Well, you've read the notes, the notes had comedy and a few errors, and now it is time for you to post until the comedy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DIZEN!
-
Topic of the Day: right now, I have some Reece's peanut butter ice cream in my freezer. I love it!
-
I also love any kind of pecan/praline-type flavor. And coconut. And cookies-and-cream. :D
-
And just plain vanilla or chocolate...but they have to be very good vanilla or chocolate.
-
And just plain vanilla or chocolate...but they have to be very good vanilla or chocolate.
There is nothing so irritating as a misbehaving chocolate!

Dear Jane,
It's time for your Dear Santa letter:
The 2011 Bentley Mulsanne has a starting price of $285,000. No more than 800 of the "ultra-luxury" sedans will be made annually. Each takes nine weeks to build. (Bentley / April 28, 2010)

I don't know if she lives in L.A. or N.Y.C., but have you thought about Susanne Blakeslee? She's great with voices that way you can have Julie Andrews, Ann-Margret, Barbra Streisand, Petula Clark and Marlene Deitrich (okay she's dead)
Also you may consider
Amanda McBroom
Judy Kaye

Good morning, all! I slept very well, although the dreams, which came fast and furious, were certainly bizarre. In the one I vaguely recall, i was caught up in a production of SWEENEY TOOD and a group of touring high school kids, missing luggage, bus troubles, etc.
This morning I have another round of the McGlinnventory, which will be to check item numbers on a few of the Schoenberg and Wagner Editions for pricing. Our paralegal Geri is wonderful, but she's no musician, and a lot of her information needs to be corrected and clarified before price lists go out. For instance, in the Schoenerg Edition we have a listing for EWARTUNG, but in the complete published edition there are two volumes listed, one the piano-vocal score (Series IIIB/6,1) for $74.00 and one the critical edition of the full score (Series IIIB/6,2) for $314.95. My inventory list omits the crucial series numbers.
The new Wagner edition is even more expensive and we're missing volumes in the series, so I cannot at times even offer for a sale a complete opera. For the FLYING EDITION there are five volumes:
Part One (Series 4/1): Full Score Act One $279.95
Part Two (Series 4/2): Full Score Act Two $287.95
Part Three (Series 4/3): Full Score $397.95
Part Four (Series 4/4): correspondence, notes, remainder Act Three $427.95
(Series 24) Documents, sketchest, correspondence, and Notes $271.95
We have four of the volumes and I assume it's the complete opera in four vols., but until I check it out, I'm stuck. After that, when we start biddding lists for prospetive buyers, who wants to pay $1393.00 for a (possibly) incomplete critical edition of THE FLYING DUTCHMAN? Even at 50% off, that's a lot of money!
I think we have one volume of the RIENZI edition (the inventory list doesn't say which volume), and there are at least two more volumes, so I can't even offer a complete edition. I wouldn't pay $100 for one used volume knowing I'd have to put out $400-700 for the rest of the edition.
I think a lot of these editions will be a tax writeoff to university libraries before the estate is settled. I think most of the folk interested in McGlinn's estate are hoping we're selling the complete score for ANYTHING GOES or SHOW BOAT, bit that isn't the case.
So, when you consider that McGlinn's apartment walls were filled with scores of this value, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and he died in complete poverty with no electric power in his apartment, what the hell?
-
Morning all.
I tried to post at 5:30 but got an error message so I'm posting now.
That is all.
Coffee from Tim Horton's. Nothing special. I don't know what all the fuss is about.
-
Thursday morning greetings! It's very chilly here - a hint of fall!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm back in New York City!!
-
And I'm doing laundry too!
-
And I also washed some dishes!
-
Obviously, I'm punchy. ::)
-
In any case...
My 12:30 bus did not end up pulling out of the parking lot until 12:56... And then it made four random(?) stops to pick up friends and family (I guess). However, even with those extra stops, we pulled into Chinatown at 6:26! And I just happened to catch the B train as it pulled into Grand Street, as well as the A train (express) at Columbus Circle. Door-to-door - Richmond to NYC - 6 hours and 10 minutes! Not bad. Not bad at all!
-
DR Jose - that was a very quick trip! Glad to hear your dad's OK.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Well...
Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Salted Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Palm Sugar, Currants and Cream, Pistachio, Hazelnut, Chocolate-Hazelnut, Chocolate Chip, Mint-Chocolate Chip, Chocolate-Chocolate Chip, Chocolate-Peanut Butter Chip, Butter Almond, Butter Pecan, Coconut-Almond Fudge Chip, Pineapple-Coconut, Black Cherry, Cherry-Chocolate Chip, Coffee, Coffee-Almond, Coffee-Chocolate Chip, Coffee-Almond-Chocolate Chip, Neapolitan, Spumoni, Macadamia Nut Brittle, Chocolate-Macadamia Nut, Ginger, Raspberry Swirl, Cinnamon, Cinnamon-Chocolate Chip, etc., etc., etc...
-
According to the FedEx website, our Kindles arrived in Grove City, OH, at 1:30pm on Tuesday. That's only about a 90 minute drive from here, so I see no reason why they shouldn't have been delivered yesterday. If they don't come today or tomorrow, I'll be inclined to drive there and pick them up!
-
On a related note, the gelati and sorbetti flavors this summer at OTTO Enoteca & Pizzeria (http://ottopizzeria.com/) have been amazing! Especially the sorbets! The Cucumber-Honeydew has to be one of the most refreshing flavors I've ever had. And their Milk Chocolate Chip gelato, somehow manages to keep the "chocolate chips" on the soft side. Truly decadent!
-
DR Jose - that was a very quick trip! Glad to hear your dad's OK.
DR Ginny - It was. And Thank You.
We had a good talk before I left. I made sure to find out exactly what kind of procedure he had, and just how long his recovery is supposed to take. Alas, I wasn't able to get a hold of his post-op paperwork, but he seemed very realistic about just how long he needs to take it easy. -And he also acknowledged that he probably should not have had such a busy August - which is apparently what aggravated his health situation. So that's a good thing.

TOD: I love any of kind of ice cream I can get my hands -- and mouth -- on. That said, a really fine homemade peach ice cream is the best.
I have one of those dual ice cream makers, so you can make two types at once. I'm rarely that greedy, though. Last year, my favorite flavor was ginger-candied bacon. Also fond of sour cream ice cream atop blueberry pie.

I guess it's in the air, but I'm having issues trying to find a horn player for Sunset Blvd. However, I woke up this morning I realized when my first orchestra rehearsal was and that I really really REALLY need the keyboard books ASAP for programming. Especially since we're reducing the parts from 3 to 2. Rodgers and Hammerstein won't send the parts early without a huge extra fee, which of course the company doesn't want to pay. I have the patch lists for the 3 keyboards but since we have to combine them all into 2, the list really does me no good. Not to mention the patch list is INSANE and would only really work with the 20+ member orchestra.
I'm off to figure something out

Verizon appears to be having problems today, so I needed to stop in the local store on Broadway to check my phone. While I was waiting for customer service, I saw Roger Rees on the street so I went out to tell him hello. He asked me what I was doing in the Verizon store and I said, "My phone; can't call out, can't get calls." He said, "that's no phone" and I said, "yep; it's a vegetable." Leave 'em laughing.
So, I have to have a little dinner and head back down to the NYU Dental Clinic. More pain.

It rained Tuesday night, Wednesday morning, and Wednesday night. Our fire danger dropped a notch. I prefer the rain at night. I was completely soaked when I returned from my hike yesterday.

Ginny did you like the Edith Wharton books you read with your group? I'm thinking of reading ETHAN FROME.

DR Jane - I liked the Wharton books, but many in my group did not. I have not read ETHAN FROME, but my DS Rob would tell you to stay far, far away. He had to read it in high school and hated it.
-
Thanks for the feedback. I won't pick the book. Does your DS Rob also dislike Jane Austin? I've read comparisons between the two authors. Do you agree there is one?
-
ETHAN FROME seems to be a popular book at the library. At sometime in the future I will read one of her books.
-
Thanks for the feedback. I won't pick the book. Does your DS Rob also dislike Jane Austin? I've read comparisons between the two authors. Do you agree there is one?
Well, they're at least 2 generations apart, one British and one American. But they do both write about social mores, so maybe there's a similarity. On the Barnes & Noble author site, where they suggest "If you like this author you might like..." Austen does not lead to Wharton, nor vice versa.
-
George-
Anything Happening with SP??
Yes! I am ready to burn however many discs people want, but my sister's boyfriend, Larry, is making a DVD (on a dual-layer DVD-R) that is automatically widescreen, for widescreen TVs. If this widescreen DVD is played on a regular TV, however, the image will be all squished together. So, I need to ask that those who wanted South Pacific to let me know which version you want. The anamorphic (but still standard def) widescreen version for widescreen TVs, or the regular standard-def version that has the black bars on the top and bottom so that the widescreen image is not squished on regular TVs.
Also, if anyone wants BOTH South Pacific and TCB's episode of "High School Stories," let me know so that I can send them both at the same time. I think that only a couple of people have said that they want both (which is fine), but if anyone still wants a copy of either (or both), it's not too late to let me know. :)
I hope that that all makes sense.
-
And now, I'm leaving work and going home.
Until later!
-
Thanks for the feedback. I won't pick the book. Does your DS Rob also dislike Jane Austin? I've read comparisons between the two authors. Do you agree there is one?
Wharton's New York-based novels may be more like austen, but I think of Ms Wharton as writer with neither humor nor irony. ETHAN FROM is all about repression and unhappiness and a tragic love triangle. The late great Jane certaily knows tragedy, but I'd rather read the tragicomedy PERSUASION. maybe my favorite novel ever, any day over ETHAN FROM.
-
Lucky you, Jennifer. I wish we could get some rain here.
Not lucky for me because I couldn't go on my bike. I'd like to be able to go everyday before it gets too cold.

Thanks DR's Ginny & elmore.

Well, folks, I'm calling it a night because I have to be up early tomorrow. Have to be at our local hospital before 8:30am to have the ultrasound on my legs that they were unable to do in the hospital. They tried to do it right after my procedure, when I still had cath leads in both femoral arteries and the pressure made me almost pass out. With all the blood thinning medication I'm taking, I doubt there's a blood clot anywhere, but the doctors want to make sure.
If the USPS website is to be believed, I will be a Kindle owner when I get home!
'night!

tell'' policy for gays in the military.
But government lawyers argued Phillips lacked the authority
to issue a nationwide injunction and the issue should be
decided by Congress.

U.S. District Judge Strikes Down Military Ban on Gays

George-
Anything Happening with SP??
Thanks George

That's worthy of a dance of some kind.

Cillaliz, that backsplash is beautiful. It really makes a big difference in a kitchen, I think.
Thanks MBarnum. Tonight I grouted until I ran out of grout and could grout no more. This photo is before it sets and there is a light film on it that I will clean off tomorrow. There is very little left to grout. I'll finish it tomorrow
-
Cilla, is your pattern purely random?
-
George:
SP in Widescreen please.
I'd love to see the TCB ep too if you can do that. :)
-
Cilla, is your pattern purely random?
Well it came in sheets of 14 x 14 tiles, but the sheets weren't the same...so I'd have to answer "yes"

HAPPY DANCE ;D
-
BAUBLES, BANGLES, AND BEADS ;D
-
I do have to say if I was being filmed for HGTV, Vern Yip would have ripped me a new one. My technique is far from top notch, but for my first attempt at tiling, I'm really proud of what I've done. It does take patience, but when I'm saving as much money as I am by doing it myself, I can be very patient
-
So far I've put in about 8 1/2 hours, with a maybe another hour or so to go.
-
NEVER TOO LATE DANCE ;D
-
JRand, sorry I didn't get to wish you broken legs before your performance tonight. Hope it went well
-
DEAR GEORGE,
just TCB's (I only have a 24" imac to play it on, is that OK ?, no TV)
hope you got my address in an email
Thank you. :-*

So, when you consider that McGlinn's apartment walls were filled with scores of this value, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and he died in complete poverty with no electric power in his apartment, what the hell?
How very sad. I didn't realize that.
Extremely sad.

And speaking of bacon...... you were weren't you John G.?........ The assortment of doughnuts that my co-workers brought from VooDoo Doughnuts (in Portland, Oregon), included maple bars with bacon on top. I was too full after eating half of a Memphis Mafia to try one; but the poeple who ate them raved about the combination.
Save me one, will ya?

Ginny did you like the Edith Wharton books you read with your group? I'm thinking of reading ETHAN FROME.
Input from any DR will be appreciated.
Ethan Frome is better read when you want to read than being forced to read it for a class. It's slim and a sad view of a hard life. "Summer" is also a good, short Wharton read. My fave is "Age of Innocence," a slyly caustic tale of fury and not enough sound that has some ugly laughs in it.

DR Jane - I liked the Wharton books, but many in my group did not. I have not read ETHAN FROME, but my DS Rob would tell you to stay far, far away. He had to read it in high school and hated it.
I posted my last note without seeing this from Ginny. I hated most everything I had to read for a class.
By the way, "House of Mirth" is also wonderful. "Glimpses of the Moon," her short stories ... I've liked most everything of hers that I've picked up, except for "The Children." Just couldn't get into that one and I tried a half-dozen times.
-
Thanks for the feedback. I won't pick the book. Does your DS Rob also dislike Jane Austin? I've read comparisons between the two authors. Do you agree there is one?
I don't think there's much comparison. Austen was a great social commentator, as was Wharton, but the ways in which they went about their stories was completely different. Austen is effervescent, her comments can be pointed but rarely deadly, and love reigns fairly supreme. Wharton is all deadly. Ugly things happen to her characters, including death or being mummified by society. Love is never easy and never helpful in finding the right answer.
Both are well worth reading.
-
Cillaliz: I share your grout pain. I once installed tile in half of my house (when I lived in Florida). I thought the grout work would never end.
-
got in late (way late) from lunch and from margaritas and then dance class (a deadly combination). So food photos will have to be leftovers tomorrow. Good night, all.
-
Good Evening!
I hope that my birthday twin, DR JRand, had/has a wonderful Opening Night!
-
In the meantime, I've been cleaning, doing laundry, watching TV, napping (I think), folding laundry and packing for my trip to Atlanta in the morning. Sorry if I've been sitting here like so much fish.
-
And I'm going to try to get a few hours of sleep before I head to LGA in a couple of hours, so...
Goodnight.
-
I'm quite tired. Tired I'm quite. I'll probably write and post the notes early because I've got a ten o'clock with Teddy.

Did I miss anyone? Does anyone want one or both that hasn't already said? Has anyone changed their mind about anything? It's not too late. It'll never be too late. Just remember...it'll probably cost the same amount to mail one disc as it will be to send two. Im' just sayin'. ;)
