I find it interesting that they chose to do Sit Down Your Rockin The Boat for the Tony Award 2009 as they did the same number for the last revival.
I was wondering why the chose that over some of the other numbers from the show.
BTW I have been watching select moments from the Tony Awards on You Tube

It is also nice to Blue Gobo back on the web.
Now I hope the other people who own the copyright for the the remaining clips don't follow what the Sullivan people did. (Although I do understand why they did, but why did they took so long to do it?)

Good early morning, Michael S!
-
Good morning, all! Today I am back to the McGlinnventory. I guess the pushy office manager who was all for evicting us has calmed down although I hear we are being moved to another office. When I get back here later, I have to deal with more Moross scores.
Beyond that, we had a helluva storn last night with lots of really loud thunder and lightning. I slept very poorly through most of it. I haven't heard if there's any problem on the subways with flooding, but it could be a problem navigating my way to the East Side this morning.
TOD: I related it yesterday. My only memories of my mother's worst kitchen moments were the occasional explosion of the pressure cooker and the sound of the lid hitting the ceiling before the thud when it landed. Because my mother was insane, her cooking was either really good or really atrocious. I remember that I never knew cookies weren't necessarily burned to a crisp until I got into school and saw and tasted what other mothers baked.

The downpour has begun, It;s defnitely an umbrella day.

And the word of the day is: ANGUINE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: A SNAKE IN THE GRASS
-
I'm beginning to really understand that I have some real enemies or haters out there regarding my YouTube stuff.
I posted Skip's recording of the late great David Carroll singing TIME AND TIME AGAIN with Janie Smulyan on YouTube last night,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p28LS2ztGQo
and already someone's starting with the "one star" ratings to bring the rating down - and on Skip's song yet!
If you watch and listen and like it enough to be inclined to rate or comment, as always, it's very much appreciated!!!

Two big, bright blue eyes appeared on the side of my bed this morning. I have an energetic Dixie Bell, who is still hobbling - though at least she's putting some more pressure on that leg.
Thank you one and all for the most excellent and ongoing vibes.

Likewise, why did Legally Blonde decide to showcase the same number that was done two years ago on the awards broadcast?
It suddenly strikes me as funny that Legally Blonde has managed to get the same number featured on the Tonys in two different years despite the fact that it was never nominated as a Best Musical in the first place.

EXCELLENT VIBES FOR THE NEW KRITZERLAND SITE ;D ;D

REALLY HAPPY AND HEALTHY VIBES FOR THIS TUESDAY FOR US ALL :-* :-[

Off to work.

TOD:
Can't really think of any major kitchen disasters other than the time I made three lemon meringue pies (two to take to a dinner party and one for home) and later discovered that the lemon filling had separated in all of them. I had made lemon meringue before with no problems so I have no idea what went wrong. Had to throw all three away (after draining the liquids down the sink drain) and then scramble to a bakery to buy replacements for the dinner party.

That is basically what i meant. It's nothing against the guy who sang on the Tonys.
It's just that to me you want to show something that will get people wanting to see the show. I would have put something with the 4 leads.
I felt similarly about the number from SHREK. I would have rather seen a number with the leads. Although in certain situations i can see them doing a number to showcase someone who is nominated for a Tony. I just don't care for that SHREK number. And now i've seen it a few times!
-
GOOD MORNING, PAGE TWO!!!!
-
re: LEGALLY BLONDE. It is sort of odd to showcase the same number they've already shown. But i guess they feel that is the strongest number. To me i was just put off because of the lead.

So... Who else is using Safari 4 this morning?
-
Tuesday morning greetings! After some clutter-control and other puttering today, Richard and I are going to the library branch in Kettering to hear a program about Abraham Lincoln. I'm about 3/4 of the way through Mary, Mrs. A Lincoln, a wonderful novel by Janis Cooke Newman.

So... Who else is using Safari 4 this morning?
I hadn't yet received the software update notice, so just went looking for it. It's there, so I think I'll sign off, install, and be back.
Bye for now!
-
Beyond that, we had a helluva storn last night with lots of really loud thunder and lightning. I slept very poorly through most of it. I haven't heard if there's any problem on the subways with flooding, but it could be a problem navigating my way to the East Side this morning.
You can say that again! And it seems to that the thunder and lightning would start up every two to three hours. Consequently, I woke up and fell asleep every two to three hours. And I have a feeling I may be continuing that pattern as the day goes along.
-
Consequently, I woke up and fell asleep every two to three hours.
Me, too! :) Zach does not do very well with thunder.
-
OK, I'm back, now using Safari 4.0. The initial startup was...interesting.
-
The Singer KENNY RANKIN has died
I just read this on USA TODAY. What a shock!
-
I managed to get into the office right before the storms hit Philly this morning. It was very weird driving over the Ben Franklin Bridge into the coming darkness and seeing the lightning bolts arc the skies. Michaela Majoun on WXPN FM was saying that it looked like the end of the world and it did. Luckily, the brunt held off until I was in my office. I spent about a half hour just staring out my window--totaly dark until the lightning flashes. It's been a long time since we had somthing like that around here.
-
I thought the SHREK number was delightful, but I'm such a Chris Sieber fan that naturally I'd love it. It was mini-Liberace on steroids that made me laugh out loud.
-
I had planned to head downtown later today to check out the newly opened segment of The High Line (http://www.thehighline.org/), but since the rain is supposed to continue the rest of the day...
And I'm just waiting on word on what the the Rain Plan is for tonight's free Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma (http://www.lincolncenter.org/show_events_list.asp?eventcode=-66009) concert at Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center. The concert is schedule to be broadcast on PBS, but I have a feeling if the lightning continues they may end up moving it inside.
*Tonight is also the Museum Mile Festival (http://www.museummilefestival.org) where nine museums along Fifth Avenue will be Open and Free to the public. Hmmm... I wonder if it would be possible to actually hit all nine museums in three hours? Hmmm... ;)
-
Good morning!
Rain is in our forecast, but it doesn't look possible right now with blue skies and increasingly warm temperatures. Supposed to get up to 91 today.
-
I forgot to mention last night that I rewatched the Stanley Donen interview on TCM last night. I have it burned to a DVD-R somewhere in my archives, but since this didn't have commercials, it was very pleasant to just rewatch it "live" last night.
-
OK, I'm back, now using Safari 4.0. The initial startup was...interesting.
I haven't explored all the new features yet, but I have checked the breakdown on Apple's website to get an idea of what "new" I would like to use. I have a feeling that I won't be taking advantage of some of the new bells and whistles simply because I like to keep my web-browsing "simple".
-
Today for my work project, I begin on LOST - Season One on Blu-ray. Seasons 3 & 4 on Blu-ray were so dazzling that I'm sure these transfers will look equally gorgeous. I'm most excited, however, to relive the early years but this time KNOWING many secrets that at the time I wasn't privy to. SHould give those episodes an entirely different impact, and I just can't wait.
-
I'm also looking forward to watching KATHY GRIFFIN'S MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST while I eat lunch today since so many of you gave it thumbs up last night.
-
Speaking of storms, Richard informed me this morning that I slept through pretty severe thunder and lightening while he was still awake reading last night. Now, that's unusual.

TOD - the only kitchen disaster I have really had was when I put dishwashing liquid into the dishwasher.....do not do that!

I wonder if it would be possible to actually hit all nine museums in three hours? Hmmm... ;)
I'm sure that if anyone can do it, MONKEY can!!! :)

Titus Burgess is right for certain roles, and not so right for others - Nicely Nicely being one of them....as far as I am concerned.

The heavy machinery and the loud (really loud) yammering and hammering are back and therefore I am up about thirty minutes earlier than I needed to be. Go machinery and loud (really loud) yammering and hammering. Not.
-
Before I do the Safari update - what happens at the startup - I hate surprises.

I also won't do the update until Kritzerland is live and well and living on the Internet.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Let's see...
Adding double the amount of water to a chocolate cake recipe... Then just letting the cakes bake in the oven until they looked done, looked "right". Alas, they didn't taste right at all.
When I lived in Richmond, I had one stove that would randomly go into broiler mode every now and then. For some dishes, it wasn't such a big deal - baked chicken, roasted vegetables, etc. I just had to turn the oven off and start it back up again a few second laters. However, I remember baking a pound cake that called for starting off the baking in a cold oven. I put the filled cake pans in the oven, turned the oven on, then went into the other room to watch some TV... Then ran back into the kitchen a few minutes later when I smelled something burning. Thankfully, I was able to salvage the cakes by lifting off the "crust". So, I guess it wasn't much of a disaster after all. ;)
-
TOD - aside from the times our oven element caught fire (once for me, once for Richard), my worst kitchen disaster happened about 40 years ago at my sister's house. Her kids were little and she was working in a bank, so I baby sat during the day. My niece and nephew have birthdays just 5 days apart (Mark's was Sunday, Laura's is Friday), so about this time of year, I decided we'd make a double batch of cupcakes. I got a very full bowl of batter going on her mixer, with which I was unfamiliar, and it spun so fast the centrifugal force threw cupcake goo all over the ceiling before I could find the OFF switch. What a mess!

Would a Safari Update be available on MY G4?
Only if you're running "Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.7 or Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Security Update 2009-002".

RE: Safari 4 - I was sort of surprised at how "small" an update it was considering how many new features it adds to the browser.
-
I think I have 10.4.11.....I shall go check
-
My problems with SHREK and with Titus Burgess:
It's one thing to slavishly recreate the physical aspects of a movie into a theatrical production--it's another for the actors to have to rip off the performances of the original voice actors. During that number on the Tonys all I could hear was John Lithgow. In fact, in the dialogue before the number, Christopher Sieber imitates Lithgow's line readings inflection by inflection. The same goes for the actors playing Shrek and the donkey. I'm not blaming the performers because I'm betting that this direction was imposed on them (and more than likely, the director had that pushed on him, as well.)
I can't shake the feeling that Titus Burgess was cast as Nicely-Nicely solely to do that soul Gospel riff at the end of "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat". I'm sure he is a talented performer, but I got nothing from him in this number. Of course, he was undone by the dull staging and the way that that heavenly projection in the background overwhelmed everything on the stage. And for better or not, Mary Testa was the only moment for me that woke the number up.
-
I have two kitchen stories. One is exactly like elmore's - boiling eggs, forgetting I was boiling eggs, leaving, and coming back to a kitchen filled with egg droppings everywhere - I think it was in an apartment and I think I moved rather than clean it up :)
Kitchen story two was an apartment in college - I couldn't get the damn stove to light so I took a match and lit it, after unfortunately leaving the gas on too long. There was a burst of flame that singed my eyebrows and the front of my hair and lit the curtains on fire. I got everything doused, but I had very peculiar-looking eyebrows, let me tell you that.
-
I know webguy and gal were supposed to be on the phone at eight - wonder what's happening?
-
Well, what's happening is there's no site at all at the moment - something I was hoping would not happen at all - I think the idea was one site was taken down and another put up without any down time, but maybe that wasn't possible. Hopefully it will be up soon. I'm sure if there's a problem I'll hear about it momentarily, but I'm hoping it's just the switchover happening.

Thanks for this link, DR Jose! It enabled me to find how to customize the toolbar.
BK - the only thing I'm having trouble with is that they've moved the Refresh to the right-hand end of the address line and I'm used to it being on the left. Won't take long to adapt, I'm sure.
-
I can't think of a really bad kitchen disaster, but I'll certainly report back later if I think of one.
I know I came close to a disaster when returning one summer from a trip to NYC, two days after I got back, the waterline leading to my refrigerator's ice maker sprang a leak. If it had happened when I had been in NYC, it would have been a disaster. Since I was there when it happened, it was easy to just turn off the water valve.

It suddenly strikes me as funny that Legally Blonde has managed to get the same number featured on the Tonys in two different years despite the fact that it was never nominated as a Best Musical in the first place.
I think the reason "they" chose to perform "So Much Better" from Legally Blonde - as well as "Dancing Queen", "Sit Down Your Rockin' The Boat" and even the Jersey Boys medley - is that those songs are the "Greatest Hits". If Wicked had been featured, I have a feeling "Defying Gravity" would have been performed again too. (And I would not have minded seeing that again.)
Some people don't mind seeing - and hearing - the same songs over and over again. -How many YouTube clips have you watched more than once? Additionally, I'm sure that there was a good chunk - well, maybe a small chunk - of the viewing audience that hadn't seen those numbers before. -I've actually missed the previous televised performances of "What's Up, Duloc?" from Shrek. However...
I think both "Dancing Queen" and "So Much Better" were not well-served by the staging - having the soloist(s) out on the dais, and the rest of the company back on the stage. Just too much "space".
bk - The key for "Dancing Queen" has always been that "low" - lots of mixing, no belt. It's not meant to be a "show-off" number in the show - it's a fun, friendly, "girl power", woman-bonding number. In the show proper, it's sung in the bedroom (like it was in the movie), and in the curtain call it's meant to feature the spandex. ;) The curtain call version of "Waterloo" would have had more energy.

While I prepare food for consumption by Anthony and me I don't consider myself a cook and I really don't "like" cooking. If I could take a pill or have an operation or make one of the three wishes from the Good Fairy so that I would never have to eat anything again for the rest of my life I would do it without looking back. While I certainly enjoy food and love having dinner with friends, the idea that I must eat or I will die, plus the whole geo-politcal issue of food and hunger annoys me no end. It's food but it is in many ways, life and death. If you don't eat you die. That is so wrong. I know that's not the topic of the day but since I have no kitchen disasters I thought I would add my two cents about food in the circle of life.
-
Also, I am SO FRIGGIN' BUSY at work that I haven't had much time to mention the Tonys. Perhaps this weekend.

Thanks for posting that, DR Dan (the Man). The "commercial breaks" in the theatre are my favorite part. Hopefully, more of them will pop up as the week goes by. Although, I'm guessing if Seth Rudetsky put together some bits, they're probably on his website already.
-
There was VERY little entertainment during the commercial breaks. It was a disappointment. There were teasers for Spiderman and some other shows and old commericals for Hair, West Side Story and Timbuktu but very little else.
-
I just went to www.kritzerland.com and guess what I found?
Looks good!
I'm guessing the answer is "Yes" to this question, but...
Is there supposed to be a difference between what is displayed on:
http://www.kritzerland.com/
vs.
http://www.kritzerland.com/home.htm (which is only accessible/viewable if you click back to the "Home" page)?
*I really like the different banners too.

Oh, that's weird. Not even one of Seth Rudetsky's brief "deconstructing" bits? I thought the [title of show] folks were supposed to have filmed something. Guess not.

DR JoseSPiano, thanks for the heads up on Safari 4. I had not heard about the update.

They may have filmed something but like other things (the Jerry Herman medley) it could have been cut even though it was only for "in-house" viewing.

Sort of like DR elmore3003's VCR.

You're welcome, DR DAW. It was sort of "quietly" released yesterday in conjunction with the WWDC Keynote Address (where the new MacBooks and iPhone were unveiled). It's been in Beta testing since the end of February, and went public yesterday. It's basically a preview of what's to come in Mac OS X Snow Leopard coming later this year - and for only $29!
*Can you tell I've been hanging out with a couple of Mac Geniuses lately? ;)

I may update my Safari as well...although I am still trying to figure out how Safari magically appeared on my computer one day? I never downloaded it, to my knowledge.
Do you have a Mac or a PC? If you have a Mac, it's part of the OS, so it's automatically included. If you have a PC, it may have downloaded if you downloaded iTunes. Maybe. ???
-
Jose, yes, the home page is different than the page you see when you first log on - different album covers, and those will revolve. I actually wanted to switch out a couple of them for the launch, but Doug was just too overwhelmed to do it - so in the next few weeks those covers will change to others, and then once every few weeks that will happen.
-
Guess I'll do the update now, then jog. I've addressed about half the packages so far and need a break. It's pretty gray out.

Do you/Does Doug have a "randomizer" plug-in for the cover art?
-
Awww.... More Adam Lambert (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20284065,00.html) stuff...
Lambert, who says he was worried about coming out on American Idol because it would be "so sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing," admits to having a crush on the his roommate and Idol winner Kris Allen.
"I was like, 'Oh, s–, they put me with the cute guy,' " Lambert recalls of bunking in the Idol mansion with Allen. "Distracting! He's the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type – except that he has a wife. I mean, he's open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100 percent straight."
-
Hmmm.. John Rubenstein is on "The Young & The Restless"...

That was among my suggestions! :)

Back from the long jog and must finish addressing packages.

I like the new Kritzerland site, too. It's not as showy as the other but it's a lot faster and a lot easier to navigate and intuitive in general.

Holy crap--another HUGE storm heading for Philly. And it looks like it will hit about the same time I'll be leaving for the day.

Guys & Dolls to Close June 14 (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/130070-Adelaide%27s_New_Lament_Broadway%27s_Guys_and_Dolls_to_Close_June_14)
This REALLY surprises me. I thought GUYS & DOLLS was doing very well! Not SRO but better than lots of shows still running.
-
I did turn my AC on, and it has been clicking on and off all afternoon. It's hot and rather stifling here.
-
I watched MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST while I ate lunch. Very funny and very ambitious start to the season. I mean, when you start off with Bette Midler, where can you go? All the Grammy stuff was funny.
-
Then I started on LOST - Season 1 on Blu-ray. Suffice to say it looks and sounds movie-like. Looking at this in high definition, you'd never, EVER suspect it was a television series. The visual and sound opulence is astounding.
It is very moving rewatching these episodes with characters like Shannon, Boone, Charlie, Michael all very importaant characters in season one and realizing what's to come for them.
This is one truly brilliant show, and it's EASY to see why the first season won the Emmy for Best Drama Series. There's really never been anything remotely like this on television.
-
I listened to parts of the commentaries with the two part pilot episode. J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Bryan Burk do the talking, and they have some funny stories to relate.
Unlike previous Blu-ray editions, though, this one lacks an insert card giving details on the episodes, which ones have commentaries, etc.
-
I got three full episodes watched and am about halfway through episode #4 - "Walkabout" which gave our first pertinent information on John Locke. It's an amazing episode.
-
I suspect I'll just stick with LOST all afternoon and evening. The only thing I have that's coming on tonight is RESCUE ME, and I'll record it and watch it tomorrow during lunch.
Hopefully I'll get at least half of the episodes done by this evening.

Well... Their advance was "not so hot". Apparently, a couple of other shows have "not-so-hot" advances, so... -And I suspect that since Oliver Platt, Craig Bierko and Lauren Graham were only signed up for a six-month contract... Better to let them go now, instead of having to release them for television and movie obligations. ???

I feel sure they are, but (I don't know if this happens on the DVD) sometimes during the commentary the show pauses and the disc branches into a behind-the-scenes featurette showing something special about a particular moment during filming (an effects shot that doesn't go right, etc.) Very impressive use of branching.

TOD - the only kitchen disaster I have really had was when I put dishwashing liquid into the dishwasher.....do not do that!
My dad once put dishwashing liquid in the washing machine. He then learned why laundry detergent always says "low suds" on the bottle.
My worst kitchen disaster was due to pure stupidity on my part. I had never had a nice cook top with a built-in griddle for making pancakes and things of that sort. I turned it on, oiled the griddle, spooned on some pancake batter, and began cooking. I did notice that it seemed that the griddle was taking a long time to get hot. My husband (at the time) emerged and completely flipped out when he saw that I deglected to remove the stainless steel cover first. The cover was warped/bent and badly stained, but once it cooled down, it snapped right back into it's original shape, I cleaned it with Ajax, and it was as good as new. I lucked out on that one.

Now that I am caught up, I can pick on BK.
From the notes:
...and then I got on the freeway only to find bumper to bumper traffic for the next three miles or so – two right lanes closed for freeway work – work that was not in evidence – the only thing in evidence was two closed lanes and a lot of unnecessary traffic, thanks to the usual inept planning of the city. Go city. Not.
BK: your aim is off. The "city" has no control over Freeway closures - they are the province of CALTRANS, a state organization. When freeway work is scheduled over a period of time, it is more cost effective to close the affected lanes for the duration than to try and open and close them to adjust to schedule gaps.

Warning - panic ahead:
ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,525579,00.html)
WHO MAY DECLARE FIRST PANDEMIC IN 41 YEARS
GENEVA — The World Health Organization said Tuesday a spike in swine flu cases in Australia may push it to finally announce the first flu pandemic in 41 years.
…
WHO's flu chief Keiji Fukuda said the agency wanted to avoid "adverse effects" if it announces a global outbreak of swine flu. Fukuda said people might panic or that governments might take inappropriate actions if WHO declares a pandemic.
Some flu experts think the world already is in a pandemic and that WHO has caved in to country requests that a declaration be postponed.
"On the surface of it, I think we are in phase 6," or a pandemic, said Margaret Chan, WHO's director-general.
…
If the swine flu virus were to be shown to be spreading rapidly from person to person in another world region beyond North America, such as Australia or Europe, that should trigger the conditions for WHO to declare a pandemic, meaning the outbreak has gone global.
…
In today's world of international air travel, every new airborne pathogen whose contagious period includes a non-symptomatic phase will result in a pandemic - get used to it!

And all I can think how awful those producers were of Grand Hotel putting off recording the cast album until Mr. Carroll on was literally on death's door step. They brought him in to record his parts with a piano and collapsed before he was able to record anything.

Cast Aside
Despite a Smaller Role in Culture, The Show Goes On For Broadway Albums
By Peter Marks
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, June 7, 2009
Just as the Broadway musical has been pushed to the sidelines by other forms of mainstream American entertainment, so has the Broadway cast album declined as a cultural force. It still has important functions: as a marketing tool, a historical document, a memento of an evening to be cherished.
But as a vital facet of the recording industry, those who make the records say, the cast album is in a precarious state. Buffeted by high production costs, the ever-widening problem of piracy and a reluctance by established record companies to produce CDs for many shows, the cast album seems to survive today largely on the will of a few people determined to keep show music enshrined.
No one is saying, of course, that the recordings will disappear. Yet more and more, the question of whether the songs from a musical you like will find their way into recorded immortality is coming down to the taste and business acumen of a few entrepreneurs and producers who have a special passion for theater music.
"The whole business model has altered," says Kurt Deutsch, a onetime actor -- married to the Broadway musical actress Sherie Rene Scott -- who runs nine-year-old Sh-K-Boom Records and its spinoff label, Ghostlight. "The music industry has changed so drastically, even from the time I started my company. I had no background in the music industry. And so all of this has been done out of the need to preserve and salvage, out of the love for what Sherie and I do."
…
Once a recording industry staple, the kind of project that might be scooped up willy-nilly by a Columbia Records or an RCA, the Broadway cast album has become more like an exotic dessert, a niche venture taken on at great risk and with not much hope of a substantial payday.
…
Broadway is not viewed as musically relevant "The general public doesn't necessarily buy into the Broadway mainstream," says Deutsch, whose firm, along with PS Classics, is in the vanguard of the small labels focusing on theater music. (Full disclosure: I contributed liner notes -- gratis -- a few years ago for Ghostlight's CD of the musical version of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.")
Some musicals, like last spring's short-lived "Cry-Baby," for instance, do not even make a recording. The current revival of "Guys and Dolls" with Craig Bierko and Lauren Graham -- up for a nomination for best musical revival at tonight's Tony Awards (CBS at 8) -- apparently will leave town, too, without a disc of its own.
With the expense of producing a cast album so exorbitant -- a big show can cost as much as $400,000 to record these days -- the concern increasingly is not only finding someone to foot the bill, but also determining whether it's worth making a recording at all.
The nuts-and-bolts aspects of making cast albums have become more difficult, too, because New York's large recording studios, with enough space for a sizable cast and big orchestra, have closed: Film-score recording is now virtually all done in Los Angeles and London, says Bill Rosenfield, a former BMG executive who now consults on cast albums. "When we recently did 'Hair,' we had actors in one room, musicians in another, the control in a third," he says. "It was not a happy way to make an album."
I suspect this article could have been enriched by an interview with BK

I find it interesting that they chose to do Sit Down Your Rockin The Boat for the Tony Award 2009 as they did the same number for the last revival.
I was wondering why the chose that over some of the other numbers from the show.
BTW I have been watching select moments from the Tony Awards on You Tube
Likewise, why did Legally Blonde decide to showcase the same number that was done two years ago on the awards broadcast?
It suddenly strikes me as funny that Legally Blonde has managed to get the same number featured on the Tonys in two different years despite the fact that it was never nominated as a Best Musical in the first place.
I enjoyed So Much Better and Dancing Queen and I love the song Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat. I don't think the singers were the strongest I've heard, but I'm not clear that they could hear the band that well.
-

I was wondering why the chose that over some of the other numbers from the show.
That is basically what i meant. It's nothing against the guy who sang on the Tonys.
It's just that to me you want to show something that will get people wanting to see the show. I would have put something with the 4 leads. .....
The two numbers Der Brucer can think of from Guys and Dolls that stand out other than "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" are "Adelaide's Lament" (a solo) and "Take Back Your Mink" (which is for Adelaide and the chorus girls). There really isn't anything for Sky or Sarah or Nathan that stands out in the same way. Maybe "Marry the Man Today," but it's Nicely Nicely's number that most lends itself to a featured presentation on the televised Tonys.
Interestingly, another Frank Loesser musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, has a similarly placed, rousing number towards the end of the show, "The Brotherhood of Men." When H2S had it's revival a few years ago, what number did they pick to represent the show? "Brotherhood of Men."
Most Happy Fella doesn't have a number like it. I can't remember what they used on the Tonys when that show was revived.

I'm back from an exhausting day and am ready to hit the couch just because I need to hit something. Rehearsal was fun and I really like our mighty ensemble. We didn't quite get through all the music but we're sending them mp3s so they can learn it from there. I did pick up a few packages at the mail place and I did finish addressing all the packages and postage is being affixed - some this morning, and some tomorrow afternoon. We should be able to get all the CDs shipped Thursday morning.

Kitichen disasters?
My most recent involved bread.
Dad and Stepmom had told us they would be arriving Wednesday (last week), so I decided it would be great to bake a fresh loaf of bread (or two). I got the bread started, and left it to rise while I went to the store for other stuff for our dinner that night.
I'm in line to check out when der B shows up... out of breath. "You forgot to leave the car keys on the shelf!" he finally grumbles. "And your Dad is here!"
A day early.
Well, that's a double oops.
Der B and I hoof it back home, get cleaned up a bit, and get ahold of Dad and Stepmom. A very good evening was had by all.
Until we get home again. The dough is in it's bowl, sulking. "You left me all alone, and now I'm too tired to rise again after you punch me down." And when I did punch it down, it blew a raspberry at me.
The resulting loaves were... well, they loafed. They were dense, and grumpy, and not something I could give my family. Dad and Paulann never did get any bread from me. I threw it out for the birds instead.
-
No one interviews me about cast albums - why would they? I only brought their popularity back after many years of dormancy. The article, funnily, says nothing about how cast albums are funded today - not by the record labels but by the producers of the shows.

I lvoed the SHREK number, but then I really like Christopher Sieber.

Chicken Failure may have been my best kitchen disaster.
-
I have watched a few of the show clips on youtube, and I have to say that none of them thrilled me.
-
Some cast albums cost that much, others less so - it depends on a lot of factors. King and I was the most expensive thing Varese had or has done - $250,000 (with NO producer fee for me). Some of the revivals are less because there is no re-use on the orchestrations, no copyist reuse either (if they've been recorded before that fee has been paid and is only payable one time) - so Dolly was a good 100K cheaper than King and I.
-
I also save quite a bit in post-production because, and I say this with no ego, I know what I'm doing. I don't need two or three weeks to do a mix, I need four days, maybe five.
-
I'm on the couch like so much fish, watching a motion picture, and absolutely astonishing-looking Blu-Ray, maybe the best I've seen, certainly up there with the best I've seen.

I had the sliding glass door open this afternoon because Nicky likes to go sit out on the balcony on warm days. Naturally, when I wasn't paying attention this huge yellow-jacket flew into the living room. I couldn't get i=him to migrate back towards the slider, instead he decided he liked the screened window in the dining room. After an hour of trying to get him away from there, I finally gave up and slid the window closed so that he is now trapped for the rest of his life, between the window and the screen.
I have named him Vanzetti.

If you start with the actor's compensation which is usually equivalent to two weeks pay, for a cast of 25:
25 x $1558 (current AEA minimum) x 2 = $77,900
-And that does not take into account any special, negotiated salaries.
The musician's rate is almost the same.
Then factor in the studio rental, the fees for the recording personnel, post-production, packaging, marketing, etc., etc., etc.
It does add up after a while.

... so Dolly was a good 100K cheaper than King and I.
And wasn't Carol worth every extra cent?
-
My worst kitchen disaster was a few years ago...we were having a spaghetti feed fund raiser here at work, and I volunteered to be one of the people to cook the actual spaghetti. The way I was told to do it was the night before to cook the pasta with a touch of oil for a few minutes (I forget exactly how long...it was a specific length of time...keep it VERY al dente) and then to run cold water over it to stop the cooking and put the pasta in plastic bags in the fridge overnight. The moisture would be absorbed into the spaghetti and all we would have to do the next day would be to plunge it into boiling water for a minute or two to heat it all up and it would be very quick.
Well, for my first batch, I used my fairly new (and not too cheap) ceramic covered pot, but I put in way too much pasta for the size of pot that I had and I didn't stir it enough and I had the heat up too high. The pasta at the bottom of the pot BURNED and stuck to the bottom of the pot AND the pot melted onto the stove element!! I had to yank that pot off the element before it totally melted through. It was late at night (as usual for me) and I was totally frazzled. I thought that the non-burned pasta might be good, but it all tasted like crap. Fortunately, I had another pot and too much pasta than what we really would need (being only one of several people making the pasta) that I was able to make the amount that I said that I could and the spaghetti feast fund raiser was a success. I did have to through out the pot and a whole box of burned spaghetti, but I didn't have to get a new stove element.

And now, it's time for rehearsal!
Until later!

DR George - The pot melted?!?!?!? I didn't think that a ceramic pot could melt. Or did you heat up enough that it was like putting it in a kiln? ;)

Did the Safari update and so far see nothing different. How do you get these whizbang new features?
-
The software update also included another nine items, including yet another version of iTunes, which seems to have a new version ever two weeks.
-
I am glad that I was able to get the 11 episodes of LOST watched that I scheduled to do for today. But even if I get 11 done tomorrow, I still won't be able to finish the set, so it's going to take me three days to get through this one. (There are hours of bonus features, too).

Yep, there was a batch of iLife updates that came out last week.
As for Safari 4 - Do you see a grid in your Bookmarks bar? If so, click it... ;)
And for more info, here's the link to Apple's website explaining the new features: http://www.apple.com/safari/

I think my biggest kitchen disaster was probably the birthday cake I made for my best friend when i was in high school. it was intended to be a surprise and I was going to make a layer cake for the first time. I don't remember if the cake wasn't done in the middle or if it stuck to the pan, but it ended up being a big pile of crumbled up cake. So I poured frosting over the top. She laughed and laughed and laughed. It didn't really look edible and I can't remember if we ate it or just went out and bought a new one

Can't say I'm surprised about the cast album situation. And I'm as much to blame for sliding popularity as anyone. I used to be in a fever to buy all of the latest cast albums. Now, there are quite a few I don't even bother to buy.
-
The LOST episodes contain sequences I don't remember at all (the business with Sawyer getting stabbed by Said), and yet other things like the John Locke flashback episode I remembered as clear as anything. I've just gotten to the episode where Claire is kidnapped. Very exciting. Locke and Boone have just stumbled on a hatch opening. I didn't remember that either.
-
Oh, and DR DAW, some of these commentaries are new. In the last one I listened to, the producers mentioned that they were recording it prior to the start of the show's last season, so this was just recently recorded.
-
The island vistas on the Blu-rays are so breathtaking that they're staggering to behold. The series, besides being exciting and mysterious and thrilling, is also such tremendous eye candy that it's pure pleasure - every single episode.
-
Well, I want to write just a bit more and then head downstairs so I can go to bed.
Good night!
-
I'm more than a little ticked right now.
The pasta machine we bought just a few weeks ago? It's totally jammed, won't crank.
The good news is that I'd been planning to do papardelle tonight, which worked fine when I hand-rolled the pasta dough. But that extra kneeding that the machine would have done on the dough was missing - der B was right when he commented about how chewy the papardelle was. (He really liked the grape tomato/spring onion jam I'd done as the sauce, which helped.)
Kitchen disaster? Not quite - but close.
No more fresh pasta until I can get a better machine. Insert raspberry here.
And with that, I've a very early wake-up tomorrow, so I'd better follow Matt's example and get out of here.
Hasta!
-
DR SWW - What kind of machine did you get?

Pertinent to absolutely nothing, I counted 23 drops of rain on my windshield today-- a regular gully washer.

I always thought a 2 inch rain in Phoenix was when two rain drops fell two inches apart

The most shocking thing on the new Kritzerland website ;)
Are you following us on Twitter?

I have suddenly come down with a stomach ache. Great, just what I need. It may be from the very hot radishes that I got out of the garden, but whatever it is, it's unpleasant. So I need to find something to make it go away and try to get some sleep. Tomorrow is another busy day.

Just finished another Bollywood movie...I am on vacation this week and am trying to watch at least one Hindi film a day...or more...tonight's was a 1980s type teen slasher film, but made in 2003 and titled KUCCH TO HAI.
I you liked films such as SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE and FINAL EXAM, you would like KUCCH TO HAI...and it actually scared me several times...however, it was one of those in which you can't wait until the annoying characters get done-away-with.
...the musical numbers, of which there were plenty, were lots of fun..for instance check out this number....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRBSSwVF9NQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRBSSwVF9NQ)

Hello everyone.
Just wanted to say hi.
Really exhausted, too old for this by myself, my dad was a bit of a pack rat. I can see I'm going to have to take some days off of work to get it all done by the end of the month.
-
Kritzerland Records looks good.
I wish I had the time to read all the posts, maybe I'll be able to catch up this weekend.
Really happy and healthy and wise vibes for us all for a beautiful Wednesday.
Good night.

Did the Safari update and so far see nothing different. How do you get these whizbang new features?
Did you restart your computer?
The updates required a restart, so yes. How do I see these new whizbang features was the question. The only thing new I saw was a little Apple trailer when I first logged on (and then Safari froze and I had to relaunch it) and the new right side loading thing. Everything else looks the same and I went into options to see if there was anything there but couldn't find it.
-
How do I set up a Kritzerland on Twitter that's not the same as BK on Twitter - or whatever I am on Twitter.
-
- or whatever I am on Twitter.
Nah, too easy!

-
Twitter.....I don't know. I am on it, but I am only following DR JOSE and DR GINNY....and I don't do that very much, because I don't know how.
-
I am up late because I had to send some photos to some guy who contacted me in May - and who then has NEVER answered any emails or phone calls about what or when....and then I get an email saying It's Today!
DR FJL - YW.
-
And now I really am going to bed.

DR George - The pot melted?!?!?!? I didn't think that a ceramic pot could melt. Or did you heat up enough that it was like putting it in a kiln? ;)
You're right...ceramic wasn't right...but it was metal with some kind of coating and that melted. It was not pleasant. :-\

George should be through rehearsing - perhaps he's out canoodling?
der Brucer
The rehearsing is done with...and so is the canoodling. ;)
