Well, you've read the notes, the notes aired their laundry in a list, and now it is time for you to post until the laundered cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MANA!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
It's Laundry Day and then dinner out and then we may watch something.
We have A Dance in the Music of Time and an Evelyn Waugh collection to watch.
We have a friend from Nottingham coming in for a visit and we shall spend all day Sunday with her.
-
We will also be attending the 10th Annual Miss Sobriety Drag Pageant on Saturday evening. A friend is involved. We've been going for the last 10 years and this is his last year as host so we will attend one more time.
-
Friday. Work day. Oh well.
-
Monkey and Pee Wee!
-
TOD:
DVD - Day Mars Invaded the Earth & The Cape Canaveral Monsters. Neither movie has much to recommend it....if anything.
-
DR MBARNUM would you like a copy of CYCLOPS and THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN on DVD?
-
DR DtM - I do have THE MIRACLE on a homegrown DVD now, but it is from the VHS so it's a Technirama movie in P/S.
-
Good morning, all! I slept an hour later this morning, and I have to be at Toyland shortly to await the arrival of Fed Ex. I dpn't see the delivery's occurrence before noon, and I've got a lot of music for the LADY OF THE SLIPPER edits to print and enlarge on the photocopier while I'm waiting. Once the Fed Ex arrives, I have to call the lady who's expecting the shipment and she will come dwn, get the office keys I've made for her, and I will depart. At 4:30 I'm meeting with Alyce Mott who has this website: http://www.vherbert.com/
We will discuss the Herbert recordings I'm working on and anything else we think of. After that, I head home to fall over.
DR George, I hate firing people and I don't think it gets any easier with practice!
TOD:
DVD: Berg's operas LULU and WOZZECK, those damned Netflix discs
CD: The ENO Ring Cycle in English, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Verdi's AIDA
VCR: Smut
-
Off to work. Oh well.
-
Good morning. Ouch. I'm really feeling puny today (that's my dad's description of feeling sick). I've spent the last hour doing the Hot shower, saline mist, aleve, lots of water etc routine to try to feel better. It's kind of working. If I didn't have so much scheduled today, I'd probably just stay home. Hopefully I'll rally, if not, I think I'll reschedule my afternoon
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm actually up and posting before 10:00am! ;)
-
They say it's morning, but I'm not so sure.

They say it's morning, but I'm not so sure.
"Oh what a beautiful... Umm... Hmmm... Er..."
-
As for the Friday Media Check...
Too many things still to watch on the DVR. Otherwise, more WQXR and WNYC than anything else.
-
And now it's time get ready to sit for four and half hours.
Laters...
-
Anyone have a cure for a runny nose?
At least my throat is not hurting too much (it felt a bit sore when I woke up yesterday).
-
I was able to bike ride yesterday. But only for 40 minutes. And I broke that up by stopping at the library. I wanted to try and go since it had rained all day the day before.
It wasn't that bad. I rode much slower. I could feel i did not have as much energy. But I still wasn't too bad after.
It is raining again today. So i probably won't even get to go out at all.
-
We will also be attending the 10th Annual Miss Sobriety Drag Pageant on Saturday evening.
I believe I have a song in that.
Great to wake up and happen upon three raves for three friends. Here's BK's:

-
I don't like rain. Especially when it rains all day. It just makes the day feel so dreary.
-
I watched a film called ENIGMA last night. It stars Kate Winslet among others.
I'd seen it once before, about 7-8 years ago, but except for the fact that it dealt with cracking the Nazi code during WW2, I remembered little about it.
It's a very good, low-key thriller with a couple of surprising plot twists.
If you enjoy this kind of film, I highly recommend it.
-
TOD:
Unless something arrives via mail today, I have nothing new to watch, so I'll probably pick something "old" out of my library.
I've received a notice from Amazon that the latest season of MEDIUM is on the way, but I don't expect it to arrive before I leave for Los Angeles next week.
-
And the word of the day is: MANA!
And The Song Of The Day Is: MAGIC TO DO
-
For those of you in the Los Angeles area, I hope you'll stop by my book signing on Sunday, October 17th.
It would be nice to meet some of you face-to-face.
The gala event will be held at 2pm at the Mystery and Imagination Bookshop on Brand Avenue in Glendale.
If you've been to BK's signings there, I'm sure you know where it is.

You know I would! LOL!

Oh, it's too close.

JRand, CAPE CANAVERAL MONSTERS does have ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE'S Scott Peters (Mac, the Marine) in a rare lead role, that alone made me buy the movie.

Here we go.

DR Vincent, hoping you find the perfect pooch...and be sure to post a photo of your new canine, when you find one!
-
Last night I took two boxes of old towels and blankets to the Humane Society and then looked around at the cats and dogs.
As I was leaving one of the employees told me that they were already putting the blankets to use, so that was nice to hear.
If you have a Humane Society near you check out their website, they will often list items that are needed and you never know, it might be something you have been meaning to get rid of.
-
I am taking a 3 day weekend in order to get the remainder of my unpacking done. I awoke at 5:30 am so am getting a nice, early start...well, once I get off the computer, anyway.
-
Friday morning greetings! Today I have session #17 of cardiac rehab, followed by another test results appointment with another specialist (hematologist). Let's hope HE releases me...
Thanks to DRs Laura, Vixmom, and Jose for the vibes they posted last night.
-
And I was very sad to learn that actress Aubrey Martin, who was featured in one of my all time favorite science fiction films THIS IS NOT A TEST passed away. I don't know when she passed, but it was not too long ago.
-
Release vibes for DR Ginny!!!!!!!!!
-
BK,The Lovely Wife and I just saw an ad for BEAUTY & THE BEAST on the telly and were bemoaning the fact that conventional animation has gone the way of the dinosaur and that we'd loved it so much.

Thank you, DR MBarnum!

Greetings from Toyland!
I am doing several jobs today, most of them belonging to an office manager we no longer have because the Institute will not let us hire one. What I'm doing, beyond printing LADY OF THE SLIPPER edits and waiting for a Fed Ex delivery, is cleaning out the office of our wonderful, former office manager who left in May 2009, so that an employee of the Institute's California office can work here for some time.
It would be nice if the California office would provide us with tracking info, but we have no choice except to wait and hope it's on a truck.

Good morning! I'm still wrestling with Vampires and taxes. One webisode is approved and should go live shortly. The second one is basically approved but they're sending more episodes today so I will have more of a choice of footage. So I'll start on the third today, and when I take breaks, work on taxes. Either way, they both suck!
-
So of course, I'm doing neither, but reading HHW and just finished watching Edward Arnold and Frances Farmer in COME AND GET IT. I started wondering if Eddie Arnold was related to him. Edward did have a son; Edward Arnold Jr. who was also an actor. I looked him up; here are some of his roles:
1940 Holiday Inn
Second Dancer Ted Bumps Into (uncredited)
1940 The Quarterback
Fat Football Player (uncredited)
1939 Million Dollar Legs
Blimp Garrett
1938 Mr. Doodle Kicks Off
Football Player (uncredited)
1938 Little Tough Guy
Fat (uncredited)
1937 Life Begins in College
Husky (uncredited)
1937 Blazing Barriers
Percival Throckmorton 'Fats' Moody
Guess he was kind of a big guy...

DR George---thank you for making all those South Pacific DVDs! I'm looking forward to sharing it with my mom. I had hoped to take her when we come to NY for the theatrical opening of JEWS AND BASEBALL, but since it's closed, this is the next best thing!
And we'll get to see PeeWee, like Monkey!
-
My house has been invaded for weeks by soldier bugs. Since they are considered "beneficials", we don't kill them but try to take them outside. I have no idea how they're getting in here but this same thing happened at the same time last year.

Thank you, DR Edi!

From DR Vincent:
I used to have fish, but I could never keep them alive, so I am about to get a dog. Something small and cute. I'll be visiting the local animal shelter shortly to see if one there catches my eye.
We will want photos. Best of luck finding your perfect dog!!!

DR Vixmom it is very possible the guy was just trying to give you a break on the price.

Unpacking vibes to MBARNUM.
Before leaving the East Coast, I had an egg crate foam pad I didn't want. My real estate agent, a real dog lover, asked if she could donate it to the local animal shelter for the arthritic dogs. Of course! It hadn't occurred to me that this might be something they could use.

I guess the non-blockbuster box office for THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG last Christmas pretty much put the last nail in the coffin for conventional animation for Disney for the near future. The character designs for the upcoming TANGLED look like they were meant to be cel animated. I wonder if at some point a decision was made to switch the production over to a GUI style.
-
Well, how long before we get THE BREAKFAST CLUB musical?

The Fed Ex has arrived. Now I'm waiting for the lady.

feel better vibes to Cilla and Ginny, and anyone else who is feelin' po'ly...
It's my sister Rikki's actual 60th b'day today - the celebrating hasn't stopped for the past 10 days, and more is coming this weekend and next. Sheesh... I'm dog sitting while she galivants.
Two big grant proposals due within the next two weeks... I'm procrastinating a bit. Never remember having the big ambition to write grant ap's and thank you notes, back in the day when I imagined what my life would be...

Elmo!! Let's have soup at Artie's very soon...

Off I go into this day... bye, all...

I guess the non-blockbuster box office for THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG last Christmas pretty much put the last nail in the coffin for conventional animation for Disney for the near future.
They should take into account the subject matter. A girl's fairy tale about kissing frogs is not something that will attract a big audience.

Oh, Lord, what a day. I got up and never even had time to come to this here site - my AOL account continues to send out virus links to people in my address book, so I spent a long time sending out e-mails to everyone in the address book to ignore those bad links. Then the helper arrived and we did a couple of errands and whatnot and she packaged up some orders. Then we went to storage to get the music for the next Gardenia show and were greeted with a whole stack of boxes that had toppled. We removed the two boxes that were on the floor to find a huge wet spot, so there was obviously a leak during the rain. Not good. I don't know what kind of damage to those boxes that were on the floor in that section, or if the water damage went further back or to the sides. We got the guy to come and look and this guy, who has been a total jerk on one other occasion (he's not the manager of the facility, just the employee), looked at it and basically said, "Yeah? So? What do you want me to do?" We explained nicely that we have nothing but paper in the storage unit and therefore any water leak is NOT OUR PROBLEM OR OUR FAULT. This seemed to enrage him. He argued, he yelled, he told us to call the insurance company, he told us to call the corporate office, and then the nice fellow got to see a side of my that you never EVER want to see. No one can yell louder, nastier, or longer than me when I'm pushed. Both the helper and I told him that his attitude was outrageous, it was clearly the fault of Public Storage and that we wanted to move the stuff to another unit until the problem could be solved. He refused to do ANYTHING! I pulled the music I needed while the helper went to the office with him to insist he call the district manager immediately.
While he was speaking to the district manager he kept yelling at the helper, which was great, since the district manager could hear it all. But the cell service to him was bad and the call was dropped. We left a message and left. We got him on the phone as we were driving home and he said as soon as he heard what this jerk was doing he headed over to the property. We turned around and joined him there. We told him everything, he saw the water damage, acknowledged instantly it was a problem of Public Storage and agreed we should move the stuff asap into another unit. He asked if we could hire folks to do the move and I said yes - they'll credit me whatever it costs and I probably won't have to pay the next two months' rent. I recommended they fire the jerk because they do not want someone like that representing Public Storage. If there was enough water damage our unit and its contents could conceivably collapsed down into the unit below.
-
I'm starving now, but I'm still annoyed at having to deal with such a putz - and I'm waiting for the call to tell us how the move will work.
-
Back from the CR gym and the hematologist, who found nothing of concern in the blood work he'd ordered except a slight anemia. Don't have to see him again for 6 months.
Thank you to DRs Dan (the Man), Jeanne, and PennyO for the vibes I found upon my return.
-
Bruce, so sorry to hear about the storage locker problems. It does sound like the district manager is doing all he can to fix a bad situation. Maybe you can negotiate an even better deal, now that you have the guy's ear. Sorry it happened, though.

Getting back to doggies and other pets, the USPS has some adopt-a-shelter-pet stamps that are REALLY CUTE!

BK, what an awful story! I hope none of the papers mildew or stick together, and if any of my orchestra parts are wet, the ink will run.
-
Shocking news from MR BK about the storage unit.
But certainly he knows by now that NOTHING is ANYBODY's fault!!!
-
The head of the BMV in Indiana is now under arrest for asking an undercover policeman if he would like to go someplace and do something while presenting his ID in the restroom.
-
There were only three or four boxes of music ON the floor so we'll see how those are. Hopefully it's not going to be awful, but if it is I will be filing a major claim with the Public Storage insurance company - I pay for insurance every month. Meanwhile. we're meeting there at nine-thirty in the morning and they're giving me a 10x10 space, which they'll let me keep at my old 5x10 rate - so we'll see how that goes.
-
I shall work on your DVD DR MBARNUM....thanks for the tip about the Humane Society.
Okay DR DtM.....that is probably for the best.....in several scenes in the P/S version of THE MIRACLE, Mr Roger Moore is incomplete.

Hammer Films PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES is on TCM tonight, and it is ONE of my favorite Zombie thrillers.....

I wish I could iron left handed. Fortunately I didn't have too much to do. I remembered to drop the height of the ironing board which helped some, but not enough to compensate for the pain in my back from bending forward.

Seasonal allergy vibes to Cillaliz. I'm also affected by something right now; not sure what it is, but I'm trying not to let it get me sick!
I was a miserable mess this morning, but I took a very long hot shower, used my saline nasal mist, took an aleve for the pain and by about 9:00 i was feeling pretty good. It didn't really come back and hit me again until late this afternoon. I'm still better than I was and since it's 93 degrees out, I have on the ac which really helps the allergies

93 in October......seriously, this is just not right.....93 degrees??? oh come on, it's fall...you know, that season where you put on a sweatshirt....

Tuesday Sherlock & I went to the hiking trails but skipped them on Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon I noticed my Bluetooth was missing & could not imagine what I did with it. Thursday I parked in my usual place at the trails. Just before beginning my hike I happened to look down and there was my Bluetooth right below the driver's door. I was thrilled to find it, and to find it in one piece. :D

Cilla Keith is really suffering with his sinuses too. I'm suffering but not as much as either of you, or I'm just used to it now. ;)

BK, if you go to the Hollywood Show, please tell Shirley Knight that you know someone who wishes that he could meet her face to face so that he could thank her for her incredible career; but especially for her performance in DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS. She was flawless!

I have made pretty good progress on the boxes. Buying the 4 drawer file cabinet at Goodwill was an excellent idea...sure helps keep track of and store stuff, I'll say.

I know. I must have dropped it on my lap before getting out of the car on Tuesday. At first I didn't know what was on the ground. I'm glad I gave it a good long look.

Boy, some of the crap I have tossed. I had receipts and booklets for DVDs and VCRs and TVs and other machinery that died and left this world years ago.
Finally found my birth certificate and SS card.
Also came across all of my adoption and veterinarian paperwork for Bosco, Freddy, and my previous cat Buford. I think I shall keep all of that stuff as it helps remind me of what years I had each pet.
-
Now I feel like a nap. I think I shall take one and then enjoy some motion picture enterainments later in the evening. No more unpacking for me, today.
-
TCB - it now depends on how long it takes to move the storage stuff to the new space - same floor and my helper is bringing two helpers so I'm hoping it won't take more than an hour or two. The good thing about doing the move is that I will finally, for the first time since taking the space in October of 2001, be able to get into the boxes in the back - and I'm hoping I find some important stuff in those boxes.
-
Finding important stuff vibes!!!
-
I'm tired. I've been working hard around here in preparation of a visit with good friends.
-
Sorry to hear about the stuff at storage bk, but at least you were able to get some resolution, and a bigger space will be nice. I hope you get to keep it! (We want to downsize ours...)
-
Welcome to page 5!
-
Well, all the DVDs have been mailed! Everyone should get them some time next week. Hopefully, there won't be any trouble with them.
And just remember...I collect key rings. ;)
-
Time to head home. In a little while, I'm going to see TAO's production of The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia? (http://www.olytheater.com/shows/currentproduction.htm) Friends who've seen it have said that it's fantastic.
Until later!
-
Sorry to hear about the storage problem, BK. Maybe it will turn out for the best since you'll have a larger storage unit.
-
BK--my Streisand pals are going to the Hollywood Collector's Show. If you see someone wearing a Barbra shirt, chances are it's my friend!

BK: That storage putz is a perfect example of a person who hates his job. He apparently feels his only function is to lease units and take money. "Responsibility" is, most sadly, a rare commodity in workers today.

Best wishes to all who read this.

I've had a very nice, productive (but not as much fun as BK's day) day off.
-
My mother just called. I said "hello". She said "you sound awful"
-
LOL, it's almost funny.

BK, hopefully that guy was just having a bad day. I can't believe he was screaming at you and the helper.

I just took an advil cold and sinus. Maybe it will make my nose stop running!

I am going to go watch MEDIUM, unless I fall asleep first.

Today I went to the river. But since Iphoto on my Mac freezes the computer, you shan't be seeing any photos.
We did find a beautiful viceroy butterfly, and then when I got home, I found a monarch caterpillar in my garden. I have the first (and so far only) confirmed monarch caterpillar in the Phoenix area.
Aren't you all thrilled?

Whether the Public Storage guy was having a bad day or not is not my problem. My problem was simple - they had a leak and it was affecting my storage unit. I am the customer. The problem was his. And yet, he would not acknowledge it, implied it was US somehow and kept asking what we wanted him to do about it? And when we told him, he said he couldn't and wouldn't do anything. I've made it quite clear to the district manager that this person is not someone they should have working for them - and he HEARD this man yelling so he knows we're not making it up. I'll also be talking to the actual site manager when he returns on Monday and I'll also be talking to the corporate offices. It takes a whole lot to push me to the place where I become really REALLY bad, and today he found out just how bad I can be. I'm not one who always thinks the customer is always right - there are some really jerky and stupid customers, but in this instance the customer was absolutely right and was just trying to show what was going on and get stuff moved out of there.

Has anyone read the new book Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue?

Took a short nap. Ate dinner. Watched PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES, which indeed was an enjoyable film, even if the continuity person took a few too many days off during production.
And I very much enjoyed the actress who played the lead. I don't believe I have ever seen her before.

Listening to music - so overtired right now and don't get to sleep in until Sunday.

Welcome eight GUESTS and zero regulars. What a revoltin' development this is. Perhaps one of the GUESTS will get me off this damn page.
