Thursday morning greetings!  Today I'm going to meet a friend at noon for a Vera Bradley tea party at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Cincinnati and then to Nordstrom's for some further mother-of-the-groom wardrobing.  On the way, I'll visit with my mother.

Good morning, all! The laundry is in the washers, I've had my first cup of coffee, and I am all caught up on emails, HHW, and Facebook. I want to finish the laundry by 9:30 am, so I can spend most of the day indoors proofing EILEEN Act Two Finale (Endless). If I finish it today, I can scan and send it tomorrow to London for corrections.
I'm hoping that most of next week will be taken up with profing the final edits before we being printing. I am still waiting for first edits on Overture, 2 Entr'Actes, Finale Ultimo, and the appendix version of the Act Two Opening.

When my laundry goes into the dryers, in about 10 minutes, I will tidy the apartment. I won't vacuum before 9 am, snce I don't want to disturb the neighbors, so I won't do that until the laundry is back in the apartment. After that, I will call my barber for an appointment tomorrow. And that's my day

DR vixmom, were you logged on to Facebook when you tried to watch the video?

DR Jose, I'm sorry to hear about the cast injury. I hope casting a replacement goes well. From the auditions, weren't there a few who sinmply missed the replacement jobs by a hair? Couldn't they be contacted about stepping in?

As for the TOD, I have a whole list of favorite Broadway and opera performers, many of whom are on the Victor Herbert songs. As to pop singers, my faves, if they're still working, are over the hill like me.

Or dead.

So, they did the medical procedure yesterday, but I won't know the result for a week.

I got home about 2:30, then slept until 6:30, got up for a light dinner, then was back in bed at 9.  Slept until 7 this morning.

I can't think this morning.

I adore k.d. lang's voice but I wish she had a better ear for selecting her material.  I buy each and every recording of hers, but I give it a listen and onto the pile it goes, rarely to be heard from again.  Her songs do nothing to me.  I wish she would just do something like a Cole Porter songbook or a disc of standards.

DR DtM - I think DR JOSE is correct.....a cowboy drifted around from job to job...and cowman owned the herd and the land....

The Farmer tilled the ground.....the cowman just let his cattle eat what was there......he also wanted his cows to roam around....while the farmer had to fence in his property...

One man likes to rope a cow....the other likes to chase a plow....

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, that cowman is short for cattle man.  And since it's Andrew who starts the song, it would make sense that he would use that term.  And further playing into that, later in the song Aunt Eller (a farmer) sings: I'd to say a word for the cowboy and The farmer should be sociable with the cowboy, perhaps in a pejorative use.

Of course, everyone sings Cowboys dance with farmer's daughters which is neither here nor there...

DR elmore - We do have a few good possibilities/back-ups lined up already. The big wrinkle was that the person who left the show and the new swing were already replacements for ensemble members who did not return for this engagement. Thankfully, we do have an "emergency swing" on-call should the need arise over the next few weeks.

And now...

I need to get ready to head back in to Arena. We have a few hours of fixes and tweaks to take care of this afternoon, and then we have our final (invited) dress rehearsal tonight at 8:00.

-On paper, the past two-and-a-half week rehearsal process really did seem "fast". And, well, yes, it was. The tech rehearsals over the past two days kind of caught me off guard with how smoothly things went. Since this is a remount and all the staff and crew are the same, I guess it was supposed to go smoothly. However, this "new kid on the farm" is still getting his footing. Anyhoo...

Laters...

Most of my favorite pop singers of today are from Pakistan or various Arabic countries.

I don't denounce any English language pop singers of today, there are likely some wonderful ones out there, it is just that I am not familiar with them.

As for Broadway....of course, Tom Wopat.

Opera I don't know from, except that some of the singers are quite nice to look at if I am to judge from the pictures that DR Elmore has been kind enough to post for me!  ;D

You know what I cannot figure out? My my brother Randy, who I think is a reasonably intelligent man except for his political views, would support for the presidency Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin, so I asked him why he would want a president who's dumber than he is.

Then, seeing this, "Having the Senate declare that millionaires should share more of the pain involved in putting America's financial house in order is "rather pathetic," Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) declared Tuesday," I don't understand how a Republican with my brother's income would want to be in a party with this attitude! Do poor Republicans really think the wealthy need all these tax breaks? Isn't it kinda like a Jew voting for Hitler?

I wonder as I wander out under the sky, I guess!

End of rant.

Mr Farmer from Iowa Stubborn is playing the doctor in CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN.....but generally walks around our rehearsals annoying the young girls.....I also notice that he friends all of the young ladies that I have on my friend's list.

At first I thought he knew them, but I now find out that he searches them out and sends a friend request, and because he knows me, they allow the request.....I have put them on notice to defriend him if he keeps asking for hugs.

As you can tell - if you remember - it's a much different style of dress (and actress) from our previous production.

Lancelot and Arthur are at the piano in the background.

I like the strange old coot lurking behind the pillar!

Oh is this the London Cast with Mr Red Socks Van Johnson?

I think I bought that one.....the one I have does have some samples by Mr Willson, but I got it earlier this summer.

That earlier release, which I also own, wasn't the full London recording, so I'm happy to get the complete one now.

Back from the lab and then a sandwich an no fries or onion rings.  I cannot jog in this heat so will do the four-mile jog between five and six.

The sound layback went extremely well and easily.  It didn't really need any EQ as that would have caused more problems than it would have solved.  It sounds better than the DVD and as good as it's ever going to sound considering it's never sounded very good.  We fixed the little rubbery synch in the intro to the first musical number, and we had to use the end credits song from the DVD, as for some reason there were a lot of little weird jumps in the transfer of my print.  We also realized that the trailer on the DVD is different than the one I had the negative for, which had no sound.  So, we'll use the original Paramount trailer from the DVD and probably upscale it for the Blu-Ray, and the other trailer we'll include without sound, just as an additional extra.

Good Afternoon! Good Evening!

Well... After another couple of hours of rehearsals and another couple tweaks and fine-tunings, I'm currently sitting in the theatre - the very quiet theatre - just enjoying the calm and silence... Except for the sound of my fingers typing away at my MacBook's computer as I post here in HHW. ;)

DR JOSE....did they set a new date for your conducting Day-Boo?

DR JRand - I will be the one to set the date for my conducting Day-Boo. Today's detail work on some scenes really helped me out.

Our Curly and Laurey did not join us until the second week of rehearsal, and because of that, I'm a little "behind" on the opening scenes. As soon as they were thrown back into the mix, I was usually playing dance rehearsals in the other room. It wasn't until our first run-thru in the rehearsal hall that I had even played through the Opening and "Surrey".

I did watch the archive video a couple of times, but sure ain't the same thing as watchin' and list'nin' to it live.

*I also need to continue futzing with the keyboard book for my sub (who will play when I conduct). I'm still adjusting settings and voicings after - and sometimes during - each run with the full cast and orchestra.

I am leaning towards number three, as well - it seems cleanest and most like a blu-ray cover that really pops the title, and it's the only one where I think the quotes really work, although I'll make "Newsday" and "Judith Crist" in slightly larger type.  I've added number three (severely cropped to the dimensions Kickstarter demands) to the Kickstarter campaign.

I like number 1 -- the red curtain makes it look like a musical.

I've gone back and forth about the first one - I now don't love all that stuff on the steps and the steps just seem to take up too much space and the art itself is minimized because of it.  And since the word "musical" is in the title, I think that's pretty clear - interested in other comments - they're all very helpful.

Hey everyone.  Nothing to report.  Just working on 4  - count them - 4 shows at the moment.  My gig bag is heavier and heavier as the day progresses.  The Wiz opens and closes next week.  I'll be glad when that show is done.  It is really not my favorite show at all.  I hate playing it, because... DUH, I'm WHITE and have NO groove or improv skills whatsoever.  I'll get by, the kids are great, the band will be fine (keys, guitar, bass, drums, sax) -- and we'll have a good time.  But never again!

And I do enjoy working on Curtains quite a lot.  I find it witty, fun, and it's definitely a lost treasure.  Of course, it's over-scored, and over written (vocally)

DR Matthew - So... The Wiz, Curtains... And what are the other two shows you're working on right now?

Otherwise...

I'm trying to decide if I want to make a quick trip back to NYC this coming Monday, or just enjoy the day off here in DC. I will be back up on the following Monday, so... We shall see.

Give yourself a break & relax. :)

DR Jane - Well... Part of me would like to take that break and relax in NYC. ;)

I think we're pretty much a go on number three - I'm having him do one last alternate version of number three with her title costume in the same red as her lips - I didn't like it in gold, but red might be fun, although the black is elegant and does stand out just fine.

Honk! Jr. and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.  I like YAGMCB, and at the moment, I'm indifferent to the other.  But it's a paycheck :)
