Good morning, all! I've been catching up on yesterday's posts and doing a lot of Google searches. I've been reading the new autobiography, I WAS A DANCER, by Jacques d'Amboise and it sent me off to Google. The book is quite wonderful, some of it is very moving, and Mr d'Amboise is a very generous and kind storyteller. There are some beautiful portraits of interesting folk. The book is a lot like the Hugh Martin bography that was recently published; I wish Hugh hadn't found Jesus and swept the dirt under the carpet. Since the prurient side of me is interested in the dish - and I've read and heard some from their late publicist Phillip Bloom some concerning the City Ballet in the 40s and 50s - I think it's a very whitewashed story in this new bio. Still, I'm enjoying it very much.

Today I am back to Encores! I have some CHARLEY? work to accomplish here before I go.

Warren Beatty: Bonnie and Clyde
                        Shampoo

Al Pacino:         The Godfather
                        Frankie and Johnny
                        Serpico
                        The Merchant of Venice

Notwithstanding the silly stage name, I suspect Lady Gaga will do well in films once she gets into that mode.  (I say that since Gaga seems to be following a Madonna-type track.)

Both Cher and Madonna opted to debut on Broadway in supporting roles in straight plays, not in musicals.

Not interesting, but it's a post.

And they both proved that they were lousy stage actresses without multiple takes, editing and cutting.

I remember that DICK TRACY was a chore to sit through.  The costumes, scenery, cinematography and makeup were initially interesting but eventually the garishness of it all was wearying.  Absolutely no direction as far as setting any kind of balance of tone among the stars--Beatty just let everyone do whatever the hell they wanted.  I recall that I didn't mind Madonna but she wasn't any better than anyone else in that film.

Cher and Madonna are puzzling to me as actresses.  I thought Cher was wonderful in MOONSTRUCK and SILKWOOD and that Madonna was terrific in SUDDENLY SEEKING SUSAN and A LEAGUE OF THIER OWN, but they both generally range from mediocre to outright horrible in other movies.  I don't think they were just lucky and pulled their  good performances out of their butts.  Do they respond only to certain directors? Something different in their diets at those points in their careers?  Like I said, 'tis a puzzlement...

I've never been a big Warren Beatty fan.

I'm not suggesting that many of his films are not good, but the only movie of his that I really like is SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS.

Al Pacino:

THE GODFATHER TRILOGY, SERPICO, ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL and, although I don't really like the picture itself, I think Al's choreography scene in DICK TRACY is hysterical.

In other words, extreme vegan.

Nope, simply vegan.  Craig checks packaging not only for whey products but for the kind of sugar used.  Some sugars are ok.  When he is out he is less strict.  When we accidentally purchase something in error for him he doesn't waste it.  We are better now at spotting pure vegan foods than when he first moved here.

Interesting that Al Pacino is the subject today as last night we finally watched YOU DON'T KNOW JACK.  I say finally as the DVD from NetFlix has been sitting here at least a month and I haven't wanted to watch it.  We lived through Jack Kevorkian as we were in Michigan during his activities and I didn't want to watch a movie about it.

The movie was very interesting and well done.  Al Pacino truly captured Kevorkian and did a suburb acting job as did all the cast.  Brenda Vaccaro was absolutely fantastic!!  Just the other day, not realizing she would be in "Jack" I was thinking how I haven't seen her in anything in such a long time.

I love Warren Beatty,  when I was in college I had a life sized poster - well bigger than life sized, actually - image of him a Clyde in his undershirt standing next to the bed looking down at a pistol in his hand.  Couldn't find the image with a quick Google search.  Anyway, my room at the lake in the summer was a former garage that had been turned into a guest house, one of my mom's friends came in looking for me one day and let out this blood curdling scream.. She thought there was a man with a gun in my room, lol.

Today I almost fell over laughing, but had to keep in on the inside.    For months after she started working here, I told Edith I really don't like appointments before 10:00 AM so I can get my day started.  She has ignored that for ....3 years, so I gave up and just went with 9:00 AM.    Today, out of the blue she suggested that maybe it would be better if I started my day at say...10:00 AM and went later so I have time to wake up and get going.     She's envisioning that I'll do that at home, but I want to be able to have coffee, get here and do the books etc and get my day started.   Anyway, I didn't say "I told you so" and just said it was a good idea, lol

If true about Sheen, I'm glad CBS finally had the moxie to do something like this.  With what they're paying him and what the show must now cost, it's hard to have that kind of moxie, but you can't let these people run the business.

Better just to tell us you told her so. :)

If true about Sheen, I'm glad CBS finally had the moxie to do something like this.  With what they're paying him and what the show must now cost, it's hard to have that kind of moxie, but you can't let these people run the business.

Good for Warner Bros. & CBS.

Just noticed last night that I hve a new network on my cable line-up. It is called Antenna TV and has a lot of vintage TV shows like DANIEL BOONE, FATHER KNOWS BEST, HAZEL, DENNIS THE MENACE and Sally Field's GIDGET.

I set my DVR to record some of the Hazel episodes and I might add Dennis The Menace to the mix as well, later.

Charlie Sheen has been fired by CBS from "Two and a Half Men."

That is the good news.  The bad news is he has a ridiculously large following on twitter.  If Charle sues over the firing he will continue to be in our faces.

Back from the soup supper.  In addition to my tomato/beef chili, there was also a white bean/chicken chili (yum!).  Lots of cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, and a layer cake that looked delicious.  I ate only 1 small piece of Swiss cheese and no cake, pretty true to my diet, I think.  There were lots of people there to work on the book sale tables, so I came home after the business meeting.

I have always been comfortable on stage.  I get a rush of nerves before I go on stage, but once I am out on stage, I feel at home.  I never get nervous before an audtiion, because a drama teacher years ago taught me that if I didn't think I was the best person for the part, then nobody else would think so either.
