Well, you've read the notes, the notes stayed too long at the fair, and now it is time for you to post until the fair cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INDIGN!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I await Anthony's awakening so that we may eat breakfast.
-
Good morning, all! I've put the laundry into the washers and I'm on my first cup of coffee. I really want to go back to bed for another couple of hours, but I am up and I am moving. Slowly.
I have little planned today: laundry, mopping, and tidying are the housekeeping chores; I have to finish typing my NYPL notes from Friday; and I've got some recording information from 2001 to get into order. I just got the American film remake of the Swedish film LET THE RIGHT ONE IN that I may watch this afternoon, and that's my big day.
DR Ben will be amused to know that I've got the Chad Mitchell Trio's "Barry's Boys" running through my mind.
-
AWAITING ANTHONY'S AWAKENING - sounds like the title of something
-
Good morning, all.
-
I envy you the Cole Porter book, BK. The whole book fair sounds like it was fun.
-
I played pinochle last night for the first time in months. Then went off to a place called the Hangin' Tree Saloon for a few hours of country music (and too much smoke). The music was provided by James Hand, a cowboy singer with a vibrato perfect for yodeling. He managed to stay sober through all three sets, which is quite a feat for him. The last time he was at this bar, he was so drunk he fell into the drum set.
-
"All That Chat" is down again! What is going on over there?
-
And the word of the day is: INDIGN!
And The Song Of The Day Is: UNWORTHY OF YOUR LOVE
-
Sunday......a bit of snow....but hopefully if the temperature reaches the promised 36 degrees, some of it will go away.
-
Congrats to MR BK on his book purchases.
Unless I find a special book at Goodwill - I can't afford it.
I did get a First Edition copy of ATLAS SHRUGGED at Half Price Books many years ago for $50....and I had a 15% off coupon so I got it for $35. Dust jacket is okay, but it is price clipped....and former library copy with a couple of stamps.....but it is a genuine first/first.
-
I think I will watch Mr PDQ Bach's opera - The Abduction of Figaro - which always makes me laugh.
-
DR JOSE did Pokemon get a callback?
-
I think I will watch Mr PDQ Bach's opera - The Abduction of Figaro - which always makes me laugh.
Indeedy!
I may do the same today.
-
Looking forward to the Super Bowel later today.
And then watching the football game.
-
I woke up thinking about Inception. Now that's strange....I do think I need to see it again to see if I followed all the layers the way I think I did. Does anyone know if there is a second disk with commentary? The one that came from Netflix had no specials on it.
-
I'm up and it looks like another pretty day outside.
-
I think my dreams were okay - nothing too odd.
-

Whoa! More coffee TCB. I was quite stunned to read that John G. said that he had played Pinocchio!
Ah makes more sense the second time. Even I haven't played Pinocchio. He would have to be carved from a Califonia Redwood, or at least, a giant sequoia.
-
I had strange dreams last night, as well; but obviously boring, because I don't remember any of them.
-
All That Chat had better get it together - they've already lost a considerable number of posters there and they will never ever recover if they keep doing this.
-
Page one???
-
Speaking of redwoods, I am glad to see that the Trees of Mystery is still open in Northern California, along with Paul and Babe.

All That Chat had better get it together - they've already lost a considerable number of posters there and they will never ever recover if they keep doing this.
Then HHW will be the most popular site on the Internet!
-
I remember back in the 60's, our family stopped at the Trees of Mystery on our way south to Disneyland. I remember that my mother was outraged when we got back to our car, because while we were touring the area, the staff had wired a T of M bumpersticker to our car.

Nice work last night, Cilla!

Horrible train derailment in Ohio.

Molly and I are back from a forty minute walk.
I have a huge turkey in the oven.
Mashed Potatoes to be made.
Cole Slaw to be dressed.
Broccoli and Cauliflower to be steamed.
Dinner @ 3:00pm.
Then there's this snow-bedecked thing in Texas to look forward to, I believe it has something to do with Pittsburgh. . .
-
Hey, td, are you cheering for Green Bay today?

Yum! Dinner soudns wonderful. Atre you having company?
-
I believe the majority of my meal today will be chips and dip; but I will have some chicken and rice later, after the game.
-
I think I will return to the book fair - I just love looking at nice books too much to stay away. Next weekend is another book fair, this one in San Francisco, and that one is huge with dealers from all over the country. There was a time when I'd have just hopped on a plane and attended (and did - only once, though), but I am getting to the point where unless I really need to go somewhere for work I'm not enjoying the travel experience.
-
It's a beautiful day in New York. Temperatures in the 40s with lots of sun. The remaining snow is melting. Tomorrow will be more of the same. We are due for some colder temps later in the week but right now it's beautiful.
-
By the way, Anthony awoke and we ate breakfast, scrambled eggs, fresh strawberries, a blueberry scone with blackberry jam, I had coffee and Anthony had tea.
-
And that's it from Chelsea.
-
If you can make it here, DR TCB, I'll have you for company.
And. . .NO! I am not cheering for the Fudge Packers.
-
GOOD AFTERNOON BEN
That Is All
-
Good Afternoon Arnold.
-
Good afternoon. It's 30 degrees and snowing great big snowflakes. I love this kind of snow. It generally doesn't last long.

From Cilla:
It did get better in the second half of the book. I would have liked the book much better if about 100 pages of the middle were cut out
I absolutely agree with you!!!!
-
DR TCB the much derided and abysmal TITANIC II seems to be on the SY FY Channel today at 9 p.m EST, so maybe 6 p.m. YOUR time.

I'm glad I finished it. I actually started liking him after he moved back to North Carolina
-
While I have SOCIAL NETWORK on my Netflix queue to watch & it said to be an excellent movie, I have reservations about watching it. From what I have read Mark Zuckerberg seems to be a good sport regarding the inaccuracies about him especially those that are unkind.

Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up.... And I've already played 92 auditions today.
-
...And have about another 70 to go.
-
...And I've have brunch at great old-timey restaurant that's only two blocks from the theatre. The restaurant, Barksdale Restaurant, has been around for years, but, of course, I was just tipped off to it today... After coming to Memphis for the past 12 years... Hmmm...
-
DR JRand - Yes, "Pokemon" did... (did... did... did... did... did...)

The wooden terms would be used for my dancing, not my card playing, TCB.

Sorry to hear about the passing of both Mary Cleere Haran and Tura Satana, star of one of my favorites, "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"
-
I am watching THE ABDUCTION OF FIGARO.

Sorry to hear about the passing of both Mary Cleere Haran and Tura Satana, star of one of my favorites, "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"
I see both were posted ysterday. Just now doing catch up.

Watching "Temple Grandin." Clare Danes and Catharine O'Hara are both pretty darn wonderful.

I think I will go for a walk and check out the eighborhod around 96th and Broadway.

Sure are! So is Julia Ormond but then you might not be far enough into the story to realize this.

BK - Do you think it matters to the owners if they lose some posters, as long as the flow of discussion continues.

I'm stuck in the 100-pages of quicksand, but will proceed based on the concurring opinion of DRs Cillaliz and Jane. But first I have to finish my book group book for this month - The Secret Confessions of Anne Shakespeare by Arliss Ryan. Arliss was vice-president of my high school graduating class and we went to U of M together. I recommend this book, as well as her first - The Kingsley House.

I have. This may be the best I've seen her. She was so irritating in her first roles, such as "First Knight," that I have a hard time warming up to her. She has improved.
-

They used to do that to every car that pulled into the parking lot. You could always tell which Washingtonians had gone to California for summer vacation.

Stopped the movie to make the olive oil brownies that ran in the New York Times this week:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/09/dining/09apperex.html?ref=dining&pagewanted=print
I did half coconut, which I love, and half pecan. I know we've had this discussion before, but a brownie is just not a brownie without nuts.

Jose, I am curious about something. Do you think those people who audition on Sunday have as great a chance as those that audition on Friday or Saurday? I would think that after listening to 400+ people that it would be tough to get too enthused about anyone.
-
I have returned from my walk. It is indeed quite pleasant outside but the word is out so every parent is out with their children, their strollers, and their liesurely walking. After an hour I am sick on them blocking the sidewalks, crowding the stores and in general working my last nerve.
I think I will watch the PDQ Bach opera and laugh myself back into a good mood.
-
Looking for a good banana nut bread recipe.

I am still thinking about the ending of Inception. I wish my netflix version had the special features, but it doesn't. I think I may buy this movie. I have a feeling it's one of those that you see something different every time you watch it

I can not believe that the Super Bowl has a "Red Carpet" this year.

I found this quote regarding the book:

And that's a reason to boycott the film? Do you think Richard III would have liked Shakespeare's portrayal of him? I can't can't of a single "based on fact" book or film that isn't subject to its author's/creator's dramatic license. There's very little truth in the film biographies of Fanny Brice or Cole Porter (either version in my opinion), but I don't dislike FUNNY GIRL, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, or NIGHT AND DAY because they're not accurate; I think they're lousy movies.
I want to see SOCIAL NETWORK because I hear it's a really good film, and I don't care if it doesn't represent Zuckerberg's perspective of what he believes is the truth about Facebook. We all rewrite history to our own advantages, deliberately or not.

I don't know the true story of Zuckenberg, so when I watch the move, the accuracy won't bother me one way or another.
-
Social Network was fun, captured the zeitgeist well and it hit a little too close to home for me because of problems with an ex-business partner of my own. I didn't take it for gospel truth. Too much of it seemed satirical and exaggerated to make its point. But it's well worth seeing.

Correction: DS Rob is about 4.5 hours behind us, because he had to go back for something he forgot at Mary Linda's, then had to stop for gas, then had to stop at Cabela's. He should be here by halftime...
-
We are cheering for Pittsburgh today.
Craig has been cooking special treats, which he promises to share with me, for his Super Bowl party of one. He is making vegan black bean sliders with guacamole dip & mango salsa. There will be sweet potato fries with a delicious rocoto sauce for dipping them in.

I have added the other two books to my list of books to read.

I'm about to dress ours.
I stripped and dressed mine yesterday. :)
I gotta tell you--this sinus thing is proving to be very hard to shake. It's been foggy and raining almost every day this week which not helping matters.
I went and did the laundry yesterday, came home, got everything out of the car to the house and promptly fell sound asleep on the couch. I woke up around nine PM with a pounding headache. Went to bed, couldn't sleep, got back up and watched a cute movie called "Smooch".

Coconut & nuts, not something I would want to try. For those who like coconut & nuts in their brownies these look like a special treat.
You could put dried cherries, dried blueberries or anything chocolate friendly in the middle, though I doubt they would work on top. Or just make the dough and leave out the coconut, nuts or anything else. I might do a layer of peanut butter, Nutella (I know) or miniature chocolate chips for a different texture inside. I wouldn't do it, but you could do a layer of marshmallow cream in there, too.
A recipe is a guideline, not a blueprint.

I thought you were joking about Boycotting. I never said that. I said I have reservations about watching it. The way you worded your comments it sounds like you believe the false truths told in the movie. I suppose that is why I have reservations. Usually I read the truth after watching the movie. Knowing a few of the blatant inaccuracies going into the film might ruin it for me. As I mentioned it is still at the top of my NetFlix queue.

Well I certainly would want any movie I watch to be as truthful and honest as FRANCES or HARLOW or ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN, at least.

Good Afternoon!
And as Day Three of UPTAs winds down...
It was quite an interesting morning. Which turned into an interesting afternoon. A lot of people just seemed unsettled and/or under-prepared. Alas, since I tend to be very empathetic when work with singers, well...
Just one more day to go.

Tom - The answer is "Yes". And "No". (Ah! An Evita quote!)
The slots on Friday and Saturday are primarily reserved for graduating college seniors and/or performers who are just one or two years out of college. Many of the companies in attendance hire Intern and Apprentice companies, so some younger and "fresher" talent is needed. The slots on Sunday and Monday are geared more toward working professionals. Consequently, there is usually some changeover in which companies are in the room from day to day.
We have one more day of auditions to go tomorrow, Monday. The Monday slots were added a few years ago to accommodate those actors who are currently working since Monday is usually a "dark" day. Yes, there may be fewer companies in attendance on the last day, but if someone is really good, they're bound to get snatched up by someone.
The Spring SETCs - which I'll be playing in Atlanta in a month - also make a distinction between those performers who are available for year-round work versus "summer only".
As far as the producers and directors being less "enthused" as the auditions wind down, well... If they still have some roles to cast, they'll still be paying attention and taking notes. They come to these conferences to cast their shows and/or seasons, and some have made this their only "non-local" audition stop over the past couple of years.
-
I think I will go for a walk and check out the eighborhod around 96th and Broadway.
I saw the news report the other night (last night?) about a car that jumped the curbed at 96th & Broadway, and drove into a bank there on the corner. -Or was it at 86th & Broadway? In any case... Any sign of a new "drive thru" while you were walking around? ;)

Jose, I am curious about something. Do you think those people who audition on Sunday have as great a chance as those that audition on Friday or Saurday? I would think that after listening to 400+ people that it would be tough to get too enthused about anyone.
Tom - The answer is "Yes". And "No". (Ah! An Velvita quote!)
Thanks, Jose.

My house smells like banana bread. Can't wait until it cools a little so I can have a warm slice

Write a brief or watch football....hmmm.....
-
I don't care if a movie is accurate or not. I can always look it up on the internet and of course everything I read there is true ;)
-
I saw that, DR TCB!
-
Well I certainly would want any movie I watch to be as truthful and honest as FRANCES or HARLOW or ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN, at least.
Exactly! ;)
-
Well, guess that football game is about to start. I'll need to watch the beginning so I know who is who.
Laters all!

While I have SOCIAL NETWORK on my Netflix queue to watch & it said to be an excellent movie, I have reservations about watching it. From what I have read Mark Zuckerberg seems to be a good sport regarding the inaccuracies about him especially those that are unkind.
It's fiction, speculation, and artistic and dramatic license! What's there to boycott?
I found this quote regarding the book:
"Mezrich's inability to obtain an interview with Zuckerberg and his reliance on Zuckerberg's bitter ex-business partners for information.........."
We don't know what the false truths are! Even Zuckerberg in his defense is telling lies. It's all "he said/she said."
There are some facts that can be proven. Honestly I wasn't interested in watching this movie when I first read about it. Unlike you backstabbing stories aren't my cup of tea :) I put it on my list of movies because the reviews & comments here were so kind. Then I began reading more and more about the "untruths" in the story. Now I'll watch it as if it is mostly fiction.
-

;D And I prefer finding out the accuracy of the story AFTER I watch, not constantly reading disputes regarding it before hand.
-
This may have been mentioned sometime over the past couple of days, and I might have missed it, but...
Rebecca Luker and Howard McGillin have been cast in the final Encores! production of the season, Where's Charley?.
-
OK...
One of the company reps is treating me to dinner, so...
Laters..

Time to eat banana bread and feed the cats
-
DR Jane, be sure to read ACCIDENTAL BILLIONAIRES by Ben Mezrich either before or after you see THE SOCIAL NETWORK. It's a nice breezy read and could (or could not) help you to sort out the truths from the half-truths
-
PDQ Bach made me laugh, DR ELMORE......
My friend Dana is Susanna Susannadanna. Isn't she amazing?
YES! The other lead singer playing Donna Donna has one of those voices that are impossible to understand. I could understand EVERY WORD Dana sang.....and she had such darn funny facial expressions!

He may have ulterior motives.

DR CILLA LIZ you are correct......the inner webs is best place to find accurate information about anything.

Thanks td. Isn't this the book the movie is based on?

I think I will go for a walk and check out the eighborhod around 96th and Broadway.
I saw the news report the other night (last night?) about a car that jumped the curbed at 96th & Broadway, and drove into a bank there on the corner. -Or was it at 86th & Broadway? In any case... Any sign of a new "drive thru" while you were walking around? ;)
It was 69th and Broadway.

I wasn't planning on watching it as a "backstabbing" story.
I know nothing about the movie, the "facts" behind it, anyone's version of the truth. I actually didn't know I preferred a "backstabbing" story; all I want to watch is a good story and a good movie. I hear it's a good movie.
And no matter who's presenting the story of the origins of Facebook, all the characters in the story are each presenting "their" reality to interviewers and writers, and I believe the truth is somewhere between their lines.
-
LOL You were talking as if you had seen the movie. Now you must watch and tell me what you really think of it ;)
-
Go Packers!....not that I'm really interested or anything...
-
I love that both my boys are such wonderful cooks & yet with very different styles. Bryan is more a gourmet chef while Craig is an everyday, vegan, cook. He disputes the fact some of the dishes he makes would be considered gourmet.
I just had an incredible black bean slider and even better were the sweet potato fries in the rocoto sauce-heavenly.
I'm now enjoying my third small glass of Glenlivet. The cork broke which required us to filter out the extra cork in the bottle, which required me to drink what didn't fit into the decator we poured the filtered scotch into.
-
Go Packers!....not that I'm really interested or anything...
Oh no! GO STEELERS!!! :)
Did you make a weight watcher's banana bread recipe?
-
Weight watchers? No. I made one from...I don't know somewhere on the internet. It's really good.
-
I've been eating normally again. Haven't lost more, haven't gained. I am wearing some jeans I haven't been able to get into for a long time
-
Weight watchers? No. I made one from...I don't know somewhere on the internet. It's really good.
Years ago I used to make Keith's mother's recipe & then I switched to one from my James Beard cook book. I would like to find a good but healthier recipe. In reality I just want someone to make one and share a piece with me. :)
-
I used a very simple recipe. Sugar, flour, eggs, butter, pecans etc....I did add a teaspoon of vanilla. I think vanilla enhances almost any baked good
-
I agree with you about vanilla. Craig put some vanilla syrup into the Old Fashioned he made me yesterday-YUM!!!
-
The leftover Glenlivet is sitting on the counter calling me. I know better than to have a fourth little glass no matter how delicious it is. I told Craig he is lucky not to have inherited my low tolerance for alcohol. Both boys fortunately take after Keith & can drink reasonable amounts without feeling the effects.
-
Go Packers!
-
GO STEELERS!!!!
-
Go Packers!
Ditto!
(Sorry Woodson is out...)
-
Go Packers!
GO STEELERS!!!!
Can't we all just get along!?!?
-
;)
-
So...
-
How about the half-time show? Black-Eyed Peas...Slash...Usher. Like? Dislike?
Discuss.

I don't like the dance mix sort of music. Even if I like the song, don't like it when they do "that" to it
-

I just came out of Craig's room after reading multiple complaints on FB. I think he would "dislike". Good timing on my part as I saw the Steelers make a touchdown.
-
I just turned the channel. I wasn't that interested to begin with
-
This is the most I've ever watched of a Super Bowl game. I wish Craig had been home for the World Series, that I would gladly have watched with him.
-
This is the most I've ever watched of a Super Bowl game.
I've never watched this much of ANY football game...I don't know why I'm even watching this. Just waiting for Glee, I guess.
-
I'm only interested because of Craig. I'm going to miss him when he moves on.
-
Dateline is doing their story on the real story behind 127 hours
-
Think I'll go... having just seen the movie, I want to watch this
-
Love Eminem's Chrysler commercial - homage to the Motor City.
-
Darn I missed it. Maybe Craig can back it up for me.
-

I set my DVR to record this. Thanks for mentioning it.
-
Masterpiece Theatre is showing the last episode of its wonderful adaptation of EMMA!
-
Darn I missed it. Maybe Craig can back it up for me.
DR Jane - I just "shared" it on Facebook.
-
Went back to the book fair this morning and it was fun again. I hung out with a couple of dealers, looked at a few more books, and then came home.
-
The work session was really fun, and then we all went to Hugo's to eat. Thanks to the football game it was empty there.
-
Now I shall watch a motion picture.
-
Craig refuses to back it up for me. He said I can watch it online. ;D DR Ginny he didn't get as emotional as you did regarding Detroit. I explained he grew up outside Detroit, not in it. ;)
-

DR Jane - I just "shared" it on Facebook.
Thanks. I'll go there now.

Age is probably a factor, too, DR Jane...
-
LOL and sex. :)

Craig walked in and asked if I was crying yet :D I responded I'm not from Detroit. We both agree it is a very good commercial!!!! Thank you for putting it on facebook.

I forgot, who is in this one?
Romola Garai, Jonny Lee Miller, and Michael Gambon.
-
As I'm walking out of Craig's room I said "sorry". After a beat he calls out "I'll live". :D
-
Well, it's over.

Go Packers :)
-
Well, at least I understand the part where the Steelers lost. There will be a lot of unhappy people at work and on the bus tomorrow.
-
I know I'm so broke up that I think I'll hit the sack and dream of better games...... :'( ;) ;D
'Night all!
-
LOL Danise, I loved your facebook quote that they kept talking about turnovers and you didn't think they meant apple or cherry :)
-

Considering where you live I would expect unhappy people whoever lost.
-

Had I been watching I would have been just as confused. :)
-
I'm really tired. I watched the first forty minutes of All About Eve, but I started drifting off.
-
And now - GLEE!
-
George, I hated the half-time show. It was like watching third-tier "American Idol" singers badly miked and forced to wear embarrassing costumes while Oompa Loompas in Tron outfits danced around them.
-
I also hated the commercials. The only one I really liked was a regional one for our Texas grocery H-E-B.
-
Am watching the Frank Sinatra "Can-Can" now. Better than football.
-

I've never been a fan of Black-Eyed Peas or any of the other performers, so it didn't do anything for me, but I didn't hate it. It just didn't live up to any of the hype...but do they ever?

Given how off-key most of the singing was, I was surprised by how bad it was.
-
This is the first time I've seen "Can-Can" unedited and uncut for TV. I can now understand why Juliet Prowse drew all of the good reviews.

We had some very sad news yesterday - the Dad of one of the Vixter's friends lost his batlle with lung cancer -
