Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a few errant periods, and now it is time for you to post until the period cows come home.

Bar-B-Q...now you're talkin' my language!

Most southerners or southern dwellers I know are very opinionated about BBQ, and  there never seems to be a consensus about the best place in town, or the best style---the red sauce, the yellow mustard-based sauce or the vinegary style. I am always up for some good Q.

I like to go somewhere that has good sides, like collards, beans or brunswick stew or cornbread, but so far I haven't found the magic combination of BBQ I like that has collards I like.

My favorite at the moment is Fox Brothers in Atlanta. I like all their sides except the collards, which have a tomato base that's too spicy for my tastes; the people are friendly and you can sit outside. The downside is, now it's been discovered. (It's kind of in a no-man's land.) The Fox Brothers are passionate about what they do and that's what it takes.

I looked them up to get a link and see that gayot.com lists them as one of the top 10 BBQ restaurants in the country. Gayot (never heard of them but I'm sure DR Jose has) also has a place in Oakland on their list: Everett and Jones, and in NY they have Daisy May's.

Good morning, all! I have a day at Toyland, after which I shall return here, chill out and then take myself down to Joe Allen's for dinner at 6 pm with Messrs John Vogel, William Hicks, and a young lady working with Mr Vogel on the McGlinn estate. They will attend tonight's FINIAN'S RAINBOW performance, and I will go backstage and hang out with the cast and band for a while. The good news is that on Thursday night the production was recorded for the NYPL Theatre video collection of Theatre on Film and Tape.

This is my day. Now I have to make the bed and tidy the apartment. Heigh ho the glamorous life!

For the first time since we've lived here, the house seems warm and comfortable all over. We should have replaced that beast years ago...probably would have saved a lot on the energy bill, too. But I guess it's human nature to want something to last until the bitter end when you know you'll have to spend 7K for a new one.

Good news about the taping, DR ELMORE....especially for those of us out in the stix.

DR JOSE - yes I saw that Willie was mentioned on that ugly poster after I wrote about R/J......I had just seen the ad I described in the left wing pinko commie newsrag NUVO.  I am still not interested in such a production from THIS particular theatre.....one that once cast at 75 year old man as Peter Pan in PETER PAN as a concept, that he only "thought" he had remained young with the lost boys.

Me, too, Larry!

Greg had a big shoot when all of this was happening, so he was very happy to come home and have everything taken care of without having to do research on which company, etc.

My friend and fellow "flood club" member had her whole system and ducts under water during the flood. She recommended this company and I got the same designer and installers that she had, so it felt sort of "family-like".

Well, one good thing is that the presenting station, WETA, saw the rough cut this week and weighed in, so we can't change it too much! They really liked it and we will certainly take their comments to heart during the bloodletting....errr....editing.

Saturday morning greetings!  Yesterday was another long day with Mom, but kind of relaxing because we had to sit and wait for the IT guy to arrive to connect her computer to the high speed internet.  Then we had to wait for the Mac expert HE had to call.  Then I waited until my niece arrived from Illinois and escorted her back to our house by way of a sandwich place where we met Richard for dinner.  Couple of hours of TV and I crashed!

DN Laura is taking over with Mom for a couple of days so I can get some of my own stuff done.

It started last Tuesday night at 10 p.m. I mentioned it on Tuesday, I think. Of course, TNT is rerunning the previously seen seven NBC episodes first (adding a few unaired scenes) before getting to the newly produced unseen six episodes.

DR MATTH thanks for your thoughts on the new FAME......which I shall skip.

And thanks to DR JOSE for the Ballet Report.

It's a very generic version of FAME, less gritty and edgy than the original. And I felt I didn't get to know most of the characters nearly as well as in the original. The fact that they used two of the original's best songs to add to their own movie's original song score also says something about their opinion of the quality of the new work.

It was warmer this morning. I didn't look at the temperature gauge, but I didn't need gloves or a ski cap, and I wore only a light jacket rather than a heavy one. A nice walk. But it's a little overcast. We may get some rain later today.

Yes, SOutherners love barbecue, and there are so many places around here that have it that choosing favorites is almost impossible. I'm also not a stickler for which kind I like. I like it all.

My former partner used to do the best pulled pork I've ever had, but I've never been able to do it like he did.

I see THE HURT LOCKER has added another kudo to its growing list of Best Picture wins, this time from the Broadcast Critics. I feel sure it's going to win the GOlden Globe, too. Looks like Oscar might have its first female director win as Best Director for this movie. Certainly seems to be picking up steam.

Although THE HURT LOCKER is not my favorite picture of last year [ UP IN THE AIR and INGLORIOUS BASTERDS are my choices.], I would much rather see that film win the Oscar than AVATAR, which I did not like.

I would be very shocked if the Academy hands James Cameron another set of Oscars for a special effects extravaganza at the expense of much better fare. I feel sure the film will win a boatload of technical Oscars, perhaps most of them. But I can't see it taking any of the big prizes away from THE HURT LOCKER, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, or UP IN THE AIR.

Last night I watched part of a movie sent to me by DR MBARNUM.....THREE NUTS IN SEARCH OF A BOLT.....I shall discuss this in detail when I finish watching it.

Consider yourselves warned.

A couple of weeks ago, we were discussing John Ford's CHEYENNE AUTUMN.

I hadn't seen the film in years, so I took another look at it yesterday.

As one would expect from Ford and Monument Valley, the cinematography is sensational, but the movie itself is one big mess.  There are continuity and coverage problems throughout.

The basic story of the Cheyenne's trek is, actually, pretty involving, but then Ford throws in all this other crap [e.g. the entire Jimmy Stewart sequence], which is not only unnecessary but also stops the forward motion of the picture.

And, as far as performances are concerned, the truth is that Ford was never an actor's director.  I don't think that he really knew how to direct actors, which is why you find so many overblown performances in his pictures.  [Patrick Wayne is really emulating his father in this picture; reading his lines as "the Duke" would have read them.]

Any truly memorable performances in Ford's pictures, I believe, came from the actor's themselves.

But, in the immortal words of BK, "who am I?  Ebert & Roper?"

One of my all time favorite Peanuts cartoons features Snoopy typing atop his dog house.  His first sentence is "It was a dark and stormy night."  Lucy arrives and gives a withering critique of how awful that is, and how a good story needs an interesting character which immediately hooks the readers' attention.  Snoopy then types:

He was a dark and stormy Knight.

Three, actually--look at the floorplan again and you'll see they just listed the big basement room as "Utility Room."  The actual washer/dryer/furnace/water heater take up only around 1/3 of that space and the rest is--yep--storage.

Not really--the "first" room behind the basement bedroom is really kind of an adjunct to that bedroom--if you look it's actually where the closet is.  And that "second" store room behind that is basically a glorified, finished crawl space.

As for the Topic of the Day....

Most memorable was the Fourth of July block party on Franklin Street in Richmond.  They set up the smokers the night before, and by the time I woke up on the Fourth... WOW!!  Truly some of the best chopped pork BBQ I've ever had - with the NC-style vinegar-red pepper sauce.  The only seasoning on the meat was the smoke.  They just placed the pork butts in the smoker, and then 12 hours later... Again, WOW!!!

Otherwise...

I tend to like it all.  However, I'm partial to pulled pork and sliced beef brisket instead of ribs.  I like ribs, but tend not to find them as satisfying as a good BBQ sandwich.  -With slaw, of course.

Oh...

And my "line buddy", Tom, whom I met on the first on the first day of "20 for 20", ended up treating me to breakfast at Landmarc this morning after we got our numbered bracelets.  What a great man and great stories!  He used to be a maitre d' at The Russian Tea Room.  -He served coffee and pastries to Vladimir Horowitz!  And Walter Matthau once bought him a bottle of Dom Perignon - on top of a $100 tip!

I'm sure he and DR elmore could compile a great "history" of the Personalities on New York City in the 60s, 70s & 80s!

HURRAH!!! Willit be availabel to the public?  I would so like to see it again

No, DR vixmom; only for research at the NYPL Theatre Collection.

So, DR MBarnum, I've got a new singer for you: Spain's Rafa Martin.

I have no idea what his music's like, but i suspect from the photos he could be one of your favorite singers even if he were tone deaf.

Maybe there are two Rafa Martins? I think this one may be a physique model (duh!). Well, DR MBarnum still wouldn't care if he sang in quartertones.

I have a very busy day.  I have my Blu-ray Skype staff meeting here in just  a while, then a rather odd wedding (the processional is "At Last" sung by an operatic soprano friend of the bride's--that will give you some idea of the service, LOL), and then some sort of tony dinner party at a golf club in Canby whose dress code online literally caused me LOL several times.  (NO bared midriffs--which completely blows my dress plans for the evening).

Not a pretty picture!

The original is the better film. This one was rated PG and has less cursing and edgy subject matter than the original though structurally they're the same, and two songs from the original are incorporated into the new one.

I've written about eight pages, but because I had to move something from really early on in the book to a later section and then condense it a little, the page count does not reflect the eight pages.  And I'm jiggy with that.  I have just finished the major portion of the Susan Dey story and have moved on to a new chapter.

The rest of the bonuses were interview with the two authors of the graphic novel which the screenplay was adapted from, some deleted scenes (where CGI had been apllied so the actors look very unusual from the way they look in the finshed film where they play androids), and a music video.

Then I was ready to watch the men's short program from the National Figure Skating Championships. WRONG!!

Though advertised in the newspaper as being covered today, the coverage lasted about three minutes, enough to show the top three men - Jeremy Abbott, Evan Lysechek, and Johnny Weir - do one jump in their programs. We didn't get to see any of their entire programs nor did they even give the results of the rest of the field. Some of us CARED where Ryan Bradley came in the standings or last year's silver medalist Brandon Morotz. I had to go to USA TODAY to find the answers to those questions.

Most of the 90-minute show featured the pairs championship final. I don't care for the pairs or dance so after speeding through it, I just deleted it. The men's final is live tomorrow afternoon. I'll be working, so I've set it to record and will watch it then. I sure hope they show some short programs tomorrow.

Another disappointing performance from NBC!

So, I decided I'd save LAW & ORDER which is still on the DVR until tomorrow to watch while I eat lunch. Instead, I watched another episode of ROME. This was the one where Caesar summons Marc Antony to bring the 13th Legion to help him in his war against Pompey. Lots of other things happened in the episode, but his deciding whether to rejoin Caesar or team up with Pompey made for a dramatic turn of events especially when Caesar's niece suggested that he ally himself with Pompey since it seemed that Caesar couldn't win.

It was a really well done episode of the show.

Another fantastic weight watcher style dinner by the DP.  Pork Chops with pesto made in the George Forman, a FANTASTIC Cauliflower puree, and a salad.  The puree was out of this world and very low in points and was a fantastic substitution for potatoes.  Amazing....

There are a couple typos my computer guy hasn't corrected yet, but here's our updated website. You can click on the link at the top and it's in Spanish www.priscillaforsythlaw.com  (http://www.priscillaforsythlaw.com)

very, very nice cilla.  i like the law & peace painting by goring, & of course your glass plaque/award.  are you aware when you click on criminal law it begins at the top of the page with immigration?

I'd forgotten that, I'll have to talk to him about fixing that too. I'll be adding my new logo as soon as it's done.

Watched two episodes of The Sopranos and am viewed out.  I think I'll look over what I wrote yesterday and today, make sure I'm happy, make fixes if need be, and get ready to print out those pages for muse Margaret.

I was skinnier then.  It's time to start working out again.  My skinny clothes are getting tight and all my fat clothes were given to charity

Tonight's performance of FINIAN'S RAINBOW was amazing. Three numbers stopped the show completely - "The Begat," "If This Isn't Love," and "Necessity" - the house was packed and the audience laughed, cheered and carried on as if we were the biggiest hit in town. I'm sure some of them are fans returning but if we'd had houses like this three months ago, I bet we would not be closing tomorrow. Cheyenne was out; something involving his flight from Palm Springs this morning, and Brian Sears, his understudy, went on for both performances today. He was absolutely wonderful and I'm so happy I got a chance to see him do the role. I sat on the stairs and wept through most of the performance; I am so proud of this amazing show and cast and devastated that, given the great reviews, we can't sell tickets.

Tripp the stage manager held an advance copy of the new cast recording for me, and i got to introduce my friends after the show to most of the cast.

Took a hot shower, did some revising, and closed the Word document.  The year I'm in, 1974, is going to go pretty quickly.  But the next year, 1975, one of the best in my entire life, will comprise quite a large chunk of the book.

When does SOUTHLAND start on TNT?  Isn't it this month?

Last Tuesday!

The new ones haven't started yet.  They're first showing the previous NBC episodes...which I'm recording for a friend of mine.

Today, I went to work for four hours then went with a friend and her daughter to see "It's Complicated."  It was quite enjoyable.  Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin are both very good.  John Krasinski (who is on "The Office") plays the fiance of Meryl's oldest daughter.  He's very funny.

Topic of the Day:  I don't think I've had "real" barbecue.  I've had some good (and not so good) barbecue sauce, but pulled pork or stuff like that just doesn't appeal to me.
