Title: MAY I?
Post by: bk on May 01, 2010, 12:02:15 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very May-like, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - on their calendar it's not May, it's Moo, the lusty month of Moo.

Anxiously awaiting the Brain report.

Last night, TAO had our opening night of The Brain From Planet X!  The theater is set up to hold about 77 seats, stadium-style, so you can see everything from every seat.  I don't know the official count, but it looked to me like we were at least two-thirds filled.  The show went quite well.  Josh told us that act one went about 63 minutes, but act two was about 54 minutes!  (I must say that Josh tends to take some of the tempos a little faster than the tempos on the CD. ::))

That's about the right length, really.  Did you get some nice laughs - I always say if you get the first laugh of the show - the Feel-o-Rama gag with the audience plant, then you're safe.

They love that first Feel-O-Rama gag!  The plant and the actress who feels him are the people who play Rod and Donna.  Then he just picks her up and carries her backstage.

Good morning, all! I didn't get to bed until 1:30 and I slept quite soundly most of the night. My last dream was an endless and strange one about the Victor Herbert recordings in the fall: I was driving in a car with Rebecca Luker and she was unhappy about the late arrival of her music and I remember being in a studio with Dillon McCartney and dealing with huge shellac discs. It was all peculiar but my memory is that it was also interminable; I just can't remember any more of it.

So, this morning I vacuum and clean off my table to make some work space so Joseph and I can go through my OZ edits and his questions around 1 pm. I don't know if we'll go to lunch first or after. He likes Chinese and Thai, so it will be one of those. After that, I think I will begin the final packing of these 14 cartons of books, programs, music and ephemera for the MU Library. Chris said he may stop by if he goes for a run in Central Park, and if he shows, maybe I'll go for a walk with him.

Tonight, I'm back to BONES Season Four; DR MattH has jumped ahead of me.

Good morning!

Once again, it was another ten degrees warmer this morning tahn it was yesterday morning. I think we can safely say that finally we have left winter behind. I hope May won't be TOO warm. May! I can't believe it! What happened to the first four months of the year?
Title: Re: MAY I?
Post by: Matt H. on May 01, 2010, 07:43:02 AM
I did not take my walk this morning; I mowed the front yard instead. It probably could have gone a few more days, but we're scheduled to have rain during the next four days, and I didn't want to risk having an Amazon rain forest to mow by the time it dried out again.
Title: Re: MAY I?
Post by: Matt H. on May 01, 2010, 07:45:02 AM
LOL, DR Elmore. I didn't get any BONES episodes watched yesterday, but I would like to continue on with them today. I know one of them involves that Japanese scientist with the indefinite gender they spend the entire episode pondering about. And, of course, I remember the controversial season finale that's a fever dream while Booth is unconscious. I can't remember anything else about the upcoming episodes even though I've seen them multiple times at this point.

I will be watching SUPERNATURAL and FLASHFORWARD today, and since I found out that Gerald McCullough was on this week's CSI, I'll go to HD On Demand and watch that at some point today, too, maybe tonight after I've finished today's work project.

Yesterday since the Fox Movie Channel was showing CAN-CAN, they aired a two part interview with Shirley MacLaine so I recorded those and watched them while I ate lunch. She talked about the infamous visit by Nikita Kruschev and his wife, the special lunch prepared at the Fox commisary for 400 of Hollywood's elite (I hadn't heard about this), and, of course, the famous story of the two Russians being taken to the soundstage where CAN-CAN was filming where the dance was done for them. (And which they found immoral.)

Shirley said her dress weighed 75 pounds, and unlike during filming, they danced the whole number from beginning to end and she thought she was going to have a heart attack before it was over. She also talked about some of her other famous films, but, naturally, it was a very surface interview that didn't delve into any of the films very much

I also recorded an interview with one of the creators/producers/writers for GLEE which was about 20 minutes long and watched that. They only showed clips from the pilot, so I'm thinking the interview was done sometimes early last fall before the show had run very long.

I also had time this afternoon to watch Thursday night's THE OFFICE. Not one of the better episodes there either, Micahel being his own worst enemy when it comes to wooing a woman. Funnier were Dwight's endeavors to get the right person enrolled into the minority management program. That had some funny lines and characters.

Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

Here's another way the insurance company screws its customers makes money:  Require patients to order meds by mail, encourage them to put them on automatic renewal, and count on the patient forgetting that minor detail when the physician takes her off that particular medication.  Today I received in the mail a cholesterol-lowering drug that my doctor told me to stop and, of course, I didn't think to call and "unenroll" (isn't that great corporate-speak?).  You can't return dispensed prescription medications, so I'm out the co-pay.  I might as well have taken $50 and flushed it down the toilet.

Oh Ginny :(  I prefer to order & collect my own meds.  You have just re-enforced my decision.  I'm sorry it had to happen with such an expensive medication.  I'm surprised there isn't some sort of email reminder for those who want it.

The ass slammed the door about an hour ago to let me know he was leaving and the dog's been barking for the past 15 minutes.

DR Ginny, my OZ presentation will be on Friday night and the performance is on Saturday night in Canton. I've been thinking about what I'll discuss. I'll also be the host for a presentation of a few of the many manby many songs written and interpolated into the score.

I just finished a humongous article on reconstructing OZ. I think I passed the asked-for 500 words miles ago.

DR vixter, enjoy the laptop! How were the tests?

We were able to get the 3 laptops instead of one desktop.  They don't have very many features but we have the old desktop one for that stuff  and we can all surf thenet at once!!!

I began my evening with the next to last Oshima film in the box set: JAPANESE SUMMER: DOUBLE SUICIDE.

It was a tiresome, irritating allegory about unsettled, rebellious Japanese youth of 1967 seemingly doing the same thing many American youths at the time were doing: rebelling against the establishment on college campuses and in the streets. It was like a hackneyed off-Broadway play with character-types instead of real characters (brute, sage, strong silent type, impetuous youth, conniver, and one promiscuous female who spends the entire movie begging every one of these men to sleep with her) and mostly taking place in a single setting.

I have watched and reviewed ELIZABETH and ELIZABETH THE GOLDEN AGE.  I also finished THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS.  And I mowed most of our .66 acre lawn.  And I lit a fire under the realtor's butt to get him to make this deal work.  My day is finito.  :)

Tomorrow is our big choral fest where a choir of hopefully around 60-70 singers will be doing my arrangement of NOW THE GREEN BLADE RISETH and my new composition dedicated to the victims of all the earthquakes, MOVED.  If I get a decent recording of either/both, I'll upload it to my site and foist it on all of you here.  :)

I celebrated it finally ending by watching three more BONES episodes. Among these were the one about the Japanese girl who was decapitated that I mentioned earlier. There was also one about the college mascot murdered. And there was the one about the team going to a funeral and suspecting the corpse was murdered rather than having died of a heart attack, one of the funnier episodes in the series' history.

All were very enjoyable. The last one about the college mascot death also featured the last (to date) episode featuring Booth's younger brother played by the always stunning Brendan Fehr.

I wondered about that but thought perhaps you have to do research on the tecnical aspects of the transfer before reviewing it - I have another question - do you find it difficult to fairly review a movies when the subject matter is not appealing to you personally?

Rob took a message for me from the doctor's office while I was a today's fundraiser.  Based on yesterday's blood test, they're increasing my dosage of blood thinner and suggesting a retest in 2 weeks instead of the month it had been.  That info, combined with the twinges I'm feeling in my left leg, compels me to call the office first thing Monday to see if I should be concerned about another clot.

...DR Ginny, my OZ presentation will be on Friday night and the performance is on Saturday night in Canton. I've been thinking about what I'll discuss. I'll also be the host for a presentation of a few of the many manby many songs written and interpolated into the score....

Thanks, DR Elmore.  We're thinking we'll drive to Canton on Friday for your presentation and stay until Sunday (Fr. Richard has been granted that day off).  Do you know where you're staying?

I don't but I can find out.

I just watched the ones about the body that was hit by a meteor after being frozen with the two Hodgins/Nigel-Murray tests including the frozen turkey and the bridezilla one using the pizza oven technique. I laughed a lot.

The damned dog barked again from 9:30 to 10:05. I guess the ass never did by the pet shop aid to control barking as he claimed he would do last year.

Good Evening!

And yes... There was a bomb square earlier tonight in Times Square.  And, right now, most of Times Square is currently blocked off as bomb-detecting robots search for other possible devices.  :-\

*There are a bunch of tweets from people stranded on the side streets since they're not able to get into their hotels.  And a friend of mine is sitting in Columbus Circle right now with his cousin and his friends.  His cousin was supposed to have his bachelor party earlier tonight. Well... That didn't happen, and, apparently, they might not be allowed access to their hotel until tomorrow morning!!!!

Catching up on my TV shows and clearing my DVR cache before the new week starts.  Tonight I watched "Bones", "Supernatural" and -- for the fourth time -- "Glee"!

I have ten hours of world championship figure skating broadcasts still hogging space in my cache.  I need to watch those and be done with them.

Thankfully(?), I was down in the East Village at New York Theatre Workshop seeing Claudia Shear's new play, Restoration.  It was their second preview - and I won the tickets via an online drawing.  Anyhoo...

It's an interesting premise: the restoration of Michelangelo's "David".  Well, the "scrubber" who is handling the restoration and the people she has to deal with during the process. I liked it, and would like to see how the show runs once it's a bit more "settled". Claudia Shear plays, Giulia, the "scrubber", and the every-dashing and hunky Jonathan Cake portrays the main security guard with whom she develops a friendship.  *And it was fun(?) hearing his Italian accent wander into other countries from time to time. ;)

A little quiet around these here parts.  Not quiet where I am, though - just finished watching Return Of The King.  And now I am listening to the new master for the title I'm announcing in a mere forty minutes.  It's quite loud and so much fun for any classic B-movie lover.

Waiting on the announcement and doing updates for the Youth Theatre Workshop on the theatre website.

Or as I like to call it - the biggest waste of summer time since Bible School.
