Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written in haste, and now it is time for you to post until cows come home - they just said, "Away we go" so who knows, they may finally be coming home.

And the word of the day is: HETEROGRAPHIC!

~~~Vibes for Cillaliz's Sister!!~~~
-
Yesterday, I went to work for a few hours and then went to the 50th birthday party for my friend Pug. Pug (her original and still legal name is Charlene) directed the first several shows that I did with TAO. It was a surprise party and a grand time was had by all.
-
HETEROGRAPHIC!
I'm hiding my eyes!! :)
Congratulations on your shiny new blog, DR MBarnum!!!!!! :D
I'm up way too early this morning, and about to leave for work.
Healing vibes to Arnold. I hope you start feeling better real soon.
Thanks for the great photos, Laura. Especially that 30 foot tall dinosaur!
Congrats on the new blog, DR MBarnum. I look forward to checking it out when I get home tonight.
-
Heading back to Florida today.
Healing vibes to Arnold
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And...<yawn>
It's raining here in Richmond, VA, this morning too. Well, it's not raining right now, but we're due for some brief downpours throughout the day today. At least today will be an "indoors" day.
Today is a work day...again. Oh well.
-
In a couple of hours, Steve and I will be heading over to the new Richmond Center Stage (http://www.richmondcenterstage.com/) for a concert by The Richmond Symphony (http://www.richmondsymphony.com/).
I'm looking forward to seeing what they have done to the Carpenter Center - now Carpenter Theatre (http://www.richmondcenterstage.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10&Itemid=82) - as well as the concert itself - which happens to feature one of my favorite piano concertos, Prokofiev's 3rd, played by one of my favorite pianists, Jeremy Denk.
*When I was in school, the music students frequently were offered free tickets to various concerts and presentations at The Carpenter Center. It was the first "star ceiling" I remember seeing, and, apparently, the upgraded fiber-optic one is quite stunning. :)
Ah, yes...
~~~~~GOOD WEATHER FOR GOOD TRAVEL VIBES FOR DR MICHAEL S~~~~~

But first...
Coffee. Breakfast. And most likely in that order.
Laters...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I don't have Comcast HD on my Comcast and I don't get MGM HD....I do get Universal HD....maybe those channels will get here eventually.

Yes, it does!
-
Working today, of course. And anticipating a fine TAR whenever it starts tonight.
-
My niece and I just made 24 banana muffins and 2 banana breads. Yum!
-
OMG! How did I miss that DR Arnold had gone in for a hernia oepration! ???
Feel better wishes to you, DR Arnold! I hope things can get back to normal as soon as possible.
-
Good morning!
Had to wear sweat pants instead of shorts for my walk this morning. It was very chilly!
-
On the topic of GUYS AND DOLLS's score:
I agree. It's one of the very greatest scores ever written for Broadway. And can you believe it didn't win the Tony for Best Score!
Irving Berlin won for CALL ME MADAM which is a good score but can't hold a candle to GUYS AND DOLLS!
-
Good morning, all! I got in very late (for me), so I slept in this morning. I have several phone calls to return from yesterday and at 2 pm or so I will meet Bruce Pomahac for a concert of Kalman's operetta SARI at Merkin Hall, performed by the folk from Philadelphia whose concert we attended several weekends ago. I'm very happy I cleaned the apartment yesterday because I am completely wiped out this morning and hung over.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Healing Vibes to Our DR Arnold Brockman! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I agree that GUYS & DOLLS is a great score! Love the songs - but if the show isn't cast correctly, it can be a chore to sit through, at least for me. I have seen some sad Adelaides and some pretty terrible Nathans and Sky(s). Some of them all in the same production.
I didn't realize you had made it to NYC for the latest G&D revival, DR Jrand?
I agree wholeheartedly! CALL ME MADAM has 4 or 5 great Berlin songs but I'm not crazy about the rest of it.
-
My work project A for today is the 1994 version of MIRACLE ON 34th STREET. I can't say I'm thrilled to be watching this again, but maybe the Blu-ray will look glorious.
Of course, BONES episodes will continue to be viewed.
-
LOL DR JOSE....those reviews were (justifiably) brutal....
And don't forget DR's from NYC - pick those BBB souvenirs up off the street!
To the best of my research, Frank Loesser never won a TOny. His scores for HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS nor MOST HAPPY FELLA lost to other scores (OLIVER! and MY FAIR LADY).
Did he get one for being one of the producers of THE MUSIC MAN?
-
I have forgotten to post how much I am enjoying the CRY FOR US ALL cd! I had read about the show in a couple of books, but I didn't know any of the music.
It is most entertaining. I like the score - the lyrics, are a bit "jingle-y" but have some charm. The music is very nice. I like Mr Weede's songs, of course particularly "The Mayor's Chair". Steve Arlen I had never heard of - but his solos are glorious.
I think Joan Diener is also grand. But she just sings TOO MUCH. I guess maybe she was a great Aldonza because she sang only a few songs.....and NOT all night. It gets to be TOO MUCH for me. And I guess she was tired of just wearing one ugly outfit in a show and decided she had to have a LOT of clothes for CRY FOR US ALL. One critic referred to her range of expressions as "pancake makeup." BUT her songs "How Are You, Since?" and "The Verandah Waltz" (purloined in tryouts from Halen Gallagher), are so lovely, you can almost forgive her other songs later in the show.
Don't like the street rats - kids who sing plot points. The most joy is from Miss Helen Gallagher who sings a short ditty called "Swing Your Bag" that makes me laugh and want to choreograph the whole show! The title song is also quite interesting.
So - I guess what I'm saying is - if it's still available and you're on the fence - buy it.
-
As we may have discussed, the very same still-active Albert Marre of CRY FOR US ALL and (of course) MAN OF LA MANCHA fame was the director of the readings of the GLASS MENAGERIE musical adaptation BLUE ROSES, which DR Julie and I had the joy of seeing at the York Theatre on Thursday night.
-
I still have quite a bit of TV on the DVR. I guess I'll try to get through UGLY BETTY today while I cook and eat lunch. Still have MONK and PSYCH and LAW & ORDER to watch. I also recorded SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE from last night's HBO-HD. I never have seen the movie, so once I can find the time, I'll get to see what all the shouting was about from last season's Oscar race.
-
Well, I think I'm going to take a walk along the river while Steve gets some practicing done. The Richmond Men's Chorus and the newly formed Richmond Women's Chorus have their first concert of the season coming up this Saturday, so he's learning and playing double the amount of music he normally learns and plays. Or something like that.
-
DR FJL - I guess I missed your post about the show....did it follow the form of THE GLASS MENAGERIE? I am most intrigued....but a bit scared by the whole concept.
But of course now, I am off to work.
OK, my morning surf is over, so I need to head down to get started on the laundry and then decide what it is I want to fix for lunch.
-
Jrand - The keepers of the Tennessee Williams estate appear to be involved at just about every step; they were there at the afternoon performance on Thursday, and I gather that perf had gone well as well.
The writers (whom i know from when we were all students at the BMI Workshop) must be thrilled with how it all went. The composer, by the way, is the great Nancy Ford (of Ford and Cryer fame, or is it Cryer and Ford).
Recovery vibes to DR Arnold Brockman
Catching up on cleaning etc around the house today. Doing laundry right now. I really need to clean out the garage today (one side is where I park the other storage) so I can get all my outside stuff I put in for the winter put away. We're going to have another rainy week ahead and more cold weather. Raking can wait for now, but doesn't look like we're going to have fall here, so I may as well get ready for winter.
-
There is a Super Latke dinner just down the street. I love to go for the bake sale etc. Think I'll head that direction, I could use the walk
DR Laura - Thanks for the pics of the Flora, Fauna and Dinosaur. :)
Wasn't Liza the Flora?
-
I'm up, I'm up. What a good night's sleep I had, albeit with some strange dreams.
-
First off, excellent vibes and xylophones for dear reader Arnold M. Brockman to feel better sooner than soon.
-
Glad to hear The Glass Menagerie was good. Funnily, back in 1969 in the Lehman Engel Workshop Menagerie was one of two shows he thought impossible to musicalize - and therefore those two shows were always given as assignments to see what the writers could come up with. I wonder if Miss Cryer and Miss Ford, who were around back then, just really liked their song enough to resurrect it all these years later :) The other show was Streetcar.
-
I first saw Guy and Dolls onstage at the Bluth Brothers theater, which I write about extensively (and fictionally) in Kritzer Time. It was a great production.
-
I guess I'll do the jog in about thirty minutes and then call Grant to see if we're getting together because, after all, it's get together weather.
-
At long last page three.
-
It's time to walk down to 67th Street for the Kalman presentation. I hope it's good. Kalman is the one operetta composer I can think of whose music all sounds the same to me.
I have to say that I loved, loved, loved the Chorus Line documentary "Every Little Step." They showed a good chunk of Jason Tam's audition with Paul's monologue, and it had me crying all over again. As well as all of the creative team behind the table.
-
The rest of Betsy's clan have bussed up to Green Bay for the day to attend the Packers game. Due to my cold and exhaustion, I opted out, so I have a day sort of to myself. Slept in, managed to make the in-room coffeemaker explode (that was an exciting clean up job), and am now out to shop. We are up again tonight (tomorrow?) at 3 a.m. for another round of redeye flights back home. Oy. I need a vacation. ;)
I'm sure you meant pasture, dear.
Television alert: NBC is broadcasting figure skating right now.
I'm just now getting around to reading Frank Rich's memoir Ghostlight. Really enjoyed his description of encountering a musical for the first time, first on LP and then live in a theatre.
It brought to mind similar passages in the Kritzer novels.
-
We are up again tonight (tomorrow?) at 3 a.m. for another round of redeye flights back home.
The hotel staff are planning another teenaged pool party for your wakeup call.
-
During our trip to MN we had a really wonderful thin crust (almost flat bread type) pizza.
Even though the local pizza joint didn't offer this on their menu, we asked them last night if they would make us one. They did, and it was delish!! :D
-
BK - Sorry for my confusing post above. Nancy Ford (of Cryer-Ford fame) is the composer of Blue Roses, the Glass Menagerie musical; the book adaptation and the lyrics are by Mimi Turque.
-
Finished with the Brent blurb and working on the soundtrack blurb now. But I think I'll go jog first.
The new swine flu strain also may have hit some pigs at the Minnesota State Fair in late August, animals possibly infected by some sick 4-H students. If the infection is confirmed, it wouldn't be a surprise: A sick farm worker first infected pigs in Canada last spring, and herds have been hit in Australia and Argentina, too.
Started out as a beautiful morning. Clouds are moving in now, and I fear we're in for even more rain now.
-
I have to say that I loved, loved, loved the Chorus Line documentary "Every Little Step." They showed a good chunk of Jason Tam's audition with Paul's monologue, and it had me crying all over again. As well as all of the creative team behind the table.
I will eventually buy this as I'm such a fan of the show, but its on-line price right now is more than I want to pay, so I'm waiting either for some discounts to set in or for the (hopefully) November sale at Deep Discount.
-
As I cooked and ate lunch, I watched UGLY BETTY's two hour season premiere. WHile it was great to have the show back, I tired over the two hours of all the impossible expectations placed on Betty effecting no-win situations for her. The show has ALWAYS done this, but it really got to me in this show. Plus the overall mean spiritedness in the episode really hit me hard, too. Yes, the resolution was satisfying enough, but the audience was put through an undue amount of torment to get there, at least I felt it was poured on a little thickly.
I look forward to less frenzied and frazled episodes in the weeks ahead.
-
I settled in for today's work project: MIRACLE ON 34th STREET (1994). Perfectly adequate remake but no more than that and lacks the magic and whimsy of the original. The changes made to modernize it robbed it of charm, and the actors were capable but, again, lacking magic and effervescence.
-
There were no bonus features at all on the disc, not even a trailer of the original or the remake.
-
I watched another BONES episode to wrap up the afternoon viewing. It was the one which introduced Booth's handsome but roguish younger brother Jared. The mystery was a good one, and I didn't remember the killer's identity even though I was seeing this for the second time.
-
Well, I must jump off-line now and get some writing done. Then I'll head back down to put away the folded laundry and then watch more BONES and LAW & ORDER from Friday night.
WBBL.
Sunday afternoon greetings! We're back from a full day in Lima - worship service, ladies' guild meeting, pastoral visit to our oldest parishioner (she's in her 100th year), lunch at Culver's, quick stop at Kroger (where Richard paid only $1.96/gallon - a Kroger rewards perk). No wonder we're useless on Mondays!
Recovery vibes to DR ArnoldMBrockman! Don't try to be a martyr - pain meds are great!
-
DR DAW - Frank Rich's Ghostlight is a favorite book of mine. I've been intending to reread it - thanks for the reminder.
-
I have also seen a badly-cast production of Guys and Dolls. I wanted to stop everyone on the way out and tell them that it really is a great show.
One of the best productions of Guys and Dolls I saw was a high school production several years ago. We are quite pleased to see one of the young actors has gone professional and we see him once in a while at Phoenix Theater.
Don't try to be a martyr
My mother not only tried, she succeeded! ;)
Feel better, AMB.
Seems bk's latest book is making the rounds. At last week's event, I took 3 copies to give to Mark, Mary, and George. Joanna was there with her copy (of course Miles was there). Sue's husband read it and has to go to Musso and Frank (guess they saw the book at Tony's house). In a nutshell.
Lots of happy vibes for everybody ;D ;D ;D.
It's not as good as it sounds.
I just finished posting on one of those cruise message boards. Most of the people from my cruise seem to have been posting since January or February. It was interesting reading, but I don't see myself becoming fast friends with any of these people. All of them appear to be couples, mostly all retired, and most of them seem to cruise two or three times a year.
I think the main reason for posting is to cut the costs of the shore excursions, but I am not really sure that I would enjoy any of their side trips.
We shall see.
Being asked to leave the restaurant doesn't sound good to begin with.
I saw many movies at the old Strand Theatre, including BEN-HUR, and when it was renovated as The Studio, I was there fro the first showing of WHAT A WAY TO GO which starred Shirley MacLaine. I guess it will be one more hole in the huge cavity that was once downtown Middletown. sad.
Kalman's operetta SARI is a terrible piece but it had a very good cast and a wonderful handsome leading man who was 20 years too young for the role of an aging egocentric violinist. He should be playing romantic baritone leads not unpleasant old farts.
Thanks Dan. She is very sick, but apparently all the stuff about going to the doctore etc isn't true. It's just her being her. Anyway, she is honestly very sick and is in her 9th day. If she isn't better tomorrow her husband is taking her in to the doctor.
I love the rain, but it makes dog walking unpleasant.
Good Evening!
Besides the woman in front of me who proceeded to send text messages on her phone throughout almost all of the first half, it was a most enjoyable concert. And the reason it was "almost" was because I finally put my hand gently on her shoulder during the second movement of the concerto. As it was, it appeared to me that neither her nor her school-aged daughter wanted to be there... And they did not come back after the intermission.
*And the woman sitting next to me thanked me for giving the "signal" to the other woman. -Of course, the woman next to me would occasionally turn to her companion to share some observations. Ah, well...
In any case...
-
Wow! I haven't seen this many DRs all in the Living Room all at the same time in many an age!
The new Richmond Center Stage complex is a pretty nice complex. We got there a bit early to walk around and check the place out. The exterior of the complex is where most of the changes took place - at least the big ones. Not only have the old Thalhimer's and Miller & Rhoad's store basically been gutted and "re-structured', but they also tore down "Sixth Street Marketplace" which was built on top of Sixth Street. So, Sixth Street is back to being an actual street again which makes the full exterior of the Carpenter Theatre visible (from the street).
Inside, the Carpenter Theatre has been fully refurbished to it's former glory - along with new seats (very roomy and comfortable), and a re-built balcony and loge section. But it basically looks, looked like I remember it looking - which is a good thing. It's a very old-fashioned interior - sort of faux-Spanish, faux-Arabian(?) decor - lots of stucco walls, and almost-Crayola-like color palate.
Acoustically speaking, I think there's still some work to be done. We had decent seats for today's concert, and while there was a nice bit of clarity to everything, nothing really seemed to "soar". Not exactly a flat sound, but it could and should be more vibrant. The piano actually got lost in the mix quite a few times during the concerto, but I think that could easily be fixed for the next pianist by simply placing the piano a little further upstage. -They installed a "cloud ceiling" - which looks like clouds (semi-Ugh!) - and I think that might have prevented the sound of the piano from projecting over the orchestra. And during the Berlioz "Symphonie Fantastique", I could tell that the sections of the orchestra that were sitting further upstage seemed to be heard more in the house. -At least to my ears. But, again, all in all, it was a good concert.
-
I used to be fast and fun when I was younger.
Much younger.
And much faster too?
-
I was never fast. Or fun.
-
Thanks for the report DR JOSE.
Thanks DR DAW - your opinion has been notated.
DO we still have a live chat room or have we upgraded and lost it?
Well, if a number of DRs are on AOL/AIM or GMail or Yahoo!...
I ordered Volume One Gordon Scott - 2 Tarzan movies
Volume One - Three Lex Barker Tarzan movies
Volume Two - Two additional Lex Barker movies. [these are homegrown DVD's]
Volume One - Three Lex Barker Movies arrived and would not play. The seller told me to send Volume One of the Lex Barker movies back and he would replace it. I received the replacement yesterday - but it only had two movies on it....Tarzan's Peril with Lex Barker, the one I really wanted of all the Lex movies was not there.
I emailed the seller this morning. And he just answered me. I wonder what his response will be....
what do other DR's here think?
Hmmm. I bet you're out of luck, JRand.
What we believe happen, your 1st DVD case did say "Tarzan's Peril" was on the Vol 1. It was not advertised and was a mistake on you DVD case. We checked with production and confirmed this did happen on a few orders, as well with yours. we are sorry for this.
We try to do business with honest people and separate ourselves from dishonest people. This is the challenge of all eBay sellers. Jack you are one of the honest people. We would like to offer you "Tarzan's Peril" Free to thank you for being a great eBay member. We will ship ASAP.
I am craving ice cream. I guess I should eat it tongiht since I decided that I'll go back to dieting tomrrow...
-
Considering the number of people on the site right now, we should be on Page 10!
-
Ok, everyone 1, 2, 3 POST!
-
Thank you, Cilla, you just reminded me that I have a pint of B & J's Karamel Surta calling my name.
I might as well have ice cream for dessert, since I had KFC for dinner.
During the intermission of today's concert, I tried to get backstage to see the pianist/soloist. Well... I had spoken to one of the symphony's administrators before the concert - they were all in attendance today greeting everyone as they entered the hall - and she told me to "go through those doors and head straight back" to get to the Artist's Dressing Room. So, I went through the "those doors", down a hallway, but then there were no other doors. Well, there were doors that led right to the stage, but I most certainly did not want to make a surprise appearance. So, I headed back out to the upper lobby. Did you make it backstage? No, I didn't, but that's OK. I'll catch up with him once we're both back in NYC.
Then I got a text... "Are you coming backstage?" So... I made one more attempt to find the Artist's Dressing room. I went down another hallway this time and saw the signs to the dressing rooms. That's when the guard stopped me. Excuse me, do you have a backstage pass of credentials?" Um, no, but I was sent back here by so-and-so with the symphony. Well, I can't let you backstage without the proper clearance. You can go back to the lobby through these doors.
-Did you find your friend this time? No, but that's OK.
Then I got another text: "Where are you?"...
Then came the phone call: "Stay right where you are. I'll come out to the lobby."
-By that time, intermission was about to end, and I did not want to be late for the second half of the concert, so... But Jeremy appeared a few seconds later, we said Hi, shook hands, hugged, I thanked him again for arranging the tickets, and I ran back upstairs to the theatre, and he headed to the airport for his flight back to NYC...
Of course, it had turned out that Jeremy and I had been playing a game of cat and mouse throughout the 15-minute intermission. He even went into the theater to find me where I was sitting - but I was already backstage for the second time by then.
*I guess I should mention that he even played an encore after his concerto performance, some Bach, from the fourth keyboard Partita.
-
Thank you, Cilla, you just reminded me that I have a pint of B & J's Karamel Surta calling my name.
Boy, that's something I wouldn't forget I have.
-
Boy, that's something I wouldn't forget I have.
Me neither.
-
I had weight watchers peanut butter delight. It tastes really good. You just don't get much
-
Thanks for the concert report, DR JoseSPiano. Sorry you didn't have more time to chat with your friend.
-
Can we spell B-L-I-M-P?
I can't. But I don't need to. I have a mirror.
-
And I know how to use it.
-
And then...
After the concert, I received a text from Jeremy saying that his flight was delayed for two hours, so... Steve and I headed out to the airport, picked him up, headed to the nearest TGIFriday's for a drink and some apps and some sparking conversation, then deposited him back at the airport about an hour later.
As we were driving off, I got another text: "My flight is delayed another hour." -I hope he makes it back tonight.
-
With six you get eggroll.
Oh! You meant the mirror.
The Music and the Mirror.
-
Oh...
And since my parents are actually up in Atlantic City this weekend... And since, after calling my Mom earlier, I found out that my Dad had put a new lock on the front door... And since I don't have the key for said new lock, well... I'm staying at Steve's place again tonight.
-
That is interesting about the cruise website, DR TCB. A chance to form cliques even before you step on board!! :P
-
I'm sure it's nothing personal, DR JoseSPiano. ;)
That was my impression, DAW.
DR Jose - this reminds me of when I went away for 2 days of college freshman orientation and, when I got home, discovered that my mother had given my bed away.
In all fairness, we were moving out of the house the next day and I had new twin beds waiting for me in my new bedroom.
-
I found out a few weeks after I left home for college that there was someone sleeping in my bed back home... a German foreign exchange student! He ended up staying for the rest of the school year!
About to watch Mad Men.
-
Very excited to put up our new titles tonight. Something for everyone. I suspect the soundtrack release is going to go very fast.
-
In other matters, Richard and I have added a couple of destinations to our NYC agenda: The Morgan Library and the Strand Bookstore. We've been to the Morgan before, but it was at the end of a long conference day for me - we'd like to be able to explore more thoroughly. And, we've NEVER been to the Strand. Should we try to do both in the same day? Would any NYC DRs like to go with us?
-
I may have posted this the other night already, but just in case I didn't...
If any DR happens to be interested in the Chinese meal I had the other night - which included "sea worms" (otherwise known as "sea penises" in some circles) - just CLICK HERE (http://ericeatsout.blogspot.com/2009/10/m-t-restaurant-revisited.html).
-
DR Ginny - you probably haven't seen the Morgan since their multi-million dollar update/expansion. It's really spectacular - I know you'll love it!
-
Wow, DR JoseSPiano - that was some meal! Very interesting.
-
Very interesting, but I don't think I could eat the sea worms
-
About to watch Mad Men.
On Twitter, Andy Borowitz summarizes: Tonight on Mad Men: The gang is oblivious to historical events we know about, and we howl with superiority. :)
-
Wow! I haven't seen this many DRs all in the Living Room all at the same time in many an age!
In the old days, BK used to open up the live chat room. That was always fun.
You know, I was thinking about the days when we used the chat room. Good times! Especially enjoyable during the Emmys and Oscars.
Maybe the coolest people don't have internet...other than TCB that is
The ice cream is finished, and so.......................
G'night!
Both are doable in the same day. Just wear comfortable shoes. Also, while the Morgan Library is roomy, airy and spacious, the Strand is most decidedly not. *Frankly, unless you're really looking to buy some used books, I'd suggest hitting some of the other smaller used bookstores if you want to spend some quality browsing time. However, the Strand is right off of Union Square, and if you visit on a Greenmarket Day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday).... -And it would be a nice tie-in with Ragtime too.
-
DR Ginny - you probably haven't seen the Morgan since their multi-million dollar update/expansion. It's really spectacular - I know you'll love it!
Yes, DR DAW, it had just reopened when we were there 3 years ago, but I was too tired to fully appreciate it.
RAPID RECOVERY VIBES TO ARNOLD BROCKMAN!!
CBS schedule on the East Coast will be delayed at least one hour.
That is why I am SO very grateful that CBS puts its CBS/Paramount produced shows on HD On Demand on my Time-Warner cable service. I can watch THREE RIVERS there and don't have the slightest problem trying to program when it might happen to come on during football season.
I can read it right side up and up side down. I've seen this before and think it's pretty cool. I learned to read upside down very quickly by going over so many documents with clients
Really only 55 out of a 100 can read it? I could read it easily. What does it say about you if you can read it.
-
thank you Ginny! I am so looking forward to seeing you and Richard on Saturday!!
-
Wow, DR JoseSPiano - that was some meal! Very interesting.
It really was. As was mentioned in the post, the first time we went there, we were the only table that did not have the "sea worms", so... Luckily, our waitress - who happened to be the wife of the owner/cook - let us order a half-portion of the "sea worms" just in case we didn't like them. Well, we did like them, but we were glad we only ordered a half portion since the rest of our meal came in such generous portions.
-
I'm glad the canadian channel that carries TAR is never delayed. I don't think i'd mind watching a few minutes late. But i like having the show on at 8pm.
I saw the baseball game was running way over. And boy was it snowy!
HEALTH VIBES TO CILLA'S SISTER
Well what do you know?
Jack, Thank you for your email. Your question has been given a lot of time and effort from our company. The 1st question we had was, "when I ordered Volume One it was advertised to contain 3 movies".
we checked the listing, here is the page you placed your order:
What we believe happen, your 1st DVD case did say "Tarzan's Peril" was on the Vol 1. It was not advertised and was a mistake on you DVD case. We checked with production and confirmed this did happen on a few orders, as well with yours. we are sorry for this.
You got these instead of the Warner Archive versions. I suppose money was the reason? Or hasn't that particular Barker movie come out in the archive version yet?
-
I watched two Bollywood movies tonight, both horror films from the 1990s, and both remakes of American horror films.
JUNOON (1992) starring Rahul Roy as a man who kills a tiger on a full moon night in a rural area full of superstitious villagers. The tiger kills the man's friend and then puts a curse on the guy who will now turn into a tiger himself, during each full moon.
Remake of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON.
PAPI GUDIA (1996) starring Avinash Wadhavan, Karisma Kapoor, and Master Amar. A doll from the 99 cent store is possesed by a child killer.
Remake of CHILD'S PLAY.
Both movies were quite a lot of fun.
There are a few in the West Village - some just a few blocks away from Magnolia Bakery. ;) There is also one on 18th Street just across the street from Academy Records - just in case you want to browse some used LPs, CDs and DVDs too.
-
Very interesting, but I don't think I could eat the sea worms
Try it! You'll like it!
:D
-
so apparently I can stop worrying about my bad typing skills
;D
And a belated CONGRATULATIONS to you and the DH on your anniversary!! :)
-
Consider me 1 of the 55.
-
DR Vixmom - we're looking forward to seeing you and The Vixter, too!
-
Congratulations to Vixmom and Vixdad on 22 years of Happily Ever After!
-
Vixmom and Vixdad, happy 22 nd!!!
-
Jose - your dinner last night reminds me of a story Vixdad tells of when he first came to America - his boss took him and a few of the other "lads" out for holiday meal to a Chinese restarant down in Chinatown and ordered for the table - Vixdad says he stopped at eating at course 47 which was in fact 'Sea Cucumber"
-
Thank you, Cilla, you just reminded me that I have a pint of B & J's Karamel Surta calling my name.
I might as well have ice cream for dessert, since I had KFC for dinner.
Can we spell B-L-I-M-P?
During the period I was having my terrible physical problems, I first completely lost my appetite, but it eventually came back with a vengeance. DUring the time I was in such pain, the ONLY comfort I had was in food, and I decided I didn't care how much I gained as long as something was bringing me a little joy.
I know I gained about 15 pounds during the time I was trying to get over my malady because I couldn't really exercise for fear of making the problems I was having worse.
Now, I am able to do a moderate amount of exercise in addition to the walking six days a week, and the weight is SLOWLY coming off. But I made NO apologies for trying to find anything that could give me some comfort and pleasure.
-
Consider me 1 of the 55.
And me.
-
Consider me
We definitely do, DR JoseSPiano. We definitely do. :)
-
We went to Shiro's, a Japanese hibachi restaurant for our celebratory dinner.
I am afraid it was a lot less adventurous than Jose's repast - but I did very much enjoy my hibachi steak and scallops
-
Congrats to Vixmom and Vixdad!!
-
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE VIXMOM AND THE VIXDAD!!!!!
-
As much as I hate to leave this sparkling crowd, my 5:30am wake-up call this morning just caught up with me.
'night!
-
thank you Laura and Mike!
-
I watched three more episodes of BONES including the one with Booth and Bones solving a murder on an airplane headed for China. One of the best episodes of the season.
-
Good night Ginny!
-
thank you Cilla and Jose!
-
Also watched the episode which featured Booth playing hockey (David Boreanaz is obviously a trained hockey player). Enjoyable with a good mystery.
-
I was very pleased with the team that went home on TAR
Thanks for that link, DR JOse...what an amazing meal. I wish we had that kind of Chinese food available here. Now I am hungry.
And if you click on the header to take you the main part of the blog, you can read about some of my other recent meals. ;)
*I'm guessing you may have that kind of Chinese restaurant in your neck of the woods. However, I'm guessing that it may only be "marked" in Chinese and not in English.
-
Sea Penises - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Tonight's DEXTER was the best episode of the season thus far. A really cunning adversary for Dexter and a shocking development in the Holiday Murderer case.
-
I do have a tentative title for my new book - not completely sure, but so far the people I've mentioned it to seem to think it's catchy. I have a backup, too. Not loving tonight's Mad Men.
-
Tomorrow's work project A will be Disney's made-for-video TINKER BELL AND THE LOST TREASURE. It arrived on Friday, but I'm trying to get through the Fox discs since they came out on the 6th of October, and TINKER BELL doesn't come out until the 27th.
-
*I'm guessing you may have that kind of Chinese restaurant in your neck of the woods.
The kind of Chinese restaurant that serves pizza?
nor should you! I hope you are doing well now
Were they ever able to determine the cause of the problem?
-
Sea Penises - that's the title of my next novel.
I'm already imagining DR FJL's re-write of "Under the Sea"!! :)
-
!!!!!!!!!!! Happy 22nd Anniversary to DR vixmom and vixdad !!!!!!!!!!!
-
DR Laura - Do you think that you and the Goldstein girls would like a small collection of genuine Long Island seashells?
-
Sea Penises - that's the title of my next novel.
I'm already imagining DR FJL's re-write of "Under the Sea"!! :)
well now I am too!
-
Thank you Elmore!!
Will you be seeing the show with us on Saturday and just joining us at John's Pizza afterwards?
-
I did something a bit crazy, considering all the expenses I have coming up, I bid on an online auction our local newspaper sponsored for local businesses and won....a plant or arrangements of flowers every month for a year. I spent a little more than I wanted to, but way way less than it would cost to really get this. It alternates one month a plant and the next a floral arrangement. I think it will be a wonderful addition to my reception area
-
Vixmom - written your amazon review yet :)
-
Which should make it tax deductible....right FJL?
-
Finally a nice little plot point on Mad Men. I've grown so tired of Don Draper's latest indiscretion and I want more Peggy - at least she's in this episode, but not much.
-
Alas, no AMC on Steve's cable system, so no "Mad Men" for me tonight. -Guess I'm gonna be spending a lot of time with my DVR once I'm back in NYC on Tuesday.
-
I meant to mention this earlier today:
UGLY BETTY's two hour season premiere was not an auspicious return to network airwaves. It ran third overall over the course of the two hours falling to CBS' GHOST WHISPERER and MEDIUM and Fox's baseball playoffs. In the first hour, it also ran behind NBC's LAW & ORDER.
-
Vixmom - written your amazon review yet :)
I am afraid not - but I have been thinkingabout it and that's a start!
-
I forgot to mention I had time to watch this week's episode of THE OFFICE with idiot Michael thinking an Italian insurance salesman was part of the mob. Hilarious from beginning to end. Loved the episode.
-
DR Laura - Do you think that you and the Goldstein girls would like a small collection of genuine Long Island seashells?
Uh... did they come from sea penises?
-
Now I'm going to head downstairs and get ready for bed.
Good night!
-
DR Laura - Do you think that you and the Goldstein girls would like a small collection of genuine Long Island seashells?
Uh... did they come from sea penises?
not a one!
-
god nigth Matt
-
They Came From Sea Peanises...
Sounds like the kind of movie that DR MBarnum would watch. ;)
-
DR vixmom - NOW you're doing that on purpose!! :)
-
But even then....it should end with the correct letter so it's a typo of an intentional misspelling...lol sorry Vixmom, but that made me chuckle
-
Since [I hope] I won't be up at 3:00 AM...
~~~SAFE & EASY TRAVEL VIBES~~~
FOR DR JMK & CLAN!!!!!!!
-
Well, they are stretching the plot point to the extreme, which is VERY annoying - one is waiting for a scene which will probably not happen tonight. Stupid.
-
I'm watching Three Rivers while I wait for Cold Case to start. Don't think I really like this show, but I'm watching it anyway
-
Michael is back in Florida
-
Welcome home, DR Michael S.!!!!!!
-
welcome back home Michael -
i am glad to hear you dad is doing well
-
DR vixmom - NOW you're doing that on purpose!! :)
darn it all - no I didn't
it must be server issues ...yeah that's the ticket!
-
Thank you Elmore!!
Will you be seeing the show with us on Saturday and just joining us at John's Pizza afterwards?
I do not know yet. My friend Chris is seeing the show, too, and he will also join us.
-
And since I have to wake up at 7:00 - when Steve wakes up...
Goodnight.
-
Play it, Floris (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Cq8Xln9iDc)!!! ;)
-
I just caught up to all I missed - continued Health Vibes for Papsaurus - and now I must get ready for bed - good night all!
Have a lovely tomorrow!
-
Anniversary congrats to DR VIXMOM and THE VIXDAD.
-
Yes, DR MATTH - price was a top consideration in my Tarzan purchases. And yes all of the Lex Barker TARZANS are available from WB Archives. I got all 7 movies for the price of one.
-
Yes TAR was fine tonight - and the result will make it even more interesting.
MAD MEN was wacky.....but everyone looked so great at the party!
-
I got all 7 movies for the price of one.
PLUS a fortune cookie.
-
Hello! Yesterday Vixdad and I celebrated 22 years of wedded bliss
A Very Happy Anniversary to DR Vixmom and Vixdad!!
-
Finished with my viewing and have begun the long journey of the Beatles Box listening. I'm currently on their first album, which sounds pretty amazing.
-
I aplogize for being off the site. My Hernia operation has hit me pretty hard and I am hurting. You'll be hearing from me soon
Hope you'll stop hurting soon!
-
*And, Thanks, for the link on your Blog Roll, DR MBarnum. -I guess that means I should start blogging again. ::)
Yes, you should!!
-
You know how you can look at something over a long period of time but when something's different, you don't know what's different? Well, that's what happened to me. I had boxes in my garage and at some point (as long as maybe a couple of months ago), I thought things seemed different, but I didn't know how, so I didn't really think about it. My bad. Well, I went to look for a specific musical cast recording in one of the boxes in my garage...most my musicals are in alphabetical order in eight specifically marked boxes (I do have newer theater recordings in my house and at work). I was looking for Groucho: A Life In Song, because Frank Ferrante is coming to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts next Saturday (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/season/season_detail.asp?event_id=1095). I'm ushering and I thought that I might be able to send the CD backstage to get his autograph. So, I looked in box #5 (the first one that I saw) but that started in the Ls, so I looked for box #4. I went around my pile of boxes and eventually found box #s 1, 7 and 8, but I couldn't find box #4...then I realized that I didn't see box #s 2 and 3, either! And then I realized that a couple of boxes with DVDs are missing! I looked all through my house and they're not there. I know that I didn't take them out of my garage or give them to anyone. I'VE BEEN ROBBED! But I don't know when it happened. :-[
So...I need advice. What should I do now? Should I go to the police or call my insurance company first? I know that there's no way that I can get anything back. It really has been at least a couple of months. I do have personal property loss on my homeowner's insurance, but will I have figure out everything that's missing? WHY DIDN'T I REALIZE WHAT HAPPENED SOONER??
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! :'(

I guess I'll do the jog in about thirty minutes and then call Grant to see if we're getting together because, after all, it's get together weather.
It's mighty fine weather, I hope that it stays!

Hi, Edisaurus.
-
Shocking DR GEORGE. In any case, you will need a police report, so making a non emergency call is probably where to start.
-
Listening to the Beatles second album and finished re-reading my play, which I must say has some really funny dialogue and some touching stuff. I can see why it would make some people uncomfortable (my friend Penny Peyser didn't like it because it made her uncomfortable, whereas my muse Margaret loved it, as did the folks who took part in the two private readings we did). I'm thinking about doing another private reading but not with me reading the lead - I think I'd like to hear someone else read it.

Maybe someone is giving you the Gaslight treatment, and tomorrow the boxes will be back.
-
Hi, George!
-
And a Hpapy Aninvesrray to Vxiomm and hbbuy!

Papasaurus was really out of it yesterday---very worrisome. But today he was "back" and they may spring him tomorrow! Thanks for the continued vibes!

In CLOSER news, I'm working on the launch of the episodes which will air in December. The first episode will see a new addition to the Brenda and Fritz household. A very small and furry addition. :-) I heartily approve.
-
The first episode is pretty dark and intense, but the second one lightens up when Provenza is reunited with one of his former work partners to solve a case. In the interim, his partner had a sex change. May I say that Beau Bridges looks quite cute in a dress!
-
DR JMK, thanks for the recommendation---I'll check them out!
-
TCM in HD? Just in time for the crapfest I just finished. Of course, we made an HD version for home video, but I don't think TCM asked for one, so it will be interesting to see if it airs in HD.
-
MBarnum, congrats on your blog. I'll check it out when it's not 2AM!

Thanks, Jack. I know that a call to 911 is NOT an option.

Yes! And my records are very safe.

They Came From Sea Peanises...
Sounds like the kind of movie that DR MBarnum would watch. ;)
And I think I have the lobby card set from that one.
-
Well, since we're so close...
-
Page 11 Dance.
I won't dance...don't ask me.
-
"See Penis."
Is that what Adelaide said in her song in GUYS & DOLLS?
-
MR BK must be working on the notes.
-
Five guests?
-
Who knew? ;)
