Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a good thing, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home.  And that's a good thing.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And my train should have left over an hour ago. If we start moving by 6:15, I could make it to Arena just in time for my first rehearsal. Otherwise...

Apparently, Amtrak lost power on the tracks between NYC and Philly sometime around 1:00am. They are still fixing said problem. :-\

Good morning, all! Another night of truly weird dreams, so I was glad to be out pof bed at 7:15 to ponder the peculiarities of human existence and plan my day. This morning I have to make a fast trip to Toyland to check out the office; I haven't been there in over a week, so I hope all is well there. There's been no word from either California or Cambridge office about our review or status, but that's par for this Institute.

DR JRand60, Esther Lintz  of Center Point may be a good Christian woman but she's also a fool. Of course, that's my opinion of anyone who waves their "Christianity" in front of my face like a crucifix in front of a vampire.

DR MBarnum, how did your stripper react when he discovered that you are not a top but a fourteen-year-old girl? Did he offer to buy you a malt?

Enough insults. Let's go to the TOD:
HAIR: I keep hoping we'll get a DVD relase with all the filmed and unused songs as a Special Feature; my friend Karen was Treat Williams' dresser, and I know that "Frank Mills" was filmed in three different locations and "Air" was filmed in a traffic jam on the George Washington Bridge. The soundtrack recording also features Charlotte Rae singing "My Conviction," which I gather took place at the party they crash.
   THE STRAWBERRY STATEMENT

TOD: I saw "Hair" the movie long before I saw the stage show. And I liked a lot of it. But, as Pauline Kael wrote, too much of it is forced. Why should we care about a woman we don't know showing up to sing "Easy to Be Hard"? Especially those of us who care about strangers?

Still, the dancing and the constant motion gave me plenty of eye candy to enjoy.

I haven't seen it since it came out, but it may be time to give it another view.

Other remnants of the era that I love are rather lovingly captured on Liz Callaway's CD of sixties music.

Good Morning, once again.

My 4:40am train finally left Penn Station at 6:50. And we just left Philadelphia about ten minutes ago, so there's a good chance I'll be at Arena by 10:30. Still late, but not totally schedule-upsetting. I've been emailing my stage manager and conductor every now and then with updates. Of course, they're probably waking up just about now and haven't checked their email... But, just like "Violet", I am on my way. ;)

TOD:

Movies:
HAROLD AND MAUDE
THE STRAWBERRY STATEMENT
ALICE'S RESTAURANT
WOODSTOCK

I can't quite include HAIR in a list of Flower Power movies because it's actually a period piece, though I think it does a good job at recreating the 60's.

Songs:
Jennifer Juniper -- Donovan
Feelin' Groovy -- Simon and Garfunkel
Both Sides Now -- Judy Collins
A Beautiful Morning -- The Rascals
Morning Has Broken -- Cat Stevens

I had never seen HAIR the original stage musical but I was in love with the score by the time the movie came out in '79.  While I liked a lot of it, I found stitching it to a literal story kind of weighed it down.  And the satirical bits were pretty heavyhanded.  I spent a lot of the time watching the movie looking for my friends who were extras in the opening and Be-In scenes (they don't show up.)

When the movie began playing on cable, I watched it incessantly.  I was obsessed with it.  I wanted to be a hippie.  But like any other obsession, it eventually wore off after a while...

I didn't get a chance to see the recent B'way revival, but the tour is coming to Philly this year (it's also back on B'way this summer, so who knows?)

Reviewed a really interesting 2008 (hmmm. . .) film yesterday which WWII film lovers will like:  MAX MANUS, MAN OF WAR.  Most expensive Norwegian film yet made, impeccably done, about a real life Norwegian resistance fighter.  Absolutely gorgeous despite being occasionally bloody and a fascinating character study.

In the Hilarious But True Department, our new tenants called yesterday from California where they live to discuss a couple of things and it came up that they were in Ventura so that the husband could go to a Rush concert whilst the wife shopped in Santa Barbara.  I mentioned that I had reviewed the recent Rush audio Blu-ray of Moving Pictures and I then got a long, accolade filled email from the husband, who had actually read my review some time ago.  Though he's more or less my age, he is such a Rush fan that he told me he can play the entire album of Moving Pictures "note for note," which strikes me as funny.

We had a storm last night.  I had 2 fairly good sized limbs go down and a flood through the basement.   I was up unitl 2:00 AM working on the water situation.  There is only one solution. I have to rip out all the carpet, tear out the drywall and start over.  I'm not looking forward to it but there really is no choice.  It was 2 rooms instead of one this time, but we did have 2 1/2 inches of rain in about 45 minutes.

They started a new thing here where they blow the tornado sirens when there will be high straight line winds.  The theory is that many people don't take cover when there are straight line winds.  They were about 70 mph last night, so the sirens were blaring.   The cats and I were in the basement....which is how I knew the water was pouring in

Yes. I did.  A couple years ago.  I never liked the drywall job but it really did look lots better, and I really do like the carpet, but it's been wet more than once and it's stinky.  I just can't take the chance of moldy drywall when I know the water was coming down the walls. I'll tear out the carpet tonight and then cut along the bottom of the wall to see how high any mold or mildew goes.  I may just demo the whole room again, paint the walls and the floor and use area rugs.

I will say if you talked to me this morning it would not have been pleasant.  I was at my wit's end, tired of the work I have to do, tired of being fat, tired of being frustrated and really needed to just cry or yell or something.   Instead I came to work.  The distraction is working wonders.

Maybe this is a sign these people will stay through their lease.

So everyone I've talked to today about my basement seems to be playing "My disaster beats your disaster".   I used to be very irritated by it, now it makes me laugh.  some valve on my brother's sump pump blew last night and he had a geyser in his basment.  It didn't flood much, but it was a funny story to hear

NNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

It also sounds like many other folks have the same problem I do.  The ground is just too saturated to take the water and with that much water that fast, there isn't much you can do.  So, I'm going to quit whining about how no one helps when I need it even though I help everyone else and just take my time and fix it.

Thanks Jane and George.  I'm feeling better about all of it.  Probably because the rain went in LOTS of basements here last night.  A young prosecutor said "But you shouldn't have water in your basement. why is it there?"  I said "Because it rained"  She said "But why? it should be able to rain without going in your basement."  I just walked away.

I just made an appointment for Monday to get the oil changed on my car & had to add an extra 2 hours to the time to do the latest Toyota recall.  I figure that gives us a few days to drive the car & make sure there aren't any problems before I lend it to Bryan for the summer.  I had planned to wait until I can drive again, now I need Craig to take me.  At least the car dealership is across the street from the mall & walking distance to Target.  Craig needs summer clothes that fit.

I have discovered the coolest thing that I never knew existed,  handy dandy little things called HomePlugs.  You plug them into a wall outlet, put an ethernet cable into your router, and then there's another HomePlug you can take to any other room with a wall plug and you can "hard wire" any devices into your LAN with another ethernet cable.  We've been using it all over the house to do firmware updates where our wireless network won't reach and it's been doing great.

We almost purchased this the other day until we learned our measly 1.5 MB (download speed) can't keep up with it making it useless.  What is your speed with your new Comcast?

I'm back from the dentist and I don't have to have as much work done as I thought but it will still be quite a few dollars. Oh, well. That's what happens when you don't have dental insurance and you put things off.

Since so many people these days don't have dental insurance it'd be good to see more "affordable" dentists. I had a lot of work done last year with a dentist who was less than half the price of the first dentist I consulted--and I've found nothing wrong with her work.

Long day/story, short:

-My train was supposed to leave at 4:40am this past morning. Due to a blown transformer in New Jersey, it did not leave until 6:50am.
-My train pulled into DC's Union Station at 10:10am. Rehearsal started at 10:00am. I emailed and texted updates to my stage manager and music director along the way. It was going to be all right.
-I hailed a cab at 10:15am.
-Arrived at Arena Stage at 10:25am.
-Started playing dance rehearsal - the Dream Ballet - at 10:30.
-Lunch was from 1:00pm-3:00pm. -It was long break today in order to let people take care of administrative stuff - myself included.
-Rehearsal was scheduled to end at 7:00pm, but we ended up finishing up at 6:15pm.
-After some discussions about tomorrow's schedule, I headed for the subway around 7:00pm.
-My brother picked me up from the Vienna Metro Station at 7:45.
-At 8:15pm I zonked out on the couch until about 15 minutes ago.

And... Before I go back to bed....

*Even though my train left late, it turned out we were the first train out of Penn Station after the power had been restored. From the updates I was reading along the way, a good number of the trains after mine were either further delayed or cancelled.

Man, can I tell I'm going to be 50 in a couple weeks.   Tonight I took all the carpeting out of the room I remodeled.  I think some of it could have been saved, but I did it myself, so the only way I can do it is to cut it in pieces.  I will say it looks good and doesn't really smell, but it's been wet so it's going.   I think the pad is what was stinky.  That's gone too as is the tack strip that was glued and nailed into the cement floor.   The carpet from the store room/ cats potty room was soaked.  I ripped up most of it, the rest is under a plastic shelf full of stuff and I'm just not up to it, but the worst of all of it is in the garage now.   It was a lot of work, but the worst of it is done

Interesting, a woman who has become a facebook friend through the flood - I think she's related to the people I did some sandbagging for- said she'd help me starting on Thursday.  I may have the bulk of it done by then, but I didn't say no.  I'm not very good at asking for help, and I really could use some

Help vibes for DR CILLA LIZ.....

Shelf wise.....do what I did - buy another set of plastic shelves, put it on the other side of the room.....move all of the stuff to it.....and put the empty shelves someplace else.....no handling everything twice.....and you end up with 4 new shelves.

Rehearsal tonight was music....Follow Me and C'est Moi, both of which sound very nice.

CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN was NOT rehearsing.....there is trouble there, but I am not sure what to do about it.....I am not the only one who thinks so......we shall see.

I don't think they've had 10 rehearsals since the show was cast.

That's a great idea.  I do have to empty some wooden shelves that someone of questionable intelligence built directly in front of a window with a window well.  That's where the leak in that room came from.  By directly in front I mean put a board over the window that is still there and built shelves.  It's pretty goofy

Truth be told,  while I liked the carpeting...I think I'm going to like painted concrete with an area rug made from the extra carpeting they left for me when they installed the basement carpet I'm ripping out even better.  So, I'll still get my carpet, but if water starts coming in, i can just roll it up and it won't get wet

The walls are going to be a lot of work and I'm not sure how I'm going to do it all, but I'm starting to look forward to it. I'm thinking that it might be kind of cool to keep all the nails in the supports for the drywall.  They are more like screws, I discovered tonight I can rip out the metal support and leave the screw or bolt or whatever it is.  It would look sort of goofy, but man, think of all the places I could hang pictures!

Well, the fire that started on May 8 in the extreme southeastern corner of Arizona is now 95 percent contained. It has burned 222,954 acres. Hopefully it will be totally contained tomorrow.

The are going to increase the release of water from Gavin's Point Dam by 10,000 cubic feet per second to 160,000 cubic feet per second.  Wish we could send it to put out the fires

Of course they told everyone they would never increase it beyond the record of 150,000.  That's one of many things we are told and then it changes for the worst.  Luckily most people planned for much worse than we've had so far. No one trusted the corps.  unfortunately the people in Riverside were told the sewer line would never back up....it backed up into 15 homes last night.  I think this is going to be a long summer

I did not get the tree limbs that fell in the storm cut into 4 foot segments and stuffed into my garbage so that they would be picked up in the morning.  I decided the basement was more important.   I'll do it over the weekend

Oh, here's a nice tidbit in the news tonight.

Cillaliz, do you remember Pinnacle Peak in north Scottsdale? Well, some yahoo decided it would be a swell idea to light some FIREWORKS. Luckily they were able to put the fire out quickly.

I don't know what the temperature is, but it's pretty warm here...certainly not as warm as others have posted about, but for Tumwater, it's pretty warm. :)

Maybe it's just my place.  But I do have my skylight open.  That should help when I go to sleep...which will be right now.  I can barely keep my eyes open.
