Well, you've read the notes, the notes had art and communicated, and now it is time for you to post until the communicating cows come home.

I zonked out on the bus sometime around Baltimore, and when I woke back up I thought we were still somewhere on the Turnpike. Well, we were about to head into the Lincoln Tunnel! The bus driver made great time too!

Good morning, all!  DR Jose, welcome back to NYC!

This is day of personal business at home: call Medicare and straighten out some things, schedule a barber appointment for tomorrow, call the Kurt Weill Foundation, and defrost the refrigerator. Yes, this is the day. I can no longer procrastinate. At 9 am, the project begins.

Thank you all for the vibes for my friend. He's a complete mess at the moment. Ron Raines' comment last night on our mutual friend is "I'm afraid he's headed over the cliff." I'm amazed at the choices he's made and the mess he's got himself into. "I am a camera" indeed! All I can do is watch, pity, and pray he'll get his act together, but I doubt it. Pray for him.

TOD: Love the Italians.

Fellini:
I Vitellioni
Il Bidone
la Strada
Nights of the Cabiri (sp?)
8 1/2
Amarcord
And the Ship Sails On
Intervista
La Dolce Vita
Variety Lights
(Seriously, I am omitting the ones I don't care for, such as Casanova, which I couldn't get through, Satyricon and Juliet of the Spirits)

Rossellini, De Sica, Sergio Leone, Visconti, Antonioni -- you name 'em.

When I lived in Florida, my friend Deb would have people over for a day of Italian movies and Italian food. We'd watch three Fellini films and eat pasta, drink Chianti and have fun.

She now lives in Austin and brought up the idea just this weekend, so we may have to revive that tradition.

DR Pogue - It could be that your History is just reflecting more recent views and click-thrus. It could still be there, but just pushed down to the bottom of the list. -Especially if you haven't actually typed the URL address lately.

Just Bookmark http://www.haineshisway.com and that should take care of it. -It will also prioritize what comes up first when you start typing in "Haines.." in your browser's address box.

My computer mystery o' the day:  Betsy was futzing with this netbook last night and managed to make the font on internet pages much bigger than it used to be.  Now I'm smart enough (barely) to know to go into Display on Control Panel and make sure the font size is not set to large, and it wasn't.  So I'm stumped as to what magic she did on this machine.
Title: Re: THE ART OF COMMUNICATION
Post by: JMK on August 08, 2011, 07:29:41 AM
Well, this is truly weird.  Betsy had told me to hold down CTRL and use the scroll wheel on the mouse to affect font size and nothing happened.  Then she said rather curtly ;) "Are you in an email?"  And I told her no, and she realized she had left out one salient piece of info, so I did that in an email and now fonts are displaying correctly.  Ya learn somethin' everyday, I tells ya.

Here's another teaser trailer for my new book of short stories:

This story is called "Bugsy's Boys".

If you read my memoir, you should recognize that this yarn was inspired by something that actually happened to me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SM0W5FTUrk

BTW: The person playing "David Goodman" (me) is, in fact, my son (David), who graciously allowed me to use his photos for this trailer.

He's not a member of SAG, AFTRA or Equity, so I didn't have to pay him.

The refrigerator is finished and so am I! I've crawled into a tub of cold water to shake off the sweat and cool down. I hope the fridge still works and in another hour I'll check the freezer to see if it's still working.

My barber appointment is set for tomorrow, and then I'll have lunch with Joshie somewhere around City Center. I spoke to Social Security and they advised me to call Medicare with my questions, which is funny since it's the Social Security phone number on the back of the invoice! So, that's my afternoon project.

Jose, I have  haineshis way bookmarked and often just type that out to reach the site.  It used to be when I when to haineshisway in my history fromthe previous day, it would show everyplace I had been on the site. It still does except for GK's notes.  I have no idea why.  I used to access notes through my history.  I can't do that anymore.  It's slightly inconvenient, but hardly insurmountable...I'm just curious, if anyone else has experienced this and why it not won't let me access notes through the history links.

Is she feeling better now, Dan (the Man)?

Yes, she is, DR Laura.  The drain bag on her gall bladder bothers her sometimes (the stitches that keep it in place, mostly.)  But she's pretty much back to her self and is actually happy that she is getting daily physical therapy (though it wipes her out at the end of the day.)

I can tell she's getting better because she is already doing things she is not supposed to do yet (shuffling her wheelchair around her room and into the bathroom, getting out of and into bed on her own, etc.)  But she does know her limits and I don't think she'll do anything foolhardy (at least I hope not...)

I used to be able to go to my history and click the link that would take me right to BK's daily column here.  For over a year that link has utterly disappeared...there are links that take me to various stages of the Discussion boards, but the link that takes me to BK's column utterly disappeared.  I have to reach it by typing in the URL or going to my favourites page.  What happened?

DR Pogue - It could be that your History is just reflecting more recent views and click-thrus. It could still be there, but just pushed down to the bottom of the list. -Especially if you haven't actually typed the URL address lately.

Just Bookmark http://www.haineshisway.com and that should take care of it. -It will also prioritize what comes up first when you start typing in "Haines.." in your browser's address box.

Perhaps because you called him GK!

The refrigerator is finished and so am I! I've crawled into a tub of cold water to shake off the sweat and cool down. I hope the fridge still works and in another hour I'll check the freezer to see if it's still working.

Did you try using a hairdryer to speed up the process................  Oh, never mind.

Bird of paradise was my mother's favorite flower.

My mother likes bird of paradise so much that they were used for her corsage for my sister's wedding (almost 50 years ago!).  Very challenging for the florist.

I had a terrible Monday.  I got up late, when I got to the parking garage there was this jerk, who did have access to the garage until 6:00 a.m..  He kept trying his badge everry minute.  I kept asking him to putll out and I would open the garage for both of us, but he refused to move his effin Lexus.  Finally at six, the garage door opened and the parade of cars behind Mr. Lexus were allowed to enter.

Today the pain in my legs was almost unbearable, but I managed to make it through until 1:30.  Then I came home, wet my pants, and I am now catching up on e-mails, posts, and Facebook messages.

And even though the forecast called for some "uncomfortably hot" temperatures today, I found it rather pleasant walking around today. I finally checked out the new extension of The Highline - Beautiful. And once I was at 30th Street, I just kept walking up to 59th to catch the train. -I had started walking from 4th Street. It felt great to walk that much of a distance again - which is not easy to do in DC since it's not really a "walking city".

I pulled a bunch of things from my storage unit this morning.  Most of it was brought down to the Textile Recycling booth at the Union Square Greenmarket, but I did pull some clothes and other items to bring back to Virginia. -Most importantly, the shoes for my brother's wedding!

My bus leaves at 7:30am tomorrow, and if I can have it all ready to go tonight...

Good Evening!

Well...

I headed out earlier - after packing my luggage - to get a bite to eat. I decided to go to Flex Mussels, not only because I like the food there, but also because Zac Young from "Top Chef: Desserts" was in the kitchen tonight. We've met up a few times over the past two years at various foodie events, and because he was a musical theatre guy we have a bunch of friends in common.

As it turned out, my friends, Eric and Blake, were in the area and had just finished dinner, so they joined me there for drinks while I had my dinner. And we had a great catch-up session. Well...

Zac ended up sending out some desserts for us: his Chocolate Brownie Semifreddo Sundae, and some of his signature filled Doughnuts (Salted Caramel and Fluffer-Nutter). YUM!!!!

It was a most delicious and wonderful way to finish off my day back in NYC.

DR vixmom - Yes, a "pink cream" sauce works wonderfully with lobster ravioli.  If you want to keep it really simple, just sauté a few whole cloves of garlic in two sticks of butter, then anoint the ravioli with the garlic-infused butter. Maybe some dill or chives on top as a vegetable. ;)

I'm watching a strange motion picture I TIVOd.  And I just made a decision to do Nudie Musical as a stand-alone CD release when the blu-ray comes out.  We've never actually had a release that was JUST Nudie that was available commercially.  It will have the same contents as the CD that came with the DVD - i.e. the score and Grant Geissman's arrangements of same for the documentary - plus, I think I may be able to unearth a few interesting never before released tracks.

Cool!  That's one definitely worth double-dipping. :D

A very young Anthony Quinn is in "Waikiki Wedding." Silliness, but good music.

Speaking of Anthony...his son, Francesco Quinn (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/08/francesco-quinn-mourned.html), just died.

Any chance he'll drop in to get his birthday wishes?

Yeah - he's a well-wisher hog.

Bird of paradise was my mother's favorite flower.

Bird of Paradise was one of King Henry's favorite snacks.

A very Happy Birthday to der Brucer!  What is on the menu for your birthday dinner?

Oysters Rockefeller
Oyster Stew
Grilled Golden Tilefish topped with peach salsa

all washed down with a large glass of Saison Dupont (A Belgian craft beer)

A stroll on the Boardwalk and a dish of Ben Franklin's Tomato Ice Cream.
