Well, you've read the notes, the notes had patience galore, and now it is time for you to post until the patient cows come home.

Good morning, all! It's a very gray morning in Manhattan. I have a lot of laundry to be washed, but I'm also not thrilled about running to and fro in the rain.  I'll take my meds, have some coffee and ponder my options.

The  main thing on today's agenda is to defrost the refrigerator, something I truly loathe. I've put it off for over a month, but this is my last chance before the Dublin trip.

I am pretty sure it is NOT Ronald Stein's score from RUNAWAY DAUGHTERS.

I decided to go ahead with the laundry, and in five minutes I will head back to the laundromat and remove it from the washers. When that's dried, I will proceed to the vacuuming and mopping before I tackle the refrigerator.

DR JRand60, best of luck with your board meeting!

The washed bedding is on the bed, the laundry is put away, I've vacuumed and had some breakfast, and I can either clean the bathroom or tackle the refrigerator. I think I'll clean the bathroom and leave the defrosting till this afternoon.

has anyone listened to the new KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY recording? I like much of it, but I'm unhappy that it's a live concert, since there are some bungled lyrics and poor sound balances, and it's cut. We're midding about fifteen minutes of the entire score including the wonderful "Algonquins from Harlem" swing dance. "The Bachelor's Song" was cut during the out-of-town tryout, probably to cut the wait for Walter Huston's entrance, and I really love the song. Chris Fitzgerald does a great job with it.

My mother was hilarious yesterday.  We went to a garage sale down the street.  I got some things and she did too. We had to have help carrying the box full of stuff she got. Then we did some things and she said "you know, I'd really like to get the silverware they had, it goes with my set"  so we went back and I carried another big box of things she decided she needed.    A little later she said "Why don't we go see if they are still out there"   So we walked down and everything was half price.  LOL, yes, I carried another big box of stuff to her house.   You'd think at 84 years old she'd be getting rid of things and not getting more things.

I know I'm trying to reduce, not add.  I suppose when you live in the same house & don't worry about downsizing you still have fun adding new things.

According to the film, Geronimo surrendered on September 6, 1886.

My father was born on September 1, 1886.

Went to a farmers market after church and had some truly amazing barbecued brisket. The rub on the outside had turned into a terrific crust and plenty of subtle wood flavors had settled in during the smoking. Just the right amount of fat to keep the meat terrifically juicy.

Then I had pizza with a vegan blogger.

Vegan cheese, vegan crust. It was not the same.

For what it was, the vegan pizza was actually good, but it just wasn't the same.

I didn't eat the crust because of the flour, but the pizza joint actually had a great idea that I'm going to copy at home. Instead of a flour-based crust, they made personal pizzas on portobellos that were grilled with the cheese (I had real cheese), tomato sauce and herbs on top. Tasted great and low-carb. Not exactly like thin-crust, New York-style pizza but a really good treat.

I also tried their gluten-free pizza, made with a tapioca or manioc crust. The crust was a little on the sweet side and in dire need of a little salt to bring it to life. But gluten-free crusts are so hard to make and so in-demand that the pizzeria started buying its gluten-free crust. That just seems to me to be a reversal of how things should go. Shouldn't you try to make something in-house because the demand has increased?

DR Jane, I am so glad to see that you have returned.

Thank you.  I have been concerned you weren't here upon my return.  How are you after the latest fall?  Do you have non-skip socks like I do?  Craig slipped in Sherlock's drool today & said if it had been me I would have fallen.  Fortunately he was barefoot or he might have fallen.

On day 4 of our vacation we went on a two hour pontoon ride around the lake which included a history of the area & a stop for a swim.  In stead of swimming I held our youngest grand nephew while he slept.

The early evening wedding overlooking the lake was very nice.  We had a wonderful time with my family.  Usually our time together is a few hours in the afternoon or evening.  This was on & off until after breakfast Sunday morning when we left to get Sherlock.  It was just extra special, especially with Craig & Bryan there.

On day 5 Bryan left before anyone was up.  We briefly saw Craig as we carried his hanging bag with his suite for him making his flight travel easier.

At breakfast we saw the older of my brother's daughter's, our nephew & best of all his two sons.

I'll skip the part we weren't happy about, the big sore on Sherlock's face & that his back side stunk from something he must of sat in-didn't help that it was pouring rain.

We spent the evening in Santa Barbara & ate at Andersen's bakery http://www.andersenssantabarbara.com/  I had a delicious Havarti sandwich on rye & I purchased treats from the bakery to go.

As I was saying...

Today is E. Faye Butler's last day as Aunt Eller. -Terry Burrell starts on Tuesday. Well...

During one of her exits, E. Faye would make ad lib about cooking something in her kitchen. Each day she would be cookin' up something different. So...

In honor of her last day, the cast and crew hosted a potluck dinner between shows based on the various foods that she had rattled off over the past couple of weeks and months. A list went up and people chose the food they wanted to cook. So...

Baked Ham
Fried Chicken
Pork Ribs
Baked Beans
Potato Salad
Okra and Tomatoes
Fried Corn
Collard Greens
Rutabagas
Cornbread
Deviled Eggs
Hoe Cakes
Plum Preserves
Green Beans
Egg Pie
Banana Pudding
Custard with Raspberry Syrup
Fried Green Tomatoes
Etc., etc., etc.

There was a LOT of food.

Today, I'm going to help my sister and her boyfriend move the refrigerator that's in her garage to our parents' house.  My sister doesn't use it and my mom wants one in her garage.  I don't think that it'll be too difficult, just heavy.

The refrigerator got moved without much trouble.  Larry rented a small U-Haul truck with a ramp.  It worked perfectly.

After that, I'm supposed to meet my friend Margo and her friend Marsha for a late lunch at the local Panera's, but I'm also supposed to go to my parents' for dinner.  Oh, what to do?  That might be a bit too much to eat...but we'll see. ;) I can easily eat light at Panera's so that I can have something at my parents'.

I'm not going to eat at my parents' tonight.  My mom is making a meatloaf, so it'll still be good tomorrow.  I'll go over then and visit and eat.

Ohhhhh, that SPELLBOUND.

As I was saying...

Today is E. Faye Butler's last day as Aunt Eller. -Terry Burrell starts on Tuesday. Well...

During one of her exits, E. Faye would make ad lib about cooking something in her kitchen. Each day she would be cookin' up something different. So...

In honor of her last day, the cast and crew hosted a potluck dinner between shows based on the various foods that she had rattled off over the past couple of weeks and months. A list went up and people chose the food they wanted to cook. So...

Baked Ham
Fried Chicken
Pork Ribs
Baked Beans
Potato Salad
Okra and Tomatoes
Fried Corn
Collard Greens
Rutabagas
Cornbread
Deviled Eggs
Hoe Cakes
Plum Preserves
Green Beans
Egg Pie
Banana Pudding
Custard with Raspberry Syrup
Fried Green Tomatoes
Etc., etc., etc.

There was a LOT of food.
Well, that made me hungry.

Back from rehearsal and a great dinner at Kansas City Barbecue.  I had a brisket sandwich, fries, and baked beans.  I could barely finish the sandwich, ate only a handful of fries, and ate two-thirds of the small thing of baked beans.  I really think my tummy has shrunk quite a bit - normally I could have finished everything and had room for more.

Melody had the best rehearsal she's had.  We didn't actually have people there (I guess people are busy on Sundays at two).  There are certain things we've been working on religiously, most importantly, how to take charge from the first entrance and never let the audience go, ever.  Today, for the first time, she did exactly that - she was superb.  Her moves were sharp, her energy was high, her vocals were great and she really took control of her patter.  It was so much fun to see.  She knew it right away, too.  I only had three teeny-tiny little notes.  We're doing one more run on Tuesday night - but she is VERY ready.

I'm not sure if I've been there before.  I asked my brother & he remembered going water skiing there but not that we stayed with friends of our parents, which is the time I remember him water skiing at a lake.  Maybe we didn't stay with family friend's since I can't remember who they were.   Whichever lake the trip was at my sister & I caught a fish & put it in the bathtub to keep it until dinner.  We felt so bad we returned it to the lake unharmed.

I have been strangely attentive to my plants this summer and many of them have been thriving. But in the last three days, no matter how much I water, the mint has burned up in the heat. Not happy with that.

Put in a plumbago and a flowering Mexican oregano today, both of which are supposed to thrive in full sunlight. Also got a flower that I wanted but don't know the name. The salesman called it a bird of paradise, but it's not. It's something that starts out yellow at the top and turns bright orange at the bottom. Bahamas or Bermuda were part of the real name. I think.

I was particularly impressed with Parker Esse's choreography - and the very fine dancers in our cast executing his choreography. So, where's the recipe?

I will follow up on today's reports of a possible "cookbook" being compiled when I get back on Tuesday.

Well... After two and a half weeks of rehearsal and five weeks of performances, OKLAHOMA! managed to make me cry. A few times. :)

Nice.  I wish there was a video recording.

And now, I'm off to Panera for some yummy food and friendly conversation.

Be back later.

Hey, I was just at Panera....I didn't see you there...

And we had lunch at Panera today...

I was in the one across town...we all must've just missed each other.

:D

I've been watching a talented friend - one who's neither a go-getter nor, I fear, a survivor - on the road to Crash and Burn today. I can do nothing but watch this occur and wonder why the hell someone with so much potential got himself into this condition. It's truly appalling.

I can't say more than I have, but this friend needs some serious vibes, so please send them.

Not much new in these here woods, just been going to a lot of AA meetings, and trying to stay away from food.   I gained about 3 pounds back.   Just from eating bread products again.

The last day of my four day staycation is over.  :-\

But I certainly enjoyed it. Today I met my mom and sister for lunch at a Mexican place in far SE Salem. The served quite good coffee.
