Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the heartbreak and the psoriasis, and now it is time for you to post until they cows come home - they've currently got the heartbreak of psoriasis and no one cares.

BK,

A word of advice:

Whatever you do re: the screwy helper, DO NOT go to her house.

If she is as unstable as you think she is, she might have you arrested for stalking.

BK,

Your problem with the helper reminds me of something that happened to me 10-15 years ago.

I was stopped at a traffic light when this blond "actress-type" rear-ended me.

There was no place to pull over and exchange information, so we drove a block until we found a spot.  She was a real ditz.  As we were exchanging information, a cop car stopped, and she suddenly pointed to me and yelled out, "Arrest him! He tried to escape the scene."

Nobody got a ticket, but the police did take a report and, as it turned out, there was some problem with her driving record.  Don't recall all the details, but she kept telling her insurance company to deny my claim.  Finally, the State set me a subpoena to appear at a hearing that would determine the fate of HER driver's license.  SHE had pushed for the hearing...and SHE NEVER SHOWED UP.

Her insurance company paid my claim, and I have no idea what happened to her.

Maybe she became Lindsay Lohan?

Los Angeles is a crazy town, but then...so is Austin.

Good morning, all!

BK, I love you but you are making me feel like Cassandra in front of a huge wooden horse or I'm having a deja vu of last September's orchestra reading of LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40; I can only croak out the warnings and see if anyone listens. You posted today that she's apparently exhibited such behavior before? This is why you get references and check up on a potential employee.

This lady is not a flake: SHE'S CRAZY! She's either playing mindgames with you or one of her personalities is being nicer than the others. Do not go near her. Call the police and let them retrieve your invoices. Then, go down to small claims court and sue her for the maximum, which I believe is $5,000.  Use that to pay your new helper. I hope you've run a complete profile on him.

Speaking of crazies, there was a rather rude posting on the Cast List today about members posting more than once a day. Given this member has only posted twice in two months, once about this and once about another member doing something she considered stupid, I think she's around to cause trouble and I'm wondering if it's a former member of HHW who seems to spend a life stirring up the pot.

So, enough grousing. Today, I have a session at Toyland, a lot of photocopying, and other usual angst.

Btw, re: my being the one to mention that the President would be speaking last night.

Well most of the tv we watch her is on US networks. And it was in my tv's guide. So i thought maybe not everybody checks their updated guide. So i thought i'd mention it.

I know i had Hell's Kitchen scheduled to record from 8-10pm. And then my PVR just switched it to 8:15-10:15pm and knocked off my 10pm show. Although i noticed this earlier so i was able to fix it.

I saw a production in London at the Savoy theatre starring Penelope Keith as Madame Arcati.  The production was disappointing.  Oddly enough, I have always enjoyed Ms. Keith whenever I see her on the telly, but I've now seen her twice onstage, both in Noel coward pieces, both disappointing (the second, was an adaptation of his story STAR QUALITY...which did not work at all and she was miscast in the lead).

Personally, I don't think the play works as well as some of Coward's others...Private Lives, Present Laughter, Hay Fever, Fallen Angels, The Vortex...

I've always liked the play, and I liked very much the last revival. I thought the cast, particularly Ebersole, was very good, but the play's all about her so I'm sure she was happy. Lansbury was a good choice for Mme Arcati, but I think the role came too late in her career. I can't even imagine Penelope Keith in the part; she's not zany enough.

I'm cleaning out my inbox and found this funny email from a singer.  I may have posted it here before:

Before  a gig,  the bandleader calls the girl  singer over to him and  tells  her, "Tonight, when we do 'Night and Day,' I want you to sing  the  second verse first, and then break into the bridge one bar earlier than usual. Transpose the bridge up a minor third, but then back  down  again for the last three bars of it. Then add a 5/4 bar going  back into the FIRST chorus, singing on only off-beats. During the  sax solo, go to the bridge a bar-and-a-HALF too early, interrupting  the solo, finish the first verse, go to the coda a bar late, and  then keep  singing for a full 3 beats after the band has  ended."
Her eyes widen and she says, "That's  way  too hard, I can't do all that."

He says, "Why not?  You did it last night!!"

After reading the book I"m curious what you thought of the ending of the movie.  I remember seeing the movie shortly after i read the book. And in the book there is a key thing that Lisbeth sees that makes her want to leave (seeing mikael and erika together).  But in the movie they didn't do this at all.  I remember thinking after watching that movie that this was so weird. Because it was a key motivation for the beginning of the next book.

I just got off the phone with the helper's mother.  Happily, the mother really likes me (I took the helper, her mother, and her sister to a lovely Genghis Cohen dinner) and she also knows how well I've treated her daughter.  I took the mother through the story step by step and she was appalled and apologetic on behalf of her daughter.  I told her that I'd asked for the invoices to be on my doorstep by noon today or at my mail place.  The mother then informed me that her daughter is nannying in Santa Barbara for the next two days, so I think we know the invoices won't be here or at the mail place.  The mother assured me she would call her daughter right now and straighten this out - she, too, feels she may have lost the invoices.  So, one way or another, perhaps I'll finally find out the story today.  The mother said she'd call me back after she speaks to her daughter.

My question for ASK BK Day.....have you ever seen a stage production of Noel Coward's BLITHE SPIRIT?

Who was in it and what did you think of it?

The first time I saw it was at the Seattle Rep and Madame Arcadi was played by Margaret Hamilton.

I shop at Petco here. The people who work there are definitely pet lovers and I never see any sick animals or dirty cages.  They have 3 cats from the humane society all the time.  Our humane society isn't a no kill shelter. This is for DR Cillaliz.  I believe you saw the movie THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO, right?

And you said you just finished the book.  (People who have not read the book and watched the movie might not want to read this) although i believe DR Jane knows this already, it's re: the ending of the book vs the ending of the movie (but does not spoil the main case).

I thought making money was the motivation for the beginning of the next book.

From the road food site

At Bob’s Drive-Inn, they don’t even offer a hamburger. If you want beef, you get loosemeats. Bob’s loosemeats are definitive. Browned, strained of fat, then pressure-cooked with sauce and spice, then drained again, this meat is moist, full-flavored and deeply satisfying. Each sandwich is made on a good-quality roll that Myles Kass secures from Le Mars’ own Vander Meer Bakery.

I've had several complaints in the last few days about my telephonic device sounding like I was underwater, like Finding Nemo.  After another complaint today, I determined it was time to replace said telephonic devices (I've had them for close to five years now) - there's new technology anyway, 6.0 instead of 5.8, and no more little antenna things sticking out of the phone.  I bought a Uniden set (the only one they had without an answering machine), one base and two handsets.  I did a test call and everything sounded good to the recipient of the call.  So, the phones are charging.  The guy actually sold me the base unit and an extra handset.  But when I opened the box with the base unit, it came with two handsets, which is all I need, so back goes the other one and I get a credit of thirty bucks.

DR Cillaliz the spoiler is more if you haven't read the book. As the spoiler i listed was what happened in the book. But i guess since it doesn't happen in the movie, it is sort of a movie spoiler too!

Jane, out here, the Petsmarts and Petcos open their stores to shelters. That's for dogs and cats. Birds, rodents, and reptiles, I don't know.

I foster for the county pound. Mine will go to a Petco if they don't get adopted from the mobile adoption bus.

DR Jane and Cillaliz, i wonder when the 3rd movie comes out on dvd. I think it is playing here now in French. But only at some theatres that are really far away. I think i will request it from the library. Just not sure when it will be released.

With my squirmy cockatoo J.B. running around my chest and shoulders as I type this, I know I shouldn't watch that video.

Be thankffully that's all he does.  Mine used to join me for dinner  - loved picking the cheese bits out of salad dressing.  And the dear "needy" bird followed me everywhere - including the shower!!!  He would hop from shoulder-to-sholder as I washed down.

I have seen the stores do that & think it is wonderful.  Usually the pets don't live there & it is a promotion during the day from the rescue groups or shelters.  I will look into the local PetSmart situation if we go there again.  Mostly we shop at other stores around here or go online.

He's not allowed in the shower, but, yes, he loves sampling the tasty bits from dinner. I bet he'd even like a bit of the loosemeat. Well, not the variety DR Elmore is promoting.

Ginny, you could have taught that class.

Not quite, DR Laura, but I was hoping for more of "how to live with DVT" and less how to prevent it in the first place.  What I could have done better than the RN who was teaching it was read the script and pronounce all the words correctly.

Speaking of pronunciation, did anyone think Catherine Zeta-Jones sang, "Send in the cRowns," at one point during her number on the Tonys?

I haven't had the stomach to watch Ms. Zeta-Jones on YouTube yet (suffering from a bit of food poisoning and don't need to exacerbate the situation). Caught "Memphis," which was, well, generic. (How much of that show is available online?) And I didn't care for "The best of Times" from "La Cage" either.

Mom and Dad went to the amusement park where he got a tavern sandwich (a loosemeat sandwich) and a nutty bar.  Two of his favorite things.  My brother and his family were around all day putting the sailboat in the lake and tonight they are going out for dinner.  He's having a lovely day.  I'm going up on Father's Day

What is a loosemeat sandwich?

I doubt it's what you're hoping it is!

I believe that "Get your loosemeat here" is the sign on your apartment door, not mine!

Only when DR MBarnum visits!

I just watched my first Planet Green tv series, the first episode of THE FABULOUS BEEKMAN BOYS, sort of a gay version of THE EGG AND I. It's about writer/adman/former drag queen Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his partner Brent, a former VP for Martha Stewart, owning the Beekman mansion and farm in upstate New York and trying to make a go of it. I laughed, and I hope they do well with it. the series and the farm.

I believe yesterday's fire north of town is now contained. However, a fire that began in northern Arizona this morning is now up to 1000 acres.

The fire in southeastern Arizona is 2700 acres and 25% contained. Containment is not expected until the monsoon arrives -- next month.

I shop at Petco here. The people who work there are definitely pet lovers and I never see any sick animals or dirty cages.  They have 3 cats from the humane society all the time.  Our humane society isn't a no kill shelter. Petco is.  They will keep the cats until they are adopted. Sometimes it's a day sometimes weeks, but the cats all find homes.

I shop at at a Petco in L.A. I like.  We don't have one here.

I only shop at Petsmart.  I don't care for Petco.  In my opinion, they are kind of the 7-11 of pet stores.  I have never seen a sick animal or a dirty cage at Petsmart.

I think that it just depends on your local area.  I was in Petco tonight. The animals looked clean and healthy and the cages were clean

Here on the left coast, it was not tape delayed, so it didn't interfere with the prime time shows. :)

Happiest of birthdays to DR George's mother and to DR Cillaliz's father!

Thanks, Ginny!  Tonight, the family came over to my place and we had various foodstuffs.  I bought a couple of pizzas from Costco, my sister and niece had calzones from a local place called Vic's Pizzeria and my sister's boyfriend got a sub sandwich from Subway.  My sister also brought over a vegan peach cobbler and it was wonderful!  I forgot to take a picture of the glazed cement bench that we got for mom's birthday, but she loved it. :D

JMK, you have posted this before...but it's still very funny!

Speaking of invoices...for the first time at work, we are finally able to pay invoices on the new computer system and tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day to do that for this month.  I had to leave early yesterday and today, so I couldn't work as long as I should have but I can stay for the duration tomorrow.  This also means that I need to get to sleep early tonight, so I'm going to go to bed now.

Good night, all guests.
