Yes, MR BK I enjoyed the book even more than my review might indicate  -  I hope it sells MANY books, and as I wrote - anyone who orders the book might as well order the NUDIE dvd at the same time, because after reading the book, you are going to want to see the movie....LOL

Once on the old Steve Allen syndicated show.....so many years ago, Miss Karen Valentine was a guest.  She was most interesting.  She told Steve that her family was not encouraging when she decided to go into show business.

She began as a contestant in the Miss Teen USA pageant, i think, and was Miss California....or at least Miss Whatever her home town was.  Her talent was doing a hula dance to some rock and roll song.  The producers of the Ed Sullivan Show saw her on the pageant, and even though she didn't win, asked her to do her hula dance on the show.

She said yes......and laughed.....and then Steve surprised her by showing the clip!!!

I haven't been buying many new DVDs or CDs of late, mostly because I still don't know what the policy is regarding having packages delivered here at my new place of work.  And everytime I see something in a store, I look at the price and I think. "Well, I can get this cheaper on Amazon."  I haven't really seen much of anything that I want to but immediately.  I still haven't bought the A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC revival recording or the OCR for AMERICAN IDIOT.

I'm also hesitant about the EVENING PRIMROSE DVD that, having been delayed from a May release to late June, was actually released last week with a price increase to $28.00.  The page on Amazon shows no image of the DVD package and even though it's being touted as remastered, I'm leery of it turning out to be  a shoddy product.

I'll start work today on the second season of FLASHPOINT. inspecting the package this morning, I was surprised to find there are only nine (9) episodes in this second season set! I doubt I will get all nine done today, but I'll get a good many done, and I'm looking forward to them because this is a show that mixes action with pathos about as well as any I have ever seen. And I adore the lead actors Enrico Colantoni and Hugh Dillon.

This morning I was reinstalling one of my Blu-ray players, and I put in the DVD of DOCTOR DOLITTLE (1967 musical version) to check the upconversion and sound.

It struck me that even though this was a fairly early DVD release, this DVD still holds up beautifully and is a simply gorgeous transfer. I don't know if it's the Todd-AO photography or what, but I can't WAIT for this to one day be available in high definition.

I also got sucked into the movie, too. Was just going to watch Newley's "My Friend the Doctor" and just sat there watching "The Vegeterian," "Talk to the Animals," and "At the Crossroads" along with the dialogue scenes between them. The film may be too long and sprawl a bit, but I think I find it more accomplished and entertaining now than I did when it was first released.

Good morning, all! The jerk above me didn't come home last night - if he did he was unusually quiet - and I slept very late. I have some work here to do, so I will stay home today amd accomplish what I can.

Yesterday was a good McGlinnventory day and almost everything went well. I left a large pot of vegetable beef soup sitting out last night because I forgot to put iit into the refrigerator after it had cooled down, so I'm wondering if it's still good, or if I should pitch it.

Well, about an hour ago, I had almost hit "purchase" on a 2:15 flight from newark to Seattle, which would have gotten to Seattle at 5:30 and was a very reasonable price, even an aisle seat.  Felt that something mad like a quick whirlwind trip would help relieve the tax work issues that have (after the killing work of tax season) arisen from the firm's merger - which I'll not write about here EVER, because there may be "issues" - to say the least.  :)

Just went back to the Continental site, really planning to do it, leave in 5 minutes, but now my aisle seat is gone - and not for anything will I fly in a middle seat from Newark to Seattle.

It felt good that I could have done it.  probably much better that I didn't

Yes.  And, on a totally different project, with my Dear Wife as well.

Fanny, I thought, was the best of all the Encores shows I've seen.  It illuminated what my parents loved in 1954 - a tempestuously romantic musical, with high stakes situations in every scene.  And most of the audience had never seen it, unlike, say, Bells Are Ringing, so it was just the sort of thing Encores ought to be doing.  I take far too much pride in suggesting Marc consider it.

I will be serious about it:

FANNY at Encores was really, in all respects, the essence of what anyone reasonable would ever have wanted a company like Encores to do:  present a show we surely would never have seen get a full-scale commercial Broadway revival in our lifetimes, and do it in such an entertaining fashion.

But that would've been so cool if you had, Fred! :D

Then I began on today's work project: FLASHPOINT, Season Two. The first disc had four episodes, and I watched all of them. Of them, I had seen three when the show was broadcast on CBS, but I had never seen one of them, so that was special fun.

Two of them had me in tears by the end of the show, one of the things I love about how gut-wrenching the emotions are sometimes with this series, especially when the criminals aren't really bad people but get pushed into impossible situations.

I put in the second disc which has the five remaining episodes and three bonus featurettes. Together those bonuses are going to run about 13 minutes, so I know I can get them watched tonight, and we'll see how many other episodes I can get under my belt. If I have a chance of finishing this tonight, I'll record GHOST WHISPERER and just watch MEDIUM.

BK - a question:  When someone orders more than one thing, do you always wait for the second thing to be in stock before you send the first thing, so that you ship only once?

If so, aren't you concerned that once this happens to someone once, this could make that person not order more than one thing at a time - it almost sounds like their "reward" for being a "better" customer and ordering item A and item B together instead of just item A can sometimes be waiting almost a week longer than everyone else for item A?  Or is my logic wrong somewhere?

It's never happened to me, but I'd never order two things together if it meant the first thing would be held until the second thing got there a week later.  Do they save anything by ordering two things?

Just notice that the movie (Name escapes me at the moment) that BK filmed a few years ago (a sci fi musical) and had been list as still in production for several years has now disappeared from IMDB. I take that the film is never going to be released not even directly to video. I guess they never did get enough money to complete it.

Consider it a lost film of BK. The one that could have garnered him an Oscar nomination from the clips that I saw. :-)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANISE!!

Thank you, Dear Jane for all the lovely dog/birthday pictures!

Sheena and Toby had their first real dog fight the other night.  I knew it would happen because both of them are Alpha's.  I think Sheena lost because now things have calmed back down and I notice a BIG difference in the way Sheena acts towards Toby.  Age and size can't beat youth and agility--at least sometimes.

So I now have:
Sheena--Queen of the Dog Park and
Toby the Terrible.  He rules with an iron paw! :)

Thanks, BK.  It never occurred to me, but I see that's standard business practice.

Since I'm the type who places an order on the web and then immediately goes to sit by the intercom waiting for UPS to buzz up, that's good to know that multiple-item ordering is not consistent with my personality type.  :)

I'm exaggerating based on an old Jrand joke, but it happens with a place like Barnes and Noble more often than you'd expect - I've placed an order at 11 a.m. and the intercom rang at 1:30 with my book order.

Thank you for the lovely card, Dear MBarnum!  I never asked or have seen it posted, where do you get all your cards?  You know one time I was in a GoodWill and saw a whole album filled with old cards and letters.  Some one had taken a good deal of care with a lifetime of memories.  I imagine that person must have pasted away and her treasures just went to Goodwill.  I thought that was sad and was tempted to buy it but my Mom said "What would you do with that?".

I didn't get it but I've often thought about it.

A good example of creative reuse:

A long established church, that rebuilt for more room outside of town, has been converted into a Performing Arts Center, a small mall of speciality shops, and a few apartments

Actually, that walk was Tuesday - it's much more crowed today now that Mother's Day weekend is upon us.

Today's exercise consisted a potting a bunch of tomato plants and then walking to the store to meet Woody.

Danise, you don't sound too upset so I'm guessing the fight was more noise than bite. :)

It was a bit of a knock down drag out but no skin was broken/no blood.  One I had enough, I stood up and did a bit of yelling and Toby got his little butt spanked for snapping not only at Sheena but me as well.  He thought he was on a roll but I showed him who is the real leader of the pack.  It never fails to amaze me how a few swats (not very hard) on the Attitude Adjustment Area (AKA the butt) can be used on both children and dogs to correct many problems.  :)

Once that was over, everything settled down and now all is well.

Yes, she was VERY nice.  I wrote the zoo and told them about her.  I don't know if I ever told you that I did that.  I got a very nice email back (not from her but the director) who thanked me for taking the time to write and let them know.  I'm sure he passed my words of praise along to her.

I know what you mean.  Sherlock has pulled my arm too hard a few times.  It doesn't bother me as much now.  He doesn't even have to pull hard.  If he decides to walk towards something I get dragged along.  I remember when I thought it would be fun to have a dog that weighs more than I do. Well, it is cool to be able to say it :)

No it isn't and will NOT be allowed in this house.  After Toby had his Adjustment, I haven't seen it happen again.  I'm sure he will try at least once or twice more (he is still a puppy) but no more then that.  He just has to learn his place in this pack.  You may be over Sheena but me top dog.

I find it kinda funny since Sheena lorded over poor Bear.  This is whole new experience for her.

Wow, I have no idea what's going to happen later, Internet-wise, so if the notes don't go up tonight, they won't go up until I return to LA tomorrow.  I'm on, then suddenly it doesn't work.  This time, when I did the diagnostic it told me I needed a password even though the hotel uses no password system for wireless.  Then suddenly it works again.  Too erratic, and while I'm sure the front desk is annoyed by my repeated calls, they are being very snippy - the latest was that they'd be happy to check me out and refund in total.  If I knew where there was another hotel, I'd do it - but the nearest one is a mile away and that I'm not doing.  However, they will get no recommendation from me.  He said if it's trouble later that if I come to the lobby it should work there, since the lobby is true wireless (they brought a router to my room).  So, if that's true, I guess I can do notes from down there.

Good Morning! Good Afternoon! Good Evening!

I'm up, I'm up... And, well... I've been up for a while now. ;) -Thankfully(?), right before I drifted off to sleep last night, I remembered that I had set up a Genius Bar appointment at the Apple Store for earlier today, this morning at 10:30.

Well...

I made it down to the Apple Store on time, and while I was waiting to be called up to the Bar, I got a text from my landlord informing me that "they" would be working on the electrical system for the whole building today. Alas, part of that work would include turning off the power to the building for 20-30 minutes at a time throughout the day. Well... Since it was such a nice day outside, I decided to go ahead and stay "mobile" for the afternoon.

And about 15 miles later...

OH! My MacBook went "into the shop" at 11:05.  While I was taking the crosstown bus, they called to tell me that the repair was finished and that I could pick it up.  -That was at 11:25!!!!  -I was just having the "top plate" replaced, which apparently is a "Level 1" repair, very easy.

I picked it up around 7:45.  -I did walk to the Apple Store, but then I hopped on a bus and a subway to get home. Oh, my feet! My poor, poor feet!

I agree. Guessing the identity of the killer was very easy, and I figured out why very early, too. Even knowing this WAY ahead of time didn't keep the episode from thoroughly holding my attention, and what a great showcase for the young actress playing Ariel. She really took the ball and scored a touchdown. Bravo, Sofia!

bk - It "simply" sounds like your hotel has a very weak signal.  You should not have to run the Network Diagnostics each time the signal hiccups.*  Just turn off your Airport for a few seconds, then turn it back on. That should do it.
