Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like they'd been written by a baboon, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - as soon as the baboons come home, the cows will follow, or so they say.

And the word of the day is: OVERSLAUGH!

Good morning, all! I slept well and I'm bathed, dressed and ready to meet Susanna Moross Tarjan and her husband Peter for breakfast in another hour. After that, I have very few plans for the day. I may go into midtown and buy a ticket for FOLLIES next week, since I actually have a bit of money now. I'd like to see it before I head off to Dublin.
I've been looking at the Dublin travel guides I purchased and I'm happy to find the National Concert Hall, where we will record, is a short walk from the Merrion. The other good news is that the Merrion has a business center, so I will be able to log on frequently and inquire about everyone.

Favorite films about survival?
I love the simplicity of Gloria Gaynor's I WILL SURVIVE video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBR2G-iI3-I
:)
It doesn't matter if most of the words of I WILL SURVIVE are irrelevant to any particular aituation; the title alone I'm sure has gotten many people through the craziness of adversity of all sorts.

Travel vibes to DR Ben

Anyhoo...
When I got back from last night's show, I basically crawled into bed and went to sleep. And about nine hours later... Ahhhhh!!!
I needed that.

Of course, today is a two-show day and my niece is coming to see the matinee today and I need to finish prepping my book for my sub who will be playing tomorrow while I audit the conductor's chair and...

DR Ron Pulliam - Is the Shan Dong Chicken at Shan Dong the "dry sautéed with various types of peppers" type? or the "deep-fried then finished with a sauce" type?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR TD!!!!!

bk - Reading about your prep for your upcoming NYC trip really makes sad(?) that I won't be there next week. At least I'll be seeing you (a lot) come November. ;)

TODAY'S GOOGLE DOODLE!!!!
:)

Oh....and Happy 100th Birthday:
DR JRand - The Library of Congress just opened a new exhibit about "I Love Lucy". Apparently, the buzz was so great about it the people started showing up to check it out before it was even open.

Saturday morning greetings! I had a bit of sleeplessness around 5am, so I slept a little later to make up for it. No specific plans for today, so I may get started on the part of the rehearsal dinner centerpieces that the florist suggested I make myself (weights for balloon bouquets).

Oh... Now that the coffee has finally kicked in, I guess the word I was looking for was "disappointed". Or "heartbroken". ;)

DR elmore - When exactly do you leave for Dublin again?
-
Good morning.
Beautiful engagement photo, Jose.
-
John G - thank you so much for the comment on YouTube!!!
I found that on BroadwayStars.com, which had you featured yesterday. Very nice.

Good morning, all.

Got about eight and half hours sleep last night. First time in ages. Feels good.

In other news...
I have a couple of things to take care of here before heading in for today's matinee.
Stay cool. Stay sane. Stay Happy!

TOD:
Walkabout
Rabbit-Proof Fence
Three Kings
Japanese Story
Road Warrior (I guess I like the Australian desert since four of these are set there)
I'm sure there are more especially the 1930s, but I can't think of anything now.

Happy, happy, td! How's Miss Molly?
Happy, happy, DW Betsy.

Lovely engagement photos of your brother and his bride-to-be, DR Jose - thanks for sharing!

Here's how I found FJL's spoof on Lauren Ambrose's casting:
http://music-and-comedy.blogspot.com/2011/08/parody-based-on-lauren-ambrose-casting.html
And here's an 11-year-old Lauren on "Star Search." She's actually better than her competitor, IMHO:

Yes, thanks. They're quite the handsome couple.

I had a lovely breakfast with Susanna Tarjan. Her husband Peter did not join us today. Much was discussed and I got to see the latest photos of her three grandchildren who are truly adorable.
I'm ready for a nap. Around 5 am this morning, we had another noisy round of street scrapers. I guess 82nd Street will get new asphalt next week.

BK, if some of the screencaps to which you refer are mine, you should know that all Blu-ray.com screencaps are actually measured with a spectrometer to be absolutely accurate. These are straight ports over from the BD with no futzing whatsoever and we have an extremely obsessive compulsive site administrator who makes sure all screencaps are "color neutral" (i.e., blacks at 0). So if your display is different, it's because that's how it's set, not because that's how the BD looks without any alteration.

I'm staying put next weekend, DR Jose, but lots of people are traveling TO Ohio for a bridal shower for Mary Linda. She's coming from Michigan, of course, along with her mother and grandmother and our niece, Rev. Amy, is coming from NW Ohio. Amy is the mother of the ring bearer.

I'm up, I'm up, and must do some phoner interview in about five minutes.
-
I like to order early too, Elmore. So many more choices!
-
TOD: Favourite desert movies: LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, THE LOST PATROL, SAHARA, 3 GODFATHERS, FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO, BEAU GESTE. Some of those would also be my favourite survival movies too.
-
JMK - here's how it works for me: I sit on my couch and watch a Blu and Ray. I don't futz with the color on my TV - it's set the way it's set coming out of the box. I watch a movie - I know the movie intimately in terms of its look, color-wise. If that color is replicated while I'm watching then the color on my TV is accurate. I know this, because other movies that I'm really knowledgeable about also have perfect color, whilst others don't - brown, pale, whatever. Then I look at a screencap on my iMac screen. If it's vastly different in color than what I just watched then there's something wrong with either the caps or my screen, and I don't think it's my screen since other colors seem to be accurate. I hear all the time that these caps are directly off the source, but obviously something is wrong somewhere - and it's no wonder there's a disconnect with some people saying the cap is accurate (mostly people who haven't actually seen the disc in motion) and those who say they're not (and there are plenty of people who say they're not). And then occasionally we find that whomever has done the caps has a setting off (sheepishly admitted, always - not saying that's you, but you've seen it happen). I don't know what it is exactly - I can only go by my eyes.
-
I like to order early too, Elmore. So many more choices!
Same here. I don't like when I find out late, and all that's left is to buy would be a number of pieces in a much larger set. I feel like I've given part of something instead of actually given something.
-
When that happens in terms of the registry, i usually end up giving something not on the registry.
-
All I can say is I stand by my screencaps (no mean feat) as being absolutely 100% accurate in terms of a straight 1:1 port of BD data.
BK, perhaps you're unaware of this, but almost all BD players have RGB settings, and yours may be set so that you're not seeing the full spectrum, only PC levels. This is different and apart from any contrast/brightness/tint settings you may have on your television.
-
Ron Raines called. He's got me a ticket for the opening night of FOLLIES on Sept 12, so I guess I'm seeing FOLLIES.
I need a nap.

Enoch Light's arrangement of Hey, Jude is a bolero. I find that rather odd.

If I watch a movie wherein I know what it's supposed to look like, and it looks like that - then nothing else matters. And what I'm seeing on Sands of the Kalahari in no way resembles your caps, which are milky and pale compared to what I see on my TV. I don't know what you mean by PC levels in terms of a blu-ray player, or how I could not be seeing a full color spectrum when I'm seeing MORE color than you have on your caps. Unless you're saying my computer monitor isn't accurately displaying your caps - I wouldn't know how to check that, but since I look at photos on this monitor and they look like they have accurate color, I don't think it's my monitor either. So, you are saying your caps look exactly like what you see when you watch the blu-ray on your TV, yes? And your TV is? Calibrated (which I think sometimes is a lot of the problem - people who do these calibrations - well, I don't know that I trust them). I can only go by my eyes and my knowledge of film color.

Did a two-hour phoner interview with some lady who's writing a book about creativity.
-
Trying to decide whether to see PORGY AND BESS in Massachusetts. It's a good excuse to go back to Boston for a couple of days.

What I'm saying is my screencaps are ported over with NO calibration whatsoever--they are straight ports, bit for bit, no alteration whatsoever.

JMK -while I'm sure that's true, I'm only telling you how they are displaying on the bluray.com website. Which is to say, not accurately at least not on my screen.

Back from the four-mile jog. I must get something to eat as I won't have any time to do so before seeing the show.

From Lara:
Yup, Cillaliz. And we had a specialist do it. He gave me such a detailed report of everything. He went far beyond simply extracting the teeth. He checked all the underlying tissues and whatnot under the gums.
The vet at the time we dealt with this didn't recommend a specialist which I think is much better. Our current vet is also a vet dentist. Had we been going to her back then & she recommended pulling the teeth we would have trusted her & done so.

1st day of our trip we stopped in Mt Shasta to walk around. Driving past Mt. Shasta & Lake Shasta is beautiful but we rarely stop. In the evening we stayed out side Modesto at the La Quinta we took Sherlock to on his first trip home. Lucky for us there is a yummy Chinese restaurant to get dinner to go for a relaxing meal in our room.
The next morning we walked around Modesto. It is not the hopping town in AMERICAN GRAFFITI. There were a number of stores that were boarded up. Fortunately a few places were also in the process of being renovated.
-
One more...

Page five!

Watching a silent German movie called "People on Sunday." Very beautiful scenes of pre-WW II Berlin, some of which I actually recognize from my short trip there. Nice mix of fictional story, acted by real people, and on-site footage of people enjoying a Sunday back then.
-
Yes, I wrote about People On Sunday a couple of weeks ago - a really lovely piece of work that is highly recommended.

Thank you all, especially the dear BK, for the wonderful thoughts on my birthday. They are all appreciated.
I will return. . .I promise.

We miss you, TD!

Happy Birthday TD

Happy Birthday DW Betsy!!

I am home. It was an interesting weekend. Lots of drama and I am very glad to say I was not in the middle of any of it
-
Right now the sky is a very strange colod. I can't tell if it's going to rain or if it's just the sunset through clouds or what it is, but it's not normal....
-
I would like rain. Not a storm, just rain
-
I would like rain. Not a storm, just rain
We would love rain here. But it ain't happening for a while I don't think.
-
Off to a place called the Hangin' Tree Saloon for an evening of old-timey cowboy music. Songwriter by the name of James Hand. Writes a lot of his own stuff and some of it is good. I particularly like a song called "Shadows Where the Magic Was," about a guy who goes back to the house where he once lived with his ex.
Funny, before I moved to Texas, I wouldn't listen to any of that sort of music. Now, I have a healthy appreciation for it.
-
2nd night we stayed at the dog friendly Palomar Hotel in Westwood. We had wine in the lobby before Keith's cousin arrived to walk into Westwood to meet her parents for dinner. When we showed her the dog board with Sherlock's name she had us take photos.
-
Welcome back, DR Cillaliz, and congratulations on staying out of the middle of the drama.
-
I am very glad to say I was not in the middle of any of it
That's a relief! :)
-
Sherlock in front of the dog board. Did you notice the magnifying glass next to his name? ;D
After dinner Keith's cousin returned to the hotel with us to visit awhile. The next morning we had breakfast in the lobby with Keith's brother before heading to Lake Arrowhead for the weekend wedding activities.
We felt terrible because it was Sherlock's 5th birthday & we had to leave him in a kennel. At least he could spend the day playing outside with all the other dogs.
-
Day 3 at http://www.laresort.com/lars/default.htm for my sister's daughter's wedding:
We checked into our very large & nice room overlooking a little bit of the lake & the swimming pool. We spied my ex-brother in-law at the pool with his family (wife & children after my sister) & the groom whom we hadn't met & our niece. Down we went for a very nice visit with them.
Just as we returned to the lobby my brother, his two daughters plus the boy friend of the youngest walked in. We visited a bit & made plans to meet by the pool.
The next time we went to the lobby my brother's son & family walked in, boy did we time those well.
Craig arrived in time for dinner with my brother's family & us but Bryan had to delay his flight out as he was invited to interview for a residency in ER where he just did his rotation. Finger's crossed for Bryan.

More tomorrow.

Hi Jane, welcome home
-
I had a bit of a scare when I came home tonight. Callie was really acting like she was in pain, trying to poop. I ran upstairs and saw the check for the cat sitter still sitting there and immediately wondered what happened, so I left her a bit of a panicked message. Then I noticed that the newspaper was here, the food I left out was used and she had clearly been here.
So I ran back to the basement and thankfully, there was a gift from Callie, so to speak. She ran upstairs and I found her laying on her side not really moving. She never does that. So I sat with her for awhile and pet her head and talked to her. She slowly started coming around and acting better. I think she's fine now. She was just having a hard time passing it and was in pain. I'll keep an eye on her, but she's acting like herself now
-
The cat sitter called me back all upset. She was here, Callie got her meds and was acting fine. I think I just happened to come home when she was having real problems. Glad to know all is well
-
I'm hoping we have some rain tongiht
-
Poor Callie. Doesn't she often have trouble "leaving gifts?"
-
Poor Callie. Doesn't she often have trouble "leaving gifts?"
Yes, but not like this. at least I haven't seen her like this. She really acted scared when I had to give her meds tonight. After she realized that's what I was doing she calmed down.
-
Happy Birthday TD
-
Poor Callie.
-
Oh she looks fine right now. I think she'll feel better in the morning. And...think I'll go to bed and read a book. Night all
-
Page 6...my work is done here
-
welcome back DR Jane! We missed you!!!
-
That would be a bit of a scare, DR Cillaliz! Glad that Callie is better now.
-
I have watched a LOT of Bollywood movies over the last 3 days. It has been fun.
-
Good Evening!
Two good shows today.
And I realized that not only was this first time in a long time that my brother, Don, actually drove into DC, I think it's the first time in years(!!!!!) that's he actually seen a show that I was playing. I was actually kind of surprised when he said that he would be joining my niece, her "bestie" and her mother.
-
One of the films I watched starred an actor that some HHWers might actually know, as he recently starred on the US tv series HEROES and was also on the tv series COVERT AFFAIRS.
Sendhil Ramamurthy
(http://www.malestarz.com/uploads/photos/031347d7bd53854dd13cc2357743fed79.jpg)
The film he I saw him in was SHOR IN THE CITY (2011). Interesting and unusual film. No song and dance, though.
-
As for the aforementioned Sea Salt Gelato...
On Saturdays, it's a tradition for the band to head out to dinner between shows, and today we picked GRAFFIATO (http://www.graffiatodc.com). It was opened by "Top Chef" finalist, Mike Isabella. It was a great meal. Wonderful food all around.
*And, yes, I ordered the Chicken Thighs with Pepperoni Sauce. :)
-
DR JoseP, I am just gonna miss you in LA. I will be there in October.
-

Ah, well, DR MBarnum. Guess that means you'll just have to head to DC. ;)

And since tomorrow will be another long(!) day for me...
Goodnight.

Sounds like fun.

Night, all.

A Very Happy Birthday to the Errant and Truant DR TD!! ;D
-
And a Happy Actual Birthday to JMK's DW Betsy!! ;D
-
Betsy (and I) thank(s) you for all the birthday wishes. She has been inundated with FB posts and calls from near and far.
-
I am quite proud of DS Gabe. He has assembled a computer from scratch and it actually seems to be working, though we need to get a new keyboard before he can press "enter" and load the system disc. :)
-
Today is a work day.
AND my sister and her husband from the Seattle area have found a house and hopefully will be moving HOME in September.
Very good news, Jack!
Do you think that you might visit the area? :D
-
Back from the play and a little piece of custard pie. Of all pies, custard and pumpkin seem to be the most calorie-friendly at about 250 a slice.
-
Trying to decide whether to see PORGY AND BESS in Massachusetts. It's a good excuse to go back to Boston for a couple of days.
This production doesn't have anything to do with the upcoming Broadway production, does it?
And coincidentally, Seattle Opera (http://www.seattleopera.org/tickets/production.aspx?productionID=98) is also presenting it this month, also.
-
I am a puddle of tears right now. We've been working on one of my holy grail soundtracks for three months. We had an import CD release, awash in reverb and a generation from the original album master, and the 35mm stereo tracks, which were rife with wow and flutter on many tracks. I did not know quite how we were going to make it work, but we had everything in the film except two short cues and I think we were missing a couple of source music cues. Since this is one of my ten favorite scores ever written, well, I just wanted it to be perfect, but knew we were going to have to make do. Then the process began of trying to at least get the original album master back. That went back and forth for about three months, but finally we knew they'd come - but more importantly, in their inventory they had a set of three-track tapes from which the original LP had been assembled. The minute I heard how many tracks were on these two three-track tapes I knew we'd struck gold and had the entire score in what would probably be pristine sound. The minute I put it on and heard the prologue I knew I was right - and I am more than a happy camper.

Great news, BK!
When you started out with "I am a puddle of tears right now," I was thinking that something horrible happened.
