Well, you've read the notes, the notes were on the run, and now it is time for you to post until the running cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GLABELLA!
-
You may now resume posting, and I'm going home and getting out of this broiling car. It's like ninety degrees outside - ridiculous!
-
Back home and guess what - Time Warner is back online. Oh, well, at least the notes are written and I can relax and go to bed early if I so choose. And I'll give a much more detailed report of the recording session today in tomorrow's notes. I hate when this stuff happens, it is VERY irksome.
-
Welcome eight GUESTS.
-
So annoying that I was put in the position of having to sit in my car and write notes. I loathe Time Warner.
-
BK, I am so glad you are back in the recording studio again, and I hope you record many more new albums.
-
I'm having such a blast. Perhaps if Kritzerland makes some real dough next year, we can find a way to do another one of these with a fun singer - or, one of my multiple singer albums - I have a concept for one that's really good and I think would do pretty well, because no one has done it yet. Of course, I shan't mention it here, because we all know we have little thieves who frequent our madhouse.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about to head to the airport.

And now I am off to work...and then to the show!

Friday morning greetings! Our household is up early today to see DS Rob off for his first first day of school. Richard and I also have earlier-than-usual errands and obligations, so it all worked out.
There are 2 things occurring in our family today that I think are apropos to the 8th anniversary of 9/11. Rob is starting his EMT training this morning, a fulfillment of his desire to "give back." I think this desire of his was fueled, in part, by having those horrific events take place 4 days after his 16th birthday.
And then, tonight, we'll be going to the Franklin High School football game for the marching band's halftime tribute to John, former band director and firefighter.
-
Vibes to DR Michael S!
-
Good morning!
More cool mornings and more warm afternoons. Looks like this is to be the norm for the next week.
-
After having a kind of rough day yesterday, I was pleased to have spent a pleasant night though I wish I could have gotten even more sleep. Maybe tonight.
-
After having switched from dial-up to DSL, I know I simply freak out when DSL goes off-line. It's happened three times since I made the switch about three years ago, and that's not very many times, but it IS disconcerting when it happens. WHo knew how much I'd come to depend on the internet for so many things?
-
I am pleased to be doing the last of the martial arts films on Blu-ray today: ZATOICHI. This one is Japanese instead of CHinese, so I'm assuming it's going to involve samauri rather than the kung fu I've seen in the three previous Hong Kong-based films. It's 116 minutes, too, so I hope being two hours it has some substance to it rather than just a lot of fighting. There are a couple of bonus items with it, but they don't appear to be lengthy.
-
There are new episodes of MONK and PSYCH tonight, back from their hiatus of last weekend.

Thursday night's PROJECT RUNWAY
-
This weekend, I'll probably watch EASY VIRTUE, Season 2 of CALIFORNICATION and the last 6 episodes of CRIMINAL MINDS, Season 4.
-
Unless something comes in the mail today, I will have this weekend free from work projects. I'm kind of stunned to be looking at these days off after today, but there you go.
-
Good morning, all! I got to bed too late and I slept too long this morning. Outside it looks rainy and unpleasant but I have to find a taxi shortly and schlep down to the UPS facility on 43rd and 11th to pick up a package because the vendor's deal with shipping UPS is "if they're not home do not redeliver." They're losing this customer ASAP. I am hoping that around 11 I will get a call from George saying he's ready to finish the bookcases, but I am not holding my breath.
TOD:
DVD: Those three Netflix items ftom about 3 weeks ago are still sitting here. Somewhere.

Good Morning, once again!
Greetings from the USAirways terminal at LGA.
I boarded the M60 bus at 7:40. The bus reached the USAirways terminal at 8:21. I wa through the TSA screening by 8:30. So far, so good. Now I'm hoping that the weather doesn't affect my travel plans. They've already been "predicting" cancellations of later flights to Boston, Philly and DC.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Safe & Easy Travel Vibes to Our DR JoseS Today! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had 9/11 dreams last night. I never think of my friend Myra, who was on the first LA-bound plane to hit the towers, but the dreams last night were oblique mostly about reaching a destination with an object - a package, luggage - or conveying a comunication. I cannot remember now.
-
I'm listening to Showtime with Douglas Mounce on BBC Radio Devon and working on the Rockefeller Foundation. It's raining and very cool. Even though it's not the date, fall has arrived in New York City.
That's all for now.
-
Oh, I forgot, I went to LabCorp this morning at 7:15 to have my blood taken. I had a physical on Tuesday and my doctor's office is small. They don't do the blood work there, I have to go to a "facility" Last night I ate early (5:30) and went in this morning. The results should be sent to my doctor soon. I was supposed to schedule a colonoscopy but the doctor I had last time (in 2005) no longer takes my insurance so we need to find a new doctor for that procedure.
-
Thanks for all the Travel Vibes.
About to board, so...
MEdia Check:
iPod: a couple of the Beatles remastered stereo cds (borrowed from a friend.) From what I've listened to so far, they live up to the hype and do sound fantastic. I will definitely be buying.
Watching the reading of the names from Ground Zero, it really struck me [and had not registered for me before] how young so many of the victims were. In the stretch that I was watching, the vast majority were in their 20's, 30's, and 40's.
I will likely watch the 1936 George Brent/Josephine Hutchison film MOUNTAIN JUSTICE which I recorded months ago. It also features someone that I have interviewed, although I forget who...maybe Marcia Mae Jones.
-
Michael S., I hope you feel better today.
With all this talk of GLEE I decided to set my DVR to record it. I believe an episode airs tonight.
As for the Twitterpation of the GLEE episode, if it was a show I loved then I think it might be fun to see the cast TWITTER. But if it was my first time watching, I would not have cared for it, most likely.
Very noisy this morning - until after I got out of bed. Then, silence.
At long last, page three.
-
And now the buzz saw.
-
In my DVD player, The H Man. No Blu-Ray at the moment. And slogging through things on my DVR - in the midst of the very weird film Pressure Point, which, on DVD, has a non-anamorphic transfer, but which, on MGM-HD, looks gorgeous.
CD, our next release.
Back from taking Richard to pick up his car from the service place, grocery shopping, pharmacy, post office, library and it's not even lunchtime yet! Not quite as ambitious as DR Vixmom, but not bad for a retiree.
Back from UPS and the post office. No word - quelle surprise! - from George about the bookcases.
I think I shall forego the jog today and start back in earnest tomorrow. I left calf feels like I almost pulled a muscle, which I think I did during my sleeping hours - I remember waking up and turning quickly and my calf muscle spasmed for a second and I can still feel it.
From Matt H:
Actually, this WAS DRUNKEN MASTER II. It was renamed THE LEGEND OF DRUNKEN MASTER for its American release in 2000. (It was a 1994 film.) The American version of the film (which is a slightly different cut from the original movie) is what Disney is releasing on Blu-ray.
We watched the original versions of both films with Bryan, our first introduction to Jackie Chan.
-
Jose:
The pilot for "Glee" originally aired back in May, then the director's cut was shown last Wednesday,
*Friday night they'll be showing the pilot again - the "regular" version - with live Tweeting from the cast and creatives.
I'm glad you shared the original post again. Looking at it, the Tweeting comment would mean very little to mean. I did not realize the Tweeting would be all over the screen. I just figured people would Tweet at the same time. ;D
I really did think I had recorded the directors cut, my error.
As for watching together on the computer, we both spend more than enough time at the computer. There are more comfortable places to watch & snuggle at the same time ;)
I have returned from upstairs, after making the guest room presentable. Rob's been living in there while he sorts all the stuff he brought home from Cincinnati that he dumped in his room. Thanks! She's running around the house purring. She slept by my bed and purred all night (except when she was sleeping- cats can't pur and sleep at the same time -I read that somewhere).
She hasn't left any presents, but she's acting like she feels good and has been eating like a horse and not getting sick, so I think she's doing better. The vet is open tomorrow morning, so I'm going to give her another day
TOPIC OF THE DAY:
On my DVD burner: the "director's cut" of the pilot episode of "Glee" for DRs Ron and Jane. Anyone else want a DVD copy?
In my DVR (or at least programmed to be recorded): tonight's PSYCH and "Larry King Live" with guest Kathy Griffin!
-
In my CD player here at work: I'm going to finish the newest Kritzerland release, Gaily, Gaily/The Night They Raided Minsky's soundtracks, which I started yesterday.
After that will be two of Donald Feltham's "Broadway Radio Show" broadcasts that I recorded several years ago! One from late 2006: our very own BK, Cason and Merrill Grant talk about the original production of The Brain From Planet X that they were in the midst of performing in. Donald also played a few of BK's (or was it Guy Haines) demo tracks! Then a few months later in early 2007 when the original cast recording was released, BK, Cason and Kevin Spirtas were on again and tracks from the original recording were played! Very fun! I can't believe I found them on my computer. I was looking around on my old computer and found a folder labeled "BRAIN on BRS." I listened to what I had recorded and realized what it was. I was very happy, especially since I'm now going to be in a production of the show!
-
Good Afternoon!
Greetings from Charlotte, NC!
-
So sorry to hear about the infection. Did you get antibiotics?
Antibiotics and a gentle warning that a couple may get worse.
-
Even though we taxied for almost an hour, we managed to arrive in Charlotte just a few minutes past the scheduled arrival time. -But, I'm here.
And it seems that I've traded the gray and drizzle of Manhattan for the sunny and still almost summery temps of Charlotte.
And it's Brews, Blues & BBQ weekend here too! In fact, right outside my hotel!
And the new Epicentre is now open too since my last visit. Yeah for more dining choices on Sunday. ;)
And...
I hope everyone is having a nice end to their (work) week. -And I hope the kitties are on the mend too.
Yes, we had our drizzle yesterday. You should have a fine weekend, at least weather-wise. Of course, you're going to be spending most of it indoors as I am.
-
I watched Wednesday night's season finale of LEVERAGE while I ate lunch. Excellent episode and the introduction of a new female scam artist while one of the cast is on maternity leave. She should fit in well.
-
I spent most of the afternoon with THE BLIND SWORDSMAN: ZATOICHI, today's work project. By far my favorite of the films I've watched this week, it was funny, poetic, exciting, but very, very bloody (the director who also wrote the script and starred as the title character seems to love blood sprays for there are very many of them during the film's almost 2 hour-running time.)
-
As far as bonus features, there were five: a making-of documentary that ran for 40 minutes and then 4 interviews with important crew people about their work on the film.
I wish several of the very excellent actors had been interviewed. I'd love to have heard about their work on the picture.
-
With the time I had left, I skimmed through today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. (The other soaps weren't on today). Nothing of interest.
-
I know tonight I'll watch at least one CASTLE episode along with another NCIS from season 2 and tonight's episode of MONK. I'll save PSYCH for later this weekend while I eat lunch, probably Sunday. Haven't decided if I want to watch PROJECT RUNWAY tonight or wait and watch it while I eat lunch tomorrow.
DR George, if DR MBarnum, bless his soul, will only watch an opera if he thinks it's trash, well, trash it is. I told him Jane Austen was trash but he didn't fall for it.
DR Michael S - the early albums were originally released in mono, therefore some consider the sound more authentic. But the mono box set doesn't include the later albums. Also, some different takes used on the mono mixes versus the stereo. As a compromise, some buy the mono set and supplement with items from the stereo set, which are available individually.
Some reviewers claim that which mix is better is really on a song-by-song basis. The stereo box has deluxe packaging [more extensive liner notes, mini-documentaries on each album, etc.]
Exactly what DAW said, DR Michael.
Good Evening!
Once again, Greetings from Charlotte!
I'm back in my hotel room for a bit. I may or may not head back out again in a little while. The Blues, Brews & BBQ (http://findyourcenter.com/things-to-do/signature-event/1/Blues--Brews---BBQ/) is starting to kick into full gear - at least I can hear the bands from my hotel room - and it would be fun to check it out again.
When I was walking around earlier, I was able to forage for a lunch composed of free(!) samples of crackers, tortilla chips, BBQ sauces, hot sauces, chicken, carrots, peaches and churned-on-the-spot peach ice cream(!). Thankfully, Pepcid AC is here giving out free samples too. ;)
-
And there was even a petting zoo set up with sheep, rams, llamas, a camel and a kangaroo! Oh My!
-
Good Afternoon!
Greetings from Charlotte, NC!
The weather is great!
The forecast for the next three days calls for sunny skies and temps in the mid-80's. Nice!
I'm happy to know you've arrived DR Jose! How's the weather?
-
So, after dinner Richard and I donned our Franklin Wildcat red and he and Rob and I drove to the stadium for the football game at which John was to be honored at halftime. As we were parking the car, I received a text message from Lauren (youngest daughter) telling us that it's been postponed 2 weeks due to this being 9/11. Being the only football fan in the threesome, I was unable to convince Richard and Rob that staying for the game would be fun anyway. We're home now, awaiting Mary Linda's arrival (which won't be for another 3 hours or so.
-
Even though we taxied for almost an hour, we managed to arrive in Charlotte just a few minutes past the scheduled arrival time. -But, I'm here.
And it seems that I've traded the gray and drizzle of Manhattan for the sunny and still almost summery temps of Charlotte.
And it's Brews, Blues & BBQ weekend here too! In fact, right outside my hotel!
And the new Epicentre is now open too since my last visit. Yeah for more dining choices on Sunday. ;)
Yes, we had our drizzle yesterday. You should have a fine weekend, at least weather-wise. Of course, you're going to be spending most of it indoors as I am.
Well... Due some schedule-shifting this fall, I'll actually have a bit more free time on my hands this time round than usual. Tomorrow, I'll only be working from 9:30 to Noon-ish. Then Sunday, we're not starting until 2:00 due to a church service being held in the McGlohon Theatre, and I should be done by 6:00. Monday, which is traditionally the short day, is once again a short day. I start at 10:00, and should be done by 1:00, then my flight is not until 6:00.
I did a pretty thorough walk-around this afternoon, and there are a couple of places I want to check out again. I will say that I almost thought that the Time-Warner Arena (formerly Bobcats Arena) was a new structure, but then realized it only seemed new due to all the really new building around it. There are a lot of new buildings here in Uptown since I was here last year.
Edith told me today that she thinks I'm finally starting to be myself again. She thought I looked really tired, especially yesterday.
That's great Cilla! :)
Actually, I did indulge in a little VB therapy this week. I now have the garment bag that matches the other travel pieces I got for my retirement.
-
Happy birthday to BK's neighbor Mr. Earl Holliman!
If I lived in his neighborhood I would most certainly go and give him a present!
You in a skimpy outfit with bow tied in an appropriate place?
No, DR Michael S.
DR MBarnum would bring him a copy of "Gumnaam".
Strategically placed, of course.
-
I checked my to record list to see how many Eureka's are left and made an important discovery....
All HOUSE & CASTLE fans, on Sept. 21st HOUSE is 2 hours and as a result CASTLE was not going to record. We also have BIG BANG THEORY set in the same time slot.
Lucky for us we have a back up tv in the guest room.
If Vera Bradley married Mr. City, she'd become VeraCity.
Has anyone had a yellow watermelon? I was shocked when I discovered the inside was yellow. It just doesn't seem right. Of course if there was a sign that said the watermelon was yellow I never noticed.
DVR:
Eureka
DVD:
Jim Bowie (tv series)
Blindness
Last night we watched SON OF LASSIE. That Laddie kept bringing tears to our eyes. It was my favorite of the Lassie movies & I hadn't seen it in, at least, 30 years.
-
Has anyone had a yellow watermelon? I was shocked when I discovered the inside was yellow. It just doesn't seem right. Of course if there was a sign that said the watermelon was yellow I never noticed.
Yes, I have! :)
Tastes just like a regular "pink" watermelon. There are some "candy cane" ones on the market now too - dark pink and white/very light pink on the inside. -Like some beets.
-
I wanted to be a percussionist, but I didn't like beets.
-
Of course you have DR Jose ;)
I would not say it tastes exactly like a regular watermelon so maybe it is a bit off. It is somewhat mushy. I think it is weird.
-
Ah, so that was a sonic boom - I thought my darling oafs next door had dropped a tree on my house.
-
Session ended right at three, then Chris Denny, Brent, Brent's bf, videographer David Shine, and I toddled over to Genghis Cohen, where we had a splendidly splendid meal and stuffed ourselves silly, and had the best time. I then came back to the Valley, picked up two packages, came home, addressed all the packages and put the CDs in them, so that tomorrow all Cason has to do is put postage on them and fill out customs forms, while I prepare the bigger dealer orders. So, tomorrow should go fairly quickly.
-
I am pleased to be doing the last of the martial arts films on Blu-ray today: ZATOICHI. This one is Japanese instead of CHinese, so I'm assuming it's going to involve samauri rather than the kung fu I've seen in the three previous Hong Kong-based films. It's 116 minutes, too, so I hope being two hours it has some substance to it rather than just a lot of fighting. There are a couple of bonus items with it, but they don't appear to be lengthy.
Unless I am mistaken this is the blind Samurai/Masseuse character that Vixdad enjoys watching on Saturday mornings. Was this an American or Japanese production?
-
Friday morning greetings! Our household is up early today to see DS Rob off for his first first day of school. Richard and I also have earlier-than-usual errands and obligations, so it all worked out.
There are 2 things occurring in our family today that I think are apropos to the 8th anniversary of 9/11. Rob is starting his EMT training this morning, a fulfillment of his desire to "give back." I think this desire of his was fueled, in part, by having those horrific events take place 4 days after his 16th birthday.
And then, tonight, we'll be going to the Franklin High School football game for the marching band's halftime tribute to John, former band director and firefighter.
I hope that both events went well and they each bring comfort to you r family
-
I spent most of the afternoon with THE BLIND SWORDSMAN: ZATOICHI, today's work project. By far my favorite of the films I've watched this week, it was funny, poetic, exciting, but very, very bloody (the director who also wrote the script and starred as the title character seems to love blood sprays for there are very many of them during the film's almost 2 hour-running time.)
the ones Vixdad watches are in black & white and they are subtiteled - not dubbed and there is no blood (people just fall over dead)
I wonder if he would like the one you watched
-
My wireless keyboard has been giving me fits tonight. I guess the batteries ran down, and I put in freshly recharged batteries, but it's still acting dead. Bah! I hooked up my one other USB keyboard and am using it now, but I don't like the touch of it much. (I have about 10 PS2 style keyboards, but I don't have an adapter to plug them into so I can use the USB port.
-
I began my evening by watching another NCIS episode. It was one of those NCIS vs. FBI episodes which are never really my favorites. This one was OK, but there was a lot of tedious slapstick with Tony dropping drink in his lap due to bad karma of not returning change mistakenly given to him in a drive through.
-
Then I watched the CASTLE pilot episode from the forthcoming box set. Very entertaining from the first episode on. I'm going to go through these episodes slowly (if I can practice some self-discipline) because I want them to last a nice long time.
-
Next I watched the next in the Lex Barker set of Tarzan movies - TARZAN'S SAVAGE FURY. I don't believe I had ever seen this one before (with a new Boy and Patric Knowles as a quasi-villain.) I have only one of the Barker/Tarzan movies left to watch.
-
I was next going to watch MONK, but for some reason, it wasn't recording, and I didn't notice until 10 minutes into the show, so I just set the DVR to record the showing later this morning.
-
Ginny I am so sorry that the tribute was dropped at the last second like that - surely you would have thought that someone would have noticed the date when it was first planned
-
So, I instead watched last night's PROJECT RUNWAY broadcast. I had NO problem with who was sent home, but BOY did I disagree with the winner. In fact, my favorite designs were in the middle "safe" group rather than any of the top three (though I did like the one that finished second).
-
Elmore - thank you for your saavy shopping advice - I was able to get the Avenue Q CD (on sale at teh theatre for $25) brand new and factory sealed from a Dealer on Amazon.com for under $10 delivery included - and it arrived yesterday - only 2 days after it was ordered - I was also able to order the "furry" book that was selling at the theatre for $30 for uder $6 shipping included - it has not yet arrived but ut is also advertised as brand new -
-
No new review copies arrived today, so that clears the way to a complete weekend off. I am thrilled to be at liberty. I must choose some really fun things to watch with this free time since I'm expecting another battery of releases next week from Fox (all after street date, of course).
-
DR vixmom, a wonderful gift arrived today! Thank you so much!
My eyes ahve been bothering me a lot lately, I keep getting headaches. Tonight I finally I went to the eye doctor for an chceckup - I explained about my recent radiation treatment and my theory that as it had taken some of my hearing I suspected it had worsened my eyesight as well-
"Not so" said the optomertrist. " your eyes have actually gotten better due to the radiation treatment!"
The problem is that my current prescription is now too strong!
The shop was closing so I didnlt have time to shop fpr a new pair of glasses but I will look over the weekend . I am also toying with the idea of contacts-- the Dr gave me a sample set to wear home and I quite liked them - the only problem being that although I can see perfectly well at a distance with the contacts I couldn't read unless I held the paper at an arm's length f- so I would require reading glasses if I wear comtacts -
When I wear my contacts, I have to wear reading glasses, too. Regular glasses are bifocals, so that explains why I have to do it.
And speaking of eyes, mine are feeling very heavy so I'm heading down now to bed.
Good night!
DR vixmom - NEVER buy a show's CD at the theatre. It will always be more expensive there than anywhere else. -Actually, it still may be priced higher at Colony (BOO!!!!!). -Most show merchandise is sold "higher" at the theater - mainly for the convenience and spur of the moment factors. However...
So... The Avenue Q CD is now $25 at the theatre. It used to be only $20.
*Too bad the Virgin Megastore closed - it was usually on their $10 Sale rack. -And those $10 Sales would always irk the merchandise people at the theatres, especially when another customer would walk by the booths and say, "Oh, you can get it cheaper across the street".
*I wonder if the other shows have raised their CD prices since the Virgin Megastore closed. Hmm.... ???
-
DR Laura, many health healing vibes for the kitties!!
Aw, Thanks. It looks like tomorrow will be my day to explore. Apparently, there's a Greek Festival in town, and I should be able to get there taking the city's light rail system. Some pastitsio, yanni, kourambides and galaktaboureko sound awfully good right now.
I started watching a Bollywood movie this evening, FILM STAR (2004) and it is much better then I expected it to be. It is more of a B movie, but the story is quite good.
A female inmate's sad story becomes fodder for a selfish film actress who wants to make a movie about the innocent looking murderess who killed her own husband.
Watching a movie on the DVR. I'm quite tired.
But first I need to sleep and relax
Thank you all for the vibes for the kittens. I put them in a pet carrier and brought them into the bathroom while I took a hot steamy shower. So far, they have all survived.
DR Laura, we'll be thinking of the kitties tonight.
Time for me to go check on Cal and give her medicine. She's had a pretty good day. I've decided to just keep up what I've been doing for the past couple years. The Vet thought it was amazing she's been doing well that long, so I must be doing something right.
Thanks, Cillaliz.
Today was a strange day. There was a power outage in a big part of downtown and a lot of businesses just closed down. Then it became pitch black outside and poured rain like crazy. It was really quiet downtown...in an eerie way.
Sounds like it's time to wander down to Chinatown and shop for a potted plant.
That's sort of good news! I work with a couple of people who had the lasik eye surgery and one who had the radial keratotomy and all three had to have reading glasses after the surgery! So, I don't think that it's that unusual. :-\
