Well, you've read the notes, the notes were big and scored, and now it is time for you to post until the big cows come home.

As I was saying...

Earlier tonight, my friend/host, David, and I attended a special event at The Publican (http://thepublicanrestaurant.com/) here in Chicago. It was a book release party/dinner, signing and reading for Gabrielle Hamilton's new memoir, "Blood, Bones & Butter (http://bloodbonesandbutter.net/).

It was truly one of the best culinary experiences I've ever, well, experienced. From making the reservation to claiming my coat at coat-check, it could not have been a more pleasant and perfect experience.

Great Beer and Wine. Great Food. Great Service. An ideal setting. And, most importantly, Great People. There were over 150 people in attendance, and it was like everyone in the room had known each other for years. I don't think I've ever walked into a restaurant before that immediately struck me with a sense of community... Until earlier tonight. Even the staff managed to sustain an air of friendliness while being attentive and professional.

I got to talk to the gentleman who raised the lamb that was being featured during the dinner. I talked to the restaurant's "beer master". Patron after patron walked up to me and my friend, David, to introduce themselves, shake hands and ask "Where are you from? What brought you here?". -And we even ended up sitting next to the couple who run Moveable Feast (http://www.moveablefeastgeneva.com/). They cater special events for Oprah and Harpo Studios, and their "Deeply Fudgy Brownies" (http://www.moveablefeastgeneva.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=31) were one of "Oprah's Favorite Things". *They asked David and myself for our business cards - "You'll have a box of brownies waiting for you when you get back to NYC." :)

The Food - and I've been posting the menu over the past couple of posts - was wonderful. I could have made a whole meal out of just the salad alone and left completely satisfied and happy. And our server, Tim, even brought me out a second serving of the dessert:

Croissaint Bread Pudding with Rhubarb, and Brown Butter Ice Cream.

And the restaurant itself was a total WOW! Even the bathrooms and wash sink were beautiful!

It really was a great evening.

I'm using the new laptop and have been for a few days.

It works very well but the one thing I can't do is get the turntable and Audacity to work together. Thankfully, I decided when I bought the laptop to get the high end version of Windows 7 which has an XP mode. I fired that up and Audacity works fine. Anthony will be able to continue his little business of transferring records and tapes to CDs.

Now I just have to wait for the desktop to arrive (tentatively Wednesday). I'm seeing High with Kathleen Turner that night so I will have to wait to set up the machine.

Good morning, all! This crisis of yesterday continues in this morning's emails. I am tired of responding with "get an attorney who deals in recordings to negotiate your contract since you don't seem to have much of a grasp on what things mean in legalese." Instead, the response is more pissing and moaning. Pick up the phone and call someone who can clarify things.

No, you wanna conga!

I feel I'm dancing on a precipice with all the work I've been doing and, since I feel this could all crash due to a well-intentioned amateur, I don't know how to proceed. I don't want to go back to the California job with its insanity and I'm not sure I want to keep the one I'm currently involved in, so I'm between rocks and hard places.

Constructively, i am doing laundry.

More coffee.

Hmm... It appears you have use the current Audacity Beta (http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Windows_7_OS) version with Windows 7, and not the 1.2.6 "stable" version.

I'm sort of surprised that she and/or they made no mention of that Bravo reality/documentary series she was featured in that focused on actors trying to get their careers going. Although, since the series only lasted a season, well...

The laundry is finished and the kitchen and bathroom mopped. When the floors are dry, I'll put the laundry away and decide what to do with my day. I think I will continue tallying the EILEEN scores until further notice.  I do believe around noon I will head to the NYPL for more research on some writers I need to discuss.

I'm also waiting to speak to the producer of the Herbert recordings about her thoughts on what's going on in Bryn Mawr.

Oh, we tried the latest version. We tried every version. It's frustrating but since we can get it to work in XP mode I'm not going to play around anymore.

I think I'll save the NYPL for tomorrow. I have my physical exam at 10:30, so I'll head to the NYPL after that. Today, I'll try to finish up the EILEEN tally.

I spoke to the record producer; we agree we have Trouble with a T and that rhymes with B and that stands for Bryn Mawr. She's got some thoughts and I'm going to continue what needs to be done before I make any decision regarding staying or going.

I'm on jury duty. I wasn't sure if I'd have Internet access here at the Hall of Justice, but I brought my lap top, just in case.  It's definitely one of the smartest decisions I've ever made. Jury duty is just breezing by, and the wireless system here doesn't screen out "entertainment" web sites, such as haineshisway.com, like my place of employment does. We just broke for lunch where I found they don't have a public microwave oven. So, I guess bringing a frozen entree from home wasn't the smartest decision I've ever made. So, I was forced to buy my lunch, but guess what they have here?! Tuna pasta salad! I got some in Bruce's honor and ate it all up - while I daydreamed I was eating sharkmeat.

Richard has been outside supervising the AAA guys who were taking the flat tire off my car and putting the spare on.  Shortly, we'll take it to our tire place so they can do what they have to do while we're in the Dayton 'burbs for my appointment.

Bye for now!

I didn't think "Waterworld" was nearly as bad as everyone said it was. It's definitely a case of managing expectations. I kept hearing it was so terrible I had no choice but be pleasantly surprised when I finally saw it on cable TV.

You said it!  I thought it looked a little low on Thursday when Mom and I were out and about.  Kept my eye on it over the weekend and, fortunately, didn't have to drive myself.  We left my car on the street to make it easier for the service guys to get to the tire, just in case.  This morning we were very glad we'd made that decision.

I have an Amazon vendor that's got me all bent out of shape: I ordered a long out of print autobiography by the man who wrote the libretto for Victor Herbert's first operetta in 1894 from this jerk. He had a good feedback rating of 98% so I went with him. The reason it's only 98%? Because his really good rating has gone to hell in the past four months! Something must have happened to him because every buyer hayes him. I can't get a response from the ass after three inquiries. and I want that damned book.

Different tastes is all. Am watching the Gene Kelly "Three Musketeers" right now and am not liking it too much, despite the presence of Gene Kelly, Lana Turner, Angela Lansbury, et al. The sword fighting scenes are telegraphed  a bit too much. Everything's a little too broad and forced. maybe if I were 8 again.

I love "The Pirate," a funny movie with one of the worst Cole porter scores ever written. The best Musketeers movie is the 2-part Richard Lester version, which is the most faithful to the novel, one of my favorite books. I believe there's a new film adaptation in the works.

There aren't many songs in the movie, but I do enjoy most of them, "Mack the Black," "Nina," "Love of My Life" and "Be a Clown."

My reading for class today: A 30-page article on Balinese cockfighting. And yes, it is a single entendre.

DR MBarnum, DR Sandra says she is not sure she can remake the floop smoothie video.

Personally I liked watching her expressions & listening to you laugh.  What she was doing didn't need any commentary.

She wanted to do it in one take -- so you'd get the chance to see her expression the first time she tried it.

I think "Jaws," "Poseidon Adventure," "The Perfect Storm," and "Titanic" would all have been better films if they had pirates in them.  :D

DR Laura, maybe DR Sandra could remake the floop smoothie video with narration, but instead have someone else drink it.

I think she would make a fine Floop Smoothie spokeswoman.

Yeah, well, she would have to find someone to drink it. And chew it. She said it was lumpy.

I am enjoying my YMCA membership and I do think I am finally getting  back into shape.

I also appreciate the "men only" hot tub, although there are occasionally some odd hot tubers. There is one elderly man who is always in it after work (which is when I normally go to the gym). He sits in it and reads the newspaper. He is very mean and will not let you turn on the water jets. So I do not use the hot tub when he is there.

So, in the very last footnote of 30 pages on cockfighting in Bali, the author sort of slips in his message: Too much of the outside world's impression of Bali is dances and touristy things. The obsession that the men have with cockfighting is something you don't find in the tourist pamphlets, yet trying to understand it goes further in explaining the massacre that occurred there in recent years.

Why did it take 30 pages to get to that point and have the author include it in a footnote?

Just asking.

The mean guy was not in the hot tub tonight, only a very plump white guy in his 50s and a well built 25 year old African American guy.

So after my work-out I climbed in and enjoyed...the enjoyment was short lived, however, because the 25 year old talked non-stop and was cheerful to the point that I thought there had to be something wrong with him.

And then the 50-something guy kept talking about God, but then he changed the subject, bragging about how his wife was half his age. He then told us that it was her birthday today and that he had asked her what it felt like to be the same age that Jesus was when he died.

Hot tubers as in hot potatoes? The word just looks weird.

And I agree it's probably the best policy to stay away from mean people in hot tubs.

OK, so you may be asked to testify in the case that he helps ensure she doesn't make it past the age that Christ died.
