Title: VEAL OSCAR

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both veal and Oscar, and now it is time for you to post until the award-winning cows come home.

Sunday morning greetings!  For the second week in a row, I'm not on my way to Lima.  Fr. Richard is flying solo today, because Mary Linda and I had plans to attend a bridal fair.  However, because her car broke down on her way here Friday night, she has to catch a bus in Dayton to get home today.  Rob is attending his second day of fire engine driving class all day, so I will take ML to the bus stop.

BK, my "GWTW" arrived. It was delayed because it had been delivered to the wrong house and it took a day to get here. So that's the post office's problem, nothing on your end of the deal. Can't wait to play it later today.

Good morning, all! Last night I had two weird dreams: the first about my sophomore roommate Larry Dlan, whom I've not seen since 1966 or so. He was a good guy from Hamilton, OH, but I haven't thought of him in years. The second one was bout a huge weekend outside Manhattan at the estate of a friend who'd become wealthy through catering. All I remember now is trying to leave to catcvh a train and being unable to find my cap.

I have no energy today. I slept two hours later than I intended, and I've decided to postpone the laundry until tomorrow morning. I've got some work here on the Herbert shows I can do for a bit. Then I may go back to bed and watch some DVDs.

Kenny and I may be in THE MUSIC MAN together - and there is always DON'T DRINK THE WATER, but I don't think there's much interaction for characters of our ages in either show.  Time will tell.

SISTER KENNY is one long slug of a movie.

Do you think Rosalind Russell never won an Oscar because a lot of people in Hollywood just didn't like her personally? Or was it because she was not affiliated with one particular studio?

No. They perform a matinee at 3, as do most Broadway shows on Sunday.

Hi all!  I've have my contacts in and can't begin to tell you how good it is to be able to see!   I never realized how horrible glasses are. Ugh.  I am so spoiled by the total range of vision the contacts give me that I could never go back to just glasses.

I do think I will take them out early in the evening so I don't put any kind of strain on my eyes.  We'll see how the day goes.

I'm still pretty black and blue but hey, think of the eye shadow I'm saving.  :)  At least my face isn't so sore.

After speaking with Thelma last night, I think I might know exactly what happened.  I was sitting at the computer and my leg may have been asleep but I didn't realize it.   When I got up, it just gave out and sent me on a tumble.    I was a little worried as to the why it happened because I didn't think I tripped on anything.

I need to go make a cup of coffee.  Be back!

We had a glorious rain here last night.  Most of it was in the middle of the night, so I didn't get to really enjoy it happening.  Although the sun is shining brightly at the moment, I'm hoping we'll get more rain.

So tonight is the Oscars.  I don't even know who is up.  I've seen all of commercials with Ann Hathoway (and I thought a couple of them were funny) but other then that, I don't care for award shows.  The one who deserves to win almost never does.  I may watch the red carpet part to see the dresses.

My brother gave me back a computer that I gave him.  I am going to donate it to theater for the costumes and props department who need one - and anyone else who wants to use it.

unfortunately, my brother did not give me the password.....so I had to call him.  No answer.  I am glad I checked it out before I took it to the theatre next week.

I'm glad you figured out what happened.  I'm sure not knowing was upsetting.  I'm glad you won't keep your contacts in all day.  You don't want to irritate your eye.  I wish I was as successful wearing contacts as you are.  Even the soft ones bother me.

Ants.  First time ever in this house.  Coming from the drain in the shower (took me fifteen minutes to locate the point of entrance).  I have bug sprayed down that drain and will continue to do so - thankfully, it hadn't gotten bad yet, just a few ants who are now no longer with us.  I'm getting more bug spray right now and if it continues, then I'll have professionals come.

Mary Linda and I were about halfway to the bus stop when Rob called to say his class was over and he'd meet us there.  She was all checked in with more than hour until departure, so I left the two of them to wait and I got home just as Fr. Richard was arriving from Lima.  I had some leftover Chinese food for lunch and read the Sunday papers.  Maybe a nap before the Oscars...

Convenient timing :)

Yes, DR Jane, it was convenient.  I'm sure ML would rather spend an hour with Rob than with me.  My route home took me past the entrance to the library where I used to work.  It was about 2 minutes to opening and there must have been 50-75 bottom feeders crowded around the door  :P

I still hate that the show is so much about the hosts who feel compelled to DO something that goes on and on - when we want to see the awards.

And word is that most of the presenters, etc, are going to be the cream of the crop of the latest and greatest shimmering glowing stars in the cinema firmament.

How are gas prices where you all are?  I paid $3.09 on Tuesday and haven't been out since my trip to the ER.  I saw on the news it's up to about $3.335.

I can't be sure because this is our third day in a row staying home.  Keith is currently chipping away at ice on the road to increase our chances of getting home if we go out tomorrow.  I have a PT appointment in the afternoon I don't want to miss.

I'm guessing our gas prices are between $3.50 & $3.60 making your prices look good.
Just looked while I was out. Ours are now up to 3.29.

I am watching one of the most insufferably bad movies I've ever seen - Flipped, written (based on a novel) and directed by Rob Reiner, who has completely lost whatever little talent he had.  We sent him the Kritzer books which, if you must know, we think he never even bothered to read - this film is about a young romance but is so annoying on every level that I'm thrilled he didn't get his mitts on my books because he would have emphasized every wrong thing you could.

Okay, here's our new release for those who want a jump on what I'm pretty sure will be a sellout.  You know the drill - it's 19.98 plus 3.75 shipping (23.73) paid via paypal to kritzerland at adelphia dot net.

Kritzerland is proud to present a new world premiere limited edition soundtrack:

ORDEAL BY INNOCENCE – The Lost Score
Music Composed by Pino Donaggio

In the 1970s and 1980s, there were several big-screen all-star adaptations of Agatha Christie’s books, starting with the huge success of Murder On The Orient Express, followed by Death On The Nile, The Mirror Crack’d, and Evil Under The Sun.  1985s Ordeal By Innocence was at the tail end of that particular cycle and was based on Christie’s 1958 book, one of her darker tales – it was also one of her favorites of that period.  The film version, made by Cannon, assembled a top-notch cast including Donald Sutherland, Faye Dunaway, Christopher Plummer, Sarah Miles, Ian McShane, and Diana Quick.  In the director’s chair was Desmond Davis, who’d made the quirky 1960s films, Girl With Green Eyes and Smashing Time, as well as the 1981 version of Clash Of The Titans.   Engaged to write the score was the wonderful Italian composer, Pino Donaggio, who by that time had made a huge name for himself turning out superior scores for such films as Don’t Look Now, Carrie, Dressed To Kill, The Fan, Blow Out, Body Double, and many others.

Donaggio provided his usual lush, beautiful, suspenseful music, the kind he was so adept at, and his score was fantastic.  All should have been well in Christieland, but after Donaggio turned in his score, the film went through major revisions, with a lot of re-editing and some new footage.  At that point, the film required rescoring, but Donaggio was already working on another project and was not available.  To replace the score, they turned not to a well-known film composer or even a not-well-known film composer – they turned to jazz legend Dave Brubeck.  Using existing Brubeck music, newly recorded for the film.  Brubeck’s music is terrific on its own – classic Brubeck all the way.  Unfortunately, it isn’t movie music and it’s mostly at odds with the visuals and mood of the film.

One can take the position that the film might have had a different fate with the Donaggio score.  Or not.  It’s really hard to know.  What we do know is that the score is top-of-the-line Donaggio.  At times reminiscent of his work for De Palma (especially Dressed To Kill), it’s all swirling strings and lush melodies and tension-filled passages, all very symphonic.   No one did or does this sort of thing better than Donaggio.  There was a short seventeen-minute suite used on a Pino Donaggio compilation, but this is the world premiere release of the entire score – every note written for the film, along with a suite of alternate cues.   For anyone who loves Donaggio or who loves classic film scoring, this CD will, I hope, be very pleasing.

This CD was assembled and mastered from the first generation two-track mixed music masters direct from Italy and the sound is phenomenal.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price of the CD is $19.98, plus shipping.   Additionally, we are offering a special deal with the purchase of this release.  Go to the item page and click on the link to find out about it.

CD will ship the second week of April – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

So, they're already arriving and this goes on for two hours now?

about an hour of arriving and an hour of commercials

Then 1/2 hour of arrival footage on ABC and the awards start at 8:30.....or I guess 5:30 on the left coast.

Duke Snider has passed away:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/So-long-Duke-Snider-Brooklyn-Dodgers-great-die?urn=mlb-327021

Was lucky enough to see Duke and all the great Brooklyn greats play many times at Crosley Field against the Cincy Reds.

You were.  You must have been very young if you saw the Brooklyn Dodgers play.  I must have been 9 1/2 when I went to my first Dodger game.  L.A. Dodgers of course.

No...I'm just very old...

TOD:

No predictions as such, as the only nominee I saw was THE KING'S SPEECH, which I loved. Lovely film. I will say that I feel that Colin Firth earned the many kudos he's received, but I'd like to see Geoffrey Rush receive Best Supporting Actor, as I feel he did every bit as fine a job as Colin Firth. The only performance in the film that disappointed me was Timothy Spall, whose work I usually admire. I didn't feel this performance was quite up to the mark. That said, it is just a wonderful film.

Good Evening!

Well... Time-Warner is still "investigating" the problem with the "modem outage" which has apparently affected various parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn. So, I'm still without cable and internet access at home until tomorrow. Or possibly until Tuesday.

I really wish I could attend tonight's Oscar Par-Tay here on HHW, but there's really only so much web-surfing my eyes can take via the iPhone. And since I can't watch the ceremony on TV anyway right now... Well... I'm just going to do some reading, listen to some music and turn in early.

I hope everyone is doing well. ~~~~~VIBES~~~~~ to those who need them. Hope to be back sooner rather than later.

Laters...

I think the Miss Leo f word was calculated - I think she knew exactly what she was doing.

I didn't or I wouldn't have appreciated her acceptance speech.   I hope I'm correct and not you, just meaning it is nicer my way.

DR JANE everything she has done since being nominated seems to be in the same calculating and calculated vein....I'm with BK on this one.

This difference between following her calculated actions & watching without preconceived ideas.

While Ann's red dress is striking I hated her makeup and hair.  The red color of her lipstick did not go with the color of her dress.  I prefer the first dress, make-up & hair at the beginning of the awards.

Okay, someone needs to explain the ineptitude of the sound mix on the songs - disgusting - was Randy's mic even ON?  The Menken song - not one of this best, but they do love to give it to him - still, I'd rather Randy win.

I wanted to like THE SOCIAL NETWORK, but was kind of disappointed with it.

I have heard good and less than enamoured opinions. A friend of mine said it would have been a good television movie or mockumentary

So...

DR edisaurus - I arrive in the ATL Wednesday mid-day, and I depart Sunday morning.

Where are we eating?

;D

I will be back from Florida Thursday night, possibly in time for dinner. I came down to help Greg set up and do a job in Ft. Lauderdale.
Your choice!

I liked it until I knew that Mr. David Fincher regularly did ninety takes of scenes

IMHO, you sometimes loose something when you do that many takes

Good evening all!  Had a good time with my friends.   I think I was most happy for Randy Newman, but also for all the top winners.  Not sure where I came out in my pool but i did pretty well

So am I!

I technically have an appointment for tomorrow morning, but I'm really tempted just to cancel it since everything seems to be working fine right now.

*And I really do have to thank the the Twitter folks at Time-Warner's national office for helping to facilitate my "negotiations" with the NYC office. ;)

And...

As much as I would like to catch up on the past four days of posts, I do need to get ready for bed now. Lots of stuff to take care of tomorrow.

Goodnight.

OMG!  I entered the Oscar contest at our local newspaper and if I'm reading it right, I just won a family pack of 4 tickets to the local theater for one year.  It says the winner will be notified by email. I got everything right but the tie breaker (there were 10 categories) but no one else got 10 right so I won.

This is so cool.  I will be watching my email closely.  I would LOVE to have a year free pass to the movie.

Even cooler, there were 65 people in the contest....I'm loving this.  If I dont' have an email by tomorrow morning, I'll call.

KING'S SPEECH & Colin Firth have won...all is right with the world.

Jrand, Helen Mirren is not Anti-American.  She's even married to one and lives here half the time.

BK, I can't watch and comment at the same time.

Best acceptance speech:  The documentary winner reminding us that it has been three years and still no trader or banker has gone to prison for bilking the country and the world.

George,

Did you see the part where there were three recipients, 2 men and a women and one of the men thanked "all three of our wives" and named three women.

der Brucer

A lot classier than the over-the-the hill Producer who thanked his "boy friend".
