Congratulations to DR PENNYO on her accolades.
I concur with DR CP that the Lawrence Tierney DILLINGER is pretty bad - although I think it mostly suffers from its low budget - and the fact that a lot of the people involved were still alive so compromises had to be made - or people invented for the story.
Warren Oates was a good Dillinger....Johnny Depp COULD have been.

I think if you don't like her then you will not enjoy watching her with Anderson Cooper.
I really like her. And although i don't watch him on CNN often, I see him a lot when he fills in for Regis, and i like him a lot. So i think the two of them together are hilarious.
Interestingly enough i came across a survey asking if people thought they were funny, or irritating. I was expecting it to be half and half. But it was like 90% for funny.

It's interesting to read about the cold that DRs Dakota and Cillaliz are facing.
I guess it's not so cold here. We often have a windchill of -20 but that is Celsius. I can't even imagine how cold -40F is.

People here complain about the "bitter cold" when it is +40 degrees.

There are a host of bonus features, some repeated from the previous release of the extended pilot episode and some new ones.
It's a four-disc set.

All the talk of writing here probably instigated my strange dream last night. In it, I was somehow an established author and I was reading a review of my recently published novel in a newspaper. And I was angry that the reviewer wrote that the book was a rip-off of Alfred Hitchcock's SHADOW OF A DOUBT. And I woke up because I started storming through my living room and tearing up the place looking for my cordless phone.
As strange as it was, I like this dream very much. The only frustration is not remembering what my supposed novel was about other than that it was supernatural in content. And that I had written it on a ridiculously huge laptop that sat ontop of my sewing machine table.

Just had the most interesting telephonic call, which led to another interesting telephonic call. As you know, we're prepping our first release of 2010, and it's a title I was happy to release, even though it's been out on CD (oop for some years now, though). I just wasn't sure how many sales we'd have, although I knew ours would sound much better and be a MUCH better presentation. The original LP release of this score had been a re-recording - the original film tracks have never been available, but we were going to include about four or the film tracks as bonus material, since we would be able to get those four tracks completely clean from the laserdisc release of the film. So, that made it special. But this phone call has turned what would be a good release into a potential release of the year for fans of this film (and they are legion) - I am being Fed Exed a CD of the complete original score - only a little of it in stereo, but the rest in excellent mono, all 76 minutes of it. So, this is suddenly going to become a two CD set, like we did for How To Murder Your Wife. This is REALLY exciting news and boy does it start Kritzerland off in the best possible way for 2010.
-
Best of all, I think we can stay on our release timeline of announcing around the 12th.
-
I've written about four pages so far, and will probably do another two or three later today. Meanwhile, I have to go deliver a big box o' CDs to a local dealer.
-
Wow! Congratulations, bk! I hope you price it so as to make it really worthwhile for Kritzerland! :)
-
Hey, Amy,
After we hung up I realized you had probably Googled Ragtime and you were looking at 11 year old information. The reason it said Ford Center for the Performing Arts (which has an entrance on 42nd Street and on 43rd Street and is a reconstruction of two old 42nd Street legit theatres, the Lyric and the Apollo) is because the original production of Ragtime, in 1998, opened at the then named Ford Center for the Performing Arts. It has since been renamed the Hilton Theatre (not after Paris Hilton :D)
And that ends your Broadway Theatre History Lesson for today.

T.O.D.
JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG - Why didn't Judy Garland win an Oscar for this performance?
The general concensus seems to be that Hollywood felt both she and Montgomery Clift were slumming in the supporting category; they didn't want big stars winning Oscars in that category.
There was much admiration (as I understand) for Rosalind Russell who refused to have herself submitted in the supporting category for PICNIC because she felt she was a star and shouldn't be in that category.
-
I had time before I started work to rewatch two episodes of THE MENTALIST.
The first involved the plain-looking Casanova who attempts to give Rigsby dating tips.

The second one had to do with the murder of the housewife who was dealing drugs out of the country club. This was the better of the two episodes I rewatched this morning.

I managed to watch 3 1/2 episodes of GLEE. Wonderful episodes. I had forgotten that we got to see Vocal Adrenaline twice in those early episodes (they are a maginficent show choir). I'm on the episode now with the "Acafellas." John Lloyd Young plays the shop teacher who cut off his thumbs.

I had a loverly dinner with DRs vixmom, the Vixter, and edisaurus and her DS Greg at Broadway Joe's Steakhouse on 46th Street across from Joe Allen's. DR vixmom and the Vixter had a good time at RAGTIME, and it was wonderful to see them. Dinner ended arpound 7:15 and DR edisaurus and Greg went to TKTS to look at what was available, DR vixmom headed north to their parkling location and I headed over to the theatre to see Joshie, Rob, and the gang. Istayed downstairs with Joshie and listened to the show through "Old devil Moon" on headphones and Joshie and I talked during his respites. It was a lot of fun.
Now I'm watching LAW & ORDER on NBC.

DR Jane, I finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. One thing i found interesting was that when in most books the story would be over ... this one started onto new levels.
I am going to pick up book 2 tomorrow.
I wonder if it and book 3 are as complex as parts of book 1. I think book 3 does not come out in English until may 2010. If book 3 is as complex, i wonder if it would be too tough in French. I may check it out since it seems that book 3 is available at my library in french.

i like that the story doesn't unravel in the usual manner. i think book 2 is more complex than 1. i read them a good time apart. after you are done with book 2 you could begin reading it in french and see how it goes. from what you have said i think you might be better off waiting until may.

I was off eating a bowl of rum raisin ice cream.
Oh... I can't remember the last time I had rum-raising ice cream. -Although, I seem to recall buying a pint of it sometime last year - or maybe the year before. I also remember rum-raisin being one of the ice cream choices at the Chinese restaurant that Steve and I used to go to on almost a weekly basis. I always meant to ask which brand Fay, the owner, which brand she served - it was quite tasty and very rum-my.

However... I did have half a cup of Raspberry Chocolate Chip and half a cup of Coconut Brownie ice cream at Bev's Homemade Ice Cream in Carytown a few hours ago. Yummers!

We are home safe and sound from our lovely day in New York
It was bitter cold and the wind was really whipping so our planned walk down 5th Avenue before the show was more of a very brisk trot - we raced past the windows at SAKS (which weren't very attention grabbing any way I am afraid) - stopped in at St. Patricks's Cathedral where we warmed our hands on the Cardinals radiator behind the main altar - then stopped in at the American Girl Store - we were both greatly disappointed by the recent changes.
The theatre is gone now and the magic seems to have worn off - or maybe we are just too grown up now - but it no longer seems the fun "girls club" just another store,,,,,

And RAGTIME?
-
the bus is fun, as long as it is a novelty & not done during rush hour. rush hour in L.A. cured my children of wanting to ride the bus again.
During What If? I took the bus down Santa Monica Blvd. one day just because I had the time... That's one looooooong road. I also found out that Sunset Blvd. goes on... and on... and on. Ah, a Baby reference!)
-
The we raced by through Rockerfeller Center - too cold for the likes of us to stop for pictures by the tree or to stop and watch the iceskaters
-
then back to 52nd street to see Ragtime - we were very luck with our seats , especially considereintg aht I just bought them online Thursday with a discount code - we ended up in the center orchestra, in the center of the row - row T but still a lovely view
-
The show was wonderful - neither if us had seen it before and I have not listened to the OBC for years -
If nay one is in the vicinity and can get their hands on a ticket I definitely recommend making the the trip
-
now that is is getting closer to bedtime i'm waking up a bit. ::) i', sure i'll be wide awake when the lights go out, keith's lights anyway as i'll need something to read by.
-
Jose - today as they were taking names for the lottery they said that those whose names were not drawn would have an opportunity to buy tickets at a discount price....
-
vixmom thank you for taking me on your travels with you today, even if it is from afar.

You're right, DR vixmom. "American Girl Place" has become just another big corporate toy store. I was really surprised to see - and to find out - that the original "American Girl Place" in Chicago had also been stripped of its charm and homespun appeal (which usually justified the $100 price tag for the dolls).
And now with the closing of the Disney Store on 5th Avenue, well... More business and crowds for FAO Schwarz's flagship store I guess.
-
I had a delightful time tonight revisiting GLEE'e episodes. I got the first eight finished today plus about 1/3 of the ninth episode ("Wheels" which has the wonderful "Dancing with Myself," "Defying Gravity" sing-off, and (I think) "Proud Mary.") I will easily be able to finish it up tomorrow and maybe have some time left over in the evening for some leisure viewing.
-
Also, tonight there is a CASTLE rerun which I'll be watching tomorrow as I eat lunch.
-
After the show we met dear Elmore and hurried down to Broadway Joes where the lovely Edi and her Greg joined us
The food was good, the company wonderful and the conversation reminded me how much more interesting everybody else's life and job is! '
I am truly grateful that you let boring me hang out with you and that you share your stories with me and mine!
-
Edi also gifted me a box fiul of delicious pralines... (shhh don't tell Vixdad - I have no intentions of sharing!!)
-
Jose - today as they were taking names for the lottery they said that those whose names were not drawn would have an opportunity to buy tickets at a discount price....
Thanks for that update, DR vixmom. Last week, they were also drawing extra names for the standing room slots if the show was sold out. However, it's sort of surprising - well, not really - that today wasn't sold out too. I guess "everyone" is waiting until next week now.
I'm glad that you and the vixter enjoyed the show. I am looking forward to seeing the show next week, even though I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a blubbering fool as soon as the music starts up. I'm so happy that my friends got an extra week on Broadway.
*I also just remembered that my dear friend, Anne Kanengeiser, appeared in the original Broadway production. She played the woman who finds the baby (among other roles), and she was also Marin Mazzie's understudy. I still have the copy of the music - "Goodbye, My Love" and "Back To Before" - she was given for her original callback which I coached her for.
-
PT went very well, my extra day & money were not wasted. he showed me a new exercise i will eventually do at home, once he feels it is safe for me to do it unsupervised. since i accidentally dropped my arm, which he thankfully caught, i will be good & wait for his ok. i did very well with the stretch for the exercise, getting about half way to the distance i eventually will stretch & should succeed going the full distace. that is the good news, the bad news is i will never be permitted to stretch farther because of the implant.

'night
-
DR vixmom - If they are still up next weekend, and if the temps are a bit more temperate, I highly recommend coming back into the city for a few more hours to check out the store windows, especially those up at Bergdorf-Goodman and Lord & Taylor.
-
Well the Vixter and I have to be up early - somehow we both were scheduled to be communion servers tomorrow , as well as the Vixter being scheduled as the Lay reader , and her choir is also singing - I told her she should just do the sermon as long as she's there .....LOL
so beddy bye time for the lieks of me--- Happy New Year to oneand all and I will try and catch up tomorrow
-
I am now very tired and shall take a nap...although I know the post man will arrive at any time in the next two hours, which will more then likely me up.
"likely me up" - Interesting turn of phrase. I like it.
-
I meant to ask you - what roles did your friends have in this performance?
-
I will have to check in tomorrwo to find out - can barely keep my eyes open...
-
Finished watching one motion picture and may go for another. I wrote a little over eight pages - I'm still finding my footing - I think once I'm in the book proper (after this prologue), then it will be easier.
-
Healing Vibes for dear Jane - congrats to PennyO- Bruce I am looking forward to the book and love to all
-
I'm going to close things down up here and head downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
I meant to ask you - what roles did your friends have in this performance?
Mark Aldrich - Willie Conklin
Tracy Lynn Olivera - Brigit
Donna Migliaccio - Emma Goldman
My friend, Jeff, is also playing Bass in the orchestra. They brought him up from DC too with the production.

Darling, dearest vixmom, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence and there are days I'd happily trade my hanging-on-by-the-nails lovelorn existence for a steady job and home and family. But not very often, I hope.

In other news...
I ended up back in Carytown earlier for a bit of strolling and wandering and eating (of course).
I started off at Carytown Cupcakes (http://www.carytown-cupcakes.com/). They just opened back in October. I had stopped in before, but had yet to try their cupcakes. Well, today, I tried their cupcakes. :)
I opted for two of their "Classics": Hummingbird and Red Velvet. Both were very good, but I did think they were taking advantage of the still-going cupcake craze by charging New York City/Magnolia Bakery prices. -And coupled with the still-outrageous City of Richmond prepared foods tax... $6.11 for two cupcakes.
-
The show was wonderful - neither if us had seen it before and I have not listened to the OBC for years -

We got two tickets after dinner and saw the show. Fabulous. The first time I think I've ever seen an audience in tears leaving a musical!
-
I had hoped to take a leisurely stroll up and down Cary Street/Carytown, but once I realized that I had left my knit cap in my other bag... And since it was quite gusty outside today... And since I also noticed that "Where the Wild Things Are" was playing at The Byrd... Well... I high-tailed it down to Starbucks for a mocha to warm me up, then back up to The Byrd to catch the movie.
-
It was wonderful to see Elmore and Vixmom, and thanks to my phone-a-friends Ben and Jose for getting us there!
-
A rather nippy day to be walking 50 blocks...especially when the wind chill is 2 degrees and we don't have proper winter clothes. But never let it be said us Southerners are wimps. We walked the highline. Maybe we're not wimps, just stupid!
-
I went to Gelson's and had a little Chinese chicken salad and a little potato salad to snack on, whilst I finished a the extras on the movie I"d watched. Then I wrote another couple of pages - somehow I did over ten pages again today. Even though I'm still finding my footing, I am having so much fun, and as I write, so many images and memories come back to me. And I figured out the best approach to the prologue was to telescope my year in NY, since it's not really part of the book proper, but does set up a number of important things. So, instead of going into a lot of detail, it's more like jumping from thing to thing. Only a couple of times do I spend a page or two talking about a specific event and that seems to be working well.

When I stepped into The Byrd (http://www.byrdtheatre.com/), it was like stepping back into history, both mine and otherwise. It's one of the few remaining classic old movie houses, and, thankfully, it was saved from possible demolition a few years ago when The Byrd Theatre Foundation was formed. The Foundation purchased the theatre which was built back in 1928, and is currently overseeing an ongoing restoration effort of the theatre.
When I began school at VCU, movies at The Byrd cost 99-cents. (A ticket is now $1.99.) It's a second-run house, and they also have a series of Midnight Movies as well as special Sing-Along presentations throughout the year. On weekends, they not only open the balcony, but on Saturdays you can hear "Bob Gulledge at The Mighty Wurlitzer (http://byrdtheatre.com/organ/)" before the evening shows.
*Because it's a second-run house, they do not show any previews. However, they do show this campy and classic "Litter Trailer" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01v5EgBXKyE) which happens to feature some of my classmates from VCU. -I'm tempted to "ootleg-bay" this one myself someday.

Yeah! You made it to The High Line (http://www.thehighline.org/)! :)

They got to go and taste Saturday's High Line (almost a Dolly reference)

I watched a little of another motion picture, but I think I'm done for the evening. I'll take a hot shower and relax at the computer.

As for "Where the Wild Things Are"...
What a beautiful, haunting, lonely movie. Even though it's based on Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, it's most definitely not a "kid's movie" - as most of the kids and their parents in the theatre found out earlier this afternoon.* It's not a perfect movie, but there are some truly magical and moving moments throughout. I really marveled at the work of the voice and "suit" actors - who knew James Gandolfini could break your heart? I also really dug the score and songs by Karen O and Carter Burwell.
*I was a little worried when I saw all the kids in the theatre. Most of them appeared to be between the ages of four and nine, and one father actually came in late(!) and wheeled a baby stroller - with a baby in it - down the aisle to sit down towards the front. It was not the quietest of audiences, but some of the whispers of "What is that?" and "He doesn't like his sister" kind of fit the mood of the movie. However, once the movie hit the 60-, 70-minute mark, the natives did indeed become restless. But, that just made me concentrate on the movie even more... and made me cry a bit more too. ::)

Wow, I get another day to be at home! That is just too great. I didn't realize how tired I was until I had a chance to relax a little..I think I'm finally catching up with myself. I have a lot to do around the house tomorrow, but it will be good to get some of it done.
I do want to try to get the wooden bench that goes to the office into the prius. I'm pretty sure I brought it back from the lake in the car so it should fit. Then I'm down to just needing help getting the desk into the car and I can probably get Edith to help me with that on Monday. Funny, I finally have real offers of help moving the furniture from the house to the office and I end up doing it myself. LOL. I am my mother's child. She's always doing the same thing.

Jose have you had the Wicked hot chocolate from Jaques something or other that is on The Best Thing I Ever Ate?
-
They just had Pasta Mama from Hugo's on The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Scrambled eggs, pasta and parmesan cheese....I may have to try making that.....
-
oh pooh! I forgot I was going to diet and get rid of the holiday 10 pounds I gained. It all tasted great, but....
-
Jose have you had the Wicked hot chocolate from Jaques something or other that is on The Best Thing I Ever Ate?
Um... Does this answer your question? ;)
*I've also had the pleasure of meeting Jacques Torres a couple of time over this past year, and we Follow each other on Twitter as well. :)

Think I'll take my book and head upstairs for the night. Last night it got really windy and I thought I heard breaking glass several times. I was pretty sure it was icicles breaking off the roof, and since I haven't seen any broken glass, I'm assuming I was right. It is a disturbing sound in the middle of the night. I hope I don't hear it again

I usually go to the UWS location on Amsterdam Ave. -It's just a block away from Levain, two blocks away from Crumbs, and three blocks from GROM Gelato. -Not that I've ever stopped into all of those places in one fell swoop. Well, at least not in that order.
;D
*They also just opened another shop in the new Arcade of Chelsea Market. And it's really worth the trip over and under the Brooklyn Bridge to check out the flagship store in DUMBO.
-
LOL, You were posting while I was looking it up....so is it wonderful?
And, yes, it is wonderful.
-
And here I am with Mr. Chocolate, himself, Jacques Torres at this years Vendy Awards:
-
I'm off to sleep and dream of hot chocolate
(Not a euphemism)
-
OK... Time for to bed to go...
Goodnight.

I think I wrote fourteen pages today - I just couldn't stop. I have no idea if it's any good, but write I did. I keep going back and adding little details, but the funniest thing that I wrote about, in lieu of today's notes, was discovering liverwurst in NY - I'd never eaten it before - it all just came back to me and it was really funny to remember. This is a fairly long prologue, but it does cover an entire year in NY and then about six months back in LA, and it's all a setup to what happens in Chapter One. We'll see what Margaret thinks. I think this is going to be a fairly addictive book to write.

TOD:
I love a good courtroom drama.
WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION
I was also a big fan of L.A. LAW and BOSTON LEGAL (until it got too silly).
Ditto, ditto and ditto.
Also, others titles that have been mentioned that can be added to my list:
ALLY MCBEAL
BOSTON LEGAL
CHICAGO (the stage musical)
Miracle on 34th Street - the original one (very good, Penny!)
Night Court
LEGALLY BLONDE: The Musical also has a courtroom scene. ;)

Last night, I had both my new and old computers up and running. I have been getting my e-mail through my old computer, because I hadn't been able to figure out how to get the files from my old computer onto my new computer, and I just didn't take the time to try and figure it out. Well, all of a sudden, my old computer just turned itself off and restarted! :o I didn't do anything to it, it just rebooted! And just before it got to the Windows log-on screen, it rebooted again! And then the same thing happened about three or four times!! I didn't know what to do except to turn it off at the power strip. Today, I went to see "Avatar" (it didn't have the greatest story or the best dialogue, but overall I loved it...the special effects were incredible!) and when I came home and turned on the power strip, my old computer rebooted over and over, all over again. I was able to go into "safe mode" and actually get it to start without rebooting. I called my sister's boyfriend (my technical wizard) and he was able to tell me exactly where the e-mail (.dbx) files are and I was able to burn them onto a blank DVD. He also said that the rebooting was due to a virus...DAMN!! Now all I need to do is copy the .dbx files to the correct place on my new computer. Fortunately, I do know where that folder is. We'll see if it all works!
Being able to save all my old e-mail was the most important thing to save from my old computer, but there are some programs that I will miss if (when) my old computer really does go belly up. :(
