Well, you've read the notes, the notes were advanced and smelled like a bean burrito, and now it is time for you to post until the advanced cows come home.

DR BK

It's a shame that the older shows even those from the 60's need to be changed. A show as good as PP was why change it? Why interpolate two songs for the star of the show to give them more to do. At least the director didn't change Sheldrake to JJ Biggley and the company to World Wide Wicket. Also from to make these changes just because a show that has a tenth of  the amount viewers of a low rated network show is "popular" is no reason to do it. I have never seen that show so I won't see the connection. The musical may have based on a early 60's movie, the show is a product of the late 60's.

The original cast albums, NYC & London cast album and various video clips of the original show available will be show are all that I need.

Here is Turkey Lurkey Time with the original Broadway Cast

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EktVzsYjMJk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EktVzsYjMJk)

and clips from the Broadway revival with choreography that can't match Bennett's originality. This choreography takes the title literally, uses moves that are so 2000's and a setting that so grandiose that you forget it is supposed to be a simply office party.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAqsdWOhJ_Y (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAqsdWOhJ_Y)

and this scene from the film Camp is far more exciting than the revival. At least it gets into the spirit of the original production and more interesting because they are teenagers doing it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN692nmEQiw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN692nmEQiw)

and of course

From the Bacharach To The Future BC/EFA benefit - Choreography by Michael Bennett, recreated by Adam Cates. Show was directed by Bruce Kimmel and conducted by Alex Rybeck.

No grandoise set and limited stage space is far better than the revival

Good morning, all! I have to go in and deal with some questions on the McGlinnventory this morning. Afterthat I shall walk over to Toyland for a brief sojourn before heading back uptown.

I believe at some point in the afternoon Mr Ron Raines will show up to return some CDs he's downloaded into his iTunes and take a few more. I will spend the afternoon rethinking "My Heart Is So Full Of you" for a string quintet. For the 1993 recording, we only had one cello, one viola and one violin, so I made the number a chamber quintet of Piano, violin, viola, cello and bass. I'm going to revise the parts, add a 2nd Violin and harp so that it can be played by a full string section. The original parts have been used by Liz in concert since 1993, and after 17 years, I've found rewritten notes, dictated (I suspect) by conductors who think they know more than I about what I wanted, a few of my own errors, and, since the Indianapolis Symphony is putting everything into Finale, this is the time to correct an orchestral arrangement of the number.

And that's my day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Safe travel vibes to DR cillaliz! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm still trying to figure out the motivation for "A House is not a Home" being sung in this revival.  The lyrics make no sense whatsoever for the character of Fran.  Sheldrake's "Wanting Things" makes more sense for Fran, as we really don't need to have Sheldrake being a likeable character, which is what his song tries to make him. . .
And tempo seems so S L O W!!!!
How do these directors get these jobs?  Why do people keep "rethinking" hits?  Why not rethink a show that didn't work the first time around?  Those are the shows to 'improve"!
Well my friend Vickie's mother passed away early Monday morning.  She had been in hospice for almost a year. A vibrant and talented woman named Adeline Knoy......the "K" is pronounced.....Ka-Noy.
She was a teacher at Cloverdale Elementary School for decades - the learning center there is named for her.
She was a member of the board of directors at PCPH for many years - played Bloody Mary twice, played Dolly Levi, AND Mame Dennis.  I directed her as Rosemary in a production of PICNIC and we spent many hours in the ensembles of several shows.
Tomorrow is her service, my guess is, once again, for one last time, she will fill the house.  :'(
My Lord what a weird night.  I got in bed at twelve-thirty.  I fell asleep at two, woke up at three-thirty, fell asleep at four.  At 8:56 the alarm went off and I don't mean the radio/alarm I mean the house alarm.  That is a first (and I hope last).  I was so tired and so disoriented I didn't know what was happening.  I finally realized where the sound was coming from (the alarm center in the kitchen).  Once there and once my eyes focused, the alarm control panel read PH1.  I had no idea what that meant and quickly checked all the doors and windows all of which were fine.  I found my instruction sheet, entered my code plus "enter" and it stopped.  Then I called the security company and asked what that was about.  Apparently from 8:56 to 8:57 there was an "interruption" in the phone line, i.e. the phone line went down for less than a minute - that causes the alarm to go and is what "PH" means.  I asked her what would have happened if the line hadn't come right back up - she said the alarm would have just kept ringing.  That's not good, but if it should ever happen again I can call and have them power down the system.
When you tell a story
Amorous or gory
You can tell it best if you absquatulate
Suppose the mighty Sinbad
Meets a Djinn who's been bad
They can guess the rest if you absquatulate
A tongue is a tongue
And a lung is a lung
In a tale you can shout or sing
Without the gesture? Nothing!
Should Scheherazade
Undulate her body
That can be expressed if you gest...
Can be assessed if you gest...
She'll be undressed if you absquatulate
Well my friend Vickie's mother passed away early Monday morning.  She had been in hospice for almost a year. A vibrant and talented woman named Adeline Knoy......the "K" is pronounced.....Ka-Noy.
She was a teacher at Cloverdale Elementary School for decades - the learning center there is named for her.
She was a member of the board of directors at PCPH for many years - played Bloody Mary twice, played Dolly Levi, AND Mame Dennis.  I directed her as Rosemary in a production of PICNIC and we spent many hours in the ensembles of several shows.
Tomorrow is her service, my guess is, once again, for one last time, she will fill the house.  :'(
JRand, my condolences to you and to Vicki and her family.
Our next show release is from the early 1960s and if anyone was paying attention to the notes in the last few weeks you'd basically know what it was - or who the songwriter was.
BK, I read all of your notes...I just don't keep track of them. ::)
My Lord what a weird night.  I got in bed at twelve-thirty.  I fell asleep at two, woke up at three-thirty, fell asleep at four.  At 8:56 the alarm went off and I don't mean the radio/alarm I mean the house alarm.  That is a first (and I hope last).  I was so tired and so disoriented I didn't know what was happening.  I finally realized where the sound was coming from (the alarm center in the kitchen).  Once there and once my eyes focused, the alarm control panel read PH1.  I had no idea what that meant and quickly checked all the doors and windows all of which were fine.  I found my instruction sheet, entered my code plus "enter" and it stopped.  Then I called the security company and asked what that was about.  Apparently from 8:56 to 8:57 there was an "interruption" in the phone line, i.e. the phone line went down for less than a minute - that causes the alarm to go and is what "PH" means.  I asked her what would have happened if the line hadn't come right back up - she said the alarm would have just kept ringing.  That's not good, but if it should ever happen again I can call and have them power down the system.
But what happens if you're not home. Does it just ring and ring and disrupt the whole street?
Apparently so - although this particular alarm (for a phone problem) can't really be heard outside the house.
ASK BK
I was watching a show from the 60's and at the end there was a crest for "Television Code". What was it and is it still in use today? (The 60's only 3 networks & no cable channels so it might be hard to have a code today)
I don't think there's any official television code today - just whatever the FCC mandates.
Watched two Adam 12 episodes, the second of which was shot all around here.  One great shot at Ventura and Colfax at a gas station that's now a strip mall with a Subway and Falafel place, and best of all the reverse shot of the Volvo/Fiat dealer and TV repair place - where now sits the Studio Cafe.  Also, several neat shots of Sherman Oaks - Moorpark right near Beverly Glen (I used to live three blocks from there), and a great shot at Ventura and Matilija.
I have some interesting projects to ponder as I wander on my jog.  A whole slew of limited edition CD titles that sold out very quickly on another label are all now available to me - the big question would be - are there enough sales over what's already sold?  That is a big question.  One title is one of my all-time favorite film scores to one of my all-time favorite films - in fact, I tried to get it, but this other label had already locked it up ages ago.  They put it out a few months ago and it sold out in less than a week at 1000 units.  So, for example, if I were to do it, I would hold back until after the first of the year, so the market could refresh itself.  Some of the other titles I'm interested in sold out several years ago and command high prices - those are all worth considering.  If I can find five or six, that would basically carry me through the end of the year with releases, which is a good thing.  But I can't do them if my online dealers don't think there's enough sales, so I'm waiting to talk to the biggest of those dealers - decisions will depend on his reaction to various titles.
Once I became an adult, and had developed my speaking voice, she always wished that I could get together with him for some possible career advice.  It never came to pass.
Here is Turkey Lurkey Time with the original Broadway Cast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EktVzsYjMJk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EktVzsYjMJk)
and clips from the Broadway revival with choreography that can't match Bennett's originality. This choreography takes the title literally, uses moves that are so 2000's and a setting that so grandiose that you forget it is supposed to be a simply office party.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAqsdWOhJ_Y (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAqsdWOhJ_Y)
and this scene from the film Camp is far more exciting than the revival. At least it gets into the spirit of the original production and more interesting because they are teenagers doing it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN692nmEQiw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN692nmEQiw)
and of course
From the Bacharach To The Future BC/EFA benefit - Choreography by Michael Bennett, recreated by Adam Cates. Show was directed by Bruce Kimmel and conducted by Alex Rybeck.
No grandoise set and limited stage space is far better than the revival
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aukNN8J7EIY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aukNN8J7EIY)
I love the original staging of this song and can't understand what the minds behind the revival weren't thinking! They've made the singers bimbos and by doing so, they give credence to the office men's belief that women are just something to play with. What would it matter if they had an affair with an airhead who didn't know better? It's incredibly misogenistic and the viewpoint drains the song of any charm. Plus, the dancing is dreadful. It went from being a showstopper to something staged in front of a curtain while the set is changed.
Well, I need to be heading home.  It's late and I've got some TV watching to do.
Until later!
does anyone here own a GPS ?  what kind and do you like it?
would you recommend it?
I wish I had had one for when I was driving all over the city and region. But now that I just go to work and home, it doesn't seem to be a necessity for me any more. Which is probably why I'll end up with one in the a couple of months or so.
Vixdad was talking about getting one for me for my birthday  - I never saw the use for one - but on MOnday I had to go to a closing in Westchester county and one of my co-workers insisted I use her  GPS -  well it was so nice having this lady telling me where to turn - and I got there and back very easily --
the only thing I didn't like was that it did noyt speak the street names  just said turn in 1/4 mile mile  turn  right now .. etc -
   Iunderstand that soome of them  willsay turn right on Maple  Avenue....
and soem allow you to choose the voice that will talk to you
On Friday the Vixfamily will embark on a little 4 day trip to the great state of Pennsylvania  to visit the Sweetest Place ob Earth....
I thought perhaps since Radio Shack is having a GPS sale we should stop in there on Friday morning and pick one up
Get one without an attitude, Vixmom. I was in a car with one and the GPS was wrong, but it kept harping that we were going the wrong way until we turned it off and drove exactly to where we wanted to be.
So, BK, is it something by Schmidt and Jones? "Celebration," maybe?
It would be great to get a CD of their score for "Philemon." I saw a college production of it about 9 years ago and loved several of the songs.
We have a Garmin, Vixmom. We like it. I used it today to get to Ajo, as a matter of fact.
Today I went to Ajo, Arizona.
And that's about all I have to say about that.
I really want to know how "Ajo" is pronounced.
Is it like..."A-hoe"?
As in, "Stop being an Ajo, please!"?
Shayne, I don't know what the LAPD does these days.  But here's the fun fact of the evening - remember I said that one episode today was in a strip mall that I was sure was on Moorpark.  Since the address was clearly visible on one of the storefronts, I drove to that address - and that address on Moorpark is not a strip mall.  So, I put on my thinking cap and knew it couldn't be Riverside because there are no strip malls near that address - which led me to Magnolia and - that very strip mall, which is not only exactly the same now, but also houses - wait for it - the Kansas City Barbecue!  I couldn't believe it.  That side of the street is the same.  Across the street no longer exists - it's all one of those huge supermarket and fast food mini-malls and shops.
I just finished disc two's seven episodes - the final one guest-starred - Leslie Parrish.
I don't think there's any official television code today - just whatever the FCC mandates.
Have you read the book DANGEROUSLY FUNNY?  It's about the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and it is very detailed.    Quite an entertaining and educational read.
Then my pal Sam Bobrick must be in that book, since he was one of the writers on the show.
