Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like a bad LSD trip, and now it is time for you to post until the the cows come home - they're currently having an acid flashback of Mr. Otto Preminger.
-
And the word of the day is: ZUGZWANG!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
And a good morning to all.
ASK BK
Any plans for the Blu Ray of TFNM to have a side by side comparison of before and after the restoration?
-
Good morning, all! I had a horrible time getting to sleep and I wish I could stay in bed another hor, but I am up, my bags are packed with today's agenda, and I will shortly be off to the McGlinnventory at Park and 23rd.
We are down to the last four numbers for EILEEN: 2 Entr'Actes, a short dance, and a piece of incidental music taken from another number in the score, so it's a cut and paste. Next week we begin the binding and taping, and need to think about my next job. God knows what it is.
DR JohnG, you asked about Mr Troob; he just did some additional orchestrations for Larry Hochman on DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY. Much as I admire his work, I have never found him friendly - I found him quite the opposite when I worked with him on Kris Phillips' album BEIJING TO BROADWAY - and I care little about what he's up to. His orchestrations are quite wonderful and I admire his talents. I have friends who think he's charming, I looked forward to meeting him, and he made it clear that he had no interest in being friendly.
That's my news. More coffee.
-
Gonna be another hot day.
I have to go to the dentist at 6pm this evening.
-
Too bad, Elmore. Danny was very nice the few times I met him.
-
We actually had rain here yesterday. For the first time in what seemed like months. And the plants are all perking up. The eggplant is covered in purple blossoms and one of the peppers is all in white. Hope both of them actually produce some fruit.
-
And a belated good morning to all.
-
Too bad, Elmore. Danny was very nice the few times I met him.
I had heard that from friends, and I went into the recording sessions looking forward to meeting him. He made it very clear he neither wished to talk to me nor to be friendly. I later sent him a note, since he didn't return my phone call, apologizing for an error on one of John Yap's recordings where I was credited for an orchestration Danny had done - Mr Yap keeps terrible records and miscredits a lot of things - and he never respnded. I've made three friendly overtures and received three cold shoulders. Why waste my time?
-
Wednesday morning greetings! Today I'm going to my former workplace for a meeting of the volunteer administrators. Looking forward to seeing friends and co-workers.

DR Elmore, do you take any meds before bedtime? Maybe they are causing these sleep problems and wild dreams.

And The Song Of The Day Is : CHESS
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm trying to plan out my dining choices for the day.
-
In other news...
According to the weather report I just saw, today is the first day of a string of "dangerously hot" days. At least I'll be in an over-air-conditioned theatre for most of them. ::)
-
Wednesday.
Yes I enjoyed THE EGYPTIAN....and yes I turned off the commentary about 15 minutes into the film.
-
Nice photos DR JOSE.
-
Off to Dayton - bye for now!
-
Good Wednesday to all!
-
Variety says thumbs down on CAPTAIN AMERICA.
-
Is no one going to offer Miss Karen a HAPPY BIRTHDAY?
Well, I will. :)
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR MISS KAREN!!!!!
-
Today I am pulling the kiddies away from their various electronics to make them deliver Meals on Wheels. I'm a vicious, torturing father.
-
Happy Birthday to Miss Karen!
-
Nice photos DR JOSE.
...And I'm wondering if they'll be taking some more press photos in a few weeks after our cast finally "settles". ???
-
I saw THE EGYPTIAN many years ago and, frankly, I had trouble getting through it.
I've never really been a fan of Biblical or sword-and-sandal movies.
-
Good Wednesday to all!
And a Good Wednesday to you too, DR Kerry!
-
Happy Birthday to Miss Karen. I hope she stops in.
-
I slept in today until 7 a.m. Unheard of for me.
-
According to legend:
Marlon Brando was originally cast in THE EGYPTIAN.
He went to the first table read, then when they broke for lunch, he said nothing but left the studio and flew back to New York.
That's when Purdom got the role.
-
I've never seen SKIDOO...and have no intention of doing so.
However, I do recall George Raft telling me that, when they were shooting his scenes, he insisted that he get off work by a certain time, so that he could go home and watch the baseball game on TV.
I always thought that was amusing, since at that point in his career, Raft could hardly get himself arrested in the business, and I'm sure that his casting in the movie was an act of compassion on Preminger's part.
Raft was a nice man,,,but not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
-
...And we're on PAGE TWO!!
-
And....
Now I need to get ready for my afternoon and evening at Arena.
Laters...
-
I found the commentary on THE EGYPTIAN rather well done, frankly.
-
In my continuing fascination with the non-existent Terry Baxter (of Columbia Record Club "fame"), here's something kind of odd: "Terry" recorded The Look of Love twice (so far, that I've been able to find), and both times, "he" changed Hal David's lyric, though in different places both times. Isn't that peculiar?
-
Happy Birthday MISS KAREN.
-
Maybe Terry is Hal getting it right.
-
Is no one going to offer Miss Karen a HAPPY BIRTHDAY?

JMK ~ They are probably wondering "Just who is this Miss Karen anyhew?" ...

A most happy birthday to dear DR Miss Karen, who we see very little of around here these days...but whose posts always put a smile on my face!

Well, speak of the devil...!
-
The word SKIDOO takes on a rather mystical meaning in Robert Anton Wilson's ILLUMINATUS! trilogy. I once "opened" for Robert here in Portland. It was certainly one of the oddest gigs ever.
-
Hiya, Miss Karen! Happy Birthday!
-
I've almost forgotten too!
I know, I am very much the E and T HHWayer, and did not intend to become such a stranger (with a sad look of guilt)...
-
Well, speak of the devil...!
Mikey, your sweet card drew me in like a beacon ....
-
But who are Ed, June and Eddie (Junior, I'm assuming)? ....
-
I don't know, Miss Karen. But they always send the best cards.
-
Hiya, Miss Karen! Happy Birthday!
Hiya back, DR Laura. Thanks for the wishes. I'm been thinking about you and hoping you and yours made it through the Haboobs or Haboobes or Haboobies (not sure the plural for this new buzz word for dust storm).
-
The haboobs don't do damage like the microbursts do. Have you been getting any rain?
-
We actually had rain here yesterday. For the first time in what seemed like months. And the plants are all perking up. The eggplant is covered in purple blossoms and one of the peppers is all in white. Hope both of them actually produce some fruit.

The haboobs don't do damage like the microbursts do. Have you been getting any rain?
But I bet you have to do a lot of dusting -- and car and patio washing ... One really good Monsoon rain about a week ago, and then some off and on little Monsoon showers several days here and there.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR MISS KAREN!!!!!
THANKS, DR ENABLER -- Where's my BD Monkey Cake?!
-
Happy Birthday to Miss Karen!
Thank you, DR Druxy!
-
Happy Birthday MISS KAREN.
Gracias, Senor!

Happy Birthday to Miss Karen. I hope she stops in.
Yes, I hope so too. Happy birthday, dear Miss Karen!!!!!

And there she is!

That'll teach me to post before I ketchup!

Merci Beaucoup, DR FJL!!!!!

I'm still waiting for my copy of THE EGYPTIAN to arrive (along with THOSE LIPS, THOSE EYES), but I've not seen in for years. I don't remember it being a particularly good film, but I remember it as an eminently watchable film.
My BK question: Is SKIDDO worth seeing just to say one has finally seen it? I do remember when it came out and the disaster it was. Does it have enough "train-wreck" fascination to sit through it?
-
That'll teach me to post before I ketchup!
This stranger serves a purpose...
-
And my BD gift to BK -- this posting mini-frenzy that might help to get him off this damn page!
-
And there you have it, Page 3...
-
On that post, I gotta scram -- 23 Skidoo!

I do think Skidoo is worth watching - it's really something.
-
I'm up. I did get a good night's sleep but was hoping to sleep a bit later. Oh, well.

Twenty-six GUESTS and no one else in the jernt.

I'm here, but I must be going

A Very Happy Birthday to Miss Karen!! ;D

I am desperately trying to find a movie called Adventures of Casanova, which I need to see asap. I know we have experts here on how to unearth things on the Internet. The film is listed on a couple of "those" kinds of download sites, but I can never get to the point where I can view or download anything.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR Miss Karen - sorry I missed you!
-
I survived my trip to Dayton and back. It's brutally hot here today and even places that are air conditioned aren't very cool. Tomorrow - more of the same with heat indexes around 112 :P

I sent her an ecard. When she starts posting again, I'll wish her one here!

BK: I watched "The Egyptian" three times -- once for the film, once for the isolated (Brilliant) score and once for the commentary. I think of the two commentarians as Beavis and Butthead.
Honestly! These guys are film historians? I understand they're more into horror/sci-fi than dramatic spectacle. When one deferred to the other over how much of the score Herrmann wrote, the answer was two-thirds. Actually, I think the word used was "cues". It's possible Herrmann scored 2/3 of the film's cues, many of which would have been short/brief snippets of music....but Newman scored more than 50% of the film...and Herrmann used Newman motifs/themes in sequences he composed, so the dominant voice is Newman's. It always was, and lots of folks have tried to pretend it was the other way around.

It's been a long, not very good, day! I'm very crabby. The binder works great with the 1/2 inch combes which hold up to 100 pages of paper, and th 2 inch one which hold up to 400 pages. The 1 inch combs are a disaster, and I don't know if it's the binder or if the manufacturer sent us 100 defecrive binding combs. Since most of what I waas bnding today required the 1 inch comb, it was a day of aggravation and frustration. Then, the mail arrives and the jerk hasn't sent the last invoice check, so i'm royally screwed at the moment.
I was hoping it would show up today at the latest, and if it doesn't show tomorrow, I'll have to send an inquiry as to its status. I hate begging for money owed me.
-
BK, I checked my sources and no luck on Adventures of Casanova.
Maybe you can get hold of a techie type who can download the film and burn it onto a disc for you. Like you, I have never had any luck getting that to work correctly.
-
Doesn't look like Adventures of Casanova is available, at least anywhere I've looked.

Good Afternoon!
Greetings from the Green Room of the Fichlander at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater!
-
Since BK may have missed my posting earlier this AM I will do it again
ASK BK
Any plans for the Blu Ray of TFNM to have a side by side comparison of before and after the restoration ala Robert Gitt did for Lost Horizon on the DVD release?
-
*I'm currently posting away from one of the Macs that was bought with funds from The (Robert) Prosky Fund. -Robert Prosky was one of the founding members of Arena Stage's Acting Company - when such a thing existed. One of his legacies here is a fund, part of which is distributed to each cast that comes through. Each cast then uses said funds to purchase some sort of "accessory" for the theatre. It could be a microwave, a TV, a computer, a couch for the greenroom, etc. Kind of cool, ain't it?
-
Oh....
Understudy rehearsal went very well.
-
Oh....
I stepped out afterwards to grab a bite to eat.
It's ugly hot here in DC. UGH-LY!
-
Anyhoo...
I'm sorry I missed the Birthday Girl earlier today. However, if she'd like a slice of her Birthday Monkey Cake, she's gonna have to come get it. ;)
-
That sounds lascivious. Kinda sorta.

CRANBERRIES!!!!

My hiking group went on a new hike in the mountains this morning. There were loads of wildflowers along the trail & a waterfall.

And a nice view.

And now...
I believe I will take up some real estate on one of the comfy couches here and rest my eyes for a before tonight's show.
Laters...

Cool pictures, Jane!

Questions for BK:
Will the documentary "From Dollars to Donuts" be included on the NUDIE Blu-ray? Do you plan to include other DVD bonus material, or maybe new stuff that wasn't on the DVD?
-
thanks George.

Thank you Laura.

I'm off for a way over due physical. I was due prior to breaking my shoulder. I have done the blood work already & hope to have good results today.

Purely for your information (FYI):
I don't believe that you can have LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) brownies. Baking LSD would change the chemical compound - I believe.

So, I get an e-mail saying a comment has been posted on my You Tube channel. Since it begins with the lovely greeting "You worm" I knew instantly it was from our very own 3D Diffusion. It lambasted me for not reviewing Druxy's last tome, since he'd reviewed mine. It accused me of some wrongdoing with Kickstarter when none was done (even though people do futz with the rules there - project starters are not allowed to fund, and she posted on the FSM board the ways around that - but I didn't have to do it, thankfully - but she accused me of having ringers - whatever that means), and then she posts part one only of - wait for it - The Adventures of Casanova. I've now seen at least part one. Perhaps she'll post the other parts now that I'm giving her some space on the discussion board. I wrote her privately that I would never review a book I'd blurbed - no one does that. And I explained to her about how Kickstarter worked - why I bother I have no idea since nothing gets through to her. I then removed her post. Since we know she's reading this (how else would she know I need to see Casanova) be a good sport now and post the other parts. The point is, however, if she found it via Google, which she obviously did, perhaps someone else here can - just google Adventures of Casanova and the star of the film - I'm sure there are at least a couple of those download sites because I saw and went to them - I just couldn't figure out how to do whatever needed to be done - in fact, here's one of the links:
http://www.ovguide.com/movies_tv/adventures_of_casanova.htm
-
For a day that was supposed to be light, it has been anything but. I did get nine hours of sleep, so that was good. I did the four-mile jog, and that was good. Then I went to the lab and picked up all the stuff, although I later found that they hadn't returned the DVD. I didn't want any of it sitting in my hot car trunk for too long, so despite the fact that I was starving, I brought the hi-def master home, then went directly to storage, where I lugged all the negative cans up - they are HEAVY! Then I came back home and dropped off the print from which we took the sound and put that where it belongs in the garage. I went to the mail place and attempted to fax something only the company's fax machine wasn't picking up. Then I finally ate a bacon cheeseburger at Jerry's but no fries or onion rings. I figured the cheeseburger was my treat for all that heavy lifting and running and it was great. Calorie-wise it's ultimately fine when you deduct the calories that I burned.
-
So, if anyone can get that Casanova movie and just upload it to You Tube in parts (the film is in the public domain) that would be great. It was very helpful to see the first eight minutes - obviously we're issuing the great score, and I was able to find the first four cues and put them in their proper place - the recording sequence is wildly out of film order.
-

George! Wake up! It is time to go home.

Alex Steinweiss, who developed album art, died at age 94. Here is a link to some of his work, which is beautiful. I especially like the album cover for La Conga from Desi Arnaz and the old "Showboat":

Lots of excitement here. First Yogi alerted Craig to a deer outside his bedroom. Since we have elk fencing to keep the deer & bear out of the yard it was a surprise. After the three of us finally got the deer out through the gate Keith let Sherlock out.
I've never seen Sherlock do so many rolls on the lawn. We just had to wipe the stinky dog down with an enzyme cleaner.
'night.
-
Actually, I'm not going directly home. A new Walmart opened up next to the local Costco, and they (Walmart) sent out $5 gift cards. Sure, I'll take your $5 and have a little look-see.
It's been years since I've been in a Walmart, so I don't know what to expect...other than another giant store.
Be back later. :)
-
Night, all.

Go ahead, elmore, get the hook. It could only help.
How are you feeling tonight?
-
(((TOMMY))))
-
Happy Birthday to E & T DR Miss Karen
-
BK, just curious, do you have any clew as to why she who shall remain unnamed took such a dislike to you?
-
I've tried to hash it out to no avail. But she has kindly agreed to post the rest of the film, so that's a good thing.
-
I think she has a crush on you
-
Good evening and oh dear. I've discovered the games section of the AARP website. I really wish one of my friends hadn't told me about it. I've been playing a Yahtzee type game constantly. I hate it when this happens
-
I should be listening to police interviews before my depositions on Friday. I'll be doing an all nighter tomorrow I fear
-
The good news is after the hottest and worst day we've had in this heat wave, the high tomorrow is only going to be 89!! woo hoo!
-
Good Evening!
Yep... It's hot, humid and gross outside right now!
In other news...
-
It's finally cooling off a bit here, not a lot, but it will only feel like the 90s tomorrow. whew!
-
I have spent the entire evening going through 2 file drawers full of photos - the whole gamut from the telegram that my dad sent to my grandmother when I was born to Rob's high school graduation, all mixed up. They are now sorted in a rudimentary way all over the dining room table and tomorrow I'll tackle some further sorting. This was all prompted by Mary Linda's sister requesting some photos of Rob to use in a slideshow for their wedding festivities.
-
And...
Today was a long day. And tomorrow will be a long day.
And that's about all I can think of to post right now.
Sleep beckons.
Goodnight.
-
;D
-
I wish I could sleep till 7am, even on the weekends I'm up at 6.
-
I have no tomatoes.
-
Happy birthday Miss Karen ;)
-
I have no tomatoes.
Who cares about tomatoes? You got any naked men tonight?
-
Dear Laura, no. :-[
-
Me neither.
-
Time for sleep, but I am caught up on today.
-
I was in a really silly mood last night when I looked over and just posted something on this here site forgetting the family friendly theme.
Sorry.
-
who has a crush on bk ?
-
Time for sleep, me too. Tomorrow is Thursday already, this year is going fast.
And the hot weather makes it all seem to swim together from one day to the next.
-
89 woo hoo
Weather vibes for everyone.
Thursday good day vibes for everyone.
;D
-
Watched The Last Starfighter again last night.
Should pull out the cd to listen to when I get home.
Night.
:)

Well, I went to the new Walmart (just to try it out...AND because I had the $5 gift card) and just mainly looked around. It's basically a big giant store. HOWEVER, I happened to look at their ice cream section and they had Magnum (http://www.magnumicecream.com/) ice cream bars! They even had all the flavors, including the double caramel flavor and the white chocolate flavor. I bought one box of each. I had the double chocolate and it was much, much, much (that's three muches) better than the classic flavor. I can't wait to try the white chocolate. :D
-
And now...to bed.
-
I found out something disturbing this evening - apparently not only were there booklets in the box we sent to Jason for signing, there were also inlay cards - he signed those, too. That means we would have been able to give 200 people signed copies, but the helper got confused, didn't call to check, and sent the 100 people booklets AND inlay cards. So, 100 people will have two signed items. If anyone wants to send back one of the signed items, that would be helpful. If not, no worries.
