Oy! The craziness has begun at my office (as if there wasn't enough craziness).
There has been some construction (I'm fine with that since it's not near me and doesn't affect my work). Now that the construction is near completion the carpet on the 3rd Floor is being replaced. It does need to be replaced, it's been 11 years with heavy foot traffic and a slob or two so that's not the craziness. Since we live in a cubicle world all the cubicles have to be un-assembled so the carpet can be torn up and replaced and then the cubicles have to be re-assembled. This entire process will take weeks and will be done in shifts. They have moved a portion of the third floor to various spaces and they will be gone for the next two weeks (at the very least). I looked at some of the work spaces and it's a Human Resources nightmare!
We have a conference room with a long table. I've been in the room for presentations and meetings and when it's full it gets warm (even with air conditioning). When it's full to overflowing with 15 people AND their computers AND some people use TWO monitors it's scary. They have taken over another smaller meeting room that is crowded when 4 people are in there with just a table and chairs. There are now 6-8 people in there with computers, monitors, tables and chairs. UGH!
I don't know when I'll be moved or where I'll be moved but I'm planning on asking my supervisor's supervisor if I can work from home. I have high speed and if I have a meeting I can be here in 5 minutes.
99 percent of the people I work with are lovely and wonderful but there are one or two with whom I would rather not be sequestered. It reminds me of a lifeboat and someone may go overboard. It ain't gonna be me!

Music and Video Watch
Nothing planned, but I have been revisiting some Varese/Other Label from the past and they are still enjoyable to listen to.

Thank you, Laura and Michael

We have no viewing plans tonight. We will go to dinner, probably at East of Eighth and then tomorrow we may visit the new J.C. Penney at the Manhattan Mall on 32nd Street and 6th Avenue.

It was great fun to see Harvey Girls on the big screen. Brini is not the same kind of host as Hedda but she still provided a fun start to the evening.
In the Waltz scene I noticed that Judy was the only one with cleavage! Our Judy, with cleavage. Oh, My!

I hope that JR's opening went smoothly. I hope his Carol Channing look-a-likes were properly made up and I hope he is (deservedly) resting until the next foray into theatrical production.

My work project today will be the Blu-ray release of HANNAH MONTANA: THE MOVIE. I'm not a viewer of the series, but I gleaned enough about the character from her concert film last year, so I hope I won't feel hopelessly lost once the movie starts.
There are a fair number of bonus features, so I don't know if I'll be able to finish the entire disc this afternoon or need some time this evening to complete work on it.

I don't have PAN'S LABYRINTH on Blu-ray, but I did watch it on HBO-HD when it was first broadcast, and I found the violence shocking and off-putting. Part of that was likely my own fault for not knowing more about the film before watching it. Knowing it was a fantasy, I had no idea that violent politics was going to play such a heavy part in the story.

Good morning, all!
I'm feeling a bit ragged this morning; last night I slept with the aid of no Tylenol PM, muscle relaxer or pain medication. I slept fitfully, but I did sleep rather well from 11 pm to 8:15 this morning. My ankle is killing me at the moment, and I shall soon run for the Vicodin because I have laundry to deal with this morning. I'm thinking that I shall take it easy today and not leave the apartment unless necessary. Because I'm accomplishing very little at the moment, I'm making no money and I am up to my ass in debt, so I need to finish the Loesser score ASAP to make room for next week's Brent Barret work and more of Moross' GENTLEMEN BE SEATED. I brought home yesterday one chart to proof for LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40, and that's my weekend until Sunday, which is a rather manic day in which I need to be out and about.
DR vixmom, I would love to see you! I'm hoping when BK is in, I'm moving around better than I currently am!
DR Ginny, what's the state of the post-operation John?
DR JRAND58, we're waiting for the opening night post mortem!
Is today the DVD-CD day?
DVD: Two Netflix BBC thrillers, IM WEISSEN ROSSL
CD: Guy Haines, who always cheers me up, Liz Callaway, Jacques Offenbach imports from Amazon.fr
VCR: Not tonight, Josephine!
-
Happy Anniversary to Ben and Ant.
-
Thank you all for the kind wishes on our anniversary!
-
We have a copy of A Child is Waiting on VHS (remember those?). Perhaps we will watch it this weekend.
-
I've really got nothing new to watch on DVD this weekend, so I'll probably some titles out of my already huge collection and look at them again.
-
Friday morning greetings! Waiting on a call back from the doctor's office about which cholesterol medication we're going to try next. In the meantime, I'm going to make a pie with the fresh Michigan blueberries we found yesterday at the market for a very reasonable price.
-
Happiest of anniversaries to DR Ben and his ever-lovin' Anthony!
-
Thank you all for the kind wishes on our anniversary!
Ben! I forgot! I am so worried all these health and mental lapses are a foreshadowing of a really grisly old age!
Happy anniversary! I look forward to seeing both of you.
-
DR Elmore - thanks for asking about John. As of late yesterday afternoon, there was no real change in his condition. The procedures he had yesterday morning were not expected to have any effect other than to allow him to convalesce without permanent damage to his esophagus. We are on a very steep learning curve here.
-
I forgot to mention it as well!
Happy Anniversary, DR Ben!!!
-
I guess I'll head down now and try to take a little quick nap before cleaning up to go out on my errands.

Good Morning, That 7 minutes of rain we had yesterday morning must have tricked the weather because we have a cool spell coming over the weekend. It's now only 86 which is 10 to 15 degrees cooler than it has been at this time of day (7:00 am) for the last week or two. I had better go outside before it gets hot.

First-- a very happy anniversary to Dear Ben and Ant!!!
-
I just saw my wonderful neighbor Alice while I was putting my things in the dryer. She's been slipping notes under my door checking on me. She's 74, planning a vacation and I should have had her energy and health at 50!
-
I just called my doctor to giver her my current status and concerns, and she's on vacation till August 24! What a load of crap.
I guess, if I run out of meds, I'll have to make an emergency visit to see her standin.

Happy Anniversary to DR BEN and ANTHONY!

Thanks to everyone. We had a fine opening night. Everyone was very good, although there were some things happening that NEVER happened before.
The Innkeeper fell on a backstage ramp that he has gone up and down many times. He then promptly forgot the lines to the third verse of KNIGHT OF THE WOEFUL COUNTENANCE so he made up his own words. They were not nearly as good as Joe Darion's lyrics.
Maria the Innkeeper's wife and The Padre made a surprise guest appearance in Don Quixote's life speech scene.
The Barber, who is also a Muleteer, got bopped in the head by one of the other Muleteers during the DULCINEA reprise, but he recovered.
The audience did stand up for us....the first opening night standing ovation this season. And the cast ate almost 100 pieces of candy out of the bucket I brought - so I had to buy some more today.
And tonight, probably a sold out house.....and more MISADVENTURES!

TOD:
CD - John Wiliams Spanish Classical Guitar. This is our preshow musical, and while it is NOT completely accurate time wise, there are some lovely songs on it.
DVD - Like DR DtM, The Lucy Show - with the original openings and commercials on many shows. If the show did not reach I LOVE LUCY status - it was close. I really hate the men they paired Lucy and Viv with, really no sparks there. And the constant bickering with Mr Barnsdahl (Charles Lane) and later Mr Mooney (Gale Gordon in later seasons) was just repetitive and annoying. I like Gale Gordon MUCH better as Mr. Conklin.
BUT three of the episodes for me are classic Lucy/Viv physical comedy.....Lucy & Viv Put Uo a TV Antenna, Lucy & Viv Install a Shower. and Lucy & Viv Are Volunteer Firemen. I don't think anyone today - not even Debra Messing - could do the same things with the same resultant hilarity.
-
As for the Ray Bolger discussion - I have never met him, and stories here yesterday point to his pleasant personality in person - but he is just so............plain.....for a movie star. And most of his dancing looks the same to me. I won't repeat here again what Judy Garland said about that.
-
DR JRand58 - glad that opening night went reasonably well. Are you performing the show with or without an intermission, and if so, where have you inserted it?
-
I'm up, have already done an errand, will go jog in about ten minutes, will go ship the last of the packages for The Apartment, and then I will await the gentleman who's picking up the tapes.

Ain't that right!
So far, the only adult male presense on the show I like is Dick Martin. Charles Lane is Charles Lane but I prefer Gale Gordon's Mr. Mooney (have to wait till season 2 for him, I think.)
Also, I've noticed how bright and cheery and breezy Vivian Vance was in the first couple of episodes but then she seemed to have gone through a tough spell where she looked tired and drawn for a time. Maybe she was starting to realize the show was a hit and that she was going to be tied to it (and the work) for the next couple of years.

Yup Dick Martin is the one I like, but there isn't much chemistry with Lucy. And I think Vivian had moved to Connecticut was commuting to the do show, staying in Lucy's guest house when the show was in production. So she never really got "away" from Lucy for those months....and of course she had married John Dodds (whose name was used as a senator in "Volunteer Firemen") and he worked in NYC as an editor for G P Putnam, and the separation was not fun for her.

There must have been something in the air, JR. Roger (as Hitler) went up last night, which he has never done before. In that middle section before his little monologue, he sang this:
Where or where was he
Where or where was me
I looked around, and never found
Oh what a mystery
It was very hard for me not to burst out laughing, especially since he's basically half in the pit there (his legs anyway).

BK, if they're upping your fee by $1000, why not just charge $1-2 more for a 2 disc set. I'm sure everyone would pay that, you'd cover your costs (and perhaps eke out a little profit), and that's that.

I just walked to the corner market and back with no crutches, but I think I should have taken one of them. I learned yesterday that taking both was not a smart move

Good Afternoon!
I LOVED "Julie & Julia". And, yes, I cried. A couple of times. The Food was amazing, but the Love Stories were even better. And since a good chunk of it was set in NYC, I loved seeing some very familiar sights. Bur what really made me tear up was seeing some dear friends and colleagues on screen - Congratulations to them (too)!!

It's chaotic here today. I overslept, the cleaning lady (who I don't like!) is here, and the usual quiet, which I so love and thrive on, is missing! Calm, Jeanne, calm.

I did not have an opportunity to check in to HHW yesterday and I missed TD's birthday!! So here is my belated wish for a splendid birthday Mr. TD!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO BEN & ANT! Here's to many, many more!
-
Congrats to JRand for a successful, albeit "interesting", opening night.

I've been interested to observe the effects of Wednesday's eclipse. I had the worst day I've had in a long time--nothing went right. Yesterday, on my weekly trek to Beverly Hills, I observed the aftermath of several vehicular smash-ups. Now the posts relate theatrical aberrations. And JRand says to watch out this weekend! OK! I get it!

I've loved Michael Emerson since he first appeared. I think his performance is inspired, and down through the seasons, he actually keeps viewers guessing about his motivations, his sincerity, etc. To be honest, the year Terry O'Quinn won the Emmy (season 3), I thought Michael should have won that year (he was nominated as was Naveen Andrews who plays Said).
-
While I ate lunch today, I watched last night's ROYAL PAINS. As usual, Evan was a major pain in the butt, but otherwise, I enjoyed the episode. I like the ex-husband coming into the story. That should make for some interesting situations.
-
Then I settled in with today's work project, HANNAH MONTANA: THE MOVIE. TYpical Disney fluff (G-rated, of course) with lots of slapstick, romantic misunderstandings and then a happy ending. Film-by-numbers moviemaking, but there were a couple of good tunes (I really liked "The Climb"), and it was a pleasure to see some pros along with Miley and Billy Ray: Margo Martindale, Vanessa Williams, both very welcome indeed.
-
I had time to watch all of the bonus stuff too: the usual bloopers, behind the scenes chats with the cast and crew, a look at some of the casts' hometowns, commentary, instruction on the hoedown dance number that's the movie's big production number.
-
I believe Boring Morass was an actor much like Peter Lorre - he may have been the first choice to play Sebastian in THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. Or maybe his is Hot House exclusive XXX video star, I can't remember.
-
I am now off for the most excellent (I hope) performance of MAN OF LA MANCHA.
-
Wednesday newspaper photo. ;D
-
I'll have to get to the soaps tonight along with THE MENTALIST from last night. Don't know what movie I might want to watch tonight.
-
Nice photo, JRand. Broken legs for today's performances.
-
So, did you have two muleteers who looked like Carol Channing?
-
I have nothing to say, except that I now have shiny new spark plugs.
-
I agree that Michael Emerson's performance is inspired - inspired by Kevin Spacey. :) There's not a look, a line reading, a gesture that doesn't reek of Mr. Spacey. And given that he spent a lot of time with Mr. Spacey in The Iceman Cometh, I suppose it's understandable. I'm not saying his performance isn't fine - it is - but to not acknowledge the Spaceyisms is to be turning a blind eye.
-
I've done all my errands and have spent the last two hours trying to make sense out of what could be our upcoming release. I got it all into movie order, which is helpful, but many tracks will have to be edited together - but on the first hearing, which is difficult because there's no flow due to the constant pauses and slates at the head of each track (which won't be removed until the mastering guy begins editing), it seems like it might just play well. I'm still not sure how long the score is because once the slates and pauses go it will probably be five to eight minutes shorter. That said, there's slightly over an hour of music, so if I do the score proper, and then the alternates as a bonus suite, then I think we'll be fine and it will be a good thing as I've always wanted to do something with this composer, who is still alive and well. In fact, he's agreed to do an interview for the Kritzerland site, and answer some questions for my liner notes in the booklet.
-
I'm starving, but won't eat until another hour goes by.

Sorry, bk, I don't see it at all.

I must hop off-line now and write up today's work project. Then it'll be back downstairs for an evening of pleasure viewing.

There's one theme in this score that is catchy and it alone is reason enough to do the score.
-
I just booked a hotel for my stay - the Times Square Comfort Inn on 39 and 8. Has anyone stayed there. It seems like the rooms are on the small side, but it's a King bed and free wireless - but if it's too small, then I'll reconsider. Let me know - it's easy to cancel and rebook at the Wyndham Gardens, or if anyone here has other suggestions, let me know. I'm not paying for it, so I'm trying to keep under 200 a night.

I believe Boring Morass was an actor much like Peter Lorre - he may have been the first choice to play Sebastian in THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. Or maybe his is Hot House exclusive XXX video star, I can't remember.
LOL! Jack, you are such a scamp!
-
I have nothing to say, except that I now have shiny new spark plugs.
Maybe Carol Channing can work your shiny spark plugs into her act!
-
I just booked a hotel for my stay - the Times Square Comfort Inn on 39 and 8. Has anyone stayed there. BK - Richard and I have stayed many times at the Comfort Inn-Midtown on 46th between 6th and 7th and have been quite comfortable. If you ask for a room that faces 46th, they're bigger that the others.

Good Evening!
Just taking a breather in Starbucks. I had a coupon for a free Vivano, and I also needed to plug in and charge up my iPhone for a bit.
It really has been a wonderful day, and the weather has been glorious. So glorious that I really don't feel like heading home yet. It's just too nice outside. So, a-wandering I shall go.
-
As for Michael Emerson - I believe he has a place here in NYC in Hell's Kitchen. I see him regularly walking on 8th and 9th Avenues.

I agree with you. They never played up the violent aspects of the story, but rather the fantasy aspect of the story. In my humble opinion the violence was also off putting to Academy voters and that is why it lost to The Lives of Others when most pundits chose Pan.
I saw both and thought The Lives of Others was the better film

Here's the YouTube link to "AT THE CHUPPAH (CHUPPAH/CABANA)" - it's the parody of the Manilow/ Feldman/ Sussman COPACABANA musical and song, but with a Jewish same-sex wedding twist.
(The parody words, including - inspired by Laura saying she didn't know all the Jewish words - a few Jewish-English translations if needed, are in the "more info" section at the right of the YouTube screen.)

Thanks, JMK, for your thoughts and comments, as I consider you an expert on stuff Hebraic, parodies and otherwise.

Thanks, FJL.

That was great. My DH shot some puzzled looks over here when I played it.
-
DR MBarnum! Come back from under your rock! My cousin is in Salem right now for a brief vacation!
I don't see the Kevin Spacey inspiration either in Michael Emerson's Ben. . .he did a lot, and I mean alot of NYC theater work before ICEMAN. . .I've been reading through ancient Theater Weeks and In Theater and Emerson was quite the busy little bee. Maybe Emerson inspired Spacey.
DVD:
I went back last night and revisited the "Nikki and Paolo" episode of LOST from Season Three. Maybe it's because they changed a lot of the mythology of the show to incorporate the characters (Paolo finds the hatch, Nikki and Paolo find the plane) that I still don't find it quite as enjoyable as other posters here. I started listening to the commentary on a second viewing, and it's quite self-congratulatory -"weren't we so clever to fit them in here?" that I turned it off and went to bed. . .
-
Happy Anniversary Ben and Ant!!!!
-
I went to a matinee of Julie & Julia today. I loved it, too! It's kind of refreshing to go to a movie where married couples really love each other and are happy together. What a change and a delight.
-
HAPPY 14TH ANNIVERSARY TO BEN AND ANT!
-
Good Afternoon!
My wife and I also saw Julie and Julia today and really loved it. Streep is amazing and Amy Adams totally adorable. Stanley Tucci is terrific.
Jose- What is the name of the Restaurant where The Girls are having Lunch?
-
Jose, if I may ask, which cast members are friends of yours?

Very cute, Fred. I was a bit confused by the ocean vista in Butte, Montana; but I guess in musicals, anything can happen.
-
I'm watching Chefs vs, City and recognize several locations from our first Jose's Walking and Eating tour!
-
I am not feeling well tonight (it must be the moon or Uranus); so..............
G'night!

So... Do you think that Harvey Fierstein really meant it when he said the Menier Chocolate Factory production of La Cage aux Folles was coming to Broadway next year? Again? So soon?
Well, it looks like it's official (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/131749-Douglas_Hodge_to_Make_Broadway_Debut_in_La_Cage_Revival).
-
And now, I'm going home.
Until later. :)
-
I certainly watched a bunch of different things tonight.
I began with today's soap line-up. THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS had Adam being confronted about his "being gay," and losing his girl in the process. Kind of poetic justice, I thought.
-
Luke and Noah had lots of screen time today on AS THE WORLD TURNS. We also got to see Noah's gorgeous film professor again, another plus.
-
And Kyle and FIsh were certainly part of the drama of ONE LIFE TO LIVE today, too. (Fish still hoping against hope, so sad).
Overall a good day for me on all three soaps.
-
Next I watched another MURDER SHE WROTE episode. Pamela Bellwood was the most recognizable of the guest stars for me. Had to do with a piano prodigy who was being smothered by her mentor. I'm not sure who the actress was who played the pianist, but she was supposed to be 18, and the actress looked 30.
-
Page Six Dance!!!
-
Having a long weekend and spent my first day of it watching some DVDs of PERRY MASON and MICHAEL SHAYNE episodes, and spent an hour trying to locate my copy of the movie SHE GODS OF SHARK REEF. Never did find it, so ordered it off of Amazon.com for 43 cents and postage.
-
Next I watched last night's episode of THE MENTALIST. This was the one about a local woman who was a witch. I enjoyed Patrick's observational methods very much in this episode.
-
My buddy Mark sent me a better picture of his new pooch Klaus. Also in the photo are Mark and one of his current dogs, Herbie (although Herbie will soon be going to live with Mark's now ex boyfriend).

While I waited for the right time to start watching MONK so I wouldn't have to sit through commercials, I watched Cate Blanchette in THE QUEEN on one of the HBO channels. She's good, but she's no Glenda Jackson.

All three take a nice picture!
-
Then I watched MONK. The mystery was super easy; I knew what was going on early, even before the murder happened.
OK episode, nothing more. (THE BRADY BUNCH clone was funnier than the MONK scenes.)
-
Heading down now to bed.
Good night!
-
Did so much stuff and am quite tired now. I went to Stanley's for an early dinner, and that was quite yummilicious. I just finished the final episode of Lost, Season Three and I'll be hornswoggled if they didn't just pull an Alias SPOILER
By doing a flash forward instead of a flashback. Alias's most famous season ending cliffhanger did exactly that.
-
I'll start season four now, to see how they're going to deal with it, and I do hope Michael is soon rid of the very phony Tevye beard.
-
TCB - You didn't know that Butte has beaches? See, it was educational too. :)

Congrats to JRand58 (for opening night) and a sold out show tonight.

-
Sam - Yes, it's at the La Jolla Playhouse in California.

Dear FJL This I would really like to see. I have a 5 day weekend starting the 19th, If I can get a ticket to see the show I will spend the night in La Jolla (it's a long drive home for me). MANY ;D THANKS ;D

I'm actually contemplating duplicating today's itinerary tomorrow. Well, at least a variation thereof. ;)
-
I wonder when bk is going to see "Julie & Julia" - especially since this seems to be one movie where a couple of DRs decided to go see it opening weekend.
-Of course, I think that will just mean that bk won't like it. ;)
-
I seem to only want to watch movies with really good looking guys right now.
-
I think Jose is right.
-
Will I come home a red head or a brunette tomorrow (only my hairdresser knows). As long as it covers the grey.
Is this a spider bite on my face (I never have pimples).
Why is a glass of ice cold water so satisfying.
Goodnight. I think I better go. I feel really silly. Maybe too much water.
-
One more.
Beautiful Saturday morning, afternoon, and evening vibes for everyone. :-*
-
I seem to only want to watch movies with really good looking guys right now.
And is there something wrong with that?
;)
-
I'm looking forward to the Julia Child movie - I believe there's a screening soon at the DGA.
-
Sorry to have been sitting here like so much fish. I've been taking care of a back log of photo editing and posting. And it looks like one of my food pics may end up in New York Magazine! :)
In any case... I really do need to get some sleep.
Goodnight.
-
DR JOSE in another magazine!
-
It was a fine show tonight. And the audience was excellent, with the show all the way from the very beginning. And the cast was very sharp as well....a good combination.
Hoping for the same or better Saturday night.
-
I wish I had MR BK's resolve when it comes to jogging.
DR MBARNUM you sent me a copy of SHE GODS OF SHARK REEF, perhaps it was your only copy.
-
DR FJL that is a most excellent video! Oy!
