Yes. The alarm company called to tell me there's a "supervisory alarm," which usually means a dead battery or a power outage. They felt it necessary to tell me this at 2 a.m.

Good morning, all! I have to be at the NYU Dental Clinic by 8:30, so I'm moving rather quickly this morning to be out of here in about 45 minutes.

BK, Vinny mixed everyone of those rcordings in LA, and I know he had piano-conductors to work from; I spent too much time in photocopying scores at US Copy at 83rd and Amsterdam. There may be nothing on LOST IN BOSTON 1 & 2 because Jim Stenborg digitized thoses scores, but the PC's to "Unsung Musicals" and a lot of others were written in my hand and photocopied for Vinny. Perhaps the same situation that lost the brass parts to "Disneyland" lost the PCs? My scores for all those recordngs are now at the Library of Congress, so I can't even give myself copies.

After the Dental Clinic, the post office to mail all the chorus music for the recordings and then work on Mr Herbert here at the apartment. I have to call MTI with a question on THE MOST HAPPY FELLA; I open the new score and, after two edits, find wrong notes.

Happy New Year to all my Jewish friends!

I'm not Bruce but I know the answer.

It's the Judith Ivey production that started at Long Wharf in Connecticut then played Off-Broadway as part of Roundabout's season and has now moved to Los Angeles to play at the Mark Taper Forum.

BK, in all the time I've known, I've never seen you wearing glasses.  I remember PIGEONS FROM HELL vividly.  It was only years later that I learned it was based on a short story by Robert E. Howard, the author and creator of Conan the Barbarian and one of the authors I collect.  I have the short story in my collection.

Quote
Good Evening!

Greetings from Virginia!

...Where I just found out that my father had surgery... Two weeks ago... Apparently, I had even called while they were on the way to the hospital... But, again, I just found out a few minutes ago. Huh

However, it was a somewhat routine procedure, and my dad seems to be recuperating quickly

I'm glad all is well.  Did you get mad this time?  I don't know why parents think it is best to protect their children, even adult children. :)

Bruce, you should be aware that not everyone can wear progressive lenses. I wear them now for distance and am fine with them, but I couldn't adjust to the first pair at all. My optician felt it was because there wasn't enough difference between the distance Rx and the reading Rx. Now there's more difference between the two, but I still need reading glasses when I'm doing close work. Most opticians will exchange the progressive for another non-progressive, if need be. I hope yours are fine and this isn't necessary.

Tech stress!  Tech stress!  Actually, NO tech stress--the power went out at around 5 last night and JUST came back on (it's been going on and off intermittently since the middle of the night, never staying on for very long).  I had SO much work to get done on the internets last night and of course that has all fallen by the wayside.  Also, this new house has an alarm system and it went completely haywire earlier this morning.  I was running around trying to get it to stop emitting a horrible screeching sound (NOT the alarm sound--it sounded like a fax tone in minor seconds).  Oy, oy, oy.

Back from cardiac rehab and a couple of shopping stops.  At Kroger, I bought tilapia and potatoes to bake for our dinner - soft foods for DS Rob who, at the ripe old age of 25, today had his first dental filling.  He'd been very proud of his perfect teeth and was kind of bummed about this turn of events.

I do better with the distance & the in-between.  It is the reading portion that gives me the biggest problems.  I basically removed it.  They have to leave a little in there.  Mostly I take my glasses off and read close to my face.  For walking, hiking & driving I wear my distance glasses.

I bet.  I hope he hasn't begun a new trend.

I always ask the technicians to put the reading portion as high as possible in my progressive lenses and they're fine for casual reading - newspapers, crossword puzzles, hymnal & prayerbook.  However, for sustained reading I have separate reading glasses and for counted cross-stitch I look below my glasses all together.

So does he, DR JRand!  This was a small "defect" that the dentist thinks developed when Rob had his braces.  They've been watching it and decided that filling it now would be the prudent thing to do.

It may take a while to get used to moving your head, not your eyes, to "lock in  focus" items in mid range - and loooking down when descending stairs is really tricky (the step is not in the focal range when looking down).

der Brucer

Note: if there is a large range between your near and far vision, you may want to consider a set of fixed-focus mid range glasses for computer use.

BK,

Since I don't read the Los Angeles papers any longer:

Who are the cast members for THE GLASS MENAGERIE at the Mark Taper?

I'm not Bruce but I know the answer.

It's the Judith Ivey production that started at Long Wharf in Connecticut then played Off-Broadway as part of Roundabout's season and has now moved to Los Angeles to play at the Mark Taper Forum.

Glass Menagerie (http://www.centertheatregroup.org/tickets/productiondetail.aspx?id=11440)

Ben McKenzie as the Gentleman Caller?  Oh well, how bad could he be in that role?

Tech stress!  Tech stress!  Actually, NO tech stress--the power went out at around 5 last night and JUST came back on (it's been going on and off intermittently since the middle of the night, never staying on for very long).  I had SO much work to get done on the internets last night and of course that has all fallen by the wayside.  Also, this new house has an alarm system and it went completely haywire earlier this morning.  I was running around trying to get it to stop emitting a horrible screeching sound (NOT the alarm sound--it sounded like a fax tone in minor seconds).  Oy, oy, oy.

Have you seen the pig, yet, who yells at you to "GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!"

We have been extremely concerned the last few days and it appeared the center was bulging some.  The vet was very pleased that the area has reduced in size and is definitely improving.  When we looked doubtful it is smaller she offered to get the photos she took last week ;)

The lump in the center worrying us is just scar tissue healing.

She did get responses on the surgical vet board, basically saying to do what we were doing and to use the ointment she gave us at the last visit.  We will continue with it and hope by next week it will be all healed.

Please keep those vibes coming!!!  Until it heals he is still at risk for an infection and he is off the antibiotics.

I have the same problem with our glass backsplash.  Is there a website with a photo so we can see the colors better?

I see white, various shades of browns, red, and is that dark blue or black?  Did you put on each little piece individually or did it come in strips?

It looks nice.  I bet once you are done & have everything back on the counter it will look great.

OK JANE-

How is Wonder Dog Sherlock Doing?

I gathered that you took him to The Dog Doctor Today?

Hope All Is Well...

And A Very Special Happy New Year To You....and Keith...and family and

Sherlock,of course.

Thank you for asking.

Yes we did.  You are sweet to remember.

Thank you.

I Will Say A Special Prayer For His Speedy Recovery

Thank you very much. :)

Keel seems to be intentionally parodying himself in that, of course.  Like Merman in AIRPLANE, only on a smaller scale.

Howard Keel was a great entertainer.

I know he was a publicity client of mine for ten years and I am prejudiced, but:

I was a fan of his long before I ever met him.

I honestly can't count the times I was not informed my father was sick until he was out of danger, unless I was on vacation.  Then my sister felt the need to tell me.  Finally one year we went on a special anniversary trip to Italy and I told her she was not to let me know if he got sick unless I had to return home.  She didn't appreciate that at all.;)  Fortunately he stayed healthy that time.  Not to sound callus but I was never permitted a voice in his care or treatment.  I was only informed of what was happening and I couldn't always talk to him making me basically useless and frustrated.

I have a snger on this recording project who's driving me a bit crazy. Last week, i had to change a day around to accommodate her, after all her claims last spring that "I can drive in any time." Today, I just got an email that a round of ankle surgery that should have laid her up for two weeks has been complcated and she cannot put weight on it for six weeks. This totally screws up recording her as scheduled between Oct 2 and 6. At the moment I want to sack her, but I need to speak to the musical director and record producer. I've got two later sessions in October and November I could possibly move her to but it means contacting a lot of other singers to see if they are willing to move schedules around and I've still got two Metropolitan Opera singers I'd rather accommodate since I don't know what their Met schedules are. I hate this shit.

So, i wrote her back and told her it meant a lot of shuffling singers and I was loathe to start tearing apart a schedule that had been in place for four months before soncuslting with the music director, the record producer, and the investor. Now I've gotten two emails with an attitude of "Mother's pissed, let's placate" and she says she's only asking about possible rescheduling if possible. The question is, is she pulling a diva fit?

It's really hard to take a good photo of the tile, not sure why.  It is glass, maybe it's just hard to photograph

It that cat hanging from the drawer a towel or a pot holder?

http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=304876-87523-CHIGLABPAT648&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=3056283&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=sim&rel=nofollow

It's not a whole lot better, but it's better. Click on it and it's easier to see.  It came with a mesh backing 14 tiles by 14 tiles which made it easier to install.

The cat is a pot holder

Had to make soup tonight. The rainy weather called for it. So I thawed some pumpkin from last year and whipped it up with some chicken stock, heavy cream and sauteed onion. It lacked a little something, which turned out, in this case, to be coconut. Didn't have coconut milk, so I used shredded coconut. Added a great texture and just the right flavor.

What a comedy of errors day this has been.  I was supposed to have a two-o'clock meeting at LACC - I e-mailed the guy last night and twice today asking for confirmation, but never got it.  While I was dealing with the mail problems I got an e-mail from him at two-thirty asking where I was.  I called him immediately and it turns out that all my e-mails were in his spam folder.  He's fixed that now and we've rescheduled for tomorrow.  Then my friend e-mailed me this morning to say she'd put in the ticket request and would be through by three and did we want to have dinner before seeing The Glass Menagerie.  I said great and at five I drove to the Music Center - no traffic, got there in twenty minutes, parked underneath, walked up to the Taper and called my friend on her cell.  She sounded horrified and then told me it's NEXT week we're going - that was not clear in any e-mail she sent - in fact, anyone would have thought it was tonight from her e-mails.  I told her no sweat and then I had to drive home in horrendous rush hour traffic, although it really only took about thirty minutes back to the Valley.  I went to Gelson's, got a Wolfgang Puck roasted half-chicken, of which I just ate the breast and the wing (don't like the other stuff).  I'm now watching Forbidden Planet, which, thus far, does not look that good on Blu and Ray.  I still have the SE DVD and I'll compare it later.

Thanks for all the Vibes for my father and for myself. I will say that it does seem that he's truly taking it easy after this most recent surgery. -Unlike when, after just four weeks after his prostate cancer surgery, he was climbing on the roof clearing out the storm gutters.  Even my mom has started driving again to run errands and such. -Which is a good thing.

It's really hard to take a good photo of the tile, not sure why.  It is glass, maybe it's just hard to photograph

Try to get as much "natural" light in the room as possible and/or spill from the neighboring rooms. It's best to take the picture with no flash. Otherwise, the glass will just reflect the flash.

I didn't see this production, but I love the play, and I hear it isn't particularly done well.

It's a beautiful production.  It may be a little too naturalistic for some people, but I was moved by it.

I wouldn't be surprised.  This morning on received a bulk Facebook email from my niece announcing her engagement. :)  She did apologize for her method of delivery.

My cousin posted his engagement on facebook yesterday.  I personally was okay with it (they told their parents first). But my parents were not that happy. My mom doesn't even read facebook.  My dad could not believe that I had to tell him I read it on facebook vs his brother (father of the groom) calling to announce it.

Well...

Is she going to be homebound for the next six weeks? Just ask her if that's the case. If so, then find another singer. If not, then hold her to the original recording date. I'm sure she'll find a way to make it to the studio. Crutches, wheelchair, friend, assistant, etc., in tow.

I'll be interested to see how the progressive lens works - there is quite a big difference in my close and far sight, so I'm hoping it's fine.
Walking through a bookstore can be a problem. All that type going by can be disorienting.

Why I like using the computer to put books on hold at the library, no more trying to read the titles.

Speaking of putting books on hold at the library, in 2 weeks my library is finally going to be completely computerized.

I just really hope that they keep some of the great features they have now. I like to know what place I am to receive books (my sister's library doesn't do this). And I hope that there is not a small limit on how many books I can be waiting for. My sister can take out unlimited books. But she can only reserve 6 (meaning she can only be waiting for 6 books).

I will be happy to be able to renew, and request books at home.

Guess I better make that Gardenia reservation for next month.  Before I forget again and miss out.

Guess I better start being really nice to bk, to make sure I'm on the list for the First Nudie Musical screening next year.

I'm being silly, so I better get to sleep.

Night everyone, don't let the bed bugs bite.

Watching "The World According to Garp" for the first time since I saw the movie the theater upon initial release. Time has been kind to the movie and I'm glad the book is no longer quite so fresh in my mind. It's also fun seeing John Lithgow in his first screen appearance since I've started watching Dexter Season 4 on DVD and he's great in both.

"Garp" was also Glenn Close's first movie, if I remember correctly.
