Title: GERITOL
Post by: bk on July 06, 2011, 12:07:32 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had iron-poor tired blood, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - my cows - I think I'll keep them.

The curse of being wide awake at 5:15 is that you have few options.

Good morning, all! I plan to leave here around 7:45, stop at the NYU Dental Clinic and pay off my bill, and then head to the McGlinnventory. I've got 20 chrus books, 10 principal books, and 15 choir boy books waiting to be bound and shipped to Dublin. The question for today is this new binding machine, whch was purchased against my wishes, and how its finished product looks. I'm afraid it is something that's meant for assembling legal briefs and that the end product wll not be sturdy enough for heavy usage. I fear all of my morning and possibly more will be spent dealing with this.

Outside of that, I have nothing else to report.

It's supposed to be a scorcher today, hot and humid. Although I'm glad I'm on vacation there are advantages to working in an air-conditioned office.

Only five hours of sleep and I feel it. Went to a TV show taping and it lasted until the wee hours. Plus, it was out of town, so it took close to a half-hour to get home. I just went straight to bed.

I wanted to get here by 9:00. Since I didn't want to deal with the traffic - especially since I'm still not used these "early" hours - I went ahead and drove in with my brother. We got to his office around 7:15, I was on the Orange Line train to New Carrollton a few minutes later, and I was entering the building a little before 8:00(am). -Yep, it's early.

As I was walking from the Metro station to Arena Stage, I thought it would be a good idea to stop into the Safeway to buy my lunch for later... And that's when I discovered I had left my wallet at home. Ugh. Thankfully, I keep my Metro SmartTrip card in my day bag. I'm hoping that stage management sets up a bagel station again today before today's rehearsal. At least I had a bowl of cereal before I left the house.

Here's a question for you savvy musicologists:  why do you think Hammerstein chose the word cowman instead of the more commonly used cowboy for The Farmer and the Cowman?  I don't recall the script--are the ranchers generally referred to as cowmen during the show?  Or were they cattlemen and cowman was a good two-syllable term?  Was cowmen chosen to form an alliteration on the m with farmer?  Does anyone but me really care about this?

On The Way To Blowing Rock we stopped overnight in Orangeburg South Carolina where in the middle of nowheresville we ate in what I would  Consider a Five-Star Restaurant- FOUR MOONS. The Restaurant is owned by A Very Rich Couple-So It is not their source of income. But it is a labor of Love. The Restaurant's decor is Stunning. The binder is wonderful! All my concerns were unnecssary. Once Geri and I learned how it works, I sailed through 24 chorus books, 16 books for the choir boys, and 12 books for the principals. Took about two and a half hours.

Then we loaded them into a large carton and took them to the office shipping dept  for Fed Ex Economy Internation shipping to Dublin.

https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=241646942528779&oid=139586719403143&comments

I still cannot tell if they're using saxes or if they've rewritten me, and the Mother Superior executive director, Miss Neill, was no help beyond a "stop bothering us" email on Monday.

I see the director still uses his "signing for the deaf" staging of chorus numbers, too! I thought I'd get dizzy from all the had moves in his YEOMAN OF THE GUARD about 10 years ago.

Still, on the good side, I'll get a nice royalty check next year!

They're paying Tams-Witmark, but the Cole porter Trust set me up with a loverly royalty when the show went into the T-W catalogue.

The tsuris on Monday all came from Miss Neil because I had contacted one of the cast, as well as the Cleveland reviewer who gave me the poor review, about orchestration changes after my negative review was posted online. I don't care if he likes or dislikes my work; I want to be sure I'm getting a bad review for what I wrote, not for what someone did to me.

I love the "signing for the deaf" choralography! The director's work has to be seen to be believed. I suspect the conductor is doing a fine job with the orchestra. From the recordings I've heard, I think he's good.

DR Elmore, I would think you have every right to ask those kinds of questions.

I thought so, too, but Miss Neill, whose email smacked of in loco parentis, which i really dislike, let me know her cast members were way too busy for me to be bothering them. In my response, I let her know that I was very aware of how much partying goes on during summer theatre.

I can't say I think much of Miss Neill as a person, but I'm happy to have let her feel on Monday that she grabbed the chance to put a nobody in his place.

Today I am wearing regular summer clothes, meaning nice shorts & a pull over top.  I might need help getting out of the top but I got it on all by myself.  Yesterday I picked up Eli, who thankfully is a lightweight, and carried her around.  Her mother was concerned at first and asked if I could hold her.  When I said yes she asked "as of when".  My response was "right now".  Pure motivation-I wanted that kid in my arm.

...and the other side:

Can you get your rings off?  If so do it now before you swell anymore.  Don't be surprised if the bruising continues to get worst over the next few days.

Yes, I can get my rings off, but the only time I remove them is to make meat loaf.  It was the middle finger that took the direct hit.  If my ring finger starts to swell, I'll take them off right away.

I Would Never Leave You. Not Aporia but EUPHORIA. The Vacation was Great. The Weather Fab. The Mountains of North Carolina-Beautiful. I missed HHW -But I'm Back and ready to experience The Heat and Humidity of Southern Florida.

The Lighting fixtures and Chandelier was created by a student of CHIHULY.The Food was Great and It Was a terrific way to Start our Trip.

I Hope All Of You Had A Wonderful 4th Of July Weekend

Even the majority of the work done by Chihuly is actually created by one of his students.

Good morning, everyone. There is a pool toy in my front yard. I don't have a pool.

Interesting.  After heavy winds I once found our trash can 5 block from our house.

After the Columbus Storm of 1962, we found our garbage can a block away, but we never found any of the garbage.

Did the four-mile jog - a tiny bit easier today - then I did some errands and whatnot, after which I ate an apple.  Our favorite non-entity, 3D Diffusion started a thread on the film score message board about which label has the best liner notes - she'd like opinions.  She offers ONE opinion on ONE set of liner notes - guess which label, guess which author?  I call her on it and give the sorry history and then she comes back as always playing the innocent "I just wanted some opinions, why did you have to respond" malarky she always does.  So, I went into more detail.  This woman really needs some serous therapy - here that, Barb - we know you're reading.  She admitted as much - that she reads the notes and each and every post each and every day.

DR TCB I'm guessing you have tried calling your cell phone.  Can someone look under your furniture for you?  You might have dropped it during one of your falls.

How did you do using your wheel chair today?

I tried calling my phone before I remembered that I had to turn it off at the doctor's office.  It is not great loss.  The phone is a Net10 (buy as you go), so it isn't as if they can run up a bill on my account.

Oh well.

It is amazing how much nicer total strangers are to you, when you are in a wheelchair.  Unfortunately, I can't use the chair around the apartment.  Everything is just too close together.  So I still get worn out using the cane at home.

Well, this definitely improves the look of my left wrist!  It's the Mother's Day present I picked out for myself today.  Richard and Rob had asked what I wanted and I said, "To start a Chamilia (http://www.chamilia.com/us/en/) bracelet.  They're sold at Kathryn's and she told me that they were having a promo the first 2 weeks of July, which I why I waited.  The charms are, right to left, an angel, my December birthstone, and a purse ('cause Kathryn's is also where I buy most of my Vera Bradley!)

https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=241646942528779&oid=139586719403143&comments

Tonight I stained the north side of the garage.   We may have rain tonight, but I decided to chance it.  There is a chance of rain almost every night for the next 10 days.  SO, either I risk it or I'll never get my staining and painting done.   I finished at 8:15.  I figure it's already been 2 hours and if we can go another couple hours without rain, I should be good to go

DR JRand - I survived my time in the Oklahoma! territory today. I got some good prep work done this morning, and the rehearsal went well, as did tonight's dress-tech run-thru.

*And my conductor treated me to dinner tonight, so I didn't starve. ;)

And speaking of Oklahoma!...

Since I was - and am - still feeling a little "unsettled" about The Show, I asked if my first time on the podium could be pushed back a few days. I could go on right now, if needed, but this remount is still being tweaked in a couple of respects. The big one is the cast. Yes, most of the original cast has returned for this run, but we have three new cast members, but, alas, due to an injury sustained during rehearsals last week, an actor decided to leave the production yesterday in order to give his body time to heal properly. So, this week, our one and only male swing is going on (and we will be holding auditions after we open for a new male ensemble member after we open). Additionally, due to another injury, one of the female ensemble members is also out this week, so... The cast is working together beautifully, but with some of those "changes", I think the last thing the cast could use during our weekend of previews is a new face and presence on the podium. If things settle a bit more over this weekend, I may go on on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I think I'm aiming for a performance shortly after we open.

And that's that.

DR Ginny - OUCH! I hope the swelling and the color goes down soon.

Hmmm... Good question.

I'll check our production's study guide to see if it answers your question.

*Although, I seem to recall that a "cowman" was more of a hired hand, and a cowboy was more of a loner.

It's 1:00am, and I need to be back at the theatre in nine hours, so...

Goodnight.
