Title: THONGS FOR TODDLERS
Post by: bk on October 12, 2009, 12:19:18 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes sang the same old thong, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently at Macy's buying some thongs for their calves.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm "debating" whether or not to take a nap - and, most likely, end up sleeping through most of the day - or head back out into the clear, cool, almost-Winter-like air and spend Columbus Day walking around the Isle of Manhattan.

I pretty much agree with everything in BK's rant (though I do think that thongs do have their place in society, but only as entertainment.)

I'm currently watching "The Today Show"...

-The ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center is already set up and open for business... WTF?

-Justin Bieber is performing... At least he's singing live with no "Auto-Tune".. But, again... WTF?

*Pardon my acronyms.

However...

I will give Justin Bieber some credit for getting his career started all on his own... Via YouTube!

As for the Topic of the Day...

I think if any other DRs also happening to be watching "The Today Show" right now, I'm pretty sure that a good portion of the screaming tweens on the Plaza going gaga over Justin Bieber are probably wearing thongs.  And they probably have belly-button piercings too.

'Nuff said.

I agree with DR Jrand, the conclusion of the show was very upsetting. It's always
sad when a team loses their passports. But this one really upset me. I loved this
team and really wanted to see more of zev. I will be curious to see what really

BK, i just read your thong rant. I agree and disagree.

Obviously children do not need to wear thongs.

And i actually don't wear them anymore. Although i did occasionally in my 20s because of the pantyline thing. Sometimes you have a sheer pair of pants and there was seemingly no alternative.

But guess what? They make full underwear now and it's called NO PANTYLINE.  It's an interesting material, but very comfortable!

I totally agree with BK's rant on thongs and stuff.  Frankly, I think that thongs are ridiculous, even on adults.

But, since we're ranting this morning, what REALLY bothers me is how kids and even adults (well into their thirties) know little or nothing about great literature, history or even current events.  Actually, you only have to watch Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" to know that.

During the last month, I've been with several successful, supposedly well-educated people who had never heard of John Brown, Emile Zola, Robert Louis Stevenson or even Winston Churchill.

I graduated from public high school in 1959.  We were required to read several great works of literature, know the basics of American history and study current events.  What the hell have schools been teaching since I left?

This gets even better.  A few years back, I was speaking to some Cinema students at USC, and none of them had heard of Spencer Tracy or Clark Gable or had seen CASABLANCA or GONE WITH THE WINDAnd, they're Cinema students!

But, the true tragedy of this younger generation's ignorance is that they don't care.  Their attitude is: What does that have to do with me NOW?

End of rant.

As for what DR JOSE mentioned, I think Mr Carl Reiner and Mr Sheldon Leonard, producers of THE DICK VAN DYKE show have said in several articles, that the network censor kept a close watch on the scenes filmed in which Laura Petrie wore slacks and that they were warned several times that they fit MTM too snugly in the backside, hence the warning that they should watch the 'undercupping' on those pants!

At least their response was not the same as the costume designer on SINGIN' IN THE RAIN when Ms Cyd Charisse's costume was too sheer and they had to film a dance sequence three times - the designer after seeing the rushes for the third filming told the producer that he was certain that they now had Cyd's crotch licked.

Actually... -And it's just something I remember from some TV special about "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and/or Mary Tyler Moore...

They had to be very careful with the tailoring of Mary Tyler Moore's outfits, well, at least her pants and pantsuits.  They had to make sure not to accent her buttocks with panty-lines - a.k.a. "under-cupping".

It's often cited that people in their thirties do not like to watch movies that are either made before 1980 or in black and white.

I know for a fact that my eighteen year old nephew refuses to watch anything in black and white--even YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and RAGING BULL.

Good morning, all! I am packing up 14 cartons today and calling Fed Ex to come and take them off my hands. After that, I shall putter about the apartment until I meet DR Ben for dinner before he sees FINIAN'S RAINBOW.

BK, since I'm not spending your money and I can be rather cavalier about things, my advice is to sign the contract and do 1500 copies of the cast recording. The turnover may not be as great as you'd like, but I believe they will sell eventually. When you released HENRY SWEET HENRY many years ago, i never bought it since it was a show I had never cared about.  Well, when I needed one a year ago, a kind DR - I believe it was DR Matt H -  burned me a copy, but I later decided I liked it enough to want the CD and ended up paying a lot for it through an Amazon vendor.

As to today's rant, I am very much in agreement, and that's my rant for the day.

I agree BK, I also agree with DR Druxy.   I want to say that we all learned the basics of literature and history, but I do know people I went to school with who didn't learn a bit of what I did in the same class room.   I also was lucky enough to be raised in a family that values good books and history, so I grew up with history and have always loved it.

I think what scares me the most is the large number of people who never read a book.  Good grief, I don't know what I would do without books, but it seems today it's more important to twitter that you are walking down the street (no offense meant to anyone here, I'm speaking of teens) than to read anything that was written more than 5 minutes ago.  I think it's scary

End of rant

When did people start calling them "sleeping shorts"?   My nephew came in the living room and I asked why on earth he was sitting around in his underwear and he informed me they were his sleeping shorts and told him to put some pants on.   I didn't believe there was such a thing until that very day I came here to learn that BK had lost his.  I don't think yours are in Wisconsin, but I did see a pair there.

I had the heating/AC man here this morning. No, nothing was wrong with the furnace. When my A/C shut down early this summer and I had it fixed, I opted to buy the package which called for a fall and spring maintenance package. Today was the fall maintenance stuff.

Glad I did it too because he adjusted the gas flow for the heat so it wouldn't overflow and trip the cut off switch. He said it will be much more economical this winter. Good to hear!

Well, obviously thongs for children are the height of ridiculousness. I have no opinion of them for adults and only hope they exercise common sense before deciding to buy and wear them.

It used to amaze me no end during my decades as a junior high/middle school teacher about how little the children who got to me knew about history, geography, or authors. (I taught English.)

I had honors students in the seventh and eighth grades, and many of them could not find, say, Washington, D.C., or London, England, on a map. If you gave them a map of the world with no writing on it, they'd ask which way was the right-side up?

So, I requisitioned pull-down maps and had them all over my classroom. I NEVER taught a story or novel that had a specific setting that we didn't pull the map down and find the spot for it. And if we were reading historical fiction (JOHNNY TREMAIN, for example), I ALWAYS brought in history and biography to extend the learning.

I often wondered what on earth the children did in their elementary years in school that they knew no states or countries of the world by the time they got to me. They might not have remembered them after they left me, but for the one or two years that I taught them (and when we had ninth grade in our school, I taught some kids for three years), they were quizzed unmercifully on history and geography as well as language arts where appropriate.

I recall when Orson Welles' OTHELLO came out on DVD, I went into Tower Video to get a copy.

The clerk/supervisor was probably in his early 30s.

"Do you have OTHELLO?" I asked.

"How do you spell it?"

I spelled it, then added "It's by Shakespeare."

"Who?"

"William Shakespeare," I said.

"Never heard of him," he said...and he wasn't kidding.

"I wouldn't brag about that," I said.

His reply: "Doesn't bother me."

When I taught in a teacher ed program, I found it frightening when aspiring teachers were lacking in subject knowledge.  I used a feature-length, entertainment-quality video in which the main character Jack learned about information skills by researching the Cuban missile crisis.  A future high school history teacher asked me if I thought she should know about that event  :o

I LIKE panty lines.  Somehow in the 20th century, women survived just fine with them.  But now they really want their ASSES to to be revealed to the world.  And listen carefully - what do you think that big triangle that's leading down to your ASS is?  Why, it's a different shaped panty line, that's what it is.  Of course, equally popular, even more so now, and yes they had them for the toddlers, are g-strings to avoid the triangle.

I think what scares me the most is the large number of people who never read a book.

Much of that is caused by the fact that the kids are being raised to see reading a book as a homework chore. They have not been exposed to adults reading for pleasure. I have an on-going battle with my DIL who refuses to let the 12 year old read "trash" that is not "up to grade level". (This kid regularly scores at least 3 years ahead of his grade level on reading tests.)

My first exposure to "reading for pleasure" was having my "only finished eighth grade" father read the Sunday Comics to me.

If we need a rant about what women wear, let's rant about those women whose idea of fashion-consciousness has them out in public wearing too-tight blouses/tops that expose every seam of their bra straps, every fold of fat on their torso and whose too-tight pants create deep crevices in their butt cracks.  Some have no panty lines, so they must be wearing thongs...and some have panty lines so clear one can see how tightly into their butts  the panties cut.

I'm all about comfort...and wearing clothes that allow my pores to breathe freely...and not offending the sensibilities of even THE most jaded passersby.

Maybe they can start making Pampers with a thong painted on!

Not sagging pants on women -- the very very low cut. So that your belly shows if you are wearing a t-shirt.

And speaking of Finian's Rainbow...

Here's Cheyenne Jackson's First VLog (http://www.broadway.com/buzz/finians-rainbow-star-cheyenne-jackson-takes-broadwaycom-backstage-with-video-blog/).  *Accompanied by one of the least flattering pics/screen-shots of Cheyenne Jackson I've ever seen.

*It's a relatively long clip, just a little over 16 minutes. But it does include some backstage shots, as well as some of the tech rehearsals.

Am I imagining it, or is there a quick glimpse of Mr Jackson's dance belt on his dressing room table?  And if it is, why is there a grommet in it?

I wonder if DR MattH will take in one of those Charlotte performances.

He likely will not. This has been an expensive summer for me, very expensive with the hospital/doctor/PT bills, A/C repair, new roof on the back of the house. The $70 a ticket for a show I have seen on tour twenty years ago plus several times in local theater productions just isn't in the cards. I'm sure it's a lovely, even memorable production of the show, but if I'm going to send $70, I'd rather it be for the tour of JERSEY BOYS which is also coming through here this season. It may not be SOUTH PACIFIC, but at least I've never seen it before.

Hmmm--I'm having flashbacks to doing Shakespeare in college in period costumes (i.e., tights) and the costumers (in one case Oscar-award winner Gloria Gresham) pleading with the guys to PLEASE wear the supplied dance belts!

During Reefer Madness last year, there was a drug-induced orgy scene where everyone was in various states of undress.  All the men were told (and some had to be told more than once!) to wear tighty unders under our outer unders.  :-X

In the time I had remaining, I tried to pull up last night's episode of THREE RIVERS from HD On Demand, but CBS hasn't posted it yet. So, I pulled up last week's CSI: MIAMI. I don't watch the show regularly any longer, but I have been watching two or three episodes a season just to keep watch over how the show is progressing. Eddie Cibrian has joined the cast and looks wonderful. (I think he's lost a little weight.)

The case, about three beach volleyball players who get electrocuted during a game, is pretty interesting. Haven't seen all the suspects yet, so I don't have any indications as to the guilty party though I know (based on whom we HAVE seen) who I suspect about halfway through the show.

It's often cited that people in their thirties do not like to watch movies that are either made before 1980 or in black and white.

I know for a fact that my eighteen year old nephew refuses to watch anything in black and white--even YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and RAGING BULL.

I think that was Ted Turner's rationale for colorizing films. Not that I'm defending the idea...

Hello, everyone.

What has struck me about clothing trends since returning to California is how many women I see showing cleavage in the work place. Over and over again I see women wearing tops that I associate with either beachwear or cocktailwear, yet one was working in a pharmacy, another at a doctor's office. I see it all the time, too. I can't understand it.

I just watched MODEL SHOP and 1969 American film by Jacques Demy that I didn't even know existed.  Mr Gary Lockwood was at his most handsome, especially next to Ms Anouk Aimee who is does not have typical Hollywood beauty - although she is certainly striking.

Hey everyone, it's me, The Vixter. I'm logging in and out so Mom can come back on, so I'll make this brief.
Topic-wise: Ew. That could be one of the most horrible things I've heard in a while. What is this country, no I'm sorry, world coming to? Thongs for toddlers, it won't be long until we have a society like A Brave New World going on here, with everyone whoreing themselves out like they are. Yeesh. What's next, women going topless in schools?

On another note, I have a quick favor to ask from you all, oh wise ones. I have to do a topic in musical theater where we come up with our theme song, and preform part of it for the class. It can be from any genre, from musicals to pop-culture. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of a song I could use for my theme? I will be very greatful to you guys if you can help me. I have to go now, my Mother is demanding her computer back.

BK - the song is supposed o be her own personal theme - a song that says something about the person that she is

Her first thought was the song that you wrote - I want to Sing on Broadway - but she felt that the teacher would prefer a song  that she (the teacher) was familiar with

It is a Musical theatre class so the Vixter was thinking that a song froma Musical would be the best bet - so far she hasn't found one that "feels right"

any songs out there about a girl who loves to sing , loves to read and is respectful of adults that's NOT from Beauty & the Beast?

Laura - I have to agrre with the oithers here - you certiaany are not stupid - and I am certain that yo are not ignorant either- I don't think that because you do not choose to read classic novels or watch movies that places you in the same category as someone who has managed to progress through the school system and avoid learning anything

I suspect that the names William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte are not unknown to you even if you aren't particiularly interested in reading their works

Vixdad was a groomsman, the Vixter sang One Hand, One Heart - (thanks JMK for the sheet music!!) and I read from 1 Corinthians 1 -13

Vixmom, I know it's more of an "I Want" song instead of an "I Am" song, but what about "Corner of the Sky" from Pippin?

And when will you and the Vixter be reading a novel you've had for weeks?

Well the wedding is over - and she just has 3 more weeks of Soccer and 4 more weeks of play rehearsal (they are putting on Stage Door)

So she will proabably be free to do some non- homework reading by mid Novemebr - I on the other hand have already read it and have been mentally composing my review

I should be ready to put in into print shortly

and yes - I liked it very much!!

I am back from a lovely dinner with DR Ben, who's now watching Act One of FINIAN'S RAINBOW. I stopped backstage to see everyone and headed home. I have to be up at 6:30 tomorrow morning so I will be heading to bed very soon.

I may have to score a new finale, although I very much like the one we currently have. There's been some feeling from a producer that it's too large an ending, and I suspect he dislikes the harmonies on the final chords. So, I'm on alert.

Remember - today's Columbus Day.  No mail, no banking, etc.

Well, here in New York City, a good number of bank branches are open today.  However, nothing will officially post until tomorrow.

I remember when I was young (well, sorta), you weren't allowed to date a check on Sunday, you had to post date the check to Monday.  This was part of Washington State's Blue Laws.

What is your theme?

I dunno, that's why I'm asking friends, family, close compains from the internet *wink wink*

How well do you sing?  That would be a major factor for me to consider if I were doing it.

Tonight I decided to take a trip down memory lane. I pulled out some show tapes from productions I've been in that I particularly enjoyed performing in. I began with AND THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND. I adored all the songs I got to sing in the show both individually and with the group, but I remember this show used to wear me out more than A CHORUS LINE did!

The genius about this show is that though there were a few familiar Kander and Ebb songs scattered throughout, many gems were picked from shows like 70 GIRLS 70, THE ACT, and THE RINK that people weren't all that familiar with, so many of these wonderful songs were new to many in the audience.

Next I watched FOREVER PLAID, probably the most enjoyable show to perform I've ever been a part of. The audience reponse was so joyous every performance that doing it was pure pleasure.

I'm back from visiting Midtown Comics and listening to Marlene VerPlanck.

Midtown has more copies of my favorite comic book series ("Angry Youth Comics" by Johnny Ryan) but not the best arrangement. I don't think they sell Johnny's newest book either. I definitely recommend Jim Hanley's Universe right across the Empire State Building.

I also went to the Audi Forum for a very quick look-see of their cars: Very spartan place, being an Audi showroom and all. All I have to see inside are the R8 V10 and the R8 Le Mans Prototype (the gasoline-burning one, before the diesel-engine-equipped R10 and R15)

Topic of Discussion message:

You hate thongs for way-too-young girls, I hate big-ass sunglasses for girls or women of any age. We have ourselves a deal.

I didn't have enough time to watch another entire show, so I started pulling out shows and watching certain songs or scenes from them. I looked at THE SOUND OF MUSIC and LA CAGE. I wanted to get to NUNCRACKERS, but I ran out of time.

IU did forget that I did watch one DVD tonight - THE VERY FIRST ALVIN SHOW.

This was the 1961 first cartoon version of THE ALVIN SHOW with the real Ross Bagdasarian doing the voices, etc. I hadn't seen this in 50+ years, and it took me instantly back to my childhood. I just wish there had been more than one episode on the disc.

JoseSPiano: I went to Forbidden Planet a quick while ago. Any bookstore that sorts its books by author is good in my book - I got Johnny's latest novel "Prison Pit Book One" out there. Less wacky unpredictable toilet humor compared to Angry Youth Comix but more Japanese post-apocalyptic horror/action then a handful of toilet humor.

I don't know if this is a vixter theme song, but maybe it could be her singing about her mom; maybe something to the tune of "Sleepy Man", the real song being at

Or maybe it could be done with playing around with vixmom and vixter's names

As far as thongs go, isn't there the Elton John thong

And you can tell everybody that this is your thong
I know that that's what you're wearing beneath your sarong
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
If I retch on the ground;
How wonderful life is when you're not around

They may try John Selya
'Cause it hangs 'em up to see a thong on you
