Well, you've read the notes, the notes smelled and had fragrance, and now it is time for you to post until the smelly cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ORISON!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
You'd think it was a Saturday morning at 7:15am or something.
-
I spy a guest.
-
I also love flowers.....roses can be overpowering, but they are beautiful. I also like lilies and chrysanthemums.
What a topical topic - here is a bouquet that was sent to me on opening night by my friend Beth, who played Ruth in BLITHE SPIRIT.
-
I like to put flowers in pitchers sometimes, rather than vases.....sometimes.
-
Key congrats to DR MBARNUM, Apt. Dweller.
Good and considerate neighbor vibes as well.
-
DR JMK & DR DRUXY - I liked SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SAND quite a lot.....it reminded me of the movie 300 - so if that was something you liked, then you will like SPARTACUS.....it is entertaining....and of course it features some nice looking ladies and gentlemen - and XENA THE PRINCESS WARRIOR in an interesting role.
-
Friday night report:
Most excellent audience....we had only FIVE seats left in the theater! FIVE!!! And another standing ovation....two in a row!
So funny....lots of laughs.
Tim Good - the acting professor from DePauw who played Charles in BLITHE SPIRIT brought a class of students to see the show....20 of them. God knows what they thought....Tim said "it will give us a lot to talk about....." Whatever that means!
-
Jrand - Great Friday night report. Lovely to hear it.
-
Thanks DR FJL.
And now I am off to work for 4 hours......oh well.
-
Good morning, all! I forgot that I am seeing COCO at the York today, so I'm reorganizing my morning schedule.
I slept well, and I have no memories of any dreams. Last night I finished reading Carl Hiaasen's STAR ISLAND, which I liked very much. I have first editions of eight of his novels so I'm missing the first three, which I hope to correct in the near future. I finished the book wondering if this were the last; one of his recurrent characters has a memorable role in the new book and a rather elegiac conclusion. I lke to hope there will be more, equally funny and satisfying.
DR JRand60, I am happy last night went well. Perhaps your friend meant that the students had much to discuss between the nature of popular Broadway comedies of the 1960s and much of the dramatic literature written today? Then, again, perhaps they have much to discuss finding aprofessional performance on film - since I would guess tha's where they see most things - equivalent to your stunning turn?
DR Laura, I hope the drugged kitties are behaving today. Sandra, too.
-
TOD:
I know absolutely nothing about flowers...except that they're pretty.
::)

It's been decades since I've seen NEVER TOO LATE (e/Andy Devine) on stage...or even the movie.
But, there's one line in that play that I've never forgotten. I don't remember the exact wording, but the wife buys some lumber for the nursery from her husband's competitor because the prices were lower, and the husband replies, something like, "Hell, I would have given it to you at cost."
Funniest line in the play.
-
I forgot about Coco. Oh, well.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I did not over sleep this morning. -Whew!
-
Don't forget to take a moment or two today to Remember...
-
DR Laura - As I was walking through ATL yesterday...

And now I have some auditions to play...
Laters...

Irises are my favorite flower. Their various aromas are just intoxicating to me. Here's a photo of one around my parents' house. They have them in burgundy, white, several shades of blue, even a gorgeous black one. I can't grow them here in South Texas. I tried, but it frizzled in the heat last year.
I do have roses in the backyard, but I have neglected them this year.
-
Wasn't "orison" the word of the day a few months back? I seem to recall a few Orison Welles comments for some reason.
-
I have too much on my plate today. I'm helping a friend write her bio this morning, then off to Pilates, followed by a PowerPoint and wine class (wine facilitates the learning process) this evening followed by dinner with friends.
-
And the word of the day is: ORISON!
Well...we have done ORISON before(recently) But it's September 11..so it's very appropriate...so....
The Song Of The Day Is: SAY A LITTLE PRAYER FOR ME
-
The kitties finally did quiet down, but this morning they are growling at each other again. So I guess there goes the chance that they might get adopted together.
-
Great photo, Jose. Thanks for thinking of me.
-
In my yard blooming now I have lantana, red bird of paradise, bee brush (which smells like vanilla), desert senna, sacred datura, baja fairy duster, yerba mansa, yellow bells, chocolate flower, wooly butterfly bush, and some little yellow flower that came up as a weed. Most of these things draw butterflies.
-
One simply cannot have enough orison. Who can remember anymore?
-
I'm up, it's early, and I'm tired, not necessarily in that order.
-
Maybe I'll try to do a morning jog in about thirty minutes.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Yesterday's 6:30am wake-up call caught up with me about 9:30 last night and I crashed in the middle of watching BLOOD DIAMOND with DS Rob. Today's agenda includes walking in the basement (looks like rain), going to the grocery, watching Michigan/Notre Dame, and making chicken spaghetti for dinner.
-
TOD - pink carnations. Actually, any carnations because they last a long time and I like the fragrance. Roses are overrated, IMHO. The only flowers we have in our yard are a couple of patches of daffodils, another flower that I like very much.
-

A shot of the interior.

I've juggled the recording schedule again and now I'm waiting to hear from our musical director and several singers that tis change will affect.
God, I hate this nonsense! And I suspect this will continue every day until the recording finishes in January.
-
And, yes, I've read this book and several others in the series:
-
Nice looking food, John!
Perhaps I shall take a photo of the camp food next time I am up at some church camp.
-
My goodness. There is no sisterly love in this house. These two gals are still yowling and growling at each other. I wonder what went on between them yesterday.
-
Last night I sight read a run through of La Cage - I'll be playing accordion and various synth things for the production. But I had the best time. This show is still amazing after 20+ years. Looking forward to the run.
And now, off to Youth Choir rehearsal. It's the first rehearsal under my leadership. I'm expecting 2 people. More about that later....
-
LOL! That sounds about like if we tried to start a choir, Matthew.
-
And the word of the day is: ORISON!
Roy?
-
My goodness. There is no sisterly love in this house. These two gals are still yowling and growling at each other. I wonder what went on between them yesterday.
Maybe they are blaming each other.

Letter to singer with ankle problem and now I wait for the fallout.

You asked us to tell you about the flowers in our sundried gardens. I prefer fresh flowers to sundried.

Petrunias are about the only thing I grew this year on my balcony,
-
I love lilies. All kinds. Around my outdoor home environment I have a ton of white lilies, Cannas, and assorted asiatic lilies.
-
Those are not from my balcony!
-
You asked us to tell you about the flowers in our sundried gardens. I prefer fresh flowers to sundried.
I thought that in Arizona, all flowers were sundried.
-
Soon I shall be on my way to a book fair.
-
The kitties finally did quiet down, but this morning they are growling at each other again. So I guess there goes the chance that they might get adopted together.
To cure the problem I would give my cats baths and remove the scent of the vet, plus then they smelled the same good scent. Since you can't bathe them after surgery try wiping them down, with distilled if you have it, water and maybe brushing their coats with a touch of mineral oil or something nice but not overpowering.
-
Nice looking food, John!
Perhaps I shall take a photo of the camp food next time I am up at some church camp.
Is it as attractive as a military MRE or more like Jell-O molds and deviled eggs?
-
Made it through the exercise class without too much pain (at least for now; tomorrow may be another story). And wrote a friend's bio. I think I need an afternoon nap.
-
The weather here is crazy. It was supposed to be 13C this morning and a high of 21C this afternoon (high 60s).
So when I went to see my niece's soccer tournament at 10am I dressed for 15C. But it was so hot. It must have been 70s and I was boiling hot. Way to go weather channel!
-
I love flowers!
-
Those fried shrimps look so good.
One thing I'm craving which I have not had for ages are fried clams. I'm not even sure where they sell them here.
-
First I heard this sound:
http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/36/_/Coopers_Hawk.aspx (press listen to call)
I stopped and asked the gentleman looking up into the tree what the sound was. Just after he said a Cooper's Hawk the hawk flew out of the tree so I could see it. For a close up of a Cooper's Hawk:

Fried clams are wonderful. Steamed clams, grilled clams. Clams are perhaps my favorite food.
-
And still that didn't get us off this page.
-
That one didn't either.
-
Page Three clam dance!
-
Got back from the grocery just in time to see Michigan intercept Notre Dame's 1st quarter pass and then score a touchdown - Go, Blue (beat Brian Kelly, traitor to Univ. of Cincinnati)
-
Good afternoon!
TOD: Carnations too!

Or brush them with the same brush going back and forth. Then each cats scent is on the other and it's pleasing...or something like that

Ok, these will be the last of the kitchen photos, I'm going to try the ulitmate before and after.. Before is from photos I took right before I bought the house. It's in a different computer, so I'll have to run downstairs to post the after .
-
Hello, everyone.
TOD:
I love irises and petunias and lobelia and snapdragons (so much fun for kids!) and peonies and many others.
-
The last kitchen photo I'll post (I promise ;) )
-

I had forgotten what the original kitchen looked liked. You must be feeling darn good about now. :D

Great job on the kitchen, DR Cillaliz!

I've been asked to do a book signing for my memoir on Sunday, October 17th, 2pm, at:
Mystery and Imagination Bookshop
238 North Brand Boulevard
Glendale, CA 91203-2610
If you live in Los Angeles or thereabouts, please come on down.
Thanks.
-
Ok, now, to try to make some banana bread. I almost hate to admit I've never made it before but I have over ripe bananas, so I may as well give it a try

Back from my travels. I didn't end up jogging this morning and now I wish I had because I really don't feel like it now - but I will at some point have to do it.
-
The book fair was a modest affair, dealer-wise, and even more modest attendance-wise. But I had a good time and there were some really nice books there, and I got to hang out with several dealers I'm fond of. I was there about two-and-a-half hours, then I came back to the San Fernando Valley. The San Diego freeway going north was appalling and insane - at two o'clock jammed to a stand-still. I got off at Sunset and took Beverly Glen home - had I not done that I'd probably still be on that stupid freeway.
-
Then I picked up one package and the envelope I was hoping would arrive, plus yet more Kritzerland bills, which really never stop.
-
After that, I had a sandwich at Jerry's Deli. As I was leaving, I happened to glance over at the next table and sitting with a friend was David Wechter's mother, Cissy. How funny is that?
-
Now I am home and will relax, jog, and watch something, but right now someone needs to get me off this damn page.
-
BK, where was the Book Fair? In Santa Monica?
-
Ok, now, to try to make some banana bread. I almost hate to admit I've never made it before but I have over ripe bananas, so I may as well give it a try
You can freeze your over ripe bananas. I do it all the time.
How did it turn out?
-
On my bike ride today a lady in a car almost hit me ... at a bike crosswalk!
-
I think she almost gave herself a heart attack.
It is the only bike crosswalk where I have to cross traffic (the other ones I go with the traffic).
I always let the cars at the stop sign go first. And then I either wait till the cars motion for me to go. Or make eye contact.
So today I go and in one direction there are no cars. The other direction there are 2 cars but they are not at the stop sign yet.
So I cross half way. Then wait for the first car to stop. She does. And I look at her. And she is looking in my direction but she does not make direct eye contact with me. I start to go slowly. And she starts to go. Then she sees me in front of her and hits her brakes. She was going very slow. And she wasn't actually within a foot of me.
But I look at her and just before she hit the brakes she had this look on her face like she was not paying attention. And then after she saw me her mouth was wide open. I really think she scared herself pretty badly.
I try to be as careful as I can. But who almost hits someone at a bike crosswalk?!
I sort of felt bad that she was obviously upset (she didn't start her car after i'd crossed). The guy behind her was honking at her. But she should have been paying attention. She was driving a car after all!
-
I got back from COCO to an unhappy phone call from the singer with the ankle who is not happy about what is going on. I sent to her, the record producer, the man with the funds, and the musical director an email saying, I've bent as far as I can for you, I've got 15 other singers to juggle, and if you're unhappy with the current schedule, perhaps I should look for a new singer. I hate this nonsense, especially being made to feel guilty because of her decisions and assuming I will fix things.
As to COCO, Andrea Marcovicci gave us a summer stock impersonation of Hepburn and couldn't save a lousy show. It's a mess: second rate score, horrible book, lousy characterizations and a strong lesban subtext. I'm sure with a huge star, Rene Aubergenois, George Rose, Michael Bennett, scenery, Cecil Beaton costumes and fabulous Hershy Kay orchesrations, the flaws were better concealed. It's still garbage.
-
Page Three clam dance!
Chowder! Steamed! Yum!
-
Why they keep trying to resurrect certain shows like Coco as if they were hidden masterpieces is an enigma to me. They keep doing it with Merrily and every time they do all the Sondheads show up, woo-hoo, have orgasmic reactions, while normal audience members continue to shake their heads and wonder why the show keeps being revived. Yes, like Anyone can Whistle it has a good score, but that doesn't mean the SHOW needs to be revived every three years like clockwork, with much trumpeting that it will come to B'way and, of course, it never does - should it, my prediction is unless it was a Roundabout or similar very limited engagement, it will fold just as quickly as the original.
-
Pogue, yes the fair was in Santa Monica.
-
I'm really thinking we need to get off this damn page before I blow a gasket or three.
-
And anyone who has seen me blow a gasket or three knows that that is to be avoided at all costs.
-
I guess I'll try to work up the jog energy starting here, starting now.
-
On my bike ride today a lady in a car almost hit me ... at a bike crosswalk!
I'm glad you were watching out for yourself.
-
Michigan 28, Notre Dame 24 - welcome to the big leagues, Mr. Kelly!
-
T.O.D.
I never met a pansy I didn't like.
-
I blew a gasket once!
-
Back from a mile and a half jog and shall now try and watch something.
-
Well, this has been a really suckie day, so.......................
G'night!
-

Chess is another show on that list.
-
Learned basics of PowerPoint this afternoon. But, I tell you, the wine was more interesting.
-
And anyone who has seen me blow a gasket or three knows that that is to be avoided at all costs.
Been there, seen it!
Ouch!
My power play worked; the singer sent me a sweet email about behaving. I learned from BK!
-
Since I have to get up real early again tomorrow to accompany Fr. Richard to Lima - 'night!
-
That's it for me. I think my exercise class wiped me out. A couple of aspirin and I'm off to bed. Night, all.
-
New all time low anyone? Congratulations
-
Finished watching a motion picture and may start another.
-
I am off to bed as well.
This day was peculiar; I as bdy all morning with Victor Herbert minutiae, I had a wonderful lunch with Bruce Pomahac and saw a dreadful show. When I got back here, I lost most of my evenin dealing with the soprano with the ankle. After that, I ready my mail, opened several packages, and now I'm going to bed.
I have a lot of things to accomplish tomorrow.
-
And another thing:
-
Good night, everyone!
-

It seems like some shows were just written to be done in concert.

Are you kidding me? Page 4?
-
Oh my! This won't do
-
I guess you'll have to just deal with my rantings
-
I've been watching 9-11 stuff on the History Channel today
-
Wish I could have watched Clear Blue Tuesday instead
-
Good Evening!
I played.
I walked.
I ate.
I walked some more.
I ate some more.
I then walked some more.
And that about sums up my day.
And tomorrow and Monday will most likely follow the same format.
-
I'm thinking about watching The Girl Who Played With Fire...but it's a little late
-
Maybe I'll watch both tomorrow
-
Both Fire and the Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, that is
-
PAGE 5!!!
-
Ok, everybody join in....
-
Great looking kitchen, Cillaliz!
-
And anyone who has seen me blow a gasket or three knows that that is to be avoided at all costs.
I think that is illegal in some states.
-
Let's see how fast we can get off this page
-
Thanks Laura! How are the Kitties? Did you take them to be adopted today or are they still with you
-
After I got the kittens settled at adoptions I headed up to church camp. I managed to get there after lunch and left before dinner, so no camp food photos from me today.
-
Spent the better part of the day moving boxes and crates to the new apartment.
Met a few of my new neighbors, and they are really nice (and some are really nice looking!)
And I think there are more then just 7 Indian men living in my building. They were everywhere... ;D
-
Well, that explains that....were they friendly with each other when they got to adoptions?
-
I took them. There were two other kittens -- a little bigger than ours, but very pretty.
-
MBarnum, sounds like this is the perfect place for you to be!
-
I don't know. They were scared, of course. I hope they got along.
-
I'm sure they'll be ok

Great Food Photos DR Jose.
-
DR Jose, was that borsht?
-
Ok, let's see.....the banana bread.
-
it was pretty good. It was a Chiquita Banana Bread Mix. I added pecans
-
Next time I'll make it from scratch
-
Let's get to page 6 before BK comes back
-
And this was the cocktail that started off my evening at Shaun's: The Thistle (the old mill rum, green chartreuse, allspice dram, lime, maple syrup)
http://twitpic.com/2nisi0
That was Tasty!

I am so glad I finished grouting. I was getting really tired of it
-
This morning Paul and I went to Jitters to have Sunshine Doughnuts. They are an old fashioned cake doughnut made with an old fashioned doughnut machine. OHHH MAN!!! They were soooo good.
-
I hope that food was as good as it looks!
Was that a tiny porpoise in your soup, though?

Here's a link to a photo of the doughnut machine

DR Jose, was that borsht?
Here was the meal - which was their featured Prix Fixe tonight:
Cold Beet Soup with Goat Cheese Sorbet
Berkshire Pork Schnitzel with Grilled Onions, Parsley Salad & Peanuts
Chocolate Mousse with Chocolate Almond Crumble & Banana Sorbet
*And Callie, the bartender/mixologist/nurse/Peace Corps volunteer recommended the Lindeman's Kriek (Black Cherry) Lambic to go with the dessert. And it did!

I returned home this evening to the news that my interviewees, Miss Rebel Randall, passed away back in July.
Rebel was quite a character, but a real sweetheart. Her films included some Abbott and Costello films, some Maria Montez films, GHOST MINE (1941), ZIEGFELD GIRL (1941), SEVEN DOORS TO DEATH (1944), THE CASE OF THE BABYSITTER (1947), and THE ROARING CITY (1951). She also worked frequently with The 3 Stooges.

More like the country of origin. ;)
-
I'm sorry about your sad news, MBarnum. She was beautiful.
-
Oh! And I had deep-fried balls of pimento cheese last night... YUMMY! (I may have mentioned that already)
-
That's a great doughnut video! What a fun way to start the site
-
I'm sorry about the news, too MBarnum. I missed it with the page turn or would have mentioned it sooner.
-
*I'm posting from my iPhone since the hotel's WiFi is Ronny tonight - thus just the links and not [img]'s.
-
Ronny? Does that mean it isn't working very well? I'm a bit out of the loop
-
ok, time for me to sign off ....I think I did my work here
-
DR MBarnum - I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Rebel Randall. -Has your interview with her already been published?
-
Ronny? Does that mean it isn't working very well? I'm a bit out of the loop
Oops! Auto-correct strikes again. That should have been "wonky".
-
Whew, thanks all for the frenzy or three.
-
Jose has now officially made me HUNGRY!
-
I've been working my fingers to the bone - wrote a blurb, and have been prepping for our announcement.
-
DR Cillaliz - You can also make a VERY easy Banana Sorbet with overripe bananas. Just mash them until they're very smooth. Place the "mash" in a container and freeze. Scoop and eat once it's frozen.

The Enabler strikes again!
;D
-
As for bk blowing a gasket, well...
This "Haitian Dog" has nothing to say about that right now. ;)
-
I blew a gasket once!
And that's supposed to be news to us?

Just the bananas? Isn't that just frozen banana?

As for COCO - bk - It's being presented by The York as part of their "Musicals in Mufti" series. Most of the shows in that series are presented because they were and still are not great shows, or even good shows. They're presented as curiosities.

Yep, just the bananas. *You can also freeze a can of canned pears for an easy pear sorbet.
-
I still wish that Christine Baranski had gone ahead with her(?) plans to do COCO somewhere.
-
Oy, what a busy day! I have written three longish reviews, gotten screencaps and reviews uploaded, and also madly started my choral arrangements for my Pops choir, which starts up again next Thursday.
The oddest thing had happened when I went to notate--my MIDIMAN drivers had simply up and disappeared and I needed to re-download them and install before I could use the notation software. Odd.
-
My MIDIMAN Drivers Had Disappeared is, of course, the new Adriana Hofstetter mystery novel, but I am sworn to secrecy about everything else concerning it.
-
I kind of like the score to COCO. So sue me. I think "A Woman is How She Loves" is a masterpiece, but, Elmore you're right, a lot of that is due to Hershy. :)
-
it was pretty good. It was a Chiquita Banana Bread Mix. I added pecans
I've used that...it is good. :)
-
I've gotten you off that damn page. I don't know what else I can do here, as it's not likely I will get you off THIS damn page.
-
DR Jennifer - I'm sure there has to be a seafood restaurant or two in your area that serves fried clams. It's not like they're a delicacy.
*And I'm glad you only had a close call today, and not an accident.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this before, but..
Lincoln Center had a wonderful display of Katharine Hepburn's theatrical memorabilia. One of the pieces was a letter signed by all the members of orchestra of COCO asking, pleading with her not to leave the show.
-
Coco was also recently done concert style in San Francisco by 42nd Street Moon, and also starred Andrea.

DR MBarnum - I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Rebel Randall. -Has your interview with her already been published?
Yes, her interview was in CLASSIC IMAGES magazine last year.
-
Jose has now officially made me HUNGRY!
Me, too!
-
Was trying to coerce someone to going for pie but couldn't.
-
OK... I have 160 people to play for starting in just eight hours, so...
Goodnight

Do you mash the pears too?
-
Good night! Thanks for all the info Jose, I'll be eating frozen pears and bananas before you know it, lol
-
I am no longer hungry. I just had two Boca burgers with pizza sauce, on flat hamburger buns. :D
-
Notes are really long, so I'm just wrapping them up - and announcing the new Kritzerland title.
