end, and it looks like an effective segue into next week's BIG revelation.

Well, I guess I'd better get home and start watching this.
Until later!

I'm heading down now a little earlier than usual after I do a few computer maintenance projects and then rearrange my office just a bit.
WBBL.

I'll post a few more photos tonight. These are from the Rebirth Tour we took
This one is a part of the musician's village that Harry Connick Jr is working on with Habitat for Humanity. I was on the wrong side of the bus, but I think you get the picture

This is one of the homes that Bradd Pitt's organization has already built. They are totally green with solar energy and some, if not all even have escape hatches on the roof...just in case. His houses are all different. They are ready to go building 150 so far
(http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff302/HHWgroup/Picture092.jpg)
-
Here the house on the left was one of the first back in the neighborhood. It was restored by a woman's church so she could move home. The one on the right is one of the Brad Pitt houses

just so there's no mistake about it, this is still what most of the area looks like, You see steps going to nowhere and there were no empty lots before and now it's almost all empty lots. But, they are making progress. They still need lots of help, but changes are happening and there is a lot of construction going on

Good Evening!
Greetings from the bus.
-I'm just hoping that the guys who just boarded - and who obviously have just smoked some reefer -end up passing out. Soon.
*On the bright side(?), I'm glad I got here early. The bus is not supposed to leave for another 20 minutes, and it's already filled up. Which also means we'll be leaving early too. -And the bus driver just announced that he won't be stopping in DC or Baltimore, so there's a good chance I'll be back in NYC around 6:00am.

This is the last one I'll post. there are lots and lots of empty gutted houses like this one. The markings are still on them from the searches. On this house you can see the Xs on the left is the groups number that searched, on the top is the date and on the bottom is the number of bodies (0). Also on this house you see f/w. that's the spca's marking for food and water. It's hard to see in the photo, but it also says 2 dogs. They were providing food and water for 2 dogs in this house until they could rescue them

Travel vibes to DR Jose
-
Anyway, the tour really was upbeat about the changes and the wonderful help that's been coming in from all over the country. The attitude is hopeful, but there is still so much to be done and they don't want people to think the recovery is over. It isn't.
-
Yes, JMK, this cast album will be Greek to everyone.
-
I went to Amoeba earlier - just to look around and relax - it was just the ticket.

Consumer-protection vibes to Danise

nice Kritzerland news, BK
