Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the noted cows come home.

Raining here in the City of Studio.  The Singer and I wanted to go out and celebrate, but she had to take her mum home and by the time that was done it was just too late - so, we may go celebrate today at some point.

Good morning, all! I slept very late, which I've not done in some time, so I am postponing laundry to tomorrow morning. So far this morning,  I've written the final draft of my resignation letter and decided to make a final book trip to Toyland. Following that, I've gor more bar counting on the Full Scores to EILEEN.

The final performance of WHERE'S CHARLEY is at 6:30 and there's a party after. Should be fun.

Oh...

And one of my cousins from Seattle is also in town this weekend, so I spent a couple of hours hanging out with him, his sister (who lives here now) and her husband (which is why she lives here now).

We had actually made plans to meet up for dinner last night, but when I checked in with them around 9:00 after my nap, I found out that all of them had ended up taking a long nap after a full day of walking around. ;) We'll try again for dinner tonight.

She's got a lovely soprano. And she ain't bad to look at either.

I'm hoping the money can be assembled to pay for a recording. The score is too good, the dance arrangements are amazing, and the London cast album from 1958 is heavily cut and the arrangements are not the originals.

I thnk Mr Bolger, if not looking 22 years of age,  is quite funny in the film of WHERE'S CHARLEY? It's very stagebound, though. The slapstick and low humor between him and Horace Cooper as the old lecher is very funny.

One thing that's amusing about the UK Carnival is that whoever did the original LP mix had a very amusing time panning the voices hard right and left - even for solos, which is very peculiar.  I guess they wanted to really use the stereo field but for solos it's really weird.  Nothing we can do about it, but it's funny and odd and kind of fun, especially when they pan people left to right like those Stereo Action albums on RCA.

Of course I was a bit on edge because all my friends have either gone under the knife or had those pellets implanted.

The waiting room was filled with patients.

As I approached the receptionist's desk, I noticed that the receptionist was a large unfriendly woman who looked like a Sumo wrestler.

I gave her my name.

In a very loud voice, the receptionist said,
"YES, SHE SAID, I HAVE YOUR NAME HERE; YOU WANT TO SEE THE DOCTOR ABOUT IMPOTENCE, RIGHT?"

All the patients in the waiting room snapped their heads around to look at me, a now very embarrassed man.  But as usual,
I recovered quickly, and in an equally loud voice replied, "NO, I'VE COME TO INQUIRE ABOUT A SEX CHANGE OPERATION.

BUT I DON'T WANT THE SAME DOCTOR THAT DID YOURS."

The room erupted in applause!

DON'T MESS WITH OLD RETIRED GUYS!!!

I received this in an email from my tax accountant. It just seemed like HHW humor:

This rain and wind is absolutely insane.  The streets branching off from Laurel Canyon are so flooded that cars attempting to turn on them suddenly have water up over their tires - completely over their tires.  I went several blocks out of my way to avoid that to the one street where the drainage works the way it's supposed to.

It's OK, DR Cillaliz.  I expected Duke to wipe the floor with Michigan, so a 2-point loss was pretty exciting.

I think SW Ohio is going to go berserk this week, because Ohio State and Kentucky both won today and will play each other later in the week.  Both schools have huge followings aroung here.

Watched a motion picture I TIVOd and part of a DVD.  Trying to catch up on this huge stack of CDs - listening to a dreadful Bill Conti score to Wrongfully Accused, one of those terrible "spoofs" that people who were six when they saw it now have a great fondness for.  Not every score needs or deserves to see the light of day, and I say that as someone who's released a fair number of obscure scores.

The party was great with an amazing spread of hors d'oeuvres. As for the show, we went out on a high. Jack Viertel said at the party that he and Jo Loesser will be meeting about getting a recording of the score. I hope it happens. I had a great time watching the show from backstage and chatting with Jill Paice, Joshie, Rebecca Luker, and Lauren Worsham, who's adorable as Amy. After I helped Joshie take the orchestra parts off the stands, we went to the party and got there before the cast. A crazy woman carrying a striped bag came up to me and asked, "Are you Howard McGillin?" I said, "I wish!" but I told Howard that I said, "He's much older."

I am leaving soon to attend a matinee performance, and then I will be going to the memorial service for Marcus Walker.  I probably won't be back until this evening.

I have returned from seeing two thirds of a not very good production of Georges Feydeau's FLEA IN HER EAR; and then I attended a memorial service that Marcus himself would have loved.  It was quite literally a SRO service  The service was held at my own church (no, I don't own it) and the main floor was full, the balcony was full and the choir loft was full.  And there was still a whole lot of people standing along the sides and in the back of the sanctuary.  There was laughter and there were tears.  Marcus would have loved it.

It was definitely spring here today.  I had the windows open most of the afternoon, took down the last of the plastic over a window and door and picked up sticks in the yard.   There are a lot of things - tuilps, daffodils, starting to come up.   It's a little early for that, but I'll take it.   It's going to be nice here for a couple more days then back to the 40s, but it feels great

There has been much discussion among my fellow attorneys who accept court appointed cases about the decision by both the state and the feds to not pay us until further legislation is passed.   Sounds like I'm not the only one worried about the tax situation

And as to the quote under your post, TCB - my mom has been known to say "I always party with the upper set.  Sometimes I forget and leave the lower set home in a glass."

ROTFLMAO!   ;D

I have heard very good reviews of THE LINCOLN LAWYER  from criminal defense lawyers.
I loved the Michael Connelly book (well, I love almost his books). I'm reading "The Refusal," another one in the series with Mickey Halloran, right now. Can't wait to see the movie.

Cilla - re the quote under your post - "Coherent" was the word I messed up on in the 8th grade school-wide spelling bee finals. :)
Mine was "embarrass," which was, well, an embarrassment.

the local grocery store has a new system - they have these little handheld scanners that you can take at the front of the store and san and bad your items as you are shopping - you scan your shopper card to take out the scanner so i automatically gives your the special sales prices as you scan -

when you are done shopping you go to any register - scan the "checkout now" bar code and put the scanner into the holder - pay and go

It was definitely faster and more convenient - but I was wondering  whether by accepting new technology I was putting someone out of a job

then while standing on line to checkout one of the young employees was talking to the young guy on line in front of me -

he went on and on loudly complaining about how much he hated his job and how he would much rather be anywhere but there ...

my guilt evaporated

Wow. That's a new system, Vixmom. I wonder how long before it makes it out west. My local store just got the self-scan checkout system a few months ago.

it is at the local Stop and Shop - I usually shop at Waldbaums where they do have 4 self checkers but only for small orders

Good Evening!

Well... Instead of sitting in front of the TV tonight, I ended up meeting some friends for dinner. Good food, good drink, good desserts(!), good friends, good times! -Just what I needed. :)

Just got a very nice e-mail from someone who read There's Mel, There's Woody and There's You - he found the book by accident while searching for his 1000th book on amazon - I guess he'd been searching for something that had 1970s stuff in it and my book came up, he checked out the "peek inside the book" function and bought it.  I like that someone who really knew nothing about me or even who I was, would take a chance and, even better, enjoy the book and take inspiration from it, which is what he wrote.

Very nice, BK. :)

I have a hankerin' for something sweet, but I'd have to take the car out of the garage and go to the mini-market at the gas station to get it.  It's still raining, but not as hard.  I shall try to be strong and not go.

The party was great with an amazing spread of hors d'oeuvres. As for the show, we went out on a high. Jack Viertel said at the party that he and Jo Loesser will be meeting about getting a recording of the score. I hope it happens.

Good luck with the recording possibility!

Today's rehearsal went fairly well.  Our music director brought his electric guitar and played most of the songs.  Our drummer was also playing today.  That give the show a very different feel than a piano or keyboard as the lead instrument.  It made me think of Spring Awakening...very modern rock sound for a story from the 1800s.  Everyone really seemed to like it.  What I wondered about was the choreography and the change in tempos that he's making.  Our choreographer was given the recording of the movie soundtrack to create choreography and the number of measures for some instrumental breaks are now different.  Hopefully, she'll be able adjust things easily.  The other issue is that his guitar and the drums are VERY LOUD.  We're all going to be singing without any microphones.  A couple of people complained tonight about feeling like they're singing too loud over the guitar and drums.
