Well, you've read the notes, the notes were perfectly boring, and now it is time for you to post until the perfectly boring cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GALLIMAUFRY!
-
Good morning all.
-
We had our load in yesterday and it all went smoothly. We are ready to begin bag packing on Monday morning at 10:00am
I came home exhausted. We cleaned up, had a bit to eat and then I went to bed. I am now eating my oatmeal. I won't be watching Arthur at 7:00am because it's a repeat of one broadcast earlier in the week.
I have to get a Hannukah present since it begins next Friday evening if my calendar is correct.
We were lucky the weather was so nice yesterday. Today we are supposed to have rain turning into possible snow. The sand trucks are out at 16th Street and the West Side Highway ready for action.
That's all for now.
-
Saturday!! A work day.

Hmmmmmmmmmm
TOD:

Gene Wilder in The Producers
Onstage - I have not seen many professional comedies.....Sally Struthers was over the top funny as Miss Lynch in GREASE!

Saturday morning greetings! I woke up early thinking about paperwork and such. After Richard's Messiah dress rehearsal this morning and UC's football game at noon, we're going to Lima to save some driving time tomorrow.
Now for some coffee.
-
DR Cillaliz - I love the desk!

They say we may have snow today here in New York! :D

DR Ben - commendations on your volunteer service!
-
Yes DR BEN - DR GINNY is correct. I have been remiss in commending your continued efforts!
And now off to work. Oh well.
-
Have a good day, DR JRand!
-
DR Ben - commendations on your volunteer service!
I agree!
-
Btw, I loved that "ditto" photo from last night. :)
-
Good morning, all! I have little planned today beyond a trek to Toyland. I'm still proofing the Main Report and I need to look at my note pads from 2003 for a 1903 Chicago news headline. Then I'm back here to finish up the Report and, hopefully, assemble everything into a new document. I would like to go to tonight'sperformance of FINIAN'S RAINBOW, and that will depend on how far I get.
That's my day, so I need to get to it.

Sorry I missed DR Elmore, because he will love the irony in This news story from his and Richard's alma mater (http://www.middletownjournal.com/news/middletown-news/miami-to-return-millions-in-donated-funds-433870.html)

Good morning!
It's a very gray day here. We had some rain this morning (there was spotty rain during my walk this morning, and I had taken along the umbrella which I used during the last 1/4 of the walk). It's getting colder, too. Below freezing tonight, so brrrr!
-
TOD:
Jack Lemmon as Professor Fate (and the Prince) in THE GREAT RACE.
Rosalind Russell as Sylvia Fowler in THE WOMEN.
-
With the weekend free of review items, I plan to watch some TV shows and I want to watch THREE STRANGERS from the DVR; I've never seen it before, and the cast is superb, so I'm looking forward to a good movie experience. I love Greenstreet and Lorre in THE VERDICT, and this looks equally as promising. (Joan Lorring is in both of those films, too).
-
I really need to do some shelf rearranging as I have Blu-ray discs all over the place that need someplace to be filed. Right now, space is tight, but I've got to get this done before I completely run out of room.
-

They are welcome to return it all to me if they wish. That should just about cover the new roof on La Manse. ;)

I never liked PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE much either. I don't hate it, and I wouldn't mind seeing it again to see if my opinion has changed. A friend loaned me the laserdisc in the 1990s. That's the last time I watched it.
Yes, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA looks very nice on Blu-ray. When I first got my player, I did an A/B comparison with the DVD using the "Masquerade" number as a comparison, and I was astonished at how the DVD, which I thought looked good, was really soft and a bit hazy compared to the sharpness and clarity of the Blu-ray.
I don't find the singing very compelling in the PHANTOM film. Butler and Rossum can carry a tune, but the singing is just there. There isn't much to support it (she's really wan as an expressive singer; she could NEVER have been a prima dona in an opera house with that small voice).
-
BK, please say Hello to our mutual book dealer pals for me, especially Malcolm and Chistine.

Greetoings from Toyland!

I'm heading downstairs now to watch another SUPERNATURAL Blu-ray episode before I start cooking some lunch.

DR elmore - would you by any chance have a copy of First Nudie Musical DVD or VHS I could borrow sometime over the next few days for a short time?
-
Good morning. Finally I got to sleep in this week.
Dixie Bell and I have had our run through the graveyard on this snowy morning. Quite brisk.

DR Jose -- we have to figure out a good time to meetup this week so I can give your your little airport gift!

A propos THE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, I looked up my dvdlaunch review of the dvd"
http://www.dvdlaunch.com/phantomparadise.html (http://www.dvdlaunch.com/phantomparadise.html)
I'd forgotten that for the most part I rather enjoyed it.
I do like Schumaker's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for the reasons BK has mentioned - it's not afraid to be what it is, plus I find that the orchestrations are sumptuous and the design of the film is lovely to look at.
What I don't like about it is Gerard Butler. I also felt that the phantom's making was not shocking enough.
As fond as I am of old CMU friend Patrick Wilson, I find him a little stiff in this movie; I liked him more in ANGELS IN AMERICA.
-
I'm up, she of the Evil Eye is here, and I shall go jog despite the very chilly weather.

Will all you lovely dear readers please send me your various and sundried addresses, even if you think I have them.

We have our tickets to that Avery Fisher Hall BABES IN TOYLAND for December 19.

DR elmore - would you by any chance have a copy of First Nudie Musical DVD or VHS I could borrow sometime over the next few days for a short time?
DR Julie - funny you should ask DR elmore that question as that is the dvd I have been watching over the last two nights! I started with the documentary on Thursday and then watched half of the movie last night. . .
-
Will all you lovely dear readers please send me your various and sundried addresses, even if you think I have them.

My advice is: ask for a refund!

Just in case I'm not being clear - not your e-mail address - your physical address.

Good morning DR TCB!

Nice desk DR Cillaliz! I like it! And a bargain to boot!

I have never seen PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, but I can recall it playing on TV when I was in grade school. My next door neighbor, Scott Adams, was telling me about it on our way to the bus stop. I remember him mentioning someone getting his head chopped off and I was both horrified and intrigued, but too scared to ever watch the movie.
Is there such a scene?

WHITE CHRISTMAS is coming on AMC-HD tonight. I have no intention of sitting through it with all those commercials, but I am interested to see if the print they're showing is different from the dark, dirty one we have on DVD presently.
-
I began my viewing today with the last episode of disc 3 of SUPERNATURAL, Season Four in Blu-ray. This was the brilliant episode where Sam and Dean find out that their lives are actually being written in book form as they live. It was really from this point on that the writing for SUPERNATURAL has really taken off and reached heights of imagination only touched on in previous seasons. From this point on, every week is almost always something completely new and unexpected.
-
Next, I watched last night's UGLY BETTY. Excellent episode, and when Grant Bowler emerged from the Caribbean (even more than Daniel Craig in CASINO ROYALE), it just took my breath away. That man is a GOD!
-
Next I watched WHITE COLLAR. Yes, a very entertaining episode and a nice set-up of surprise for the back half of the season coming in January.
-
A very quiet Saturday afternoon on the internet, so I'm going to head down and see what fun things I can find to watch.
WBBL.
-
The snow has begun but I don't think it will stick. It's too wet from this morning/afternoon rain.
-
Today is cloudy and cold (for Arizona). I spent the morning with a couple of young men from the church working on a butterfly habitat at the river. Then we had pizza for lunch.
That is all.
-
Back from the book fair - only thirty-seven dealers, but for some reason I had more fun today than I've had in the last few years there. I only actually knew two dealers, but I found a couple of inexpensive things that I snapped up - best one, a book about the evils of communism by J. Edgar Hoover, warmly inscribed by him to Jimmy Durante. How could I pass THAT up?

Goodnight, Mrs. Rosenberg, wherever you are.
-
Then I picked up a couple of packages and headed home. A little history before I continue: Driving in my neighborhood is sometimes amazing - lots of entitled show business idiots and their entitled children. So, occasionally one will drive and you'll see these idiot parents waving frantically at you to slow down. Now, reality: The speed limit in my neighborhood is 35mph. When they frantically wave their entitled arms as if you're a crazed, drunk out of control driver, I've had occasion to look at my speedometer and usually I'm going about twenty, sometimes less if I'm approaching a street I have to turn on. This angers me quite a lot and today it sent me over the edge when some ASS started doing that to me and screaming slow down - I looked at my speedometer - I was going 16mph. I slammed on my brakes and got out of the car and started screaming back at him. He screamed "THERE ARE KIDS HERE!!!" I looked around - since he was the only one on the street for five blocks I screamed back, "OH YEAH, WHERE?" He screamed "JUST SLOW DOWN!" I screamed, "YOU MEAN SLOWER THAN SIXTEEN MILES AN HOUR YOU STUPID PECKERHEAD?" When he saw that he'd lost THAT one, he immediately screamed, "YOU RAN THAT STOP SIGN." I screamed, "I AM SO TIRED OF YOU IDIOTS WAVING AT PEOPLE AS IF THEY WERE NAZIS - NO ONE RAN A STOP SIGN." I really thought we might come to fisticuffs, and it takes a lot to get me to that point. He called me a few names and I returned the fire, and then flipped him off, got in my car, and came home - going twenty miles per hour, as I always do. I now think I will drive the speed limit of 35mph whenever I pass this buttwipes house.
-
And now, I shall calm down and then go eat something.

I have returned from my sister's surprise retirement party. And my brother-in-law managed to pull it off as a complete surprise.
After the party, since I was only two miles away, I went to the memorial for the four fallen police officers. It was unbelievable. It reminded me of what the memorail for Princess Diana must have looked like. A sea of candles, balloons, flowers, and cards. Very moving.

Don't remember the actor or the role's name, but it was in the stage musical version of Goodbye Girl. But the character was obviously based on RIchard Simmons and it literally had be laughing so hard it hurt and the rest of the audience felt the same way.

Michael S, how are you feeling?

Page five - it is to laugh.

Not only that, it's from hunger.
Hunger, I tell you.

Went out and had a sandwich and fries and because I was still in a foul mood, had a slice of chocolate mousse cake, which put everything to rights. Now I'm back and home for the evening and shall finish watching the movie I started last night, after which I'll maybe watch a Blu-Ray of The Grifters from the UK.

DR Cillaliz - I love the desk!
Thanks! I had to check the mail at the office today and stopped up to see the space to visualize the desk there. The painter was there. Man he got a lot done this morning. We have a great time talking. I'm planning to hire him to paint my stairwells at home, but I'm afraid if I'm here all we'll do is talk, lol
-
Is the painter cute, DR Cillaliz?
-
Greetings from the northwest side of Lima, OH. We are settled into our hotel after having a nice dinner at Panera. We just realized that we can sleep in tomorrow until the time we'd have to leave home :D
-
Nice desk DR Cillaliz! I like it! And a bargain to boot!
Thanks MBArnum. I'm pleased with it. I can't wait to get into the space and get all this stuff out of my house!
-
Is the painter cute, DR Cillaliz?
LOL! He's short, round, older and retired from whatever his former job was. He does wonderful work and has a fabulously funny personality. He paints during the fall and winter and then goes to the lake in the late spring and summer and fishes for 3-4 months. He's just a very fun and interesting person to talk to. I think he and his wife are raising his grandson. At least he takes his grandson to school every day.
-
OK, DR Cillaliz, just checking...
-
Our wireless connection here is ver-r-r-r-ry slo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ow, so I think I'm going to sign off and read some Dawn Powell - 'night!

DR TCB was your sister's retirement a surprise....or was it just the celebration that was on the Q.T.?
-
MR BK people like that can become most irate and you don't want to be on COPS, throw it in neutral and rev your engine as you glide by......and toss out a cabbage patch doll from the thrift store......with a noose around its neck.....
-
Very cold here this evening....at least the 20's.....but the barometer is on the rise, so I don't expect snow. Tomorrow may be a different story. I finally decided to add a blanket to my bed.
-
Late to the game today. Sorry. Ginny, what Dawn Powell is on your reading list? She's a favorite of mine.
Over-the-top performances? Cloris Leachman, Kenneth Mars and Madeleine Kahn in "Young Frankenstein." Divine in the original "Hairspray." Half the cast of "The Women." Edna Mae Oliver in "Pride and Prejudice."
-
Short, round, bald, and a sparkling funny personality....wow DR CILLA LIZ.....this sounds like the descriptions I send to all the dating sites.
-
You know Ann Miller in KISS ME KATE....when she was doing her Lois Lane part was pretty darn over the top....but - at least with me - I never really knew if Ann was in on the joke.
-
Where is everyone?
I can't speak for the others, but I'm here. And I think you're here. That's two.
-
I began my evening by watching THREE STRANGERS. A very surprising little picture, and definitely not a feel good movie. These were three pretty desperate people (Geraldine Fitzgerald, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet) whose hopes are pinned on the Irish Sweepstakes ticket. No mystery at all (like THE VERDICT), but it was a pleasure seeing so many from the Warners stable of character actors.
-
Then I began watching WHITE CHRISTMAS on AMC-HD. I lasted with it until the first commercial, but honestly it didn't looks as good as the DVD upconverted. Very disappointing. The picture wasn't sharp, color was so-so, and there was color fringing in certain shots.
So, once the movie broke for its first commercial, I put in the DVD and watched the rest of it from the DVD with NO commercial interruptions. It's an old transfer like ON THE TOWN the other day in dire need of an updating. Passable picture and sound, but could be so much better with modern technology.
But such an entertaining movie. I marvel at Vera-Ellen's dancing skill every time I watch this.
-
Page Six Dance!!!
-
I started watching the Rosemary Clooney reminiscences on the disc, but only got about five minutes in and stopped. It's 16 minutes long, so I'll finish it tomorrow.
-
OK, DR Cillaliz, just checking...
:D I know, but asking about him made me laugh.
-
Short, round, bald, and a sparkling funny personality....wow DR CILLA LIZ.....this sounds like the descriptions I send to all the dating sites.
LOL!
-
A quiet night on the internet for my surfing, so I think I'll close up shop, head downstairs, and go to bed.
Good night!
-
Jrand, normally I just let it roll off me, but I'd just had it with this nonsense. I'm sure I looked quite amusing slamming on my brakes and getting out of my car like a crazy person.
-
DR TCB was your sister's retirement a surprise....or was it just the celebration that was on the Q.T.?
LOL! Just the party, although the surprise party almost caused a divorce. My sister was so angry at her husband all week, because she thought he didn't give a damn about her retirement. I admire him for sticking it out until today.
-
Good Evening!
I'm back from Carnegie Hall...
It really was a wonderful concert! I actually think this was the first time I've seen the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (http://orpheusnyc.com) in person, and it really is quite fascinating to watch them play... without a conductor! (Which is how they normally play.)
The featured soloist for the evening was oboist, Albrecht Mayer (http://albrechtmayer.com/), in Richard Strauss' Oboe Concerto. His playing was agile, exciting and lyrical. It was also fascinating seeing how long he could spin out some of those phrases since the writing of the solo part is "infamous" for requiring the use of circular breathing. After the Strauss, he gave a well-deserved and warmly welcomed encore: the slow movement from one of the Bach oboe concertos.
-
Alas, the snow (and rain) had stopped by the time I left Carnegie, but there was a nice chill in the air. -And walking under the starrily-lit trees at Columbus Circle was a very nice way to end this first wintry evening in NYC.
:)
-
Will all you lovely dear readers please send me your various and sundried addresses, even if you think I have them.
I hope it's not too late, but I just did. :)
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone? Given last night's unseemly WUSSBURGERING as of 9:45 I think we've probably had all the postings we're going to have tonight.

I'm still here. Since winter is closing in and I got an offer to go back to netflix, I did so. So I was watching the Frank Lloyd Wright bio by Ken Burns. I saw it years ago, but wanted to see it again after going to Taliesin. It was an instant movie on my Roku.
-
What a week I have had
-
Do tell us about it
-
Things have been crazy at work - the Tuesday I only worked 11 hours - but that was because I had to go to The Vixters parent teacher meetings so I had to leave work by 6:30 - every morning Monday thru Thursday I got in before 7:30 - and on Monday I was there until 9, Wednesday until 10:30 and on Thursday I didn't leave until half past midnight
-
Next, I watched last night's UGLY BETTY. Excellent episode, and when Grant Bowler emerged from the Caribbean (even more than Daniel Craig in CASINO ROYALE), it just took my breath away. That man is a GOD!
I think that I shall now stop watching Thursday's "The Bonnie Hunt Show" and start watching "Ugly Betty," which I did record, but haven't watched, yet. :D
-
On Friday I took off - in the morning I had my 6 month PET scan - I should get the results by Wednesday - VIBES for a good result will be greatly appreciated
-
Hmmmmmmmmmm
TOD:
Madelaine Kahn in What's Up Doc?
Gene Wilder in The Producers
Ditto and ditto!! I also enjoyed Nathan Lane in "The Birdcage."
-
In the afternoon I had my hair done, then collected the Vixter from school and brought her to have her hair done and then drove home to get dressed and then off to collect my parents and we went off to my cousin's daughter's wedding
She is beautiful and was such a lovely bride
-
we got home after 1:30 AM and then had t be out by 9 because the Vixter had to work the a Christmas craft sale with her youth group
I cruised the sale and picked up a few gifts , then ran some errands in the cold and rain - when I came out of the last store (well I hadn't intended for it to be the last stop of the day but....)
my darn car wouldn't start

fortunately I have AAA -
unfortunately it took them over an hour to get to me and since I was only wearing a thin jacket, I was frozen by time they arrived
fortunately the car started right away with the jump and I was able to get home
-
unfortunaltey the Vixter was needing to be picked up and Vixdad was out running errands of his own and had forgotten his cellphone at home and was thus unreachable
-

I have returned from my sister's surprise retirement party. And my brother-in-law managed to pull it off as a complete surprise.

DR vixmom - How old is your battery? With the recent cold-snaps, it could just be that your battery is showing its age, and is due for a replacement. And as with any sort of battery issues, be sure to have your alternator checked too.
-
Oh! DO call Click and Clack! I love to listen to that show
-
Ok, maybe check your battery and then call click and clack

my cousin's beautiful daughter

She is very beautiful! Thanks for sharing the photo

And that's a beautiful dress!

When I returned the Storm yesterday the Verizon woman waiting on me seemed irritated. I asked her to restore everything on my current blackberry and she said she did. Well I wasn't getting any email so I just went to trouble shoot. She didn't transfer the email back to the new one. I did a security wipe on the storm before giving it back so I know it wasn't going there, but she really should have followed through with what I asked.
On the positive side, now I know how to do it when the replacement curve comes from the insurance co. on Monday
-
Sorry to say Jose, the is no Christmans vacation looming my future
Well, I hope you at least get a three-day weekend sometime soon. Of course, maybe one of us could call in a bomb threat like this secretary (http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/specials/weirdflorida/blog/2009/11/claudia_de_la_rosa_31.html) did. ::)

Vibes for Vixmom, and tell that Scrooge of an employer of yours you're no Bob(bie) Cratchit! ;)

Now this is insanity. Palin will be here at noon. They start handing out wrist bands to allow admission to the book signing at 6:00 AM And NO, I'm not going. Just shaking my head at the idea of camping out in very cold weather to get a book signed by Sarah Palin
SIOUX CITY -- Two women from Moville, Iowa, arrived at the Southern Hills Mall parking lot at 4 p.m. Saturday equipped with a propane heater, tent, battery-operated socks, several layers of clothing and doting husbands who occasionally stopped by with hot cocoa, other necessities -- and the opportunity to poke fun at their determination.
Leisa Stapp, 35, and Cindy Rilling, 49, didn't mind the cold weather or their husbands' jokes as they waited patiently in the parking lot in front of Barnes and Noble Booksellers for the opportunity to be the first in line to meet former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
"I just wanted to be assured I'll get a chance to at least get to see her and get her autograph," Stapp said. "We came prepared. I've got battery-operated socks, about four layers of clothing, hats, gloves, coat and a very strong will."
Rilling said people have been stopping and asking why they're camping out in the mall parking lot.
"I'm amazed how many people don't realize Sarah's coming," Rilling said. "They think there's a big sale we're camping out for."
Stapp had her 13-year-old son Daylon with her and Rilling brought her 14-year-old son Skyler.
"We were determined to be the first ones in line," Cindy Rilling said. "If we do get freezing cold we will just step into our cars for a little bit. Just being here and meet such an icon and someone I truly admire is so exciting. "
Meanwhile, the two women had more than just their sons to keep them company. Two women from Spencer, Iowa, and others joined them as the night continued. Around 8 p.m. there were about seven people total camping outside.
One of them was Todd Sargeant, 22, of Lebanon, Ohio, who drove 800 miles to Sioux City just to see Palin.
Sargeant left Ohio at 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning and arrived in Sioux City at around 1:30 p.m., got a hotel and went straight to the parking lot where he met Cindy Rilling and Leisa Stapp.
"She's an inspiration to me and so many and it's an honor to be here," Sergeant said. " I missed the two Ohio meets and with my work this was the closest one I could come to, to meet her."

Well, I guess we had a little frenzy whilst I was finishing the movie.
-
Now I'll take a shower, then write the blurb for our upcoming release, which I'll post here tomorrow at midnight.
-
Well we will be closed for Christmas - but my Jewish employer just does not "get" that Christmas Eve is more of a family get together time than Christmas Day itself, not ot mention that it it aslo a big day for church services - if things run true to norm he'll talk about letting us out early - and then finally let us go at 4

sorry - I just don't "get it". I wouldn't walk across the room to meet her. I cannot fathom what people see in her
-
Well it is past 1 AM here and I must get some sleeps....goodnhight all!!

If all these signings are at Barnes and Noble and if they have the same rules everywhere, they are making a pretty penny off of Ms. Palin
Rules for Palin book signing
* Wristbands will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 6 a.m. You must be present to get a wristband.
* You must present a Barnes & Noble receipt for "Going Rogue" to get a wristband.
* Maximum of two copies of "Going Rogue" per person will be signed.
* No personalization of signings of the books; Sarah Palin will provide only an autograph.
* No photos with Palin.
* Cell phones and cameras must be turned off and put away before customers approach the signing table.
* No bags will be allowed through the signing line.
* Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

I don't get this mania either. I think I liked the idea of her better than her ideas. I didn't like the way she was treated. But this is just plain goofy
-
Anyway, she's at the mall tomorrow so I did all my shopping there today. I will not be going anywhere near the place tomorrow
-
Time for me to get some sleep. Night

Did any DRs happen to watch "The 12 Men of Christmas" (http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/12-men-of-christmas) - starring Kristin Chenoweth, Josh Hopkins, Anna Chlumsky and Erin Dilly - on Lifetime earlier tonight? Or plan to TiVo or DVR it tomorrow night? ;)
*OH! They even have a CALENDAR! (http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/12-men-of-christmas/christmas-calendar#id=1)

OK... I'm getting those "I-should-have-been-in-bed-an-hour-ago" sniffles.
Goodnight.
