Well, you've read the notes, the notes were just horsing around, and now it it time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently upset that there is only one cow saying - of course, we've been using that saying for nine years here at haineshisway.com, so that's nothing to sneeze at.

When things were not going well at my house, or no one would admit to a particular wrong doing, my father would always say:
"Heads are gonna roll."

Which scared me and made me laugh all at the same time.

And when heavy blame was placed on a particular individual, said individual would always say: "Well, shoot me at sunrise."

I love the quotes George offered from "City of Angels." I guess, though, the only phrase I use fairly regularly is, "Would that it were ..." It's a phrase that confuses a lot of people who don't know grammar, which may explain why I like it.

Good morning, all! I've got my second "Romping Redhead" so I am content for the moment. The problem with a lot of recording dates and 15 singers to juggle, plus the 10 gentlemen and ladies singing backup, is that there are too many variables to allow me to relax before this thing is finished. In some instances I can think, we'll do it later, but I only have two catch up session dates, too many singers, and several divas.

Today I meet Mr Rob Berman, the mighty musical director of FINIAN'S RAINBOW, at the NYPL Music Division to look over the original manuscripts of WHERE'S CHARLEY?  Since I began this restoration in 1998, I'm expected to shed much light, while I actually remember next to nothing. When I was in the Encores! office several weeks ago, I ran across my full score to the show and thought, hmmmm, this looks vaguely familiar.  So, it will be good to see Rob and my favorite music librarian Bob Kosovsky today and we'll see what cI can remember about this show.

I forgot to comment on Pogue's post about the sound of the music for The Unforgiven - in the film the music does sound very weird - it has nothing to do with the recording, though, which, if you listen to the audio samples, is just fine.  I think it has everything to do with the home video releases - something went wrong somewhere because the music is muffled and sounds awful in the various video transfers.  On CD - it's really good.

The teenage wags who just had to show up for the first preview of of a new musical here in Los Angeles, California are drooling all over themselves to say how AMAZING its leading man is and how AMAZING it all is and now AMAZING that it will be coming right into NY because they talked to the AMAZING producers at the stage door and that's what the AMAZING producers said.  And then an adult comes on and posts something very different - isn't that funny?

A trip to the library SHOULD be fun!

Most of the time it is, but I do have frustrating visits, like when the missing/lost BABES IN TOYLAND scrapbook won't turn up or a 1902 scrapbook for THE WIZARD OF OZ is too tattered to be examined, or when something crucial, like the original prospectus book for the 1956 CANDIDE has been stolen from the show scrapbook!

This Time Machine backup thing is driving me absolutely insane - it's been "finishing" its latest backup for forty-minutes now - I don't get it and neither does Apple, but they say as long as there's no error message to leave it be.  The problem is that while it's "finishing" I can't burn CDs because the CDRs for whatever reason don't read when the damn Time Machine is working.  I'm going to manually force it to stop in about thirty seconds.

When I was a kid, way back during WW2, my mother used to say to me:

The late great Allan Sherman had a wonderful routine attributing his substantial girth to that saying. ("So I would clean the plates - four, five, six times a day - because somehow I felt that that would keep the children from starving in Europe. But I was wrong. They kept starving, and I got fat!")

The funny part is I really did use a lot of water during the past couple weeks.  It took 3-4 loads in the dish washer just to get my new dishes washed.  I used quite a bit of water doing the tiling and clean up.  I ran a lot of water after I unclogged the drain etc.  I won't be able to do a wash a thon tonight because I have to go to a marathon city council meeting, but they aren't coming until Thursday.  Plenty of time to use water.  I'm sure they'll just charge me the minimum.  That's what I normally use

I feel terrible.  This just jogged my memory cells that I have a message from MattH I should have delivered on his birthday.  I copied and sent him all the birthday messages he missed.  He asked me to please express how much he appreciated them and how they made his day special.

That was nice of you.  Is there any way he might come back?

Since he didn't stop in on his birthday I doubt it.  He was very happy to see all his birthday greetings and enjoyed them very much.  You can still go on his member page and email him.

I have not abdicated from HHW.  Been reading BK's notes each morning when I rise.  But. . .we have Mum's 60th Year Reunion this Friday, and I have been swamped with work from that.  Plus, one of her classmates is spending her time her following her flight in last Tuesday from Wisconsin.  She has been diagnosed as having the first stages of Alzheimer's, so I am watching over TWO semi-invalids for God knows how long.  The day that she arrived, I also had a dental appointment in the morning, then her plane came in at the height of rush hour, and guess who was the designated pick-up person?  Right.  Before leaving for the dentist that morning, Borders called and said that I was on the schedule and close to an hour late in getting to work.  BUT, one the posted schedule, I wad NOT on the schedule, but only on the schedule in the store manager's computer.  She later admitted that she was in error as Tuesday has always been the one day that I cannot give them, since we set that day aside (when I was first hired) to enable doctor visits and such for Mum, or myself if necessary.

Now, today, after work, I did have a necessary dr's appointment.  I won't know anything for a while, but, my g.p, believes that I have diverticulitis and has ordered blood work and a CAT scan.  She certainly knows now that I have high blood pressure and she has prescribed the necessary drugs.  We will see how that works out when I have my follow-up visit in a month (if the blood work and scan don't make it necessary for me to see her sooner).

That's my story.

And now, I'm off to home.  I took my cat to the vet today.  Her claws have been growing into her pads a bit and my clipper can't get underneath...and she won't let me try...AND the infection is back. :P They gave me more antibiotics and some stuff for the infection that's different than what I'd had before.  Hopefully, this will fix it once and for all.

Tonight, I need to work on a cover letter and resumé.  I found a couple of websites that have sample letters and resumés and they seem fairly simple.  I've never done either.  We'll see how it goes!

Until later!

I recall seeing him in a local L.A. 99-seat production many years ago of DON JUAN IN HELL.

My client, Henry Darrow, played Don Juan.  I don' remember which of the other 2 male parts Gould did, nor do I recall who else was in that production, which was staged in the San Fernando Valley.

Does anybody know the production I'm talking about?

The final day of auditions went well. And fast.

We only ended up having two groups of auditionees this morning - there were quite a number of cancellations due to various reasons. So I was done by 11:30 instead of 1:00.  However, the quality level overall of the actors, singers and actor/singers was quite good. The Dud Factor was very low over the past two days.

One young woman totally knocked "And I Am Telling You..." (Dreamgirls) Out Of The Park!!!

I always get a little wary whenever someone places that music in front of me, and this time was no exception. But right after I hit the first chord and she started, I could tell that this time was going to be different. And it was!

Just heard from Alet - hubby Andy is on his way to pick up music and CDs.

You can tell Andy that I always watch his "Pink Fish" when I need to be cheered up.  :)

I love to watch Andy's Pink Fish.
In fact, I think I shall watch Pink Fish right now.

I just did.

Did you have fun, DR Jose?

Actually, I did.

Again, the quality level was quite good this time round.  There were a few stray clueless people, but no one made me angry or frustrated. And the variety of songs was quite wonderful. It was nice to see a bunch of lesser-known Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart tunes being put in front of me.

And if anyone has been following my Twitter and/or my Facebook feed, I've been eating extremely well here in Atlanta too. :)

Crazy long day. The work as an extra started at 11:30 a.m. with me sitting there with the rest until 2:30 when we actually got around to doing something, which was to move to another site. Oh well. I got paid to sit there and read the first 160 pages of "Elmer Gantry." And I got a free lunch that was quite good in the bargain. Smaller number of extras means a buffet with the likes of fried chicken, barbecue brisket and sausage, buttermilk pie and some good salads. My tummy was happy, even if we did sit around outside in 90+ weather.

Oh, and I didn't even get in the scene. I was one of those who walked in the background outside of the restaurant in which the scene was being shot. It took seven takes and we were done by 4:30, but we got a full day's pay. I like that kind of work.

Any particular lesser-known Porter or R&Hart stick out in your mind?

Let me sleep on that. Literally.  -Right now, my head is still reeling - in a good way - from some deviled eggs, "The 10:00 Burger", and a Peach Fried Pie. :)

No.

-Which is a good thing since the arrangement in the Musical Theatre Anthology, well... Sucks.  I still prefer playing from the "pop version" that appeared in a now out-of-print Marvin Hamlisch anthology.

I've been enabled. Or maybe I'm enabling. I'm not sure, but there's some seriously good food being had here in the ATL.

And The Song Of The Day Is:  DO I LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL?

That was sung yesterday.  ;)

-And whenever I do play that song at an audition, I'm always reminded just how much I love that song.

Well, I'd say it's been a team effort.

td, I'm surprised you didn't comment on SHADOW OF THE WIND.

I've not read it. . .but, it sounds an awful lot like THE CLUB DUMAS.
ANGEL'S GAME is highly recommended by others to me, at work.

I think I know people in THE CLUB DUMAS. Or maybe it's the CLUB DUMBASS...

"I would like to do a number from my soon-to-be-produced musical based on VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA".  The song is called "Dive, Dive, My Darling" and it goes like this..."

OH! That's where that song is from.  I didn't recognize it when I played it earlier today.

;)

So...

Will the upcoming TV movie based on your most recent events be a comedy or a more of a "Lifetime" affair?
