Good morning, all! I slept very well except for a peculiar final dream involving petty jealousies and rivalries on Broad Street in Middletown, Ohio. There was somethng about getting someone fired from a job and I believe a drug test was also involved. In true soap opera tradition, I was aware of the real status of the test and then I woke up.

So, I'll have some coffee and ponder what I will do today. I'm thinking I might run down to the FINIAN'S RAINBOW matinee and see everyone, and I have music to be edited.

Good morning!

Looks to be a beautiful day outside. It was cold this morning, the coldest since I started back walking in September, and I had to have a jacket as well as the sweatshirt I was wearing. But it was a brisk walk, and I enjoyed it. Highs in the 50s only today.

We had a wonderful day here in Florida.  My neices arrived safely on Wednesday night, despite some bad weather.

Yesterday, we spent several hours swimming in the morning, and then I headed in to help with the food preparations.

We had a delightful meal, with some wonderful company.

Today I start to work on LOST - Season 5 on Blu-ray. It will be so much fun to revisit these episodes since I haven't seen the show since it ended its season in May. There are a ton of bonus features in the set, too, so even though LOST doesn't have as many episodes as a standard episode-length season of a regular series, it'll still likely take me three days to get through everything. Can't wait to get started on it.

A TV reminder:

UGLY BETTY has a new episode tonight.

Unless folks start watching again, this appears to be its final season on the air. Now the talk is that ABC isn't going to move the show which I think is a really stupid decision since Wednesday night is one of the lightest-viewed nights during the week, and 8 p.m. is a time slot which has no true dominating show that wins the slot every week. UGLY BETTY could establish a beachhead there (possibly). I think it would be worth a two or three show trial there.

On the other hand, MEDIUM and GHOST WHISPERER are both reruns tonight. MONK and WHITE COLLAR should be new episodes.

Happy Day After, kidz. I couldn't reach our Jane yesterday - the phones were off to give her day-after surgery peace and slumber.

I'll be driving back to LA today - CD player in the car is set with Celtic Colors - perfect for the drive through the trackless expanse of desert. A little Vivaldi ready for when I hit California.

Last night's drive back from my cousin's house with my Chuckster was - oh, let's call it "eventful" -- perhaps I'll be able to talk about it at a later hour... However, today all are hale and hearty and recovering nicely... oy...

Friday morning greetings!  My sister, niece, and I survived our shopping trip at the Vera Bradley store and then had a nice breakfast at Java Johnny's, the coffee shop just up the street from our house.  My sister filled me in on all her recent genealogy research and gave me the first photograph I've ever seen of our paternal grandmother.

When Laura and I got to Gram's to pick up my sister, my brother-in-law was already out shopping.  We had a good laugh over that.

Remember my little rant about the gluttony of certain record labels?  I can basically boil it down to one, and though they put out great stuff, the way in which they like to do their little announcements and then continue to try and trump others is getting a little irritating to not only me but to other labels.  So, last week FSM starts preorders for a 15 CD Rozsa set at $180.  Then Intrada announces two two CD sets, one of which is a complete release of Back To The Future.  Before anyone can even breathe, another label today announces THREE releases at once, one a two CD set.  And two of them are what could only be called as blockbuster.  This sort of gluttony knows no precedent as far as I can see - because the third, while not blockbuster is, for some, even more desirable, Les Baxter's Panic In The Year Zero.  The other two?  A two CD complete The Fugitive (the Harrison Ford movie version) and Jerry Goldsmith's Innerspace.  But, none of this is the point - the POINT is they announced today.  But they don't start taking orders until noon on Tuesday.  So, in essence they screw up release plans for anyone else by basically making it a two-step deal.  Again, completely unheard of.  I was the only one announcing next week - I planned it carefully.  But now we have announcement today that no one can actually order until Tuesday, which, in essence, is the REAL announcement.  And, that's another seventy bucks for people to spend their hard-earned money on.  I now have to push our announcement to Wednesday at midnight, maybe Thursday, and possibly into next week, although FSM has two more titles that are being announced and also maybe next week or the week after.  I literally cannot keep up, and the game-playing is getting just a little nauseating.  I certainly do not want this, our first release from a prominent studio, to get lost in the shuffle, because it's an incredible release, and I've got an equally terrific one following that.  I could announce them both together but why do that to people?  At least give a week or two of breathing room.  I gotta tell you.

BBC ABANDONS BALLET WITH DEFORMED RAPIST POPE

The BBC has abandoned plans to screen a ballet featuring a deformed Pope who rapes nuns that it had announced as one of the highlights of its Christmas schedule.

Last month the corporation said it would televise "In The Spirit Of Diaghilev" from London's Sadler's Wells Dance Theatre as part of a season of ballet programs.

The tribute to the Russian impresario comprises four acts, each by a groundbreaking choreographer, with the entire production due to be screened on BBC Four next month.

But it wasn't until the production premiered at Sadler's Wells that the BBC discovered that one of the acts, "Eternal Damnation To Sancho And Sanchez" by Javier de Frutos, centers on a group of "horny" priests and a fictional hunchback Pope, who rapes eunuchs and pregnant nuns.
...

Maybe they could pair "Eternal Damnation To Sancho And Sanchez"  with "The Nutcracker".

Maybe Bruce should remount "The First Nudie Musical" as a ballet

As for yesterday's Thanksgiving Feast here in Richmond:

In attendance: Mom, Dad, Myself, my brothers, Don and Mike; Mike's kids: John Michael, Alyssa & Emily; and Don's two dogs: Iki and Jax (short for "Jumping Jacks Flash").  -Don's daughter, Alexandra, was spending the holiday down in Virginia Beach with her other grandparents; and my brother, Jay, is West Coasting this year.

On the table: turkey, ham, stuffing/dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes (with LOTS of marshmallows), cranberry relish (the canned jellied stuff (which I like)), mashed potatoes, rice (of course), sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie.

Best of all: NO Drama.

To be clear, the RELEASES of other labels don't make me mad at all, and I buy them happily.  It's the WAY in which this one company has been trying to one-up every other label, by either moving up release dates to trump them, or doing these split announcements, order dates, which, in essence, is two announcements.

I'll just announce when I announce and it will be what it will be - but the gluttony is going to ultimately cause more harm than gain - it's already started, as a matter of fact.

Can someone please remind me how I can post a photo here - something that is stored on my computer.  I see the image option in the reply box, but don't know how to go from there.  Thanks.

The Image feature only works for picture files that are hosted on the Internet.
To display a file that is on your computer:

When in the Reply window, select “Additional Options” – bottom left of screen.

At the bottom of the expanded window is an Attach option.

Use the Browse button to select the desired photo file on your computer.

Then hit “Post” – DO NOT PREVIEW

der Brucer

Thanks!!!

I'm gonna try it now.

Part of this day has been frustrating beyond belief. Before going grocery shopping, I stopped at an ATM which immediately ate my debit card. I had exactly $0 in my wallet.

SO, I had to go back home, phone the bank to report the eaten card and malignant ATM, get a new card on its way to me, and then I wrote a check and headed to the bank so I could have some money in my wallet. It didn't take ALL that long, but I had planned on getting shopping done early and being back home early. As it turned out, I ended back home after grocery shopping at the time I'm USUALLY back home. Argh!

Once I got home and got my Thanksgiving leftovers/dinner prepared (and BOY was it ever good; almost as good warmed over as it was when it was hot yesterday.)

I watched last night's THE MENTALIST while I ate lunch. It was a repeat of the season opener, and it was a wonderful episode. I really enjoyed seeing it again.

Once that was done, I began on my work project - LOST - Season 5 on Blu-ray.

Needless to say, the Blu-rays are phenomenal to look at. If there is any program on TV that comes closest to movie-level production values, it's LOST. Both picture and DTS-HD MA 5.1 sound are reference quality for television, and visually, nothing tops the look of these episodes.

I got all of disc one finished: that's three complete episodes, plus a commentary with the season premiere (which I listened to completely) and a bonus feature called "Starter Set" which basically took five minutes to quickly summarize the story up to this point. I didn't need it, but I watched it anyway, and it was funny hearing all of the tangled plots sorted out in such a clear fashion.

I got halfway through the first episode on disc two before I stopped.

ABC-TV Blu-rays come with a feature called SeasonPlay which holds your spot when you stop an episode, a kind of automatic bookmark that works beautifully. When I go back down later and start up the equipment again, it'll take me right to where I left off which is a feature not many advanced Blu-rays can achieve.

And, Dear Julie, before you ask -

If you want to embed images within your post text you need to host your pix on the internet. There is a free site - photobucket.com -  where you can open an account and then upload photos from your computer to be stored. Once they are in storage you will have an internet link for each photo that you can embed in your text. Your pictures remain private until you provide the link in a post.

EVERGREEN REVIEW (http://www.evergreenreview.com/120/electronic-book-burning.html)

Quote
...
The book is fast becoming the despised Jew of our culture. Der Jude is now Der Book. Hi-tech propogandists tell us that the book is a tree-murdering, space-devouring, inferior form of technology; that society would simply be better-off altogether if we euthanized it even as we begin to carry around, like good little Aryans, whole libraries in our pockets, downloaded on the Uber-Kindle.

Perhaps a tad overwrought.

Did anybody here watch the SURVIVOR clip show? My sis did not like it. But i loved it. There was so much new stuff. And i could not believe that the stuff they showed last week at the end (the preview for the next show) was actually for this week's recap. It had to do with russell letting the chicken out. I cannot believe that happened so long ago. I wonder why they didn't show it.

For some reason i had assumed that that was going to happen on the next episode and that people would be mad at him!

There are more and more people with christmas lights on outside (i prefer not to see them until dec). But today i saw something that shocked me. Someone had lights outside, but also a fully lit tree indoors.

Maybe this is more common in the US, because people get in the mood after thanksgiving. But here, i don't know anybody who puts up their tree before mid-dec.

The streets were busy, but I guess folks were buying everything but groceries. The store was the emptiest it's been in months. I was very happy, especially since I was there later than I had planned. The bank wasn't that bad, but I did have to wait to be helped. (I didn't use the drive through.)

I stopped at Target earlier to buy some underwear - since I had forgotten to pack any underwear the other afternoon... But since I needed some new underwear anyway, well...

I got there around 2:30, and even though the parking lot looked full, there didn't really seem to be that many people inside.  In fact, it looked like all 30 cash registers were manned and womanned, but most of the lines were only one to two-persons deep.  So, it turned out to be a rather quick trip to Target.

After my shopping and banking, I headed on over to Steve's place. Apparently someone in the apartment below him had burned some sort of food, and it was stinking up the whole building - well, mainly Steve's apartment.  We had sort of planned to hang out there for the afternoon, but since the smell seemed to morph from rotten cabbage to sewage to spoiled eggs to turned chicken, well...

We ended up in Carytown for a couple of hours.  I made my usual stops into For the Love of Chocolate and Mongrel, as well as Ukrop's.  -And it was nice to run into some old friends too while we were shopping and browsing.

And since my friend, Bradley, will be picking me up in the morning to head back to NYC, well...

Goodnight.

Has anybody here seen NEW MOON? I'm curious if it is any better than the first movie.

I haven't seen it, nor the first movie.  But the new guys on "At the Movies" said that "New Moon" is better than the first movie and they recommended it.

DRs FJL and elmore - AH!  Merle Louise!  I doubt she would even remember my name, but she's always been a complete and utter joy whenever I've played for her in auditions and callbacks.  She truly is a piece of Living Broadway History!  She always tells the best stories.

I love her in all the musicals that she's been in (that have been recorded)! :D

Our 22+ year old Kenmore vaccum cleaner finally gave up the ghost this week so we decided to take advantage of the Black Friday doorbuster sales at Sears to get a  new one - there is a little Sears Hardware store right  in town and they were virtually empty at 10 AM - a very nice salesperson took a great deal of time to show us the new models which were on sale and which were all made of cheap thin plastic - we told him that we were replacing our 22 year old Kenmore and he said he could guarantee that the new Kenmores wouldn't last more than 5 - 7 years .  As he struggled to open the tool compartment with it's crappy little plastic hinges I could see that the thing wouldn't last 6 months  in our house before the door was cracked off the hinges broken-  he then demonstrated the Dyson Ball DC 25 normally  $550 on special for $470 - however I happened to know that that same model was on sale at Kohl's (right down the block)for $399- plus I happened to have in my pocket a little card that would give me an additional 15% discount.  So off we went to Kohl's  which was likewise customer free - and we picked up the Dyson for $369 including tax ...and then they handed us $60 in "Kohl's Cash" so essentially the $550 vaccum cost us $309!!

And it worked beautifully on the rug, the ceramic tile floor and the hardwood floors!

I gotta tell you.  I never made it to a second movie, although I checked out some transfers on Blu-Rays that are sitting on my couch like so much fish.

Yes, it sound like you got a very good deal, Vixmom! Some friends have a Dyson and have been quite impressed with it. I'm impressed that it worked so well on all surfaces.

It's interesting to hear which stores got the crowds today. I had many errands to run. I stopped in at Staples to do a return with a preprinted address label. Staples DOES UPS returns, but the woman there, who I've had problems with before, insisted it wasn't a UPS package. (It was.) I drove the two blocks to Office Depot to discover there wasn't a parking place to be had. They had a big sale on. Their parking lot is usually quite empty. The Target near me is ALWAYS busy, with lines a mile long. I avoided it. It looks to me like a few items are selling very well, while much merchandise is just sitting. There are indeed some good deals to be had; I've seen lots of mark-downs.

I did no shopping whatsoever - apparently Gelson's doesn't know from Black Friday.

I'm just being nice and lazy, and I intend to continue doing so - I'm still thinking about announcing our Holy Grail release tonight at midnight.  A shame DAW is gone, as I know he'll want one, so I'll just make sure to hold it for him.

None of them.  They are all "just friends"  Two of the boys have been classmates since kindergarten - the one with the glasses has been a friend for the past three years - he was one of the kids involved in the mugging last August

The one to her right brought her the corsage
