Well, you've read the notes, the notes were slight and crazed, and now it is time for you to post until the slightly crazed cows come home.

This morning I opened Google and this is what I saw

TOD:
Barnabas & Friends - a book about Dark Shadows
Big Lou - a biography of Louis Edmunds, it seems his nephew was the longtime partner of Mr Walter Bobbie

And now I am off to work, it seems.

"So let us begin anew—remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof. Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate. Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us."
JFK was course talking about the Soviets and the Americans - but I do wish that members of the Congress and all those talking heads on the TY would read these words of JFK and take them to heart

I recall loving the novelization of HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS.

Thanks for posting that post, vixmom.

Good morning, all! The Institute's wire transfer occurred last night as I'd hoped and I have money in the bank again, thank God. Not much, but I am no longer enormously overdrawn. Thank you all for the vibes and good wishes.
Last night I continued my IRS prep and tallied all of my office supplies and shipping charges. This evening I'll work on promotional items.
Today, I'm back to Toyland, and I will leave shortly. I have lots of work on Act One before I meet Mr Kennon at 1pm to work on the Appendix music.

I recall loving the novelization of HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS.
The movie was like 100 episodes of the tv show all jammed into 90 minutes.
-
re: the comments last night about the new Kathy Bates show HARRY'S LAW.
I recorded it but didn't get a chance to watch it. My mom loved it and I think it reminded her a lot of BOSTON LEGAL (a show I liked a lot).
-
It turns out that I am not working today after all.
Will you play in the snow?
I rad the Louis Edmonds book about a year or two ago; I was interested in CANDIDE and ERNEST IN LOVE and they were hardly mentioned. The book appeared to be primarily for DARK SHADOW fans, and I was never into the series. The person with great CANDIDE stories was the actor Conrad Bain, who played several roles including that of the Very Old Inquisitor. He loved the show and liked talking about it.
-
HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS SPOILER :) :) :)
I almost jumped out of my seat on "You betrayed me, Julia" - and IIRC, when we went back to watching the TV show the next day or so, everything seemed Ok, as if the movie hadn't happened.
-
I seem to recall bubble gum cards or some similar photo selection for DARK SHADOWS which I expected would be scary. But they all seemed to be shots of David Selby, at least in that group of fotos.

I'd like to see the two DARK SHADOWS movies. Grayson Hall was an acquaintance. I was fond of her, but we weren't friends. She was a good friend of my late friend Leonora Hayes, the wife of designer David Hayes who founded The National Theatre of the Deaf. Leonora died too young. Their son wrote a book about sailing around Cape Horn with David, MY OLD MAN AND THE SEA.

Seeing David Selby in "The Social Network" was a bit jarring. Didn't know which was scarier, him as a lawyer or him as a werewolf. (Sorry, Cilla.)

And good morning, all.

I enjoyed "My Old Man and the Sea," as I recall. Wasn't it supposed to be made into a movie at some point?

TOD: Stuff for classes: "The Craft of Research," "Dangerous Games: The Uses and Abuses of History," and "The Schools We Need and Why We Don't Have Them." I'm hoping to squeeze in David Sedaris' "Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk" to keep my sanity.

And I don't think I would want to smoke anything concupiscible. But maybe that's just me. Am having to take drug tests for prospective jobs. Wonder how it would register on the charts.

I'm reading The Lacuna. Don't love it-don't hate it. I'm about 1/2 way through. I have The Confession by John Grishom and Cutting for Stone waiting for me when I'm done. Of course I read all day, but that's work

I didn't get much sleep again. It's like something is bugging me, but I have no idea what it is. Probably just hormones keeping me awake

I recall loving the novelization of HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS.
I have actually seen that book before....
It is rumoured that there is a movie version in the works with Johnny Depp playing Barnabas.
I do recall the version from the early 1990s with Ben Cross as Barnabas. I felt the show never got a chance to really find an audience
On the subject of novelizations, a number of shows novelized their scripts inluding Days, Another World, Guidnig Light, ATWT and the Doctor Who Series
I have quite a few DW ones

Restful calm and sleep vibes for Cilla..

Thank you all for the good thoughts. Now, if I can keep it together for a few more hours. One way of killing time: Ironing the shirt I plan to wear.

I'm awake. Today will be mostly combining key 2 and key 3 for The Wedding Singer and creating the patch list so if I get to my other show early tonight, I can start programing my keyboard for a rehearsal (!) I just found out I had on Sunday evening. Oy and Vey

Has anyone hear heard of Tina Malia? I heard her on XM a while ago and got her CD on eBay. Fantastic, folky-rock stuff kind of like early Joni. Highly recommended.

My sister and I collected the DARK SHADOWS bubble gum cards. In fact, we collected two complete sets just so we could use one set to put together the huge poster of Barnabus that the reverse side of the cards revealed (and we scotch-taped it together, too--Oy!)

TOD:
As part of my continuing to empty my shelves of unread books, I am currently working my way through Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's GOOD OMENS. I tried reading this when it first came out and I'm having the same trouble with as I did the first time--I find that the book doesn't want so much to be read as it wants to be performed. Most of the dialogue carried out between the main two characters is like a cross between a Monty Python sketch and GODOT. I can appreciate it somewhat, but all this constant whimsy gets tiring after a while. But I am determined to finish it this time.
-
Has anyone hear heard of Tina Malia? I heard her on XM a while ago and got her CD on eBay. Fantastic, folky-rock stuff kind of like early Joni. Highly recommended.
So she sings flat, too?
-
Like DR FJL and DR DtM - I recall the Dark Shadows cards.....but I don't think we collected the whole set.
DR ELMORE I will work on your DVD next week.
-
I watched ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS which arrived at my house today....in the 2-Disk Roger Corman set.
The commentary was okay - and the good news is that now you can see the movie clearly.
The bad news is - as you may imagine - now you can see the movie clearly.
I will watch the other two films later today.
-
I never collected the "Dark Shadows" cards, but my brothers and I did collect the "Star Wars" ones. In fact, we had a couple of complete sets. I can still see the 7-11 in New London, CT, where we bought most of them. -And all of that bubble gum!
-Of course, they got thrown out in one of our moves. And, of course, some "mint condition" sets are now fetching a pretty penny on e-Bay and other places. Ah, well.
-
Joni never sang flat. And neither does Tina. :)
-
An attempt was made to save the Barnabus poster when we moved. My sister tried folding it into quarters and it sat that way for months in a box until she tried to unfold it. The results was unsatisfactory and it didn't fit in with her new black light bedroom decor so it was trashed.
I still have a few of the cards from our back-up collection, along with a number of the second series of cards that ubiquitously featured David Selby.
-
Umm...
And "American Idol" has definitely jumped the shark. Again. As well as derailed. Big time.

I'm home! Today's edits were a lot of fun. On my way downtown I stopped at the pharmacy for my meds, then I walked to the Juilliard Bookstore to pick up a score for Messiaen's QUARTET FOR THE END OF TIME.
I've got a few things to do before I start my tax tallies.

Back from Xeroxing, delivering, shipping, and picking up one package. Now I think I'll write a few pages.

From Dakota:
Picked up a new book on Northern Great Plains folklore and folkways. One of the authros I had as a professor for several classess over the years. I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my contributions to the folklore database he has used in the book.
I noted my name in the back of the list of collectors whose work he used.
Nice! :)

I never bought the Nook. I just tried it in the store. I have a Sony e-reader and I love it. It's very easy to use (it has a touch screen). It has wi-fi and it's easy to load books, categorize them and read them. I can make notes and there is a dictionary (there is more than one but I use the English dictionary). I can also play music if I want to (thought that uses more battery power).

Back from the interview. It was a little perfunctory, which means I think it went well. (I was told at the beginning it would only be 30 minutes and it was.) I should hear in a day or two.

I'm glad it went well, John G. Good luck!

I walked Sherlock earlier than usual this morning & kept it on the short side. Later I went to the Y with Keith and tried a gentle aquatics exercise class. It feels weird walking in a pool instead of swimming. ;)
I felt somewhat silly during much of it but the gentle exercises for my shoulder was my motivation for going & why I shall return. I swam for a little bit after the class. Next time I plan to swim before hand to warm up as I was cold. My shoulder moves better when it is warm. I found I needed to keep my shoulders moving when we were doing lower body exercises as the right one became stiff.

As I was leaving the gym, something seemed odd with my car - I stopped and got out, and LO!! a flat tire on the right rear wheel. Drat!! There was no fixing it - apparently, I had driven on it, all the way TO the gym, without noticing it was flat. Sheesh... So I had to buy a new tire - but met a very nice little guy at the tire store who told me stories of his Halloween at Universal Studios...
I'm picking up my friend - whose condo I live in, here in the Marina - tonight at 9:30 at LAX... then I'll be commuting thither and yon for about 10 days... such a little vagabond for the past 10 years... <sigh>

Hi Penny! Sorry about the tire, but sounds like you had an interesting time getting a new one

We're supposed to have a little snow tomorrow and then more Saturday afternoon and evening. I'm going to get up early Saturday and set up Edith's computer. I'm really jealous that she gets it, but hers is so much slower than mine and it will be nice to have hers in the conference room. I'm always leaving to look up the status of applications online for clients or their criminal history etc. This way I can stay in the room and show them what I'm finding. I like that better

I have all of the Dark Shadows books but none of the cards.
I remember both movies "House of Dark Shadows" and "Night of Dark Shadows". I jumped when Professor Stokes tried to bite someone (I can't remember who) in the woods toward the end of HODS. I wasn't expecting him to be a vampire because we never saw Barnabas bite him.

I've done nine pages today. And just had the call from Muse Margaret - she loved the rewritten pages and thought the little rewrites solved the problems she'd had with some of those pages. And she loved the new sixty and was very specific about what she loved, so that was great to hear. She said the funny stuff made her laugh out loud. She had two really minor things and I've already made those changes. So, onward.

I didn't get much sleep again. It's like something is bugging me, but I have no idea what it is. Probably just hormones keeping me awake
proabably just a nagging thought that what you really wanted .......
was a dog

No she never sings flat.....not even at :36 for a starter.

LOL!! No, I don't think that's it. I've been thinking a lot about adjustments to the business and whether or not to do them. I think that's it

It's true, DR CILLA LIZ - since she always sings the note that way.....maybe it's as written.
Ms Joni is a goddess of music to be sure.

I think I will watch THE BIG CIRCUS which arrived in the mail today.
There is NO commentary of WAR OF THE SATELLITES, which I thought would be the most interesting movie to comment on..... Tom Weaver has some neat things to say although the brothers on with him are IMDB obsessed.....would rather hear some new stuff, boys.

Speaking of...I love this song and I really like the way this woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HDXHQBbkxw) sings it. :D

Absolutely will catch up when I get home Saturday morn.
Have a 9am hair apt.
Which my head is in desperate need of.
And I only have to walk 2 blocks to get there. 8)

No crazed anything, no matter how busy our lives become. Or so that is my goal.
