Well, you've read the notes, the notes had an Arabian flavor (lime), and now it is time for you to post until the Arabian cows come home.

Well thanks to one and all for the HHW vibes.  Our opening night went very well.....even better than expected.  We had a fine crowd - probably 3/4's of a house......with laughs from start to finish....AND a standing ovation began when Kenny & Shalynn came out for their bows (Charlie & Kate, the kids), and it finished up as Diana & I came out.....lots of nice comments.

So - I am thinking this will be a good run!

Only a half day of work today.....and then Friday night - our least responsive audience, historically, so we shall see.

I cannot recommend this play more highly for community theatre groups......family friendly and lots of laughs....

I have extended an invitation to my Indianapolis theatre friends to attend - those with whom I work in "professional" theatre (I am only an Equity Candidate, so I can continue to work in community theatre) - but there is a definite division there and many of them wouldn't think of attending a "community theatre" show....and that's too bad.

Oh well, I will keep  a list of those who bother to drive out.....

Good morning, all! I am in less pain than I thought this morning so that's fantastic. The Oaf, who's generally asleep untl 11 am, must be on Toronto Family Time since he was tromping about beginning at 7:30 or so. That wll change very quickly, I'm sure.

Today, lots of writing to be accomplished. I've got to deal with scheduling a singer for an audition, insuring everyone got the music I sent out, and looking over the schedule to see if I can accomplish anything for the diva with the ankle surgery.

DR JRand60, great news about last night's perforance! I hope the enthusiasm continues for the remainder of the run.

TOD:
DVD: the Netflix items still sit here and I would rather watch more of THRILLER
CD: Kurt Weill songs, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, French arias by Maria Callas
  VCR: the usual

TOD:  I have "One-Eyed Jacks" and "The Deep" lined up for CD-iTunes-iPod listening!

On Blu-ray, I have "Wings of Desire" and "The Red Shoes" currently "on top" of a pile.

On my DVR still awaiting a DVD-R transfer, the 2010 World Championships (figure skating) recorded off digital TV broadcasts.  For some odd reason, I am loath to "begin" this project.  Unless it's not so "odd" a reason as I found the competition rather lackluster.

BDs:  A bunch of new A&E titles I'm reviewing.  Some BIG soundtrack probs on the new STORY OF US coming out next week.  Don't buy it yet if you're thinking of it until I hear back from the studio reps about what's going on.  Also enjoying PATTON 360, if only because my father's battalion is featured.  :)

CDs:  I cannot recommend SAINT JOAN highly enough for those who may not have gotten it yet.  What a lovely score.  I've made it through disc one of ONE EYED JACKS--typically lush Friedhofer, but such an unusual score for a Western.  Loved, loved, loved Nick Redman's liner notes--you should have him do more for you BK.  Incredibly informative and very readable.

Elmore's sad comment about McGlinn's living situation reminded me of when I got to my parents' house after my Mom had died.  She had decided to stay in the huge house they had built in the mountains outside of SLC even after my Dad had died, which was probably not a good decision in retrospect.  I quickly discovered the hot water heater had no pilot light and Lord knows how long she had been living there without hot water.  She got pretty weird toward the end--we think she may have had a stroke, and I've often wondered what her last weeks were like there.

Ethan Frome is better read when you want to read than being forced to read it for a class. It's slim and a sad view of a hard life. "Summer" is also a good, short Wharton read. My fave is "Age of Innocence," a slyly caustic tale of fury and not enough sound that has some ugly laughs in it.

No, that's the problem.  If you play the widescreen DVD on a regular TV (even though it's not a high-def DVD), the picture will be squished and not watchable.  If you have a widescreen TV (or if anyone else has the same situation), I could send you both versions of SP...that wouldn't be a problem at all!

So, I found a weird one at Big Lots today: "Varsity Show" with Dick Powell and Fred Waring & His Pennsylvanians. Apparently Busby Berkeley did the finale, so I figured it was worth $3. Also found Fred and Ginger's "Shall We Dance" as well as "The Player." All new. All $3.

Now I need some time to watch them. Oh, wait. I'm unemployed. I should have time, right?

No, that's the problem.  If you play the widescreen DVD on a regular TV (even though it's not a high-def DVD), the picture will be squished and not watchable.  If you have a widescreen TV (or if anyone else has the same situation), I could send you both versions of SP...that wouldn't be a problem at all!

Good Morning! Good Afternoon!

I'm up, I'm up... And, actually, I wasn't up...

When I opened my eyes this morning, the clock said 8:28. My flight was at 9:00. You do the math. :-\

In any case, the folks at Delta helped me rebook for a later flight, and I arrived Atlanta about an hour ago. So far, so good. We're at an airport hotel this year, but it's a surprisingly nice one. And since Cindy at the desk took the time to look up my old Starwood Preferred Guest information, my room now comes with FREE WiFi, breakfast, lunch and afternoon cocktails. :-)

Thank you, DRs Jeanne and Jane, for the words of encouragement!  Today's walk on the treadmill seemed really difficult until I realized (about the same time as the nurses) that the previous walker had had it set to a 4% incline.  I'm still walking on flat ground in the gym, although at a faster pace (2.4 mph today).

Thanks for asking.  This morning Keith told me not to ask everyday if it looks smaller when in reality I waited two days to ask. ;D  It isn't getting worse.

I'm back from Sara Jean's audition and she is unbelievably fantastic. Since the audition was for a Victor Herbert recording, I told her to bring something operetta-ish, so she showed up, sang "Mein Herr Marquis" from DIE FLEDERMAUS, and knocked our socks off: precise coloratura, great regard for the lyrics, and a high D to shake the ceiling. The Naked Hercules Zak and MD Billy, who was a coach at the Met and can be a real vocal critic, both were floored by her talent. And what's worse is she's beautiful, very sweet, and extremely talented. Billy's coment after she left was, if you believe in divine providence, God sent her.

Here is my day so far:

1.  Went to Zach's school for a parent coffee.
2.  Came home and dealt with the pest control man, who wanted to tell me ALL about his son the musician and his soccer adventures in England.  (I made the mistake of guessing his accent and told him my father was from England).
3.  Cleaned out the back gutters, which I am guessing hadn't been cleaned since the house was built.
4.  Repaired three holes in said gutters with extremely messy, sticky silicone.
5.  Dealt with two system updates on two different PS3s so that I could recheck this AMERICA STORY OF US soundtrack issue.  A&E is completely freaked out by my comments as this is their Number 1 release of the year.  I will say it sounded *almost* normal on my Onkyo 7.1, as opposed to the Sony 7.1 I initially used, though there is so much gratuitous LFE on this track it's hard to tell--you can barely hear Liev Schreiber a lot of the time.

So, we're set with an audition at 4pm today. Sara Jean Ford, who was Kate's standby on FINIAN'S RAINBOW, will come in and sing for us this afternoon. She's just taken over the role of Christine in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on Broadway.
http://web.me.com/sweet.ford11/sarajeanford.com/Welcome.html

Is it true, that if PHANTOM OF THE OPERA plays for another twenty years; every Equity actress in New York City between the ages of 16 and 66 will have played the role of Christine in at least one performance?

Ours was leaking by the water meter -- we only knew it because the grass was really really green right there.

I'll check outside tomorrow, but inside it's totally dry.  I have used a lot of water lately on various projects.  Maybe that's it, who knows

Cilla, I recommend you turn off your main water in and then go look at your water meter.  If it isn't moving, you're safe.  If not, you may have a repair to do.  We got a similar notice a long time ago at our old house and it turned out to just be a fluke.  That said, when we were getting ready to buy this house, I noticed that the water meter was running even when nothing was supposedly on in the house.  I had the previous owners pay to have a plumber come and he found a very slow leak in one of the toilets.  But if you turn off your water main and check your meter, you'll know for sure right away.

They still can't be together without growling and spitting. And there's some random yowling for no apparent reason.

They might be practising for appearances on Fox News.

I have a couple of DVDs to watch, but otherwise I have an entire weekend free to do nothing but...work on my job application.

I went down to the basement earlier and looked at the water meter.  Even without shutting off the water it wasn't running.  I watched it for awhile and nothing moved.  So, I'll check again before bed, but I'm pretty sure it's ok.

That's good news.  Hopefully the worst is over.  I'm glad you were there for them tonight, DR Laura, sounds like they were scared and upset

I would hate to think of them in a cage at the shelter tonight. I am glad I brought them home. Even though it means I have to change the plans I had for tomorrow.

They are across the room from each other sacked out. I am sure when they wake up in the morning, they will be back to normal. I hope.
