Well, you've read the notes, the notes inserted a lot of smiley faces  ;D, and now it is time for you to post until the smiley-faced cows come home.  ::)

Good morning, all! I am about to make what I hope will be my last trek to the rubble of Toyland for some time. I think I'll take the books I most want to keep and ignore the ones that are duplicates. I've written a draft of my email response to the Master Toymaker, which basically says "we've gone to other projects."

I don't know how I'm going to meet expenses, but I will try.

So, after carting home the books, I will go to Encores! and catch the matinee of WHERE'S CHARLEY?, stay for the talkback, see Rob Berman's wonderful parents, and then head back here. I have laundry tomorrow morning and a full day working on two Victor Herbert projects.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most Excellent Vibes and Xylophones To BK and DRs! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been so long since I've eaten a donut....
But, back in the day, nothing was better than a chocolate donut.
Theses days, when I indulge, I much prefer a cheese Danish.
Saturday morning greetings!  Right after I got in bed to read last night, there was a crash over on Central Avenue that knocked our power out.  Richard walked up to the corner, but couldn't really see what had happened.  The power was restored sometime during the night, but I had managed to turn our bedside lamps off so we weren't awakened.
Today I have another bookselling stint from 12noon-2pm.
Our new is scheduled to be delivered next Wednesday, the 23rd. I will spend the weekend setting it up. It should go without incident. Most of our programs are compatible with Windows 7 and the printers are as well. I have Windows with XP mode so those that are not compatible, we hope, will run in XP mode. Anthony makes many greeting cards (he could do that on the side as well as transfer LPs to CD) and lots of his saved projects are on a card program which is a few years old and according to the Windows Compatibility site the program may not operate. We shall see next week.
My shoulder seems much better. Probably like 75%.  I was able to swim yesterday. And instead of only being able to 1/3 front crawl, I was able to do 3/4 front crawl.
There was this lady swimming in the fast lane who was bugging me.
She was going so slow.  Which would have been okay except that she was ahead of me. And every time I'd get to the end, instead of waiting for me to go ahead of her she would start. But only when I got there.
Don't people know swimming etiquette? Seems like common sense to me. I always let anyone faster go ahead of me.
Title: Re: INSERT SMILEY FACE HERE
Post by: Jennifer on March 19, 2011, 07:58:31 AM
Then right after that lady left when I was resting my shoulder for 2 lengths (kicking with a flutterboard) a man comes into the fast lane. ANd he turns to me and says, "um do you know this is the fast lane? are you sure you want to be in it?"
I turned to him and said, "yes!".
It was actually funny he got there right after the slow lady. That would have made him crazy.
I told him I was just resting my sore shoulder for 2 lengths.  The thing is I would always let him go ahead of me.
Anyhow he stopped me after and looked sort of embarrassed and said, "oh you are quite fast when you do your front crawl."
Post by: Jennifer on March 19, 2011, 07:59:37 AM
I always used to go in the medium lane. Because any 20 year old guy swimmer would be much faster than me. But the people in the fast lane now are mostly not the young kids. And the people in the medium lane are so slow!  The slow lane people can barely swim! :)
But the pool is so busy in the mornings. They have baby and mom swims. ANd all the baby apparently need showers after their swim!
Title: Re: INSERT SMILEY FACE HERE
Post by: Jennifer on March 19, 2011, 08:02:11 AM
The showers were a mess. I got out after the babies were done but 10 minutes before everybody else had to get out. I had to wait 5 minutes for a shower. But by the time I got in everybody was getting out so there was a line for the showers. ANd 2 women had the nerve to open my shower door and ask if they could come in.
Most of the ladies there are sort of flabby and they just walk around naked. Sorry if i don't want anyone else in my shower. I nicely said no and said i'd hurry.
I realize that this may be sacrilege, but I just don't understand the lure of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  I have had them piping hot ("Then blow on 'em first.") and I have had them after they have cooled; and I just don't know why people love them.  I mean they are okay, they don't taste like whale blubber or anything nasty; but they are average at best.
Thursday groups of children took over the part of the pool I swim in so I moved to an empty lane.  I was doing rather well until someone joined me in my lane.  I think the etiquette at our pool is for each person to take one half of the wide lane.  I found without swimming in the middle following the black line on the bottom of the pool I can't swim in a straight line.  I kept swimming into the hard plastic lane divider.  I finally got out of the pool went to the hot tub.
That's a cue for a song but it's also to notify Mr. Kimmel that I just mailed my order for one copy of the London Cast Recording of Carnival to Kritzerland Records. It should arrive in a few days. It may be considered an important envelope  ;)
When I was on tour with Sesame Street Live we went to some Southern states with KKs. The cast was all in rapture whenever we came to a town with KKs. I just stayed on the bus and silently wondered why.
There is no way to avoid the locker room since that is the way to the pool. I always get changed there. Where do you get changed after you've swam?
And it is required to take a shower before you swim. So everyone has to use the lockers. But I would not put on my clothes without taking a shower and washing my hair. Too much chlorine.
Jennifer I just shared your shower story with Keith. ;D
Is the shower designed to be shared or is it one shower head?
Well they are redoing the ladies locker room. So right now the family locker room is the ladies locker room. So it's a bit different. Not sure what the new ladies locker room will be. But the old ladies locker room had 10 showerheads out in the open (no curtains). And then 2 curtained showers.
The family room has 3 shower rooms. 2 have doors and the other doesn't have a door.  They each have 2 showers in them. But the one I was in only one shower head works.
I do get that since there are normally 2 showerheads in a room ... they wanted to share. But since the other showerhead doesn't work, and since I think it's fair to be allowed some privacy when you're naked and showering ... I had absolutely no problem telling those ladies to wait.
Ordered London Cast of Carnival
But I do have a question:
One of my books has Golden Delicious Fish as a song added to the London production. I am wondering if this was actually a new song or was it a retitle of one of the Broadway songs as you stated yesterday:
" Interestingly, some of the song titles are slightly different on the London recording and we’ve opted to use those so that we match the way they were listed on that original LP jacket."
Good afternoon.  TOD:  I love a good old fashioned glazed doughnut, still hot and fresh.   When I was in college at KU in Lawrence, KS we used to go to Joe's Bakery at midnight and get fresh hot doughnuts.  People would line up for them, they were the best ever
"Golden Delicious" has always been a part of the score as the lead-in to "Love Makes The World Go Round." The other major change for the London cast recording is the choral extension to "Beautiful Candy."
There is no way to avoid the locker room since that is the way to the pool. I always get changed there. Where do you get changed after you've swam?
And it is required to take a shower before you swim. So everyone has to use the lockers. But I would not put on my clothes without taking a shower and washing my hair. Too much chlorine.
I go straight into the pool area.  There is a light shower for pre-washing which I also use after I get out of the pool.  There are a few changing rooms along the wall which I haven't needed yet.  I wear terry cloth clothes over my swimsuit and hang them on hooks.  Next to the hooks are individual shelves I use for my shoes.  I take a beach towel to dry off as much as possible & put my clothes back on.  I come straight home after swimming and shower here.
The one time Keith didn't drive me I needed a locker for my license, phone & keys.  I didn't go to the shower side & have no idea how it looks.
I had a great afternoon at Encores! I watched the whole show from the backstage monitor, kvelled over how beautifully the orchestra plays this score, talked to some of the cast, Rob, Jack, and Bob Kimball who showed up for the talkback.  At the end of the show I saw Jo and Emily Loesser, who had brought her two beautiful daughters Fiona and Hallie to see their grandfather's show. After the talkback, I visited with Rob Berman's fantastic parents, of whom I'm quite fond.
That's been my day, and now I'm ready to have some dinner, crah and watch some tv.
I took a break, but stayed signed in to HHW.  Nicky wanted me to sit in the recliner so that he could take a nap on my lap.
Awww.  I also took a break without signing off.  I was watching Keith trim Sherlock's hair & nails.  Sherlock is incredibly relaxed during the process.
Did some errands and whatnot and thankfully the important envelope was there.  I had some matzo brei and a bagel to tide me over to dinner.  And I've been listening to the tracks to Carnival as they come up on the iDisk - it sounds very good - it's very different vocally from the Broadway version and while I'm used to Miss Alberghetti and Mr. Orbach, their counterparts, while different, are very good, and the band sounds excellent, too.
I am reading a new (to me) novel by Michael Cox. I read his THE MEANING OF NIGHT a couple months ago and found it very interesting. It's a gothic tale of betrayal and murder. I'm now reading THE GLASS OF TIME, which is REALLY hard to put down. It takes place twenty or so years later, with a few of the same characters, and is again about betrayal and revenge, but this time the tables are turned a bit. I think some of our DRs would enjoy it. If you enjoy seeing the guilty parties get their comeuppance, then this is for you.
Jennifer I just shared your shower story with Keith. ;D
Is the shower designed to be shared or is it one shower head?
Well they are redoing the ladies locker room. So right now the family locker room is the ladies locker room. So it's a bit different. Not sure what the new ladies locker room will be. But the old ladies locker room had 10 showerheads out in the open (no curtains). And then 2 curtained showers.
The family room has 3 shower rooms. 2 have doors and the other doesn't have a door.  They each have 2 showers in them. But the one I was in only one shower head works.
I do get that since there are normally 2 showerheads in a room ... they wanted to share. But since the other showerhead doesn't work, and since I think it's fair to be allowed some privacy when you're naked and showering ... I had absolutely no problem telling those ladies to wait.
Maybe I'm a prude, but I cannot imagine someone opening up a shower and asking a complete stranger to share
Jane, I just read the reviews of THE MEANING OF NIGHT and now I see what you were referring to. Yes, the main character admits to a murder early in the story. But, as the story unfolds, he tells how he was framed and betrayed, which takes place over many years, and you come to understand why he felt compelled to murder. You may not agree, but you understand it.
I don't know your taste well enough to say whether you'd enjoy it or not. It is a highly stylized book and not for those looking for a quick read. It is not gruesome and it's fairly "clean" other than the two murders. The main character is a very likable fellow until the first murder. You would like him, I think, at least up until that point.
Well they are redoing the ladies locker room. So right now the family locker room is the ladies locker room. So it's a bit different. Not sure what the new ladies locker room will be. But the old ladies locker room had 10 showerheads out in the open (no curtains). And then 2 curtained showers.
The family room has 3 shower rooms. 2 have doors and the other doesn't have a door.  They each have 2 showers in them. But the one I was in only one shower head works.
I do get that since there are normally 2 showerheads in a room ... they wanted to share. But since the other showerhead doesn't work, and since I think it's fair to be allowed some privacy when you're naked and showering ... I had absolutely no problem telling those ladies to wait.
Maybe I'm a prude, but I cannot imagine someone opening up a shower and asking a complete stranger to share
I really don't understand the point of going to a public swimming pool if you can't shower with a group of naked strangers when you are finished!
;D
I suggest that everyone who has a camera post a photo of the supermoon tonight. Then we can see what it looks like all over.
Hmm, I wonder if Keith put the camera away.  I thought I had left it on my messy desk.  I want to remember to take it hiking as I was told today that a bear cub was spotted yesterday morning.  They had their young dog on a leash to protect it & mentioned Sherlock looked like the cub.
I want to enlarge my garden this year.  I don't have any trips planned this summer, so I'll be here to do the gardening.  I may make some trips to the lake, but nothing like beign gone a week when the weeds are growing or it really needs to be watered.  I'm also not getting the yard service I had last year.  I had the bug/weed/fertilizer/areation last year.  It's expensive to do it all, so I'm skipping it this year to see how it works.   I will keep my lawn mowing service though.  He is definitely worth it
The new Kritzerland release gave me such fond memories - I immediately emailed the chairperson of the Program Committee and asked that CARNIVAL! be placed on the suggested list for 2012.
That is an LP that I played and played and played....probably ALMOST as much as the OBC's for WEST SIDE STORY and GYPSY.
Well, lots of excitment in front on the apartment building tonight.
I heard a dog barking and someone yelling at someone else to put there hands "Out to your side!" over and over again. I looked out the window to find about 5 police cars down below, then another 5 or 6 zoomed in from down the street and joined them.
I saw them take a handcuffed man and put him into a police care. Then they brought over a bicycle and put that in the trunk. That was 1/2 hour ago. About 5 police cars (with lights flashing) are still outside, but have no idea what all the commotion was about.
Whatever happened, seems to have happened in the parking lot next to the Frances Apartments, which is next door to my apartment building.
Speaking from very recent experience: a new POS system at a restaurant + a server who's never used said system + 75 pre-theater covers + broken and leaking coffee cups + the new POS system crapping out twice during the course of the evening = a very long and frustrating restaurant shift. 8.8 hours to be exact. Back from the Gardenia.  The show went splendidly and The Singer did herself proud.  She nailed every laugh (I think some of them almost took her aback) and the songs worked like a dream as did the structure.  She let her nerves get the better of her a couple of times, but that's nitpicking and she just did a great job.  I was a very proud papa.  Lots of fun people - her family, Adryan Russ and Doug Haverty, Doug's daughter Hartley and her boyfriend, Shelly Markham, Andrea Marcovicci and her mother, Juliana Hansen - a perfect evening.
This evening I looked up into the sky, and this is what I saw:
That's so cool!  I've never had a camera that could take even halfway decent night-time pictures.
Did some errands and whatnot and thankfully the important envelope was there.  I had some matzo brei and a bagel to tide me over to dinner.  And I've been listening to the tracks to Carnival as they come up on the iDisk - it sounds very good - it's very different vocally from the Broadway version and while I'm used to Miss Alberghetti and Mr. Orbach, their counterparts, while different, are very good, and the band sounds excellent, too.
I love this show.  I can't wait!
Well, I'm real tired, so I'm heading to bed.
We have singing rehearsal tomorrow, so I should look at my music, again. ::)
