Well, you've read the notes, the notes were luxuriating just thinking about the long, long weekend, and now it is time for you to post until the luxuriating cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MEIOSIS!
-
Welcome eight GUESTS.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Arnold M. Brockman!! ;D
-
Last night, I worked concessions for a local production of Schoolhouse Rock! Live! (http://www.olyft.org/) It was delightfully delightful. Four of the actors, the director and the music director were all involved in The Brain From Planet X, and I knew almost everyone else involved with the show. :)
-
Laura is up late.
-
And so am I. Just trying to finish listening to a CD that never seems to end.
-
And I'm jiggy with that.
-
Fast.
-
Post deleted.
-
I could just keep posting until we get to page two or until the CD actually ends.
-
George is up late.
-
George was the Donna in this show?
-
For a moment I dreamed we were on page two. It was a lovely dream - then I woke up to the harsh realities that we are on page one.
-
Thanks to a certain defector (and SO unnecessary - every time I think about it it makes me want to vomit on the ground), we are about to have our lowest posting month in over two years.
-
George was the Donna in this show?
Nope...Fred, Joyce, Yoni and our Naughty Nurse. Josh was only the music director. Christine, who played the Theremin for The Brain, directed SHRL.
-
This CD is STILL playing. I have the feeling it's one of the longest single CDs in history.
-
So, Laura came and went without so much as a post?
-
She's not the postess with the mostess on the ball.
-
My Lord, I wish this CD was over.
-
I think this might be the last track?
-
Nope, I spoke to soon.
-
Too soon I spoke.
-
My Lord, I wish this CD was over.
You could always push the "stop" button.
;)
-
It's STILL playing and now I'm determined to tough it out until it's done!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I'm thinking we can get to page two.
-
Maybe THIS is the last track?
-
It sounds big.
-
Maybe not.
-
Oh, please let this be over.
-
Well, no one can say we didn't get to page two.
-
It is pretty rare to be on page 2 this early in the morning. :)
-
Morning, all.
Way too early, but the good news is that after three hours, I head into straight overtime for the week, and I have to work Saturday, too.
-

A BIG HHW CHEER AND SONGS GALORE FOR DEAR READER ARNOLD M. BROCKMAN!!! :D
-
Good morning, all! I've got laundry this morning and another trip to a copier to enlarge another Victor Herbert manuscript to decipher some lyrics.
I still haven't figured out the mystery word from yesterday, and given the amount of original lyrics I see on this board, I'm still hoping one of our creative geniuses will figure out the word. I'm stymied. It's a 2-syllable word with the accent on the first syllable. Here's the complete first verse:
When the sun in golden splendor
Sinks behind the distant hills,
Then a ____________ sweetly tender
All my inward beng thrills;
With the breath of springtime laden
Mirrored in the twilight air,
There appears a beauteous maiden
Tall of form, divinely fair.
Herbert's manuscript does not give a writer credit, so I have no idea what hack provided this; I looked up the first line on Google, hoping it might be in a collection of fourth-rate Victorian poetry, but no such luck! Two of the songs we're recording have texts by Swinburne, and there are a large number of songs sety to German poetry. Then there are songs with this drivel.

DR George re: GHOST WHISPERER. It was looking like ABC would pick it up. But I just read this morning that they will not and the show is cancelled.
-
DR TCB re: the Sex & The City 2 movie gettting a bomb rating.
I can only speak for myself. And it makes me feel bad/sad/mad when a movie i'm looking forward to seeing gets a bomb rating. But it makes me even more upset when they let someone review it who knows they will hate it before even going in. It just makes me wonder why bother making that person sit through it. And why make me read it.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Arnold Brockman!

The Cleo Laine album also has a delicious YOU MUST BELIEVE IN SPRING.
-
HAPPY NATAL DAY DR ARNOLD!
-
Larry, could the mystery word be "calling"?
That's a very good choice! I was thinking of using "fancy" and admitting in the recording notes and on the new copy that the word was conjectural, but I think your lyric choice is better. Thank you.
-
Friday morning greetings! It's still very muggy here in SW Ohio and we're expecting storms throughout the day.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR ArnoldMBrockman!
-
DR JMK takes the cake! I will be acknowledge him in the notes to the new recording. He will be in good company, with excellent scholars and copyists.

Our family had some bad news yesterday. My nephew Daniel (my younger brother Dan's son) was diagnosed with lymphoma. He had been suffereing from extreme stomach pain and they found he had a blockage in his intestines, which the doctors removed last week. Test revealed cancer.
He is only 25 years old and has two young children. Just so sad, and he is such a good kid.
So, any spare good thoughts, prayers, or vibes would be most welcomed as he begins chemotherapy.
-
Here is a letter to the editor that appears in today's local newspaper:
'Very Disappointed' (http://www.middletownjournal.com/opinion/very-disappointed-731872.html)
Now, Gardner-Harvey Library is where I spent the first 12 years of my librarian career, the second 6 as director. I'm wondering why, over the last 25 (count 'em, 25) years, the 3 subsequent directors have let the building deteriorate to such an extent?
-
DR MBarnum - vibes to your nephew Daniel. He will be on Holy Nativity's prayer list on Sunday.
-
bK, I finished your book the other day. What a wonderful reading experience it was, and I mean that most sincerely.
Not only are you a great story teller (which of course, is something I have known for years), you have had a very intersting life and it was a great joy for me to not only know more about someone that I consider a friend, but to learn about 1970s Hollywood from one who was there
-
Thank you DR Ginny!
-
Mikey, I am so sorry to hear this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes to the Nephew of DR MBarnum! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I am starting a 4 day weekend and must decide if I will begin with a trip to Corvallis to try out the Indian restaurant there (for lunch) or get the lawn mowed and the weeds pulled.
-
Thanks Elmore. Daniel is young and healthy (well, except for the cancer thing) and we have great hope that he will make it through this ok.
Here's my final bit of Herbert doggerel for the day. This manuscript looks as if he accidentally spilled something on the original.
I've filled in in parentheses what the lyrics look like to me, but it's speculation and I'm hoping one of you may have a better idea. When you read what he was given that's legible, you'll know how far the world of lyric writing has advanced, and it validates my opinion that Herbert, unlike Sullivan, lacked one thing: a really good writer like W.S. Gilbert:
Somewhere there is somebody to love me,
Someone to make me a blushing bride;
His heart like my own will be so lonely,
Only
'Til fate comes to bring him to my side.
(Refrain 1)
My day will come, I know,
A gypsy told me so;
_____ _____ _____ _____ ______blessed
(My lot the heav'ns have)
For in the west
My love is calling;
Fair is he, with millions saved for me.
For years she tells me he has found me enthralling.
(Refrain 2)
Soon wedding bells will chime,
Ring in our wedding time;
My heart shall be his throne
Where he alone
Shall reign forever;
Love __ ____ ___ ____ ___ weight in gold,
(I'm told, is worth its)
Oh, happy day day when I shall call him my own!
But it makes me even more upset when they let someone review it who knows they will hate it before even going in. It just makes me wonder why bother making that person sit through it. And why make me read it.
But there is the catch DR Jennifer, I would not have read it, or at least stopped reading it once I knew the reviewer was destined not to like it. I know the feeling of looking forward to the release of a movie only to read bad reviews.
So, any spare good thoughts, prayers, or vibes would be most welcomed as he begins chemotherapy.
Of course there are plenty of spare good thought, prayers and vibes for your nephew. I will keep him in my thoughts that he will beat this.
Your family is so confusing, is this nephew also the nephew of our FedEx guy?
TOD: lots of review stuff, including a nice version of Poulenc's DIALOGUES DES CARMELITES and the hilariously awful 1980 FLASH GORDON.
LOL, DR Elmore! This was my mother-in-law's favorite expression - did you learn it from Harriet?
I think my copyist and I figured ot between us the second song lyric I posted. I don't want royalties, I want a purple heart.
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And I guess it is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend.
You guess? What kind of Thursday night did you have?
Well... Since you asked...
I was very tired and sleepy when I walked into my bedroom last night, but, of course, as soon as my head hit the pillow, well... -I guess I must have hit it too hard, since I ended up wide awake for the next hour or two. Not exactly a restless night of sleep, just no sleep. Alas, no 10:00am screening of "SATC2". -There are much worse fates in life. ;)
-
I've got several friends, including Jonathan Tunick who supervised the Strauss music, involved in PARADISE FOUND, the new Harold Prince-Susan Strohman musical that opened in London this week to pretty lousy reviews, most 2 out of 5 star reviews. Oy!
-
Post deleted!
-
DR Jennifer - In regards to the reviews of "SATC2"... Since it sounds like you were going to see the movie regardless - and since it seems that you would like it anyway - why even bother reading the reviews?
*And, conversely, would you want to read and trust a review by someone who was predisposed to LOVE the movie.
-
Looks like a nice day, but pretty windy out there.
Strangely enough, I think this casting is sort of brilliant:
EXCLUSIVE: Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch May Make Night Music On Broadway (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/139898-EXCLUSIVE-Bernadette-Peters-and-Elaine-Stritch-May-Make-Night-Music-On-Broadway)
However, if they were able to pull this off, I can't imagine the amount of entrance and exit applause and hoots and hollers after every number for either actress. :-\
-
JMK, do you plan on sending out change of address notices?
We sent them out to magazines, etc. If you personally want it, just let me know.
LOL, I'm letting you know. :)
-
Thanks JMK.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Listening to a CD (the first of many today).
-
BK, has the "big package" gone out?
-
I'm pretty much not taking any telephonic calls today.
It's a BIG package and it's going out today.
Jennifer - I was looking forward to seeing it and am glad I did. Is it the best movie or shooting for an Oscar? No, but I don't think anyone ever pretended it would be. If you liked the characters and you want to just have some silly fun - then you'll like it evern if the critics don't
Health vibes for DR MBarnum's nephew Daniel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DR TCB re: the Sex & The City 2 movie gettting a bomb rating.
I can only speak for myself. And it makes me feel bad/sad/mad when a movie i'm looking forward to seeing gets a bomb rating. But it makes me even more upset when they let someone review it who knows they will hate it before even going in. It just makes me wonder why bother making that person sit through it. And why make me read it.
But there is the catch DR Jennifer, I would not have read it, or at least stopped reading it once I knew the reviewer was destined not to like it. I know the feeling of looking forward to the release of a movie only to read bad reviews.
Glad to hear i'm not the only one who feels this way.
The thing is if the movie was terrible then i wouldn't mind so much. Because i'd feel like this guy did me a favor by letting me know how bad it is. But I would have rather that they had gotten somebody in the demographic and specified that grumpy old men might not like it! ;)
-
Aww. I read that he was on life-support.
-
Many vibes and prayers for DR MBarnum's nephew Daniel.
-
DR Jennifer - In regards to the reviews of "SATC2"... Since it sounds like you were going to see the movie regardless - and since it seems that you would like it anyway - why even bother reading the reviews?
*And, conversely, would you want to read and trust a review by someone who was predisposed to LOVE the movie.
It's hard to explain. But what DR Jane wrote sort of expresses how i feel. Yes I would go to see SATC2 regardless of what that guy wrote. But I like seeing what other people think. And it really really bugged me to see it get a bomb rating. I guess what bugged me most is so many people love the series and the first movie and for them to let someone who hated both do the reviewing. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.
RE: your second question. I"m not crazy about people who love everything or who think not so good things are great. But if it was a fan of the series and the first movie who really wrote a well thought out review then yes it would make me very happy! :)
-
Gosh that is really sad about Gary Coleman.
-
Larry, could the mystery word be "calling"?
That's a very good choice! I was thinking of using "fancy" and admitting in the recording notes and on the new copy that the word was conjectural, but I think your lyric choice is better. Thank you.
What happened to my cicada?
Vibes and prayers for Daniel - nephew of DR MBARNUM
A friend gave me some home made Miso. (He learned how to make it when he lived in Japan) Anyone have good recipes? He suggested as a marinade
-
Oh good grief! It's 90 degrees. No wonder I got so overheated when I was mowing the yard. I took a couple breaks and drank water, but still had to stop when I got overheated. I had to get it done, though, it was WAY too long. It looks much better even though it's not done. I'll finish early in the morning
Well, to be honest, this film has gotten terrible reviews from most major critics - on Rotten Tomatoes it is at an astonishing 9%, which is as low as it gets there. That, of course, doesn't mean the film won't be enjoyable to folks.
-
I decided rather than go to any of my usual haunts today, I'd make a batch o' tuna pasta salad, and that's exactly what I have done. It is chilling now. I'm listening to the third CD o' the day, and then when the tuna pasta salad is at my desired temperature, then I'll watch a motion picture. In the meantime, I'll probably do an errand to three and call to see if there are any packages and/or mail.
-
Mmmm. Tuna pasta salad sounds good.
It's 90 here now, too. I did my outside work earlier.
My outside work consisted of going to the Rio Salado to water the milkweed plants we planted earlier. They need some water now that summer is here. I forgot to take my binoculars.
-
Cillaliz, we also have "weed police." We haven't been cited again since the neighbor dumped that dirt in the alley behind our fence. I check daily, and when he dumped another load, we moved it right away.
-
Have you ever had the tuna pasta salad, Laura? Can't remember if you ever made it to one of our Christmas Eve Dos.
-
Yes, I came to a Christmas Do. I don't think I had the tuna pasta salad. I really enjoyed your spaghetti, though.
-
What do you put in the pasta salad?
-
Tuna, pasta (macaroni noodles), red onion, mayo. Simple, effortless, and very yummilicious.
-
Almost finished with CD 3, and then will move on to movie 1.
-
I think I'll make some.
-
Back from my errands. The temp here is only 80, but with the humidity it feels like mid-90s :P
May I order some tuna pasta salad - hold the onions?
-
I just heard that the husband of my friend Jeanne Lehman died of a heart attack last night. He was a good fellow.
-
Always sad news, DR ELMORE.
-
My sister and niece are about half way across New Mexico now
-
I could have tuna pasta....minus the pasta.
-
I started watching AVATAR on Wednesday night....but only watched about half an hour....I might watch some more of it.....sometime.
-
Cicada.
-
Sorry to hear about your friend, DR Elmore.
-
Very sorry to hear about your friend, Elmore.
Our family had some bad news yesterday. My nephew Daniel (my younger brother Dan's son) was diagnosed with lymphoma. He had been suffereing from extreme stomach pain and they found he had a blockage in his intestines, which the doctors removed last week. Test revealed cancer.
He is only 25 years old and has two young children. Just so sad, and he is such a good kid.
So, any spare good thoughts, prayers, or vibes would be most welcomed as he begins chemotherapy.
~~~Vibes for DR MBarnum's DN Daniel!!~~~

This is really terrible, but the first thing I thought of when I heard about Gary Coleman is that I feel really sorry for the composers and companies of Avenue Q.
-
Not so terrible, DR KERRY.
The day after Dorothy Kilgallin died, Barbara Feldon's husband called Mark Goodson and pitched his wife to take her place.
Mark told him it was a bit soon to consider a permanent replacement.
-
Wow - the things you knew but forgot....
Barbara Feldon won the top prize on The $64,000 Question....her category: Shakespeare.
I do remember the tiger rug tv commercial campaign for Top Brass Hair Dressing

RIP Gary Coleman
I had read an article about his brain hemorrhage, I clicked on a link for another article, then went back and the first article had already been updated to announce that he'd died...just within a few seconds. :-\

I just heard that the husband of my friend Jeanne Lehman died of a heart attack last night. He was a good fellow.
My friend Nona (who died about five years ago) was good friends with Jeanne Lehman and spoke of her fondly.

-
So sorry about your friend, DR Elmore.
-
Condolences, DR Elmore, on the loss of your friend. I heard Jeanne in concert with John McGlinn up in Albany years ago. They did the score for "Very Warm for May." I think Rebecca Luker was also part of the concert. Anyway, the performance of "All the Things You Are" will a full orchestra was even more spectacular than it is on the recording McGlinn made with many of the same performers.
-
I, too, wondered about "Avenue Q." I even said something at work about it, and they stared at me as if I had horns growing out of my head upside down (instead of the usual, right-side-up horns I am usually accused of sporting). I guess nobody knew the show, even though it toured through town a couple of years ago.
-
I'm really glad I took the afternoon off. I feel like I've already been off work for an entire day. Whew do I need a break to work on the house. I'm thinking about stripping wall paper and painting instead of doing outside work, at least until the cold front goes through on Saturday night and the temps drop. I should plant my garden if I'm going to do it. I'll just see how I feel tomorrow

Thanks John G. I was looking at that one. I tried to find soba noodles, but didn't see them at the store. I'll try the Asian store tomorrow. Is there a good substitute for soba noodles?

Finished movie 1.

One hour later - 0 posts. That's cause for DEEvorce where I come from.

DR JMK takes the cake! I will be acknowledge him in the notes to the new recording. He will be in good company, with excellent scholars and copyists.
I thought constipate was a worthy guess.

JMK, do you plan on sending out change of address notices?
We sent them out to magazines, etc. If you personally want it, just let me know.
PLEASE!

I don't think i've ever had a cold tuna pasta salad. I've had tuna casserole. But not a cold pasta with tuna.
-
I am sorry to read about your friend's husband, elmore.
-
Just to be clear, recipe-wise - one can of tuna (I use Bumble Bee in water). I chop about half a red onion, very thin, very small pieces - I think they call that dicing? I make 160z of macaroni noodles, drain in COLD water. Then I put in the tuna, which I mince as I do so it's not chunky. Then I dump in the onions, add generous salt and pepper, and then mix all that together. Then I put in two large tablespoons of mayo (ONLY Best Foods for me). I mix that all up, then refrigerate (I put it in the freezer for thirty minutes, just to chill it quickly, then move it the the regular part of the refrigerator). There it sits for at least one hour beyond the thirty minutes, or until you actually want to serve it. When you're ready to serve, add one more LARGE tablespoon of mayo and mix that in with everything. And voila - tuna pasta salad. Salt further to taste.

G'night!

Nor would I, however there are plenty of other alcoholic beverages I enjoy while Bruce enjoys none at all. :)

My sister lands in Hawaii in less than one hour.
-
Rock Hudson is playing John Wesley Hardin - the outlaw - on one of the cable services.....it looks like a very nice Technicolor print....
Juli(e)a Adams and her pointy nose and other pointy parts will show up in this movie in a few minutes.
-
Safe landing!!
-
Just seven weeks ago this very night, MR BK and DR CP were in Indiana enjoying THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X with EVIL KURT and myself.
-
Safe landing!!
So far so good.
I just finished watching AMELIA on DVD and I must say I was quite taken with Hillary Swank's impersonation....I liked the movie very much.
Oh....wait....there's the phone.....
-
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY WISHES
-
Well this is the day for bad news, I guess.
Jesse - the adopted daughter of my cousin Marcie - was driving to Florida with her husband and their five month old baby...and her in laws. They were involved in a car crash earlier today.
The in-laws are both in critical condition.....Jesse is fair....her husband has some broken bones.....my aunt just called to say that there is no hope for baby....and they are taking him off the life support machine.
Life is fragile.
-
The kittens have had their child therapy for the day.
-
DR JRand, words can't express how sorry I am to hear your news.
-
Laura, did therapy involve the neighbor girls? :)
-
Yes.
-
By the way, Jeanne and her kittens do not purr.
-
DR JRand - I am so sorry about the tragic news from your family.
-
Watching movie number 3, but am taking a brief break.

DR JRand59, I am so sorry to hear this.
Thank you for your condolences. Jeanne is a dear lady and, when I first got to New York, one of the finest soprano ingenues around. I first worked with her on a production of Victor Herbert's EILEEN, which is where John McGlinn met her and began using her in his concerts. Thirty years later, she's no longer an ingenue, but she has played some very comic parts, like Eve Arden's role of the mother in VERY WARM FOR MAY, the SOUND OF MUSIC's Mother Abbess, and she still has a beautiful voice. Her husband, Larry French, has been married to her longer than I've known her, and he was a very quiet, gentle man everyone liked. They've been teaching musical theatre classes in Kores, so they are in and out of the country. We're recording Jeanne's numbers for this new Herbert recording in Jauary because they expected to be in Korea in September. I haven't spoken to her, but I hope she is all right.

I just watched a peculiar performance of Purcell's DIDO AND AENEAS from the Opera comique, conducted by William Christie. Some of it was wonderful, like the leads, and some of it was awful, like the schoolgirls in 20th Century uniforms who kept burstign onstage for some of the dances and exited screaming. sometiems they entered screaming. The Dido was a Scandinavian singer, Malena Ernman, who was wonderful, and the Aeneas was the handsome Christopher Maltman. Why Mr Christie, who's a major authority on baroque opera, let this screaming and cavorting go on is beyond me.
I found these funny photos of Mr Maltman, a baritone who would fit DR MBarnum's criteria for a performer, since he's often stripped in productions, and Miss Ernman, who seems to have a huge crossover European audience. They're both excellent actors.
-
Thanks John G. I was looking at that one. I tried to find soba noodles, but didn't see them at the store. I'll try the Asian store tomorrow. Is there a good substitute for soba noodles?
You can use whole wheat noodles of any type, but the flavor will be slightly different. Not bad. Just different.
I remember reviewing a Japanese restaurant once -- now closed, thank goodness -- that served up spaghetti and called them soba noodles. I called them on it, and the waitress, who didn't know any different, said, "Oh, that's what we always serve."
Just bear in mind there might be a difference in cooking times between the noodle you use and soba noodles and adjust accordingly.
-
DR JRand, that is horrifying news. More prayers, best wishes and healing vibes for all concerned. And my sincerest condolences.
-
I'm so sorry, JRand. I didn't see your post above mine. It must have posted while I was writing. I didn't see it until someone else quoted it.
I am so sorry to hear this sad news. My prayers go to the families.

Just back from discovering a great little home cooking restaurant. Had country-style pork ribs with cabbage and collard greens plus macaroni and cheese and a cup of spicy, rich gumbo on the side. The hostess told my friend Judy she could make her own ombo plate of the great meatloaf and a smothered pork chop with coleslaw and yams. Sweet potato pie with plenty of nutmeg and allspice, homemade peanut brittle and banana=nut bread for dessert. We were happy indeed.
The chef came out and I asked him if he were from Louisiana because the gumbo was so good. Turns out he is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who attended classes with Cat Cora when she was there. This is just the food he loves and he does it very well.

OMG, Larry, what terrible news. We knew Larry French. Anthony worked with him at a now defunct theatre (Mill Mountain) in Roanoke, VA in 2005. They did Forum together. We met Jeanne a couple of times and she would volunteer for the annual Christmas Gift Bag project.

Vibes and prayers to both MBarnum's family and JRand.
-
It's still today so Happy Birthday to Mr. Brockman!
-
Well this is the day for bad news, I guess.
That's terrible, JRand! I'm so sorry to hear about this. :'(
-
Sad news, Jrand.
-
Thanks, everyone. The thoughts are much appreciated.

I found these funny photos of Mr Maltman, a baritone who would fit DR MBarnum's criteria for a performer, since he's often stripped in productions, and Miss Ernman, who seems to have a huge crossover
Her crossover doesn't look any larger than anyone else's.

Is anyone else disturbed by the placement of the type?

Then again, it kind of reminds me of those hilarious Joan Miro paintings in which bodily noises are shown by squiggly lines shooting out the mouth or backside.
And on that note, good night, all.

I just came across this article on Broadwayworld.com: Canton Comic Opera Co Presents THE WIZARD OF OZ 7/10 (http://columbus.broadwayworld.com/article/Canton_Comic_Opera_Co_Presents_THE_WIZARD_OF_OZ_710_20100528). Take a look at the last sentence of this particular paragraph:
A special free concert of "Uncharted Oz: Music from THE WIZARD OF OZ 1902-1909" will be presented on Friday, July 9 at 8:00 pm at the Cable Recital Hall of the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 Market Avenue North, Canton, Ohio 44702. The concert will feature a lecture by Mr. Larry Moore, preeminent New York historian of American musical Theatre Of the 1900s.
"Preeminent"...nice! ;D

Condolences, JR.
-
JRand, so so sorry to hear this. You have my condolences
-
What a day. I did start at the office, I had to correct something I filed yesterday which meant rewriting it, but it wasn't a big deal. Then we closed early and I came home and got more overheated mowing than I realized. I thought I was fine after I cooled down, but have had a headache and felt sick to my stomach for awhile.
-
You have my sympathies, DR JRand.

I'm fine now. Since it's a 3 day weekend, I wanted to do a major house project. I couldn't decide which one - there are so many - until I went to sit out on the front porch and looked at the entry way. I have only recently started using the front entry a lot and it had this really country style wall paper. For a country style, it was ok looking, but I don't have a country style house. So, I decided to see if if would come of easily and it did. So I've been ripping wallpaper off the wall this evening. I'll still have to clean off the paste and paint. I haven't thought about a color yet, so I may not finish the project this weekend, but it's nice to get started on a project again
-
Seems I'll do anything to avoid cleaning the house

Don't always believe the press!
I just watched Catherine Howard die, along with Lady Rochford, Thomas Culpeper and Francis Dereham, on THE TUDORS. Very good episode, although the torture, removal of fingernails, and drawing and quartering of Mr Dereham was a hard thing to watch. Culpepper was a creep and deserved it. I also liked the fact that Queen Catherine on the block told the crowd, "I die a queen. I would rather die the wife of Thomas Culpepper." No remorse for the adultery. Good for her.

Cillaliz, you might try drinking some Gatorade when you are working outside. It helps keep you from getting dehydrated. If you could find some tonight it would help the headache.
-
Jack - I am deeply sorry to hear your tragic news. Please know that your family is in my prayers.
-
I tend to agree with Mae-Ling -

Thanks Laura. I used to drink that in Az. It was just plain stupid for me to mow the yard when it was over 90 degrees outside. I drank lots and lots of water and had an Aleve. My headache is much better now. I go through this at least once a year with mowing the yard.
-
I definitely want to make some tuna pasta salad. It sounds yummy
-
Oh my, paint is on sale at Home Depot this weekend. I think I'll go get some samples in the morning. Tomorrow is going to be too hot to work outside, I may as well paint the entry way
