Title: JOSEPHINE
Post by: bk on September 03, 2009, 12:14:13 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were called Josephine, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - the cows are called Napoleon.

TOD:  I cannot have chocolate cake or lemon pie in the house.  I will, on virtually every occasion that one of them has been in the kitchen, arise from my bed in the early hours and sneak a piece of either.  I will be unapologetic about it, too.  Those are my favorite late-night snacks.

Next to them are Klondike Bars.   Oooooh....what would I do for a Klondike Bar!!

I actually had a piece of Pepperidge Farm chocolate fudge cake (with chocolate confetti on top) just about a half hour ago. :D I bought it on a whim last week and I still have two pieces left...I cut it into six pieces.  Here's a picture:

I think that this was the very first time that I'd had a Pepperidge Farm cake.  I also bought a coconut cake at the same time:

This did not last as long as the chocolate fudge cake has. ;) It was VERY good!

Good morning, all! I'm off to Toyland shortly, and I will be gone most of the day. I want to finish up the band parts for Brent's album, fax some music to BK, deliver the finished product and move on to other projects.

Last night, because of all the clutter, I lost the last chart for the album I was working on. I looked everywhere for it, and after I finished doing all of the initial work, the missing shopping bag turned up. It had fallen off my bed between the nattress and the footboard. So, I didn't finish it last night as I had planned, and that's another four hours out of my life today and two hours from last night I'll never regain. Oy

Sony released a software upgrade for the PS3 the other day, so I spent this morning downloading it into the machine. When I go down later to watch aother episode or two of LIE TO ME, I'll see what notable changes in the interface I can discern. Supposedly, some of the menus have been reorganized.

Happy Birthday DR MattH!!!!!  Hope your day is pain free!

I also watched the CBS Fall tv preview special. And was also glad to see them spend so much time on MEDIUM. Did you see the oldest daughter chopped off all her hair.

The one thing i did think that seemed appealing with some of the shows were the co-stars. The Jenna Elfman show has the wonderful woman from UGLY BETTY. And THE GOOD WIFE has Christine Baranski and Mr. Big.

I am torn on the latter. I like the 2 co-stars but am not crazy about julianna margulies. And it seems like she will be on every minute.

As for THREE RIVERS, what i saw did not really appeal to me.

Thanks DR DAW.  Yes tonight is our opening night.  We shall see what we shall see.

It is most distressing that a huge WII apparatus has been set up in our green room so that those people who have smaller parts and do not know their lines or blocking have another excuse to miss their entrances.....shocking!  I can't sit in their now during the show.  It's too distracting.  I like to be in a quiet place before I go on, so I guess I will sit in the shop....

ANYWAY....yes we open tonight for better or worse.

I asked the stage manager to hang the drapery cord in a certain way since I only have a short time to pretend to cut it down and loop it correctly before I tie up Mortimer.

She in her usual kind manner and with high school stage managing experience - and who plans to major in theatre stage management - told me "Do it yourself."

I also mentioned that "wine" that is not drunk from glasses should be thrown away NOT put back into the decanter and in fact ALL liquids should be fresh every night.  She told me it was too much trouble.

Oh, thanks, DR Cillaliz!  I'll have to get my niece Laura to show it to me.  Or maybe they have it up at our local senior center.

In honor of today's title, I did some research on the phrase, "Not tonight, Josephine."  I had heard reference to it, but never knew what it meant.

Well, now I do.           :-[

And you never wondered why your dates called you Josephine?

I did get one private reply off of CASTRECL yesterday about my vague (and evidently misplaced, Larry-wise) memory of a post about XXX XXX XX XXX.  Evidently, there was indeed a rotating stage, which had been malfunctioning.  The leading lady had a gigantic monologue somewhere in the show and as the stage lurched around, she evidently went completely up, looked panicked for a moment and then blurted, "Never mind, I"ll tell you about it later."  As far as the theater party lady not getting the name of the show right, I'm still waiting to hear about that.  :)

I had to scratch my head the first time I read DR Jrand's post.  I thought he said "...a huge WWI apparatus .." and I thought, "A tank?  Well, I guess that would be a distraction."

Happy birthday Matt!

I was sure that the most common favorite late night snack was going to be popcorn, but I don't think a single person mentioned popcorn. I mean, isn't that the favorite movie snack, and isn't watching a movie the favorite late-night activity? I also expected at least one person to vote for cold leftover pizza, but I don't think I saw that either. I don't mind cold pizza, but ever since microwave ovens were invented, I prefer it warmed up. Years ago, my favorite late-night restaurant snack was a belgium waffle sundae, but I haven't had one of those in ages.

When I got in, I immediately sat down to begin today's work project - THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. It has appealing actors and some good lines and moments of physical comedy, but it became more ridiculous and outrageous the longer it ran, and the mix of comedy styles within the film is so erratic that I felt it could never settle down and be something special. It seemed more a grabbag of comedy ideas and motifs.

So, a mixed review from me.

Back from accompanying DH Richard to our local public library, where he had a book to pick up.  In my browsing I found the OBC recording of Finian's Rainbow on CD and Grand Hotel and Four Weddings and a Funeral on DVD.  I've never seen Grand Hotel and thought I should because BK's always saying, "People come, people go, just like Grand Hotel..."  I have seen Four Weddings... (a long time ago), but one of Richard's seminary profs told us not long ago that he'd been in all the churches, so I want to see it again.  I wasn't paying attention to the churches the first time around.

Thank you DR Jose for posting about Erich Kunzel!

I am utterly "disgusted"!

I have loads of recordings done by Mr Kunzel over the years with different orchestras and they have brightened my life and my ears.

I am going to miss his artistry, as much as I miss the wonderful voice Jerry Hadley.

DR Ginny, I was so mad at myself to discover that I had been in the church in Paris containing "the golden line" from The DaVinci Code, but had neglected to look for it while I was there.

I don't think it would have mattered.  They sent it out for cleaning the week you were there....

We only had a twenty-five minute break, and I had two chicken salad sandwiches - not big ones - medium sized.  The co-author made the chicken salad and while it was very peculiar it was pretty good.  He doesn't use mayo at all - just low-fat sour cream and low-fat cream cheese, so it was actually calorie and fat gram friendly.  Then chicken (but dark meat only - not my fave), candied walnuts, onions, and that's about it.  I had one on a small onion roll and one on a bagel.  So, I'll probably eat a little something in a while.  Happily, I had no traffic at all coming home.

I had a very nice walk through Dupont Circle.

I had a very nice walk through Georgetown.

I had a very nice walk up and down "The Exorcist" stairs.

I had a very nice walk across the Key Bridge from DC into Virginia.

And then I had a very nice "sit down" as I rode the Metro from Rosslyn out to Vienna (VA).

No splurge. We went to Burger King since it's my favorite fast food place. Really enjoyed it today since I hadn't had it in a long time.

I didn't bake myself anything today. I thought I'd look at cakes already done at the grocery store tomorrow, and if I didn't see anything I liked, then I'll make one tomorrow.

Next I watched PERFECT STRANGER, that Halle Berry/Bruce WIllis mystery from a year or two ago. I recorded it last night on FX-HD. Not a great mystery (Berry had some really poor acting moments) but I'm glad I finally got it checked off my list of movies to watch.

I finished up my evening of viewing by watching the Helen Hayes/Bette Davis version of MURDER WITH MIRRORS. I've been going back through Bette Davis' second book of memoirs, and she mentions that this was the first film she made after surviving a mastecomy and stroke. Certainly you could tell she was struggling to get lines out and she sometimes seems not a part of the scene, rather disoriented.

This weekend I may pull out Helen Hayes' other Miss Marple film - A CARIBBEAN MYSTERY and rewatch it.

I also got a couple of Blu-rays for gifts today, and they'll also get watched over the weekend. Right now, I plan to take at least Saturday off and maybe Sunday, too, depending on what arrives in the mail.
