Good morning, all! I don't have to be at the McGlinnventory until 9:30 this morning so I slept in a bit. Around 5:30 am the Oaf Above Me certainly had a lot of activity. I suspect it has to do with the dog's wanting to go out, but it's damned noisy.
I have a date with Mr Skip Kennon today to edit some Victor Herbert after the McGlinnventory. On my way back here, I need to stop at Verizon and put some money into my cell phone account. I'll follow that up with some inquiries into readiness for the next recording sessions beginning on Oct 2.

I'm off to Chicago first thing tomorrow morning to do the Hollywood Celebrities Show on Saturday and Sunday. Home on Monday.
If anybody on this board is in the area, come on over to the event, held at the Hilton/Rosemont Hotel (close to O'Hare airport), and say "Hello".
-
Hello from the airport. The security line was the longest I've ever seen. At five thirty in the morning! Got through fine, went to the gate to find a gate change. So I'm at the new gate now. Thirty minutes before boarding and not a Jet Blue person in sight.
-
re: the discussion about fries and ranch dressing.
Honestly here I don't even know if ranch dressing is usually an option with your salad. I don't eat salad out that often. And if i do there is usually the house dressing.
Re: DR Jose's question whether chicken wings are served with ranch dressing. There are not that many restaurants here that I've been to that serve chicken wings. And I"m not sure what the dressing they serve is. But let's just say that I do not believe that ranch dressing and wings are very popular here (I've never heard of them being a popular combo).

I won't be taking my laptop with me, so unless I can get on a computer in the hotel lobby, I'll probably be off the board until late Monday or early Tuesday.

Have any of you who work in any sort of print or online media ever heard of a publication requiring a 2400 dpi scan for a photo? It just seems absurdly high to me.

The girls go in for their shots this afternoon. I told them I got mine last Saturday. (my flu shot) They didn't seem to be too impressed. So we will have drama on the way to the vet, I'm sure. Tonight I'm going to be home watching Grey's Anatomy so I'll be there if either one has any problems with the shots. Boo has been getting sick a lot lately - too much. So, we'll get that checked too
-
DR JMK, I have always just scanned my photos for my interviews and sent them in. I haven't a clue as to what DPI they were, and none of the magazines have ever complained.

DR Jrand, I didn't watch the show before MODERN FAMILY. Guess I didn't miss much. I am thrilled to have MODERN FAMILY back on the air!!
Tonight is the new season of THE OFFICE and the premier of OUTSOURCED, which I am quite excited about. One of my Facebook friends is in it. He is quite a nice guy and very, very funny.
-
This Professor who is writing the Farmer article wants several pics from me and is insisting the publication (which is online) requires 2400 dpi. I think she meant 240 dpi, as every website I have worked for doesn't deal with anything over 300 dpi (and usually it's as low as 72 dpi). Plus, you need to compress photos that huge to email anyway. We shall see.

Greetings from Toyland! Mr Skip Kennon should be here around 1 pm and we will begin edits on the Harlequinade from THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER, a huge piece of music around 16 minutes long for Montgomery & Stone to be humorously tormented by Harlequin, Columbine and a bunch of cops and merchants conjured by by Cinderella's Fairy Godmother. We'll be on this piece for the next month, what with his schedule and mine.
Zak Stains joined us today at the McGlinnventory; he will be helping us with the next round of dividing, filing, shipping, etc.
My cell phone is out of money so as soon as I leave Toyland, I have to find a Verizon store.

Chicken wings are popular for the same reasons burgers, pizza and sandwiches are: They're food you eat with your hands. So, you won't find them at too many fork, knife and linen table cloth places (though the ones I had made with truffle oil were).
That said, they are usually available in San Antonio with a choice of either ranch or blue cheese (or both). And there are plenty of places that serve only wings (Buffalo Wild Wings and WingStop are the first two that come to mind).
I went to a chicken conference in Miami about 8 years ago, and the industry just loved the popularity in chicken wings because it gave them a market for a part of the bird that never sold before (only flavorless breast meat seems to sell).

"Criminal Minds" was a very tragic story last night. Creepy guest performance by Tim Curry.
That, plus the departure from the show of one of the regulars (another departs next week) signals change for "Criminal Minds" that may either energize the show or ruin it.

I think it was a fantastic example of a person committing game show suicide.
He tied the rope into a noose, threw it over a sturdy low-hanging branch and then was shocked to discover he had hanged himself.
I'm curious if those 2 girls (who they showed voted for him) changed their votes after hearing his tirade.
I was happy that Brenda was safe, since I really like her. I can't exactly figure out whey they wanted to vote off the strongest women first.
As for Shannon. They must have skipped some stuff because why would he ask "are you gay?" out of nowhere. It made no sense. But then to rant on about New York having a lot of gay people. Well he was just acting ignorant and I agree he hung himself.
-
Well, I did the zip line today. I feel more adrenaline zooming in my system now than I did during the four jumps and two trials. I really enjoyed hanging over the fields even if I never quite learned to brake properly.
By the way, looking at the platform that my friend fell off yesterday: I would say from her side it was about five feet and she fell downhill.

They asked a whole bunch of health-related questions before we went. Shoulder wasn't one of them, You had to be able to hold onto the lobster clasps and move your feet up to land on the various platforms. I didn't use my shoulders too much. Or at least that I noticed. But I would ask a doctor first probably.

Um, don't do that. It hurts and it's messy. M'kay?
-
JMK, this new house of yours seems to be full of ... uh,... exciting adventures?
Yeah, we'll go with that explanation. ;D
-
I did manage to "fill in" behind the new toilet tank so that wall looks faboo. There had been a tiny scratch on one of the walls by the stairs leading up to the master, and I *think* I chose the right color from the paint left in the garage, but I won't know for certain until it dries. This house has "twisty, windy" stairs, each flight with two landings, and I hadn't realized I was at the lip of one of the landings when I stepped back to review my paint job. The assymetrical angles of this house were one of the first things that really attracted us to it--there aren't any "square" rooms.
-
I am a bit miffed at Bruce Hershenson. He had a staffer email me a bunch o' pics that they needed IDs on, all of which I provided them. I simply asked that they send the scans again with no watermarks on them for my time and trouble. Needless to say, they didn't. Bad way to treat a customer, especially one you're coming to for help.
-
In other news, against my wildest pre-conceptions, I highly recommend GET HIM TO THE GREEK. It's lewd, crude and in extremely poor taste, but it's laugh out loud hilarious.
-
Thanks JohnG. My physical therapist said I could not zip line, but that is because he has only seen the type where you hang from your arms. He said I might be able to do it in a harness like you had.

Tonight I watched The Girl Who Played With Fire. It's one of the movies I bought on eBay. I really enjoyed it. I'm going to wait awhile before watching the last movie. Just to delay the end of the series a little while
I'm glad you liked it. I'm waiting until the third movie is released since Keith hasn't read the books.
I kept wondering what it would be like if I hadn't read the book. I think it may have been better, much more suspenseful

This afternoon we had a huge downpour with lots of wind.....right when I was taking the cats out of the house, into the car, to the vet, and back. They were not the least bit amused. They howled the entire way. I was amazed at my patience. They now have their shots and the doctor said to quit giving Boo the brand of treats I'm using and she may quit throwing up.

Gosh that zip lining looks like fun. I would love to do that!
-
DR Jane how strong is your shoulder now? I'm guessing that if it is still fairly weak that you would not be able to zip line. Otherwise you could risk hurting it again. I would think you would have to have a fair amount of strength in your upper body and arms. But I guess you should ask your doctor if you are seriously considering it.

I walked into the movie wondering how they were going to handle the police officer with the "lesbian Satanists" fixation and was surprised (and pleased) to see that he had been completely eliminated. I loved him in the book. I think he would have been too fatuous and comical on screen.

Thanks JohnG. My physical therapist said I could not zip line, but that is because he has only seen the type where you hang from your arms. He said I might be able to do it in a harness like you had.
Might be able to? How exactly do you find out if you can do it since once you're on the thing I doubt they let you off! :)
Quite true. And the platforms are so high that climbing down is really not a viable option.
-
Gosh that zip lining looks like fun. I would love to do that!
It was great fun. My excess adrenaline has finally dissipated 4 and a half hours after doing it.
-
Tonight I watched The Girl Who Played With Fire.
I'm sure. It had been a long time between my reading the first book and watching the movie which really helped keep up the level of suspense.

Poor you and the babies. OK, I had to laugh at the simple solution to the problem. VIBES IT TRULY IS A SIMPLE SOLUTION!!

Strong‽‽ My entire upper body strength is pathetic. The therapist said it has nothing to do with strength, that I can never ever hang on to anything with the arm above my head because the artificial ball in my shoulder can't do it.
-

LOL, that might be a problem. I think I can discuss it first, if I ever get the chance to go. Of course I wouldn't even attempt it if I didn't feel comfortable with the person giving the answers & assisting me.

I'm already forgetting stuff in the book. I would not have missed this at all. ;D

Damn! I have misplaced a necessary document and I have no idea where the hell I put it. I'm hoping it's at Toyland since i really cannot find it here. I will have to ask the Library of Cngress for another copy and I hate admitting that I've lost something important.

Let's all send a prayer to St. Anthony that DR elmore finds his document.

OK...
I've drank a couple of glasses of water.
I've eaten some food: a nice wedge of spanakopita and a "roll" of galaktoboureko.
And I've caught up on the posts.
So...

Only if I had stacked them one on top of the other.

DR John G. - Great pics! WHEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't walking down steps with paint. I was painting the wall next to some steps. No way to do that without the paint can being open. :) My mistake was stepping back to see my paint job without realizing I was right at the lip of the landing.

Galaktobureuko is paradise in pastry form. It's temptation. It's seduction. It's surrender. It's all that and more.

I almost just fell down one of the many flights of steps in this house with a nearly full, open can o' paint. That was too close for comfort.
Well, the next time you actually do fall down a flight of steps with an open can of paint, just make sure someone is filming it. That set-up just screams "YouTube Viral Video".
;D
-
JMK, this new house of yours seems to be full of ... uh,... exciting adventures?
Well, just as long as flies don't start mysteriously appearing in the interior rooms and blood starts seeping from the basement walls, he should be fine.

DR Jennifer - As for chicken wings: Do chains such at TGI Friday's or Applebee's not "exist" in Canada?

Well, I had already thought about that as the solution and brought it up to the vet. She just agreed

bk - I'm glad you made it into Manhattan without hitting any of the crazy snarls that started popping up during rush hour.

This is what happens when it is a slow news day.
DR MBarnum - Um... There was no grandfather in that picture.

So...
A friend of mine called me up yesterday since he was in need of a pianist for an audition he had this morning. Well, it was more like a "hearing" - he was singing for an agent in the hopes of getting representation. He had rattled off a list of songs that he had prepared, and it was all stuff that I had played before. So, we planned a brief rehearsal for this morning before heading to the agent's office. Well..
He had mentioned that he was singing "Ich grolle nicht" from Schumann's song cycle, "Dichterliebe". After running through two arias, we started on the Schumann. Well...
He opened his music, and instead of "Ich grolle nicht", he placed "Im wunderschönen Monat Mai" in front of me - the first song of the cycle. Hmmm... OK. We went through it. Then went on to the second song of the cycle... Then the third... -It turned out he had prepared the WHOLE song cycle and not just "Ich grolle nicht". And that's when I stopped breathing. I guess I should mention that the agent used to be a concert pianist, so...
After I had explained to him that the last time I had played through the whole cycle was about 15 years ago, we went ahead and selected five of them to present for the agent. -I mean, this was just a "hearing", not a recital.
We then headed up to the agent's apartment/office, and she asked to hear the Mozart aria first, "Dalla sua pace". Then the aria from "Le Roi d'Ys".
"That's all I really need to hear today. That was wonderful."
...And that's when I started breathing again.
Whew!
:)

Back with six bags of chocolate Twizzlers to send home, toothpaste, and a few other incidentals. I absolutely love this hotel.

Do they not have Chocolate Twizzlers in Los Angeles? Have you checked at Target?

DR Jose, had you at some point mentioned the internet cooking show DOIN' IT WITH ETHAN?
It sounds very familiar. Anyway, here is the latest segment featuring OUTSOURCED cast member Parvesh Cheena (who is such a nice guy).
It is rather amusing: http://doinitwithethan.com/celebrity-interview/parvesh-cheena-is-doin-it-with-ethan/ (http://doinitwithethan.com/celebrity-interview/parvesh-cheena-is-doin-it-with-ethan/)
DR MBarnum - Hmm, I don't recall ever mentioning "Doin' it with Ethan". At least not it terms of an internet series.

Um, 2400dpi is definitely beyond what's normally asked for. The only time someone would usually for something that "detailed" would be if they were going to blow up the pictures to large format. -Are posters involved? Or will it be for a cover of "W"? ;)
-
Oh... I guess Facebook was out for a couple of hours earlier today...

JR, the season premiere of Big Bang is tonight at 8pm on CBS
It was nice to see "Blossom" back on TV again! ;)

The Joe Allen's list is BK, Ben and Anthony, FJL, Jose, Julie, KevinH, Larry, Vixmom, Vixter, and a possibility of Noel making it 10 people with a possibility of 11.
Noel - Just let me know by noon that day whether you can make it . We should be fine as long as we have the exact count for me to call in around noon.
DR FJL - Are we doing dinner? appetizers? snacks and drinks? -I need to plan my afternoon culinary trekking. ;)
-
Miss Myrtle-Belle has an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow. She is currently sitting on my lap purring.

Jose - I'm pretty sure everyone's planning on dinner at 8, based on the timing of BK at Drama Book Shop.

GOOD LUCK FINDING THE MISSING DOCUMENT DR ELMORE!

Gotcha. So, I'll hold off on the All-You-Can-Eat Fried Chicken Lunch until next week. ;)

While I was in the hospital my cell phone broke. Bryan had sent me an old phone of his so I was not without, however the SIM card did not transfer my info as I was promised it would. Recently I got a new phone and the SIM only transferred one phone number per person. :( The phone was also missing the main book of instructions. After over an hour on the phone with the nice person at T-Mobile I have spent another hour, at least, fixing my phone book. Now I have most the numbers in my phone book corrected, more questions to call T-Mobile about, and a very sore shoulder.
The shoulder is why I hadn't programed all my numbers into my phone. I'm sure there are numbers I'm missing too. Before I add more numbers I want to make sure I'm keeping this phone. Of course after what I just did I'm very worried the card won't transfer correctly again.

I don't know. Last time I was going to leave them, but they didn't have room for them.
-
Dr Howard, Dr Fine, Dr Howard - Myrtle Belle is waiting.
-
DR JOHN G thanks for the ZIP LINE pics!!! What fun! Scary.

Miss Myrtle-Belle has an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow. She is currently sitting on my lap purring.
Boo is recovering from the trauma of her adventure by sleeping soundly while curled up in my lap

DR MBARNUM the Gaggin Fambly foto was uncalled for.

Laura, I thought they had fewer kittens now. I fear if you keep her too long you will never want her to leave, not with that purr of her. ;)

So everyone must be at the New York HHW Do - hope the reading went well and we have photos.
And Exotica TOMORROW!! At Midnight!
-
Sounds like MR BK had a pleasant trip and is enjoying his temporary abode.
I did not watch BIG BANG THEORY - but thanks for the reminder DR BEN - I was watching last week's PWOJECT WUNWAY followed by the new PWOJECT WUNWAY......and I am hoping someone I really dislike is going home in the next ten minutes.

I just read Brooke Shields can still fit into her Calvins. I could never fit into pants I wore when I was fifteen, thank goodness.

Vibes for the director of Sunset Blvd!

I think Myrtle Belle should stay with you Laura.
-
Callie gets Benedryl with her shots, so, she's sleeping on a pillow on the couch

Benedryl will do that to you. I took half a pill last night and slept better than usual.

Cilla when did you put that funny quote up? I just noticed it.

A few days ago when they were voting in Afghanistan. Mom's next line was that she saw voting on TV and just assumed it was here. I guess she wasn't looking at the clothes the voters were wearing

Myrtle-Belle is highly adoptable. She won't be there but a couple of hours, I'm sure. And she will be happy wherever she goes.
Joshie got sent home all those many years ago because he growled at everyone at the Petco.

JRand, that photo was just for you! LOL!

I just finished watching a 1934 film called DEATH ON THE DIAMOND. It is about a killer who is bumping off members of the St. Louis Cardinals. I recorded it for a co-worker who is a huge Cardinals fan.
Watching this movie I came to realize how unfunny Ted Healy is and how beautiful Madge Evans was.
-
And that's all, folks. Have a good night. BK, I hope the bed in that beautiful hotel is also good for sleeping.
