Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written in the old-fashioned way, and now it is time for you to post until the old-fashioned cows come home.

And the word of the day is: TITIVATE!

DR JoseSPiano - it's DH Jayson's family.

Thanks, DR Cillaliz - I enjoyed reading about your visit with Spammy! :D

bk - you are working so hard. What if you relaxed Kriterland's new release schedule just a bit? :)

Wow!!!!
Buy a piece of Barbra! (http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions/2009/barbra-streisand/icatalog1.html)

Good morning!
We're back to two days of Indian summer. Not especially cool this morning, and it's going to be hot today and tomorrow (80s). Then, it seems we cool off, hopefully fort the rest of fall.
-
In re today's note's title:
I adore the Shirley Temple tune "Swing Me an Old-Fashioned Song."
-
Friday morning greetings! Another cold, rainy day here in SW Ohio. Rob is off to EMT school and then to Michigan for the weekend, Richard has to go to Lima to conduct a funeral this afternoon, and I suspect my mother will cancel our plans for today. Maybe I'll just watch Mad Men, Season 1, Disc 1 all day.
-
Good morning.
That is all.
-
I'm seeing Finian's Rainbow on Monday evening. I hope to see a certain leprechaun hanging around the theatre.
-
Good overnight news from DRs Jose (about his apartment, his parents, and his overseas family) and from DR Elmore about Finian's Rainbow. Two weeks from tomorrow - I can't wait!
-
I doubt that said leprechaun will have a pot of gold but I'll look just the same ;)
-
And now, back to the Gates Foundation
-
Hi, DR Ben - how are things in
Glocca Morra your workplace?
-
Re: BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA.
I took a nice little beating from the fanboys for not raving about this movie when I reviewed the Blu-ray some months ago. Now, I didn't pan the movie; like bk, I got what Carpenter was doing but didn't think it was completely successful. There were certainly enjoyable parts to the film and Kurt was obviously having fun playing in this romp. I gave it a slightly above average score (I'd say a C+/B- grade). But the fanboys all dumped on me saying I didn't "get it" and why didn't my site assign someone to review it who understood what Carpenter et al were up to.
I took the high road and refused to be sucked into the debate. I let the review speak for itself, but I think that enraged them all the more. Thankfully, a couple of members defended the review.
-
Unless the Fox Blu-rays arrive today, I'm now back to the same quandry I was in earlier this week. I have two Criterion discs which come out on October 20 and 27th which seems eons away.
-
Hi, DR Ben - how are things in Glocca Morra your workplace?
We can talk when you're in town. In the meantime this might answer your question :D I don't say much on public boards, though this certainly says something
-
My problem is intensified a bit by the fact that I'm leaving town this afternoon to see my friend Gregg play Brian in THE SHADOW BOX tonight. I'll be back in town late tomorrow afternoon, but if any of those Fox discs come today, I likely won't have time to even start on them until Saturday night.
I am really looking forward to this night away from home, however. After all my health issues this year, this will be the first time I've been away from home for the night in many, many months. At one point, I thought I'd never be able to make a long car trip or sleep away from home again, so I'm really grateful my health has improved so I can rejoin the human race and actually go on a mini-vacation even for only one night.
-
I doubt that said leprechaun will have a pot of gold but I'll look just the same ;)
If said leprechaun does, perhaps you'll be able to afford to purchase a used kleenex box from the estate of La Streisand! :D

I've started watching BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA on cable a number of times but it never drew me into it enough to stay to the end (or to the middle, actually.) I'ld rather watch ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
-
A quick reminder: though newspapers may say differently, ABC has postponed the season premiere of UGLY BETTY for another week. It will return next Friday at 9 p.m.
PSYCH and MONK return with new episodes tonight.

I watched "Mr. and Mrs. Bridge" last night.
The CD in the car has Lou Reed singing, "Walk on the Wild Side," Sally Mayes singing "He Ain't Mr. Right," and "I Don't Say Anything" from the Adryan Russ album.
-
All the talk a few days ago about THE MUMMY has me hankerin' to watch the old Universal movies that starred Karloff and Lon Chaney Jr. I'm pretty sure they were all released in one of those Universal Horror sets a few years back. The question is did I buy it or not?
-

I, also, could never get into BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. I started to watch it years ago, but turned it off after the first 20 minutes or so.

Good morning, all! Today, I have a lot of things to take care of around the apartment. Yesterday afternoon I finaly got an invoice from George for the bookshelves, and I need to move some money around my bank accounts to cover his check. I also need to inventory the contents of the cartons going to Miami University and seal them. I think I wil ship them next Monday or Tuesday. The good news this morning is that my health premium check has cleared so I am safely insured for the next couple of months.
This morning I am listening to the soundtrack of FINIAN'S RAINBOW for the first time in ages and, much as I like the film, I prefer the stage arrangements and orchestrations. The one exception is the Ravel-inspired Dance of the Golden Crock, based on "Old Devil Moon,"which is really lovely and completely different from the show's version. I love Petula Clark and most of the cast - I still find Tommy Steele creepy - so maybe I'll drag the DVD out and watch it again.
TOD:
DVD: several Netflix things are still sitting here
CD: FINIAN'S RAINBOW (OBC, City Center, soundtrack), Liz Callaway, Guy Haines, Appalachian songs
VHS: cheap porn

Some of the new show pick-ups were mentioned in last night's posts.
I just read that in addition to MODERN FAMILY, ABC has also picked up full seasons of COUGAR TOWN and THE MIDDLE.
-
Good morning.
Lots of jack-hammering going on outside since early this morning. Some guys working on scaffolding on the building across the street. I think they are doing facade repairs and maintenance. They are very noisy and woke me up.
-
I still have last night's THE MENTALIST to watch.
The book signing i went to was pretty good. Although I must say the reading part was a bit underwhelming. She read the prologue for the new book which was completely disjointed from the rest of the book and made no sense on its own (and no characters we knew).
The Q&A part was amazing and very imformative. I was just a bit bummed because she was giving out really cool things to people who asked questions (bags and t-shirts with the book's logo). And she ran out 2 people before my question. :(
It's sort of a good thing i didn't have the book to sign. Because i think the line-up would have been way more than an hour. There had to be more than 100 people ahead of me. And she was taking way more than 1 minute per person.
But overall it was very interesting.
-
Sorry to have missed a few milestones! Tax season has been very busy.
Thanks, Druxy, for those links!!! The Scary Poppins was especially funny, but all were great to see.
BTW, in that vein, here's Jean Luc Godard's THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

So Obama just won the Nobel Peace Prize.
What did he do?
-
Oh, I see.
"Extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
Well, I like him, too, but this seems a little early to be rewarded with such a prestigious prize.

But congratulations to the President.

And congrats to Jose for the reprieve from apartment woes. Hope you find a lasting solution soon!

Pizza on October 24th sounds great for me! If someone can arrange for October 24th to be after the October 15th tax rush!
Ooh, I just checked my calendar and looks like October 24th IS after October 15th this year - yay!

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I think I had one of the soundest, deepest sleeps I've had in a long time.

Well, my mother did NOT cancel our plans for today and, in fact, added a couple of errands to our agenda.
Bye for now!

Oh, I see.
"Extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
Well, I like him, too, but this seems a little early to be rewarded with such a prestigious prize.
It was fun(ny) hearing about how the Nobel Prize committee did not call the White House in advance of the announcement since they did not want to wake up President Obama (due the time difference between Oslo and DC).
-
In other news...
For those DRs spending this holiday weekend in NYC, remember that all but three subway lines are being worked on this weekend. Check www.mta.info before heading out, and plan some extra time for your travels. *In other words, it's not a good weekend to be a tourist in NYC.

So Obama just won the Nobel Peace Prize.
What did he do?
Gee, I wonder what Fox News will do with that? ;)

OMG--you're all FOX ZOMBIES! :)

My question exactly.

I'm up, I'm up, and I have to leave in about twenty minutes. Luckily, I showered just before going to bed.

Odd dreams with an odd cast of female characters - like Nine but with me as Guido.
-
Spam with cheese is a favorite lunch of mine. But it has to be Velveeta.

I am also sad that SOUTHLAND was canceled. I was just thinking about it last night and wondering where it was on the schedule.
Sounds like FINIAN'S RAINBOW is going over! I must FIND my copy of the movie soundtrack!

I was awakened out of sound sleep this morning by the oddest thing!
My computer was humming/mumbling something.
I had to give it power to hear what it was singing.
And this is what I heard:
I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I want to be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me
Uh-oh! I thought. What can this mean?
Happily, one of the first places I went was today's notes...and therein was the explanation.

I'm listening, as usual, to the BBC

Good morning, everyone, from this old-fashioned girl.
First, the update.
Neither of my ultrasounds have really given us much more information. During the second ultrasound I was able to see the screen and saw the mass that my doctor found last week. The biopsy is scheduled for next Friday. I may look like a vampire got to me after it's over. Hopefully, that will be the end to the poking and prodding for a while.

Once again, no Fox Blu-rays, so I had time watch quite a few programs on the DVR.
I began this morning before I left on my errands with last night's SUPERNATURAL. Until Paris Hilton showed up, I was enjoying the show, but she's such a wretched performer (I can't even call her an actress) that she sucks the life out of any scene she's in. The writers got some wonderful catty lines worked into the script due to her presence, but I could have done without her altogether.
And no Castiel on top of it! Are they trying to kill me?
-
As I ate a snack (having dinner tonight once we get to Winston-Salem), I watched THE MENTALIST from last night. Very enjoyable episode. I caught on to what they were doing, but I still wasn't prepared for the identity of the murderer. I simply had NO idea at all despite some good clues dropped along the way.
-
Next I watched last night's PROJECT RUNWAY. It was a toss-up as to the winner and the runner-up, but I agree that those were the two best creations. Of the bottom two, I really though the other person had a worse creation, but as the work prior to this week had been good, I'm sure this person was being given a second chance. The other person had been in the bottom several times before and had misunderstood the assignment several times before. So I was OK with it.
-
And the word of the day is: TITIVATE!
I learned this word when I appeared in Ionesco's FRENZY FOR TWO, OR MORE.
-
Then, I watched last night's FLASH FORWARD. It held my attention as it has always done, but I still don't understand why people are ignoring their instincts and job performance requirements just so those future events CAN come true. To me, this is nonsense. If those things are going to happen, then doing what they're SUPPOSED to do shouldn't make any difference in the outcome. (I'm thinking of the situation of the discovery of the bong.) I hope a future episode will deal with someone doing something which seems on the surface to completely violate the future vision and then we see a few episodes later how fate takes a hand and makes the future vision possible again. That would be more intriguing to me.
-
All I have left on the DVR is last night's THE OFFICE which, because it's Jim and Pam's wedding, I want to savor, so I saved it for my return later tomorrow.
So, I pulled out last season's NCIS box and rewatched the final two episodes of the season. These involved Tony shooting Ziva's "boy friend" (who may or may not have been sincerely in love with her) and the aftermath in Isreal. ENjoyed seeing these two very dramatic episodes again.
-
I watched last night's SUPERNATURAL live last night and fully agree with the assessment of Paris Hilton; though it was a brilliant stroke of genius to see the final outcome for THAT demon.

I am reeling over the fact that an Ebay seller who I won several movie pressbooks from is charging me almost $600.00 for postage.
And I am between a rock and a hard place as I really, really want these items (vintage Bollywood pressbooks from the 30s thru 60s), and I got them for a song.
I have bought many, many items from India over the last few years and price for postage is most certainly NOT that much! Even for a giant, heavy box of memorablia (and I know!).

What?? :o $600?? Did you win several separate auctions and the listed shipping adds up to $600 or is something else going on??

That's ridiculous. Have you emailed him asking him about it? $60 maybe--maybe! But $600? Never. I ship stuff all over the world (including heavy items) and that's absurd.

Topic of the Day (continued):
Just arrived in my mail box, here at work: four, count 'em FOUR CDs from PS Classics (http://www.psclassics.com/) for the low price of $49.95: Liz Callaway's "Passage of Time," Rebecca Luker's "Greenwich Time," Kate Baldwin's "Let's See What Happens" (the songs of Lane & Harburg) and the world premiere recording of Kitty's Kisses! I had actually ordered these on Amazon.com and with tax would've been almost $62. But with PS Classic's special, they were $9 less! Less is good! So, I cancelled Amazon's order (which I wouldn't have gotten for another two to three weeks) and ordered direct. :D

MEGA VIBES FOR DR JEANNE!!!!!

I have just been informed that it was 26 today in the Twin Cities, and that we may be flying into snow. :-\

I guess Disney does not like Betty White anymore when I see how ridiculous her character is in that dreadfull THE PROPOSAL!
And some think that Miss Bullock is the new Katharine Hepburn! Gee! I wonder then where that compliment goes?!
I say "no" to the proposal, while I did enjoy 49 Dresses (Was this the right title?) which was no master piece but had a great actress who's, in my book, wittier than Miss Bullock.
Just my deux sous! ;-)
-
wittier than Miss Bullock.
...or at least has better writers. :)
-
$600 shipping is ridiculous and I'm pretty certain eBay, if notified, will contact the seller and tell them so. I don't know how much stuff you bought, but it doesn't cost six hundred bucks to ship a CAR let alone a box. I'd drop the seller a note - if the shipping charge was not specified in the actual auction item page, he's in trouble.
-
Finally home from mixing and a little quick Pasta Papa at Hugo's. Mix went really well and the album sounds great - I have to figure out the sequencing now.

So glad to read such wonderful reports from the dress and first preview of Finian's Rainbow. And thanks for the photo of the show curtain - I like that!

Yes, but I think she moves, looks and acts better...
(Oh, I have to look for her name, out of sheer decency!)
Not to say Miss B. is not a good actress but, when reading the script for The P. she should have said "no"!
Of course the "pay" was incentive ...
-
27 Dresses!
Ooops!
Inflation's so fast!

I spent several hours this afternoon with my mother. We visited and did some banking for my aunt, went to the grocery store, went to the deli/market for lunch, delivered groceries to my aunt, picked up Mom's mail, and unloaded her groceries. When I got home, I watched the first 3 episodes of Mad Men before Richard returned from Lima. I'm now hooked on Mad Men and look forward to getting Season 1, Disc 2 from Netflix.

Gee, it seems a little soon for another Broadway revival of that particular show!

Does that qualify for tax deductions? (I am SO mean! ;))

Francois, is the movie available on DVD with English subtitles?
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page six.

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

The shipping was listed, however it did not mention anything like "postage will be combined" like so many auctions do. I sent them a note and will contact Ebay if needed....although much searching has not found any way for me TO contact Ebay.

Hmmm; don't know which one you mean, but they're all recent releases here and not yet available on dvd!
-
Busy day, DR Ginny!!!
It sure was, and I was tired before it began. Something tells me I won't be up late tonight!

My "luck"!
They don't take orders from outside of North America! Racists! :P :)

Well, if Jerry Herman could write
When Mabel Comes In The Room
he sure could write about François who stops people from posting when he "comes in the HHW room"! Ah! :)

I was under the impression that eBay finally had a customer service number.

How Do I Contact eBay By Phone?
We would like to provide you with an eBay Phone Number for customer service. Yes, eBay customer support phone numbers where you can actually speak to someone in person! Finally, you can actually contact a "real" person at eBay by phone, hard to believe isn't it!
eBay does not list a customer service phone number on its Web site, even though eBay members complain about the difficulty of contacting eBay by phone. Customers often want immediate answers to their eBay problems and become extremely frustrated as they wait for an email response.
Keep in mind that these phone numbers are to be used however you please but if eBay's call volume gets too extensive, they will simply change their phone numbers and we won't be able to contact them in emergencies.
You can use either one of the following eBay 800 numbers to contact eBay by phone: 1-800-322-9266 and 1-888-749-3229.
The telephone number for eBay UK is 02086 053 000.
Keep in mind that eBay's company hours are 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Pacific time.

(which will then of course be MD'd by Jose)
-
HEALTH VIBES to Jeanne (prayers are being said on your behalf)
-
Tonight I had to go toa wake for an old friend - we have known each other since we were 13 - he also had a big grin onhis face and was the kindest man you could meet
he had a heart attack at work and died before his wife (also a friend from the age of 13) could get to the hospital
Only 52
RIP Bobby - you will be sorely missed
-
VIBES please that tomorrow turns out to be fair, non-windy day - the ceremony is outside
-
VIBES to all
-
Vixmom, my condolences to you and to Bobby's wife. :'(
-
And now, I must leave work and go home. I have things to do and TV to watch.
Until later!
-
Sorry to have missed a few milestones! Tax season has been very busy.
Thanks, Druxy, for those links!!! The Scary Poppins was especially funny, but all were great to see.
BTW, in that vein, here's Jean Luc Godard's THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

I was awakened out of sound sleep this morning by the oddest thing!
My computer was humming/mumbling something.
I had to give it power to hear what it was singing.
And this is what I heard:
I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I want to be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me
Uh-oh! I thought. What can this mean?
Happily, one of the first places I went was today's notes...and therein was the explanation.
It means that the Johnny Mercer doc is getting close to being inflicted on an unsuspecting public.
-
Spam with cheese is a favorite lunch of mine. But it has to be Velveeta.
Just came from dinner at our Hawaiian BBQ joint, reknown for their spam sushi (msubi). It's quite delish!
-
I haven't had shellfish (crab or shrimp or the like) since my doctor said NO!
That was about 2 weeks ago.
Does that mean you're unshelllfish?
-
I am reeling over the fact that an Ebay seller who I won several movie pressbooks from is charging me almost $600.00 for postage.
Maybe he meant 600 rupees?
-
Mega-vibes to DR Jeanne!!
-
Condolences to Vixmom on the loss of her friend. That's too young!
-
Cilla, we'll be back in Wisconsin next week. Wait for us. ;)
Would love to, but I'm booked. The leaves should be great when you're here, they are a little pre-peak right now. That is if the snow tomorrow doesn't make them all fall. We're hoping it isn't too cold while we hike around Taliesin tomorrow
-
DR Vixmom, so sorry about your friend
-
I have nothing to say.
Except.
Have a wonderful Saturday.
;)
-
DR vixmom, I am so sorry to hear about your friend's death.
Here are vibes for a wonderful day tomorrow!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I don't think Sam has read a new novel. I don't think others have read a new novel - all of them couldn't wait to get it. Go know.
-
DR Vixmom, I am saddened to hear of the loss of your friend.
~~~~~Comfort vibes~~~~~~
-
And wasn't Shayne supposedly writing an amazon review?
-
I'm through with my viewing for the evening.
-
Condolences to vixmom.
-
The Ebay seller sent a new invoice...lowering the postage to $120.00.
I think that is not going to work for me, either. Something that weighs less then a ream of paper does not cost that much to send from anywhere!
-
I just found out that there's a Hollywood Collector's Show this weekend - I haven't been keeping up and now wished I'd seen if I could have signed at this one, since my old pal Mr. David Cassidy will be there on Sunday. As to the line up, I swear there are people there I thought have been dead for years, like Jackie Cooper, Jane Withers, Alan Sues - who knew? No Leslie Parrish, though.
-
Vixmom, it is always a shock when the kids we grew up with get old.
-
I'd ask him to send you proof of what the actual charge is going to be - it's okay for him to tack on something small for "handling" but that's it.
-
I wanted to start watching a couple of short B movies I recorded from TCM...BLACK MOON starring Fay Wray and a film titled THE MISSING JUROR...but I am too tired to try to watch them now. Perhaps tomorrow.
-
I'd ask him to send you proof of what the actual charge is going to be - it's okay for him to tack on something small for "handling" but that's it.
I think I shall do that. The large packages I have recieved only cost around $20.00 postage, so I don't understand.

Blasted! That was supposed to be my line, DR edisaurus. ;)
-
DR vixmom - Even though today may have been filled with sorrow, it's good to know you have many happy memories of your friend. And I'm sure you and the rest of the vixfamily will have a wonderful time at the wedding.

Although with the way the American dollar has been doing against other country's currency, well...
I hope you're able to resolve this transaction to your satisfaction.

Just a semi-random observation/warning...
The Elderflower(!) Margaritas at Destination Bar in New York's East Village as sneakily lethal. Just sayin'... <hiccup>

Page Four? At 4:30 p.m. on a Friday. Is everyone out bobbing for apples..... or something?
Or something.

27 Dresses!
Ooops!
Inflation's so fast!
Well, if you convert the US 27 to the Metric system...
-
Every time elmore talks about FINIAN'S RAINBOW and going out the stage door; all I can think of is Cheyenne Jackson and Nathan Lane in that Cubby Bernstein clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAFpdQ6ZAfA
Is that why that clip has such a high number of views?

bk - "(500) Days of Summer" is an American film. -It was the indie hit of the summer.

Gee, it seems a little soon for another Broadway revival of that particular show!
Well, if La Cage aux Folles can come back later this season, well... And lest we not forget the most recent revival of Guys & Dolls? Well, I guess we should forget that.
