Well, you've read the notes, the notes were busy, and now it is time for you to post until the very busy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CHURRIGUERESQUE!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
-
Welcome five GUESTS.
-
Here's a surrealist joke. I love this one:
Two penguins are sitting in a bathtub. One says to the other, "Will you hand me the soap?" The other says, "What do you think I am...a radio?"
;D
-
And now, I must be going to sleep. I have rehearsal tomorrow for "R&J," which means I have to leave work early, so I'd like to try to actually get to work early. We'll see.
Good night, BK, Der Brucer and any guests.
-
But before I go...LOVED THE HHW TONY PARTY!! :D
-
Me, too. I do love our little awards gatherings, even if I apparently irk dear reader Jose to no end - and I'm jiggy with that :). It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (which is also a lyric in one of the new Nudie Musical songs).
-
DR Sam: I am so very sorry about your loss of your father. Please know that I am thinking of you. I am glad that he didn't suffer.
-
It will be interesting to have DR Ben's report from inside RCMH last night.
-
Condolences to DR Sam. Strength vibes to you!
-
Enjoyed the Tony par-tay! Depending on how things go this next week, I could be here a LOT more!
-
Condolences to DR SAM

YESTERDAY DR GEORGE POSTED THIS
Quote from: bk on June 07, 2009, 03:46:16 PM
I shall now go to either Gelson's or the Subway.
I had Subway for dinner...I still have half a footlong for later. :)
So does that mean you have six inches? ;D
-
Why couldn't they cards on the ark?
Noah sat on the deck
-
Oh, Sam. I am so sorry to hear your sad news.
-
I won't even try to get through yesterday's posts right now. It's 8:19 and I'm at work. If I didn't have a raft of meetings and preparation for the trip to DC next Monday I would have taken the day off. I'm exhausted and I only had to travel back to 16th Street from 50 Street last night.
I will provide details later but suffice it to say I had a great time.
I hope the opening number played as well on the small screen as it did live at Radio City Music Hall. It was amazing!!!
-
Dear Sam, having gone through the loss of a parent I know how difficult it can be and my thoughts and sympathies are with you.
-
DR Sam, sorry to hear about your loss.
-
Just before I left for Radio City.
-
And now I have to get to work.
-
Great photo, Ben.
-
I got home from a dinner party event last night sooner than I expected and I wound up watching the Tony Awards anyway. I'm sorry that I did. It seems that every year I keep thinking that it can't get any worse and it does.
I decided not to join the HHW party cause I had nothing good to say and I didn't want to be a party pooper.
-
DR Sam, I'm sorry to read about your father. It's good that he got to go the way he wanted.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late amnd I have a few errands to run before settling down to work on some Jerome Moross scores.
I cannot think of a single joke this morning, only the sad news from DR Sam. It's two years and four months since my Dad's death and I think of him every day.
-
Monday morning greetings! How can it be the second week of June already?
-
DR Sam - you have my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your father.
-
I can't stop thinking about how bad the direction was on the Tony's last night...so I guess I'd better get to work.
-
TOD: A man came up to me and said he hadn't had a bite in weeks, so I bit him.

Because I use Twitter more as a consumer than as a contributor and get updates from the Dayton Daily News, here's an item from Alice Ripley's "hometown" press:
Ripley Wins Tony Award (http://www.daytondailynews.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/artsandentertainment/entries/2009/06/07/ripley_wins_tony_award.html)

Also, I neglected to mention that there was a nice profile of Alice Ripley (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/07/theater/07webe.html?ref=theater) in yesterday's New York Times.
-
I decided not to join the HHW party cause I had nothing good to say and I didn't want to be a party pooper.
If you review any of last night's posts, you will find that this didn't stop the rest of us! :)

Love that photo, DR Ben!!!!! :D

I do, too! People sitting near DR Ben last night at RCMH were probably whispering about "that distinguished BBC/Wales critic."
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it feels like a Monday. Just sayin'.

And it looks like www.bluegobo.com is back up and running....sans the Ed Sullivan clips.

Good morning!
This is going to be the last nice day for awhile as we have rain/thunderstorms forecast for the rest of the week. Hot here today (88), so the AC will probably have to be turned on. Rats!
-
Very sorry to read of your loss, DR Sam. I certainly can empathize having lost my dad in 2000. My thoughts will be with you today.
-
Nice picture of DR Ben. Thanks for sharing.

Me, too. I do love our little awards gatherings, even if I apparently irk dear reader Jose to no end - and I'm jiggy with that :). It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it (which is also a lyric in one of the new Nudie Musical songs).

Humidity's back here, too, and we just gave in to air conditioning.
-
I enjoyed the Tony show last night more than those of the previous two years. That's not to say there weren't problems, and I agree that the songs for BILLY ELLIOTT and NEXT TO NORMAL didn't do those shows any favors. Still, I liked a good bit of the show and applaud that they tried to present songs, numbers (like the touring shows) which could cater to the heartland. I'd have rather seen something from WICKED rather than MAMMA MIA! but that's just my opinion.
-
DR Ben - Will you be wearing your tux again when you give your presentation in DC? ;)
-I await your I-was-sitting-in-RCMH report.
-
Today's work project will be THE GREATEST GAME IN THE WORLD on Blu-ray, a movie I've never seen. It's 2 hours long, so that will take a good piece of the afternoon, and with a large slate of shows tonight I'm interested in, it's going to be a busy day getting the disc done and some new TV watched.
-
The difference between being in the theatre live and watching something on television is amazing, just like the opening number. It was friggin' amazing to see it in Radio City Music Hall. My friend said it didn't play well at all on television due to cutting and camera angles, etc. but it made me cry it was so exciting.

From what I understand, Wicked was supposed to be represented last night, but I guess they just had to settle for the "reference" at the end of the Shrek number. ;)

On TV TOnight!™
ABC - THE BACHLORETTE, HERE COME THE NEWLYWEDS
NBC - I'M A CELEBRITY, DATELINE
TNT - THE CLOSER (season premiere), RAISING THE BAR (season premiere)

With three national tours doing landoffice business, it certainly doesn't need the publicity (poor LEGALLY BLONDE can use all it can get), but I'd have liked to have seen a number from it.

I was just going to say... ;)
Having attended one Tony Awards proper and two rehearsals, the show's directors really do try to make sure that the people sitting in the theatre get a good show (too). -Especially since a good chunk of them paid a good chunk of money to be there. If the whole show was blocked purely for the TV audience, well... Then it wouldn't be "theatre". ???

Yes, on TV it seemed way too busy, cluttered, and disorganized, and between sound cutouts and some off pitch singing, it was a mixed bag for sure.

Good morning, everyone.
I only have a few minutes here, then must get busy with Monday things.
Sam, I'm so sorry about your loss. I am, however, glad that it took place quietly and peacefully--the best way to go. Perhaps today's jokes will give you a bit of much-needed relief.

For those who are thinking about a Blu-ray player, I see that there will be a brand on sale in the Amazon Gold Box at 1 p.m. EDT for a limited time (stock on hand). I don't know what brand it is or what model it will be, but if you're the least bit interested, you might want to drop by there at 1 p.m. to see what it is.
-
I can think of no jokes at the moment, but I loved Ginny's about the oinkment.
-
My heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to Sam and her entire family :'(
-
For someone who has memorized thousands of lines of dialog and hundreds of songs, I have no memory for jokes. I love them, and five seconds after I hear them and laugh at them, they're out of my head.
-
Me miss THE CLOSER? Surely you jest!
And don't call me Shirley.
-
As for Brett Michaels...
-He was supposed to head back up on the bandstand with the rest of his band mates - instead of holding for a few more seconds to milk some applause. -Once a rocker, always a rocker, I guess.
-The extent of his injuries: a "little bloody nose".
-
I guess I need to head down now to get cleaned up for my lunch out with best friend John.
WBBL.
-
On TV TOnight!
Thanks, DR Matt H.
Is tonight not also the premiere of Season 5 of Kathy Griffin's My Life on the D-List?
-
My friend said it didn't play well at all on television due to cutting and camera angles, etc. but it made me cry it was so exciting.
That seems to be the consensus on the Interwebs.

Borle, O'Hara, Kudisch, Peil, Moran, Davi Appeared in Finding Neverland Reading (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/130003-Borle_O%27Hara_Kudisch_Peil_Moran_Davi_Appeared_in_Finding_Neverland_Reading)
"Weinstein Live Entertainment presented an industry reading of the latest draft of the musical Finding Neverland on June 5.
Tony Award winner Ron Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie) directed the reading of the new show based on the romantic tear-jerker film about imagination, storytelling, theatre and James M. Barrie's attachment to four young boys whose mother is ill. Christian Borle (Legally Blonde) played writer Barrie, as he did in the earlier December 2008 reading."
Hmm.. "Ron Ashford" doesn't appear anywhere on the IBDB. ;)

Making it work vibes to DR EDISAURUS.

So, after reading comments I guess CBS allowed the show to run over a few minutes. I wasn't sure if we were seeing it live in the theatre and everyone else watching on television had been cut to their local news casts. Glad to hear that it was broadcast live. It was quite funny. According to a friend who went to the rehearsal most of the dummy lyrics ended up being the real lyrics.

Busy Monday morning.
DR BEN the picture was great! Hope you scanned the ticket for your scrapbook!
-
I thought Mr Neil Patrick Harris was terrific as the host.

Woman goes into a hardware store to buy a hinge for her screen door. She finds what she needs and takes it to the counter.
The man rings it up and says: "Do you want a screw for that hinge?"
And she says: "No, but I will for that toaster."
-
Busy Monday morning.
DR BEN the picture was great! Hope you scanned the ticket for your scrapbook!
Yes, it has been scanned. I have the body of the ticket. Since it has no bar code it couldn't be scanned so they took the perforated end off of the ticket and then it was punched when I got my program.
I had been hoping to get at least one extra program but they are guarded like the gold at Fort Knox. You have to show your ticket, which is then punched or scanned depending on what kind of ticket you have and that's all you get. I hung around after the show to scour for floor samples but ALMOST NO ONE left programs on the floor. I did manage to get one and almost two but a beady-eyed little scavenger beat me to it.

Mother Superior was sitting at her desk in her office when her secretary, Sister Agnus, rushed through the door.
"Mother Superior, I have something to tell you." whispered Sister Agnus with urgency. "There's been a case of syphilis found amongst the nuns."
Mother Superior clasped her hands together and cried, "Oh, thank Heavens! I was getting sick of the Chablis!"

I was gonna join the par-tay last night, but I tuned in to the show and fairly quickly tuned out -- they completely lost me around the Shrek number (those costumes -- geeeak! -- that's a cross between a gag and a scream -- the donkey looked like it had been left out in the rain ... or eaten by moths -- cheesy costumes in my humble opinion, but what do I know out here in the boonies -- I just read it won best costumes for a musical...who knew ...) I tried to check back in a few times, but nothing could draw me back in ... so eventually I changed the channel ...
... and figured who would want someone at the party wondering around muttering: "hot tranny mess" over and over
a few good things -- but overall -- what was shown from many of those shows wasn't good PR (I'm just saying, for me, I wasn't moved to rush out and buy a ticket)
-

That was the impression I had -- because you could see everyone else scramble off and he just stood there facing the audience like "ain't I something" and I was thinking "get off the stage, doofus" and then when the set starting changing I was thinking "you'd better hurry, doofus" ... and he didn't ....
... and then I thought: "ouch, I hope he's okay" simultaneously with "that's someone who doesn't take direction"

Well, I hope he doesn't miss any performances of ROCK OF AGES. But if he does, at least I know I can still go see Dolly Parton in 9 TO 5 and Elton John in BILLY ELLIOT.
-
I'm caught up, took about an hour.
I enjoyed the Tony awards broadcast last night. I could have done without the touring shows and maybe a number from 9 to 5 instead.
-
And what was the deal with a lot of the singing? Either my hearing is showing its age or stuff gets distorted on TV, or there were a lot of "pitchy" issues (see, I've learned something from American Idol ...)

And I completely forgot I have a dinner to go to at seven - an LACC thing. Jan Abrams kept badgering me about a rehearsal time and I KNEW there was something on for tonight but couldn't remember and I hadn't written it down - then got a reminder e-mail. So, she'll have to rehearse by herself, or I can be there for the first half-hour - unless we get through early, in which case we can start earlier.
-
I'm up and attending to thing.
And what about Lurch and Cousin Itt?

It wasn't a nominee for Best Musical (though they did get to do a snippet in the opening.)

I enjoyed the Tony's and it was fun to see Angela Lansbury and Jane Fonda (wow, she sure ages well!) and I even enjoy the people I have never heard of. I just always fee so happy for the winners.
None of the shows made me want to rush to NYC this time around.
I am with BK on the "In Memoriam" spot...how awful...it was a struggle to see who was being shown on the screen. Why did they think we wanted to see the chorus and orchestra instead of the people who had passed?
-
DR Ben, you look so very handsome in your "goin' to meetin" clothes! I look very forward to hearing all about your evening!

Good Afternoon!
And now that Part 1 of today's tidying up is complete.. Time for some "Y&R" and some postin'...

Hmm.. "Ron Ashford" doesn't appear anywhere on the IBDB. ;)
Frankel and Korie; that means another damned Coughlin orchestration. No use putting a bid in for it!
And the Playbill article in question was corrected shortly after I posted that post... and sent an email to Ken Jones. ;)

Hmmm...I always wondered why the Tony Playbills on eBay were so pricey.
DR Ben - Did you get your Playbill before or after the ceremony? I seem to remember getting mine afterwards.
*Does the Playbill Store on Playbill.com still have any for sale?

Tony Ratings
TV by the Numbers reports:
Nearly unwatched in the 18-49 demo, the Tony Awards 63rd Annual Gala at a 1.3 demo rating was still up from last year’s 1.1.
Toni Fitzgerald at Media Life adds:
It looks as though Broadway’s bid for a younger, hipper Tony Awards paid off. Ratings for last night’s ceremony were well up over last year among younger viewers, albeit from a tiny base.
The three-hour Tony Awards averaged a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating on CBS last night, according to Nielsen overnights, up 18 percent from last year’s 1.1.
That’s hardly a great rating, but it’s a rare improvement for a show that has been trending downward for many years.

I got mine before the ceremony. By the time I got down the stairs after the ceremony (and after my looking for loose programs) the counter was shut down.
I'm sure Playbill Store has some for sale if I want to buy another one.

I am with BK on the "In Memoriam" spot...how awful...it was a struggle to see who was being shown on the screen. Why did they think we wanted to see the chorus and orchestra instead of the people who had passed?
Another case of live versus television. It was a very nice spot from the house at RCMH. We saw the pictures, the names, etc. and it was very moving.
-
Maybe Bebe Neuwirth can repeat her In Memoriam spot next year dressed up in full Morticia glam.

WHOA!
I just checked in on the goings on at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) where Apple is unveiling their latest product line, software and features...
-A cheaper(!) 17" MacBook Pro
-Lots of new bells and whistles in the upcoming Mac OS - "Snow Leopard"
-And, apparently, the new iPhone is about to revealed too.
If any DR would like to follow along, gdgt.com is live-blogging (http://live.gdgt.com/2009/06/08/live-wwdc-2009-keynote-coverage/) from the conference.

Good for Aaron Tveit! He was wonderful in the not-so-good SAVED, but so were the rest of the cast.

I hope that if it involves chinchy basses, Edisaurus, that they get what's coming to them.
Yes, but unfortunately chinchy basses will prevail.

Miss Dixie Bell needs all the vibes we can muster: her left hind leg has gone out on her, the vet thinks it is only a torn ligament and put her on a stronger anti-inflammatory. She has all her energy and her cold wet nose, she's just not putting any weight down on that leg.
-
This has not been a good afternoon. I went to the bank and forgot about the boiling eggs on the stove. Well, I got back to a ruined pan and exploded eggs everywhere. The whole apartment stinks. I swept up all the egg fragments I could locate but I suspect I will be pelted with falling eggs whenever I stand at the stove for the next several months. I am not amused.
Well, at least the laundry's finished and the floors mopped.

WHOA!

Thanks, DR George! Now that it's all cleaned up, I think it's kind of funny. I was a careless and forgetful ass, and it's all my fault.
On the plus side, I did get asked to do two jobs today, one from a DR and one from my favorite singer Liz Callaway. That should pay for the new pan.

It sounds like a very funny situation in a sit-com, but I know that it's not funny when it happens in real life..until you look back at it later. :-*

It's warmed up just as forecast, but not warm enough inside to trigger the AC yet. I suspect tonight it will click on.
-
When I got in from lunch, I watched THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED. I dreaded thinking about watching a movie where golf is a key component, but I was wrong. It's beautifully and interestingly pictured, and the true story of the 20-year old amateur who beat the world's best to win the U.S. Open in 1913 held my interest from beginning to end. Bill Paxton did an excellent job directing this, and the Blu-ray really looks beautiful.
-
Did I miss something? Like the whereabouts of DRs Jane and DakotaCelt?
-
There are two commentaries, but I saved them for this evening. I went ahead and watched the other bonus features on the disc. The first was a making-of documentary with the director, producer, and stars talking about the amazing work of the cinematographer, costume designer, production designer, and special effects people in giving the film such a classy look.
-
DR Jane let us know some weeks ago that she would be E&T for a period of time. As far as the other, I can't comment.
-
Poor DD Dixie Bell! Big vibes and big hugs!!
-
The second featurette was an informative bio of the two principal subjects of the film: the U.S. amateur Francis Ouimet and the British champion Harry Vardon. I was glad to know the stories about both of these men.
-
DR Larry---at least you didn't wind up with egg on your face!
You've gotta break a few eggs to make...tempera paint.
-
And the third and last featurette was a 1963 TV special with the real Francis Ouimet being interviewed about his career and then walking us around the course where he won his championship. Good stuff.
TV shows back in those days were primitive looking compared to today's slick half hours.
-
DR Larry---at least you didn't wind up with egg on your face!
Usually it's already on my face but only when my foot isn't in my mouth. Did you like the two songs?
-
TOD: A termite walks into a bar and asks: "Where is the bar tender?"

Glad to see Tony ratings were up from last year (1.3 million more people) and the highest since 2006. It finished second to the NBA basketball finals, so CBS should be satisfied with those numbers. I suspect Neil Patrick Harris will be asked back next year, too.
-
Now, I'm going to jump off-line and do some writing. Then, it's back downstairs to listen to those two commentaries and then enjoy the evening's prime time TV offerings.

I'm bummed. I thought that concert with Malcolm Gets was last night at the Triad but i was wrong. When I got home, I sent the conductor a message. He's not responded, and I don't know when this this concert is happening.

Back from taking DH Richard to the podiatrist (he'll live) and then going shopping for steak dinner fixings. Rob and Mary Linda are on their way back from Michigan and will be here for dinner. I'm taking a break while the potatoes bake.
DR Elmore - sorry about your kitchen mishap. Maybe that would be a good topic for us to discuss some day:
What was your worst kitchen disaster?
How 'bout it, BK?

DR elmore3003 - could that concert possibly be TONIGHT (http://www.triadnyc.com/event_spotlight.php?fromCalendar=true&eventID=751) at 7:00 PM?

TOD:
I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes
you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.... He was a DWARF!!!
He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, "I AM NOT HAPPY!!!"
So, I looked down at him and said, "Well, then which one are you?"
And that's when the fight started.....
-
Aww, poor Miss Dixie Bell. I hope the vet has a quick and inexpensive solution.
-
DR Elmore, I did that once. I left the eggs simmering and left the house for quite some time. I don't think they exploded -- I didn't find egg everywhere. They just had big holes in them. And the pan was ruined.
-

To answer my own question from last night:
The three Billy's were NOT the youngest performers ever to win Tonys. That distinction belongs to Frankie Michaels [young Patrick] who won for Mame in 1966 at the age of 10. Daisy Egan was 12 when she won in 1991 for The Secret Garden.

I did not watch the Tonys. Or the Marias.

I spent today working the score of THE PRODUCERS. Since I have a sort of strangely bifurcated role, in that I'm picking up the bulk of the "other instruments" with a synth for performances, it's fun to just play the boom chuck parts for piano in preparation for our first actual, honest to goodness rehearsal tomorrow.
-
I did play the most opulent private party I've done in many a year on Saturday night. It's a nouveau riche Persian emigree couple who have built themselves a 20,000 SF (no I'm not kidding--or exaggerating) coral pink stucco manse with colonnades and minarets galore. When I got there to set up, the husband was screaming at the wife in Farsi. I thought he was actually going to haul off and smack her. Then he turned his attentions to me and was quite upset I had brought my own chair. He wanted me to sit in this leather throne like device he had on his patio. I explained to him that first, it was too high, and second, it's rather difficult to play piano in a soft chair with big wooden arms that stick out about two feet, keeping the seat well back from the keyboard.
-
sort of strangely bifurcated
The title of your tell-all memoir, perhaps? :)

DR Sam: Very sorry about your father.
I was lucky last week, when my own father and stepmom were able to visit us for a few days. It may turn out to be the last time I will see him. Between that, and your sad news, I am reminded to treasure the moments we have.
Loving thoughts and vibes being sent your way -

Miss Dixie Bell just had a short leash walk, following dinner, she used the hind leg a bit more than earlier today; still she cut the walk short herself.
Once inside, she tracked down her ball (which she rarely plays with) and played on the floor with me for ten minutes.
She seems to be feeling better than her humans about her condition.
We thank you for the vibes so far and for the vibes which will continue.
-
I don't think I can tell my favorite joke here, however.
But, I'll try to keep it as cleaned up as possible:
Who knows the difference between a Reuben sandwich and a consensual sexual act?

I haven't had a chance to read any of the Tony posts from last night. That will have to wait till tomorrow.
But i did watch the show. And thought i'd give my 2 cents.
I really liked neil patrick harris and actually wish he had gotten to do an opening number. i thought his closing number was one of the highlights of the show.
I didn't really like the touring companies numbers. I would have rather seen other shows on broadway now. Although i think that the Jersey Boys number did come across quite well. And while i like mamma mia and legally blonde a lot it just didn't excite me (especially since the actresses did not excite me).
I think the idea for the Opening Number was great. But it was too hectic for my taste.
And what were some of the people who decided on the musical numbers thinking?
There is only one number that i saw that made me really want to see that show. And that was NEXT TO NORMAL. I loved that they showed 3 main characters. And i loved the song.
I also would love to see BILLY ELLIOT. But i thought that their main number ( i liked the beginning one with elton john) was too out of context for me. It seemed interesting. But i could not follow what was happening.
GUYS & DOLLS????? I wanted to see lauren graham so much. Or craig bierko. Instead they show some guy singing "rock the boat". THat is a nice song. But not what i wanted to see.
I think the HAIR and WSS numbers were okay choices (key songs). But they did not make me want to see either show.
I actually enjoyed the 9-5 number and dolly parton.
-
Perhpas I shall watch Bjenamin Utobon on Lvu Ray ....
-
And it looks like www.bluegobo.com is back up and running....sans the Ed Sullivan clips.
I am very glad. They have always had the best copy on the internet of "WE'LL TAKE A GLASS TOGETHER" with Michael Jeter and the WSMA. That clip always makes me happy.

...GUYS & DOLLS????? I wanted to see lauren graham so much. Or craig bierko. Instead they show some guy singing "rock the boat". THat is a nice song. But not what i wanted to see....
That "some guy" just got the television exposure that can launch a career. His name is Tituss Burgess - remember it.
Michael Jeter got the same kind of exposure the year he won Featured Actor in a Musical for Grand Hotel. His performance of "We'll Take a Glass Together", along with his acceptance speech, was immediately followed by his being signed to the Burt Reynolds television series Evening Primrose, and he no longer had to stick to his paralegal day job.
Burgess' performance of "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" was the same kind of career launcher. And it was the kind of performance I love to see on the Tonys.
-
I have pulled the entire contents of my living room closet out, and now my living room is quite the mess.
Little by little I will find new ways to store all this stuff and/or give much stuff to the Humane Society Thrift Store.
I am currently putting envelopes full of photos into the many photo albums I have purchased over the years.

Good Evening!
After running some errands earlier, I proceeded to walk through Riverbank State Park. Then down to Columbia University. The through Morningside Park. Then through St. Nicholas Park...
A good walk, and the "promised" rain never materialized. Instead, it turned out to be quite a cool, early summer evening in New York City. :)

Add a zero.

That "some guy" just got the television exposure that can launch a career. His name is Tituss Burgess - remember it.
Tituss already has quite a career. He managed to survive Good Vibrations unscathed, then went right into the original company of Jersey Boys... Then into The Wiz at La Jolla... Then Sebastian in the original cast of The Little Mermaid. And now, Nicely-Nicely in the current revival of Guys & Dolls. Four years, four Broadway shows - not a bad track record at all! -With a couple of other theatrical stops along the way. And he released a solo R&B-inflected album back in 2006.
*On a personal note, when we were both relative "nobodies" ;), I played for him during a cast cabaret. He sang "Here's That Rainy Day"... God, I wish that was on YouTube. Although, there are some other clips of him on YouTube (not accompanied by me).
-
GUYS & DOLLS????? I wanted to see lauren graham so much. Or craig bierko. Instead they show some guy singing "rock the boat". THat is a nice song. But not what i wanted to see.
DR Jennifer - There's a reason that Lauren Graham has not been doing that much publicity - singing publicity - for the show. -Just sayin'. ;)
*Although, she and Kate Jennings Grant have been performing "Marry The Man Today" at select events.
**And Craig Bierko was featured in the Opening Medley.
-
...retracting my claws now...
::)
-
DR elmore - I still remember finding out that hardboiled eggs can and will explode... Of course, it took my mom yelling at me in the backyard to tell me so. Spoo!
*To prevent that from happening again, I use the "bring to boil, then let sit" method now. I place the eggs in the pan, cover them with cold water, then place the pan on the stove. I heat the pan up until the water comes to a boil, then turn off the heat and cover the pan. After about 15-17 minutes**, drain the water, then cover the eggs with cold water too cool them down.
**Or 3-5 minute for soft-cooked; 6-8 minutes for medium-cooked yolk.

DR JRand - It's sort of scary... I fully understood those ptsos.

-
DAW - Did you notice that in response to the notion on ATC that Channing and Tveit do a musical of THE FAN, some person with too much time on his or her hands posted this:
N2N/PAL JOEY/THE FAN Tony moment
AARON TVEIT as MICHAEL BIEHN (tune of "I Am The One")
Can you tell me why you shudder in horror
Can you tell me is it because of me
Can I cut you
It won’t hurt for too long now
How could something be wrong, I just can’t see
‘Cause I’m just a nut
And I won’t just go
But hon you do not know
I am the one who stalked you
I am the one who stared
I am the one who made you so scared
I am the one who’ll kill you
And they won’t catch me; if they think that they can
Hon, you just don’t know I’m THE FAN
STOCKARD CHANNING as LAUREN BACALL (tune of "Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered")
Pardon if I get formal
When I act on this whim
May I be next to Normal
If Normal looks like him
It’s fate again
It’s great again
It’s fun when a date looks like Tveit again
Bereft, badgered and besotted no more!
(counterpoint created by the arranger, then)
STOCKARD as LAUREN, now alone after AARON as MICHAEL is gone
When that Aaron's here I sing "what is a man"
I miss the mountin'
Oh, I miss the mountin'
I miss my fan
I miss my fan

Miss Dixie Bell is ensconced on the couch - for the night - she's had her daily dose of the new anti-inflammatory medicine and her brief walk on the leash. She's been adding more and more weight to that leg, little by little, and we spent some time on the floor playing with her favorite toys.
Now to see what tomorrow brings.
Dixie Bell and I - and mum - continue to thank you wonderful people for the vibes being sent.
-
Condolences to DR Sam and family from all of us

Vibes of all sorts to Edi

Healing vibes to Dixie Bell

There is only one number that i saw that made me really want to see that show. And that was NEXT TO NORMAL. I loved that they showed 3 main characters. And i loved the song.
I was sort of surprised that they did not pick a number from N2N that featured Jennifer Damiano. Especially since she was also nominated for a Tony this year, and she has a fan-base from her Spring Awakening days. -Although, since most of her songs contain four-letter words... Hmmm...

...GUYS & DOLLS?????
Thanks, but I will take Walter Bobbie's version any time.

DR td - Thanks for the update on DD Dixie Bell. Maybe she just wanted more couch time. ;) ~~~~~

It would have been nice(r) to see - and hear it - without the sound issues and hand-held microphone.
-
DR FJL - I could run that by Tom Kitt later in the week if you'd like.
;D
-
DR SWW - I believe you mean(t) "Evening Shade". ;)

I'm bummed. I thought that concert with Malcolm Gets was last night at the Triad but i was wrong. When I got home, I sent the conductor a message. He's not responded, and I don't know when this this concert is happening.
That's too bad, Elmore, but what a coinkydink! I just got Malcolm Gets' solo CD delivered to me, here at work. I'm going to listen to it right now. :)
Conducted by the evilest queen in show biz!

Perhaps I should have said I preferred the 1990's revival version better. It was nothing against Mr. Burgess, but I didn't like the choreography at all.
And speaking of that, The stupid bass drum that I carried thru most of GUYS AND DOLLS, became soemthing of a running joke because I was always running into someone or blocking the wings or whatever. We decided that the drum should have gotten his name in the program, so I named the drum, Tubby Kaye.
-
Well. On that note.
G'night!

DR JMK - When I subbed in for the national tour, there were two keys for "The Little Wooden Boy". And I had to prepare both keys. And ended up playing both keys over the course of my brief stint.
I didn't bother to ask "Why?" at the time, but... Do you have any idea why a transposition was needed?... For a solo piano/instrumental cue?!?!?!
*And when I just did the show in Charleston, I was reminded of "nightmare" of the cue going into Roger's apartment, and the phone call. I was amazed at how fast that scene change took place, and just how fast we/I had to play that cue.
-
Well. On that note.
G'night!
Sweet Dreams, DR TCB.

Jose - A parody done with much affection. Brian Yorkey was the person responsible for getting The Last Starfighter to the Village Theatre for our terrific experience there in 2006, and both Tom and Brian were Skip's students at the BMI Workshop. They even sent Skip one of their opening night commemorative gifts with a beautiful note.
If i wanted to be sarcastic, i might have included my number from The Sound of Prozac, making some changes to help the road tour :) :
SUPERIOR MOTHER
Can you tell me what it is you can't face now
Can you tell me if it's that sweet von Trapp
Did they taunt you, all those sweet little children
Or did something go wrong that made you snap
But Maria dear
You have got to go
'Cause this show needs more dough
I am the nun who guides you
I am the nun who leads
I am the nun who'd give you her beads
I am the nun who's climbing
Up walls that seems just like a cast iron gate
I am the nun who says wait
So climb up those mountains
Cli-i-imb 'til you ford a stream
(you get the idea, I'd never do anything like that!)

I am so jealous. You guys get 2 of my favorite show tonight, MY LIFE ON THE D LIST (which hopefully we will get in a month)...
We're only 45 minutes in so far, and I have to say it's already been quite the laugh-filled episode. Kathy Griffin + Bette Midler = ;D
-
DR FJL - With mucho affection indeed! And, of course, you'd never do anything like that. :)
-
Had some wonderful viewing tonight.
I began by listening to rather large chunks from each of the commentaries on the work project disc. I really liked the screenwriter's track. Since he wrote the original book, he could fill in so much information that couldn't be included in the movie and it was all really interesting stuff.

It would have been nice(r) to see - and hear it - without the sound issues and hand-held microphone.
I liked the staging of the Bobbie version so much more. And the tempo was decidedly faster and thus its impact more electric.

I specifically saved it until tomorrow to enjoy while I eat lunch.
-
Next, I watched last night's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. Very surprising episode. Lynn Redgrave was the principal guest star.
-
Next up was today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Just skimmed it since the boys weren't on, but they were in the previews for tomorrow.
-
Then I watched episode #4 from THE CLOSER - Season Four box set. Enjoyable episode to see again.
-
Then I went back and rewatched some of last night's Tony special moments. Neil's final number was where I started. Then, I watched the opening number, the SHREK number, and Angela's acceptance speech.
-
Then I watched tonight's season premiere of THE CLOSER. Good episode, very moving in several places with a nice surprise revelation.
Obviously, Detective Daniels is the cast member who has left the show.
-
Page Ten Dance!!!
-
And then I concluded my evening with tonight's RAISING THE BAR. Two cases going on tonight, neither all that interesting though the one with the uncle accused of dealing drugs when it was his nephew actually doing it was OK. (The hockey mom story was rather lame.)
The haircut on the star was VERY flattering and made a GREAT difference in his appearance.
-
DR SWW - I believe you mean(t) "Evening Shade". ;)
Bitch, bitch, bitch.
-
bk and other Los Angelenos (present and past) - You may want to watch the first 15 minutes of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien". Conan and Andy Richter "sail" down the Los Angeles River. ;)
-
I'm heading downstairs to bed now.
Good night!
-
OH!
It's Stanley Donen Night on TCM... :)

I love "Here's That Rainy Day"
-
OK... Time for sleep.
Goodnight.
-
My home is still a mess, what with closet stuff strung out everywhere...but by the end of the week everything should be in it's place, and neatly.
-
I took a break to watch CHEHRE PE CHEHRA (1981) which is a Bollywood version of DR JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE.....it was very interesting...and if everyone hadn't been speaking in Hindi, you would have thought it was an old Hammer film.

Thank you everyone.
I wish it wasn't so late and I could read today's jokes.
But I must read tomarrow, must now sleep.
Thank you again, everyone.

I'm just now watching the last segment of this. Talk about hysterical! :D

I am finally home. Holy moley on rye, I never stopped once today, from dealing with paypal, to grabbing a bite to eat, to rehearsing, to sitting at an LACC banquet for four and a half hours - and then having bumper to bumper traffic for three miles because the ASSES that run this city decided to close off two lanes for work - work which, by the way, wasn't being done. Bravo, ASSES, and may each and every one of you get what's coming to you. I'll talk about what was coming to me at the banquet in the notes, which I must now obviously write.
