Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very New York and had stories, and now it is time for you to post until the New York cows come home.

Good morning, all! I am awake and pondering the events of the day. I've got very little to do beyond tidying the apartment and packing before I head to Newark. I guess I'll begin with the packing.

I have no other news at the moment, but I do beg, plead, and whimper for mega travel vibes today!

Here's a quote from the musical director of the new improved PORGY AND BESS:

"At the beginning of the show, Clara is singing 'Summertime' to her baby. But when I listened to it, I asked myself, 'Why is she singing so high? That would wake the baby up. It has to be a lullaby.' So I took the whole thing down. And then I decided that I wanted to use an accordion, because whenever I hear an accordion it always transports me someplace else—a folkloric place that doesn't have machines. So the show now opens with Clara singing 'Summertime' as a duet with the accordion."

Oy! I'd never hire her. She sounds like a musical moron.

BK - I remember seeing BLADE RUNNER not that many years ago and thinking that, just as TV has gone beyond what was "predicted" in NETWORK, Times Square has gone beyond the feel of BLADE RUNNER in some ways.  :)

Saturday morning greetings!  Our household is up and at 'em - Rob & Mary Linda are going to Cincinnati this morning to do some pre-wedding errands and to pick up one of the bridesmaids who flew in for the shower.  In a little over an hour I have to pick up a cake (from Central Pastry, DR Elmore!) and 2 balloon bouquets and head out to the venue.  There I'll meet my sister-in-law, the actual hostess, and help her get things set up.

Elmore, I think Diane Paulus would help her case (it certainly wouldn't hurt it), if she kept her mouth shut and let her interpretation speak for itself. Then, she can do all the singing about it she wants, with or without an accordion in the background.

Many safe travel vibes.

Acorn Media, which released "Foyle's War" and "Upstairs Downstairs" on DVD (not to mention any other British programs) is offering free streaming through the end of August. Here's the link to the site. It's their choice of what they offer free and the schedule changes, but it's a very good looking schedule. I don't think I ever saw "The Far Pavilions":

Watched a fun one last night: "Potiche." It's French for "Trophy Wife" and features Catherine Deneuve and Gerard Depardieu in a silly little tale of women's rights (the message isn't silly). She runs an umbrella factory, so there were memories of "Cherbourg." He looks enormous. And I'm having a vague memory of reading about the movie in the notes. Still, it was nice spending more time with the both of them.

The first time I went to NY was in the early 1970s.

I was there on business, and before I went, I kept hearing all these horror stories about people getting mugged.

Getting off the plane, I was so paranoid that I thought the redcap was going to mug me.

Back from a four-mile jog.  I didn't know if I could do it or not - no running shoes with me - but I jogged down to Park Ave. and it was closed to traffic for bikers and joggers, so it was just too easy.  I ran from 46th to 86th and back, eighty blocks, which is four miles.

Well, my packing has been interrupted several times by emails from Dublin. The twomost important issues are getting pdfs of the Violin 1 part to the concert mistress and Marcella has requested optional notes so I guess she's not really happy with high D-flats.  I believe we will lose her today and be going with Mary, who's got all of the high notes. I think she'll be missed because i like her voice, but Mary's lighter voice will sound young, and that's all I care about for the recording.

BK, thanks again for a great evening!

Oh, that's right! Summer Streets! If you had so desired, you could have ran all the way down to the Brooklyn Bridge and back. They close off Park Ave. all the way downtown.

From what I could gather - and see since I was seated in the last row of the cabin - the woman went into the lavatory because she was feeling sick. She then signaled to one of the flight attendants that she was not feeling well. That's when she passed out. And that's when the "Is there a doctor on board?" announcement was made.

I am all packed, and around 2:30 I will call for a car to take me to Port Authority.

DR FJL, Marcella clearly isn't happy with the high D-flats, which surprises me since I would expect her to have a solid high C, and she wanted optional choices, several of which are in the published sheet music - but this may be alterations for the popular consumer use of the music - and several of which she was willing to create. I cannot sanction either since I want to present the score as Herbert wrote it. If there were an option in for a lower key from existing notes on the full score, that might have been a possibility but I have no other sources than those I've already used to create the score and parts.

I'm glad you didn't have to turn around.  I'm curious, how did they know the woman passed out when she was in the bathroom, and how did they get into her?

From what I could gather - and see since I was seated in the last row of the cabin - the woman went into the lavatory because she was feeling sick. She then signaled to one of the flight attendants that she was not feeling well. That's when she passed out. And that's when the "Is there a doctor on board?" announcement was made.

I had images of the flight attendants breaking into the little bathroom.  Good thing she had the sense to say something & that there were multiple doctor's on board.

From Jose:
Quote
A woman almost passed out in the lavatory about 30 minutes after we left Houston. Thankfully, there were three doctors on board, and they helped her out. They also convinced the ground crew and the captain that we did NOT need to turn around and head back to Houston. WHEW!

I'm glad you didn't have to turn around.  I'm curious, how did they know the woman passed out when she was in the bathroom, and how did they get into her?

LOL, I was wondering the same thing...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was curious.  ;D

Safe trip.

We took Sherlock to the vet yesterday to get a lump checked.  It appears harmless enough to wait until he needs other work & remove it then.  The vet found a broken tooth we suspect happened Wednesday night, & said he needs the other work now. :(  She believes he needs a root canal & a cap on the tooth to save it.  Since it is a top front molar strategically located for eating, she said it is worth saving.

Before she puts him out to do x-rays & remove the growth we need to be prepared to make a decision.  Whatever we decide it won't happen this month unless something changes with the lump or his tooth/gum.

Aside from the cost we wonder if it is worth saving the tooth since Sherlock rarely chews his food.

Shoot, I took the garbage out. It's in a bottle that you turn upside down and run the washer on the hottest setting.  It's a diswasher cleaner. The main ingredient is citric acid.  The dishes in the load after that one were really clean.  I was getting really disgusted with my dishwasher and this made the difference.  It's an old one.  it was in the house when I bought it

I really have to laugh that the country takes the Iowa Straw Poll seriously.  You have to pay to get in and the candidates send busses places and will pay your entry fee if you go for them.  They have huge parties and give away all sorts of stuff.  It's not binding and is really just an indication of who spent the most money.  It means nothing

Next time try Kool-Aid ;)  Mine wasn't really dirty, just stinky.  I think all the water problems we have needed to fix (still need the drinking water replaced) affected the dishwasher.   I've also noticed the washing machine doesn't smell musty anymore.

It's a cooking show on HGTV.  I love it.  They get a basket with mystery ingredients and have a certain amount of time to come up with an appetizer, then an entree, then a dessert  one contestant is chopped each round until you have the winner.   There are always some bizarre ingredients.  It's lots of fun

It is so strange that you can pretty well walk up and meet any of the candidates that interest you; but by the time they visit Washington, they all have Secret Services agents and entourages, so you can't even get a handshake unless you are one of the party faithful.
