Well, you've read the notes, the notes were enjoyable and a syndrome, and now it is time for you to post until the MOOst Enjoyable cows come home.

From Vixmom, yesterday:
Break A Leg Vibes for George & Co for the Preview Performance!!
From me, now:
Thank you!! :-*
-
Well, last night we had a complete run-through with four, count 'em FOUR people in the audience! They were kind of quiet, but our stage manager said that they really enjoyed it. The show ran about 2 hour and 15 minutes, or so. When I got home, I checked on Facebook (which I'm doing more often than I have been because of the show) and someone posted THIS (http://www.theolympian.com/2010/04/23/1215968/brain-heavy-on-cheese.html) article from The Olympian (the local paper), which is dated April 23...that's from LAST FRIDAY and no one brought it into rehearsal or even told anyone about it...as far as I know. The reason I'm a bit upset about it is that I'M MENTIONED IN THE ARTICLE!! Here are a couple of excerpts:
The show, by Bruce Kimmel and David Wechter, also sends up Broadway musicals – and just about anything else you can think of.
and:
Anderson chose the show after TAO member George Dougherty, who is acquainted with Kimmel, suggested it. “We all agreed it was kind of amazing,” Anderson said.
The show’s creators have been communicating with Anderson during the production and are even coming to see it. “They are going to come see the show on May 7, and we’re going to have a talk-back with them following the performance,” the director said.
;D ;D ;D
-
I've never been mentioned in an article like that before! :D
-
Happy Vix Day!!!
-
Morning all.
That is all.

The Packard Foundation's Calling Me...But I'm Not Going, at least not right now.
Kind of a riff on
TUSCALOOSA'S CALLING ME, BUT I'M NOT GOING!, an Off-Broadway musical from 1975

No one is here (besides me) at 6:37 am.

Good morning, all! The dog barked last night from around 9:45 to 10:30, but I slept well, so who's to complain?
Today is another McGlinnventory day. Yesterday Zak Stains got the sound equipment unpacked and set up, our paralegal Geri got his computer and printer running, so we have days ahead to inventory all computer the disks and see what's on them. The desktop of his Mac is full of amazing thngs, like the full scores to Jerome Kern's ROBERTA, and there will be more.
I got another OZ edit finished last night, so I'm down to two numbers for Act Three, which I hope to finish by Saturday. I missed my BOBES episodes last night, so DR Matt H is now ahead of me on Season Four. I just ordered Season Five on Amazon.
BK's book is listed in Talkinbroadway's "upcoming releases, so I'm hoping a lot of folk are ordering from that announcement:
http://www.talkinbroadway.com/sound/upcoming.html
!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to The Vixter, anniversary wishes to DR Druxy, and what else have I missed? !!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys for the nice anniversary wishes.
We've boarded the animals, so Sandy and I can have a nice romantic day and evening.

TOD:
When I was a kid, I'd spend every Saturday afternoon at Seattle's Roycroft Theater on 19th. The movies themselves were okay, but I really got sucked in by the serials: LOST CITY OF THE JUNGLE, KING OF THE ROCKET MEN and especially THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. [Years later, I would get to meet Carol Forman, who played the "Spider Lady" and I even dated her daughter.]
About the only movie during that period which really made a lasting impression with me was BROKEN ARROW with Jimmy Stewart. It remains one of my all-time favorite Westerns.
On television, there was THE LONE RANGER, which debuted in Seattle on the same day we got our television set, Hopalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers.
-
TOD
Never really had those kind of matinees in Montreal, but I did see a lot of films as double bills and whne I got older as triple bilsl as a grind house.

We didn't go to the movies on Saturday afternoon.....but of the type -
INVADERS FROM MARS

If only Streisand were a bit younger...

Mary: So who is this Mary Magdalene I hear you're running around with? How come you don't bring her home here to see me? You ashamed of your mother? I'm not good enough to meet your lady friends? So, tell me, this girl of yours, she come from a nice family? What does she do? Is she a working girl? Does she work in the market? No, no, it's alright, you don't have to tell me anything. After all, I'm just your mother. A mother who had to give birth to you in a stable with cows and sheep all around me on a cold winter night, but I'm just your mother...

Betsy has a whole comedy routine built around that idea, as well as the whole Nativity story told from a Jewish perspective. It's hilarious.

Happy Anniversary to Druxy and DW Wife Sandy.

They said it would never last--and "they" were the couple! ;)

Very similar to Betsy's routine, but you missed the best punchline of all--which I won't spoil here for those of you who are coming to one of Betsy's performances.

Thanks for the belated birthday wishes DR Vixmom.
And happy birthday to THE VIXTER!!!!!

Congrats to DR George.

Happy Anniversary to DR Druxy and his wife!

In today's notes BK mentioned muffin tops. I can figure out that they must be the tops of muffins. But i have never heard of them being sold here. Is this a common food item?
-
Good morning!
Still very chilly morning which required sweatpants and a light jacket again, but the walk went well, and I enjoyed it.
-
DR Jane I was just checking the new movies that my library got in and they have something in french called MILLENIUM 2.
I had no idea they made a movie of movie number 2. This will be great. If I can get it before the 3rd book comes out it should remind me of the story of book 2. Although if they make changes (like they did with book 1) i might get confused!
-
TOD:
Probably TONKA with Sal Mineo and other Disney adventure yarns of the time like THIRD MAN ON THE MOUNTAIN and SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON.
-
With the ratings sweeps period beginning today, all of my shows are having new episodes, so a full night of BONES, FLASH FORWARD, GREY'S ANATOMY, THE OFFICE/30 ROCK, SUPERNATURAL, and THE MENTALIST. With PROJECT RUNWAY over for another season and BURN NOTICE not ready to start its new season yet, there are fewer shows to keep up with, but Thursday is still ridiculously overcrowded.
-
I hope the movie has french subtitles (i am sure it must).
It is probably similar to the first movie in that i can watch it in french or swedish with either french or swedish subtitles. I wonder if english subtitles are an option. Although it confuses me to hear french and read english (i would end up reading and not listening).
-
My work project today is the second of the Oshima films from the 1960s: VIOENCE AT NOON. Unlike yesterday's which was in color, this is in black and white, so I'll be curious to see how this director works in black and white since everything I seen from him thus far has been in color.
-
Can't say I was surprised by the elimination of last night's IDOL contestant. She's never been a favorite, and though she had a big voice, I never thought she used it especially wisely or effectively, unlike Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken who both seemed to sense when to turn it on and when to soft pedal it.
-
I hope to have some time this evening to watch something fun before prime time TV starts. I'll have to join BONES fairly quickly since I'll be watching GREY'S ANATOMY "live" due to having three shows on at the same time and only being able to record two of them simultaneously.
-
Must head downstairs now and get cleaned up for lunch out today with friends. We have a lot of TV from this week to talk about, and I'm looking forward to that.
WBBL.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And the radiators are off today. :)

Didn't muffin tops become popular after that episode of Seinfeld when Elaine said something about how she only ate the tops of a muffin and never ate the "stumps"?? Hence the muffin "top" was born?

As for the Topic of the Day...
What's a Saturday (movie) matinee?
::)
-
Otherwise, I, too would have mentioned "Jason & the Argonauts", as well as the original "Clash of the Titans".
-
That was great, Dan (the Man). I think Easter and Christmas programs would be a lot more fun if you wrote them.

It is a beautiful cooler windy day here. Just what we need before summer kicks in. I am working out in the garden today.

And happy anniversary to Druxy.

In today's notes BK mentioned muffin tops. I can figure out that they must be the tops of muffins. But i have never heard of them being sold here. Is this a common food item?
I see them sold from time to time. Often I let Keith have the muffin top because it is his favorite part of a muffin. I like them too, I'm just nice ;)
-
Beautiful day weather wise here.....and a customer now and then....so some down time as well....which is okay.
Still working out my set design for BLITHE SPIRIT......which always looks different than I draw it anyway....so I don't know why I think anyone looks at my paper.

Happy Birthday, Vixter.

Out all ready :o I wonder if all 3 movies have been filmed.
I finished the book. I tried my best to read slowly & savor every line, still it was over far too soon. I didn't mind all the names. I found Larsson's descriptions of characters so rich I usually figured out who he was talking about without remembering their names.
-
DR Sandra you must like beets. ;D
-
Nice article, George, although odd she chose to quote from two middling reviews rather than any of the many raves the show received. Bad Googling is my guess. :)

The sky is very blue and it is VERY windy and I wish the wind would stop right now.

DR Ginny I shall be returning to "A Mother & Two Daughters" this afternoon. How fast do you read? I'm on page 53.

TOD: I remember going to Saturday matinees in the small (wee) (little)(itsy-bitsy)(teensy-tinsy) town of Johnston SC in the mid-1950s. My mother would give me a quarters which got me into the theater, bought me a coke and a candy bar or a bag of popcorn.
I remember seeing serialized movies which I'd like to believe were along the lines of the Flash Gordons, but were probably less exotic but no less entertaining for the 5- to 8-year olds in attendance.
I have vivid memories of seeing "The Invisible Boy" in a matinee performance. It's a treasure to have it again as an extra on the "Forbidden Planet" DVD set (along with that incredibly cheap -- and disappointing -- plastic toy of Robby the Robot...something that could have been a prize in a box of 1956 Cracker Jacks).
-
I rewatched "Glee" on my DVR last night. And then I watched it again on Fox.com....and it looked and played splendidly that way. Enjoyed that last number in full, I did.

Does she think she looks good?
I consider this gross public indecency.

You either have to put in your birthday when you register or you have to manually enter the date on the calendar for a birthday to show up. Miss Vicky most likely did not put in her date of birth when she registered.

DR Ginny I shall be returning to "A Mother & Two Daughters" this afternoon. How fast do you read? I'm on page 53.
Well, DR Jane, since I've read the book at least twice before, I can probably skim those first 53 pages and catch up!
-
LOL-Warning you may find yourself that a lot. I'll try to read slower :) It is so dreary here we are having perfect days to relax inside & read.

It appears the trilogy was filmed together. IMBD shows all three as released in 2009

Will once again be going to Hugo's for the lunch meeting - but the West Hollywood Hugo's this time. A lot to discuss at this meeting, some of which will be VERY interesting.

Well, part of what's going to be discussed is the Kritzerland release we had to put on hold. I have a signed contract for that release, but because it's the first release of the music the "representative" of the composer's widow contacted me the day before we were to announce, telling me I didn't have the "right" to release the CD because one has to get permission from the publisher for first use and we hadn't done that. Of course, no one EVER makes a deal out of that - we put out many first use CDs, do the mechanical publishing license and that's that. In fact, this is the first time I've ever been contacted about it. Now, this turd who is making problems says he's her "representative." This is a guy who lives to make trouble for others. He knew about this release for over a week prior to contacting me, and yet he contacts me the day before our announcement. Then, when I tell him to do whatever need be done, he says he can't get hold of her.
Then MGM writes him a nice e-mail, basically saying that they would appreciate it if he'd get the deal done in a timely manner because they like me and don't want me to have any grief - nice, but loaded with implications (this guy is trying to license from them). He says he'll speak to her last Thursday. He didn't. I write him. He says it's not HIS fault - the woman is out of the country. I say funny you were able to contact her to find out that information, so what's the hangup? This release has already cost me a good chunk of dough, so today we're discussing how to proceed - one way or another, it's coming out and coming out soon. I don't think the woman has a clew as to what this fool is doing - I'm quite sure she'd like to have the music available is what I think. And since the ONLY way it's going to be available is through us (because MGM will NEVER license it to the fool and without the master recording rights he nor anyone else can do it, publishing or no publishing), I should think she'll be fine with it. She'll make some dough, and the 1000 units will sell out in days and she still owns the publishing. I'm going to take this creep DOWN.
-

I've just finished watching the brilliant conclusion to Season 3 of MAD MEN and can hardly wait for the new season to start on A & E!
-
Happy Birthday to the Vixter!!
Happy Anniversary to DR Druxy!!
-
Before I headed out for lunch, I had time to way last night's rebroadcast of THE BIG GAY SKETCH SHOW. There was a hilarious sketch parody of THE VIEW, but some of the other skits weren't all that good. The show is always up and down in quality, but they did do a great job poking at Whoopi, Baba (whose close-ups were in hilarioussoft focus), Elizabeth, and Joy.
-
When I got in from lunch, I watched today's work project VIOLENCE AT NOON. It was a disappointing effort, I felt. Two women with disturbing connections to a rapist/murderer tell their stories jumping back and forth in time. Nothing is very exciting and it seemed like a good idea just never jells here. The transfer wasn't anything to write home about either.
-
Then I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest, and, irritatingly, nothing in the previews for tomorrow either.
-
Since I had time, I went ahead and rewatched this week's GLEE episode once again. I think this is among the most openly emotional and poignant of the episodes in the series thus far, and some of those songs really hit home the more I hear them. I'm eager for the next GLEE CD to come out so I can hear the complete versions of the songs on this show. I'd venture to guess there will be complete versions of "Fire" and the various versions of "A House Is Not a Home" along with "Home."
-
Page Five Dance!!!

My Blu-rays of OUT OF AFRICA and APOLLO 13 finally arrived today, but I doubt I'll have time to watch OUT OF AFRICA when I go back down (since I'll have some writing to do later). It might have to wait for this weekend to see it.

My pleasure. It would be awful to be anticipating the return of the show this summer and then not be able to find it because you're on the wrong channel.

Now I must hop off-line so I can get some writing done. Then, I'll head downstairs and see what I'm in the mood for in this evening's viewing environment prior to primetime.

I found all three movies on IMDB by clicking on the actress's name. The two main stars are the same & I figure the entire cast is since they seemed to have been filmed one after the other.

DR George - break many legs tonight! Your audience will love the show!
-
Laura, no this has nothing to do with any of our GUESTS. This has to do with a notorious soundtrack person who lives to cause trouble. He is one of the biggest losers in history and he is about to find out just what trouble screwing around with MGM is.
-
Had a wonderful lunch - we both had the Pasta Victor and it was just as good the second time. This time I didn't have the Caesar, which was smart.
-
I then did a few errands, picked up a small package, and paid some bills.

I'm glad to know it was not one of our guests. I like to think that the guests are people who just haven't had the courage to begin posting yet.

That is true for most, but not all, of our GUESTS.

Golly, that sounds an awful lot like someone who once had an online soundtrack radio show out of Washington state...who was also the subject of a notorious rant on a certain messageboard some 12 years or so ago...and someone infamously associated with several bootlegged soundtracks.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO DR DRUXY AND MRS. DR DRUXY!
-
The Vixter IS Brutus!
Heck yes.
Anyway hi everyone!!! It's (apparently) the day I turn 7 12 17- There we go- and I'm very excited about it!!!... So, when does the instant maturity kick in?... I mean, that's what... happens, right... Dang it. Oh well. In other news, we rocked out the Shakespeare festival yesterday, and everyone in the cast has had a
Shakespeare overload
And many strange things have happened in it's hideous wake, including a team Brutus chant and many other very wierd things that will have New York residents scared to walk their dogs in public for a while. ;D
I must be off now, since the Queen of Spelling Mistakes A.K.A. my beloved Mom, is calling me to have dinner with the family. WHEE! BYE ALL!!!
-
T.O.D.
Since I missed tht movie serials by a few years, I guess the closest I had growing up were the serials on THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB. My favorites were THE HARDY BOYS.

RLP, not this person has his own label, and is very anti-bootleg. He also has entwined himself with certain composers' estates, without having any actual paperwork. He preys on these elderly folks with promises of great royalties - it's all horse manure and he's going down.
-
I think Luise Rainer found out what it was like to tangle with MGM.
-
Nice to see the birthday girl for a moment.
DR JANE that anniversary card was so sweet......I love that cat art.
-
I shall await the results of the meeting with interest - my money is on MRBK and not the NSP.
-
DR GINNY - MAD MEN will start its new season in July!
-
I have discovered - after a season of complaining that I don't like COMMUNITY or PARKS & RECREATION.....that instead of suffering through those shows....I can turn to CW and watch BONES.
-
Which I will do tonight.

"The Traveler and the Pie" is now edited, so I have only one more number for THE WIZARD OF OZ. Tomorrow morning, I will do laundry and work on the final number.
For the McGlinnventory the past two days we had Zachary Stains, tenor assoluto nudo, doing a fantastic job unpacking and setting up all of McGlinn's sound equipment while William Hicks and I sorted through a huge number of CD binders looking at what to keep, discard, or take to Academy Books to sell. DR Ben, there will be a lot of McGlinn's EMI recordings there shortly. I brought home a ton of blank CDs and DVDs to check out, enter into my iTunes if they're a McGlinn performance, to toss or keep if it's a burned CD of a commercial release, and I have till next Wednesday to finish up this spindle of 50(?) discs.
-
Off to the theater!
Until later! ;D
-
Have fun!
-
Looking forward to the Brain report.

Oh, yes.....Mr. "Did Franz Waxman Deserve An Oscar for 'A Place in the Sun'" when bits of music by other composers were also used!
-
FWIW:
I watched the first episode of "Happy Town" last night...and it's a KEEPER! Looking forward to this show.

Don't throw any hats onto beds...or chaises...or fainting couches in the dressing rooms!

RLP - exactly right.

Break a leg, George. Sorry you didn't see this before you left for the show!

Wow! What a pain in the butt! I hope this works out for you.
Your tale of woe reminded me of something that happened when I was in the process of obtaining the licenses for my Al Jolson play. [I wish I'd thought of it earlier. I'd have put it in my book.]
I found almost all of the music publishers to be very cooperative in letting me have the rights to the various Jolson songs.
The only one that said "No" was the publisher of "Sonny Boy". [How can you do a Jolson play without "Sonny Boy"?]
The publisher, whose name I don't recall, owned the lion's share of the copyright, but in researching the song, I discovered that a very small percentage of the song was owned by a very nice lady that I'd never heard of...AND SHE GAVE ME THE LICENSE.
[Under copyright law, unless there is a contract restriction, any person who owns a portion of a copyright can license that work...providing that all owners get their fair share of the payment.]
I asked this lady how she happened to own a portion of the copyright. Turns out that she was the widow of the illegitimate son of composer Buddy DeSylva. DeSylva had willed it to his offspring.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed telling the publishing company's rep that I had the rights.
;D

One more day of work before I head to LA ! I'm going to see Chicago, the Musical, with our own Brent Barrett!
-
Have fun KevinH :) I was planning to go to LA next month & can't make it now.

My wedding anniversary had an unexpected conclusion.
Sandy and I began the afternoon by going to the LBJ Library, which was fascinating. Anybody who visits Austin should go there.
After that, we checked into our hotel, then went out and had a very nice dinner at one of the town's premier sushi restaurants.
:)
We went back to the hotel and started to watch some TV. Suddenly, there was a "pop" and the TV started smoking. Lots of smoke.
:o
We both felt a little uncomfortable after that, so we left the hotel and now we're home.
But, the evening is not over.
::)

DR George:
Why did I have it in my head that your opening night was tomorrow night. Is tonight the opening or the final dress? Of course, I wish you many broken limbs, but I traditionally do this with an opening night. If it is tonight, I hope you know I wish you and the rest of the cast the very best of luck.
-
DR GINNY - MAD MEN will start its new season in July!
I wonder if I can get the first 3 seasons watched before then, so that I will be current when the new season stars.
-
I checked the running times of both OUT OF AFRICA and VAN HELSING. Both were well over 2 hours, so I just watched more BONES episodes. One was about the woman's crushed body in cardboard. Another was about the skeleton for a rock band's stage show that's discovered to be a real person, not a stage prop. And a third had to do with a body in a million pieces from being frozen with liquid nitrogen. All fun episodes, and the rock band one featuring another welcome appearance by Stephen Fry.
-
Good gravy, DR Druxy! What in the world were you two watching on the hotel tv to cause it to explode like that?

Oh, sure. There are only 13 episodes or so per season.

Then I watched tonight's new BONES episode. It was another one revolving around rock music (a fantasy rock and roll camp), never one of my favorite subjects for the team to investigate. An OK mystery, but the show was just as much about everyone's romantic and/or sexual partners.

And then I watched tonight's GREY'S ANATOMY "live." I've pretty much decided I'll stay with the show through the end of this season but will be dropping it at the end of the season. There is just too much personal stuff going on now that intrudes on the hospital drama, and I'm just not interested any more in these manufactured dilemmas for everyone.

Thanks for the clarification. At least I can go to sleep knowing I haven't totally lost my mind or my memory.

DR Laura Keith is making pop corn tonight. I never mentioned your comments, he thought of it all by himself. :)
Following is a description of the popcorn he uses:
"Ruby Red Popcorn is a smaller kernel popcorn that pops bright white with small red hull speckles. It has a rich nutty flavor that everyone loves! Raised with love on our very own farm in northwest Iowa"
And yes, it is red.

No, DR Jane, don't change your reading plans for me. I have a Molly Murphy I'm trying to finish in time to take back to the library tomorrow, plus 3 Castle episodes to watch on the DVDs that I have to take back tomorrow.
-
I'll will start another book & wait for you. Let me know when you are ready. :)

Well we are back from the Vixter's birthday dinner at the Outback
The food was good but the service was horrible
Twice I had to go to the host nad ask him to find our waitress and Vixdea went to the bar for a glass of ice water after asking 3 times and waiting 15 minutes and the place was empty - dead - there were 2 other tables and they were 2 tops
and they were being waited on by someone else
We sat there again for nearly 15 minutes trying to pay at the end and the manager finally noticed we were getting very annoyed
He came by and after hearingour litany of complaints - no follow up, crab legs served withourt butter, ice cream and coffee served without spoons, and a MIA waitress he knocked 33% off the bill (there were 7 of us there) and gave out 2 free appetizer coupons for another visit
-
I'll be moving on to my third Oshima film tomorrow for my work project. It's called SING A SONG OF SEX. I think it is the longest of the five films in the set. It's also in color like the first one in the set was.
-
Happy Wedding Day to all the Brockmans may it be wonderful!
-
Now I guess I'll close up shop here and head downstairs and go to bed.
Good night!

Be careful - it made Druxy's TV explode!

Happy anniversary to the Druxmans (Druxmen?)
-
Last night after watching the Shakespeare festival we came across Hamlet on Great Performances - David Tennant played Hamlet and Patrick Stewart played both Dad and Uncle
I caught it midway through and then was called away - I want to see if I can find it on DVD it seemed quite interesting - and the Vixter likes both Hamlet and David Tennant so I expect she would enjouy the combination very much
-
David Wechter stopped by and got his book, then I delivered a book to muse Margaret - and now I shall watch something.
-
Has anyone seen the preview for the Sex & The City 2 movie that opens at the end of May? I saw it and it looks so good. I cannot wait to see this movie.
-
There is one part of the preview where a past character showed up and i gasped!
-

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIXTER~~~~

Happy Anniversary DR Druxy and Sandy
-
Welcome twelve GUESTS.
-
Long day.
Took a wonderful walk through the residential streets around my new place for some ideas on which plants do best. Decided to stick with the drought resistant beach theme. This will be fun, have not had a yard so to speak of, for many years.
Yea for the weekend.
-
The long time locals have incredible restored 100 year old houses here. The ocean view from high up on the hill was beautiful. Saw the islands off the coast.
Night all.
Break a leg George. :) ;) ;D 8)
-
Looking forward to the Brain report.
And here it is:
Tonight, we had our very first audience...TAO's final dress rehearsal is always a $5 (or more) donation performance and we had about a third of the house fill! The first act went a little shorter than last night's performance without an audience! The second act went a little bit longer...people weren't picking up the pace as they had been. The audience really seemed to enjoy it and there were only a couple of scene change goobers. Otherwise, we had a pretty good first audience show!
-
Excellent!
-
Did you have a good mark for The Brain Tap?
