I'm getting a new computer at the office today. Well, it's used but we take what we can get.

Then I will finish Gates, which I thought was finished last week but it wasn't and then a meeting and then whatever.

I get to set up my new computer. For a geek like me, that's fun!

Good morning, all! I have to be at Toyland by 11, so my time here will be brief. I finally got a rather snippy response from my week long  barrage of inquiries to the LoC and I'm debating resigning from the Life Begins at 8:40 project. I could use the work, I could definitely use the money, I like the work I've done, but I dislike the needless angst this project has provoked.

First stop today is the post office, then Toyland. More later.

Today's work project will be to finish BONES - Season 4 on Blu-ray. I'm guestimating that I have six episodes left to watch. There are some bonus features on the last disc in the set, but I'm not quite sure how many. I should be able to finish up with the set today. I have yet to write a single word of the review, however, since I've been watching and reviewing other things while I watched these BONES episodes.

TOmorrow I'll start work on another box set - THE GUARDIAN, one of Simon Baker's other TV series before THE MENTALIST. I've never seen a single episode of the show, so it will be exciting experiencing this for the first time with an actor I really like.

Back from the jeweler and it's too early to meet my friend at the park.  I was going to spend the hour at our local public library, but due to budget cuts they're now opening at 10am instead of 9.

They are going to rebuild all 4 prongs on my engagement ring.  Kinda pricey, but cheaper (both in dollars and emotions) than replacing the diamond.  The really surprising thing is that the cost is the same amount I was quoted to rebuild a similar ring in 1990.  We decided then, when we were living on one income, that it wasn't worth the investment.

We're baaaaack.  Got home to two very exciting emails, not sure if either will pan out, but there's an offer to provide a soundtrack to a video game and, perhaps more lucrative, a very well known jazz artist is interested in a holiday tune of mine (which Elmore has heard).  The Fox royalties on that one alone could buy at least 3 or 4 Blu-rays.  :)

OMG!  I completely forgot that I saw him in that, too, on a trip to San Francisco.  Yes, DR Ginny--he wasn't the grandest of Oscar Jaffes.  But he did look like he was having a fun time up on the stage...

I think this was also the performance I saw where the train model kept stalling in the middle of the stage and two stagehands came out at one point to push it with a stick.

I've always felt that Rock Hudson was a tad under-rated as an actor.  He could, with the help of a good script and a strong director easily jump from light comedy to heavy (and sometimes heavy-handed) drama.  When I was very young, I often mixed up Rock Hudson and John Gavin, both stalwart, swarthy handsome men with finely chiseled features.  Once I got over that confusion, I found that Hudson was the more interesting actor - even in PSYCHO and SPARTACUS John Gavin is bland.  That said, it's off to the T.O.D., favorite Rock Hudson performances:

A good haircut. A nice walk on The Highline. A nice stroll through Chelsea Market - there are a couple of new stores, including a Jacques Torres' Chocolate "kiosk". I was talking with Tina, who's from their main office, and as I was leaving she asked if I would like a free cookie - their "warmer" was in overdrive, so it over-warmed (melted) some of them, so... YUM!  I also checked out the new butcher shop, Dickson's Farmland Meats.  Quite a nice selection, and the cuts of meat are butchered and prepped right in the shop, right in front of your eyes (should you wish to observe).

Good man, always checking out the meat!

Packages have been packed and taken to the postal office.  Now I'll either do the long jog or a short jog or no jog and then go lug the big boxes to the UPS Store - I feel like I've already done my exercise for the day, but we'll see.

Jrand, Pat Colby played the college student looking for his date while holding two glasses of liquid refreshment during the party scene. I kind of liked him as well..I mean that he was full of talent.

The tall guy I am looking for seems to be completely uncredited, as are several of Jill Corey's female roommates.

Did you miss the first half of the film? If so let me know, 'cause I burned it onto disc and I can send you a copy if you care to watch the whole thing.

On MattH's recommendation (via his comments here), I splurged on the Amazon Deal o'the Day and got all three BD Bond sets, which arrived today.  I had a promotional coupon so I got each for around $25, which isn't bad for 3 BDs per set.

I got my flu shot here at work on Friday.  We were supposed to pay $10 on the spot but no one was collecting money.

Maybe that's why the area on my upper arm where I got the shot has been itching--because I haven't paid for it.

I spent much of the late morning and afternoon watching BONES episodes. Some really good ones, too, including some with laugh-out-loud gags. The whole episode revolving around a funeral where the gang hijacks the corpse to take back to the lab is just loaded with humor.

I was looking forward to a good time with one of my best friends and now I'm really pissed. I was told by the RSVP person "We are unfortunately asking a lot of people who put a lot of time and effort into our production to limit themselves to one party pass." I wrote back, "I wasn't asked, I was told." Fuckem.

Congrats for the offers and good luck!

I am back from spending the evening at Lincoln Center.  At Alice Tully Hall, there was a memorial tribute to George Weissman, who passed away this past summer.  He was the CEO of Phillip Morris, and later the Chairman of Lincoln Center.  And my DH's aunt was his assistant for much of his working career.

There were spoken tributes from family and friend and prominent business associates.  We also had Mozart via a string quartet and jazz from Winton Marsalis and friends.  It was quite a tribute to a great man, a great patron of the arts, and a passionate advocate for corporate support for the visual and performing arts.

Got the last two episodes of BONES watched. That included that controversial coma/dream episode where Booth and Brennan are married, and all the characters from the season (regulars and recurring) take part in a murder mystery at their nightclub The Lab. I disliked the episode intensely when I first watched it. I liked it much better the second time around since I saw how wittily writer/show creator Hart Hanson used all of the characters in their new personas.

DR elmore - I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to bring a guest to the Opening Night Party.  Heck, most opening parties end up filled with "crashers" and people who never even went to the show that night. Now, unless they're planning on having a sit down dinner, or they're holding it in a very small space and they're worried about the Fire Marshall showing up, well.. Heck, I'm sure that sure that other people know Bruce Pomahac, and if he's chatting with other people while going into the party, no one will bother to ask for his pass/ticket.  -Frankly, I'm surprised that Bruce wasn't already invited on his own.

There is a write in campaign going on to write in Jake the dog for city council in the upcoming election. I'm going to be Jake for Halloween.  I have a dog costume, so it will just take a few adjustments.  And I got invited to a halloween costume party today....perfecto!

Actually, I just got back from two hours at the dentist's office, and I feel like I just went ten rounds with Mike Tyson (except I still have both ears).

...As well as the rest of your body parts?

It was a drizzly rainy night..... not quite as foreboding as a dark and stormy night, but it's what the weatherman just said

I am afraid I will be at work at that time --- I suppose leaving them in the lobby until Saturday morning is completely out of the question!

Several changes in the show tonight, and two more bars that need fixing added to the music before the finale. I will go in and fix that tomorrow. I did talk to Rob before the performance about the party situation: the orchestra was given additional tickets for dates so I'm considered lower than the band. Rob wants Bruce to be at the party as well, so I'm leaving it in his hands.

DR MattH, that was indeed a very good episode of CASTLE...and did you notice that the director was former actor John Terlesky? One of my few favorite 1980s performers.

It is a William Castle night on TCM.  The Tingler is on now.  I have that DVD and the one for the movie coming up afterwards....13 Ghosts.....but I haven't seen his version of The Old Dark House.  So I may try to stay awake for that.

I went to the post office and dropped off the overseas packages, so I've just got two more to take over there in  the morning after the jog.  The Brent and Brain booklets are going on the press Thursday.  The masters should be to the pressing plant on Friday, and we'll probably have CDs about a week after that, really early.  I'm getting 100 extra booklets here by Monday, which I'll Fed Ex to Brent to sign and he'll Fed Ex them back to me.
