As for the Topic of the Day...

If there's ice cream in the freezer... And sometimes all I need is just one generous spoonful to satisfy my craving.

Otherwise, usually some sort of potato chip. Whatever happened to catch my eye while I was shopping.

I also love potato chips, but I never keep them around the house except when entertaining.

Good morning, all! I slept late: I stayed up too late reading, and I slept badly with many strange and unsettling dreams, of which I now remember nothing. Then, when I decided to get out of bed, I wandered around blindly because during the night I went back to bed, wearing my glasses, and I lost them in the bedding. I had to first locate an old pair before I could search for the good ones. Oy! So, that's my morning, and I'm a bit grumpy/

Next up: laundry.

I have proofing of the endless Act Two Finale here, and there's a new number from EILEEN ready to be downloaded and printed as well. Tonight, I'm having dinner at Lorraine Serabian's apartment on the East Side. It will be fun to visit.

First, coffee.

Cilla, just saw your "ants" post and in the small world, we had an outbreak here last night, too.  We encountered a lot (as in a LOT) of tiny ants here last summer in our first year here.  We had an organic pest control company (yes, there are such things) come out and treat.  That helped but didn't totally alleviate the issue.  However, they told us it is an absolute mistake to kill/drown the ants (which we had been doing, too).  All that does is signal the Queen to send out more when her "scouts" don't return with food/info.  So what we did was buy some of those little "gel" baits, and I actually open them up and place little bits of the gel where I see the ants.  Typically they swarm the gel for about 30 minutes, then disappear and we don't see them in that area again.

And BTW the gel we have (I think the brand name is Grant's) specifically states it's non-toxic to pets and humans.

Last night on the 6:00 news there was the saddest story about this beautiful black kitten, now around 11 weeks old, that some son of a bitch had thrown out the window of a moving car on the freeway three weeks ago. Luckily, the kitten survived, but it has a broken leg and required surgery to heal several perforated organs. While I'm rather immune to the cruelty we're able to inflict, these random acts of such ugly behavior really stun me.

Ben, I put this off for years, trying one natural remedy after another with middling success, but I finally relented and went on Simvastatin, and a tiny, tiny dose at that, about 4 months ago to improve my cholesterol.  It dropped hundreds of points almost overnight, and my lipids also shrank considerably.  In fact my doctor said he had never seen such results in 30 years of practice.  I actually have to go back for a blood test this morning, as my liver enzymes are just slightly out of whack, one of the side effects.

I'll ask my doctor about Simvastatin. Right now I'm taking fish oil, which is technically a blood thinner and I bruise easily, like DR Ginny. About two weeks ago I had a black eye and people kept asking what happened. I still don't know. I must have rubbed my eye too roughly in the middle of the night because I went to bed without a black eye and I woke up with one!

Simvastatin is the generic for Zocor, IIRC.  It's cheap (my 90 day prescription is $4).

I've tried everything, Ben, plus I'm a vegetarian and so eat no red meat, a major cholesterol contributor.  I still do fish oil and oatmeal, but other things I've done are Guggul, Red Yeast Rice (which did help a little), plant sterols, etc., etc.  My doctor long ago determined I had no dietary reasons for having such high cholesterol, so he absolved me from guilt on that regard.  I later found out both of my sisters have been on Simvastatin for years.

I also have genetic cholesterol. It took a few years before my meds made a difference. I try to eat oatmeal, but it is too hot now.

I am not complaining about the heat, by the way. That was merely an observation.

Ben, I thought you had a good cholesterol report a while back.

There was a better report a while ago but I've slipped and the last test was borderline bad and my doctor said I had to be more conscientious and I agree. I don't exercise as often as I should and I cheat on my diet. I have pretty much given up eating known cheese but when I'm out I don't pay that much attention (not that cheese is the only culprit). Like you and JMK I have genetic high cholesterol. I have to be better about this. The last thing I need is a heart attack!

I actually cut out all (or virtually all) "real" dairy over the past 5 years in an attempt to bring down my cholesterol, and nothing worked.  That was one of the first clues that mine was not dietarily related.  In fact, since going on Simvastatin one of my great joys has been having "real" cheese again, after years of soy and almond cheeses.  (As I've posted, the almond cheese isn't half bad).

DR George! How completely stupid! Someone should have warned you. Didn't your doctor give you a list of instructions?

I was nearly 30 when mine were removed, and about the third day I was home I had a hemorrhage leate in the evening. My mother took me to the ER to have my throat packed, and my ENT surgeon was luckily there dealing with a tonselectomy by another surgeon who had done such a hatchet job the kid had lost several pints of blood.

My other memory of that tonselectomy is that DR Ginny came to visit and brought me a copy of THE SHINING to read. I finished it in one night because i was too terrified to sleep and, as soon as I was up and about, I hit the public library for CARRIE and 'SALEM'S LOT.

Yes, I was very stupid.  It was my fault.  I'm sure that the doctor(s) told me what not to do, but I probably felt that it was healed enough and I could just chew it all up well enough...but I didn't. ::)

Fortunately, I didn't hemorrhage, it just scraped the back of my throat where/when one shouldn't be scraped.

Anyone I knew who had a tonsillectomy stayed on soothing foods for a long time, especially the adults.  I'm sorry to say I didn't have mine out when I was young or as a young adult.  I hope I never have problems with them again.

Good grief!  Simvastatin seems to have every side effect known to man; except for the four hour erections.

Did you try getting fresh with Ant?

When I first saw "Simvastatin" I wondered if it was an Eastern European city

I also have genetic cholesterol. It took a few years before my meds made a difference. I try to eat oatmeal, but it is too hot now.

I am not complaining about the heat, by the way. That was merely an observation.

DR TCB - Exactly! Yes...

I will at the theatre for all eight shows a week once we open. Primarily, I will be playing keyboard in the band/orchestra, but there will be a couple of times when I will be conducting so that the Musical Director can go out into the house and actually watch and listen to the show. -And I have an "understudy" who will play when I'm on the podium.

Last night, Nicky woke me up from a sound sleep.  I couldn't imagine what could possibly be wrong at that time of night.  The time was exactly... ah, .............where is my digital clock radio?  Automatic first reaction, turn on my lamp next to my bed.  My light doesn't work.  A power failure on a warm summer night?  Yep.  Nicky was crying for his breakfast because it was now seven o'clock in the morning!  I was supposed to be at work two hours ago!!

I guess the power failure happened at around 3:00 a.m..  The power was still off at around 8:30 when I checked in with our newspaper from work.  Weird feeling all day.  Everything was just a little bit off-kilter.

I had a good day at physical therapy.  I even got to lift a one pound weight with my right arm.  He was able to flex my left wrist more, do more stretches with the right shoulder, and even stretch & exercise my left arm some.

I then had a nice walk to the orthopedist's office.  I was in and out in ten minutes.  I don't have to wear the splint unless I feel the need to, which I had been using less & less anyway.  I think I'll still wear it at night as to not accidentally bend my wrist while I sleep.

When I originally saw him & received the diagnoses for the bruised tendon he couldn't really examine it properly due to my level of pain & inability to do anything with it.  Today I was able to follow his directions, including making a muscle, which showed him my tendon wasn't bruised.  I just have a whopper of a bruised arm. :)  This means even though I do something that hurts I'm not damaging my tendon. :D

From what Jane said, I am guessing that she goes to a Bernise Mountain Dog Page?  And that is where she talks to other people?  Is that what I was missing?

Very good news!!

After another walk I met up with Craig who brought me home.  After a shower (much easier to wash my hair today) and a snack Craig kept me company while I took a short drive.  I didn't need him to take over for me and will be able to drive my car tomorrow.  I need to take it to get detailed.  After I drop it off I'll walk over to the hospital to get routine blood work done (speaking of cholesterol I haven't a clue what mine is.)  I will then walk to get my bangs trimmed & where Craig will pick me up to bring me home.  I'll be getting my exercise tomorrow.

Yes, they are loving and cuddly. They usually do want to get down and play, though. The Pastor's Wife held them for a while. I just can't get them to come more than a couple of feet out into the hallway.

I did bring Purrcy out here a few minutes ago. He explored for a while. They he let out a little squeaky cry. Kim was out here in seconds to see what I was doing to him. She trilled and he mewed, and they walked back to the kitten room.

And that's my other post. :D

To continue...I do know the musical, Ruthless.  She also asked if I had the recording, and, of course, I do.  She then asked if she could borrow it and I loaned it to her today (she asked me yesterday).  Before I gave it to her, I saved MP3s of the CD on my work computer so that I could listen to it while she was borrowing it (since I brought it here, might as well).  So, I've been listening to it.  I really like this recording.

Well, I just realized something today, after knowing about and listening to Ruthless! The Musical! since it was first released in 1994...seventeen years ago:  SPOILERS!!

There's a lot of back-stabbing and murder and the characters are ruthless in getting what they want.  Judy Denmark (Tina's mother) has no mother of her own (or so she thinks) and in the second act, she becomes Ginger Del Marco.  Sylvia St. Croix, the talent scout, turns out to be the former Ruth Del Marco AND Judy's mother (I hope I got that right)!  But for all those years, Judy had no mother, so that made her Ruth-less!  I never made that connection!

;D

I am so glad that I stained the garage when I did.  Tomorrow afternoon I can start on some inside projects, I think I'll go through my closet and separate the clothes into "give to mom or my sister" "save for when skinny again" "send to goodwill" and keep in the closet.   I realize this isn't the sort of activity that people equate with vacation, but it makes me very happy so I really don't care.   Besides it's too darn hot to be outside

For example, someone posts that edisaurus is dealing with some personal stuff and doing a movie.  That's fine, but then why is she all over Facebook?  You see, you see?  I think people hang out now on Facebook because they think it's about THEM.  Note to errant and truant people on Facebook - it's more about you HERE than there.  There are, for example, I don't know, a gazillion people on Facebook.

I don't like quoting from people's personal emails, but since you continually carp on this, here's what she wrote to me:

It's hard to just drop in on HHW...it's kind of like a serial vs. episodic tv. FB is something I can pop in and send a message and sort of "graze" superfically, but HHW requires more commitment (one of the things I love about it) and I feel that I can't do justice to it right now. I'm also going through some depressing personal stuff right now that I hope will sort itself out and have been somewhat of a hermit, but hope to eventually come out of it.

Okay?
