Well, you've read the notes, the notes' dander was both up and down, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - their collective danders are up.
-
And the word of the day is: ZIBELINE!
-
And don't forget to listen to this week's Broadway Radio Show here at haineshisway.com - it features my very own self.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I slept reasonably well, with no memories of dreams except something about my wandering around the Village with two comedians, Alan King and Joey Bishop, maybe. It's fading very quickly.
This morning, I'm having breakfast with Susanna Moross and her husband Peter Tarjan, both wonderful friends I don't see often enough. After that, I head down to Encores! to help Joshie. Our sitzprobe is on Saturday at 3 pm, and I look forward to it.
DR John G, among the McGlinnventory I found John McGlinn's cast proposal for an EMI recording of LOVE LIFE, one of the items that fell through when his contract was expired. McGlinn was never officialy terminated by EMI, tey simply didn't renew his contract. I cannot speak for EMI, who I feel never appreciated the value of McGlinn in his desire for recording needed works over crossover casts of familiar territory, but I suspect they saw his contract expire with a sense of relief; he was a complete pain the more he began believing his own press and he indulged himself with free concert materials at their expense, which led to inquiries from the EMI production office on the music prep expenses. That said, LOVE LIFE was in the works: much, if not all, of a complete new vocal score was copied, and it was to be recorded with Thomas Hampson and Judy Kaye in the two principal roles. The only other name I remember now on the cast list was Damon Evans.
-
Good morning, DR Ben!
-
Morning Dear Larry!
-
I'm having dinner with two friends from DC on Saturday. They are going to see Anything Goes at the Sondheim (FKA The Henry Miller). We will be eating at Brooklyn Diner just across the street (almost) from the Sondheim. They take reservations at OpenTable. We shall see how that works out.
-
And now I am alone.
-
So Goodbye for Now
-
Wednesday morning greetings! It's raining in Lima, perfect weather for shopping at the mall. Our Ash Wednesday service is at 7pm and we'll drive home after that unless the rain has turned to snow or ice. It's not supposed to do that until after midnight, so we should be OK.
-
Last night DR Jose asked, "Is it Lent yet?" When I asked Fr. Richard if we had to eat meatless today, he said not until after he imposes the ashes on our foreheads at tonight's service. That means he can have a Kewpie olive burger for lunch today!
-
Question for BK:
When is the NYC trip that you mentioned a few days ago?
-
Crap! I forgot it was Ash Wednesday!
-
I hope the rain holds off here until after lunch so I can venture out and try to find a tuna sandwich somewhere.
-
No, DR Laura, Spiderman the musical has not "opened" on Broadway. It is in perpetual preview mode.
-
Good morning.
Ginny, do you go meatless for Lent? Is that one of your denomination's practice?
-
Last night, DR TCB said:
And then he thought about the game.......... From DAMN YANKEES!
As DR Jose replied, BINGO!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Ash Wednesday two years ago was the day I got laid off.
-
I said it back when the film about the bailouts (in BK's notes) was widely discussed in 2010, and I'll say it again, because it's an extra post. :) :)
There's nothing truly "new" in their award-winning film analysis that people in the financial services community didn't know very very well back in December 2008 carrying into early 2009. (My AIG parody videos were made in Nov and Dec 2008, if anyone's interested in what we already knew as a community in late 2008.)
Kudos to the film for filmmaking, but the only thing that's new is they've told old news well, it seems. Many many people felt and dealt with the outrage starting in early 2009, that may be why we're not feeling it more now because a movie told it well.

Looking forward to "Inside Job." Also looking forward to FJL's parodies.
-
Hope that last post of mine's not too controversial.
-
I'm obviously in a crabby mood this morning. I've still got Dan the Man's hacky cough. :)
-
And it is that morning again.
-
But at least I did read the notes
-
Did Jose give us his good news yet? Did I miss it?
-
Maybe you need another cup of coffee, FJL.
-
Laura - I must have milk in my coffee, and that'll make the hacky cough worse, and that's the source of the crabbiness. :)
-
Will we hit page 2 before BK gets up?
-
Page 2 Cough-y Dance
-
Maybe you should have another teaspoon of codeine, FJL. That works for me.
-
I'm taking something called Buckley's - which tastes vile, so it must be good for me. :)
-
Good morning.
Ginny, do you go meatless for Lent? Is that one of your denomination's practice?
Only this evening and Fridays.
-
Rain today and too much company expected.....both irritants that I could do without.
-
I try not to think too much about the financial industry and the bailout - because there is NOTHING I can do.....no matter how strongly I feel.
The problem is the industry of course.....but MORESO the asses we elect to watch out for us who spend all of their time looking out for themselves.
All of the Indiana Democrat asses went to Illinois instead of working.....and I am sure they are all FULL SALARY while they do it. They are NOT HEROES!
-
If I can't take
A coughy break,
A coughy break,
A coughy break.
-
Off to brunch - bye for now!
-
Lunch meeting today.
Another screenplay assignment could be in the offering.
Fingers crossed.
-
DR DRUXY I have been reading your published screenplay of CHEYENNE AUTUMN.....most enjoyable.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I don't give a fig about "tiger blood".
-
I'm taking something called Buckley's - which tastes vile, so it must be good for me. :)
Isn't Buckley's a bourbon? ;)
(It's not. Ah, well...)
-
Did Jose give us his good news yet?
Not yet.
Did I miss it?
Not yet.
-
House full of company.
-
And today is a cleaning day for me. I actually spent a good hour and a half after I woke up sorting, recycling and purging. And now for a bit more of the same.
Laters...
-
DR DRUXY I have been reading your published screenplay of CHEYENNE AUTUMN.....most enjoyable.
Thanks. I'm very proud of that one.
You should see the movie.
BTW: It's CHEYENNE WARRIOR.
:)
-
Question for BK:
When is the NYC trip that you mentioned a few days ago?
I believe I come in on May 9 and leave the morning of the 12th.
-
I'm up after a night of quite weird dreams, some of which involved the old helper.
-
House full of company.
You should have kept your blinds down.
-
FJL, yes, those in the financial industry knew some of the information and most kept it to themselves, as you know. This film isn't for those people. This film is for the millions upon millions of people who didn't know exactly how sickening this whole deal was. Whether the film will reach those people and whether those people, in true American fashion, will just shake their heads and then say, "Oh, well" is something else again.
-
A sign that people are interested in "Inside Job" is that when I went to place a reservation on it at the library, there were more than 100 reservations ahead of mine.
-
Well, that's heartening.
-
And the word of the day is: ZIBELINE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: TAKE BACK YOUR MINK
-
A sign that people are interested in "Inside Job" is that when I went to place a reservation on it at the library, there were more than 100 reservations ahead of mine.
Our library bought three copies (they're not yet received) and there are 21 requests.

Lunch meeting today.
Another screenplay assignment could be in the offering.
Fingers crossed.
~~~Broken Finger Vibes for DR Druxy!!~~~
(but not literally)
About to toddle off to lunch and then errands and whatnot and then rehearsal.
Good Afternoon!
More cleaning. More organizing. More junking of stuff! HOO and RAY!
-
And I even managed to swing by The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck for a "Salty Pimp". He's out today - and only today! - because he was filming a segment for The Food Network! It was nice to see the truck parked at 17th and Union Square West. A true harbinger of Spring and Summer! :)
-
And since we're soooo close...
-
WELCOME TO PAGE THREE!!!
-
*I was going to post a "DANDER DANCE", but dander really ain't that pretty. ::)
-
And now...
Back to dust mines!
Laters...
-
Hello, everyone.
Really enjoyed FJL's parodies, as usual.
-
64 post at 3:11 p.m.?
-
I'm expecting a copy of INSIDE JOB in today's mail.
The financial industry is so complex that I think it's difficult for many of us--myself included--to sort out what's what. Yes, many of us were rather shocked that the government was pouring billions of dollars into private companies, but those companies were in powerful positions. I'm not trying to justify any actions, just saying that I think it's hard to know sometimes what the right action is. As for the arrogance of certain CEOs, well, that can be mind-boggling. Maybe looking at things in hindsight we can gain a better perspective of where the lines ought to be drawn.
-
Glad to hear that BK's cell reception has improved. My cell reception is fine--it's my broadband that needs improvement. Oy!
-
TTFN.
-
Hmmm, Jeanne's last post said 3:35, but my clock says it is only 3:23. And we are in the same time zone.
-
Lunch meeting today.
Another screenplay assignment could be in the offering.
Ditto.
Good meeting.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
It's been a very good day but a very long one. First, I had a nice breakfast with Susanna and Peter Tarjan, whom I met at 8:30 at Popover. We left around 9:45 and I took a bus to City Center. I left there, my mind completely fried, around 5:30. I spent most of the day making cuts in parts, the huge one being in "The New Ashmolean Marching Society and Students Conservatory Band." All in all, a good day. Back tomorrow at 10.
Tonight, I plan to chill out, read more of the d'Amboise bio, watch some tv, and crash relatively early. Tomorrow night I have a dinner date with Steven LaBrie, who's in town for some voice lessons. He's young, bright, and possessor of twice twice my energy. I have to rest up for this!
-
If course DR DRUXY....CHEYENNE WARRIOR.....I had Carroll BAker on my mind.
-
Company is finally gone. Many reruns on television tonight.....so I may watch a DeeVeeDee.
-
DR ELMORE any cuts in THAT song would have to be an improvement.
-
DR ELMORE any cuts in THAT song would have to be an improvement.
It's really wonderful with the orchestration intentionally full of wrong notes to sound like an amateur band. The dance music, which originally featured a dancer playing the drum major, goes on forever and that's where the cut was made.
DR JRand60, you should check out that Jacques d'Amboise DVD. A couple of the dances are quite wonderful.
According to the NY Times it's offical
Bruce, thanks for the comments on "Inside Job" thought I don't expect any surprises. I just moved it higher on our NetFlix queue. Did you watch "Waiting for Superman"?
From Cilla:
There is some experimental treatments at Mayo clinic that have had some success. I do know he's going there as well as to his doctors in Des moines. I will say it's nice to live very near to Mayo clinic.
Good. I hate to ask about trials as many people aren't interested in checking them out. I kept talking to my sister about looking into them, which she wouldn't do. Once it was too late she called me to check some out. By then she wasn't a candidate for them.
My hiking group went to a trail near a nice coffee shop we normally stop at after the hike. Today many of them had to get back to shower and go to the 12:30 service. That's what I get for hiking with a church group. ;)
-
More snow tonight. Is it Spring yet?
Laura - I must have milk in my coffee, and that'll make the hacky cough worse, and that's the source of the crabbiness. :)
;D I hope you may soon have milk in your coffee again!!!
Good Evening!
Whew!
Whew!
Whew!
-Yes, that was three - count 'em three Whew's!!!
...And that had to be the most awkward and off-key musical transition I've ever heard on "American Idol". ???
A sign that people are interested in "Inside Job" is that when I went to place a reservation on it at the library, there were more than 100 reservations ahead of mine.
It is a long wait on NetFlix :)
FINGERS CROSSED VIBES FOR DR DRUXY!
Goodnight, DR TCB.
-
DR Jose, did you ever read about my adventures with Filipino cuisine from the other week?
-
Sorry TCB, but I can certainly understand where you are coming from.
Tomorrow we interview two candidates to replace out retiring HR division director. We are gonna grill them, but good!
Sorry TCB, but I can certainly understand where you are coming from.
Ditto and ditto.
I'm sorry, TCB, that you aren't feeling up to the callbacks.
Good luck and get a good one!!
-
Thank you very much George.
-
DR Jose, did you ever read about my adventures with Filipino cuisine from the other week?
I just did. ;)
So, you actually tried dinaguan? Good for you. I guess. ;)
There are a couple of variations, but it should have contain bits of liver. -And, yes, tripe is part of the pudding/stew too. -And I still have the sense/smell memory of my mom boiling the tripe on Saturday morning's when I was a kid. That smell most definitely woke me up. Sometimes, bits of pig's ears are also added.
As for the menudo.... That's one of my favorites. Again, there are a couple of variations. Was yours chicken or beef based? -And if it was beef-based, did it include tongue?
Was the third item Ampalaya con Carne? -Bitter Melon with Beef?
-
TCB, sorry you aren't feeling up tp the call backs.
-
VIBES TO CRAIG~~~~~~
-
~~~~~GOOD NEWS VIBES FOR DR JANE'S DS CRAIG~~~~~
-
It's home-heading time.
Have a good rest of the evening, all!
-
Sorry folks. I will not be going to callbacks tonight. I am just not feeling up to the commitment.
DR TCB - Sometimes you just know.
-
And...
I just finished a 30-minute phone call...
And after one more phone call tomorrow, I can finally officially announce my good news. :)
-
Thanks DRs Cilla & Jose.
-
And just in case anyone is wondering, I will not be a part of the new Spider-Man team. ;D
-
In other news....
Someone stole Guy Fieri's Lamborghini.
And here are The 10 best reactions to the Guy Fieri Lamborghini heist (http://insidescoopsf.sfgate.com/blog/2011/03/09/the-10-best-reactions-to-the-daring-guy-fieri-lamborghini-heist/)

And just in case anyone is wondering, I will not be a part of the new Spider-Man team. ;D
LOL, Jose, I was about to make a joke about whether that would be your news, you beat me to it
-
Back from Lima! I had a very successful shopping day at the Lima Mall and no longer have to wear baggy pants. We had a nice turnout for the Ash Wednesday service and an uneventful drive home in the rain. Time for a (meatless) snack!
-
Hmmm...
I wonder how DR Matthew and DR Ron Pulliam like driving around in that Lamborghini?
;D
-
just caught up
-
This is what has been playing in my head when I saw
(and then, and then...!)
Chorus:
And then along came Jones
Tall thin Jones
Slow-walkin' Jones
Slow-talkin' Jones
Along came long, lean, lanky Jones

so tired

Vibes for DS Craig
-
I am sorry TCB - but I understand your concerns
-
sorry falling asleep
-
Druxy - I need to know - did you send me a link on facebook or have you been hacked? I am afraid to click on the link after my virus episode of last week
-
Thanks for the hacky-cough chuckles and better-health wishes.
-
Thanks for your comments, Jeanne.

Well, that was a long day. After lunch at Barney's Beanery, I picked up a couple of packages and then began rehearsal with The Singer. She ran through the entire show, very nervously - her first time through actually doing it in front of someone. It was the best thing for her - things were rough, but clearly we have made a very good act, with great songs and fun patter. But she does not own the patter yet, nor the songs, nor is she the driver of the show. That is the metaphor I use - she is the driver and we're all passengers and she's taking us on a tour and is always in charge - the various places we stop and how we get there always need to be fun and surprising.
-
After we finished the run, we had a really intensive work session - several hours of it. We began at the beginning and I basically stopped her after every line of patter and after every line of a lyric - we discussed the intention of the song, the shape of the song, and then how to bring variety and color to it. She took lots of notes, and we ran each thing several times. I rewrote some patter, making it sound more in her voice, but basically it was dissecting the songs and figuring out how to make them work as well as they can. She's very talented, listens, and is able to assimilate and do. She'll now go off on her own tomorrow and work all these notes, and then we'll get together on Friday and do the same thing.
-
That took about four hours total. Now I am listening to music and catching up on the Internet and wondering why we are on page five.
-
It is most unseemly and I feel a bitch-slapping is coming.
-
Jane, I haven't seen Waiting for Superman yet, but will.
-
I am so bored of the Spiderman crap. The cynic in me believes this has been planned for weeks and that it was drawn out like this (announcing that there would be an announcement, and then endlessly leaking information) so they could get as much publicity as they could, because, let's face it, sales were dropping every week, publicity had dwindled because people were so tired of hearing about it, and this was the perfect way to jack up interest again. Now they'll shut down and do work they should have done long ago - but the people doing the work are, how shall we say, not exactly theater magicians or theater people who have been around the boards a lot - which is really who they need. The new director has directed exactly one Broadway show, and that wasn't especially memorable save for its leading man - The Boy from Oz. The new book writer wrote some Spiderman comics and did a reworked book that apparently didn't solve much for It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman, which had its one and only production thus far in Dallas. If they had true theater pros who were experts, three weeks of work would not be an impossible dream, but one has to believe that with this team and being tied to a physical production that cannot change that much (especially the flying sequences, which I can guarantee you will not change) not that much will happen. These producers, I must say, make me nauseous. They don't care how much money they spend or what kind of awful precedents they set. This little 65 million dollar musical will now suddenly have a budget of 80 million dollars and, presuming they do make it palatable to critics (doubtful, but who knows) and audiences, they would still have to run at capacity and full price ticket sales for over eight years to even begin to break even - and if they're not selling out it will take twelve years.
-
Ash Wednesday two years ago was the day I got laid off.
:(
You know, I don't think so. I was liberated from something that was soul-numbing. I may be a lot poorer, but I feel more positive about things and have certainly gained a healthier perspective on life. I am not my job. And I needed to learn that.
Still, I would like a job ... though maybe not until after the first semester of college is over.

Thank you. It is boring. What I find funny is that the twerp from the New York Post, who has been attacking the show from the beginning, is now attacking the attempts to improve it. It's all publicity -- and, hey, why not get Charlie Sheen to star in it. He's available now.

Mega-vibes for TCB.
Vibes that your cough-y break ends, FJL.
And vibes for anyone else needing them.

Yes! That's what Julie Taymor needs: Tiger Blood!

I will say that the choice of the new director - whom I've actually worked with in the past - is at least, in my eyes, an acknowledgement that the producers are truly seeing this show as more of an "Entertainment" than the "mythic creation" that Julie Taymor envisioned. -For better or worse.

Wow, I get so tired right at 10:00PM everyday. I guess that's my internal clock telling me something.
:-[
-
My internal clock is telling me we're still on page five.
-
I'm listening to a score for maybe one of the worst films made in the 1980s and maybe one of the worst ever - but the score is a good deal of fun, so maybe I'll put the thing out.
-
So, there's this guy.
He smokes, I have bad lungs.
He drinks, I have 20 years in AA (next month).
He's loud and noisy and uncontrollable. I'm trying to blend in and not be noticed around here.
