Well, you've read the notes, the Shadow knows you've read the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the evil cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DEROGATE!
-
Welcome seventeen GUESTS.
-
The Exploding Eggplant - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of GUESTS?
-
The BK knows.
-
good early morning to all
It was too short a visit. Many family matters to take care.
I return to the USA tody.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I'm sitting on the patio eating my oatmeal with walnuts and a chopped apple and cinnamon with a cup of coffee.
The Internet signal is strong and I'm listening to Showtime on Radio Wales while the rest of the house sleeps. It's very nice right now. The weather is beautiful and I'm happy.
-
I'm sitting on the patio eating my oatmeal with walnuts and a chopped apple and cinnamon with a cup of coffee.
As I read this, the music of "I'm leaning on a lamp post" just popped into my head.
-
Morning Fred.
I'm finished with the oatmeal, everyone else is still asleep and now I'm listening to Desmond Carrington.
Beverley Humphreys had a great interview with Leslie Caron on her program
Showtime (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0125cg0/Showtime_02_07_2011/)

Today we're visiting a dear friend who lives in Smithtown. We will be seeing Beginners, the Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor film and then we will have dinner.
Tomorrow Ant's Uncle and Aunt are coming over for a barbecue. No corn on the cob for me!
-
Really? A hovering helicopter at 4:15 a.m.?
-
Wednesday I have to go back to the city for more work on the temporary crown. I have the week off so I will come back out to LI on Thursday.
-
Piggybacking is fun!
-
And now, au revoir.
-
Good morning, all! I slept rather well, but around 7:30 am, my mind went into overdrive and Idecided it was time to get up and get to work. I was working on the Act Two Finale of EILEEN, but I've decided it is more important to put that aside and finish proofing "The Irish Have A Great Day Tonight"; it's the only song frm the overture I have not proofed, and if I do it today and send it to London, we can then copy the overture and consider Act One finished.
Now tha I have a working plan of attack, I am off to work.
I have nothing new to report since my thoughts on DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY, so I will have some coffee and work on a score.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Four papers down, two to go. That's my world for another week.
-
I remember enjoying "The Shadow" when it first came out for the same reasons you cited, BK. I loved the pneumatic tubes in the production design and Baldwin. But the script: weak at best. And it's too bad. It could have made a fun series.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it's definitely morning.
-
DR Michael S - ~~~~~Have a safe and timely return to the US today.~~~~~
-
DR elmore - As for the opening of Death Takes A Holiday, I loved the song. However, the staging... All of those chairs! ;)
-
Safe travels, Michael S.!
-
Really? A hovering helicopter at 4:15 a.m.?
Was it the Game Warden again?
-
DR elmore - As for the opening of Death Takes A Holiday, I loved the song. However, the staging... All of those chairs! ;)
I thought the chairs made a very economic and imaginative automobile. And the accident was well staged.
It's pourng outside, so I may change my travel plans today.
-
OH!
I was listening to the radio, and they started talking about thunderstorms and rain... But when I looked out the window here, it looked very clear - and I had just seen the weather report on TV which also called for a clear day...
Then I realized I was listening to the live-stream of WNYC on the interwebs. Spoo! ;)
-
Okey-Doke...
Time to get ready to head back into Southwest DC.
Laters...
-
I wish, Jose. I wish.
-
If my back will hold out, I'll do some trimming this week and call the Game Warden to see how my case is progressing.
-
Good morning! DR Jose,I hate to tell you but the forecast for this area (DC) calls for thunderstorms too.
-
Only a slight chance of rain here. Maybe another nice dust storm, though.
-
The downpour is over, so I think I will head down to Toyland, proof this number, use the office scanner, and email it to Curtis in London.
I'll post when I arrive.
-
DR JMK - I used Open Office for my computer that had WORKS instead of WORD.....you can save documents as WORD documents if you wish....and it's free.
-
Greetings from Toyland! The office is still here: no breakins, no damage. No complaints.
-
DR JMK - I used Open Office for my computer that had WORKS instead of WORD.....you can save documents as WORD documents if you wish....and it's free.
Oh, sure, now you tell me. ;D
-
I slept in (for me, anyway--until almost 7). I have to work this morning and then come home and work some more, but at least that involves watching tv. :)
Betsy and Zach return from Wisconsin tomorrow. I just read about huge storms in Wisconsin, but I don't think they were where my family is thankfully.
Zach insisted that Betsy take him into the little town by her parents' cabin last night as he had spotted a traffic sign that said ITS THE LAW. He took a Sharpie and amended it to say IT'S THE LAW. That's my boy. :)

I am sonically reliving the 80's this morning courtesy of some Level 42.
-
Good Morning. A lovely day is upon us here in Foster City,CA. Work this morning, dog park and probably recording THe Wiz and probably parts of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown for use at camp this week. I get very "recording shy", so I'm hoping this will be stress-less and easy. I have a party to go to this afternoon, which I kinda don't want to go to, but i will anyway. The reasoning is selfish and really has to do with certain parties involved not removing certain ex's from their Facebook - and inviting certain ex's to said party (in which he has declined attendance). I just need to get over that and let my friend take care of this like she should :)
Enough!!! Have a great day.
-
I am sonically reliving the 80's this morning courtesy of some Level 42.
I have no idea what this means.
Don't try to explain. I still probably wouldn't understand.
-
Oh wow, LEVEL 42...hadn't though of that group in many years....loved this song of there...

DR Laura, surely you didn't get through the 1980s without hearing this song a few thousand times.

Came across this very touching, and sad, story about a gay serviceman yesterday.

DR Laura, surely you didn't get through the 1980s without hearing this song a few thousand times.
I was listening to Kermit and Bert and Ernie during the 1980s. I didn't hear any grown-up music at all.
-
I recall listening to THE SHADOW on the radio during the mid 1940s.
I don't think Orson Welles was still doing it then, was he?
-
I did not care for the Alec Baldwin movie at all.
-
I finished watching DAMAGES, Season 3 last night.
Great show!
-
elmore! What happened to those payments you have been sending me since April? Bummer!
-
BK, if you truly stop eating salads, then all the salads will be eaten at Facebook!

I'm up, I'm up. Finally a great night's sleep and boy are my arms tired.
-
It's already seventy-four in the house, which means it's probably in the mid-90s outside.
-
Guess I'll jog before it gets into the hundreds.
-
Good morning, everyone.
I have nothing to report, except that I need to get into the shower and wash my hair. (Isn't that fascinating?)
-
And the word of the day is: DEROGATE!
And the song of the day is "It's Raining Men"

The Exploding Eggplant - that's the title of my next novel.
Which is the sequel to Betty MacDonald's hilarious novel THE EGGPLANT AND I.

Gee, for some reason I thought Leslie Caron had passed away. Maybe Ms Humphreys' is even more talented than I thought.

Really? A hovering helicopter at 4:15 a.m.?
Be on the lookout for escaped convicts in pink underwear.

Aargh. I dropped my handy dandy new smartphone on the sidewalk, and it is now my former handy dandy new smartphone. Thankfully we were due an upgrade on Gabe's, so I just ordered a new one for me and will switch it to my number when it comes. Note to self--don't drop phone on sidewalk.
-
Just read aloud the contextual commentary for the Gardenia show and, as always, made little additions, deletions, and smoothed it all out.

I should have figured that if it was a favorite of MBarnum, that I would have never heard of it.
-
It's good to be home. I've earned my pay today, and now I can spend the rest of it doing what I want to do.
-
Great! Th military jets from Joint Base Lewis-McChord are practicing for tomorrow's air show!
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We are back from Lima, by way of Kroger. I bought the ingredients for a blueberry pie to take to our friends' cookout tomorrow. After a nap, I'll make the pie...

Awaiting the arrival of my parents

I think Nicky and I are going to go into the living room and watch the Mariners. I shall return!

Well, my work on JUBILEE for Ohio Light Opera got a "lackluster" review, although he liked Tommy Krasker's overlong libretto (he's restored all those records so he must be in the know, right?) and the cast and production. Since I don't know if the OLO orchestra is playing what I wrote or revisions by someone else, as I suspect, I'm a bit bummed.
-
From DR Laura:
I have a few wee eggplants in my garden. Should I eat them while they are small?
My master gardener is on the road with Craig trimming back the blackberries bushes so they don't scratch our cars or I would ask him. We tend to purchase larger eggplant.
-
Don't be bummed about a review - most reviewers know little, especially those out of town.
-
Back from an insanely hard four-mile jog - way too hot and from now on it's early morning or late afternoon for all jogs.
-
Note to self--don't drop phone on sidewalk.
... and remember to take the phone out of your pocket before you fall into the neighbor's turtle pond.

DR Jose Bryan was always a night owl.
Capers!!!! Not in the Romanian dish ;D It is not like caponata.
Zazusca
-
Oh that tasted yummy, better than it looks I'm sure.

Yes.

Avacado & ice cream doesn't sound good to me, but then I didn't expect to find the pasta Craig made with an avacado sauce (instead of an alfredo sauce) delicious.
-
The Exploding Eggplant - that's the title of my next novel.
And only DR Jeanne has ever experienced one-lol. It wasn't as bad as when the pressure cooker blew it cork. We also have a self cleaning oven. The glass door is the most difficult part to clean.
-

Yes, very touching and a nice story about the difference the guy made.
-
Oh that tasted yummy, better than it looks I'm sure.
I hope so!
-
LOL TCB. I just had some more. We now have our neighbor coming tomorrow for dinner tomorrow. It shall make a nice appetizer. My personal chauffeur & chef is making dinner to go with the Zazusca. I hope our guest likes it, and I believe she will, as the main course will be an experiment.
-
I hope all those traveling today & over the holiday weekend do so safely. Bryan is currently one of those drivers as he is on his way to Portland. He is enjoying my car.
-
From a pretty wildflower hike I took in May.
-
Well, I'm over my pique. Life goes on, and I shouldn't get bent out of shape over it!
-
Apparently I focused on the background & not the flowers. I seem to recall Sherlock pulling on the leash as I took photos of these flowers.
-
Good to hear DR elmore. :)
-
My cutie before I ruined our hikes.

Are you saying DR Sandra had a traffic sign in her drink? :)
-
I must have missed yet another post.
-
I am listening to this 1960 Instrumental comp again and I'm simply going to say it: there were some mediocre musicians recording big hits in 1960. :)
-
I have reviewed another weird little anime title (are there any other kind?) and will now walk the dogs with Gabe and then settle down for the last of the new Poirots.
-
I believe I am well and truly sick of the Casey Anthony trial and just hope to hell it ends soon, no matter what the verdict. :)

check out Laura's quote

I must have missed yet another post.
Laura's quote o' the day:
Waitress: "Here are your sandwiches. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
Dear Son: "Yes. My sister says that apostrophe doesn't belong there in 'Bloody Marys.'"

there are new Poirots? With David Suchat?

Bryan should arrive in Portland in the next hour much later than he had expected. I hope he can get into the apartment he rented & the management group has someone available to speak to. He couldn't reach them before he left. It would be a shame for him to be stranded the next two days plus he has to be at the hospital bright & early Tuesday morning.

I just watched a TV show on PBS about great breakfast places around the country. Apparently the great spots in Tacoma did not make the survey. However, they did highlight two places in NE Portland (Oregon). One is called Helser's on Alberta and the other one is called The Tin Shed. The reason I bring them up is that at the Tin Shed, they mentioned several times that it is dog friendly. I thought perhaps Jane, Keith and Sherlock might want to keep ihe place in mind.

We are having a dust storm. Sometimes there is rain afterwards. I hope today is one of those times.

I've been lazy and loving it. Also, the Kritzerland designer has been working very hard to find a Nudie Musical blu-ray cover design that I like. His first attempts, seven of them, didn't work for me at all, which is frustrating for both of us. And I couldn't really be all the articulate or helpful - but I showed him all the posters from the films and the only one I felt that drew my eye in was the poster from the 16mm release, which is completely different from all the others. It's not especially well designed but its elements (curtain, steps, skyline) really appealed to me as did its very strong colors. My favorite Nudie Musical art is, of course, the fabulous Jimmy Pearsall chorus girl with the film's title as her costume. It's iconic. The version we used on the DVD wasn't much to my liking, nor was it really totally true to Pearsall's original (they tried to "fill" the girl in instead of keeping her "lines". So, after all that discussion he sent me six new versions today, all of which were on the right track and a couple of which I really liked a lot. They all needed tweaking and he did that, but they still need some additional tweaking. Once that's done I think I'll post our favorite three here to see which appeals the most to you dear readers. There's one especially that I like and I've just asked to see a version of that one that's slightly different.
-

How many lunches did you eat?
-
JMK, I put in my quote and then didn't post for a while, so you didn't see that I had changed it. You did not miss a post.
-
Very pretty wildflowers, Jane. I certainly don't recognize them. We have such different stuff out here.
And Sherlock is handsome, as always.
-
Thank you for the vibes DR's Vixmom & George.

-
Thank you DR Laura & I'm glad to offer variety on the wildflowers.
-
I think I shall watch a motion picture on Blu and Ray. I had three count them three smallish chicken tacos and some strawberries with whipped cream so far. Not that many calories and I bought more fruit to snack on - apples, grapes, and also some carrots for snacking later.
-

-
Debby, yes, the third of three new Suchet Poirots airs tonight on Masterpiece Mystery. Last week's was especially good.

Thanks DR JMK. I'll let you know if he gets into the apartment. I hope by the time he finds out it won't be too late. He really needs one day of rest after the move & traveling so he is alert on Tuesday.

I am NOT a hoarder

I just need a bigger house
-
the difference between a hoarder and a collector is their shelf space!

The dust storm continues.
apace?
-
VIBES it turns into a rainstorm for you
-
The more I think about it, the more hoarders I know.
I helped clean a hoarder house once. I should say tried to clean, since they wouldn't let anything be thrown out. Well, except the dead mice. We threw away the dead mice. That's about it, though.
-
I definitely do not collect dead mice
-
or live ones
-
books tho....

lots and lots of books

not quite so many as we did have though since the last flood

Not everybody...I'm still here (to quote Stephen Sondheim). I just watched the second episode of the new show, "Suits." It's another buddy dramedy on the USA network. I've enjoyed the first two episodes. :)

It's strange, though, the photographic memory talent of one of the lead on SUITS is such a freak talent that you either just have or don't have, not that he really did anything to develop, so I'm having no luck feeling anything for the character's accomplishments.

vixmom is closing in on 18000!!!! That's a very lucky number.

The sky looks promising.

Good Evening!
Rehearsal started at 11:00am.
Lunch was from 4:00pm-4:30pm.
Our "Wandelprobe" took place from 4:30pm-8:30pm.
After rehearsal - which went very well - we had a production meeting.
I left the theater at 9:15pm.
And now...
-
Oh...
And I don't have to be back at the theater until 11:00am Tuesday morning. :)
-
Bryan just got into his apartment :)
Again, thanks for the offer JMK.
-
Good morning! DR Jose,I hate to tell you but the forecast for this area (DC) calls for thunderstorms too.
...As I discovered when I finally left the theatre. The sidewalks were wet. -And I could tell that some neighborhoods along I-66 were experiencing power outages.
-
Back from a pre-Fourth of July party. I was bad. a friend brought two beers that he had brewed and I had a cup of each. Also had a little of the homemade vanilla ice cream someone else made. And they were good.
-
Now back to writing about beer. got seven pages on that paper done earlier today. About three more to go. Then on to Cole Porter.

DR Matthew - I hope you had a great time at the party.

DR JMK - So I guess you didn't get the insurance? ;)
-
DR Jose Bryan was always a night owl.
Capers!!!! Not in the Romanian dish ;D It is not like caponata.
Zazusca
Ah! That's related to the Middle Eastern "shakshuka". -Next time, place a fried egg on top. :)
-

DR vixmom - It sounds like you at the vixter had a nice day in NYC.
Do you get to take tomorrow off? -I hope you do.
-
I believe I am well and truly sick of the Casey Anthony trial and just hope to hell it ends soon, no matter what the verdict. :)
I haven't followed it all. However, the news reports of people lining up in the wee hours in the morning and then fighting to get a spot in the courtroom have disgusted me.
-
And since I'm quite sleepy...
Goodnight.
-
Well, looks like a couple of rainstorms blew around us. No rain tonight.
-
Well, it's 9:30 pm and I have to go to my sister's. Her automatic garage door opener doesn't work for some reason. So, I'm going over there to see what I can do. :-\
Be back later.
-
I had a very nice day doing laundry and watching movies.
-
I'm finished with my viewing and my viewing is finished with me.
-
I watched this movie, which was very funny.

Thanks to all the good travel vibes.
Upon my return the Florida I had drinks and dinner with three friends I haven't seen in a while. It was very enjoyable.
-
Then a 1964 spaghetti western starring Jim Mitchum, who I quite enjoy,

and lastly, I watched BK favorite TARGET EARTH (1954). I had forgotten what an enjoyable film this was, and I really like actor Robert Roark, who plays the gun toting criminal during the last half of the film.

I just got back from my sister's. I actually looked at the instruction booklet that was left by the builder of her house and it turns out that one of the sensors that stops the door from descending if someone enters the garage while it's descending was bumped and was no longer aligned with the other sensor. We just put it back on and all was well. The other good thing was that my sister noticed a number written on the front of the booklet. That number turned out to be the code to open the door from the keypad on the outside. My sister is now finally able to open her garage door with the keypad!

And since we're so close...
