Well, you've read the notes, the notes had TLC, which is more than I can say, and now it is time for you to post until the TLC (Those Little Cows) come home.

And the word of the day is: BROBDINGNAGIAN!

And now - Dino at the piano.

DR Jane, I have yet to hear a peep out of any of my neighbors. These walls and floors are very, very thick. The only noise I hear is the traffic outside.
-
Best of vibes for a safe and comfortable trip, BK! Have fun!

Vibes for your trip BK ~~~~~

SB rehearsal was good tonight. We did two of the other major ensemble numbers and continued to work on "Let's Have Lunch". We did see the double bar at the end!!! However, getting there was iffy. Tomorrow, we'll do the guys number (The Lady's Paying - my favorite) and the woman's number (A Little Suffering), and we'll do more work on "Let's Have Lunch". Because the actress playing Norma is a AEA member, we won't see her until Oct 4. We are trying to make our schedules work so her and I can get a lot of the more difficult things done before she comes in.
And now, to bed.
-
I couldn't sleep and noticed how bright the moon was coming in my window so I got up and looked out and there it was...Jupiter. How cool. I thought I'd have to go out in the country to see it, but it's so bright I can see it from my house
-
My new neighbor wants to build a garage in a place where there really isn't room for a garage. He'll probably have to get a variance to do it. Tonight I was looking out and if he does it my view will be totally cut off, which in my opinion will effect my property value. I'm going to find out if he's applied for the permit and variance yet and what I have to do to object. One other neighbor is planning to object to a variance. I think i will too. He says it will be tasteful, but he's got the place looking pretty junky with the way he parks cars willy nilly in the grass etc.
-
MBarnum - I lived in a condo once that had thick walls like that and I don't think i ever heard my neighbors unless they were outside making noise. Hope you have the same experience. It makes living in a complex really quite nice
-
Well, I haven't been able to sleep, but better try again. Morning will come early. I actually got up to look at the city building code. The whole building thing started going through my head. I'll make some phone calls tomorrow and see if I can find out what's going on
-

Ditto and ditto! I've even asked the several neighbors that I've had (the units on both sides of me are rentals) if they've ever heard me and they've all said that they haven't.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Congrats to our Dear VixMom.
We look forward to seeing you and Vicky on Friday.
-
Good morning, all! I have a visit to the McGlinnventory this morning. After that I will come back here and continue boxing up these cartons for Ohio. I would like to ship them out of here on Friday.
DR MBarnum, thanks for the apartment photos. I've slipped them under the door of the Oaf Above Me with a note that drug sales are good in Salem and that you were a pimp. This may lure him out of my building to elsewhere. I'm desperate. I think he's back. Someone was walking around at 4:30 this morning and that dog doesn't wear shoes.
DR vixmom, fantastic news! I am so happy for you.

Mr Peter Filichia answered my email RE: Never Too Late
"That's what I get for writing about a show I've never seen!
Thanks!
Where's the show being done? Maybe I can come see it.
best, PF"
I let him know that it was Greencastle Indiana....and that we closed on Saturday night and mentioned, of course, my close personal friends Larry Moore and Bruce Kimmel....also mentioned that MR BK is coming to NYC this week for a book signing.
"Oh! Sorry I missed it!
I adore both Larry and Bruce. Glad they got you to me.
You have an excellent point about kids moving back in with their parents. I can't see a newly married couple wanting to do it, but I guess it's possible.
Anyway, I hope I do get to see it one of these days.

My brush with greatness thanks to HHW.

Yes DR TCB, my "son in law" was drunk in that picture....he's actually quite a physical comedian and fun to work with. Of course he is only 17 years old....whew! Right now he is playing Joseph in the JATATD at Greencastle High School.... The girl who played my daughter is also only 17 years old and a senior at a neighboring high school - she is playing the lead in their production of PLAY ON next month.

It's very hot and humid today. Plenty of steam heat, so please don't shovel more coal on the boiler. :(

Wednesday morning greetings! We are packing up with the intent to be outta here close to the noon check-out time, have a nice lunch, and head to the airport. We're due back in Cincinnati, where it's hotter than Florida, around 6pm.

I used to but now all the record and DVD and book stores I'd immediately go to are gone - so only Joe Allen's.

I actually managed to be asleep by midnight, so I got a very nice night's sleep and would have slept even longer if not for a lot of large truck noise activity, which now, of course, seems to have magically stopped.
-

Are there any stores where vintage theater materials are sold? A place where a window card or poster for something like... oh, as an example... "Li'l Abner" might be procured?
-
I've read that if we watch the eastern sky just after sunset today we will have a skywatching treat. The nearly full moon will be rising just above the bright planet Jupiter and a somewhat dimmer Uranus.
You'll need binoculars if you hope to spot Uranus, though...it appears as a tiny bluish speck, too dim for the naked eye. So the coming celestial lineup is an excellent time to find that planet with binoculars or a small telescope, using Jupiter as a helpful guidepost.
You can now tell all your friends that "tonight, Uranus can't be seen without a telescope".

Back from delivering CDs. I fired up the laptop to make sure everything was updated for the trip, and got that disgusting mobile me sync alert - I clicked on what I thought we'd done last time I had this problem, but now all my updates and sync things from the last three weeks are gone from the laptop (if they were ever there) and the iPhone - they're still on the iMac, thankfully, so I'm waiting to "chat" with a mobile me expert so we can fix this damn thing again for the fourth time. Luckily, I still have the case number from last time.
-
"Chat" expert won't be on for another fifteen minutes or longer - it's so irritating that you can't call about this issue.

Well, this seems to be the year for me to be randomly chosen: first the nosy census, and now the gas company just knocked on the door to inform me that our gas line is going to be partially dug up and checked. I expect the jury summons any day now.
-
Still waiting but I've been thanked twice for my patience.

It must be something from the States cause I've never heard of it here and seriously doubt they would supply it.

I would hope that if a restaurant serves ranch dressing for salads, you could ask for a side of ranch, even if you don't have a salad.

Zip Line vibes for DR JOHNG
Did not get to go on the zip line. A friend I was with fell of a platform at the beginning and banged herself up really badly. She then passed out forcing us to tend to her needs rather than zip lining. Her husband escorted her in the ambulance while we followed. She's been released and all seems to be well. A rather different adventure from the one we set out on, but the outcome is all that is important here.
-

Probably no more than 3 feet, but it was also on a sort of slope and it was rocky. Joan has a knot on her arm and she thought she had a sprained wrist, but the wrist seems to be OK.
-
Sorry about your friend, JohnG.
It makes a much better story about falling off the zip-line if you leave out the part about "three feet."

Thank you, Laura. Sometimes accidents are just accidents, though, and they aren't pretty.

She can say that she fell down a cliff.
Really, I am sorry to hear about the accident. I'm glad to know she'll be ok. Wrist injuries are difficult. It affects so much of your daily living. I'm glad it wasn't broken.

I am pleased to report that my oncologist declared me to be 100% in remission - he was so pleased with what he saw (and didn't see) that he canceled my 6 month PET scan and said I don't need to come back for 6 months!

OK, major geekfest alert. I am very excited as today in the mail I got a promo copy of the Complete Works of J.S. Bach. This is a stupendous undertaking (Elmore at least probably knows about, maybe some others), and consists of 172 CDs plus various other items, all in a huge boxed set. I begin listening momentarily.

This is turning out to be quite the Farmer-intensive week. I'm helping this Professor author with her article and I just received a desperate email from Bruce Hershenson's site asking for clarification on some Farmer pics they have. Why do I never get paid for any of this? :)

I came home for lunch today and he was standing outside, so I told him I'd been thinking about it and if he built the garage where he told me he was going to that it would ruin my view and that my view added value to my property so he would be reducing the value of my property. So, if he needed a variance to do it, I would object to the granting of a variance. He went on about how creative they would be and it wouldn't interfere with my view. I told him it would have to be underground before it wouldn't ruin my view. He said he'd show me the plans if and when he gets to that point. He's had both neighbors tell him they will object now. He said it isn't part of this project. I'm glad I spoke my mind

Thanks Laura. It was a day of speaking up. As I drove to work I saw a sign advertising immigration and legal services. As I investigated who it is, I think it's someone who isn't a lawyer and isn't certified to provide immigration advice. So, I called ICE and asked if they investigate this sort of thing. They said yes. So I told them if they are legit I'm cool with it, but I'm concerned that it's not legit and will rip people off. It's only about 7 blocks from the immigration enforcement office so they said they'd go right down and check it out.
-
THE DEFENDERS will be interesting. I know one of the lawyers it's sort of modeled after. He represented Ms Hilton on her lastest wrist slapping
-
I spent over an hour with the mobil me people and he finally traced these ongoing problems to the way it was set up originally - not by me, of course. We redid everything from scratch and finally everything seems to be working all right now. Then I packed, ate a sandwich and onion rings (I was hungry!), then had to go to Gelson's to get she of the Evil Eye a bunch of supplies, then to the mail place where I picked up four count them four packages and now I'm back home waiting for girl three to pick up her music and CD. Girl four hasn't even responded to yesterday's Facebook message and I don't even have her real e-mail or phone. So, unless she gets to me tonight, I'm replacing her when I get back - I do not need people who are flaky.

Actually I think the seminar will be quite interesting. We're taking a walking tour and will see and discuss various damage to old buildings and how to repair it. My mom owns my brother's office building. It's a very old building and needs work on the brick etc. I'll be able to give the advice....of course they won't take advice from me, but that won't stop me from giving it ;)

Yesterday I told a judge I wasn't doing many criminal cases anymore....today I had calls about 3-4 new criminal cases and have been retained on 2 of them. Funny how that works.

I told him it would have to be underground before it wouldn't ruin my view. He said he'd show me the plans if and when he gets to that point. He's had both neighbors tell him they will object now. He said it isn't part of this project. I'm glad I spoke my mind
Good for you for stating your position. I'm sure you were nice about it. I laughed when you said the garage needed to be underground. :) What is "this project"?
He's replacing all his siding, the roof (with a purple metal roof) took off all the deck and is replacing and adding on etc....
-
I'll think of you as we discuss the difference between lime based mortar and portland cement
I was on that jury, Cillaliz!
So you understand that Mortar Matters~!

Back from a two and a half mile jog and wondering how we're still on page five. Get me off this damn page. I think I can finally sit on my couch like so much fish and relax. Don't know if I'm in the mood for a movie or not, but there's plenty to choose from.

Greeting from Ohio! Thanks to DRs Elmore, George, Laura, Jane, and MBarnum for the travel vibes. They worked like a charm - smooth car rental return, smooth flight, smooth car pick-up at CVG, smooth drive home.
-
OK, major geekfest alert.
Sounds wonderful.

Oh no. So many times a person applies and gets approval for something moderate & tasteful & and then builds whatever.

I think he comment "creative" is the key word here. I'm not sure I would trust someone who put a purple roof on their house. ;D For your sake I hope it looks better than it sounds.

DR Jane re: your flu shot
Is it a bit early or are they starting many places in the US this early?
They have been giving them for awhile now. I think anytime around back to school time is good. I know DR Laura got hers. Has anyone else? This year it will protect against three different flu viruses, including H1N1.
I don't think they usually start them here till nov/dec. There definitely has been no mention of them yet. Although last year was particularly crazy with everyone getting the swine flu.
-
Well, there's one good thing about getting to work earlier (which I've been doing since, you know, I'm applying for a new job) is that I get to leave earlier. Now if I would also go to bed earlier, it'd all balance out.
;)
Until later!
-
I've been watching GET HIM TO THE GREEK to prepare for the review I must get out by tomorrow. I must say, against all odds, I'm loving it. I just laughed out loud during the Today Show segment with Meredith Veira (sp?) and Paul Krugman. Paul Krugman!!

DR GINNY is home - great news.
And MR BK is on the cusp of travel.....and I believe DR DRUXY is headed for Chicago that toddlin' town this weekend.
-
Is DR JOSE traveling?

Thank you, DR John G! Sorry to hear about your friend's mishap - hope she's OK.

From the Center for Disease Control:
Yearly flu vaccination should begin in September or as soon as vaccine is available and continue throughout the influenza season, into December, January, and beyond. This is because the timing and duration of influenza seasons vary. While influenza outbreaks can happen as early as October, most of the time influenza activity peaks in January or later.

Welcome home, Ginny.
It is getting windy here. Maybe we'll get a storm tonight. That would be nice.
-
BK--is there room for one more at Joe Allen's Friday night? I'm going to New York!

More interview vibes for DR GRORGE.
THANKS JNAND!!

I take it that Jnand is the middle-eastern spelling of his name?

THANKS JNAND!!
;)

Read "deeper", Missy Karen. See what inspired the spelling! :D
I just assumed that Grorge was the Viking or possibly Celtic spelling for DR George ...
(how's that for a cover story and I'm sticking to it, DR ROONIK -- possibly Polish for Ronnie --why I oughta...where's my ACME anvil)

Exciting news Kevin-have fun!

Page Six Doris Day Dance. ;D
-
DR JMK - where will the professor's article be published......
-
Kevin, of course there will be room - so happy you're coming!
-
Doris Day is very young there. I truly admire the work she did for animal rights. She was one of the first to make a difference.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon! Good Evening!
I'm up, I'm up... And, well... You get the point.
-
I watched half a movie and am now just relaxing at the computer. I'll shave around nine, and then get to bed. I'm hoping the master for our new release is ready by then so I can get the audio samples to the web guy, but if not I suppose I can do that from NY on my laptop.
-
And now that I've caught up... And watched tonight's "Top Chef: DC - Reunion" at the same time...
-
Is DR JOSE traveling?
Nope. The only traveling I did today, DR JRand was down to Columbus Circle and back on the D Train. Although, I hopped on the train downtown this morning at 7:15am, and hopped on the train back uptown at 9:00pm. In the meantime...
-
This morning I headed down to Lincoln Center for this morning's open rehearsal of the New York Philharmonic. It was/is their Opening Day - and their Opening Day concert is currently being broadcast on PBS, and is schedule to be rebroadcast a few times this weekend. (Check your local listings.)
After waiting in line with my friend, Brendan*, we headed into Avery Fisher Hall, and over the course of three hours we were treated to some mighty fine music-making and music.
The first half consisted of the "Swing Symphony" by Wynton Marsalis. It's a composition for Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band/Orchestra. -And Wynton Marsalis himself happened to be playing too! In short: I loved it. It's basically a History of Jazz told through five movements of music. There is some pretty skillful writing and orchestration, as well as some "room" for improvisation. The piece was originally premiered back in June in London with Simon Rattle, and a sixth movement has been trimmed since then. -Guess I have some investigating to do. ;)
The rest of the program was filled out with works by Strauss ("Don Juan") and Hindemith ("Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl Maria von Weber") which continued to show off the high level of the Philharmonic and Maestro Gilbert's fine conducting. And, as always, I loved listening to things being worked out and during the rehearsal. I particularly enjoyed how Maestro Gilbert, Wynton Marsalis and Carlos Henriquez, the bass player for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, got the Phil players to SWING! And SWING they did!
-
*Brendan and I met at last year's Opening Day of the New York Philharmonic. Over the course of the past year, we've become good friends. So, today was also our Friendship Anniversary. :)
-
-And it was also a very special treat for me to hear my fellow VCU alum, Victor Goines, playing with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Go Rams! ;)
-
DR JRand - Yeah, for Peter Filichia! -Will you be printing out his response and putting up in the display case of the lobby of theatre? Or at least on the call board?
-
It's very hot and humid today. Plenty of steam heat, so please don't shovel more coal on the boiler. :(
Alas, after some refreshing cool days here in NYC, it seems that Summer returned earlier this afternoon. The temps creeped back into the mid-80s, and the humidity came back too. Indian Summer, I guess. Or global-warming. You pick. ;)
-
DR JohnG - I'm sorry to hear about your friend's mishap, but it's good to know that she's OK. Are there plans to reschedule the zip-lining for another day?
-
BK: Do you have any rituals when you hit NYC? Any stops you have to make first or something you have to do when you get there?
I used to but now all the record and DVD and book stores I'd immediately go to are gone - so only Joe Allen's.
Are there any stores where vintage theater materials are sold? A place where a window card or poster for something like... oh, as an example... "Li'l Abner" might be procured?
Triton Gallery (http://www.broadwayposters.com/) is still around. Alas, they no longer have their ground floor storefront, but they're still in the poster and window-card business.
-
And it looks like Triton Gallery only has L'il Abner available as a full-color reproduction at this time.
-
Jose, will you be going to Governor's Island on Saturday for the Vendy Awards?
Yes! I will be donning my Big Gay Ice Cream Truck (http://www.biggayicecreamtruck.com/) t-shirt, and helping out Doug and Bryan dish out variously topped soft-serve goodies.
There's a pretty good line-up of trucks this year, including three "guest trucks" from Philly. Hopefully, I'll be able to sample most of the food being offered on Saturday at The Vendys (http://streetvendor.org/vendys/). It's going to be a long day, but, undoubtedly a delicious one!
-
Well, this seems to be the year for me to be randomly chosen: first the nosy census, and now the gas company just knocked on the door to inform me that our gas line is going to be partially dug up and checked. I expect the jury summons any day now.
Or another visit from the Game Warden?
-
I have never tried fries with ranch dressing. In fact I've never even seen them served together. Is this common?
I've never been to a place where you're automatically given ranch with your fries, but it's very common for people to ask for it. You should try it! :)
It must be something from the States cause I've never heard of it here and seriously doubt they would supply it.
I would hope that if a restaurant serves ranch dressing for salads, you could ask for a side of ranch, even if you don't have a salad.
DR Jennifer - The whole Ranch Dressing with fries thing has been going on here - in the States, at least - ever since Hidden Valley bottled up their Ranch Dressing and started selling it grocery stores. -Although, I believe the powdered mix came first. In any case...
It's just a dip. I'm sure, as DR George already stated, if you asked for it in a restaurant, they would be more than happy to oblige.
-Do your local restaurants serve Buffalo Wings with Bleu Cheese and/or Ranch Dressing?
-
I just had to show this cake to Keith. We both want to try it!!! :) Thanks DR Jose.
You're welcome, DR Jane.

Which label is this out on? -There seem to be a whole bunch of mega-boxed-sets of Complete Work of Whomever coming out right now.
-
Jose I enjoyed your blog about City Cafe diner.
Thank You, again, DR Jane.
*And I believe the City Cafe Diner ships whole cakes. ;D
-
DR Jane re: your flu shot
Is it a bit early or are they starting many places in the US this early?
Technically speaking, a flu vaccine - maybe not "the" vaccine for the year - is available year-round. There is just more of it made for the "season". Some localities went ahead and included the flu vaccine in the regular beginning-of-the-school-year inoculations.
-
Give 'em hell, DR Cillaliz!
-
If dear reader RLP is looking for a Li'l Abner poster or window card from the film version, they're all over eBay and VERY inexpensive.
-
So is there a connection between the Sondheim song I'M STILL HERE and the movie I'M STILL HERE?
-
And then...
I saw the one-man show, Absolution (http://www.59e59.org/shows/Absolution.html) at 50E59 (http://59e59.org/). It's a good show, but... Whoa! Most definitely not a light entertainment. Not by a long shot. Not by a very long shot.
-
So is there a connection between the Sondheim song I'M STILL HERE and the movie I'M STILL HERE?

*And I can't wait to see Joaquin Phoenix's follow-up visit to Letterman tonight.
