Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both lime and light, and now it is time for you to post until the light cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SUSURRAS!
-
Welcome thirteen GUESTS.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
good morning, all.
-
Congrats on the Tony winner, BK. Will he/she be singing? Are you having to get rights for any music that will be taped?
-
logged on yesterday and fell asleep while catching up

Vibes & Prayers to all
-
Good morning, all! I stayed up too late reading and I slept in. I'm having one of those god-what-will-I-do-with-so-little-work days anxieties. and I wasn't sure I wanted to get out of bed. However, while the work's here, I need to pay estimated taxes and life insurance, so I'm up.
I'll work on the EILEEN Act Three Opening sequence, and see how far I get today. And I'll pay my estimated taxes. Thank you all for the sympathy last night, but the Babes In Toyland job was the one that shut down in March, putting me and four colleagues out of work. Since then, the only work I've got is for the McGlinn estate and I've put all my clleagues to work on EILEEN. The problem is, with only one job, it's hard meeting expenses, and none of the usual small jobs that come in - a concert chart here, several charts for a recording - are not coming in: Brent Barrett made two inquiries about his Christmas album being totally reorchestrated for pops concerts, but I don't thnk he's happy wth the enormous costs; Liz Callaway asked me to expand a chart I had written for her last recording for 15 players, which she then canceled because she decided that increasing the number of strings was all it (wrong!) needed; Gregg Edelman made two inquiries about work and then stopped calling. Thank God for Encores! and Rob Berman, because WHERE'S CHARLEY? has been my only additional income so far this year.
So, we get up and keep going. Jeez, I sound like WAITING FOR GODOT.
Vibes to DRs cillaliz, TCB, and Nurse Jane!
-
Wednesday morning greetings! Rob and I just saw Richard off on a road trip to northern Indiana. He has a meeting with the Bishop and will be back tomorrow evening.

Since BK is talking Charlie Chaplin today, I have a question for the group:
What is your favorite Chaplin movie?
Mine: CITY LIGHTS
Yours?
-
I always preferred standing in the wings to being in the limelight.
-
MONSIEUR VERDOUX
-
And the word of the day is: SUSURRAS!
And The Song Of The Day Is: WHISPERING
-
When I was growing up we used to regularly travel between Seattle and Salt Lake City, and on the way in Eastern Oregon is a deserted mining town called Lime. It is spectacularly ugly, home to a couple of decrepit old cabins and a largely abandoned lime processing plant. My family started joking that we could buy the town and develop it into a resort property. Then we started coming up with business names:
Limelight: the electric company
Lime Aid: the hospital
Lemon Lime: the used car place (that one was mine, I was very proud of it at age 9 or so)
-
I love Limelight! It is probably one of - if not my very - my favorite Chaplin films.
I am very excited about Guy Haines singing "Wichita Lineman" - a most excellent choice.
-
Kim and Her Kittens sounds like a rock band!
-
Well Mayor Shinn and the Quartet made the paper today!
-
"Git his credentials!" ;D
-
One of the more peculiar choices Sergio Mendes ever made for Brasil '66 was Wichita Lineman, which (barely) charted for him in the winter of 1969.
-
Quiet Wednesday around these parts.
-
Sergio's Wichita Lineman does sport a typically elegant Dave Grusin orchestration, however.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And I caught up on my sleep.
-
"I am a lime man for the county..."
-
And now I'm just staying out of the heat and in the A/C's comfort of the apartment for as long as I can today. It's HOT in The City!
-
It's difficult to pick a favorite Chaplin film, but if I had to I would say THE GREAT DICTATOR.
-
I just took a jaunt outside with an office pal to a nearby mailbox. I didn't find it too oppressively hot yet but you can tell that it's coming.
-
Great publicity shot, DR JRand!
-
bk - Have you checked with Mr. Kander or his assistant, "Bone", for any music? charts?
-
And now I'm just staying out of the heat and in the A/C's comfort of the apartment for as long as I can today. It's HOT in The City!
I had to go to Staples to enlarge 2 scores to 11x17, and I'm staying in the rest of the day!
-
Cranberries!

I'm currently chatting with two friends who want to meet for lunch. Of course, they're trying to get me to head into midtown, and I'm trying to get them to head to the UES. ;)
-
I've paid my estimated taxes, and, while I've been cleaning out my computer and my LaCie hard drive, i've been proofing the Big Dance in the opening of Act Three. Now I want some lunch.
-
Congrats on the Tony winner, BK. Will he/she be singing? Are you having to get rights for any music that will be taped?
Not quite time to divulge the nature of the show yet.
-
LOL - DR DtM - it's closer to true than you know!
-
Since BK is talking Charlie Chaplin today, I have a question for the group:
What is your favorite Chaplin movie?
Mine: CITY LIGHTS
Yours?
City Lights, always. Followed by The Circus, The Kid, and Limelight.
-
bk - Have you checked with Mr. Kander or his assistant, "Bone", for any music? charts?
Not yet - I think I'll be able to score the charts I need - plus we're doing several of the arrangements we did for Brent's album.
-
Also, I'm up after a needed good night's sleep. It's overcast here in the City of Studio.
-
BK, do you expect your web series to be weekly...monthly...whenever you darn-well feel like it??
:)

Editor Eric Bernsee has a nice OP ED piece about Ernie today in the local paper.

Maybe I will get to sleep late tomorrow morning.
-
Erasing my book so I can turn it in tonight.
-
It's already 2:15 and I've accomplished very little.

I don't do matinees. And you'd better have an understudy for me 'cause I feel some headaches comin' on.
-
John i hope you are feeling better today.
-
Bruce did you receive my book order on may 29th?
-
Regarding the heat, Richard and I were discussing last night why I was so much more tired than he, given that he'd been up since about 5am and I'd slept 'til 7:30. I pointed out that he'd had the sense to stay inside in the AC all day and I'd driven to Dayton and been out in the heat walking from and to my car several times. Today, I'm the one staying in. Rob and I have a Father's Day errand to do, but that'll be the extent of my time out of the house.

What a beautiful tribute. I got me a little teary eyed!
-
I just finished watching THE GREAT GATSBY (1949), available on YouTube in 6 parts.
This was one of those movies that I always wanted to see, but never had the opportunity.
I must admit that I was not impressed.

For those of you who think the Bacharach-David LOST HORIZON is the acme of faux-Oriental musicals, may I just say you must have never seen Desi Arnaz, Jr. and Zero Mostel in MARCO. I skimmed through it last night. I had seen a DVD years ago, a DVD so incompetently mastered it actually started out to be a Boston After Hours travelogue (I kid you not). This new(er) VCI release actually plays OK, but you kind of wish it didn't. :)
-
Thanks DR GINNY, DR MBARNUM, and DR GEORGE -

I am off to the SOLD OUT performance of THE MUSIC MAN.....

ASK BK
Any parts available for the dedicated denizens of HHW in your web series?
-
ASK BK #2
If you were going to make a movie of Murder at the Masqueres who would you cast as Patrick Bronstein?
-
ASK BK #3
If memory serves you stated that you were either going to reissue Baja Marimba's "New Deal" or another album. Wondering what was happening with that CD
-

Ditto and ditto!! ;D
-
ASK BK #4
You mentioned that you were going to reissue the Classic Broadway album any plans to remix the Cy Coleman tracks with additional instruments?
-
ASK BK #5
Any more plans to reissue any Bay Cities releases?
-
Shayne questions: Where's the amazon review? :) On to HIS questions:
Right now we're going for a well-known name for each episode - other than that there's not much, I'm afraid.
I thought of someone last night for Patrick and I can't remember who? There aren't many folks left with that style, I'm afraid.
New Deal is coming as is Classical Broadway - but no remixing or adding on Classical B'way. New Deal will have a lot of bonus material.
No other plans for Bay Cities releases at the moment.
-
RE: Charles Chaplin
There is the great BBC (I think) documentary series called The Unknown Chaplin I highly recommend
-
I've just been in Kander and Ebb land all day. This part drives me a little crazy, this narrowing down.
-
And we're STILL not cast.

Bruce did you receive my book order on may 29th?
Yes, and it was shipped a day later. Obviously it should have been there by now - we have a tracking number and the helper will see what's what when she's home later tonight.
-
I have not really seen enough Charlie Chaplin to pick a favorite movie....or....none of his films that I have seen thus far have really stuck in my memory.

And now, I'm off to see Pearl Django with Special Guest Connie Evingson (http://www.jazzalley.com/artist.asp?artistid=1004)!
Have a good rest of the evening, all!
-
I'm sorry i didn't ask sooner. sometimes mail takes longer to get to us.

My work is finished for the evening. It's time for more DUCJHESS OF DUKE STREET.

Thanks. I may try it anyway. I wasn't impressed with either of the other two I watched.
-
Another long day. Came home to try to unclog the dishwasher drain. The stuff I bought at Lowe's stinks to high heaven. I had to get the bird (and myself) away from it. I hope it works.
-
i didn't like gatsby.

correction, i have only seen the redford & farrow version.

DR Jennifer - They're still rolling that feature out. -Which is even more of a reason to regularly check your Privacy and Notification settings. -When they revamped the Groups, Events and Pages features a couple of weeks ago, I had to re-adjust all of my notification settings. Again.

Night! (And only on Page 3. Sorry, but the fumes from the drain cleaner that didn't work are keeping from the keyboard tonight. Fans are running and everything still stinks.)

You'll be glad to know that after two days at or near 100 degrees it was about 80 today and will be 59 tonight. It's a fabulous cool breeze floating in the open windows
-
JRand, I've been so obsessed with what's happening here I don't think I wished you well with Music Man. So glad to see the great photos and hear that it's going so well.
-
Our airport letters are SUX. This is one of the new flood shirts.
-
I have the face recognition thingy on my Facebook. I didn't know it was new.
It is rather nifty. When I posted my photos from Medford, Facebook automatically identified who was in the photos. If the id was correct, I just had to click "yes" or something, and it added the id to the photo for tagging purposes. I didn't have to type in anyone's name. It was magical...accept when it tried to id the wrong person to the wrong face....then it was just sort of amusing! LOL!

Okay, we are surely reaching a new low this evening and I am not so thrilled about it. This has been coming all week - the errant and truant are not helping this matter at all. I do notice that they have plenty of time for Facebook, though, so that's nice. If we hit a new low (and how can we not) then I shall be very unhappy.
-
GUESTS we've got - ten of 'em. Everyone else is a WUSSBURGER. edisaurus hasn't been here in weeks and weeks, and Pogue rarely graces us with his presence anymore. I appreciate the loyal few who are sticking with us but perhaps with Facebook it's time for all sites to give up the discussion boards. I would rather go out now (keeping the Notes, of course) than wait until we're down to ten posts from two people. It would be a shame, I must say, but if our little community has given itself over to Facebook then so be it.
-
Make that twelve GUESTS.
GUESTS are a dish best served cold.

Well, I've been on Facebook dealing with flooding issues and posting flood photos for the people who are either out fighting the flood or aren't living here anymore and want to see photos, since 7000 people displaced and a historic flood are apparently not big enough news when they happen here to get national attention.
-
I haven't been able to focus on anything else all week.
-
I tried to get work done today but found myself at lunch sitting in a chair and holding open sand bags to help a man who was bagging all by himself
-
So if I haven't been here, my excuse is an impending disaster of historical proportions.
-
How's that for an excuse :D

I've been noticing the lack of prominent national coverage too on the news. NBC did lead off tonight with a joint story about the fires in Arizona and the floods along the Missouri river, but it has been a bit surprising just how much covering the flooding has not been receiving. -Alas, here in NYC, all the news outlets seems to be focusing on Rep. Weiner's out-of-focus wiener.

I got it recorded but couldn't figure out how to play it back
-
I am very irritated by the lack of news coverage for a really basic reason. I know of one family who was vacationing and didn't think it was important to get back because they hadn't heard anything on the news. I guess it took a lot of convincing and by the time they got back they had 48 hours to move everything out of the house and find a place to live before they were told if you leave your house again you can't come back. It's a little hard to move when you can't go back to your house.
This is the only family I know of, but it easily could have happened to other people. A little national coverage would have been good. But no...there was a weiner on the loose. That's much more important. sheesh!

I haven't gotten anything done all week, or last week for that matter. I am in desperate need of the next few days out of town, hanging out with a 4 year old and eating cheese in Wisconsin. I am going to miss taking photos for everyone. I have daily photos of the same locations which really show the rising water. I'll be missing at least 2 days, but many other people take photos from the same spots, so I can probably fill it in.
-
The funny thing is there is a woman who works for "THE" photographer in town who documents everything that happens. I'll take a photo and the next day I see that she took almost the same shot a day later. LOL. I was doing photos from behind a group of people looking at the water. Today she started shooting the same style. I love it.
-
I am really enjoying the photography part of this and people are starting to look forward to my daily posts. I'm posting and giving permission to share with anyone (not that you need it on facebook). It's getting my photograpy out there. When this is all said and done, I'm considering making a book. Not sure how difficult that would be, but I could do a book of my photos of the flood. I'm sure I could sell it locally. Just a thought at this point
-
It is fun to be known as a photographer though, I've even had people tell me I'm a better photographer than the woman I was talking about. That really makes me feel good.
-
DR Jose, I'll try it again. It's a tribute to Les Paul, you know.
-
This one is being sold by high school students for flood relief
-
Oh and I heard Joplin Mo send us a truck load of water today. Funny, the Salvation Army gave out 6000 bottles of water yesterday and 3000 bottles of gatorade to the volunteers working on sandbagging, leveee building, moving people out of homes etc. 7000 people are displaced in South Dakota near here, 2000 homes and businesses have been evacuated or are in danger,.. yet we aren't a national story. We've even had one death from flood prep. Oh well. Guess i'll just eat cheese
-
Got the Doodle to work....cool to watch it play
-
Ok, time to get some sleep. I'm working in the morning then need to pack, clean up the house and try to make the rounds with the camera before I head out of town. Or am carried out by the heards of mosquitos
-
I gotta tell you.
-
The errant and truant are a dish best served cold.
-
Catastrophies I understand. People who've just made Facebook their 24 hour a day home, not so much.
-
We've still got us eleven GUESTS - not much for them to read today.
-
And now, I'm off to see Pearl Django with Special Guest Connie Evingson (http://www.jazzalley.com/artist.asp?artistid=1004)!
Have a good rest of the evening, all!
I got back about a half hour ago and it was a wonderful concert! It wasn't really Pearl Django with special guest Connie Evingson, it was pretty much Connie backed by Pearl Django. Either way, it was a great concert.
-
It looked like there might not be a big crowd, but by the time the show started, it was filled. The food was pretty good and, of course, expensive. A good time was had by all. :D
-
I'm here, not on Facebook. Although a HHW app for the iPhone would be very much utilized, if there was one.
-

At least, we got to Page 5.

Barely.

I work with a woman who has started her own business taking stock photos. She has a flickr account and has actually sold some photos. Good luck!
-
If only four more posts (after this one) are posted, we will pass the lowest day of posts of 129.
-
So, since I have nothing better to do...
-
Here we go!
-
This post ties with the lowest day of posts!
-
And one for Mahler!
;)
-
Now back to page 3 to ketchup on everything.

Do you have the automatic time stamp on the photo feature? You could add that and people would see that your picture came first.
-
How's that for an excuse :D
That's a darned good excuse. :)
