Title: THE LAUNDRY LIST
Post by: bk on October 08, 2010, 12:34:38 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes aired their laundry in a list, and now it is time for you to post until the laundered cows come home.

It's Laundry Day and then dinner out and then we may watch something.

We have A Dance in the Music of Time and an Evelyn Waugh collection to watch.

We have a friend from Nottingham coming in for a visit and we shall spend all day Sunday with her.

Good morning, all! I slept an hour later this morning, and I have to be at Toyland shortly to await the arrival of Fed Ex. I dpn't see the delivery's occurrence before noon, and I've got a lot of music for the LADY OF THE SLIPPER edits to print and enlarge  on the photocopier while I'm waiting. Once the Fed Ex arrives, I have to call the lady who's expecting the shipment and she will come dwn, get the office keys I've made for her, and I will depart. At 4:30 I'm meeting with Alyce Mott who has this website: http://www.vherbert.com/

We will discuss the Herbert recordings I'm working on and anything else we think of. After that, I head home to fall over.

DR George, I hate firing people and I don't think it gets any easier with practice!

TOD:
DVD: Berg's operas LULU and WOZZECK, those damned Netflix discs
CD: The ENO Ring Cycle in English, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Verdi's AIDA

Good morning. Ouch. I'm really feeling puny today (that's my dad's description of feeling sick).  I've spent the last hour doing the Hot shower, saline mist, aleve, lots of water etc routine to try to feel better.  It's kind of working.  If I didn't have so much scheduled today, I'd probably just stay home.  Hopefully I'll rally, if not, I think I'll reschedule my afternoon

I was able to bike ride yesterday. But only for 40 minutes. And I broke that up by stopping at the library. I wanted to try and go since it had rained all day the day before.

It wasn't that bad. I rode much slower. I could feel i did not have as much energy. But I still wasn't too bad after.

It is raining again today. So i probably won't even get to go out at all.

I watched a film called ENIGMA last night.  It stars Kate Winslet among others.

I'd seen it once before, about 7-8 years ago, but except for the fact that it dealt with cracking the Nazi code during WW2, I remembered little about it.

It's a very good, low-key thriller with a couple of surprising plot twists.

If you enjoy this kind of film, I highly recommend it.

Unless something arrives via mail today, I have nothing new to watch, so I'll probably pick something "old" out of my library.

Last night I took two boxes of old towels and blankets to the Humane Society and then looked around at the cats and dogs.

As I was leaving one of the employees told me that they were already putting the blankets to use, so that was nice to hear.

If you have a Humane Society near you check out their website, they will often list items that are needed and you never know, it might be something you have been meaning to get rid of.

Greetings from Toyland!

I am doing several jobs today, most of them belonging to an office manager we no longer have because the Institute will not let us hire one. What I'm doing, beyond printing LADY OF THE SLIPPER edits and waiting for a Fed Ex delivery, is cleaning out the office of our wonderful, former office manager who left in May 2009, so that an employee of the Institute's California office can work here for some time.

It would be nice if the California office would provide us with tracking info, but we have no choice except to wait and hope it's on a truck.

Good morning! I'm still wrestling with Vampires and taxes. One webisode is approved and should go live shortly. The second one is basically approved but they're sending more episodes today so I will have more of a choice of footage. So I'll start on the third today, and when I take breaks, work on taxes. Either way, they both suck!

So of course, I'm doing neither, but reading HHW and just finished watching Edward Arnold and Frances Farmer in COME AND GET IT. I started wondering if Eddie Arnold was related to him. Edward did have a son; Edward Arnold Jr. who was also an actor. I looked him up; here are some of his roles:

1940 Holiday Inn
Second Dancer Ted Bumps Into (uncredited)

1940 The Quarterback
Fat Football Player (uncredited)

1939 Million Dollar Legs
Blimp Garrett

1938 Mr. Doodle Kicks Off
Football Player (uncredited)

1938 Little Tough Guy
Fat (uncredited)

1937 Life Begins in College
Husky (uncredited)

1937 Blazing Barriers
Percival Throckmorton 'Fats' Moody

Guess he was kind of a big guy...

I guess the non-blockbuster box office for THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG last Christmas pretty much put the last nail in the coffin for conventional animation for Disney for the near future.  The character designs for the upcoming TANGLED look like they were meant to be cel animated.  I wonder if at some point a decision was made to switch the production over to a GUI style.

They should take into account the subject matter. A girl's fairy tale about kissing frogs is not something that will attract a big audience.

Oh, Lord, what a day.  I got up and never even had time to come to this here site - my AOL account continues to send out virus links to people in my address book, so I spent a long time sending out e-mails to everyone in the address book to ignore those bad links.  Then the helper arrived and we did a couple of errands and whatnot and she packaged up some orders.  Then we went to storage to get the music for the next Gardenia show and were greeted with a whole stack of boxes that had toppled.  We removed the two boxes that were on the floor to find a huge wet spot, so there was obviously a leak during the rain.  Not good.  I don't know what kind of damage to those boxes that were on the floor in that section, or if the water damage went further back or to the sides.  We got the guy to come and look and this guy, who has been a total jerk on one other occasion (he's not the manager of the facility, just the employee), looked at it and basically said, "Yeah?  So?  What do you want me to do?"  We explained nicely that we have nothing but paper in the storage unit and therefore any water leak is NOT OUR PROBLEM OR OUR FAULT.  This seemed to enrage him.  He argued, he yelled, he told us to call the insurance company, he told us to call the corporate office, and then the nice fellow got to see a side of my that you never EVER want to see.  No one can yell louder, nastier, or longer than me when I'm pushed.  Both the helper and I told him that his attitude was outrageous, it was clearly the fault of Public Storage and that we wanted to move the stuff to another unit until the problem could be solved.  He refused to do ANYTHING!  I pulled the music I needed while the helper went to the office with him to insist he call the district manager immediately.

While he was speaking to the district manager he kept yelling at the helper, which was great, since the district manager could hear it all.  But the cell service to him was bad and the call was dropped.  We left a message and left.  We got him on the phone as we were driving home and he said as soon as he heard what this jerk was doing he headed over to the property.  We turned around and joined him there.  We told him everything, he saw the water damage, acknowledged instantly it was a problem of Public Storage and agreed we should move the stuff asap into another unit.  He asked if we could hire folks to do the move and I said yes - they'll credit me whatever it costs and I probably won't have to pay the next two months' rent.  I recommended they fire the jerk because they do not want someone like that representing Public Storage.  If there was enough water damage our unit and its contents could conceivably collapsed down into the unit below.

Back from the CR gym and the hematologist, who found nothing of concern in the blood work he'd ordered except a slight anemia.  Don't have to see him again for 6 months.

Thank you to DRs Dan (the Man), Jeanne, and PennyO for the vibes I found upon my return.

Bruce, so sorry to hear about the storage locker problems. It does sound like the district manager is doing all he can to fix a bad situation. Maybe you can negotiate an even better deal, now that you have the guy's ear. Sorry it happened, though.

I guess the non-blockbuster box office for THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG last Christmas pretty much put the last nail in the coffin for conventional animation for Disney for the near future.

They should take into account the subject matter. A girl's fairy tale about kissing frogs is not something that will attract a big audience.

I don't know about that. I've kissed a lot of frogs in my day and none were princes!

There were only three or four boxes of music ON the floor so we'll see how those are.  Hopefully it's not going to be awful, but if it is I will be filing a major claim with the Public Storage insurance company - I pay for insurance every month.  Meanwhile. we're meeting there at nine-thirty in the morning and they're giving me a 10x10 space, which they'll let me keep at my old 5x10 rate - so we'll see how that goes.

My house has been invaded for weeks by soldier bugs. Since they are considered "beneficials", we don't kill them but try to take them outside. I have no idea how they're getting in here but this same thing happened at the same time last year.

Seasonal allergy vibes to Cillaliz. I'm also affected by something right now; not sure what it is, but I'm trying not to let it get me sick!

I was a miserable mess this morning, but I took a very long hot shower, used my saline nasal mist, took an aleve for the pain and by about 9:00 i was feeling pretty good.  It didn't really come back and hit me again until late this afternoon.  I'm still better than I was and since it's 93 degrees out, I have on the ac which really helps the allergies

Boy, some of the crap I have tossed. I had receipts and booklets for DVDs and VCRs and TVs and other machinery that died and left this world years ago.

Finally found my birth certificate and SS card.

Also came across all of my adoption and veterinarian paperwork for Bosco, Freddy, and my previous cat Buford. I think I shall keep all of that stuff as it helps remind me of what years I had each pet.

TCB - it now depends on how long it takes to move the storage stuff to the new space - same floor and my helper is bringing two helpers so I'm hoping it won't take more than an hour or two.  The good thing about doing the move is that I will finally, for the first time since taking the space in October of 2001, be able to get into the boxes in the back - and I'm hoping I find some important stuff in those boxes.

Whether the Public Storage guy was having a bad day or not is not my problem.  My problem was simple - they had a leak and it was affecting my storage unit.  I am the customer.  The problem was his.  And yet, he would not acknowledge it, implied it was US somehow and kept asking what we wanted him to do about it?  And when we told him, he said he couldn't and wouldn't do anything.  I've made it quite clear to the district manager that this person is not someone they should have working for them - and he HEARD this man yelling so he knows we're not making it up.  I'll also be talking to the actual site manager when he returns on Monday and I'll also be talking to the corporate offices.  It takes a whole lot to push me to the place where I become really REALLY bad, and today he found out just how bad I can be.  I'm not one who always thinks the customer is always right - there are some really jerky and stupid customers, but in this instance the customer was absolutely right and was just trying to show what was going on and get stuff moved out of there.
